I use it.
Sometimes it goes off, sometime it doesn’t.
I’ll see the animation but it won’t do any damage.
This happens randomly, when I use it.
Works for me, my WvW is different from my PvE and from my PvP. Didn’t actually know they implemented this and was all confused when I entered WvW and didn’t have my traits set-up like I wanted them to till in the middle of a fight XD
Reminds me of archeage, whoever looses stealth fist looses, or whoever has lower ping wins. And I quit that game because the PvP was so dumb.
From my experience, a lot of MMOs (like AA) suck because its whoever gets the initiative first wins.
I’m getting that feeling right now too, in GW2. But I can’t really say for sure if that’s what this patch did.
I’m still figuring things out, maybe the dev’s threw in some over powered counter to bursting builds and I just haven’t figured it out.
Burn damage is just ridiculous at the moment though. I feel like I need to invest heavily into vitality, in order to deal with 3-4 stacks of burn. There’s too much access to Burn, even if you’re packed with a bunch of condition cleanses, they stack right back up. Burn is to the point where you can’t afford to wait for them to finish a full condition burst, you have to pop your cleanses in the middle of it all and hope you can dodge the rest.
Is the spike damage to spikey?
Getting burst down left and right by everything/one.
I barely have time to hit my stun-break, and even if I do, cleansing the immobilize before the burst is another thing altogether.
Am I just playing it wrong after the patch?
- I go burst/spike damage and its just whoever hits whom first, so basically a race to see who can face-roll faster.
- I go bunker and still can’t get any counter-play in before/after the burst, because I’m dead.
I don’t know… I’ll keep trying out different things, but might have to settle with a face-rolling build and hope my ping is better than my target’s.
also you can make a new chat tab with combat log
He wants to know the “Death Recap”
“Death Recap” is the exclamation point right next to the “You are downed”/“Waiting to respawn” notice.
I remember when the PvP reward tracks were introduced and there was a huge influx of players entering matches then AFK’ing so they could farm the tracks. Back then I read a thread that we should report them for ‘botting’.
Is this still the correct action?
I don’t see too many of these folks anymore, thank gawd! But when I do, it irritates me that I can’t do anything about it.
Do I still report these mofo’s as botter’s? Or is there something else I can do?
Party UI in PvP seems to be glitchy/bugged.
Randomly, team’s profession icon will go black and sometimes their HP bar will go missing as well.
When you respawn or they respawn it seems to reset-ish. Sometimes it’ll fix itself, sometimes it gets even more buggy.
isn’t healing spring a trap?
When i activate my healing spring it insta casts like it did before the patch.
is this just me?
They still have to announce all the elite specializations, revenant (core and elite specialization), challenging content, PvE zones (specifics like #, name and size of zones), PvP (finalized stronghold), WvW (full BL reveal).
And if we follow the pattern of 1 week per reveal, that’s 11-13 weeks of reveals.
So we’re looking at Mid-Late September (if we don’t get any Core game content reveals, which would be sad T-T)
Pre-purchasing isn’t the same as buying after launch. There is much greater meaning to pre-purchasing a game, you are literally trusting Anet to deliver a great product, and for that trust Anet is thanking veteran players in the form of a character slot.
Anet has thanked players before in the form of gemstore items in the past; like black lion keys, revive orbs, and other consumables, so they aren’t thankless.
Remember, this isn’t a thank you for simply being a loyal player, this is a thank you for buying the pre-purchase.
I’m sure Anet has plenty of other rewards for loyal players in game. That’s what those time-gated event/festival rewards are all about: you’re a loyal player, you get to experience special content that new or unloyal players will never get to. That’s a pretty nice reward, at least it is for me.
Offering special deals for pre-purchasing is common. More than likely, they’ll have completely different gift packages after HoT is release so that’s why they’re need to specify if you pre-purchase for these specific package/feature.
Remember, pre-purchasing is completely a CHOICE. If you don’t like what they have to offer now, you don’t have to buy. It would only be considered strong-arming if they forced you to buy it to play the game you currently own. You can wait to see what else the offer in HoT or wait for a different deal/special down the road.
And you can’t say they’ve never given Veteran players anything, if you’ve played the game since launch, you would know that they’ve given tons of free gemstore items; blacklion keys, revive orbs, skins, etc.
when u buy the pre-purchase for the expan, u’ll get a code that you bind to your account that’ll give u access to HoT when it releases. U’ll have to download HoT, but not redownload the base game.
I have over 700 hours into the game and missed the cut-off for refund by 5 days. I guess I’m not veteran enough. I’m not mad, but it does kind of suck. $50 is still too much, but I don’t mind paying it as much because the game is enjoyable.
I will NOT pre-order however.
So you purchased the game 5 days after Jan 23rd? So Jan 28th? That means if you buy the HoT pre-purchase, you get refunded the price you paid for the base game. So if you bought the game at full price, you’ll be getting the expansion free. If you bought it on sale ($10) you’ll only be paying $40 for the expansion. Aren’t you kind of lucky? Instead of a free character slot, you’ll be getting either a free expansion or discounted expansion.
Unless you are Blizzard, the MMO business isn’t as profitable as you believe. Scammy free download mobile gaming apps make more than large developers
Like how you think that a company that makes an average of 20 million USD quarterly and 80 million USD annually isn’t profitable.
Anet has sold over 3.5 million units, even with their discounts. Selling 3.5 million units = a crap ton of money.
As consumers, we have expectations from a well established merchant, if that merchant fails to deliver or meet our expectations, we’re entitled to a degree of complaining.
Though, the complaints came out before anyone could really examine the product in question. That’s also more to do with Anet’s marketing team dropping the ball, not on the consumers.

A very good article illustrating the point that we don’t know if HoT will be worth the amount we pay for:
“Here’s the thing: we still don’t know a whole lot about the expansion. ArenaNet says that it’s built for repeatable, challenging content, and that the design of the jungle creates more verticality than ever before. But we don’t know how big the expansion will be. When I asked Colin Johanson this, after the expansion was announced, his reply was that ArenaNet wanted to “do a smaller sized area for total scope, and focus really on depth.” Even after a beta weekend, we’re still not fully sure how that depth will manifest.”
http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-players-rightly-upset-by-heart-of-thorns-pre-purchase-scheme/
I made a post in another thread with the same point, but found this article right after that. I’m glad that some members of the press are sympathetic at least.
The only pve content that’s even been hinted at is Verdant Brink, new story/LS that we see one short instance of, and yet to be disclosed “challenging group content”. Several features they are hyping as HoT features are, in fact, being made available to everyone. They’ve shown more of this new wvw map(that everyone gets), than any type of pve content.
If they have pve content, why aren’t they showing it off, or at least giving us some information about what is there?
The more I think about it, and see this mess of cash grabs an greed, the more I think that Verdant Brink and a few story instances is all of the pve content $50 will buy. Even if they promise more, it doesn’t make that cost worth it, as in-between updates are paid for by gemstore sales.
Anet is asking for a whole lot of faith in the value of HoT, but not giving much reason to have that faith.
I love how the OP of this thread is a simple question about what’s included in the Standard package, but nearly 90% of this thread is about whether HoT is worth $50 or not.
Great Job forum mods, you really merged the topics correctly!
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to have Guild Halls a part of the base/core game.
I feel like you won’t be a guild unless you have a guild hall to call your own, so not having one or not being able to go into one would invalidate core/base players’ guilds.
It’s not just guild halls, but the competitive mode changes to WvW and PvP. Shouldn’t a lot of these be rolled into the core game? A lot of these changes are also tied into guild halls, like new WvW weapons/objectives and PvP teams are all guild hall exclusive.
And the mastery system, shouldn’t they have a set of core masteries and HoT exclusive masteries?
In my opinion, a lot of the HoT features should be a part of the core/base game.
Do you think they’ll give one of the two guild halls for base players? Say a guild hall where you learn/create a foothold to begin your assault into HoT. That way players can learn a bit of the HoT story and decide if they want to buy/enter HoT zones. Then they could make the second guild hall exclusive to HoT.
If they made Guild Halls, WvW borderlands, PvP stronghold and create a set of core game Masteries NON-HoT exclusive, what will they be left with? Nearly half of what they’re marketing/selling at the moment; the Revenant, new Elite specialization, new zone and HoT exclusive masteries. With only half the content gone to the base game, they’d have to slash the price of HoT by nearly half right?
This is not a rage/qq or entitlement rant, just some thoughts I just had about some of the features that HoT is bringing. I just honestly believe some of these features should be a part of the base game and not a part of HoT. And I’m curious, and want to see if anyone else feels the same way.
Just curious is there was an actual explanation.
The scepter 2 skill, Smite, clearly looks like a symbol. So why ain’kitten symbol?
Tried to look it up, but can’t find any reason. Now that I think about it, why doesn’t any one-handed weapon have a symbol?

The forums was offline for nearly a day, and when it came back up, every HoT rage/qq thread was merged here.
Was this Anet’s answer to everyone?
You have a complaint? We’ll just drown you out with everyone else.
There’s over 90 pages here, I can’t possibly follow all the conversations. Are you telling me that someone from Anet is? Why have a forum for feedback if you don’t actually want the feedback?
They should just remove the rally system altogether. It is broken.

@Chocobo But WHY 50$ for something that we already paid for? The content in HoT seems way less than in the core game, that is 50$. If they wanna pay for HoT, then let it be only HoT, not something that we already paid for. HoT itself should be like 20-30$ for vet players, without the core game. Ppl thinking that Anet are fair to us with that 50$ price, the vets, they should stop posting in this kind of topics, cuz in this kind of topics, the majority can have a final word, those that see what Anet did there with the info at FAQ….paying again for the game, just to get an expansion.
At least if they would give us in those 50$ some gems and a character slot, that would be a bit more fair.
Anet priced the Xpan at $50, when you’re buying the pre-purchase you’re only buying the XPAN, not the base game. The base game is just a little freebie they’re giving to players who don’t have the game, Anet is basically saying that after 3 years the base game’s price has depreciated to $0. So don’t think of it as buying the base game again, this was just poor wording by Anet when listing the prices.
And I think $50 with a character slot or gems would be more fair. Read my earlier comments.
But an Xpan that delivers more than 60+ hours of play is worth $50 no matter how you look at it. Just think of a bunch of other games you would shell out $50 for, and think only about the amount of play-time you spend on them. I swears, you’ll be shock to see that on average it hovers around 60-80 hours, some even less. Any game that can deliver 60+ hours of play-time is worth $50, that’s less than $0.02/min. I have a hard time imagining that HoT will be less than 60+ hours if you just consider how long it’ll take to complete the mastery system.
I redeemed the HoT code on my current account. There are no separate codes, it appears if you redeem the code on your existing account you do not get another “free” copy of the base game.
This is highly misleading, unless someone from ANet wishes to explain to me how to start another account from a code that has already been redeemed.
If not, and I suspect as such, then that’s BS. The news and order pages should be updated to state that you do not get a free copy of the base game if you activate HoT on a pre-existing account. It means that veteran players are indeed getting screwed; those of us that have an account already will pay whatever we paid for the game originally ($60 in my case) plus $50 for the expansion and no additional account. That brings my total up to $110.
New players get both the base game and the expansion for $50. Wow.
That’s really all I have to say about that.
Depreciation my son, depreciation. This is ANET confirming that the BASE game is worthless now.
And ya, this was misleading, I’m glad I asked and looked around here before deciding to make a purchase or not. They need to reword it or put some kind of disclaimer because right now its just simply, false advertising and fraud.

Think then about ppl who bought the game 2 weeks ago for example, what about them? They need to pay again for core game if they want HoT. What Anet is doing is just wrong and unfair.
I’m pretty sure they’re giving refunds to players that purchase the game within a certain time period before the HoT pre-purchase. They only need to submit a ticket under ‘purchase issue’ https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new
Let’s talk about free MMORPG that gives alot of content and events, what about that? You paid 50$ for the game, they need to give us alot of content and event, simple. Not selling a 20$ expansion at a 50$ price.
And for the last 2.5 years Anet did give us a ton of content, you may not have been around for it or may have just forgotten. Check attachment to see a lil tid bit of just year one. Like i said, I’ve accumulated over 3000 hours of play easy on GW2. And as for FREE mmorpg’s I’d like some examples from your end that can really compare to GW2. Or are you a troll?

I have a very hard time to reach a conclusion if you are a troll with the title or you are serious. 50$ fair for a map and few other contents? The ENTIRE core game at 50$ has 10 times more content than HoT. If HoT was like 20$, then yes, it was worth and a price set with common sense.
This isn’t a troll post this is my sincere opinion that HoT is worth 50$ if you take into consideration that you will get the following
-Guild Halls
-New Borderlands
-New Elite spec although i’m a bit sad that the thief was not revelead yet.
-1 new Region which i think will be 5 maps with various size. But that is your opinion i repsect that.
At least tell your opinion with stronger facts on your side. You think those 4 things worth 50$? i mean lol, the core game it’s 50$ and has way more things than HoT has. So no, it’s not worth 50$, 20-25$ yes, but not 50$ for a region that is not even 1/4 compared to entire Tyria.
As Randall said, fair for a new player, not for a player that bought the game already, or for ppl who bought the game 1 month ago for example.
Consider play-time. A traditional RPG, you’ll pay $40-60 easy for 30-60 hours of play. If you’ve played GW2 since launch (like me) you’ll have racked up nearly 3000 hours of play, easy. So for $60, at launch, GW2 is was a steal compared to any other RPG or MMO for that matter.
If HoT adds 2% of the play-time as the base/standard, then it’d still be a steal for $50 when you compare it to other MMO’s or RPG’s.
I still think they should have a character slot for the basic expansion set.

The price is fair if you’re a new player.
Not even a character slot for $50 is insulting veteran players, who will need to spent more to be able to try new class.
Shadowly changing the FAQ to remove the “you’ll need core to play HoT” to a “core is included!” may even be illegal, they lied people who bought the game since the FAQ appeared until now.
Totally agree with you m8. If I were arenanet I would add some gifts for the accounts that bought their copy since the FaQ apeared.
+1
If we can’t say that it’s not worth 45 euros because we haven’t played the expansion, why can you say that it is worth 45 euros even though you haven’t either?
+1
I think the majority of players complaining about the free standard/base game are players that just recently purchased the game at full price and won’t be getting a refund. Before the pre-purchase, Anet did a lot of advertising for the base game, putting it on sale and telling players to purchase and play the base game before the Xpan comes out, you’ll need to buy the base game anyways. But in reality, they didn’t have to buy the base game, they could of just waited and bought this, get the base game and still had the time to catch up on all the content available.
I’m a veteran from launch, I don’t mind much. Just an incentive for more players, more players = more fun in an MMO. But i do understand the rage that new veteran players are feeling at the moment. They just shelled out $50 bucks for the base game, and now they have to shell out $50 more for an expansion, so they’re paying double what a new player is going to pay now, even though they’ve only been playing for 1-2 months. They don’t get the added benefits of all of LWS Season 1 and only get Season 2 if they paid extra.

$50 is fair for an expansion, what I have an issue with is not having a character slot with it.
They are adding 9 elite specializations and 1 new profession. 20% of the profession based features are the REVENANT.
Not having a character slot with the purchase means, in order for me to have a Revenant when HoT launches:
- I need an already empty character slot, or
- Buy a new character slot for $10, or
- Delete an old character slot (but they’re adding this horizontal progression system to the game, so players don’t have to delete pre-existing characters)
Anet, “Buy our game, disclaimer: you won’t actually have access to all of the features we’re hyping you for unless you shell out more money”
I understand your point i have currently a few characters :
2Thieves
1Mesmer
1Guardian
1Elementarist
1Warrior
1Free SlotBut i always made some gold or bought gems so that i could always have a free character slot. But not everyone has so many charachters and you do need an extra slot i think you sould think about buying the Deluxe Edition. Or just buy the standard and the charachter slot.
Dude, I have 12 characters, all at level 80. I just deleted one to make room for Revenant. Do you know how crappy that feels? It was a character I had the least amount of time on but it was the character I did the entire trait system with, so there were some feels when I got rid of him. I’m still adamant that $50 should warrant a character slot, that just doesn’t fit right with me still. And I’m not going to shell out $25 extra dollars for a character slot when its only $10 on its own, all the other features in the Deluxe just don’t appeal to me other than that extra slot.

By the same logic, it costs Anet nothing to add an extra character slot in the basic expansion purchase.
The majority of the upset seems to be the lack of a character slot for veteran players to try the new class with the basic expansion.
For example, all of my toons are level 80 (17 of them) and I’d be unwilling to delete any of them so I’d need to pay extra to play something included in the expansion.
It’s a small issue for sure, but an important one to a lot of players.
And why should you have to delete any of your old/pre-existing characters? Isn’t the specialization and elite specialization horizontal progression? Doesn’t that mean that you shouldn’t ever feel the need to delete a character? The Revenant is the last stand alone profession they’ll ever add to the game, after that they shouldn’t have to advert or sell toon slots in future expansions. Because all your existing characters will have horizontal progression in the form of elite specialization. A character slot for all the expansion sets should be standard just for the new profession.

$50 I’m totally down for. $50 without a character slot? Eff that.
20% of the profession based features is the Revenant, so you buy the Xpan. But you won’t have access to 20% of the features? Not unless you already have an empty slot. Or delete a pre-existing slot, but wait… isn’t Anet adding this new horizontal progression system so you would never need to delete a pre-existing slot? Guess we have to shell out $50 and $10 more if we want to experience all of HoT at launch.
The Character slot shouldn’t be a choice, it should just be.
This is the real problem, the wording of it all makes veteran buyers feel like they’ve just been rip-off/scammed.
Most companies make it a policy to make the buying process as inconvenient or as pleasant as possible, but Anet’s policy seems to be, ‘lets make everyone feel like they were just scammed, when they weren’t, for trolls’

Just ignore the standard/base game that they are advertising, it only affects buyers who don’t have the base game.
Basically, you’re only buying the expansion. The base game is just a freebie for buyers that don’t have the game already.
I agree, totally misleading and in desperate need of a disclaimer or rewording. As of right now, it feels like a rip-off for veteran players. But it isn’t. Anet believes that the upgrade alone is worth $50.

Gaile Gray.6028:
Hi again. Yes, you certainly may have a second account. You will need to use a separate email address — it is not possible to have two GW2 accounts with the same log-in. I’d remind you that for security reasons, it’s best to use an email address that is used only for Guild Wars 2, but of course that option is up to you.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Purchase-and-play-multiple-accounts
If you buy the expac, and are already an existing customer and want to use your current account. You’re paying for only HoT content, and cannot use the base game to make an alt.
If you buy the expac, and are a new customer. You’re paying for GW2 AND HoT content.
Being a new customer seems the better deal eh?
Yeah, feels like I’m getting screwed for being a veteran player, even though I know I’m only paying for the upgrade. The way they have the features of each pack is so misleading, they have to put a disclaimer or something.
A disclaimer for the base/standard upgrade would also be nice. We know you’re hyped for the new profession, which represents 20% of the profession based features we’re adding, but if you buy the base/standard upgrade, you’ll either have to delete a pre-existing character (we created this brand new horizontal progression system so you wouldn’t ever need to delete your existing characters), have a empty character slot already or buy a new character slot. Otherwise, you won’t actually have access to 20% of the profession based features we’re adding
I say 20% because they’re adding 9 elite specializations and 1 new profession, so the revenant and its elite account for 20% of all the profession based content they’re adding with HoT.
Just need some clarity.
When you purchase any of the HoT preorders, the base game comes free.
Does this mean I can upgrade my main account and use the base game I get as an alt?
Or do I preorder HoT and ignore the free base game? If this is the case, shouldn’t this be more clarified? Otherwise, isn’t this false advertising?
Just to put this out there, I’m okay with the pricing for HoT, it’s not that surprising. I’m a little concerned that the base upgrade doesn’t already include at lease one free character slot, unless we can merge the 5 slots from the free game into our main account.
Thanks again for the responses, there are just way too many threads at the moment, and I can’t seem to get a direct answer while I’m combing through it all.
So is there a chance that this won’t proc? OH, never mind, I just figured it out. Won’t proc or do anything if you don’t have a condition. Ah, Makes sense.
Spiteful Renewal: Striking a foe below 25% health consumes a condition from you and heals you when the condition is removed. (ICD 5s)
In upcoming June 23rd change, I don’t really understand this Spite-Adept trait.
You consume a condition on you, but when the condition is removed, you heal? How do you consume a condition and still have it on you? Am I missing something?
Your point is valid, and in the stream (well, at least what we could see) they specifically said they would be watching these points closely for balance. So yeah, your concern is unneeded. Balances will happen as a case by case basis, maybe Linch will get a buff maybe Rampage will get a nerf, we and the dev’s don’t know what the changes need to be until the patch actually goes live.
Right now, in PvP, everyone tends to run the same profession, its not rare to find a full team of Engineers and/or Rangers when they’re the daily.
I’m suggesting that you make every server have different dailies. This way there’s more diversity with them, especially in PvP.
In WvW, this wouldn’t matter much because everyone you play with is on the same server as you.
In PvE, this would mean that you would encounter more players from your server more often, when doing events or world bosses.
In PvP, more diverse comps because everyone isn’t picking the same professions for their dailies.
Thoughts? Just something that hit me a second ago, I wonder why?
It really isn’t that big of a deal to be honest. They played on different accounts. Get over it. If the rules were more clear cut on what constitutes a team or if this game actually had a proper competitive community then maybe this wouldn’t of happened.
Everyone knows who were the 5 players anyway so whats the big drama. Get over it people.
What happens if in the Manchester United v FC Barcelona, MU had Real Madrid put on masks of MU players and jerseys, then Real Madrid played for them? Would you allow this?
What if Mayweather v Pacquiao fight, Mayweather had Tyson disguised as him and fight Pacquiao? Would you accept the results? Would you even let that happen?
When a boxer is DQ’ed from a fight, because the boxer was fouling or breaking the rules, the opponent is automatically given the W and moves on if its a tournament/series.
Correct. AFTER the fight has started. Like when Mike bit Holyfield’s ear. He was DQ’d in the third round. In this case, the DQ happened BEFORE the commencement of the fight.
No fighter moves up the ladder because his opponent was caught for doping before the fight took place.
What are you talking about? MC and oRNG were in a match, then it had to be postponed due to connectivity; and while Anet was investigating the connectivity issue, they discovered MC’s infraction. What happens if an earthquake stopped a boxing match temporarily in round 2, and while they were waiting for the match to resume they discovered Boxer 1 was cheating? Doesn’t Boxer 1 get DQ’d and Boxer 2 gets a win?
People just feel that SALT deserves another shot, because (more than likely) MC was probably also cheating during that match as well. But Anet can’t prove that, or maybe they can, I don’t really know how they would even begin an investigation like that. But if Anet does do an investigation into the SALT v MC match and find MC was breaking tournament rules, then yeah SALT should get another shot. But until there’s real proof or an investigation into that match, then no SALT doesn’t get another shot. Right now its, he said she said.

Just had 2 Courtyard matches, both with different Premades.
Both with Venom Share thief, Necro, Ele and rangers/guards in some fasion.
Both matches, I just got decimated, <100 – 500
It’s just ridiculous, how many people make venom share parties to go into courtyard like that?
Didn’t the Reaper reveal specifically call out that it was picking up chill effects so you could fear a target while easily keeping in melee with it?
changed the topic to ‘should the change to dash affect fear’
So are you now asking if the change affects fear, or if the change should or shouldn’t affect fear?
In any case, my response in both situations will be “no”.
I’m asking if it should or not affect fear.
Why not? What makes a leaping skill (movement skill) different from a movement/control skill like fear or taunt?
Do we just call it magic and be done? I just can’t comprehend it, do you know why they’re changing how movement conditions affect leaps? Because I don’t.
Didn’t the Reaper reveal specifically call out that it was picking up chill effects so you could fear a target while easily keeping in melee with it?
It won’t have any effect on fear.
This applies to “leap” or “dash” skills. That is, skills that have an animation which involve moving the character. Fearing someone just causes them to run normally, it doesn’t invoke a leap.
For more info on the things it applies to: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Leap
changed the topic to ‘should the change to dash affect fear’
They’re changing how movement impairing conditions affect dash/movement skills.
Should this mean that feared targets won’t be affected by their cripple, chill or slow?
I personally think movement impairing conditions should affect dash/movement skills, they could nerf the amount that conditions impact them but why take it away completely.
I feel removing this mechanic should also affect feared and taunted targets as well, what do you guys think?
edit: was using ‘effect’ when I should of been using ‘affect’ #grammarrules

Having greater cap on vulnerability will speed up boss zergs? Yeah it would be bad, standing for a few minutes with aa on shouldnt by any means be shortened because it is nice and hard as is.
Uncapping Vuln. affects more than just PvE. In WvW, if a group could stack over 50-300 stacks of Vuln. in an area, easily on the enemy zerg. And then just cleave through for easy kills. The same could be said in PvP, everyone would be stacking as much vuln. as possible to oneshot.
Don’t forget, Vuln. is one of the most common conditions in the game. 41 weapon/utility skills and 21 traits across all 8 professions will apply vuln. It’s pretty easy to have just one player stack 25 vuln. without much effort. Vuln. is really powerful as it is.
Vulnerability with no cap (or a higher) would be so f—-ing op in zergs.
Let’s say you have 100 players dealing damage.
Getting Vulnerability to let’s say 200 would TRIPLE their damage.
Also just one stack of Vulnerability alone would mean you have one addtional player. (1% of the damage of 100 is the damage of 1)
People would go for full Vulnerability in open world and zergs since it increases the damage much more then all other Conditions and Skills.
The OP is not just suggesting they should remove the cap but change the way the effect is applies. Example, 100 stacks of Vulnerability wouldn’t equate to 100% damage increase but a smaller number, because of diminishing return so something the along the lines of 100 stacks of Vulnerability would mean 66% damage increase.
My thing is that 25% is already such a high number that even using a diminishing returns formula, getting stacks that equal to more than 25% would be too unbalanced.
Though, I just watched a WoodenPotatoes video about the subject, and he suggested increasing the cap to 50 stacks and halving the effectiveness of each stack, so 50 stacks would equal 25% damage increase. This would work in a sense that it wouldn’t break the game and wouldn’t punish comps that have more than 1 vulnerability stacking build.
