Just go the free market approach and let the queue times deter people from transferring. Less management too. Better yet, let people know what the queues were on reset last week so people can get a preview before attempting to stack an already beefy server…

Despite all the hate BG gets. It is filled with guilds that were there for more than 6months (REV, KNT, GoF, FOO, AHMA, SG, SW, XVX). So I don’t don’t buy the transfer wars argument in 2017. Does that mean guilds haven’t transferred? Nope, [RISE] did. But NA guilds barely impact the coverage war that shifts the matches wildly. The dust settled months ago, and I suspect the coverage is mostly because people stopped moving ever since it became full for fear they’d be locked out….which is ironic given the intended purpose of FULL status.

Do please make so after being stunned you can’t be stunned for 1 second.

Guild Wars 1 had knockdowns as the “hard” CC which allowed a ~1/2 second safe period after the effect expired. So spamming the knockdowns on an already knockdown foe didn’t stack nor reset the effect. You actually had to think a little harder and chain another in order to minimize that “safe” period.

Duels in WvW are hardly uncommon, you see them everywhere and the guys usually harass/give incredible attitude to you if you happen to slaughter their counterparts from other servers. Then the whispers start.
Over thought out solution for a social problem

It’s easy. Just switch your status to invisible and keep blobbing them down. Uncheck all chats too.

Done, and you don’t even have to wait for ANET to update anything!

Really? Because it’s the only map that actually looks like it’s in the Mists. The others could be any random place in Tyria since they lack a sense of world beyond. The terrain even acknowledges three teams (snow, sand, and forest). The only down side is the distance of things, and the numerous pot holes. Otherwise, who ever did the aesthetic actually had some decent narrative vision when it comes to relating back to Guild Wars 2’s interpretations of the Mists (e.g. fragments of dimensions).

Give us back our communities.

Give us back tournaments.

WvW, fixed.

Without megaserver pve would be a ghost town for most servers on all but the newest or most wealth producing maps. Communities, as they were and are in wvw, never existed in open world pve to begin with. There is no “world” chat.
Tournaments steer the flow of ppt even further towards the servers with higher population, better off-hour coverage and only serve to burn people out and cause drama.
Without links many servers are basically dead on most of the maps, and all servers have fewer opponents to fight.

How are any of those things a good idea?

The fact that players suggest tournaments would be a saving grace for WvW merely proves Raymond’s point that they lack crucial understanding of the game’s data. By ANET’s own admission, in this case, tournaments caused permanent burn out of many players that participated. Which even I could have predicted considering victory is by who plays longer…

I suspect in this case deleting servers just isn’t viable for this business especially considering the game is 5 years old now. It may awaken sleeper accounts, but it may not generate new players. It would be even worse if 1v1v1 and 24/7 persistence is kept after such deletion. Which are two variables that lead to poor game play (back capping emptiness, and coverage wars). At the end of the day, posting ideas on a forum is going to be far easier than executing the idea itself.

I’d like to start off by saying the WvW team works hard to keep up with forums and also reddit. Your feed back and discussion is awesome and we love reading what you guys have to say. The unfortunate reality is we cannot reply to every post and so it may seem as though we aren’t reading things.

I’ve stated in a previous thread that deleting worlds and letting players choose a new world is something we have considered in many forms. At this time we do not have a solution that we feel solves enough of the issues with population balance while also hitting enough of our requirements for a change to be made.

As I said above we love the discussions and suggestions you guys have for WvW this particular problem is tricky as you guys don’t have all the details we are working from. A lot of the ideas we’ve seen have been well thought out and detailed they fall short because you guys are working from a limited perspective and not solving the whole issue.

What perspectives are missing?

Probably data that could be easily exploitable by the players. (Not discounting any current or past manipulations of course).

Or you know, the potential risk (money costs or player loss) of such an endeavor versus the potential reward.

At the end of the day, just praise Dwayna and hope for the best.

Everything points to pirate ship.

Given the amount of projectile hate, I doubt it. I do think we will see people clumping up less, trying to draw fights into areas where they can abuse the chokepoints, though.

Once comps are truly played with and figured out pirate ship will easily beat the projectile hate. It’ll end up being all about zoning which is how pirate ship is all about.

Projectiles not even necessary for “pirate” shipping given so many range aoe damage isn’t even a projectile.

Pretty sure it’s going to lag more though. That’s guaranteed either way.

No. RISE is strictly a RP guild. We do not consider ourselves a part of the “hard core fight guild” community that has been brewing in WvW since the beginning. We primarily gather in circles around purges to discuss our day. We do not engage enemies in combat, unless it is in tonics. Lastly, RISE is a garbage guild. Can confirm just a bunch of PvE heroes.

Anet is showing some interest in making WvW a better game mode and the pips/leggy armor/backpiece and all that jazz is sure a step in the right direction as well as the separation of skills between gamemodes. (im not gonna talk about the recent balance patch)

However before you make any more changes to WvW fix the lag.
Honestly i love wvw but the lag is something that needs to get sorted especially in 3 way fights in eb. skills dont work lag is an issue.

If your servers cant handle it dial the numbers back down on each borderland and give us another wvw map like ebg (5 maps in total)

The lag makes me give up on the gamemode more than anything else

There are 4 large maps. Fight somewhere besides the center of ebg maybe?

It isn’t just an EBG issue. Any three way on a full map does this (Garri fights on reset is a deal breaker for people too).

The reality is you either make new maps/match-ups where it is just WvW (not WvWvW) or reduce the players on the current maps. Of course, changing nothing is the cheapest approach.

Yep. Anything close to 4hz (or more) and between 4-8 cores. Shouldn’t even need 8 cores for just Guild Wars 2 though, but if you get any newer games that “may support” multi-core processing, then 8 could help.

I don’t understand these sorts of posts when getting pips is so incredibly easy. I don’t understand why someone would run two accounts to farm pips for the exact same reason.

According to them, they play Diablo 3 at the same time.

They take a few camps to get T6 participation, then play D3 and check in every 10 minutes or so to stop decay. When necessary, they take another camp or kill some passersby to boost participation up again.

Makes sense to play a grindy loot game that can literally be played with a macro (1 hand maybe), and then have another game that requires minimal effort as well.

This is unfortunate news. From the standpoint that the initial map makers probably (let’s be honest here, it’s certainly) didn’t have gliding in mind when it came to balancing the original maps (EBG and EoTM the most).

EBG can only really make use of SMC (adding to snowballing effect), and red keep.

Eotm is inconsistent by all the pot holes, but mostly flat.

ABL Garrison and Hills are high enough to be useful for gliding but that’s obviously by happenstance and not by design. Especially if you consider Bay can’t be glided out of to anywhere useful (you can glide from outer to inner Bay at least).

DBL is the only map that sort of considers gliding as an option, by now for obvious reasons. It at least has verticals everywhere for gliding to be somewhat useful. Although Lava keep has the same issues as Bay that I can foresee (it’s not a high objective), but will probably lack the gliding potential from outer into inner Lava keep.

BG’s NA isn’t really that strong, they just rely heavily on QQ/AHMA/FOO pinsniper/exploiters. (Yes, pulling commanders into terrain to get them stuck is an exploit)

Indeed. They’re SEA, and sometimes play NA to carry all the NA guilds. Hue hue hue. In seriousness, BG’s coverage is superior to nearly every single NA server. I’d rather they just unlock all servers, instead of just one, and let the players’ tolerance for queues determine their own fate. Oh wait, people just stack anything anyway regardless if it’s queues 24/7. Never mind just delete BG. Guess I lied about being serious.

It seemed like a huge content release to me, as it brought back old vets and also brought in new players to WvW such that we’re seeing queues and populations that haven’t been seen in a while because of the new rewards system. They don’t need to release anything else as part of the next expansion, or even live for that matter, because most have calculated the rewards in WvW will take years to obtain. I also agree about the part where whining led to many new features going away, including the new forms of portable siege and having 3 DBLs in the rotation. Haven’t you noticed that all the WvW polls have long since dried up? All those did was bring more division and bickering…

Probably means your definition of content defers than others. For me, this was just a big feature creep update to add in rewards. No playable content was added. Balance hasn’t really been adjusted for the better of anything…woo condi revs.

So yes, this is a major let down in my opinion.

Boycotting may be irrelevant in this context. The links are ANET’s way to match manipulate (ironic really). So between DB’s pop and its links…they might overwhelm the other two servers.

BlackGate has been gaming the pop algorithm for years. And the devs always fall for it.

Gamers are very good at figuring out how to exploit systems. That is to be expected. But the devs in this game have never understood that basic truth when it comes to keeping WvW competitive.

Moment to the moment the game might feel competitive, but WvW will never be competitive simply because population coverage wins matches that exceed 15minutes to 2 hours. Semi-persistent pvp sounds nice, but it won’t be “fair” forever. Maybe the Devs understand that basic truth.

Don’t know why I have to keep digging this out of my archives.

From a red post in the thread Whens the next WvW tournament?

Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.

However, we can still run a poll to see if the majority of the community wants another 4 week tournament, even if it might be bad for the long term WvW population numbers. Though even if ‘running another tournament’ won the poll, we’d probably hold off until we get the scoring updates in.

Just curious, of all the reasons why anyone would want another WvW tournament, which one(s) are better then Tyler’s statement against having another tournament?

Answer: what motivates the OP? It’s not the health of WvW.

WvW is boring, winning each week means nothing. Tournaments were fun. More rewards for wvw is good.

If WvW is boring, then maybe fix the game play? I highly doubt doing a tournament without fixes to the boring game play will make it anymore fun…

Get Rid Of Grandmaster Marks

A lot of people are annoyed with the full-time job of gaining pips to hit diamond, which I also agree with, but one thing I haven’t seen much of is the ascended marks.

*You need 500 level of whichever craft to make the armor/weapon
*You need 30g+ just to make 1 mark (armors take 3 or 4, thats over 90-120g for 1 armor piece)
*After playing for 30+ hours just to hit diamond chest to even be able to afford 1 piece of armor now you need over 100g to get it (which lets be honest WvW still doesn’t generate that kind of money)

Seems like this patch was just hype to get people to play again and the reality is almost no one will get any of this gear.

This needs more caveats. While I agree that having crafting is weird, but it does help deplete stockpiles of mithril/leather/silk. If you wanted to get all 3-4 marks right here and now, then yes it will cost that much gold. The level 500 crafting is still a thing which is eh…

For the minor caveats if you are looking to save some gold.

*Tickets are time gated, so ideally you would craft the 3-4 marks over a week of playtime, and not try to purchase the materials all in one day. This method costs me 30 gold for four marks at worst. Some of the crafted materials are time gated to 1 a day which is why they cost more gold on the market.

*The final set doesn’t require marks, but increased tickets. This is a trade off once you completed T2. This doesn’t apply to weapons that are all stupidly priced and completely inconsistent (e.g. one handed the same price as two handed for some reason…).

WvW is just massive pvp. It’s just as unwatchable as spvp is in regards to E-sports (GvG or otherwise). If not even more so due to the shear amount of spam or bland running simulator from objective to objective. Nothing in this game feels like it had an audience actually observing in mind. The combat for the player is definitely top notch at least.

Black Desert Online is just as bland with players farm mobs in circles for hours, with combat just as unintuitive and flashy. So why does it have 5,000 viewers and Guild Wars 2 has 500 on Twitch?

I don’t think it has anything to do with GW2 being a “running simulator” or having “spammy” combat; I think it’s purely due to the fact that Guild Wars 2 is five years old and has a very bad public perception following Heart of Thorns.

Not really, but that’s neither here nor there.

I was just more so addressing the point that there are games that are just as guilty of what you describe (in some capacity much worse) that manage to obtain larger viewership.

It’s not that GW2 is unwatchable (though I think Conquest in particular struggles to be entertaining to watch even as someone that’s played 4K+ matches of it) so much as that it’s not really a part of the conversation anymore. MMOs in general just aren’t really all that popular these days. World of Warcraft gets by just on the basis of having millions of subscribers, but after that it drops off a cliff. Final Fantasy XIV had a new expansion drop a couple weeks ago; it’s already down to under 3,000 viewers right now.

Then I’m confused. Your example demonstrated what I described. I need to be clear here, this isn’t just an issue with Guild Wars 2. It is true of other games, such as MMOs, as you stated. League of Legends or real Football (American and Everyone else) has a certain layout that is easily digestible for their larger audiences…like two opposing goals as a big feature. WvW doesn’t always have a clear view for those watching w.e. stream. So I would never expect it to be popular on twitch like say w.e. MOBA.

This isn’t the only factor obviously, but it’s a major one game designers consider nowadays. Staleness, as you observed, is one variable discussed in this video…

DBL is a beautiful map! The only problem, IMO, is the elevation. There are way too many cliffs. This is what makes it hard to traverse the map. Yes the map is the same length as ABL, but it takes longer to travel because of the obstacles of HEIGHT.

All the HOT era maps have fantastic (as in unreal) amounts of cliff-iness for their horizontal spans. And what makes for fun with cliffs in HOT PvE is, of course, flight.

WvW is just massive pvp. It’s just as unwatchable as spvp is in regards to E-sports (GvG or otherwise). If not even more so due to the shear amount of spam or bland running simulator from objective to objective. Nothing in this game feels like it had an audience actually observing in mind. The combat for the player is definitely top notch at least.


And no, a “spectator” camera isn’t what makes a game enjoyable to watch. It’s the understanding of the game mode by that captive audience which greatly helps…

No. Tickets are a time gated currency doing this badge exchange would remove that fact, and thus remove the value of a Ticket. In a few months Tickets would simply become the new stockpile currency. Around, and around we go from there. The way it is now, it will happen in like a year at this current rate. After or during that year, I would propose tickets purchasing the fancy consumables from HoT (e.g. damage reduction foods, stones/oils/crystals, etc. ). Since most of those also require a time gate material, and this will help to curb the rise in stockpile currency since utilities are temporary after all.

P.S. : If this game was subscription based I would be all for it, however it’s not. (Time gated things in a subscription based game is a scummy way to get player’s money over time without providing content).

This is going to be an unchanged core game play mechanic. I am afraid there is little hope for the OP beyond accepting that in this Lewt Wars 2 the penalty is decreasing lewt acquisition. Even if the way it is implemented is janky (as mentioned by bags continue to appear at your corpse), I can’t vouch for removing some minor form of death penalty. Everyone in this thread is already aware of how to reduce this janky effect. So do that in the meantime, and let ANET contemplate this topic (or not).

Or amuse me with more troll stuff. Idc. Minipet kittens for all that matters here.

You will never get population balance/solve coverage in any game match that is 24/7.

There are reasons you don’t see pvp type games exceed 30 minutes…in other words concern for burn out or limited time for players is why those games tend to choose 15-30 minutes play sessions.

The practical person in me says no, and it wouldn’t be a high priority. Consider the amount of time it took ANET to make the pve legendary armor. Consider the amount of time it took ANET to just do this update. It’s impractical, and especially consider there are still game play issues that haven’t been dealt with.

Not going to get into the possible copyright or license issues by allowing players to provide art assets. Bethesda/Steam already demonstrated how complicated that is.

Easy way to implement GvG.

The problem with any rule based implementation of GvG as part of WvW – whether it be easy or hard – is that it goes against the principle of WvW. Meaning, the gameplay mode is what we make of it. All of us, together. We set the rules. When you start picking out 20 people to go fight against 20 other people in their own little instance, it’s no longer WvW. If it’s not observed in open WvW, it’s not going to be very fun for us together. There is no danger fighting in your own instance, no involvement, no excitement. You’re not part of the world anymore or the matchup.

If you want these types of instances then call it what it is because this antithesis to WvW already exist in the game. It’s Edge Of The Mists. Guilds can easily go there and have their GvGs in an instance that has next to zero impact on WvW.

Eotm is a hassle, and conflicts with those that actually want to do Eotm…but Spvp’s foundation is better suited for what the OP is asking for: instancing, and group match making.

You wvwers continuously attack and try to tell players who play for rewards that they are doing it wrong. Getting rewards in gw2 is end game and to discourage that type of play is ridiculous. You also continuously ignore any complaint from new players or veteran gw2 players that suggest that the new system is “dissuasive” which it is. But u know keep ignoring it and shutting it down, should do wonders for the wvw population.

Generalizing us never good. Collection is end game for you.

This would be one of the times that the “us versus them” isn’t far off from the reality. Believe or not, games/games modes do target specific demographics. He/she has a conflicting one to the “vets.”

As for that person’s rampage on the forums, they’re a lot like Trump in comparison. Says a conclusion that’s loosely correct by some obscure reasoning, however the conclusion gets validated by other reasons that weren’t mentioned by them…

Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make my argument any less valid. The arguments I assert in this thread are 100% true and doesn’t matter if u don’t agree with it it’s a fact.

There is nothing as egregious as the new wvw system and there is nothing in game that it’s comparable to in terms of sheer grind and time spent. My main objection is the direction of the development of the game as a whole. I prefer games that reward skill but apparently you all love low skill high grind games. If u guys want the game to become a mindless grindfest then your all doing a very good job of that. If your all pleased with the new system then so be it, but I can tell u that it dissuades all new players and a lot of veteran players. But if u don’t care about that then by all means.

Because you said so is not a reason our arguments aren’t valid. They are valid. Just because you don’t like them, doesn’t mean they are suddenly not valid. Because guess what: this game does not revolve around you.

And guess what, this system doesn’t dissuade me from playing WvW and for WvW purposes, I’m a new player. My 5 ranks come from doing map completion from back when that was required to get the Gift of Exploration. I’d kill sentries, get blood lust, and take camps that I ran into if possible. Because killing NPC’s is the same between PvE and WvW.

I realize that I chose to not play WvW and therefore am not given the bonus for being a veteran of WvW. And should I choose to one day play WvW, I will eventually get the ranks required to get more PIPS.

I don’t like competitive play is the reason I don’t play WvW. They could give out legendary weapons and 100 gold every time you captured SMC and I wouldn’t play WvW.

Only against my argument they aren’t valid when I say there is nothing comparable to the amount of grind in this new system compared to anything else or the fact that rewards are locked behind 2K hours of gameplay. That’s a fact. When I say this is a shift in what Anet promised customers as to low grind gameplay and that this new system is a betrayal of that value, it’s a fact.

You can say that you like the new system, but u can’t argue that what I’m saying isn’t true. Your arguments aren’t valid because you are arguing against logic which is based on facts and your countering with nonsense like saying that there are other systems that are comparable to wvw reward system, which there isn’t.

Typically a change in leadership is a change in strategy. What was once “promised” (I doubt they used the word) in the beginning has changed. They wanted to break the trifecta of tank, damage, and heals at launch, but ultimately end up adding it with HoT for instance. This is a much bigger of a change in direction than pips.

Given this, it isn’t logical to place all blame on these players reactions to your OP. I doubt these “vets” are 100% happy with ANET’s additions given the major things needed are game play based not necessarily rewards.

Everyone should get the same pips for playing in wvw.

Then it’s just another reward track layered on top of the other reward track. Varied pip aquisition, and time gated tickets really are the only differentiating factor for ANET’s “new” reward system.

Which is why I actually hate this reward system in the first place. It’s UI clutter that isn’t far off from reward tracks. I can agree that same effort (regardless of player) should reward same reward in a game that cares about balance. This one doesn’t sometimes. So instead ANET provided the slow lane (low ranks), and the express lane (high ranks) to players. Instead of just retroactively rewarding “veterans” they simply sped up their progress and kept everyone playing at those different rates. I would have preferred retroactive rewards, since those vets would keep playing regardless of rewards (as they claim). The retroactive rewards wouldn’t have affected new players rate of acquisition unlike the current PIP system.

You don’t get legendary armor or legendary fractal back piece faster because you have been playing pve for 5 years.

You don’t get the legendary spvp back piece faster because you are rank 80 and played spvp for 5 years.

Duh. Time, and time spent on something specific are not necessarily the same.

So why do veteran wvw players, get anything faster?

It’s fine if they actually play better. The problem is finding a metric that can show this.

Why do they get exclusive armor that only they can obtain because of high ranks? Nothing else is gated behind high ranks. Entitlement.

Ignoring the use of entitlement. It’s because ANET has not found a metric to satisfy everyone/everything. Impossible for this scenario for the most part. So they shot from the hip, and went with rank. Regardless of how you feel how it was acquired it at least satisfy’s “time spent in a massive pvp environment.” Instead of “time spent in fighting npcs or small groups of players.”

Sure hope they add exclusive stuff for “veteran” spvpers and pvers. But I bet they won’t.

Puzzling request contradicts previous use of “exclusive armor” and “Entitlement.” Elaborate.

Unfair Tournament Ticket for new players

Am hoping dis be a troll tbh. If real…that’d be even worse.

The veteran got thousands of ticket in the past three WvW Tournaments. They can rush for the new rewards faster than anybody. It is pretty unfair to the new WvW players.

Medical student graduates got years of experience in their past terms of schooling. They can rush into the industry faster than the high student school prospects.

My suggestion is anet should launch another three WvW tournament for us. I will be awsome.

No. ANET has already admitted that tournaments caused permanent burn outs (lengthening the duration of matches does that for most games).

Do you really only play this game for items/achievements? Or the game play? Serious questions here.

Cooldown for changing borderland

Players hopping from a map to map looking for outnumbered buffs are creating unhealthy environments for general WvW game-play. Once we join a borderland, we shouldn’t be able to hop into other BLs for at least 5 minutes. This seems reasonable.

Isn’t it a good thing people leave maps in the first place where they are not afking and clogging queues for actual game play?

The actual problem here. This was just a feature creep update: a secondary reward track with a time gated token. This wasn’t a game play update, and so the game play hasn’t changed in regards to “fun.” I wouldn’t expect the game to be more “fun” with tokens. Time gated or not.

When Does One Up One Down Start?

Yeah a long time ago (4 years?) I proposed to have the
Predicted rating evolution as on http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups
in the WvW menu as the main outcome of a match.

This is exactly what I was saying I’m against: more UI clutter in order to explain something that doesn’t significantly enhance the actual play experience. Great that you proposed it in order to help demystify Glicko, but 1 up and 1 down wouldn’t require such things to show a normal person. Again, I am saying it’s easier for a player to understand One Up and One Down. Not saying it’s statistically better.

And yeah it’s easy to exlain: You gain Glicko, if you perform better than expected, you loose Glicko if you perform worser than expected.

Ignoring that I said in the previous post to not explain Glicko, and simply ask if the new/returning people care about Glicko.

1 up and 1 down is always easy to explain: Your server moves up after winning a match. Your server moves down after losing a match.

I wanted you to think about how a player feels about Glicko, and not it’s definition.

This is why I hate discussing scoring. People tunnel vision on this stuff thinking it solves something. Match stagnation, population, and so on. Score is the thing after the fact. You could just as easily resolve stagnation if WvW reset daily. That’s something that affects game play far more than removing random scoring variation or even 1 up and 1 down.

P.S. I hate the tiered structure to begin with. I hate 1v1v1. My opinions above doesn’t mean I totally like 1 up and 1 down. I’m just done caring about score at this point, and will never believe it adds much to the current game play beyond match manipulation by ANET (or players).

So for NA, fighting the same match ups over, and over is numerically better by population balance.

But even that is easier with the current system, just tune down the weight of the random roll. If you do to much you get total stagnation in match making.

In 1-up 1-down you always have imbalanced matcches in the even weeks.

Let me be clear(er?). Glicko is bad for the common player because it’s hidden behind technical game jargon, and isn’t intuitive within the game itself. It’d be more UI clutter if they actually put it within another game menu layered on top of all the other menus…and so on. This point of view is not about numbers, but the importance of “feeling” within the game. Accessibility. One up, and one down is far easier for a player to understand (which is important if you care about bringing on new players).

For the worry of imbalanced matches every other week. Yes, and no maybe perhaps. Typically for NA, 1 server is going to be dominate, then a middling, then a weakling. The weakling changing out isn’t much of an imbalance if it’s just another weakling. How does Glicko resolve this? How does 1 up and 1 down resolve this? They don’t. But removing the random roll resolves the issue of a Tier 1 dropping down to fight Tier 3, and Tier 4. As would 1 up and 1 down. It may be statistically better to do as you suggested. Now, try sitting down with all these new/returning people and ask how they feel about Glicko. Don’t explain, just ask what they think and see if they even know, care, or [insert other feeling] about it.
