EDIT! In relation to the update itself? I believe Bilacus had it right at “hamster wheel.” The sandstorms in the map make me a little sick, and although I appreciate the beauty of the map, I don’t feel inspired to work the place for the achievements I previously would’ve been after…

Just a friendly tip that the sandstorm only goes on from the 40-minute mark past every hour and lasts 20 minutes. I think, possibly with the exception of the Skritt Burglar (although his chest might spawn anytime?), you can do all achievements in the map between :00 and :40 past every hour. Just a way to avoid any nausea caused by the sandstorm.

Cheers, that’s appreciated. I’m just not sure I’m inclined to revisit the place regardless. Although, my OCD map completion tick is twitching. I may do it one day yet. At least that’s possible this time around!

You might want to take a look at the T3 asuran cultural weapons (unlike cultural armour, anyone can use the weapons). Although not fairylike particularly, they have a pinkish look to them (with gold), and have pink orbs which float down when you run. I have the GS, sword and focus on my asuran mesmer (and note the pink quaggan backpack!):

movement on the vertical axis is an obvious next step for mmo’s as a genre, .

MMOs should take a look at games like Uncharted or Assassins Creed. Forget this bouncing along like a maniac on a pogo stick, and put in some actual _climbing_.

+1 to more actual climbing.

Age of Conan has climbing in it - not everywhere, of course, but it’s still there and it’s interesting. Anyone could do it as well, since it’s only restrictive in as many skill points you’d put into it (and the skill points are there to use without issue).

It’d be a nice addition to GW2, if it could be created. In future content, perhaps it could even be an alternative route to jumping in some places.

EDIT! In relation to the update itself? I believe Bilacus had it right at "hamster wheel." The sandstorms in the map make me a little sick, and although I appreciate the beauty of the map, I don’t feel inspired to work the place for the achievements I previously would’ve been after (my issues with aspect jumping and whatnot aside). There are some other things that weren’t overly enjoyable, too, but now I just feel apathetic toward the place, and have marked it down as another Southsun: somewhere that’s just not that interesting to hang around. Which is a good thing, because from what I understand, the tier system isn’t forgiving and I wouldn’t want to be wasting someone’s time by not participating in the "correct" manner. :/

It effectively boiled down to another release containing some content Not For Me™.

The point that the original post made was the change in the play of GW2 making jumping a prerequisite to continue with the main story and play.

This is a valid point.

I agree with your post in terms of how people treat others. There’s a whole heap of people who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, but it’s one of those times that I’d say just leave it – you won’t convince them, sadly – and let karma and time deal with it.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from these forums, it’s semantics are everything. Just one word, one phrase, and regardless of intention, a post can be wiped from the slate as “lies”, “whining”, “kitten”. I actually wrote “kitten” there. It’s a fallacy of thought, of course, but it derails a thread no end and serves a cruel purpose. The onus is on any poster to make themselves as clear as they can, but not everyone has the skill, and from what we’ve seen, there is a dearth of forgiving, empathetic thinking. This is very sad, but I hope time will treat those who lack well and they evolve into kinder-thinking individuals.

I think the problem of semantics lies in the word “jumping” being tagged to the aspect crystal mechanics – they’re technically not the same. That’s not to say the mechanics don’t involve jumping – patently, they do – but using “jumping” as the barrier to story isn’t explicit. A lot of people may comprehend the meaning when it’s used in this context, however there’s people who clearly disagree and can use this as a (fair) counter-argument, even if there’s a lot to be desired in delivery. Irrespective, the timeout on the crystals was enough that I ended up having to do a smidge of jumping anyway.

I think the aspect mechanics can be fun, but they shouldn’t be used on a timer – unless you’re going after achievements, perhaps. Or at least, they should stack and have a longer timer, to allow for some thought ahead of action. And they shouldn’t be necessary just for the story scenes, no. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be used for it either, but an alternative should be available or a more robust aspect system which is in sync. with other bundle mechanics. Finally, jumping should never get in the way of story but it, if memory serves, never has. If it has, come with me and I’ll pop a nice mesmer portal!

The fact remains that it is fully possible to train up jumping ability and as such this is basically a non-issue. Especially since it is permanent.

Not for everyone. I’ve played mmos for years, and I’m not a bad player. HOWEVER I have fibromyalgia, my fingers are stiff so it’s hard to get the timing right. Trying to train this ability make my hands, arms, shoulders and neck cramp up and scream with pain. So I basically avoid all jumping in the game. I can play most of the game just fine, just not the stuff that requires jumping skills and very fast reactions.
There are many who play MMOs who either don’t have the body, reaction, PC or connection required to ever be any good at jumping, that’s why it should only be an OPTION in the game, something you can opt out of and still have fun!
I’ve seen on forums for other MMOs that quite a few who play these are disabled like myself. I’m not surprised. Gaming became one of my biggest hobbies after I became disabled and could no longer do all the physical activities I loved.

I think those who are able-bodied may sometimes have a hard time trying to imagine what it’s like for those of us who aren’t. I like to think that if such a person stopped up and really thought about it, they wouldn’t be so quick to judge. It’s possibly difficult because our varying conditions can mean different things – as in, some of us can do some stuff and not others, and some can do that other stuff but not that which… ah, you get the point – I hope! Also add in this method of communication in forums or games, makes everyone conveniently blind (and in this sense, everyone on the internet is disabled), and therein is a recipe for casual disregard.

I want to be somewhat forgiving towards those people who don’t know us or fathom us as individuals in our own right, although sometimes that is rendered quite difficult. Must. Keep. On. Trying. I suppose.

And doesn’t notice the real complaint here.

Is that one can’t take their time. It’s openworld, people should be able to take their time, and not feel rushed because the aspects will time out.

I think this would be the nail on the head. My broken brain just cannot deal with it. I have done the story, and the “boss” fight nearly had me in tears (admittedly I am rather soft, but it was incredibly uncomfortable to do, what with flashes and jumps and timed crystals and annoying tendrils – good stuff if you’re not epileptic/otherwise impaired, mind). It was frustrating, and for once, I actually don’t feel good that I managed it – for example I have actually felt happy previously for doing jumping puzzles and dungeons which I previously thought I couldn’t do. After this map, I just felt sick. I couldn’t even do stuff with my guild, which would normally help. If I’d had some time to adjust, I think it might have been a less painful experience. I know how to use the aspect crystals – though Fay’s guide earlier in the thread is a lovely gesture and is appreciated nonetheless – however the lack of time being able to move is indeed the major issue here.

So whilst I appreciate the concept of the map, I get the story and all that, I’m beginning to have major doubts as to my being able to partake in the LS. I mean, I’ll try regardless, but it’s no fun to log in and discover more stuff that isn’t for me (and I had some of that last season, too, so really, why would I expect any differently this time? Meh).

Jumping can be trained..... I give you arthritis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel, I give you stroke, amputations, and plain old bad hand/eye coordination that cannot be ’trained’.

The one thing that I like(d) about this game is that you were not forced to do things you don’t like or can’t do. Don’t like PVE, go WvW, don’t like PVP, go Dungeons.

I avoided the Aspects the first time they were around, I completely avoided the entire thing the second time around. I haven’t had the chance to try the new zone yet but if you MUST use the aspects to progress then I won’t have any of my characters able to do it, plain and simple. Charr or Asura, it won’t matter, I will never get any of my (currently) 14 level 80 toons into that zone.

I don’t care if it takes 4 times as long to do it without the Aspects, it should be POSSIBLE to do it without them.

Yep, agreed. I think they’re trying to make me feel more decrepit than is absolutely necessary with this content. I’ve done the story (and a fight in it made me despair at my wrists and seemingly increasingly poor reactions, ultimately rendering it no fun), and figure that’s me done for this content.

I can only say to those who have no issues, you’re very lucky. Enjoy it.

Edit: Not sure I’d trade either, even for a legendary. I mean, the Toastie has been around since prelaunch day 1 (it’s a character in its own right, has "personality" and its own song my kid sings), and Most Improper took ages to name and is also very conceptual in its aesthetic. Thus the names have a meaning to me I don’t think a trade would allow for.

I’ve had to evacuate from a busy town centre in real life once before (and once was enough), and I think it resonates on that personal level with me. There’s something of a precedent for this, in that it’s been done for a while in Age of Conan (the Followers of Asura, funnily enough), and in the Secret World (I don’t know about other games, mind, but it wouldn’t surprise me).

Huge ruins spider overscaling?

Ceridwen.6703

I have happily soloed the spider earlier this year a few times. Then experienced it megaserver style (lots of other players around the ruins), and it became a bit more of a challenge. That particular time I was playing on my engi, which I’d not looked at in any serious way for about a year, so it could explain a little clunkiness. It wasn’t especially dangerous, just seemed to have extra XP to account for the other players.

Then I came across it whilst alone once more (I think it was last week). I could hardly scratch it with my main character, and it didn’t even have its little friends with it (I suspect someone else had a go and got them out of the way ahead of my being there). I actually had to run away from it! Have never had to do that before, even if it was something of a back-and-forth kind of fight previously. I didn’t see anyone else in the ruins at all, but I suppose they could have all been nesting on the rich platinum node, twiddling their thumbs and watching me bravely run away from the oversized arachnid.

Dear Anet,

We, the players, would like some more armours, and it would be simply spiffing if they could follow the following in their design:

*More sexy but with sexy equality
*Trousers (pants) for all
*Free charr paws and asura feet
*Less trenchcoats (I like them, but I know some don’t)
*Full skirts of all lengths for all
*Less buttcape (or none at all)
*Armour which actually fits
*Choice ‘n’ stuffs

Yours, with much love and hugs,

A bare chest on a man isn’t the same as exposed breasts. And neither is exposed buttocks. You simply cannot compare them. Bare chests are a sexual symbol.
Type “sexy guy” in goggle search chests, chests, chests.
Except that for some reason, in certain countries, men without a shirt on are just chilling and women without a top are being kittens.

I did! I Googled it! Always happy to take one for the team. On occasions, such as this one, I even enjoy it.

A lot of what I saw wasn’t just the bare chest alone. It was that old Apollo’s Belt I’m always asking to see in GW2 that hints of stuff I probably can’t discuss here. The bare chest is completed with this, and this is why there should be a few pairs of trousers with an actual lower rise so this can be seen. It should work for lady toons too, for those so inclined. I’d actual just redesign the harem pants this way as an optional craftable at level 20, or whatever it is (not throwing the original out, mind). Regardless, it’d be thinking in V.

However, Urban Dictionary just informed me the Belt is also called the Devil’s Shoulders, which for me, explain so, so very much.

I wonder how reactions would be if that was a girl asking for a guy around :P

I saw an “experiment” video on The Guardian website not long back, where a woman propositioned men in the way men have oftentimes spoken to women. A lot of men were simply bemused; thought she’d lost her marbles and asked if she was feeling well. One guy took her up on her offer. A lot were quite confused as she shouted certain things from the van she was driving past them.

The only, yet major, difference was the men didn’t appear to feel threatened by the woman in any way.

Make of that what you will.

As I have no direct experience, the guy asking for a girl from Sweden is currently lying in the odd category.

Just ask Anet to have more variety of armor choice for both side, win win.

Someone claims that there are more skimpy than non skimpy armor, that is a lie or unless somebody cannot properly count. When i am looking at the armor sets, all i can see is well covered armor for every weight class. For skimpy armor, yes, some of them are half naked but it is a rare case.

The armor designs are well following our modern fashion direction, female fashion are more focus on slim cut, tight fit and even boob holes and mini skirts. Why? Because guys love it. In real world, for practical protection gear are not designed with "attractive" in mind. But this is a game, and this is where this kind of fantasy are possible to exist out of real world.

So be productive, stop telling skimpy armor is wrong, instead, suggesting possible walk around solution for the kind like yours.

Not many argue for the removal, or that the sparser armours are in themselves wrong. There is an argument to appreciate or allow a different perspective, however, and that’s clearly rather difficult to do. Ignoring people who are not the "guys" when determining who apparently loves what is particularly disingenuous toward the player base (I say apparently; how many would say they want a particular thing so as not to appear different from the perceived status quo?). Some players have been posting, saying they prefer other things for their fantasies.

Thus, the other perspectives I began with which must also be considered. Asking for a game to embrace differing preferences isn’t a bad thing. No one has asked for the unmitigated removal of the more revealing armours, and would be unreasonable to do so. Whether someone prefers a more realistic approach or the ultimate fantastical show is personal. Having a preference in and of itself isn’t wrong. We should be able to celebrate all whilst being able to retain our choices. I suppose I’m advocating a live and let live approach: as this is a (fantasy) game, we in theory harm no one by making such allowances. If a person is unable to do so, then I would humbly suggest they have the problem, not those who embrace different choices, and should seek immediate ownership thereof.

You know, if you look at it, through very squinted eyes and with much imagination, as an attack at his heel (rather than the front of the foot - and I would suggest it’s foot or feet; if GW2 have a reptilian design basis), around what would be equivalent to the Achilles Tendon, that’s not damage to be sniffed at. It could be rather fatal. If we could get at all his feet, that would be quite epic.

To be honest though, I’m lazy. I usually just stand off at the side and send lasers at his head. Occasionally his tail. I like to aim it so my clones sit on his nose, or just in the air, distracting him, so the brave melee fighters can go and give him a pedicure. I really don’t want it a whole lot different. There’s room for relaxed dragon bashing and full-on communicative dragon bashing here (though I still think open world raid content is ill thought-out, it’s not going anywhere).

I do not force them to wear skimpy, they shouldn’t force me to not wear it , by advocating for less skimpy armor sets.

Hint, not all women want to be dressed up to the neck... and down to the ankle... well, unless it’s skin tight... maybe..:P

Buy ya.. #1 all the way.

I don’t think a vote for "less skimpy" immediately calls a ban on everything that is the opposite. Frankly, if you want that armour, more power to you. I understand. It’s not necessarily an Us Vs. Them situation, though, and it’s not conducive to debate to skewer it that way.

A lot of "female human/norn/(somewhat) sylvari armour gives the impression of being indentured to fanservice. If you are the fan who is being serviced, naturally you are happy; you do not care, you’re not affected and can go about your merry way. That’s great if this is you, but if you are someone who’s not being serviced (in the best possible sense. Behave at the back, there!), then it seems very imbalanced - maybe even unfair. How come over there get what they want.. and because I have different wants I’m ignored? (Please note, this question is rhetorical.)

There’s such disparity between the genders (and further, across the races) in terms of armour, and it makes no sense. That’s not to say there aren’t choices for the overdressed and the underdressed - there are - but they’re not gender-balanced. Asking for balance, or choice, isn’t wrong. For example, let’s use the starter light armours for comparison:

Female: wears skirt so short it could be called a belt, also bits of it are uneven in length; an interesting and fun top which is marginally suggestive yet mostly inoffensive (although suggestive and inoffensive are subjective); plus some odd boots which are sort of cool (lace-ups are nice, height is nice, heel is debatable but not game-breaking), but suggest feet have perhaps been bound.

Male: Lots of clothes. Long "coat", long trousers, reasonable boots. Quite covered up.

I understand Vive la différence!, but these looks for the "same" armour set are nigh on polar opposites. This is what makes it come across as fanservice - but only for one set of fans.

It would nice for something of a mix to be available. If I want a character to wear that skirt (male or female) it should be possible, and from the outset. Same with any armour. I know this entails a lot of work on Anet’s side, of course, and I appreciate it’s not at the top of the list for things to do, but I still ask for it. It baffles me it’s not like this already. I mean, we should start off with a selection of all armour styles, and pick and choose our look from these, rather than just be set in one particular armour. It would give us more variety in our appearance from the get-go.

And, as ever: More trousers without skirt attachments!. Free Charr Paws! Free Asura Feet! Full skirts of all lengths! Armour Equality! For all!*

*please advise of any I have missed. I shall add any I agree with to make my new signature. I suggest others do similar!

Season 2 and Trahearne

Oh, it’s not all bad with the Firsttwig. Yes, the voice is monotonous, but he didn’t exactly start from a place where his voice matters. The guy didn’t even socialise regularly with the living. Besides, I just don’t know where he’d fit in the time for all the elocution lessons he clearly needs.

The Firsttwig’s Wyld Hunt is not the same as the player character’s Wyld Hunt (if you’re a fellow twig; mission or whatever for everybody else). It just happens to be instrumental in allowing the completion of ours. The Hunts run tandem, and no, we’re not the only heroes (in The Secret World, they tell us this from the outset, and don’t spare our feelings. Not telling us we’re not the Chosen One? Therein lies the problem). Cause and effect, action, consequence. Things knitted together; all things are parts of the greater whole. The concept, I believe, is a good one; the execution could indeed be much better. We just needed a little more spice, added around the situations we were presented with.

So, yes, the Personal Story could have been better. But it’s too easy to say it’s all one NPC’s fault.

His AI, however, is terrible indeed. In hindsight, possibly the most fearsome thing about him. But I’ve noticed that with the NPCs as a general group (bar the necro Aria Venom, in Kessex Hills). This is where we have to suspend disbelief, to keep the gameplay "in balance". Whether we think that’s a good call, or not, is a different debate for a different thread.

I would dearly love the choice of picking, without detriment or cost to me, what "gender" armour my characters wear. Excellent idea, Grizzly.

And more trousers and full skirts for all who wish them!

Also, I remember this from Faowri, which is similar to your thoughts: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/Gendered-armour-splits-design-maxims/first#post3393088

Female Light Armor Leggings -- All skirts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Most females are dudes IRL , skirts are better to look at.

That’s a foolish statement.
First, you assume that there isn’t a significant female player base for Guild Wars 2. In fact, there are a large number of female players. Do they outnumber male players? No. But they are a significant customer group. In this day and age, it’s inaccurate to assume that female character=male player.
Second, you act like all males share your opinion about skirts. Some males prefer skirts, some males prefer pants. Whether the guys in question want a realistic character, or a sex doll, their personal images of said character will vary widely.

Honestly, who would NOT want more variety? :/

Agreed, for the most part. Just wanted to add: one can’t assume all male characters are male players, either. The only safe assumption is there’s likely a human being driving the character. Unless it’s a bot, of course. Though, I’m pretty sure bots don’t care what they wear.

I’d also add, I play male characters and female asura because it means I don’t have to contend with either a lack or overabundance of armour on the females (human, norn, sylvari). I do have to deal with buttcapes, however, which are a treacherous beast. I’m now saving up my Ascalonian tears for the AC pants, which are quite yummy. They would probably work quite nicely on a lady human/sylvari/norn, too.

That said, I always liked the conjurer pants on the ladies. On the other hand, I wish there was a masquerade skirt that went around all the way. And had a different, extra top part that was a bit more complete (it wouldn’t be masquerade then, but just a full ballgown type thing, and I’d have no issue with the suspenders remaining). Plus more pants.

What it comes down to: Everyone Needs Trousers! Bring the Trousers! Pants for Plants (and non-plants)! Light Armour Users Want Nice Trousers! Without Bits Missing!

And some underwired bras might be necessary for some characters. Or sports bras. Frankly, I’m surprised the Tyrian chiropractors and osteopaths don’t get more business.

Sometimes I wonder if threads like this aren’t just a challenge:

"Convince me to stay."
"Agree with me that I’m doing the right thing."
"Give me meaning to my existence."

Whatever explanation is given, it’s just a surface scratch on the player issue.
The OP knows their comments are a small drop in the ocean - it’s even acknowledged with a "for what little it’s worth". The "I’m leaving" part is the sucker-in, so their comment doesn’t have to be lost within one of Anet’s feedback threads. It’s to get attention, thus naturally will draw the "Can I has your stuff?" posts. Even if the discussion that comes thereafter is the OP’s valid assessment of how they see things.

It’s fair to give a feedback assessment, but it should be labelled as such. If you have to make mention of your leaving, then it should be a small, minimal amount of your post. If not, at best it just draws quick-wits, at worst, it appears a troll post - either of which can lose the points it was trying to make. I’ll admit I just saw your topic title and wanted to post "Can I have your stuff?" without even reading what you had to say. I tried to be the better person and read your posts, however. I still want your stuff, mind.

I sympathise with your experience, OP, despite what I’ve just said seeming to say otherwise. I just wish you’d posted this as feedback and not mentioned quitting as your primary draw. Still, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

...you should keep your stuff, by the way. In case you change your mind, in case the game’s model actually does change to what you’re after in the future. After all, you’re not paying a subscription.

Too many particles in tight spaces (some places worse than others) can make my neuron-challenged brain short circuit, so I do what I need to do and have to get out. No real loot drops seal the deal on the permanent exit.

I am in no way a foot fetishist, however charr paws should be free! (they are paws, right? Not feet)

Anyhoo, I’d be more inclined to play charr again if this occurred. Literally the only thing stopping me before was the way the (hind) paws are treated. Really! Well... that and how charr behave with JPs.

Free charr paws! Stop paw oppression now!

Tbh, more freedom and styles with armour across the races would be great. Proper structuring on sylvari armours (remove smoothed bustle), truer equality between the sexes, optional boot removal definitely for charr and asura, and so on. There’s been some great suggestions from the community in this vein. I hope at least some of the options would be taken on board. At least optional boots should be easy to implement.

Game Updates: Traits

Just adding to the noise: levelling is now somewhat more painful than was really necessary. Two steps forward and one giant leap for Tyrian-kind backwards.

Not particularly enjoying this change at all, and I have been testing it for a little while now. Previously, we could enjoy a fuller game whatever level we were - now it has a tepid quality during approximately two-thirds of the process (my own personal experience, the mileage of others will invariably vary). The game’s "epic from the get-go" idea was not broken - it certainly didn’t warrant the change in trait acquisition.

I’m an altaholic, and this whole thing has me wondering if I’ll have to change my ways after I finish my current character. I never really thought I’d have to do that with this game. I’ve taken breaks from it, but I’ve never really considered quitting. There’s still enough good points to ensure that I’ll stick around (aided by the lovely guild I find myself a member of), but there’s less joy to be had in what I previously found the most fun. * sad panda moment *

In the same boat here, but I’m 35.

I relented last Christmas and acquired a GW2 account for my 7 year old, although she’s only allowed to play under supervision (and often directly with me - our guild tag is OHAI because she loves Lolcats).

Being honest, her father and I realised a while back that raising a child gamer was the only option we had: we discovered her farming resource nodes in Age of Conan when her dad had taken a bathroom break. She had, IIRC, just turned 4. :/
