Only time I’ve used it is to draw attention in VB, to assist with people gathering to defend rally points only. I would use it for anything similar, but not if it requires giving out information or instruction.

Wouldn’t do it any other time because mostly, I’m people-averse, and can’t be bothered with the hassle you get if you do even the tiniest thing wrong.

Can we have shorts?

The Sims is a few doors down, maybe that would suit ya better?

You joke, but I would be all over a Guild Wars 2 Sims. Build a house in Divinity’s Reach, invite Destiny’s Edge over, try to drown Logan in the pool. It’d be great!

On my more testing days, I would likely brick him up in an empty room, with no company but a cheap fireplace and a rug in rather close proximity. Would starvation or fire get him first? Results will be documented for posterity and for science!

To the thread in hand!: Braham has shorts, but his general outfit is not to my taste, but neither are shorts. There should still be shorts. Said it only recently in rather too many confused words, but the chaps don’t half get short shrift (ha, ha, ha) with fashion in this game. Must be a bug.

I discovered a funny thing. Playing my mesmer I ended up falling while downed. (Rock-throwing knights only played a small part in it, I started gliding with very low health after being knocked off a platform and couldn’t even take 1 rock).

After falling a long, long way, I activated “Deception” (downed skill 2) and much to my surprise it put me on a ridge I was plummeting past, where I could safely rally.

I don’t know if this possibility is common knowledge and I’m just late to the party, but it made me smile.

Probably one of the only times that skill has actually come good! I usually end up getting even more hurt when I’ve fired it. XD

Still, useful tip, and one I’ll be sure to try if I’m in that situation again.

Cost of Crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

One way I’ve avoided buying or crafting exotic armour* over the last few years is to take the character who will needthe armour, and play the standard core PvE maps I like best, or fancy playing on, and level the character whilst completing those particular maps, ensuring I do as many events as possible. When I hit 80, I hoof it to Orr, and run across the maps (catching key waypoints, skill points on the way), and get to the Temple of Grenth (zerker stats), in which I use the karma the character has earned to buy the exotic armour. Any of the other temples are fine, too, it just depends on what stats you want. Then, I will make do with that armour until it needs upgraded/I have the corresponding ascended piece. Thereafter, I’ll just keep the set around, for different purposes, for example, with speedy type runes on for gathering node runs, or for fashion.

Downside is you can’t salvage temple armour if you don’t want to keep it, and of course if you want different stats from what the temples offer, then the whole suggestion is moot.

Thanks for letting us know this happened. It goes such a long way to be honest about this sort of incident. I have a lot of faith in the protections set up for our accounts (I know first hand how hard it is to get around the 2-step authentication process if you forget any part of it!), and know you’ll continue to improve and strengthen account security for our benefit.

Thanks again, and hopefully you fix it so Gaile gets all her stuff back where she wants it.

I agree that some serious feasting and drinking, as well as a boasting competition, would have been nornish ways to honor the fallen. But what that line means in context is to pick the subset of things you want to do because you can’t do them all. After I tended Garm and laid roses at the statue (that latter being exactly what my nobleman would do, and has done for others he’s lost), I could only carve 2 blocks of ice (bear and raven) before the task was done. Next time in I’ll carve the other two things and then decide based on RP just which remaining two things to do.

My order is: Garm – flower – sculpture x4. Just you do two sculptures after the bar is full (worked for me a few times no issues). I imagine you can talk to people before the bar is full and still do the sculptures after, but wouldn’t swear to it. Sure the bar is full before you finish, but the shamans still talk about what your carving means.

I think they see you from a great range with invisible scopes (or worse, cybernetic implants), and even if you go into stealth, they’ve seen you do it and can instantly estimate the airspeed velocity of any swallow, unladen or otherwise, so said stealth is irrelevant - then those guided missiles! Ow! Is fun to dodge about for a bit, but still!

Agree on glider skill 5 as best option - have used it to evade a few times now. Healing on skill 4 doesn’t really do enough to help, but something like a Guardian-style block on-heal would be good. Its 1 second evade doesn’t really work well when lots of stuff is being pelted at gliders.

[Suggestions] Quality of Life Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d like the "Quit this chapter" bit of the story content to actually stick on map change. Sometimes I’ve gone back to replay stuff simply for an achievement, or to check some dialogue or a visual out. It didn’t mean I wanted to re-do the whole length of the story chain again, much less be reminded of it with nag text every time I swap maps!

I’m wondering if it’s a little difficult to fix this, because it’s not the first time it’s come up (certainly it’s at least the second time I’ve wittered about it). Sure, I don’t think it’s game-breaking, but we’re talking QoL.

I have the Disable Personal Story drop down selected, too, but it doesn’t seem to work with LS or expansion stuff (can’t remember about base game PS). Nor does it work when selected to disabling PS and events (but I like having events knowledge at will, and that does work).

I’d also go further than this: the option to turn off all top left corner text at will would be great (though default should be set to On).

I don’t get why you play games that might cause danger to your health. Just delete it. Forget it. There is milion other games to play.

I don’t get why people drive which might cause danger to their health.. Everything has risks and there’s no reason for someone to avoid something because it may pose a risk.

Funny you mention it, but driving is one of the things I don’t do. It would potentially get very messy if I did – nasty bright sun on some days out to get me, or bright headlights from other vehicles at night. Ouch. At least I won’t kill anyone else by playing a game, that’s for sure. Plus, I get a moral high ground in public transportation. XD

But you are right: if everyone went on that rationale of don’t do stuff cos it’s dangerous, we’d never do anything! Life’s for living, so let us decide, naysayers, what we can do and what we can’t. Sharing information about what has been an issue in-game for us is no bad thing, nor is trying to come up with solutions to make it a little more friendly for our usage.

I don’t get the problem here or the warning … spinning things on a screen can have negative effects on all kinds of people; as the OP and others say, it’s probably MUCH worse effects on more severe afflictions.

I can’t see how Anet would even attempt to address this without significantly sterilizing onscreen animations. Such a request to do so would be unreasonable.

As another person with PSE, I’d agree: there’s not a whole heap they can do for every single thing, given that each case individual and we’re triggered by differing circumstances. They can, however, provide a warning on the loading screen going into an instance (like we get for TV shows and cinema if there is to be an instance of strobes – for me, if I don’t get the warning, then it could go belly up quicker than I’d like). Even then, there’s probably only so much Anet can account for, without consulting someone in a medical capacity, yet a general loading screen warning is better than finding out too late: “Warning: this instance contains A/B/C which may affect some players”, or some such. Pop it under the usual loading screen info (the instance name, etc.).

It won’t change the fact the Risen Priestess of Dwayna has it in for me, or the new sparkly anomalies careering across various locations of late make me hurt, but it’s at least something.

@PaxTGO: I hate those flamethrowers too. Feh!

@OP: I’m sorry for what happened with you! I don’t know if you’ve gotten through to Hearts and Minds yet, but there’s a possibility it might be problematic to say the least. Good luck, and stay safe.

Other players have mentioned various instances in the game before now on the forums too, which is always a good call for any conscientious-minded person. I’ve appreciated such heads-up before.

it will take me time to find the video for the reference, but hey 40actors per line and 1,500 lines could be just a start.

40 actors per line =

4 languages – English, French, German and Spanish

5 Female characters – Asura, Charr, Human, Norn, Sylvari

5 Male characters (as above).

It’s not about extra voices to choose from in that particular quote, just an indication of how much work goes into voicing our own characters for release.

Check out this armor set, the male version is more revealing than the female version.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Braham's_Heavy_Armor_Skin
Not super revealing but shows more skin than the female version does. My point is that this game needs more revealing armor for EVERYONE, and different types of armor, most of it has the same theme imo. I want to role play as an uncivilized wild amazonian woman who makes her cloths out of animal skins & furs & bones & teeth and doesn’t cover up too much, and avoids civilization unless I need to go there to kill some one. >.< But yea the female armor in this game is not revealing at all imo.

Aye, I’ve seen that armour. It’s not particularly what I’m after (Team Chrono can’t use it! I may upload the Team for reference).

I agree, however, more choice is good – but that choice must sit firmly based in equality. It currently doesn’t. And whereas I may disagree on how you want female armour, I certainly don’t like it when we can’t both get what we want!

We should take into account the game’s content rating, too, so it may never come to anything much more than we have. I’ve used AoC as a reference point, but it’s an 18-rated game here in Europe (don’t know about the US). GW2 is a 12-rated game, so I figure it would be somewhat unreasonable to expect the exact same treatment between what is ostensibly an adult game versus a kid/tween game.

Xena rocked, btw. I actually think that sort of outfit would be okay.

EDIT: The Sims 4 just had an update where players could choose to enable clothes as unisex. TS4 has the same content rating as GW2. My thinking there is there are certainly possibilities to explore within a content rating.

I agree, we both should get what we want ( not quite sure what you want but I’m sure I’ll never get what I want, I usually don’t) But I just went through and looked at almost every set of armor & outfit they have in this game and in most of them the male and female version looks almost exactly the same & both versions are VERY concealing with a few exceptions both ways. And I’m pretty sure not 100% sure but pretty sure gw1 and gw2 are rated the same and gw1 had WAY sexyer more revealing armor choices for both male and female, not sure why gw2 is soo against sexy and revealing armor when gw1 was all for it, seems were going backwards rather than forwards in this whole progression and freedom of choice thing. But anyways I hope you get whatever it is that you want eventually. PS. If the issue is men wanna wear woman cloths and vise versa, I don’t see a problem with that either, in lord of the rings online you can wear whichever outfit you like regardless of sex. Aint he pretty in his little sun dress and flower wreath

I had a post earlier in the thread. It has a picture of my Sneakytim in it, from AoC. That’s what I’d be ultimately after, but it’s not something I see happening.

Loved the LotRO chap! <3

I’m actually after freedom of expression, and the safety in which to have it. I think a game like this can be a positive voice for that, and if it doesn’t hurt anyone or our individual selves, then it should be a thing. I don’t have to want to do or even like a thing myself to know it’s important that others should be able to experience it, although my personal constants are “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” and “another world is possible”. I know it there are some constraints because of content ratings – the world can’t and won’t change in a day, and constraint isn’t necessarily a bad thing when we think of children (as this game does still cater to children with that content rating, and my own child is one of them). That TS4 comment was, however, something where positive, forward-thinking change has occurred, and shows what is possible.

Come back after a 2 year break from this game and this is still an argument?

Took about 5 minutes to check every female armor in the game and looks like there is still more non revealing armor for female characters than revealing armor.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_heavy_armor
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_medium_armor
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_light_armor
In fact most of the female armor sets I’ve never seen in game because all the female characters wear the same few skimpy sets, especially the light armor classes. Seriously if someone told me the Sorcerer’s, Embroidered, Winged, and Inquest tops were the only ones available for female characters I would almost believe them.

This isn’t an Arena net problem though. They cannot control that people overwhelmingly pick the skimpy options.

Now I can get behind adding more Conan the Barbarian gear for the fellas. The male options are so samey it’s boring. But to say female characters only have half naked options is quite false since they outright have less half naked options than fully clothed.

Whenever I look at the female armor in this game 1 word comes to mind.....nuns, they want us to dress like nuns. I don’t even wear boring conservative cloths in real life, so why on earth would I want to wear them in a fantasy game...

Except we’re not really talking about the armour skins for the ladies in this thread. We’re talking about the fact that the armour skins for the men aren’t up to scratch in comparison.

There is such a huge difference between armour designs is some sets it’s a completely different set altogether. Point being, for female armour, we have a fair few sets to choose from to go skimpy - some of you might want more variety of those and it’s okay to ask for that, but can’t you see that this thread is doing as well, just for male armours? Going on about the female armours is out of place here (sorry to pick on your post, it’s just the last in the thread at the time of reading - I don’t want to come across as picking on you specifically, Ellie - I’m really talking to everyone discussing the want for more revealing female armours). I get you’re all passionate about what you’d like to see, but let’s try to stick to one thing at a time.

The male armour skins do not have the same level of choice, and this thread is asking for that. Nearly all the male sets are covered-up, and when they do show some skin, it often is questionable in aesthetic. We’re asking for straight-up equality in design: if the ladies’ armour is revealing, so too should it be for the men.

So can we get back on track and perhaps start discussing further design ideas for male armours? If we can establish some ideas as to what we all find appealing in male armours (as some of us have done already in the thread), then it can only be helpful to Anet.

It is actually on the same subject...He said female armor is naked and male isn’t. And what I and a few others are saying is female armor is just as covering as male armor, check out those links on the female armor, most of it is extremely covering. Sure you have a couple of armor pieces that shows maybe 2 inches of skin here and there, but you also have male armor that shows the same amount of skin as well. The point is no armor is very revealing in this game male or female. It’s all pretty much the same.

Ah, fair enough. It’s just I have both male and female characters (I have Team Chrono), and they are of all races. I have trouble with finding suitably revealing stuff on the male, and trouble being what I consider tasteful with the female characters - I do not wish my ladies to wear the fully covered stuff, I’d like middle ground - more or less how I am in RL (I live in Norway. It’s not usual to have swimwear on all the time, and I wouldn’t even if it were an option). I’d argue there is indeed revealing armour for ladies in this game. Not equally across the armour types, sure, but you can’t straight-up tell me it’s equal. It isn’t. Not by the longest of shots.

Not really sure how any of us can give an objective answer to that question, OP. YouTube viewing figures are not an accurate measurement of a game’s health.

No one here except Anet staff can give you figures for current player numbers (if that’s what you’re after), and even then, those numbers may be fairly meaningless to us as players. What are we going to do with them? "Oh, it only has 1 million* active accounts, it’s clearly not as popular as X game," or "oh wow! 1 million active accounts! Clearly it’s much more popular than X game." Only by being in game and experiencing it can you decide if there’s life in it or not.

They should remove it to the flat variant. It looks all kinds of wrong on something that doesn’t have anything to put in there, or something that may have two more sets of something but doesn’t have the shape of a humanoid equivalent.

Frankly, I’d argue for removing cups altogether on all races, but that would probably make too many people’s brains implode.

I refer to light armour in the main. I believe medium armour should also be addressed, like three years ago. So:

Give me the sexy man armour, Anet. I will give you my money - what little I have of it. :P Of course, I’d love for it to be a nice craftable set, just like a lot of the general level-up stuff is. Not everything has to be all singing and dancing whistles and bells in the Gem Store. Still. If it’s the only way, I will cough up cash for seeing something like my Age of Conan Sneakytim, who I’m attaching for reference once more. He was great to look at. Just horrible to play.

For my guys, I don’t want the waist always covered up, and half a man chest does not look sexy, it just looks like half a man chest. Also, go below the abdomen! Do it! Is nice.

Also, man arms. Men have them and I like them. I want to see them on my man toons (and admittedly do, cos Leystone armour and Vigil armour. I just want MORE, kitten it!). I don’t want a chest window (ever), but the arms should be out more. You do nice man arms, Anet. Put them out more. Is true story.

Please note, man knees (and I’ll argue knees in general) can conversely be abhorrent. Well, only sometimes. Maybe. This is is purely subjective of course, but I’m on a roll and I don’t care. Full length trousers with no kitten capes or skirt-style jacket attachments are absolutely necessary. It can’t be AC trousers all the time (or the level 10-20ish crafted stuff). Show all the leg or none.

I suppose I will accept the sight of man knees for the greater good. The greater good being we cannot have cut-offs in the wrong part of the leg, because that is aesthetic armageddon. Since there are differing leg shapes, one size is definitely not fits all, and full length trousers or no length trousers and exposed knees (Faren’s Swimwear Collection) is best. That said, I suppose I’ll allow some kind of Norn-esque man knee-length shorts. Because somebody somewhere wants that, and I care about catering to all. Yes.

There is probably more to write, but I’ve written it over before, and it never changes. It’s worse if you try to dress super-skinny twig chaps, too. Everything looks all ballgown voluminous!

Anyhoo, treat your lovely men toons better in the wardrobe department, please, Anet. I would like to throw cash at you for it.

Thank you!

Heya, OP! I can’t say it’s particularly easy to get the achievement all in an hour, but I did complete it yesterday - and it took a few days. I main as a Chrono, and those little pests you mention don’t like Wells very much, or Shatters.

There were some fails in the events along the way to getting the achievement, sure, but it’s not impossible. It might not be so efficient right now, but perhaps in a few days it’ll calm down and you’ll be able to finish it.

Good luck with it - hope you get the achi soon.

Running around playing flute was a thing? Cool! I have the harp, and don’t think I could run and play that at the same time. Maybe flute running/playing was removed for equality?

Mind, I play a flute in RL, and running isn’t really conducive to getting a good sound out of it.

Good call. I’d really like to see this option. I have a few nice back pieces I’d occasionally like to showcase ( ), but they get covered up bu the shield or clipped by the GS. I love my AC shield, but an option to switch between the shield and back piece would be great.

For those who missed it:

Update notes state: “The “Defeat the Inquest to prevent them from capturing the Ley-Energy Coalescence” event will now create player-specific versions of the ley-energy items to reduce competition.”

Seems to me that’s problem solved.

Do let us have your feedback on the event now that this has been sorted, ok?

Awesome! I wondered the other day if I was just being a bit crap at collecting the energy, to the point I was going to skip these events completely. Now I’ll be able to join in and get achievements (yay, achievements! <3).

EDIT!! Over zealous in terms of exotic armour, I mean.

I do get very nervous if other players are doing the puzzle. I usually want to get away from them as fast as possible, and fast isn’t always so good with JPs. Fast only works on something like Tribulation Rift which I can do in my sleep - and even then, I have to make visible stops and camera realignments to complete it.

I went with Dragon’s Watch as well, although I am slightly worried about the location of the apostrophe. The Watch belongs to the and/or a Dragon? Or the dragon is keeping a lookout for something? Is it about the dragon’s timepiece, or has the dragon has finished levelling as a Chronomancer? It’s cool if it’s any of those, or if it’s a teaser for Glint’s egg baby.

If not the latter, it should probably be Dragonwatch, but I suppose that sounds a bit too much like a weekly dragon news round-up, or some kind of tabloid-esque rag clearly biased against scaled beasties.

In hindsight, I should’ve voted for something else. XD

As an aside, I made a Sylvari thief today called A Twig Has No Name.

Do you not want my money ArenaNet???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

I have to pay €10 if I want to purchase gems - today, that’s more than 10USD (it’s a bit more than 11USD at the time of writing).

In other free-to-play unnamed games, I can pop €5. I prefer it. It doesn’t mean I won’t pop more, but I’d love to be able to pay €5 for those things that come in less than, say, 400 gems, e.g. transmute crystals, XP boosts. The fact that I can’t pay a smaller amount means sometimes GW2 actually loses out (and I grind the gold instead, if I think I can justify the gold price on the item - sometimes I can, sometimes I can’t).

I think a lot may be to do with the fact GW2 doesn’t offer any form of subscription - no "preferred player" or straight-up subscriber extra bobbins other than if you own the expansion. Taking that into account does change how much those gems can be charged for - in a way it’s less of an overt cash grab than other games I could mention. And yes, the fact we can use in-game gold does make a difference, whether I can personally justify the cost or not.

I’ll take this moment to clarify I’m not asking for a sub on GW2. One of the greatest things about this game is there’s no subscription.

Still, the fact remains they may get even more out of me if I could pick up some gems for €5 on occasion. Not sure if this can be fully reconciled.

How many of those other free games let you buy stuff with in game gold? Depending on who processes your payments and how much they charge, and the deal they struck, $5 could be not very profitable at all for the company.

Yep, that’s exactly the point. You can’t very well have gems for €5 (or $5, for that matter) when we get that in-game gold option, plus no sub. It doesn’t matter how much I may want the option for a little bit of ease on my out-of-game purse, it’s not really something that’s going to fly (which is why this particular want cannot be reconciled - except perhaps into defeat! ).

I’m not the hugest fan of clothing merch, but there’s certainly potential for other stuff:

A Sylvari night light. (‘Cause, ya’ know, sylvari glow at night.)
Job-O-Tron Furbee
Job-O-Tron gaming mouse
Norn stein
Charr stein
Asura stein (aka a shot glass)
Dog tags with your choice of Legion symbols
Book cover that makes your book look like the Book of Secrets
A pillow in the shape of a black lion chest
Prototype fractal capacitor wall decoration, or clock, or even a door knocker.
D&D sized figurines of anything/everything in the game

And, definitely +1 to the above suggestion of weapon replicas.

Medium armor on Sylvari...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

Sylvari ranger from my corner.

The armour is a mix of Leystone and Carapace, plus Gem Store sunglasses and T2 Sylvari leggings (plus Mawdrey on the back, which isn’t seen here. Mawdrey seems to go well with Electro Purple).
The colours used are Electo Purple, Glint’s Crystal, Amenity and Enameled Solitude.
The "hair" is a makeover kit style and colour (can’t remember which it is!).

It’s hard to look good whilst levelling without transmutes, but that can be said for any profession and race. So it’s not worth worrying about a look during levelling if you don’t want to transmute (I personally use free-to-apply stuff, gained from a few GW1 points and then the achievement skins in GW2). You might also discover cool pieces along the way. Some dyes are very expensive, but there’s often cheaper dyes that come close, and that’s more than good enough until you’re in your BiS gear.

In short, don’t worry about your look until you’re level 80 - and check the wardrobe and dye options at the bank. You don’t need to own the stuff to preview the gear and the dye (although you’ll have to suss the dye channels out in a quick trial-and-error).

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

Can we please please please please please have cat minis? Not the small ones- the ones that are mostly npcs? With the big tail and that are kinda fat? They’re so cute! The one that was on the gemstore was a little weird. Like it’s tail was super short. And as a crazy cat lady, I’d totally buy every cat mini in any possible color!

Yes!!!! More cat minis – especially nice fat ones like the ones I have at home….

Those were kittens and cubs on the gem store (not adult cats like Chauncey).

More cats in general is cool, however.

Cat ears/tail, too… (which would be incredibly interesting for charr…). Probably could spin it as Snow Leopard. Also the same in Wolf flavour, getting some Norn related stuff in the shop.

Can we have dark nights? Please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

Darker nights would be great.

That said, in the meantime, if you have a usable AC weapon, equip it whilst doing crafting. It’ll glow a lovely blue at night, and is rather noticeable. I use the shield and find it quite unmissable - I can’t tell if it’s true night time in some places, but the shield lets me know.

Also, I think most of the hubs have a clock chime of sorts when the time changes, so if you have the sound up whilst hanging around in a city, you might catch the change there - though I don’t recall if all of them do this. Definitely The Grove and Hoelbrak do, and I suspect DR too.

EDIT: Oh, and look at any passing Sylvari. Hopefully their glow is evident enough to tell if it’s night or day.

You can also customise your music to play different stuff at night time.

Seconded – I’ve noticed my spam comes when I’m in a city hub – be it LA, The Grove, wherever. It’s quite rare for it to come about when I’m in open world.

I do recall having a message or two when in the PvP lobby, but I’m not there enough to note if it’s a thing or not.

World Boss Daily vs jumping puzzle daily

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Why does it have to be “vs”???
Just give us the choice to choose the content we want to play.
More choice = happier players.

It used to be that way. What we have now is something of a better idea, but with less variety, so it’s not really that much better (YMMV). If we could have the variety we used to have, but only needing three of those things to achieve the full daily, it would be nice. Some would complain about things being too easy that way, that it trivialises things – but then, I suppose they’ll be the ones doing all the “hardcore” stuff, so what does it really matter to them if someone else chooses to play their game differently? Everyone comes in from different places with different time schedules, different abilities, different ping – there really shouldn’t be a problem accommodating everyone.
