Those images should carry a warning!
(seriously, any epileptics in the audience this evening, just... don’t)
I love the conversations, too. You learn so much by listening in. I actually think these conversations are one of the things this game does exceptionally well, and I’ve found myself standing around just listening on many occasions.
I’m not a new player either; I’ve been here since a beta let me log in.
Oh, dear OP, you ask a leading question in your thread title, and I’m biting down really hard not to give you a flippant answer. Must! Resist! Urge!
... I’m resisting. And no, you’re not wrong. You sound burnt out. You sound like you could use a break for sure. Find something, anything, that makes you smile and feel happy. That’s what you sound like you should be doing right now.
I’m of the opinion there’ll never be a 100% perfect MMO or MMO-style game. There’s too many players of different types to satisfy everyone. Ergo, there’s always going to be annoying elements which make sad, frustrated pandas. I’ve also found this one (GW2) for the most part works for me. Not all of it, of course, and I don’t expect it to. It’s also not my only game, nor the only thing I do with my time (just sometimes a lot of it, and sometimes not). But this is about you, OP, and only you can decide whether you want to keep doing something or not. And if it’s not doing it for you, in any consistent way, then just don’t do it.
I’ve already said this to another player this evening in the forums, but I’ll say it to you, slightly paraphrased: I hope you get the experience* you’re looking for some day, and I wish you luck with it!
*I’m not saying "game experience" this time, as it may not really be a game you’re looking for (but only you decide that!)
I know exactly what you mean, OP. I did my own post a little while ago along the lines of interaction with others, although perhaps I’m solo for other reasons.
Still, were you EU, I’d happily come along with you to do stuff you needed, and wouldn’t care how many questions you asked about anything, I’d still do my best to answer.
I hope you get the game experience you want, and I wish you luck with it!
I have a lot of shots I’m fond of, some of which are already on the forum in various places (so I don’t think I should put them up again!). Still, the two attached are probably my all-time favourite shots.
I don’t know if you’re running to the vista on what I’d consider the optimal route, as this vista (if the one I’m thinking of - http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/vista-18/3535/ ) isn’t too bad to get to.
Sometimes vistas are difficult because of not stopping up and looking for said optimal route (but I don’t know if this is why you’re encountering a problem, so forgive me if this is wrong).
If you’re on an EU server, I’ll gladly help you run up and get this one. If it’s making you too twitchy still, I’ll do a mesmer port for you.
I guess I’ll add my little hairball to the mix!
(I’m voting for a free mini for Christina and charity minis for the rest!)
Ceri- /hugs!!!! I liked you before you posted in this thread, now I just have more to like you for.
Thanks!
With all due respect, that is something I’m wondering about as well. Scarlet seems very eager to throw her alliances at her enemies, and let them die by the thousands. So why do they continue to work for her? Why don’t they betray her, or fight each other? Why don’t the Krait attack the Aetherblades or Molten Alliance? It kind of stretches the believability of the story.
Prepare for epic glibness!
… they do it because it’s in the script. And they have self-esteem issues. And maybe the krait involved know more than we do. And they mostly come at night. Mostly.
:( I’m so sorry!
__________
In (written) entertainment, sometimes things appear overlooked, or not explicitly concentrated on. If taking time out to explain it would remove the pacing, and/or get in the way of the story, then it should be nipped in the bud swiftly. And sometimes, way down the line, those things you thought were just pointless filler, ridiculous and nonsensical, or those things you thought never got tied up satisfactorily, actually will come back to bite you in the backside. There can still be payoff!
In GW2, we have a few angles of the story at any time: chiefly whatever we make of it (or what we imagine our own characters make of it), and what the NPCs make of it. Occasionally our antagonist(s) may give us something, but it won’t be the whole story of them. That’s for the pre-death monologue* at the very least, right? ( )
Anyway, the NPCs have told us what they know. Perhaps that’s all they’ll ever know. It’s not like they’d be getting hold of a krait and asking it nicely (unless they have already and I missed it, for shame). Not that I think we’d ever really find anything deeper than what’s been given. I also think lore changes aren’t the end of the world. People can be very wrong about what they thought was right at the time. When it feels like a plot device, well…
…A lot of things may well be crafted as they are from a gameplay standpoint. Time constraints and things such as whatever character models are available for modification are examples of this. Why the constraints are there is a different thread somewhere else.
Also, the writers may want the pertinent details close to their chests for future use.
I’m on the fence for this right at the moment, truth be told. Lore is still important to me (I already mentioned earlier I use it as a foundation for my imagination within the world), but I’m reserving total judgement for the end times. Fear my apocalyptic wrath! (or apoplectic is really more like it if my twigs have to be dragon minions.)
Er... maybe about 1000NOK. Maybe more, maybe less. Technically more than I should, regardless.
I may even do a conversion on that for the poll.
Oh, now I have to..
SQUEEEEE! (it’d be longer than that, but I’m trying to remain somewhat dignified. Somewhat.)
I knew there was a reason one of my characters is walking for quaggan homelessness awareness .
Homes for Quaggans! will continue over the weekend, at super random times and sometimes with a *cough*real live*cough* quaggan! (but still mostly with the hapless pretty twig boy Geirionydd, pictured above). Followers are welcome to come along for the walk, and bring kites, balloons, or other fun paraphernalia, all in the name of Homes of Quaggans! Together, we can raise awareness!
Be amazed at the escapade on Seafarer’s Rest throughout the weekend, or put in a request for a Homes for Quaggans! visit to your server! (EU only, sadly. There is currently no known US branch of Homes for Quaggans! )
I doubt Christina wants special treatment. I’m willing to bet that she’d prefer to be treated equally like everyone else.
This. People with a disability, a genetic condition, or even people that are temporarily in a wheelchair because of an accident, usually just want one thing: to be treated normally, like everyone else.
I feel you, you read something that moved you, and you want to _do_ something. Well, you can. Next time when you’re in a crowded subway, train or tram, take your eyes off your phone and check if others need your seat more than you do. That’s a huge leap forward in thinking. And actually _seeing_ the world around you.
I like fadeaway’s proposal to introduce a mini Taimi, the proceeds of which are used for MS research. That’s entirely at the discretion of Anet though.
Yes. My epilepsy ranks as an unseen disability, but I did not enjoy how I was treated after throwing it down in IT class when I was a teenager (I was never allowed on a computer in school again). I did not enjoy it when, with resulting injuries still apparent on my face, my friends and acquaintances seemed to melt into the background for an entire week until I looked "normal" again. I got myself into computer gaming, despite all the advice to the contrary, but that’s my positive. For me, it’s definitely true that the last thing I want is to be marked as so* different as to be totally alien (a degree of different is okay); but no matter how big the difference is, the desire to be accepted is overriding. Most people, with or without disabilities, want that, and for some it comes easier (and for some, never at all). Still the want is universal, and by using imagination and empathy, it’s not hard to go that little bit further in everyday life to accept others for who they are (not what). Like Buttercup says, it’s that seeing of the world around you.
My grandmother has been using a wheelchair for a long time now, but when she first started, it was astonishing how people suddenly started talking over her, asking whichever family member was helping her whether she (my grandmother) wanted a cup of tea or not. Such people usually got told to ask my grandmother directly. A wheelchair is not something which writes someone out of existence. Nor is any disability.
And to the point of the mini. I like the idea of a mini Taimi, because she’s cool, full stop ( regardless of if she keeps making me think Cait Sith). I don’t need to donate to charity by way of purchasing said mini - I kinda think we should do that anyway, without a mini being involved simply because it’s the right thing to do - but it doesn’t hurt if a percentage of proceeds goes directly to an appropriate charity - or how about a day or weekend where any gem purchase outright has a percentage donated (but there should still be a mini Taimi!)?
*I have not said kitten here. I said as and then so.
(edited by Ceridwen.6703)
Mm. I’ve done it repeatedly.
Homes for Quaggans!
At various points throughout today (and maybe the rest of the week), I’ll be walking - just walking - across Gendarran Fields between Vigil Keep and the Cornucopian Fields waypoint, purely to raise quaggan homelessness awareness. I realise others have lost their homes, but I’m concentrating on the quaggans for now.
I did a test walk last night, and around Vigil Keep, one asura with an interesting tonic quaggan, without words, knew my intention and walked with me for a short while. Another quaggan and even a norn came too, albeit rather too briefly. At the Cornucopian Fields, an asura and another norn paced with me a little (and there was a moment or two of dancing!), again without words understanding the need to get the message across.
Now, I ask quaggans and any others to walk with me, should you see me (image below for visual reference). We need not exchange words, however shouts such as "Homes for Quaggans!" and "End Quaggan Home Dispersal Now!" are to be encouraged (although not quite in the same way we’ve been encouraging Lion’s Arch citizens to escape their beleaguered city. That’s just... well. Hm).
Together, we can raise awareness and find a new home for all homeless quaggans (hopefully a permanent one this time)!
(primarily Seafarer’s Rest, may travel to other servers)

I agree with Healix - get as much as you can now, however, since we’re supposed to be taking back LA (or at least trying to) in our next patch, we may have another couple of weeks to acquire needed items, in addition to whatever else is added.
I find the weird noises your characters’ make at citizens much less strange than the animation.
You get an animation for blowing on a warhorn, but it happens no matter what weapon you have equipped. So my Elementalist is sitting here blowing through his dagger like a nutcase.
Like this..
Yeah.. creepy indeed!
*edit-Ceri- Your daughter sounds too cute! I love The Dreamer as well, and if my any of characters could use it, I’d wield the heck out of it, too!
… That picture disturbs me! Definitely we needed a different look as well as sound for our “encouragement”.
(yeah, she’s pretty epic. sickening proud parent moment)
I’d love to be able to jump as a quaggan.
Mind, I’m actually thinking of abandoning that dream to set up a Quaggan Tonic Shop. I’ll choose to set up somewhere with a lucrative air, and await the coppers rolling in. Maybe I’ll even try for a Quaggan Day or festival license, set up a marquee with cake and tea and a pool inside. Plus there’ll be a collection tin for all disaffected homeless quaggans, constantly forced to go to new places because dragons. Please donate generously!
It’s important to me. I couldn’t play something I couldn’t use my imagination on, and lore gives me a foundation to run with. I read stuff outside of the game, inside of it, and it makes the whole thing come alive for me. I don’t keep it as close to my heart as others might, however, so if it goes belly-up in some cases, I can live with it. And then proceed to have fun with it at the expense of.. someone or something, somewhere or other.
Story... well, I’m going glass half-full on it. It doesn’t always do it for me (seriously, my engi refuses to continue with anything until she receives PTSD counselling, and my ranger and mesmer are just hoping for cake after Arah, if I ever get my nerve together to run the story instance again).

Yeah, but I’m brain impaired (photosensitive epileptic), so I expect it and shouldn’t be used as a basis for comparison. I could probably do with an eye sight test soon too. Still, when it bugs other people, it has me thinking maybe there’s something up with it.
Any of you guys watched Cloverfield or similar and found you just couldn’t? Or have problems with colours out of the game, but still on the monitor (or even TV, or similar screens)? Or has it only just occurred in this update?
EDIT! I’m saying "yeah" in my first para in a direct response to the OP’s question. Edited to say this because it looked rather odd.
Dag dag! I’ll have you all know Sims speak Simlish. It’s kind of adorable once you get used to it.
lol, Ceri! My daughter still loves the Sims, my son teases her mercilessly over this. She was so sad when TSO shut down.
I wish she’d play GW2 with the rest of us, but this girl plays some other weird game, and believe it or not..still dabbles in Ultima
Heehee, it’s quite alright to play Sims, really it is. There’s some real innovators in the custom content design area, and the Apocalypse challenge (Sims 2/3) is not for the faint-hearted! I spend my time just building for it these days, however. It’s a personal fallout from when I used to mod Neverwinter Nights years ago.
My daughter does both Sims and Guild Wars 2 (sort of…), but is currently really into Minecraft, modded with My Little Ponies! The only way to make her even happier would be to combine the lot (e.g. by day, save LA citizens from vengeful vegetation, by night, build houses/families whilst defending from zombies! – all whilst using The Dreamer as a multi-purpose weapon).
Yes! I love reading all this stuff, especially if I missed it in game. Thanks for posting the dialogue!
Our shouts of encouragement are like how The Sims speak. Gibberish.
haha! My daughter played The Sims Online and would stand there and make pizza. I’d hear madness in her room, and walk in, asking her what the mad chatter was coming out of the speakers.. oomblaa essta ramano! She’d inform me it was Sim speak for pizza orders, as if I should be fluent in that stuff. Seems she was !
Madness, lol! I still have dreams sometimes where I hears Sims babbling in the background…
This encouragement stuff.. disturbing.. thoughts in this here thread!
Dag dag! I’ll have you all know Sims speak Simlish. It’s kind of adorable once you get used to it.
I guess I’m going to have to try rescuing citizens on something other than my two Asura. They just go, “HEYYYYY! YA! YA!!!”
I think there’s a song in that, somewhere.
Kitten royalty fees. :/
There was a karma merchant in the Undermarket in LA pre-blitz who "sold" free portal stones to the Hall of Monuments, even if you didn’t link an account from the original Guild Wars.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments_Portal_Stone
That link says she’s been duly relocated.
Kazmeers been spending too much time with Braham as well. She says Kaz-ham (or something like that) in LA (I think only after the defeat wave/% events of the Toxic Alliance right there in the corner of the path).
I haven’t heard her say anything along those lines, but if she did, I’d imagine it’d be “alakazam”, or a variation on it.
What are you spending Found Belongings on?

I have my Gift of Blades, and have since been acquiring Tomes of Knowledge.
I’m here to help! By no means a cleric-y type, still I’ll res anyone if the situation allows it. I don’t expect to be ressed myself, and default to using my fairweather friend (hello, Deception!) to attempt to place myself out of the way a little. On death, I’ll typically respawn.
Essentially, I don’t want people wasting their time on me, but I’ll spend mine for them (if viable to the situation).
I’m helping out! It’s fun! As penance for thinking something bad about <insert random LA citizen here> the other week, I’m getting as many citizens out as I can, whilst aiding other players in a pinch and farming blade shards. I did have a spot of farming the heirlooms, but went all CBA and spent them all on small stuffs. Having an endless quaggan tonic was more of a victory than a halo or horns deal. I am so win.

I got a pass as a drop, used it, and figured that content was Not For Me™.
If anyone wants me, I’ll be in my usual spot: the Grove (or Rata Sum if the winds are in the east and the mist is blowing in).
Oh, yeah: Mystic Forge be kittened! (except when I want to use it, natch.)
(edited by Ceridwen.6703)
I’d love to see a screen, Ceri!
As requested! A front and back shot.
I thought I was coming here to make a terrible joke about her having her consciousness shoved into a potato (PotatLET), but I now see the error of my ways.
I agree! Let’s get up there and kick her backside all the way down! And then fail again!
I don’t have the ascended version, but managed to acquire the exotic. I’m working on the ascended. It’ll take me forever, since I have to level my leatherworking to 500 (having never felt like getting anything to 500 previously), and I’m totally skint. Bit of a grind, but I’ve got a few of the ingredients required, at least. I shall get there!
In the meantime, I still like my non-glowy version. It actually complements my mesmer’s look, albeit in a rather OTT fashion. It reminds me of the time beetle attached to Donna Noble’s back in Turn Left (Dr. Who episode), just quite a bit bigger and a lot more metallic. Love it!
I got mine last night in an overflow, too, and I’m done with achievements. I head back in to help out others (PC or NPC) and get some shards in the process. I’ve not seen anything but overflows, however, and I suspect a lot of others are in a similar boat. Overflow doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all bad, but varying rates of success.

Mesmer thinks he’s gone on holiday by mistake.
In Age of Conan, all the "personal story" quests were (and may well still be) solo only. Even the epic last dungeon, where you bring a god down, is a solo venture. I recall having the opposite argument - please, I just want to take one other person in with me! Just one!
I absolutely would love having Arah SM soloable. I actually think all dungeon story instances should have a solo variant. I mean, any time I’ve done story dungeons, I never see any story as there’s always rushing ahead. At least in a solo instance, I’m not held up, or holding up, anyone else, and the story content can then be fully enjoyed.
Kalarchis, however did you get a picture of the Mystic Forge with no one at it? I can tell it’s from a vista, but those still show people. Is your server that low on folks?
I have so many screenies of LA from the last almost 2 years that it will be hard to narrow them down. Between holiday events, role play sessions, dance offs, compulsive screenshotting of vistas … I think I may wait to see how it’s changed and get comparison shots of the same places after.
I got some of the MF from the vista, also showing no one actually standing next to it. Maybe the vista is meant to be like that, so the MF can actually be seen properly (wouldn’t be a good vista if it had half the server climbing the forge). Note the Box o’ Fun in the bottom left corner of my shot, and how NPC Miyani is not where she typically stands.
I have another one, from the BLTC post:
I don’t spend lots of time in LA as a rule, but when I am there, it’s for fun reasons. I took a few screens over the last Wintersday holiday, whilst having some of the aforementioned fun.
I’m going on out on a (tree!) limb here, and whilst I agree with sylvari not being minions, my conclusion isn’t reached through lore (although Konig says absolutely everything that needs to be said lore-wise to debunk the minion theory).
I come to the conclusion whilst thinking of how RL players would react to a player race becoming even more “special”. A lot of us are playing sylvari, but a lot more (random internet calculation) aren’t. Is it worth putting an entire group up in this way? I think it would actually end up causing more trouble and friction than necessary.
Inside the game itself, there’d be an awful lot of work needed to adjust in-game reactions to sylvari everywhere. I’m not convinced the other races would be quite so comfortable with working with sylvari if it turned out they were dragon minions, even if a lot of good work has previously been put in. I’d like to put more words to this than this (
), but I’ve not had enough sleep or cups of tea to be fully functional yet.
Actually no because they can still be a plant equivalent of risen with PT being taco/shatterer/TGD like. But a very important thing noted, how are the sylvari actually special, Asura are a race of underground dwellers with persona intellect in fields of math, physics and natural sciences far greater than anyone but maybe forgotten and mursaat, 2 races by now probably as rare that you could count the living individuals with your fingers; norn, the native tyrian (as in planets) apex predator which can adapt their body to insane circumstances and call upon animals, both in spirit and body; charr being the planets biggest and thus far most successful military force with pure tech (not magitech) engineering and without any special outside force influencing their primary growths and last but sure as hell not least, humans the aliens which have cosmos shaping forces on their side that they can partially invoke upon and which created most of the existing professions and magic manipulation (in the actual guild wars) and are the basis of 5 (8 if you count canthan ones) massive organizations which guided the current shaping of tyria… also the race whos ancient hero delayed a elder dragon, stopped a armada of undead, plague undead things, titans, charr, demons and half demon monster things and delayed the spread of jorlags (and no thats a joke on the beta claw of jormag event, same as taco for tequatl) influence by killing his first new gen champion and oh right, saved tyria from being turned into a pile of death and ecto by releasing the reapers and re-sealing Dhuum.
… not sure we’re on the same page here. What part of my post are you specifically replying to, so I can be sure and engage appropriately?
I don’t think that’s necessarily entirely true. As it stands, all four other races have a history to speak of, and that history has plenty to be expanded upon. The sylvari actually have the least potential history since they’re so new. Besides that, would people really get upset if one race had such an importance? I mean their stories ingame wouldn’t necessarily change, right?
I agree it’s not necessarily true. It’s a complete unknown given there’s a variety of players out there. I just have a feeling, which is really nothing to base anything on, which is why I was out on a (tree!) limb. There’s a lot of unhappiness about sylvari in the first place (whether warranted or not), and I think adding something as earth-shattering as that on top is asking for trouble. I am concerned for the well-being of the player base! It doesn’t particularly matter what history the other races have as many players will never see it/play it/read about it (well, it matters to me, and to you, and to lots of us here, but … well, you know). Allow me to worry over such horrific possibilities. I’m good at it!
Oor they could write it as it’s a fact only you and certain individuals know, and it’s imperative you never let the world know so as not to sow the seeds of doubt in the rest of the races(plenty of reasoning for them to choose this cause of action).
Mm, hadn’t thought of the latter early on this morning (little sleep and lack of tea, you see. A curse!). It would sort of work, but I don’t think you could keep something as monumental as that secret. Okay, our player characters could keep shtum, as they’re written as impossibly squeaky clean, but they’re not working alone in this. Someone else could easily let it slip. It’s potentially dangerous, whichever way you look at it. I’d actually be interested to see how that could be implemented, even if I don’t believe in the reason for its implementation.
I’m going on out on a (tree!) limb here, and whilst I agree with sylvari not being minions, my conclusion isn’t reached through lore (although Konig says absolutely everything that needs to be said lore-wise to debunk the minion theory).

I’d just like a few minor adjustments to the cultural light armor - with one of them using pants and not a skirt. Just one! That’s all! Or at an least optional arrangement that looked like pants. Plant pants. And then I’d happily embrace full cultural armour on my mesmer (ranger and warrior already have it).
I actually posted a daft comment in the Tequatl thread, which I would throw up as theory if anyone wants a bit of fun.
I don’t know about sylvari being dragon minions; I think Scarlet appears to be arguing between personalities - that is, she has some kind of dissociative identity disorder, but the second personality has since asserted itself into dominance. She should be medicated and receive psychological assistance pronto.
However, that’s not quite as epic as dragons and magic, so I’m going with my Tequatl theory for now.
As for the why? She’s a fruit loop, it could just be fun and she really does think it’s her playground. She’s said similar before.
But that’s too mundane. So... All the stuff you came up with is fine by me. Except sylvari as dragon minions. If that happens, my lads are going tosulk and come over all emo about it.
I’ve been in and completed the LW stuff I needed to do... and I really expected there to be more things I had to do for that! There again, this is a WvW update. From what I gather, the WvW players have been asking for some love for a while, so I’d be asking if they’re happy with it.
As a mostly PvE person, I had no real trouble with the new map, except the snowstorms and heights disturb me greatly - the snow made it hard for me to orient myself plus the added worry of being up goodness knows how high! Oof. That’s way harder for me than any opponent player!
It’s still a good looking place, with some interesting angles and I like the change in enemies/allies for the keeps and and capture objectives.
In terms of gameplay, there was a very small and loose zerg running this morning, and we did have a few skirmishes. I had a grin with a couple of enemies in another attempt where I Learn How To Play ( ). I died ignobly a few times (did laugh), and had a quick, breezy fun session. I have no idea if the sides were balanced fairly or not, and sometimes numbers don’t matter anyway, so I can’t really comment on how that was.
I think the number of waypoints was fine and in concurrence with the standard WvW maps. Zerging may still be effective, but I suspect there’s a lot of people who can solo/small group down to the golem parts and back again (if that’s all you’re after).
It could happen!
Maybe we’ll be having Tequila shots on the ruins of LA! Using electro-magnetic sonic-y drills to poke into Tequila’s piping (ley lines), Scarlet will be the Dragonborn, aka Saladborn, and will utilise the dragon for riding into LA as the ultimate airborne combat vehicle! Biotech, magitech, and.. er.. Recycled Living Tech (now with added Toxin!) FTW!
