This topic is unfortunate. Truly. Imo, it has run it’s course because it fails to get anywhere. ._.
All that has happened is constant bickering to continually (and I suspect intentionally in some regards) to be effectively bumped.
If we just go by ticket cost (an already time gate material), and pretend everyone caps each week at 175 (which they don,‘t lol). It will take 2 months to get a single set of T1 Skirmish Armor. Then another 4 months to get a single set of T2 Skirmish Armor (the one OP wants). So, half a year to get it. That’s ignoring the 2000 rank requirement. IS THAT REASONABLE TO EVERYONE? Idk, seems fine to me assuming the above happens (which it might not to newer players).
Let me clarify. WvW wants/needs new people. The real problem is this:
How do we make WvW feel like it’s not a grind? Well, gee, we’d have to pay attention to game play at that point!
Lowering rank requirements is a band aid solution, but I don’t care at this point. It will still take half a year or more for new players to even get if the requirement is removed. THAT IS ONLY IF TICKET ACQUISITION ISN’T CHANGED (E.g. weekly timegates, pips, and pip bonuses).
If I had to choose a band-aid solution. I’d propose doubling PIP’s so it doesn’t take a part time job to cap tickets each week (similar to raids for Magnetite shards…). This reduces the feeling of “the grind.” Still will take half a year to accumulate tickets, so the next barrier is the “rank requirement.” Just drop it, again, still takes half a year or more regardless due to the ticket time gate I keep repeating here.
MASSIVE CAVEAT IS MASSIVE If it was legendary armor then keep it at 2000 as people somewhat agree on that.
Bitter blabbing:
Overall the system is a needless mess in regards to PIPs. It still functions as the reward track...that they could have just introduced tickets to with the same weekly cap. So great...we have two reward tracks on top of each other for even more UI clutter? Super. So a lot of time was wasted on rewards when it could have been spent on game play changes? Or am I being too harsh? Idk. Anal retention is a real thing.Fun fact you don’t need to spend any tickets what so ever to get T1 you get those for free……. so all that tickets are needed for are T2 and T3.
And I believe the T3 should stay at 2k and I only have 336 WvW rank, I ain’t even mad
Thanks bebe, it was a clerical error. Everything I was discussing referred to T2 and T3.

It’s indeed weird. Usually, it’s 2-handed > 1-handed > off-hand only.
Good luck having an answer on this.
Indeed. I was hoping to nip this issue in the butt before it becomes a more noticeable problem after everyone has blown their tickets on the backpack.
You mean “nip it in the bud”? ( I always thought of it like cutting off a flower bud, before it has chance to bloom).
Nipping something in the butt has a VERY different meaning ;-)
LOL, that’s true. However I ain’t changing nothin’.

Forgot to mention that the exotic versions in the skirmish vendor are also all the same price with respect to tickets. Which is completely irrelevant if you take the “Hero Weapon Reward Track” that unlocks both the exotic, and ascended skirmish weapons. You may as well just go for the ascended at that point to save on tickets…
Why is this?
Hero weapon =/= Mistforged hero weapon
I am aware the track weapon’s skin lacks the particles and is different from the skirmish vendor’s.
I am annoyed about the ticket prices. I suggested it is more efficient to do the track, then go straight for the ascended version. Which makes the exotic skirmish weapons sort of pointless. I also hope I got across that 1handed shouldn’t have the same ticket price of 2handed weapons.

I am triggered by inconsistency. Apparently. Unfortunately this is only a question that ANET could possibly remedy. Why are the skirmish weapons all the same ticket price?
It is evident in other places (within WvW even) that single handed weapons usually have a reduced token price. I made a picture to illustrate this further. I am okay with memories of battle as they are for a proper gold sink mechanic. Tickets are timegated, so I’m not okay with this implementation, and thus the triggered question.

And personally, I think I’ll be doing the t2 for quite a while since it actually seems like a good way to get ascended armor. Sorta. Better than crafting.
And once you unlock T2, then the T3 stuff doesn’t require the marks (the crafting aspect). Which is odd, but whatever. All assuming after getting the T2 stuff you will be rank 2000ish.

Idk why people feel stats add “build diversity” when the biggest contributors are your weapons and utilities. Then some traits, runes, and sigils. Full marauder won’t play very different from full zerk, or even a mixture of the two. Then I again I came from GW1. So, eh!
I am, however, against Spvp amulets copy pasta into WvW. Easier to balance maybe (hah, good joke I know!), but I’d be in favor of per-slot choice. In other words the way legendary items behave…
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
Why do you want T3 armor?
just aesthetics, it looks cool. I almost wouldn’t mind getting rank 2k to get it, if getting such a high rank was skill based in some way. it just feels like pure grind.
What is considered “skill based” in this game when referring to things outside of WvW?
For pve I would say partially raids although they become predictable after awhile. I would also consider jumping puzzles skill based If you only had so much time to complete them and they possibly changed shape in real time.
I’d consider spvp to be skill based in that individual skill shines through especially when someone 1v3s a point. I would consider high level team coordination skill like when they did esl tournaments.
In wvw I would consider some zerg vs zerg fights skill based especially when a much smaller zerg beats a larger one.
I would say then try to engage in whatever you consider skill based in WvW, but be aware that this non-subscription game is a grind. Even if it takes “skill.” And that’s okay if you hate subscriptions. ANET won’t be able to change that anytime soon unfortunately.
Otherwise you can ask ANET to shill out the skins on the gem store (and I’d be okay with that if it’s made clear it can be earned in WvW with effort). It’s a company. It needs money to run, and upkeep this game after all.
Bluntly, I am okay with the capped tickets. I am okay with 2000 rank requirements. I am not okay with it taking 20+ hours to cap the tickets (even with my current 4000 ish rank). Unless of course you abuse the system to afk repair walls on an “outnumbered” map. Which isn’t skillful obviously.
In comparison, for raids it takes 3ish hours to cap Magnetite Shards or w.e. they’re called. This inconsistency triggers me more than all the pointless posturing in the pages of this thread.
Toodles.

Take away account wide gold find, and magic find by an extension of that logic. It discriminates against new players. Nodes in home instances? Also a no no. Unfair.
100% this
Heaven forbid you deserve any kind of reward for spending your time achieving high ranks in WvW.
The irony is that it still takes 20 hours to max out tickets for the week at high ranks. Meanwhile in pve it takes 3 hours to max Magnetite Shards or w.e. in raids.

It’s incorrect to believe that pumping more heals is going to be better for a comp’s ‘sustain.’ As you said, with the 15s cooldown, druid is more burst heals.
Resistance, and/or auras(protection traited too) provided by your counter examples help the party more than the pure heals from a druid. Even a mesmer’s veil reduces potential damage by a lot. Some still use mesmer to heal/boon share too…

Works wonders in Eotm, and bad pug blobs (e.g. like all the returning/pve players lol). Mixed results against more capable enemies.
I’m unsure if people have played the same build as I did but I did this vs FSP which is basically old stacked GvG players and never “bad pug” blobs and I’m destroying melee/backline with this
Mmm this is against Mag who has all the old stacked GvG players, and never “bad pug” blobs for NA servers. Mixed results still hold. The sustain condi meta guilds aren’t affected much by this build. The guilds that still have glassy back liners fall victim, yes.
So tell me this, you guys run zerk warriors? Staff thief pumps out more damage currently. And is even less vulnerable to condi cus of the evade spam so you won’t die
Only reasoning to bring a warrior is for Banners at this point. Their potential damage (even with zerk) is irrelevant to the previously mentioned sustain condi meta because they’d be a liability.
As for Maguuma, there are warriors randomly about yes. The only half-way useful one is from GS with respect to damage output (Aka Diviniya or w.e.).

Sorta okay with time gate content for games that don’t require a subscription (sorta is emphasized). It’s just when it’s inconsistent or very unreasonable (J-RPGMMOS YO). It takes about 3 hours to max out Magnetite Shards if reasonable effort is put forth and you’re above average in that context. It takes about 15-20 hours to max out tickets (granted my personal rank is like 4000 ish). This is inconsistent. That triggers me bro.
D:
6 of those 15-20 hours are actually spent with the guild ‘raid time’ in WvW.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
Mmm, achievements do technically contribute in a small manner to the normal achievement system that is in place across the entire game.
It is, however, disappointing that my 3291 WvW ranks that didn’t get spent on ‘Wvw Masteries’ were not retroactively rewarded in some small way. The changing title name is fairly meaningless to me. So I can understand the OP’s feeling on this matter considering there has been a lot of numerical gains with little in the ways of…awards.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
Are you kidding me Anet? Is this how players should be treated? No ‘Consume All’ function for Badges of Honor you get from rewards. RIP mouse for Christ sakes…

Badges, and Proof acquisition from PIP chests should have “Consume All” or be automatically placed into the wallet to avoid spam clicking (carpal tunnel).
P.S. PIP chest refers to “Skirmish Chests”
Many other things should have a “Consume All” option too, such as Tomes of Knowledge for those who saved them up for their dashed hopes of them doing something useful other than a spirit shard.
Not necessarily. Tomes serve two functions, one to actually level up to 80, and spirit shards. People with alts might not want to consume all. Something more quantity related may better.

Getting back to the OP. Nope. Since no one seems to have tried to answer him/her.
This topic keeps popping up but I don’t believe any devs have chimed in.
Impo… I don’t think it’s appropriate for the large scale game mode as there are MANY more builds available in WvW as opposed to PvP thus requiring a multitude of stat combinations and let’s face it – the ability to build your own setup to your liking is fun; freedom of choice.
That’s the way it should remain – freedom of choice.
Idk, the huge grind wall just to test builds out don’t contribute to “freedom of choice.” Then you realize they don’t work. Super.
I’m not sure – in terms of newcomers absolutely. Vet players may have left over asc gear which is easy to stat-swap?
Go make celestial for some characters. Even still, we should consider the new comers given the wave that is about to be incoming for rewards.
Why when I can play other stat combos that better suit my playstyle/fill the damage role I need? Not every class benefits from cele stats, not that I remember anyway. Sure sounds like a huge grind to acquire cele gear having charged quartz locked behind a daily time gate I think that’s a PvE thing though for quartz. Even then, build testing is accessible via PvP with stat combos.
I think with the announcement newcomers would be aware and prepare themselves in case they need a set of WvW gear, PvE players have it easy with gear acquisition. Unless you’ve worked at it for a while in WvW any newcomer might find it a bit of a barrier to obtain the BoH currency to acquire the extotic WvW gear and I’m talking the extremes here… fresh off the boat level 80 new to WvW/the game with no proper gear is going to find it tough to make gold for gear. That’s life. Find a way to make gold and get your gear/preferred stat choice because as it currently stands – you have the freedom to choose.
Anyway, don’t want to derail this thread any further.
Mmm, point was that the accessibility to composition (builds) in WvW is stifled by grind. This is a barrier to entry to new players that has grown over time. So I can’t agree it’s “freedom to choose.” It’s probably more accurate to say, “has no limits” which is probably what I believe you meant. That’s why I mentioned celestial for it’s components are locked behind a time gate (that I think takes a month), making it less accessible but still allowed in WvW (unlike Spvp). Regardless, believe what you want on the matter it is irrelevant to OP now.

Makes no sense for me. Lets say a high and low ranked player duo roam doing the exact same things. Why should one of them earn more/less pip than the other?
Would like to see a performance based(capped objectives, defended objectives, kills, deaths, etc.), calculated number for each player instead of this. Based on this number players could earn more or less pips per tick.
Wait, what if I…

Indeed a temporary boon, and irony is that players voted for this…
I am also holding my opinion for the actual implementation before stating any further complaints/praise about the rewards system.
Well… players weren’t exactly given a major choice on priority lol skirmish rewards or one up one down. Pick one, or none, we working on it anyways!
I picked One Up One Down last I remember, since it was the only option that actually affected my game play (face new players and avoid T1 servers random rolling into T3).
Irony is they’re doing something with One Up One Down. This still doesn’t remove the point that they decided not to tackle the difficult issues in regards to game play back then. Having reasonable balance for those newcomers could keep them playing after they got their new rewards.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
As far as development goes. I suspect it’s management that holds up development more than the actual productive effort. Like a long chain of approval slows things down in that respect. Speculation is useless, but it did take a long time in my opinion.
nightcapping is hardly a major issue anymore every timezone is worth the same now, no one timezone can open a 50k over a coarse of a night
Balance and population and prob still the biggest issues
In terms of points I don’t think people care about nightcapping with the current system. It’s still an issue with respect to your “population” problem since it means enemy structures get fully upgraded and start bleeding into other time-zones as an advantage.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
Can you say what your point is using 1 sentence please?
I think it’s like: “WvW is going to get an influx of new players, so veterans please play nice and that will increase the chance of new players staying.”
Problem is, I think the game play (like balance…) will scare away those players that came to WvW for the new rewards. So, they’ll get their swag and ditch regardless.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
No, the damage is fine. There is more to defending than using a cannon (as people have stated like Siege disables). “Secured” T1 or whatever ANET wishes to call it is designed in this manner. It gives some protection. Not complete. There will be more to defending the objective in this vulnerable state than a single cannon. That is why your enemies are hitting a T1 objective…before it can upgrade to T2→T3.
The only real issue with Oil and Cannon is that you can’t stay on the ones positioned by gates. It should pulse a stack of stab at best, but not a damage increase.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
I am sure the hordes who have left WvW will come flooding back with this change, oh wait, the lag is still is worse than ever, the meta is still worse than ever, the combat still more tedious than ever, the population balance is still non-existent, match-ups are still competitively a completely worthless joke, class balance is still non-existent, the guild arenas are still too small/uses PvE rules, the game mode still so poorly designed that PvDoor and avoiding fights in a mass scale PvP mode is the thing for PPT, etc, so maybe not…
Really it is just the PvP rewards all over again, rather than addressing the actual issues, all it will largely achieve is a temporary boost in numbers from “players” after shiny things not really interested in the game mode, that will end once those shiny things have been acquired.
Just another Anet band-aid.
Indeed a temporary boon, and irony is that players voted for this…

Um, sure it would be lovely to place it in PvE places for theme and such but…look at in pure game play.
Why would you need a specific tower for “early warning” in the current game mode? People can literally just type in map/team chat. Especially consider that it requires someone to be in the signal tower anyway…again just say it in map chat if you’re in the area.
From a technical perspective, I do believe there are some caps on rendering distances so it could only extend vision so far anyhow. Not to mention none of the current maps are designed for the inclusion of another objective which would require even more work. All for a mechanic that is easily rectified with map/team chat? Not worth it in my opinion.
I was thinking of removing team chat and giving that option only to the scout in the tower.
I saw. However it was under “if yes,” and I am against it regardless.
Even still that isn’t really something ANET will do considering they just handed out team chat to the masses. How bad will it be if they suddenly remove not only team chat but map chat included? Even still it’d be a mute point due to voice over ips like community discord. I suppose ANET could ban people for 3rd party programs after clumping VOIPs into the definition. Again, not something they’d consider.

Because it’s easier to change skills than change AI/encounters that would require more build “variety.”
That isn’t to say there still aren’t about 50% useless skills out there… spirit weapons, racial skills, a bunch of signets still, and even falling traits.
If we’re just speaking in terms of PvE balance that is.
The falling traits aren’t useless, they’re great for doing exactly what they’re intended to do (allow you to survive higher falls) and I for one used to use them all the time. It’s just that gliding kind of ate their lunch on the whole “protect you from falling” thing, and a lot of them are in inconvenient trait lines anyway.
No offense in intended but you basically proved why someone might consider on fall traits “useless.” I’m not saying they don’t work to reduce falling damage…but considering how black and white falling can be in WvW their use is limited. You either die to the height (DBL) or the map is safely flat (The other maps). Not to mention it’s harder to make use of whatever impact ability it produces. The best one is warriors’ imo, since they can at least spam it on gate rams to some success.
For purely PvE well, they’re probably even more useless just as you said!
• Gliding invalidated their necessity in PvE (which is why I noted “speaking in terms of PvE”)
• The sacrifice for the trait is too much for players to consider over other trait lines for the already super niche uses.
Yay accretion balancing? Or just make the trait on landing (without needing falling damage). That’d be the easy fix since the current balance likes “easy” fixes.
Trinity Of Our EU Lords [Kazo] Zudo Jason Betta
Idc about the political analogy, but because you asked what I thought WvW was…it’s a mess. It evidently tries to be something for everybody, but gives up being everything to somebody. Which no doubt leads to division among the community.
Which is why I really would love to hear ANet’s actual vision/goal/purpose for WvW, since it is meaningless to argue if WvW should be casual or competitive, unless we know what ANet wants with the mode (or wanted).
There. It’s under competitive so…yeah.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/competitive-play/
That’s their little mission statement , and “World vs. World—it’s PvP combat on an epic scale!” surmises it all.
Sadly the focus hasn’t necessarily veered towards “epic scale” with the servers trembling beneath the reality that “massive” battles are not stable.
