Randomly losing target lock midcombat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

It happens to me the most when I’m fighting Teq. For some reason my lock on the nearest foot goes away, and when I tab to get it back, I instead get the head or the other foot...

I have noticed that if I wind up facing away from any mob I often loose my lock, too... makes kiting a little more challenging.

This is probably what’s happening to me and Teq: he fears me, making me face away for a moment, and lock is lost... I’ll have to pay a bit more attention to this on the next few fights to be sure.

~EW

This happened to me when I did a Teq run the other day, only in the no-fear post-battery phases, every time. Being told every other second I need a target for a skill when I already had a target - and a rather sizeable target at that - is rather disconcerting.

Edit: seems I had the right target thing checked. Now deselected and hoping my sanity returns.

Magic Carpet and Broomstick suggestion

Welp, not sure how feasible it is, but if the player on a carpet is treated as a transformed new object, it might be possible. I know that if you’re transformed into, for example, the snow leopard in the Wayfarer Foothills heart, you can actually glide as that, without the glider itself appearing. As I can be quite childish, I find it endlessly funny. XD Also I was a golem the other day (don’t remember why), and that did gliding without the glider appearing. It was quite cool.

Regardless, I agree with Rose – some sort of paid upgrade, or a new purchase would likely be necessary if this was to be a thing.

If they did it it would need to be an in game earned option as the toy would remove the opportunity cost for traiting for permanent swiftness. It would be a bad idea to put that in the gem store.

Well, that’s food for thought, but we’re discussing gliding and the toys. This is probably the only thread that’s not on about swiftness and the toys this evening.

The kittens are becoming a problem

I think kitten has a kitten. Kittens become very hard to understand when most of the kittens are replaced by kitten kittens. This is also patronizing kitten kittens. This way of kitten is also ignorant of how kitten use kitten. Most of the real kittens are kittens that get into kitten and cause you to become upset subtly.

This is a perfect example as to why GW2 Forum Mad Libs would never become popular.

Feed the kittens if they’re being a problem! They need to be loved, just like everybody else does.

I like the kitten filter - yes, it’s sometimes annoying that ordinary non-abusive words get made into strange feline contractions, but then at least I don’t have to read someone’s inability to use bad language correctly. My sanity is thankful for the kittens. They’ve made it into my everyday vocab, and as small and insignificant as it may seem to those of too hard a heart, those kittens have enriched my life a little.

Over at the Sims forums, they have plums. I can assure you all, the kittens here are much better than plums everywhere.

I couldn’t give a cheeze doodle as to whether or not the toys got buffed for speed - although I’ll admit, mine just sit in the bank not doing much. I did enjoy having them "jump" up little ledges and similar though. Looks funny.

When I’ve played about on a carpet in the past and wanted to be fast everywhere, I did this: Be a mesmer. It’s the best profession anyway ( ). Use a set of armour with Centaur runes, and weapons with sigils of swiftness. Be at least level 60 for the superior versions of both runs and weapons. 80 is probably better, and Chrono’d up might be good too, but Chrono wasn’t out at the time of testing. Go to a low level (ish) map - I used Fields of Ruin - where you can kill things quickly. Do so, and ensure you have about 3 minutes, if not more, of stacked swiftness. Pop Signet of Inspiration and hop on your travel device of choice. Zip around not being in any way useful, but at least fast. Jump up and down ledges, trying to avoid the device being reset. Rinse repeat as necessary. Win!

It’s not an older toon - it’s only 20 days old. I have 20 gifts of exploration in the bank, however, so it’s no the first time I’ve done completion.

The WvW maps haven’t counted for about a year, I don’t think - certainly the last few characters I’ve run through the completion process haven’t needed to check in there.

If there’s been no super-recent update, I’ll have a final look in all the zones *just in case*, and then if no dice, I’ll pop a message to Support. Thanks for your help, all!

Does anyone know if there’s been an update in the last patch, or even more recently, to the requirements for world map completion? I’ve done completion quite a few times before, the most recent in the last couple of weeks, and whilst trying to finish on another character today I admit, I’m scratching my head as to what I’m missing.

From what I can see, I have all the core Tyria maps done, plus the Silverwastes, Dry Top and Southsun, although those last three I’ve never known to count. I don’t have the HoT maps done on this particular char, and the numbers leftover don’t add up anyway. For the record, I’m missing 10 waypoints, 4 vistas and 23 PoI and I’ll confirm the core maps I have at 100% are:

Rata Sum
The Grove
Brisbane Wildlands
Metrica Province
Caledon Forest
Sparkfly Fen
Mount Maelstrom
Divinity’s Reach
Kessex Hills
Queensdale
Harathi Hinterlands
Gendarren Fields
Bloodtide Coast
Lion’s Arch
Hoelbrak
Wayfarer Foothills
Lornar’s Pass
Snowden Drifts
Dredgehaunt Cliffs
Timberline Falls
Frostgorge Sound
Black Citadel
Plains of Ashford
Diessa Plateau
Fields of Ruin
Blazeridge Steppes
Iron Marches
Fireheart Rise
Straits of Devastation
Malchor’s Leap
Cursed Shore

plus Southsun Cove, Dry Top and the Silverwastes.

They’re all 100%, as I said. I’ve also logged in and out, but it’s still sitting at 98%. I’ve done Chantry of Secrets, too. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help!

so that means yet again ill not get this shield ahhh so frustrating i really want that shield

I’d recommend simply playing through the game, salvaging things you get as drops and hitting every node you see everywhere, then refining those materials and selling them on the TP. Any tier 6 mats like the Vial of Powerful Blood you should amp up using the appropriate Mystic Forge recipe, and sell on the TP after you’re done. You won’t get the shield today, but give it a week or two of consistant mats farming and selling, and you’ll probably have the gold to just buy it outright.

I’m after a Jormag or Kralky theme, with a chance to outfit DE 2 or similar with what I want them to use, similar to choosing runes and whatnot in PvP.

More maps to explore solo, but with appropriate challenge, and not all based around a map-wide meta that requires taxiing and never getting in on the map. A more organic feel to any world boss type events (sort of how it used to be, and similar to if a guild starts the event).

More armour and weapons - not just as rewards for this, that or t’other, but new looks for the levelling up journey as well as anything that can be considered "endgame".

I could go for personal housing on a small scale, and would like to craft furniture and musical instruments, such as pianos, for use in said housing.

Gems available for €5 (as well as the existing €10+). The option to save gem store items in a basket for a period of time until I want to (or can) purchase them - might be a problem with limited availability offers, I suppose, but I never have funding when those offers pop up! But for the stuff that’s there all the time, or for a longer period, it could be a nice QoL change. Although that doesn’t have to be an expansion perk, really, but it would be super useful.

Also, cat and/or wolf ears.

SUGGESTION: Glider Equip/Unequip Toggle

Just stop holding down the space bar, you only need to tap it in order to jump.

You were right, Zoltar. I’m getting "Learn to Play" responses now.

During my self imposed jump-training camp, I determined that the longer I hold the spacebar, the further I jump. (Or maybe it’s higher. Or both.)

I figured this too (I now break jumps down into long and short jumps), and it bugs the cheeze doodles out of me when the glider deploys mid-long-jump. If I’m doing it wrong, I’d love to be corrected!
Yet I know that if I checked the proposed glider box off, I’ll end up jumping to my death wondering why I don’t have my glider*. I am that daft! Still, I like the idea and would appreciate its implementation.

*Something a bit like this actually happened, a few weeks back. I was murdering harpies in the open world Harathi Hinterlands, but it must have been on the edge of the (underground) jumping puzzle, because I fell down the side of the cliff and died in an embarrassing heap at the bottom of it. I had expected to glide, of course, and failed to see the "no glide" icon, because I’m quite clearly blind, and there was no immediate reason for it to be a "no-glide zone".

Why haven't you built a Legendary Weapon?

Initially it was a load of grind for weapons which didn’t suit my tastes or my characters’ styling, plus the fact the precursor was RNG. Now precursors are something you can make, I almost thought about it - except it would send me into content I don’t enjoy. If I’m going to grind something out, I at least want to enjoy what I’m doing! But mostly it’s still the fact the legendaries’ looks don’t fit in with my characters. The skins I do use, however, look much better.

Plus the footprints occasionally gave me the impression of a cowpat plopping out behind people as they run away. It doesn’t seem too flattering... XD

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I did do some raiding with the last guild I was in, sort of learning the fight. I could only get so far before the graphics tried to kill me - the VG did some shiny orbs of electrical death or something, which my epilepsy didn’t agree with. I don’t remember it particularly well. Then I had a hard time with a green circle on a green bit of floor, in that I really couldn’t see it, what with other flashy stuff going on and the general green-on-green madness. Seeing as I have no desire to commit suicide playing a game, and the fact I’m no longer in a guild, I have no sensible reason to try and get back into a raid. In that sense, yes, I suppose I could be afraid to raid.

CC tutorial for dummies is needed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

There are two problems with the CC thing:

1. It’s not very intuitive that you need to use CCs to break those bars. I understand that it is a mechanic of various fights but it does not make really much sense.

2. This is the biggie. Even if you know you need to CC, and you know what it stands for, there is absolutely no indication in the skill descriptions regarding which skills count as CC.

So you are relying on players seeking information outside of the game: wiki, youtube, forums, and most people are just not going to do that. Which is why we often see someone completely losing it in chat at events like The Shatterer, abusing all and sundry for their lack of CC.

“Soft CC’s” are even less logical. Why does chilled count when burning and poison do not count?

Trying to explain this stuff in the chaos of chat before a world boss is rarely going to work.

Going off this, I actually think an alphabetically structured guide in the appropriate section of the Hero panel is needed – you know, actually sitting with the skills and whatnot. When you select the skill or mouse hover over it, its tooltip should say if it’s CC or not, and what kind. Said guide should elaborate on this.

Your currently played profession information would be priority, and whether having the information for other professions would be too much clutter is up for debate – although a handy pointy to where What Them Other People Do is listed wouldn’t hurt if it was thought a bit much.

I have no issue with the visual of it, but sometimes, on a new character doing the map completion in the city, the option to toggle swiftness off would be great - in particular, for certain vistas it’s not really needed and can complicate the jumps a smidge (although for other vistas, it’s excellent to have the "free" swiftness another char worked on).

I appreciate your time and effort you put into your comment and yes a few people have quoted Gaile tonight and the information was taken aboard. While we haven’t exactly come up with any new ideas tonight. At least I know where Anet stands on this type of stuff a little better. Maybe it’s the different countries or something, maybe I’m not tuned in _enough_ but I thought everybody was supposed to be taking certain things a bit more serious nowadays with regards to online harassment. Maybe it’s because "Online" is not a physical place and can’t be held against any one country’s laws etc BUT I always think more can be done to cut out the middleman (_police or whomever they be_) by preventing it occuring ingame first. And as such was looking for other ideas outside of our current block/report system.

I appreciate that. I think, however, you’re really looking for a larger shift to the positive in behaviour patterns in society as a whole. Behaviour in-game is a result of complex conditions outside of the game, so the best thing you can do is take responsibility for yourself and conduct yourself in the manner you would like to see from others. I think your heart is totally in the right place, but go easy and take small steps. It’s not something you can change overnight, and you’ll likely end up with more headaches if you try to take it all on at once.

As I said, I advocate the block and report system. For our in-game purposes, for the average ordinary troll, it does work. For the stalker types, you need to contact the police. A few people telling such a person that their behaviour isn’t cool probably won’t work. Having a rule in place saying they mustn’t harass people actually won’t make a jot of difference. For death threats - not the asinine wishes of plagues on people’s houses, which although horrid, are not actual death threats - for when you truly believe your life, or the life of someone else to be in danger, that’s a straight-up police matter. Again, no gaming rules will make a difference here. I wouldn’t look upon the police as the middlemen, either. In this sense, that would be ArenaNet.

EDIT: although if you were receiving death threats in GW2, I’m sure ArenaNet would like to hear about it in an email, wherein you’d say X has occurred, and you’re taking it to the police. Given that the police would likely need to speak to ANet about it.

I have seen all different threads from beta to present day and its the same idea in a continuous line….plain pants for light armor female characters….NOW to get someone at Anet to actually help us achieve this.

I appreciate all commentary and believe me, I am not bashing anyone, just asking for something I think is a simple request.

I’d personally been asking for this for a few years. Also more revealing male armours. Hasn’t really happened. Very disappointing. I’m on the verge of suggesting we all get our heads together and make some sketches and submit them for kind consideration.

In the last few months I’ve been playing some other games, and can say ESO affords the player character some dignity in this respect (whilst having some other armour issues that it needs to attend to). Age of Conan has something of equality when it comes to the armour for both sexes, plus the fantastic vanity tab which is far superior to what GW2 is offering, although it’s an older game with other issues.

Heya, OP! I’m what most would call "overly sensitive" (as if that’s a bad thing); I also have depression amidst a small collective of other annoying problems, and have also left the game for a few months, coming back only two days ago for a fresh start.

That out of the way, I’ll concur that still some of the stuff people witter out in game is devoid of humanity, common decency and has all the intellect of a sub-par dung beetle. I have an exceptionally low tolerance for bobbins, and block people left, right and centre for the most minor cases of vitriol-based verbal diarrhoea. Only yesterday, I blocked a good 10 people or so within a few hours. Some probably didn’t even deserve it, but I don’t really care. As a result, my life is a much happier, more pleasant one, and I advocate blocking people who bug you as the best way to deal with your average hapless, or hopeless, troll baby.

Blocking really works. Not only do you not have to hear that person again, if you’re lucky, lots of others will have just automatically blocked the annoyance out. Long story short, one day, that person may find no one actually responds to anything they say. Job, therefore, is done.

I’ve seen people on my block list still playing, but to be fair, I block for minor offences and the person blocked may not require any form of suspension or ban for what they’ve said. But the majority of them (gold spammers notwithstanding) appear greyed out. I have to think, somewhere, something works against the ones I did report. Reporting is only for the most severe cases, of course - racist, sexist, picking on one person (as opposed to blaming everyone in their section of wherever in a group event, which is just worthy of a block). Even if some of posters in your thread say they haven’t seen such behaviour, I know I have, and that’s when you block, report and move on. This is the extent of what you can do in the event of horrible behaviour - although earlier in the thread someone did say you can offer encouragement in chat, and support your fellow players. You have to show the behaviour you want to foster in others - lead by example.

If you have someone being more persistent than average, the advice offered by Gaile Gray and quoted in this thread stands. If you have someone harassing you, stalking you, and/or issuing death threats, that’s genuinely serious business. The gaming community as it stands can’t really help you solve that one (real life social climate has to shift first); look to friends and family to support you.

I don’t know if this helps the discussion you were asking for, but I hope it helps a smidge.

But, what I’m concerned about, here, is not the cheesers of GW2 losing some of their cheese; especially, as they still have, at least somewhat, cheesy raids to “enjoy”.

It is the people who, genuinely, needed the game to be less challenging, for some reason.

Maybe they can’t play much, or have disabilities that affect how they can play and/or for how long, in one stretch, or whatever.

Or maybe they can, physically, play it, but they find it stressful and that stress affects them negatively.

I’m just concerned that they may have paid a lot for an xpac that they really can’t enjoy much of, at all.

Very late reply here, as I’m no longer regularly reading the forums. I only read this here this evening because I wondered if anything was better now, but it doesn’t seem so. Now I simply want to chime in and say the above is pretty much what happened to me. I don’t particularly want to go into it, but suffice it to say I’ve quit what was once enjoyable since it is no longer so, have been fogged with depression which of course hasn’t made it any better (and I stupidly burnt bridges as a result of it), and I have actually uninstalled a game I never thought I would uninstall. I played because it did help me forget about my real life health issues – but in the end, it just forcibly reminded me of them because I wanted to try something different. Still, no one can have my stuff, as one day I might pop back for a bit and need it.

My head feels lots better for not playing, however, though in hindsight I do regret the amount of money I have put towards the game – although it’s good to see there are still happy people playing, and kind people thinking of others. I don’t begrudge anyone their enjoyment of GW2, however my experience turned out, so I hope everyone gets a little something of what they want gamewise this coming year! Happy gaming, all.

Raids NOT Color blind Friendly...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Hand, wrist, and arm disabilities

  • Reduce clicking. Add options like:
    “Open all bags”,
    “Salvage all greens”
    “Sell all minor sigils”
  • Improve autoattack.
  • Separate support and offensive skills. Right now you can’t enable the “always cast AoE skills on enemy” option to radicially accelerate casting, because if you try to use a support skill e.g on the Druid, IT GOES TO THE ENEMY. WHAT.

One-handed gameplay (loss of a limb)

  • Improve mouse support. Allow cycle-casting skills with mouse wheel.
  • Improve auto-targetting.
  • Add in-game voice chat like Blizzard games.

Colorblindness

  • This is easy, add a high contrast mode like most games have. Typically blue and orange are the colors used, but making it configurable would help.
    Neutral: White
    Good: Blue
    Bad: Orange

Spatial focus, problems seeing 3D, etc.

  • Improve the minimap to tell you where you are, rather than just trying to display it pictographically. Physically show the location name, distance to the next objective, whether its higher or lower, all on the minimap HUD as a textural read-out that is easy to follow, not just as ambiguous icons.
  • Make the world map not take up the entire freaking screen. Put it in a window. This would also greatly improve WvW gameplay (no more dying to a Thief or running off a cliff because you were trying to check fort status).
  • Show dots for all players, not just those in a party or guild (like WvW).

Visual impairment (partial blindness)

  • Improve halo support. Add thick borders around all objects.
  • Add a way to clearly mark which skills are more blindless friendly, for example skills that are auras, autocast or otherwise passive, like signets and banners.
(This could help with one-handed gameplay as well.)

Audio impairment (deafness)

  • Add an option for increased visual queues, like screen shaking.
  • Better subtitle support. Many NPC dialog liines do not appear in chat (bug?).

Epilepsy and similar

  • Tag each graphical effect with a priority, this would range from 1-10. Then add a slider that eliminates everything below a certain level.
  • Smooth out transitions using interpolation curves.
  • Try to use a more consistent color palette, like brown-yellow-white. Don’t flash pink or purple all the time just because a Mesmer is attacking.
  • Add skill icons above players and enemies’ heads to replace graphical effects.

General improvements

  • Add freaking life bars and buff bars to our allies so we can stop freaking spaming everything that we have at random hoping we hit someone who needs it.

This is wonderfully thought-out. If you make a petition of this, I will sign it. If you make it a Suggestion and I will second, third, fourth it, whatever it needs. For now, I am out of raids and mostly out of the game (feeling too miserable with it to continue for the moment, although I will likely come back to do a few small scale standard PvE things).

Raids NOT Color blind Friendly...

Being an opportunistic kitten here: I’ll also add that some sections I’ve thus encountered are not 100% seizure friendly either. They might say particle effects are reduced, but it means jack if bosses churn out flashing globes of death above pulsing floors of ow. I’m trying to think of a fix for my own personal benefit, of course, so I can still contribute to the DPS and not die, both in game and in real life (ooh! Dramatic. I can have fun and laughs with my disability!), but for now I still feel pretty meh about it. They can’t design a game around me, I know that, but an option to kill all NPC or player particle effects and flicker would be appreciated.

But in keeping with the colour blind topic (sorry for the hijack), I’m not colour blind, but seeing the green circle atop the green segment of the dais is kitten ed hard enough. If you literally cannot see the colours, then it’s got to be really tough. I sympathise, for what little it’s worth. A colour-blind option should be available, as opposed to in my case, where I think it’s just too difficult to fix in-game and needs to be addressed with further outside solutions on my part.

I’ve played everything, and my favourite is still my Mesmer. There’s nothing else that feels quite so natural for me, except perhaps for ranger. The list from my favourite to least favourite is:

Mesmer
Ranger
Revenant
Elementalist
Engi
Guardian
Necro
Thief
Warrior

I love the glittering wings backpack! Now make it a glider.

Also, bring the rainbow unicorn finisher back, preferably at a point when I have cash for gems! Feel free to personally check out just when is best for me.

Spoiler end of story: Are you happy now?,

Ceridwen.6703

I still haven’t finished the story - I’ll do it when there’s (hopefully) some sort of fix to the bugs that were occurring in my last attempt. I did, however, get to discover Trahearne’s predicament, and it did make me rather sad. I had hoped to save him, because he was alright, and didn’t deserve what happened. I’d already promised him tea and cake. I’m sorry to read he dies (although I’ve been skipping the absolute specifics).

I also thought Eir dying was bobbins. Way to be all fridge-y. :/

I run zerker on all my characters (I have one of everything), and haven’t really found it to be a problem. Have to be a little more wary, yes, but I suspect I’d have to do that regardless of gear. You just have to run with what feels best to you.

Obviously you were looking to hook some one like me, expecting me to engage in a flame war.

I’ve decided to get back into the jungle, to become a great swords master like Lord Faren!

I only need 4 trustworthy compadres to follow me around and drag my skill deficient corpse around because I’ll be dead within seconds of being rezzed, who wants in on this fulfilling exciting opportunity?

I will! I’m taking a few days off due to wrist and hand issues (played too much and now have the reaction times of a thing with very poor reaction times – admittedly, it’s only a little worse than what passes for normal these days), but I expect to be back in there in a day or two. If you’re EU based, give me a shout.

[SPOILER] Last Boss way too broken

Ceridwen.6703

Mine is bugged too. Updrafts didn’t work, and on the second attempt, the first rift spawned off the edge. I have a screenshot to prove it.

I personally can’t put more time into something that is very twitchy already for me (however much I actually enjoy it, my wrists and fingers are saying no, my brain wants all excess light to be turned off and thus my response time is now rather poor). I did, however, spend some time humming the Benny Hill music whilst kiting around. That was fun.

Change to HoT Story Gating

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ceridwen.6703

I did the whole quit chapter 14, start 13, and so on, and was able to start. However, the third rock chose held no interaction (although I was able to select to interact, nothing happen, and my char said nothing). Tried restarting it again, and couldn’t interact with the second rock, I think it was. Will keep trying for as long as I can be bothered, but may well end up having the previously required mastery before it works.

Ceridwen.6703

Thank you so much! I’d actually stopped up on that story point due to needing to progress the mastery - something I don’t actually have much issue doing outside of the story - and it felt the gating really held up the immersion, and, without wanting to give any spoilers, the urgency of the story in this particular case.

I was a sad panda, but now I’m cheered up again! I shall wait for the update before continuing, and shall have some Halloween fun in the meantime.

Faren is a favourite of mine. He makes me laugh and yes, he’s an idiot, but aww. So cute. So adorable. I love what he’s doing thus far in the jungle. He’s such a Dedicated Follower of Fashion, he’s modelling "the latest" in male jungle attire for us. Awesome!

I agree, Faren should never change.

Who 'owns' Guilds??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

You are the owner of the guild. No if, ands, or buts about it.

They gave it to you and left. They have nothing to say now about who own it. If they want to run a guild differently, they can start one up and do the hard work themselves.

If I were you I would take away their guild message privileges, even if it causes bad feelings and they leave the guild. No one should EVER use guild messages to make personal remarks or to promote dissent. They have shown by this that they can’t be trusted to act properly.

This answer is what you are looking for, OP. There’s not a lot else to be said.

Can't use my healing skill (its grayed out)

I had this issue as well today on my farming ranger. Got it to level 11 (it wasn’t far off, so ran around a city map for the extra XP) and the skill became available again.

(EDIT! So I suggest trying to level it as well - just to 6, in a city. Just enough of it to level, and see if it fixes it just through the level up process, and if not, send a message to Support for assistance).
