Ohai! Can I take 39?
I run the signet when doing material gathering. I turn it off when going into a hub because my brain would literally melt if I didn’t. I love my twig mesmer to bits, but sometimes he really does need to shut up - particularly when he’s daring everyone else to hit him whilst he’s refining materials.
I don’t believe in censorship.
I believe in kittens!
We have a guildie with epilepsy who can’t play certain elements of the game because of the effects. Our guildie had a really bad time of it with one of the fractals – a snow blind one. CoF is another that is a real problem and can’t be played. The flamethrower on the engineer is a ‘repeat offender’ as well. For me – well some of the effects can trigger migraines if I’m playing the game for too long (zerging in EoTM for example).
I love the slider suggestion….if devs could give us the ability to tone down the effects and soften the patterns (white on black for example), that would be most excellent!
I am said guildie, therefore I echo this request. The Snowblind fractal and I are so not friends right now.
The new warhorn sound is abysmal, but hands down the most annoying sound(s) for me comes from the super minis, chiefly the banana. It makes me want to destroy everything in a hundred-mile radius.
I thought I’d lost mine, but I had my char who had the hat (before I evidently deleted it) speak to the town clothes merchant, and I received the hat again through that. When I spoke to the merchant, I was actually hoping I’d get my old GW2 cap back (because yes, I stupidly deleted that). I didn’t get that, of course!
See official twitter tweet: https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/637278666070757381
Thanks for the heads-up!
I’m afraid I have to add my discontent to the mix. The new warhorn sound is... not pleasant. It’s like a whoopee cushion got stuck in the neck of the weapon. Please, revert it at the next available opportunity. If the old sound has issues (which I’ve clearly missed reading or hearing about, so would love to know the why of the change), it has nothing on the disturbing lack of presence and major flatulence of the new sound.
actual warhorns sound better:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNVvtvmpl-g
Those were great! Thanks for sharing. I have a feeling we’d get very annoyed by some of these sounds if they were integrated into our game, but it’s a base to work from. You can hear a definite presence in the sounds - you know who’s coming, and there’s business to get down to. They give a real sense of fear to be instilled within respective enemies - something which a fart noise doesn’t really do.

Do charr have the guts of their enemies for garters?
Anyhoo, if a wedding dress outfit or whatever (Wha’?! I don’t even, but some probably do) is failing to have stockings involved in the usage of its garter, it’s likely following a Western tradition, so the links tell me. I don’t do traditions of this nature, but then again, I’d never be caught dead in a wedding dress, garter or not. Having looked at the pictures of the proposed item, I can safely conclude this purchase is not for me™!
I think I’ll have a cup of tea now. Yes.
It only takes a few minutes (maybe 5?) to do ‘Master of Ruins’, and I very rarely run into any players from an opposing team. It’s about as PvE in WvW as you can get, barring ‘Big Spender’.
Good luck.
I often go into WvW when it’s fractals on the daily. On my ranger, more often than not. Sometimes I’ll even go for camps, particularly if I see someone else hanging around for the same, but Master of Ruins is nice and quick if you’ve not much time.
I am in love with it. Shield is nice (lovely phantasms), and the elite skill is schmexy.
Confirming bug re unable to interact with canons is still in place.
For the maps, are you meaning the Silverwastes and Dry Top (there are other level 80 maps, but these ones may be the least apparent for getting into)?
Thank you guys for the mystical dragon, by the way. I have wanted that thing ever since I saw it was a thing.
Absolutely – saw one in-game today, and thought “Must have.” That doesn’t happen often with me, either! Am now proud owner of a mini mystical dragon, and enjoyed seeing a small queue of them wriggling about at the Behemoth event earlier. Really great mini and totally worth getting some account security going.
Hi! My mother actually has a similar situation and has been locked out of the game for nearly 2 weeks now for attempting to purchase HoT on her own credit card, is there any chance it could get looked at?
ticket #1640701: Account closed for using credit card
You might want to try a repost in this thread, if you haven’t already.
I think a glider is a sensible option, given the terrain. It’s not too big, can more-or-less be controlled, thus can likely get in and about a jungle canopy to some extent, and is clearly made of something so lightweight it’s easy to hoof around with - although we don’t have to worry too much about the realism of carrying the thing about, or how our various armour and weapon ratios will actually affect the glide.
For (presumably) short distances, it’s also likely the much more economical way to travel independently.
I’m a Sylvari main (and in total I have 6 Sylvari characters) . I’ve gone on record saying I don’t want my guys and gals to be evil, and they and I refuse to be so.
I hope there is something of a choice - or it’s just for a short period (like an event as mentioned further up). Something like the Lunatic Court at Halloween would be absolutely fine - but not the story. No way! My mesmer will have a tremendous sulk if so. I don’t want to deal with him sulking. He’s terrible, and has embarrassed me in public before. So please, no forced evil outside of some fun events!
Great news! WB, Avraham!
Thanks for looking into this, Michael! I think it will be appreciated. <3

Yay! We got my wife’s account back as well. It seems the tickets for Review thread works after all. Thanks Ceridwen for hoping for me when I had sort of given up myself.
You’re welcome! I’m glad to hear it worked out in the end.
I’ve completed the PS a fair few times now, and it’s true, sometimes an instance gets bugged. For me, usually restarting the instance fixes it (if you can’t waypoint out, log out to character screen and back in again).
EDIT: Ah, Vayne! You just beat me to it.
I hope it gets sorted out for you, Avraham. There’s also the stickied threads for tickets older than 72 hours if your most recent ticket takes a bit of time. If you registered all the way (even a new account by accident?), maybe it’ll take a little extra tweaking to put right. My experience with Anet’s Support is that they work quite quickly, so hopefully you’ll get some more information soon.
Good luck! And let us know back here how it goes.
Yeah, same thing, I bought my girlfriend the HoT Expansion the same time I did, but the second purchase (which was hers) was refunded and her account was suspended. She sent a ticket to them yesterday, how long does it take for them to fix this issue?
Timing is likely a case-by-case issue (basis is the 72 hours Trogdor says), but for me, I filed a ticket initially on Monday 20th regarding the refund, before the account was suspended, and received a response later the same day. It didn’t answer my query, so I wrote back to Support for further information, and whilst awaiting a response from that, discovered my account was suspended (21st July). I added another email to my ticket, and received a response the same day advising further investigation was required - less than 24 hours later (still 21st July, technically 22nd July for me in the EU) I got my confirmation of ban reversal, and am just waiting for the refund to reappear in my husband’s bank account before making the purchase again. That can take somewhere between 3-5 business days (so not the weekends, just Mon-Friday, which is standard practice).
Again, it’ll be a case-by-case basis, but it’s good to keep ourselves informed on how our cases proceed. My initial ticket did advise they are quite busy.

What the hell is a wizard? XD
It’s a practitioner of the magical arts. They tend to congregate in academies or schools in order to learn from wizards who have being doing it for a rather long time. They often come with beards and robes, in particular the male ones, who are usually the wizards. The female ones are often called witches, as this helps to work out who gets to grow the longest beard. Sometimes. Some have pointy hats. They may or may not catch steam trains to school. Some go to university, where the library is looked after by an orang-utan, who was a wizard once.
True story.
Good news is good! Welcome back to Tyria!
Cheers! I think it’s important to update with the good stuff as well as the not-so-good! It may give someone else a little hope, too.
I have an update!: I’ve had another email from support, advising that the payment processor deemed the transaction suspicious, hence the account suspension. Support have reviewed my account, and deemed the purchase absolutely fine, so my account is freed up again (huzzah!). I’ll have to ask my husband to check if the refund money is back in his bank account again, as we have to purchase a new copy of the game for a new serial code (my old one and HoT one will no longer work). Hopefully the purchase will stick this time.
Zohane, I hope you get your situation reassessed. Perhaps a chat with your card provider, and their take on it may be of use? I don’t know how much it would help, but perhaps they can assist with advice or confirmation your card use is acceptable. If so, maybe you can then try opening a new ticket. Good luck with it!
Blurr out your email address in the picture, or remove the image altogether, as hackers can get hold of your account easier if they know what log on email address to use.
Good point! I’ve removed it.
Thanks to everyone else for input!
I know the forum can’t help per se - I’m asking if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, how long it took to be resolved, i.e. I’m asking for the player side of the coin. I already have a ticket open and know the Support team is looking at it.
I will say, I’ve had confirmation from Support that this will take further investigation.
Hi all!
Just dropping a line here to ask if anyone else is in the same boat (I’ve already got a ticket with support, more of which below):
I originally purchased GW2 back in 2012. Did a beta, was in headstart. I’ve only taken one month or so completely away as a break, and have played relatively consistently over the years.
Last Saturday, 18th July, I pre-purchased Heart of Thorns. As it was a birthday present, my husband’s bank card was used, but as we live at the same address, the billing address remains the same. I’ve bought gems on his card before (and yes, sometimes with my own, too!). Never had a problem with paying for anything before.
So the purchase of the expansion goes through, with only one small hitch in that the form didn’t seem to like our Norwegian address - I had to confirm it was correct in order for the sale to happen. I registered the key code sent, and then received all the associated items with the Ultimate edition in game very quickly, and have had a lovely weekend flaunting the new stuff off and spending all but 5 of the gems - what? I planned what I required beforehand! ;D
Anyway, yesterday morning, Monday 20th July, I received an email advising my refund request for the full amount of the Ultimate edition had been accepted. Except I hadn’t requested a refund - other reasons as possible reasons for the refund were "the fulfiller’s request, incorrect address, or a refused shipment." Alarm bells rang due to the issue with the address field, and I contacted Support via a ticket straight away. I advised I didn’t ask for a refund, and that the only thing I could think of was the address was problematic (although since it’s never been an issue before, I have no idea why it is now).
Support reply saying it’s simply to do with the core game refund offered to all who upgrade to HoT after having bought the game between January and June 2015, and not to worry. If I’ve registered my code, then it’s all fine. Except it’s not, as I bought the core game in 2012, and you can’t refund the total of the Ultimate edition of HoT for that. It makes no sense. So I fire off another email (this time including amusing anecdote referring to the Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna expansion of 2003 and the terrors of Uwe Boll making films), and a little while later, I decide to log in to do my dailies.
Except I can’t. My account is suspended because of "account issues." You’re not wrong, GW2, you’re not wrong. Issues there are indeed. :/ I’m a sad panda, as I only got back into the game last Saturday after nearly two weeks away on holiday. I’ve numbers to catch up on! I was so happy to finally make the pre-purchase, too! XD
I’ve added to my support email advising of this, and thought I’d bring it to the forums for discussion: are any other vets experiencing this situation? Or, have you experienced it and it was resolved? If so, how long did it take to resolve? I’ve dailies to get to, achievement points to acquire, etc., etc.!
EDIT: I should say, when I made my support ticket, it said my core game Key was invalid - I presume the HoT one overrides and nullifies it. So if they have tried to refund the whole €99 for the Ultimate HoT edition, it ends up with me not having a working game - which is just nuts!

Apologies then. I’d assumed that the only NPCs in Lion’s arch who had the title “Captain” visibly displayed were council members. I must have missed the garden variety captains – at least those with the word “Captain” visibly shown.
I’d add to the title of the forum that my assumption was incorrect but I don’t think I have enough characters left to do so.
At the docks there is a “Lionguard Captain” npc.
Frankly, Evon couldn’t have done a better job then Ellen, and was far shadier. Not surprising more people voted against him :P.
Captain is a rank that doesn’t specifically tie to boat ownership. You can have a “Captain of the guard” who doesn’t own a yacht – or sail, at all. I just found it odd that we are suddenly, visibly, told that Evon owns a boat when it wasn’t worth mentioning in every living world event up until this point.
I agree that people didn’t vote for Evon because he was shadier. That said, if we didn’t received pouches with an Evon bribe and a vote token but instead obtained “sponsored” vote tokens (which rewarded two silver if you voted for Evon with them), I think the vote would have gone very differently.
“I am a very, very nice and pleasant person, and thus it is registered I voted for Evon Gnashblade, Charr of the People. He’s so much more than he appears, he understands the financial ramifications of running a business, he understands LA and how to keep order. He also didn’t take any kitten from his old warband when they wanted to extort the people of Lion’s Arch. He gives a kitten about LA, even if he appears in a bad light sometimes.
Kiel is a seemingly nice person who is not qualified on any front. Sure, she can investigate stuff, but apparently that skill is hit and miss: when entrusted with the security of LA, it went southwards fast.
After somehow managing to con everyone into voting for her, she also gave us a seizure-inducing fractal! This evidence clearly shows she’s not as nice as she appears. When it comes down to it, I’ll trust the charr – at least he’s honest about who he is and is competent with the cashflow to boot!"
Disclaimer: Please, don’t take this too seriously! The above is from the point of view of a ranger character I actually had removed from the premises a little while ago. I don’t really care either way: technically I voted for both of them and should never be trusted either!
I’ve posted about my most recent death in a different thread (here ), but will reiterate:
1. 29th June, 14:00 approx., CET
2. Ceridwen.6703
3. Seafarer’s Rest
4. Frostgorge Sound, just outside of the Kodan camp at Slough of Despond
5. Running back to finish mining a mithril node on top of the cliff
6. "Include a GIF file of your untimely death, if you can do so" - can’t, but did have shots of afterwards included in my original post. Can repost if required.
7. There was a noticeable lag spike for a split second, but nothing other than that.
8. My character was drunk and using a speed buff at the time. Not sure if that really makes a difference. XD After waypointing back to Slough of Despond, my character was bugged, as though she was underwater. Have amusing screenshots involving "Landshark" in the other thread. They also indicate the server (?) may have though the Claw of Jormag event was still active, as the ice wall appears to be present, and the canons are possibly mid-shot. For clarity, the Claw event had finished about ten minutes or so before I died, and I’d finished up on the kodan Castaways event thereafter - purely to purchase the alcohol required for the Brewmaster achievement.
On the first image of the other thread, you can see the mithril node on the minimap. I couldn’t actually mine it after my respawn.
An MMO lives and dies by how well it attracts the average gamer, not the small group of elitists. When content becomes unplayable to the average player, this is a problem with the structure of the game itself, not the player.
Incorrect. Sure the average player is very important. However, it’s the hardcore, dedicated players who drive the long-term life of the game. If there were no hardcore players, average players would go through the game, get to the end (level 80) and wonder what is there to do? Theres no hardcore players doing dungeons? No one is discussing the best builds or how to make the best gear? They conclude the end game is stale or dead, and quit. GW2 leaks players badly because it’s very easy for new players to get to 80 without ever joining a guild, without really knowing about fractals, legendaries, or anything. The most common reason people quit is because they got to 80 and didn’t know what to do. Casual players have less investment in GW2. They play to their whims, and they leave. If we relied on them exclusively, the game would be dead. You should be grateful when a game has a good dedicated hardcore community, even if they are the minority. Those people actually have a passion for the game, and you are treating that like some kind of disease.
If a full, well-organized map can’t reliably win, this leads to the downward spiral that we see with Triple Trouble where people don’t even bother any more.
Full, well organized maps CAN bear wurm very easily. It’s not that hard. You just have to know the mechanics, which takes all of 10 minutes on google to learn.
I WANT to play TT but I can’t because 90% of the time, there’s no one there. And that other 10% fails. There is absolutely nothing that I, as an individual, can do to remedy this. Anet has to fix this. Teq will quickly become this if faith isn’t restored quickly.
90% of the time no one is there because it doesn’t spawn all the time. It spawns at a specific time each day, which makes it better for guilds to organize an event. My guild kills it 3 times a week with 50% pugs. Yes, half of the map is random people that we invite into our group to help us kill it. We explain the fight to them in person. We provide food buffs and everything. Your attitude toward this specific encounter is ridiculous. It’s designed for a large organized group, not an individual. There’s plenty of solo-able content in the game. Anet doesn’t need to change this ONE ENCOUNTER to suite your whims.
I don’t really have a horse in this race, but did want to ask if you were EU located, and if so, what time is it you and your guild eat the wurm? Every time I’ve tried in the last few weeks (and that’s pre-patch and HP mania), it was horrible fails. I can’t claim to be the best, but I’d love to give it another go with some people who organise it and know what to do.
Should say, I technically qualify as a veteran player! Just one that never got around to actively pursuing the wurm.
In the meantime, I may try Teq this evening just to see how horrible it is. Or isn’t. XD
Probably a little late to the party, but thought I’d chime in anyway: I’ve had my main character do all Personal Story, and did the LS stuff when it was available (and twice over at that), so all content is unlocked. After the recent change to the Arah story dungeon, I’ve been taking in my alts, and after each completion thus far, I’ve been directed immediately afterward to Arcana Obscura.
I like that particular part of the story, yes, but I don’t necessarily want to have to be instructed by the nag text on my alts for more stuff. I default to having it turned off, and I’d love for that off to actually mean all off. Also, slight derail: I was after a sly hair kit from the Distorted Reflection achievement. I started it off whilst holding the torch, but it then seemed I switched to my own weapons (even though I’m fairly sure I didn’t tell it to!), and when I’d killed the doppleganger, I had the divine fire torch again. The achievement didn’t take, and I’d not mind a clue as to why (and it’s not really an issue to run the instance again - as I said, I actually like this one a fair bit!).
I was just posting my experience on this, but the forum ate it. Not sure what happened there. :/ I shall attempt to add my experience again!
Anyhoo, I was in Frostgorge Sound, having just done the Claw of Jormag and then after the Rescue Casataways event by Honor of the Waves. I came out of the water, minekittenhril node, and went to the kodan who sells beer after the Castaway event (for the Brewmaster achievement). I saw on the minimap the mithril node is still there, so thought maybe I just missed the last bit of it, and decided to go and finish it. En route, I experienced a rather noticeable lag spike, after which I died on the spot. I know this sort of thing is happening right now, so just went for the Slough of Despond waypoint.
I came back equipped with underwater weapons, and one of the pets I use underwater. However, skill two off the weapon was missing. I went back into the water to see if that would fix it, and skill two came back. I was also able to swap my pet to the shark and rename it. I came back on land and the results are as you see in the attached pictures. Amusing, yes, and I probably should’ve tried to fight on land with the underwater weapons - but as I was unable to mine the remaining mithril, I thought the weapons would be the same.
*"mined a singular mithril node" gets eaten by the kitten censor ("a singular was actually just the letter "a")? Wow!
(edited by Ceridwen.6703)
So, I popped my Monkey King tonic when activating Omadds machine in Living Story 2 and… oh my gosh what the hell is this?
That’s… glorious.
Seafarer’s Rest, no doubt about it!
Don’t know if it’s "broken" as such (it’s not in my remit to kitten such things!), but I found equipping a fall damage trait worked. So it can be used as a temporary measure (assuming the fall is borked).
EDIT: Kitten filter! I used a word synonymous with evaluate, but apparently it was filtered for being an equine with large ears.

Please see this very accurate video recreation of my reaction to this news: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HV_O3BA5e28
So, GummiBear, you say you can enter? How about we team up. I make the emblem, you sneak it past the gate guards and we split the winnings. One of our citizens is the Crown Princess of Denmark now which basically makes us family. Ohana means family. And family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten.
All in all, though, it is good to hear some of the reasons why this might be case. Even if the end act of not being able to participate is ultimately disappointing.
I’m in Norway too, although I’m British. As far as I can make out, we can’t enter from here.
I’d like to hear if it’s not the case, but we’re definitely not mentioned in the rules (the EU countries are all individually listed as able to take part).
Made me giggle since it instantly remembered me of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLMAnyway, well done guys!
Oh, that video! much laff
It’s so true. -_-
Pachelbel’s Canon! W00t! I can appreciate just how difficult it is to play anything cohesively, so good work. *subscribes and shares*
I applaud a request for more instruments in C, but really, I’d prefer the ability to play sharps and flats. Please, Anet! (although, likely never going to happen.) My harp and Debussy fetish will thank you. I may even acquire a flute to play Syrinx (a "signature" piece of mine about twenty years ago).
It’s another word for (more) kitten armageddon.
It’s that brutal, you don’t want to know.Kitten Armageddon is a myth, the best kittening warriors in the universe will save us!
I have a horrible feeling the end is nigh. XD
More Kittens a-maging? Mage kittens? Wizard cats!
Clearly some kind of new devilry spawn from Inquest experimentation upon Charr Flame Legion.
Beware!
And how many of those “every other big MMO” does not require a subscription to play?
Make sure to make the character the “right” way from the start if it is such big of an issue to pay a rather small amount of gems to change it later.
They need to get money from somewhere. And I for one prefer if it is for things like these instead of from selling game-effecting stuff.
The Secret World, IIRC. Also, Age of Conan – AoC’s hair stuff isn’t even in the game store, it’s bought off street vendors. IIRC, it was something like 15 or so silver to change the hair (which is absolutely nothing in terms of game currency, and doesn’t matter if you pay a sub or play for free).
Sad to burst your bubble, but TSW and Age of Conan are no where near “big” MMOs. If at all they have become niche. Also both of those MMOs started with sub fees and have a way different subscription model now that they have gone f2p compared to GW2.
Also TSW has a membership option which enables delux content (not sure about AoC, to lazy to check). So no, the game is in essence NOT free.
Heehee, you’re not sad at all! And I don’t have a bubble! How very dare you. :P
And yes, you’re right, they’re not technically big any more, but that’s effectively splitting pun-intended hairs.
TSW is buy-to-play, same as GW2. Cash shop items are discounted for members of varying tiers, they get bonus points per month. etc., and a few cosmetic items a free player doesn’t have access to, but none of it is required to play the game at all, and it’s certainly got nothing to do with the hairs available in the barber shop (which is what this thread’s about).
AoC Unchained is the Free-to-Play with subscription model which, in all honesty, is madness to play without. Hair styles, however, remain cheap and easily accessible to all with in-game money, irrespective of being a member or not.

Condolences, OP & your guild.
I think your suggestion for personalised Guild Hall markers or monuments is excellent. I hope it’s implemented so you, and any other players with similar wishes, have somewhere to collectively remember.
Or it’s could be some sort of surveying equipment.
It’s exactly that. Theodolites are actually a regular piece of surveying tech, measuring angles.
I’ve had this for a little while, and I typically F12 to the character log-in screen and right back in again to clear it. Is tedious, though.
I always liked Age of Conan’s Vanity Tab - it overrode the look of your character’s gear, but not the stats. It was also completely free.
I see. So I should turn off map chat and not get event notifications because some people want to act like children? No, I think that’s probably not right.
And no, carebears don’t rule this forum…carebears rule this game. Proud to be a carebear. If it means that I’m a nice guy, who would rather play cooperatively with people than beat the hell out of them, sure I’ll wear it. Happy to.
The PvE in this game was designed to be cooperative. As for changing things not affecting us, well, it does affect us. Because all those other games have options to turn off PvP and whatnot and they all still suck because design decisions are made around that open world PvP that affect everyone.
And since I don’t need my PvE being affected by open world PvP (there’s already too many PvE changes that have been dictated by PvP), then I’m happy to not have it at all.
Saying something won’t affect other people doesn’t mean it won’t.
My favorite reply in this thread so far. I so agree to this and a proud carebear too.
I concur! Also happily signing up for Care Bear status. How caring, being a kind and generally a good individual wanting to help out others is a bad thing is beyond me.
And this is exactly why the forum needs avatar picture, so we can all put carebear avatars on our posts. Sign me up for carebear status.
I call dibs on Grumpy Bear
Okay! I shall be Cheer Bear!
