I use Centaur runes, temporal curtain and for an added bit of fun, I have a sigil of speed slotted.
Post-60, I have nearly 100% uptime on swiftness – it can probably 100% for someone who times it right, paying a small bit of attention. All these are very, very cheap until you have the traveler runes in place (if you want them).
which will limit your build by a ton. if u have torely on a rune only because of speedbuff and also a sigil, thats that extra power, or condi or anything else everyother class can choose form u are missing right there. so if i lik power and toughness rune i cant cause i run centaur? u know 10 less toughness does make a difference. and that extra condi or power or condi removal like melandru…..just saying being bound to a rune is not a good thing at all.
Hey now, I never said it was perfect. But if someone wants to have speed, it’s there as an option. And I personally find it fun, and don’t feel especially limited.

Can’t change the model but if something like TexMod could change the creature’s skin to have transparent legs it would look less like a spider, I suppose.
Not sure if TexMod works with GW2, but it undoubtedly has a community that can tell you.
Maybe changing it to the air elemental look (I think they share the same model)?
Also Mount Maelstrom has a strong asuran and sylvari presence, being classed as Maguuma as well.
Whereas I agree there’d be clipping issues, long hairs from the top of the head of the men would make me happy. The beard, not a thing for me. But fun for others so should be there in full hirsute glory!
A texture mod that actually changes models would probably be something ANet would ban for. It’s highly exploitable, and I’ve seen something like that go very, very bad in another game I used to play.
"Was is it Skyrim?":http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28 =D
That picture you attached is evil. *shudder*
:)
i kinda am in the same boat, i have arachnophobia and at times avoid spiders in skyrim.
however, the spiders in GW2 are hardly something i fear, if the spider would fill the screen in size maybe but i really can’t get scared of the ones in GW2.
Oh, those Skyrim spiders are the worst! Caves of them! Chittering! Guaranteed to make me screw up combat. “KillAll” and job’s done. Not the point of playing the game, however.
I’d agree GW2 spiders aren’t really in the same boat, however. A little freaky, yes, and there’s maybe a few places worth avoiding or taking in friends (TA maybe, a skill point place in Timberline Falls I can think of, and the cave in Gendarren Fields).
I blame Tolkien for the fantasy gaming obsession with oversized arachnids, myself. Meh.
Updated the Leveling Guide to the new trait system. Still facepalming on ANets design decisions on traits and leveling…
I think I am fairly done with the mesmer profession for now and probably with GW2 too. So I see this as my farewell present as you can not have my stuff.
Best regards -
Kaiyanwan
I’ve kept using your build, even through the recent update – I enjoyed the lazy build so much I started another for fun – and just got to 60 today. There is a noticeable difference between the first one I made with your guide and this recent one (pre-60 it’s a little lacking in its previous oomph because of the trait situation), but for mostly enjoyable PvE, it still works well.
So, thank you again! I’m very appreciative of the work you put into the guide, and for your sharing it with us. Good luck with whatever you do in the future!
I have apparently died 174 times. I don’t believe it for a second; pretty sure it should be lots more than that!
I stepped into Fractals for the first time ever last night, and experienced much death. I’m sure if I’d played them before now I’d have a suitably high count. As it is, I’ve probably just had standard ignoble open world death the most.
I’m going to be cheeky and lump a lot of stuff under the one title of "Overall Game Arc Completion." It runs thusly:
1. Anet releases an expansion related to Mordremoth, which includes permanent map additions/campaigns/dungeons where appropriate.
2. Next, they release expansion related to Jormag*, which includes permanent map additions/campaigns/dungeons where appropriate.
3-5. Rinse repeat for other dragons. Also feel free to add extra mini non-dragon content for flavoursome switch-ups (standard festivals, SAB, etc. Request SAB to be permanent content, although I personally cannot take part in it).
*Or any of the other Elder Dragons. Not fussed on the order, just would like the set-up to have the pay-off it demands.
My mesmer gives you a +1, OP.
4 80s.
2 with map completion, and one with just the WvW maps left, which I’ll do when I can be bothered.
4th 80 has lots of map completion left and it may never get done unless I get really, really bored.
Hey guys, I managed to get an answer from another forum:
Hi Lishtenbird,
Yes, this isn’t the correct forum. But I went ahead and inquired internally here to someone who might know. In short, this can be considered a bug, but one that is not easy or fast to fix. There is a desire to address this along with some other improvements to the tool tips of transmuted items. But there is no ETA for this.
So in other words, this will likely be fixed once devs are done with game-breaking bugs like non-resetting daily resets, crashing PvP arenas, bugged world bosses and broken iWarden.
Whilst it’s not the most gamebreaking of bugs, it’s good to hear it will be addressed at some point. Thanks for posting your response, Lishtenbird!
I’d love to have my Jormag’s Breath labelled as such again. Not Berserker’s Pearl Sabre of the Berserker Pearl Sabre, or whatever it is now. Unless we’re actually saying stats are now more important than the skins (forgive me for thinking that it was sort of the other way around when it came to shinies in the game). It’s not actually game breaking, just a small disappointment.
I am in awe.
Lord Faren: every home should have one.
Excellent! You guys rock!
Please stage more.

You know, OP, it’s truly depressing how some people think they can just type and say anything like this. I admire you for posting this, and showing directly how it affects others, and trying to come up with a solution to negate it. I like your idea as a general QoL addition, but I just don’t like why you’ve had to come up with it in the first place.
During the Queensdale champion train the other day, I actually turned map chat off, because it was sexist and insulting. I’m sure the people posting the comments just thought they were with some kind of "in-crowd" and being all cool and stuff, but really it’s just pathetic. Thing was, I cut the map chat, but found it takes away the good map communication and co-ordination. In other words, I lost out on the game experience. So what to do? Am I supposed to report a group of people who are using sexist (or in the OP’s case, homophobic) language? Then it just looks like I’m serial spamming complaints. Should I screenshot, take their names and email support with a complaint after the fact? I don’t feel the report feature in-game accurately covers the offence, but there are chat logs that can be checked. Regardless, I ended up logging and feeling miserable for a spell afterwards.
What I do know, however, is that we shouldn’t have to put up with these attitudes from anyone. OP, it makes me sad and angry you feel your option is hiding. You shouldn’t have to hide, or filter things out. Those people who say the hateful things you’ve shown in your screenshot? They are the ones who should be invisible. They are the ones who should have to filter, be excluded. Not you.
How, in a game with a Code of Conduct where it explicitly states no verbal abuse, is this allowed?
EDIT:
1. While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. It aggregates data about you, like your party, guild, language, home world, and the map copy where people you like to play with can be found…
I’m scared. (see attached image).
1) The ability to maintain focus, recognising telegraphed animations in due time, and reacting accordingly. Also to overcome photosensitive epilepsy in order to achieve the aforementioned.
2) It’s ongoing. It’s a journey, not a destination. Each bit I do well I count as a win, but there is always room for improvement.
3) A flatscreen monitor is easily the best thing for me. It could use a higher resolution, but I’m working on that. Also an alarm (on phone) to take regular breaks (must remember to programme it). My mouse is a tiny thing because I’m short and only have small hands. This way, it’s a literal extension and easier to manipulate (although I would never object to some buttons on the side if it somehow metamorphosed overnight). Also a pre-programmed selection of classical music in order to remain calm even when I’m royally screwing it up.
4) I learn by research, observation, then by trial and error. Then, if I’m still alive, I do it all over again until there are no errors. I attempt to learn from the errors so they don’t occur again. However, being photosensitive, I accept that I am unlikely to ever be perfect. And I own that.
5)A lady never tells you her age. She just tells you she’s old enough to know better.
.. However, since I’d never class myself as a lady (just an average woman), I’ll be in group D.
First of all, I do understand perfectly about those who have real physical problems with the bobble heads. I do not have motion sickness, epilepsy, or massive headaches because of visual stimuli, however to this day I cannot spend more that about 3 minutes inside of SAB without being horribly ill. Too bad, too, because it looks terribly fun. I feel for you.
Having said that, it seems to me both in-game and here in the forums, the majority are enjoying ANet’s little side trip into Silly Land.
The thing is that especially in the US, most everyone knows that April 1 is a day for pranks, hi-jinks, and silliness. If you have been around the folks at ANet for any length of time, then you also know they do stuff like this EVERY YEAR. If you weren’t ready for something like this to happen, then it’s not their fault.
Enjoy it or not, it’s up to you.
Tomorrow it will be over, and you can be happy doing your serious business.
Aside to ANet: Thank you for the fun. I had a blast! Can’t wait to see what you do next year
Oh, it bugged me; I couldn’t play for any great length of time. But I did enjoy what I managed! It was funny. The tea came out of my nose a few times (ow). My kid loved it, my husband laughed. We don’t even celebrate the day as such, but it doesn’t matter. I appreciated the grins.
Bears are indeed the best (evidence attached), and I discovered quaggans are xenomorphs in disguise. I also humbly submit one of my asura for the cuteness stakes.
Standard forum post since 1999/Everquest release:
a) Threaten company to leave
b) anecdotal evidence how everyone else already left
c) reference how games x and y are soon to be releasedI know right :`) Kids these days, aren’t they cute little monsters ? xD
Yep! I’ll be bringing popcorn to the next thread of this nature. It’s best to be prepared.
OH GEEZ! She’s ten times as scary now!
I choked. Just her image is trying to kill me.
This is what she looks like normally.
EVIL! Doesn’t matter what way you look at it, that’s the thing behind every bad thing ever. EVIL, I tell you!
OH GEEZ! She’s ten times as scary now!
I choked. Just her image is trying to kill me.
I have bobblehead in effect now! It’s not something I can have on all day (so relogged), but I did have a fun 20 minutes or so with it. Still, I discovered something hitherto unbeknownst to me. It’s shaken up my world, my typical support for All Things Quaggan, and my preconceptions of How Things Are.
Quaggans are, in actual real reality, the cuter cousin to the xenomorph. I have proof! In pictures!
Pay special attention to the fact the hatchery is disturbingly similar. And yes, it is a hatchery. Silence, non-believers! Your views are not welcome here. :P
I did a map change to see if that was a thing to do, but no. And no other players appear to be afflicted.
Ah, well. I’m sure it’s just an oversight. I’m not supposed to be playing right now anyways. I shall amuse myself in some other fashion.
Is this NA only? Doesn’t work for me and I’m EU.
I’m EU and did a quick log in to check. No bobbleheads. Do we have to be in any particular place for this to hit?
I too am on the SFR server and at least once a day there is a Teq run which normally has little to no organization because everyone already knows what to do now
What time is that at? is it at the same time each day? PM me! In game or out would be lovely.
… although I suspect that’s one of the problems. Players should be able to turn up to any of the events of this nature with other players without having to co-ordinate the time.
Although I agree Tequatl isn’t actually that kittence you know what you’re doing, and someone’s running the show if necessary (just to ensure people are where they should be, etc.), it’s rather disheartening to run across something like an empty playing field – and if our server just does it once a day, it’s a drag on resources and disappointing if the time you can make it isn’t the time the server is doing it.
Yes, OP, they bug me to the point I know I shouldn’t even attempt them, but I do. Clearly I’m a masochist. But I have a broken brain anyway, and have to come to expect these things will happen to me. Now I view jumping puzzles as my little challenges to overcome (although there are some I cannot and will never be able to do). I look forward to the day I can be one of those mesmers who regularly ports people across a puzzle. Long time coming most likely, but I can dream.
Bumped for pantalonian justice!
Clearly what we’re asking for here is Land of the Giants. Go on, Anet, you know it makes sense.
I’m always for more pantalons.
It may not be to everyone’s tastes, but I’ve decked my mesmer out in Orr Temple/karma armour, and yes it’s a coat, even over the crotch area (fie! for shame), but definitely trousers are involved there. I’ve accentuated the trouser with probably the manliest matching boot available for scholarly types in the game (cabalist). It looks decent on the twig (pic attached for reference, with light dye to show the pants more clearly).
But for ladies? Dear me, but even the first craftable trousers appear to be missing bits at the top (they don’t on the gents), and there’s really not a whole lot else going on.
I can offer you the help of my leveling guide found in my signature. If the gameplay guide won’t work for you, at least the tips of faster leveling might bring you an advantage.
I second this. If it wasn’t for Kai’s guide, I’d have given up before level 40 for sure. I can now also confirm the Lazy build works in dungeons, should that tickle anyone’s fancy.
Whereas I think it’s cool to up the difficulty on content such as the Shatterer, there’s likely still a sizeable population who are happy with how it is. I’ve read Anet have said no to raid instanced content, but it’s the absolute best way to deal with this. People are making dedicated guilds as it is to run Tequatl and the Wurm; it’s not beyond the imagination to suggest they’d keep those guilds for raid content as well. Leave the normal everyday for those who are happy; give the higher difficulty to those who want it and hopefully everyone’s still smiling.
I’m currently sitting at the Tequatl event on SFR, as it happens. I saw one dead player, and that was it. The mighty Taco is sitting behind a wall, "attacking." I’d hate for all events of this nature to be so deserted. Here, have some screenies to enjoy, including one of the beastie playing at Cloverfield:
My ranger, Penrhyndeudraeth. He’s looking rather nice of late.
Anet! Thank you! Thank you! And thrice thank you! As a wardrobe obsessed altoholic with two highly fashionable mesmers (and some other characters that just come along for the ride), I am thoroughly elated with this news!
*applauds*
EDIT: having given it a few weeks, I’m just taking back two of those thank yous. Transmutes for pre-80s is horrible, lost runes is horrible, town clothes debacle is horrible. Having one stupid yellow crystal leftover from previously gem shop-purchased crystals is horrible. One transmute for city map completion? Not everyone leaves that completion until 80, you know. Short-changing pre-80 characters this way is not cool. Certainly not when you don’t have armour equality in effect.
A wardrobe was a nice idea, but kitten me if I don’t think I prefer the pre-patch way of doing things in a contest of the two.
(edited by Ceridwen.6703)
For light armor male, the feathered armor chest piece shows quite a bit of skin.
This is so. It’s a shame about the lower half of the outfit. And the sleeves. I suppose I can deal with the sleeves, yet I find I am wanting the same laissez-faire attitude to the ladies’ waistlines applied to their male counterparts. Also without the skirt attachment. Not that I want the guys walking around in speedos per se, because that is .. well, knees. Knees! Just a lower rise would be nice – it shows the torso area off much more, without making it look hacked in half by an over-generous lower body item. The man’s silhouette is ruined in this manner! It suits him not, sir! He is not dapper, stylish or sexy! This is an affront! It must be remedied! Argh! Grr! Ag…
I need to have a lie down before I take up this crusade again.
Regarding the gear for your character, I can’t advise as I don’t know what you’re playing.
I typically use power based stats, but it does depend on the build. Which brings us to builds and yeah, that can be confusing. Let us know what you’re playing first, though.
I am currently playing a warrior. Also, when I craft armor, should my goal be to craft armor for me or for money and get armor through other ways?
Get on over to the warrior forums and see what they have to offer.
They, like all the profession forums, have info on builds. If you don’t understand what they say, ask them. If you just want to know what the current most effective build is, or the build which works best for new players, ask them. They won’t bite. Much. You’ll get several different answers, I would think, and you should just go with whatever seems the most fun.
Until you get a more definitive build answer, it’s alright for you to slot power as your main gear stat. I am, sadly, not a warrior expert, so wouldn’t want to advise further than that.
As for crafting, as others have said, you can do it for yourself, but it’s typically cheaper to buy things direct from the Black Lion Trade Post (BLTP). As a new player, you probably don’t have all that much money to throw around, so go easy. If you’ve picked up the required ingredients for an item that you want, it’s okay to craft it for yourself. It’s also up to you if you want to salvage your unneeded crafted items – you’ll get some crafting material(s) back and some Essence of Luck, which will up your Magic Find – or you can simply sell them on the trader.
You don’t craft for money, not at first. After a while, you’ll be able to sell your crafting materials and crafted items if you want (they may actually bring more in than a crafted item, but you need to check before you made a decision either way. The economy may make a shift before you get to there). But remember, you don’t have to craft. It might behoove you to play the game, learn your profession, and simply gather the materials in a good quantity before you take it further. You decide.
And one final note on your current profession: it may not even be “your” profession. If after checking some warrior builds out and play testing, you find that it’s not gelling, consider a different profession. Check their respective forums out for builds, and try again.
Good luck with your choices!
Regarding crafting, there are a good few guides out there these days, which can start you off. Google GW2 Armorsmith Crafting Guide 0-500, and see what you come up with. Compare and contrast them, and if you have any more questions, guild mates or the forum will help. Rinse repeat for cooking (where my personal mission has always been to attempt to level it solely by crafting baked goods, like cake and bread).
As for levelling up, there’s a few different ways to do it, and all of us will gravitate to our own favoured methods after a while. I tend to focus on map completion/personal story/city exploring/crafting. I also pick up crafting materials as I see them - you’ll have seen copper nodes, various plants and trees for acquisition in the 1-15 zones. Thereafter you’re looking at iron nodes (probably what you’re seeing as a level 20 if you’ve gone out of the starter zones). Hacking at them nets you XP. Do it. Try and do any events you come across as well.
Regarding the gear for your character, I can’t advise as I don’t know what you’re playing. I typically use power based stats, but it does depend on the build. Which brings us to builds and yeah, that can be confusing. Let us know what you’re playing first, though.
Mesmer: Everything.
Ranger: Crafting, farming crafting materials, and occasionally trains and meta events
Guardian: Farming crafting materials.
Engineer: Farming crafting materials and, on very exceptional occasions when my head feels funny, allowing it to run a train or a meta.
No! No, I say! For goodness’ sake, OP, they have to fix the kittening pets we have first, before adding any more!
But my interest is piqued, nevertheless. What sort of penguin are you after? Because, you know, location, location, location: it matters.
Female: nothing different than we have already. Naked.
Males: nothing different than we have already. Covered head to toe in a long skirts/robes.Not exactly what I want more of.
What I want: more exposed skin for men, less skirts, less robes, less buttcapes, less massive shoulders, asymmetrical designs, stylish boots, etc.I would attach examples but I know better than to waste my time, anet doesnt care.
I concur with everything you say here, but those guys in the pictures above... Oh, dear me, some of those guys are delicious, despite not being semi-naked enough. I want a selection of them in a collection. Now. Just for me. And a few outfits for my mesmer from said collection whilst we’re at it - goodness knows, the poor chap has worked hard enough to have a dapper wardrobe.
I’d love to get up there and have a look. Figure out if the elementals are what they’re said to be, and also being up in a tower in the air has got to be epic.
I want to know because I’m going to have to retire in Garrenhoff. It’s just got the look of somewhere I need to live, or that I’d love to design and build.
I just wrote a post where I said something was "too hard (and then) on me". It became "too kitten on me." Gotta love the censor that can’t identify context. It’s no wonder most of my posts are edited within an inch of their lives.
:) I tend to lurk in poverty in this game. There’s always something I’m after (and I’m an altoholic, to make it worse). Getting to 500 in just leatherworking for the ascended/dynamic spinal blades nearly broke me! I’m also a little dungeon averse - I couldn’t do all the paths suggested every day - but if you can, it’s true: you’ll make money.
I make money off my salvaging, farming crafting materials and meta events (technically more salvaging). Despite being poor, I know I can generate cash from this relatively quickly, and in a way that’s not so difficult on me. Set your goal, evaluate the most efficient method of acquisition, and then just do it.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go for!
(edited by Ceridwen.6703)
I’ve bearbowed in a dungeon and lived to tell the tale, although it was a long time ago now (picked the party up off the floor a few times). Yet whilst I understood bear wasn’t appropriate in the dungeon, I’d argue the bow has its place, just not necessarily with PBS. So I changed my ways to include the sword and different, more appropriate pets. But what bugged me most in the end was the pet: if I have to have it passive at my side so it doesn’t go all kamikaze, then I’m not contributing 100%, regardless of what weapon I want to use. This is dumb. This is also not the player’s fault: it’s an inherent design flaw. We should have the ability to stow our dumb furball/scaleballs/featherballs/ickyfartoomanylegsandeyesballs and retain full DPS. That in itself would go a long way to fix ranger woes.
So I changed my main from the ranger to a mesmer, and life’s kinder now (even though clones can suffer from playing with the AI Idiot Ball too).
Still, "badness" isn’t limited to rangers. I enjoyed this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1ws3to/whats_your_professions_bearbow_equivalent/
Oh my, OP! You seem to be in possession of more gems than is absolutely necessary. At the first available opportunity, I advise sending at least half to me!
I promise I’m a good cause!
Also, Ctrl+Shift+H is your screenshot friend. ,)

I have never heard anyone mention Forgal, except to say he was sort of bland.
Insulting Sieran however, thems fightin words. Screw your washed up apple salesmen, Atleast Sieran developed as a character during your time with her.
My mesmer’ll never get over that apple salesman. Nor my ranger. sniff
My engineer still cries at nights in respect to Sieran.
I have a guardian that really, really doesn’t see why she should have to accompany Forgal anywhere, and looks forward to the moment she doesn’t have to anymore.
You have a mesmer already? If you want to keep it, consider this:
It’s what kept me playing mesmer, and now it’s my main profession. And I have been known to be quite a terrible player for various reasons until I got a hold of this guide. At least put your mesmer on hold for later. It’s a seriously fun thing to play.
Ranger is also great fun PvE, but you do have to learn your melee stuff if you want to go beyond that. If it appeals to you, make one. Try all the weapons out and go with what you like. Same with the pets (with which you are technically playing Pokémon). Don’t worry about the hate rangers get, because in PvE, it doesn’t matter. It only matters if you intend to go into dungeons, WvW or PvP. And from the sounds of it, that isn’t on the cards yet. Bear in mind there is a learning curve if you want to move beyond the basics, but you should start with those first - e.g. watch your longbow 4 if you’re playing with melee types.
What it comes down to, however, is having fun. If you’re on an EU server, look me up and I’ll run some PvE maps with you. Just simple PvE, nothing else, no stress or expectations. I wouldn’t claim to be an expert, but I may have some handy tips that’ll help you live and have fun, whatever profession you want to roll.
