World completion will never happen for me.

You can get world completion in about 10-15 hours of play.

  • I go outside/perimeter then in, that way I don’t miss those weird reknown hearts that hide in caves.
  • Do events that help with the reknown heart, and don’t bother finishing them if you’ve completed your heart while its still in progress.
  • Hold the left ctrl while running around doing the reknown heart. Most hearts have 1-3 different ways of completing them, killing kitten isn’t always the fastest way.

In my opinion, map completion is the biggest/(only?) grind in the game. So I can understand your frustration or lack of enthusiasm towards it. It was fun the first time, when I was immersed in the story/lore of all things Tyria. But working on my 7th legendary and getting a 4th toon map completion isn’t fun anymore.

I always thought that every dungeon had 2 recipes, 1 that could be dropped from any path and 1 that drops from a single path. And the recipes can be dropped from any chest that you can see.

I could swear I picked up Vallog’s Demise from a random wooden chest off an elite in CMp3. But for sure, I got Husk of the Destroyer from one of the champs guarding the door after the carrier bit.

Only two I managed to get.

I thought this thread was going to be about Aetherpath.

TA isn’t difficult at all. The general mechanics are mainly heavy condition base, this is not the norm in PvE so I can see how a lot of meta PvE’ers might find it more difficult than some of the other dungeons.

A skilled Guardian or Thief could carry an entire party of PUGs or newbs through any of the two level 55 paths.

If their health takes a dive bomb from agony it will be obvious. They could easily be kicked from the group and replaced, meaning they wasted their time clearing the fractal as punishment.

Agreed, its pretty obvious when someone doesn’t have enough AR. And can’t really be all that mad at free labor. NO ONE should expect to be carried through a high level fractal.

More than a way to see a player’s AR, they should say the recommended AR at the beginning when selecting your fractal level or up in the right had with your personal reward level while in the fractal. That’d be way more helpful than the recommended party size, 5.

Take Twilight Arbor Aetherpath. It already has 18 achievements.

Say after completing all 18, I unlock 3 new achievements; the “ranked” achievements.

  • Ranked C – Complete 6 Aetherpath achievements in one setting. Rewarded 1 Bonus Chest +0 AP
  • Ranked B – Complete 12 Aetherpath achievements in one setting. Rewarded 1 Bonus Chest +0 AP
  • Ranked A – Complete 18 Aetherpath achievements in one setting. Rewarded 1 Bonus Chest +0 AP

These achievements are reset everyday, and repeatable (unlike the original achievements)

The Aetherpath is challenging and fun (I run it weekly). I love taking friends through and trying for their Mini Clockheart. I’d love it even more if I got rewarded too for repeating the achievements, which are unnecessarily difficult when you already have them unlocked.

its safe to say, speed-runs have bred a toxic dungeon community in GW2 and I just don’t care for doing speed-runs anymore.

From my PoV it’s the casuals who are the toxic ones.

That being said, I do want repeatable and rewarding dungeon achievements. I don’t care much for AP and would rather have the reward in some other form. Everything else you suggested though, you have my support.

Lmao, I can see how casual runners can be toxic too XD

I don’t really care for AP either, I stopped farming for AP at 10k. Completely pointless, IMO.

But its the only sensible way I could see to add in rewards for players who take it upon themselves to make the content more difficult/fun. Again, nothing wrong with them speed runs.

And the points aren’t given every time you do them, only the first time. I imagine 3 achievements that don’t reward AP but chests for completing them and resets every day.

Example:

  • “A-RANKED ACp1” – Complete XX/XX ACp1 achievements. Rewards: +0 AP, [Bonus Chest] (*Completed Resets in 00:00:00 hours) *Repeated X-times

Speed-runs have been a large part of my GW2 experience. And I love them, but its safe to say, speed-runs have bred a toxic dungeon community in GW2 and I just don’t care for doing speed-runs anymore.

I’d like to propose a Ranked-Achievement system to dungeons.

This would add a set of Achievements (and we all know how much Anet loves adding Achievements) to every path of every dungeon.

And completing a set of these achievements would net the player a daily reward chest. For example, completing 6/18 achievements would reward the “C-ranked” bonus chest, 12/18 the “B-ranked” and 18/18 the “A-ranked”. So a total of 4 daily “ranked” bonus chests, 5 if you include the regular daily bonus chest.

This daily reward system would give players who are seeking that “hard-mode” something to play with, without a complete overhaul of the mechanics already in place, and avoids stepping on the toes of the speed-run dungeon community.

Achievements could be along the lines of;

  • “Clear all enemies”
  • “Finish the dungeon under XX:XX:XX time”
  • “Defeat Morgan before rifle-men” (CMp1)
  • “Destroy all deadly blossoms once” (TA)
  • “Defeat the 3 defenders on the bridge” (CoFp1)

These “ranked”-runs would require more time and, hopefully, more skill to accomplish filling that desire for more difficult/challenging PvE content. Doing one “ranked”-run would ideally take the same time as 4-6 speed-runs (speed-runs would still be slightly more profitable, so that community shouldn’t have any reason to flame/cry).

This system would, ideally, carry over to fractals (which already have a set of achievements to work with).

In my opinion, GW2 lacks that challenging, repeatable content that many other games have. A reward system for repeating achievements maybe the best solution to fill the void I feel when playing GW2.

**You would still only get the achievement points for each achievement once, but repeating enough of them during every run would reward you a bonus chest.

This is too ridiculous, bought the game while it was on sale so I could play with my little brother.

Why did I even bother? It just means I’d have to buy a second expansion when it comes out.

Just tell me how I can get a refund. Please.

well… the expansion is not coming out any time soon and you won’t need the expansion to play the game, the expansionis just gooing to add some stuff to end game.

I wanted to buy the game for my kid brother, so we could play together, later down the line, I’d have to buy 2 expansions (one for me and one for my kid brother) being unable to register his account because they can’t seem to get it together isn’t worth the ridiculously cheap price I spent today and any future cashes I might spend in the future.

the site asks for a min of 8 characters for a password, so we enter an 8 character password. but errors saying that it wasn’t 8 characters. I assure you, my brother and I can count. its anet that can’t.

having issues submitting tickets/requests (but i assume this is just because of an overflow of complaints, the game being on sale and the HoT announcement probably has all their inbox’s full)

lack of support i can find for this is too infuriating, i’ll just stick to my 1 acc’t and tell my kid bro he can ef off and find some other game to play.

In order to get a refund you have to contact support.

I would however suggest not doing so yet, but instead trying more passwords.

Many passwords are blocked for use I believe, simply for being too easy. Try using a password that use uppercases, lowercases, numbers and special letters and see if that works better.

blocked passwords come up with a “unavailable” prompt. so the passwords I tried weren’t blocked, the site is just glitching and there’s no support unless you already have an account to post on the forums. Luckily, for me that’s the case. Not so much for any new users who are having the same issue.

If you want a refund you will need to contact support following the support link at the top of the page then the submit a request link.

Won’t let me submit a ticket/request. Even after I put all the info in.

If it did, I wouldn’t be trying to get a refund, but trying to still be activating the account.

This is horrible. Can’t activate the account, can’t put in a request/ticket. If I didn’t have this account already, I wouldn’t even be able to post on the forums. So if a completely new user trying to activate this game, there would be no support what so ever for him/her. Just frustrating.

So I just bought the game while on sale for my little brother. But we can’t activate the account.

Every time we try to register a password, it says that it isn’t 8 characters long.

We’ve tried multiple passwords, with different combinations of lower/upper-case letters, numbers, punctuation and symbols.

Having the same issue trying to submit a ticket for assistance too, the page won’t let me submit a ticket unless all the boxes are filled, when I fill them all and submit, it returns as an error saying nothing was filled in.

At first I thought it was a browser issue, I’ve now tried this on multiple browsers with and without add-on’s activated.

edit: all the passwords we’ve tried have been a minimum of 8 characters long

3 new Biomes = just 3 new maps?

ChoChoBo.6503

It could be that every new zone will have 3 biomes to them. So every map will be built vertically. Chris said in the last POI video that ArenaNet has been experimenting and really excited about maps that are vertical, rather than the traditional horizontal maps.

Take Silverwastes, there’s the above ground and then the below ground levels that doubles the playable area in a, relatively, small zone.

So giving us 5-10 maps in HoT with 3 floors to explore is like giving us 15-30x the explorable areas

Will, that’s just my hopeful feelings about the subject. In reality, it might not fix the balance issues many tiers in WvW are experiencing right now.

Downed State in PvP and [Sugg]

in PvP

ChoChoBo.6503

Am I the only one who feels this way?

You’re definitely in the minority.

Downed state is very good for the game. It prevents glass cannons with a survival cooldown from dominating the game. If you’re stuck in down state for a while, then people are intentionally bleeding you out to prevent you from getting back in the game. That’s only viable when there’s no chance of you being rallied. And if that’s happening, then you’re probably the last one at a node (learn when you need to abandon it) or you’re being overly aggressive with your map position (know what fights you can win quickly before you get +1’ed).

Not saying that downed state is bad. Just saying that being in the downed state and not being able to rally or rez, is already like a penalty in PvP, doesn’t make sense to add a second penalty with the respawn timer. Just feels a little redundant to me.

I personally think that if you go down on point after keeping 3+ occupied for 30 secs is worth giving them the 5 points for killing me, since it can mean that the team could have the other 2 points tick for 15+ points. Being overly aggressive can be good in someways. Just annoyed when I have to wait 10-20 sec in downed state, then another 6-10 secs to respawn for trying to get a possible point advantage. 30 secs is so long when you’re in a match. The most I’ve seen in other games that you have to wait in other games is 15 secs.

I’m just going to guess that everyone here feels that being in the downed state isn’t a penalty, and drop the subject.

Downed State in PvP and [Sugg]

ChoChoBo.6503

I love the downed state in PvE and WvW but in PvP, I just hate it.

You spend 15-20 secs in the downed state, trying your best to rally or heal. Then you die, and wait another 10-15 secs for a respawn.

Before you know it, you’ve spent 30 secs of the match not doing anything.

The downed state is meant to give players a chance, and be more adventurous and relieve the fear of dying. It works really well in PvE and WvW.

But in PvP, it feels more of a hindrance and makes me want to be less adventurous and gun-ho cowboy Xena the warrior princess Rambo crazy.

Most competitive games have a respawn penalty timer, which is fine by me, but you add the time in downed state, its just an outrages amount of time that you can’t be in the match.

[Suggestion]

Get rid of either the downed state completely OR the respawn penalty when you die.

The game doesn’t need two penalties for dying. If it did have two death penalties, they shouldn’t be the same penalties, maybe one timer and one armor penalty.

Wow, this thread kind of blew up.

BP is very op. Spamming it is hard, yes, but not impossible, especially on point with targets around you. This made it so you could keep a point contested almost indefinitely. So its not about targets/enemies being in the BP circle, but about the thief being able to stay on point.

So…you exclusively fought DPS Guardians? Because as far as I can tell, any War Engi Necro Ele Ranger Mes Thief would have simply switched to their ranged weapon and completely ignored the 12-18 init you dumped into a tiny melee resistant circle; if they were feeling too lazy to move around your little circle that is.

Contesting a point doesn’t mean bunkering . If a point is about to be flipped, BP is a great option for thief’s to keep it contested. I’m afraid you might not comprehend how valuable it is to be able to keep a point contested. If you want to range and fight off point, when you don’t own the point, go for it. I don’t mind fighting you off point in that situation.

I’m afraid you misunderstand some very basic concepts in this game.

1. Literally every other class in the game is better at contesting a point than Thief.

2. Your opponents can stand on point And fire their ranged weapons at you while standing outside BP’s effect, All at the same time! They do not need to stand off point to turn your melee resistant circle into a complete waste of init with their ranged weapons.

3. Dancing around inside of a BP effect on a contested point is probably the absolute least effective thing you can do for your team as a Thief (outside of very rare, specific, niche situations). Nobody wants their squishy, highly mobile, burst roamer to be sitting in place and doing 0 damage just so they can avoid some melee damage.

I think there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding here. 1 thiefs don’t stay on point, they go to enemy points and contesting it, bursting down targets that try are flipping or bunkering. Contesting isn’t the same as bunkering or capturing, its fighting on point to prevent opposite team from getting points.

If you’re gonna range on the point that’s fine, i’ll just melee you while you try to range me. anywhere you run on point I can drop a BP field, there’s litteraly no place to run if you choose to stay on point. That’s why they’re so good at fighting on point, they can stay alive wit BP while bursting targets down. If you want to range on point, go ahead, won’t stop my thief getting into melee range dropping a BP for a lil survivablity and bursting you down.

maybe i’m just using the word ‘contest’ wrong? i dont know anymore. BP is a powerful tool for a thief. Relying on a thief’s burst is all nice and dandy till you go up against 4 on point, all anyone can do is run away, using BP well enough u can keep 4 occupied on point long enough for back up to come by or ur team to cap the other two points (its nice to have options)

should i put 4 in to acro or 4 in to trickery

in Thief

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

Hmm… it seems to me that your Acro build is for solo/roaming and Trickery build is more for group/support-ish (well as much support a thief can provide)

This feels like a WvW build, if it is, i’d recommend 1 in acro and 3 in trickery. dodging provides a 2sec swiftness for mobility (which you can’t have enough of it WvW, espicially if you’re not running a sb for mobility) and 3 in trick gives u those extra initiative which can provide wit more burst options if ur initial burst fails. Though this is more my WvW opinion.

Edit: and u seem to be wanting vigor for dodges, which is nice. but tbh, your teef is running tons of evades already, d/d 3, s/d 3, your heal are all evades, not to mention your 2 stun breakers. d/d3 and s/d 3 don’t have cd’s and are spammable (to a point) so i wouldn’t invest too much into vigor.

They tried this before the 2nd tournament where it was free for some, high for others, and discounted for some, and it led to a lot of problems, and caused a lot of server instability and bandwagoning.

I remember this, was horrible for my server, but we bounced back. Dropped to T7/8 and bounced back up to T4/5 after it stabilized. Been in T3/4 now and everyone knows everyone on our server these days, its a pretty close knit WvW community we built. But going south lately, and just don’t know if there’s any way to fix it anymore.

Since that is a video game people don’t feel any “attatchment” to their server.

maybe the bigger issue is addressing server “attachment”/“loyalty”

Anet should find a way to give more rewards to players who play for one server or something. More rewards in WvW in general or something. Players should have an incentive to stay and fight for their server other than bragging rights and the rarely seen good RNG drops.

I don’t know, something in WvW is lacking. I feel there needs to be a change somewhere, if not with a server transfer grace period then somewhere else.

Its only spawn camping in EB, since the exits are so close together and its even worst if they have a waypoint in your keep. In the BL’s its a little harder.

This sucks, I know, I’m in T3.

But matchups are determined by how well servers preformed the week before. So if you’re not moving tiers, it just means your still scoring higher than the servers below you to drop down or for them to come up.

You can’t really do matchups by server population because of the inconsistency of PvE to WvW players.

What Anet can do is lower the player cap on specific matchups, but then you wouldn’t hear the end of it from a much larger population of players.

I find that its easier to abandon WvW on matchups like these and go play EotM for a week or two.

We we’re 3rd last week, so I dunno about doing well. Sure we’re beating mag this week, but I’m not sure thats much of an achievement.

If you look at the spread, and if it stays the same, you’ll probably be in the same tier, but EB will move up and Mag will move down. So next week you’ll be up against ET(from above) and AR (from below). Don’t know how that match-up will compare to this week, but its a hell of a lot better than T3, for sure.

There’s been a lot of posts about the unfair match-ups lately. Mainly in NA.

How about a 2-3 week period, when World Transfer fees are free?

Give players time to balance the servers themselves. And just see how things shake up in WvW.

I mean the only ones who have any real incentives to transfer are WvW prone players. And the WvW population is rather small in comparison to PvE, so its not a huge lost in potential profits. I know Anet doesn’t like seeing all these unfair match-ups and are just lost when it comes to solving the problem.

If Anet is worried about a huge change in balance, they could limit the amount of transfers in and out of specific servers.

Unlock NA Tier 1

in WvW

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

Why do people insist that the tiers are locked? Anet can’t do anything about it if players gravitate to t1 more than they do to t2 or any other server. If you want more variety in the NA t1-2 matchups then go on a massive WvW recruiting event, and bring players into t2 servers to they can help/compete with the t1 servers. Or recruit t1 players to move out and balance a bit of t1-2.

Its completely unreasonable to ask Anet to forcibly move players to other servers if they don’t want to.

Is it just spamming siege down?

Is it griefing if an enemy does it? Because awhile back (probably a year now), it was really popular for enemies to spam bali’s up on walls to prevent defenders from bulding proper siege/ac’s.

Offer weekly prizes/gold. Have a ‘mentor’ rank where they are tasked with teaching new players more about the game.

Or you could do it my style, make a mesmer, be good at jumping puzzles and port players/member through them. Honestly, if you hang around a jp long enough, you’ll find noobs that are so thankful for your help, they’ll join your guild.

I wouldn’t suggest this :P
Prizes / Gold to keep players from leaving, that’s just bad…
Mentor rank only works with those experienced and intrested in that stuff.

Also I wouldn’t call your potential recruits noobs, don’t think they’ll appreciate that xD

I do weekly guild competitions with gold prizes. Some of them are picture contests, scavengers hunt, hide-and-seeks and trivia. When I or other guild members are to tired to think of one up, I’ll do a random gold raffle for active guild members. Its not paying players to not leave the guild, its rewarding players for being active with other guildies.

Noobs are noobs, the first step in fixing a problem is realizing it. Everyone has to start somewhere, and in a MMO, you start of as a noob. If you go about it in a negative way, then it’ll be negative.

And if you’re playing with a guild who doesn’t want to help other guildies out, then I wouldn’t want to be a part of that guild anyways. You don’t need a ton of experience to be a “mentor” or show a new guildie where to go to get to Lion’s Arch or know what zones are best to level/explore at their level. Though its nice to have members that can teach you the harder things like fractals, its not necessary to keep a guild.

Edit: “Mentor” rank may have been a bad word to use, but a rank that’s specific role is to help your new guildies out would be helpful and will keep players from leaving. How many ranks do you have in your guild? What are all of their roles? I’m sure you have a “ventran” rank that doesn’t have any specific role but identifies them as someone new guildies can ask for help because of their higher guild rank?

There is a way for you to turn off what you see, but not what other players can see.

Open the game, log-in. If you look at your chat window, there’s a gear/setting button. Toggle In-world chat bubbles (or something like that, I can’t remember what it is specifically) The only problem is that you can’t see Say/Party chat bubbles, so messages like “here” wouldn’t have the same effect anymore. A rather big price to pay for no Job-o-Tron messages, imo.

Edit: doesn’t effect the sound. You’ll still hear it if you have your audio on.

"Meta" does not mean "Most Effective"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ChoChoBo.6503

Meta is the easiest/most efficient way a random group of players can play without having to communicate.

Granted there are better/more efficient ways of play-style in groups if you can communicate on the fly/in-combat, like you do in a call. But that isn’t always the case when you are playing with pugs, and therefore cannot be the meta.

This is why there are guilds/groups who run faster dungeons/fractals than the meta. Or why some WvW/PvP guilds/teams who just out perform other groups.

Your style of play may perform better than the common “meta” but only really works if your group can communicate and prepare before hand. The common “meta” doesn’t need the additional time it takes to prepare/communicate before hand and therefore more effective when playing with a group of strangers you’ve never met. Its the “strongest” or “most powerful” build/play-style you can play with, when you’re playing with strangers for the first time, a situation you see plenty of in an MMO.

2hander Axe vs Polearm vs land Spear

I fail to the how a 2-handed Axe would differ from the 2-handed Greatsword, aside from aesthetics, they are mechanically the same. Kind of how a 1-handed Hammer works the same as the 1-handed bludgeon called the Mace.

And the polearm is just the Staff.

Spears already exist.

I think you need to rework your question to, What weapon to you want your class to be able to use?

Me=Ranger and Rifles/Pistols or Engineers and Swords/Daggers.

Turning D.Tokens to gold still viable ?

?? Don’t you use rare salvage kits on rare items, then sell the mats you get? You don’t need the exotic kit then.

Some players will use the exotic kit to salvage the exotic items for a chance at the insignia’s, but the return on that is much lower than the rares.

[SUGGESTION][PSA] Job-o-Tron Backpack

Though, this saved my parties life yesterday, was cata Mendon’s on EB when I spotted the voice bubble on the other side of the wall. We were able to back off, stack up and prepare for their bomb.

So enemies can spot the Job-o-Tron’s voice bubbles. This will reveal your location to the enemy. Sucks especially when your a mesmer trying to hide in a keep or tower. Sucks when you are in a group and stacked, getting ready to bomb the enemey.

Take it off or turn it off.

Suggestion: Anet should make the voice bubble invisible to enemy players.

Edit: The voice bubbles are invisible to enemies when you are in stealth, so thief’s can rest easy.

Opinion on Guardian frontline build

in WvW

ChoChoBo.6503

That’s pretty much the standard tank guard build.

If you’re bored of it, try using a shouts/altruism or meditations build. shouts offer more cleanses/support and the meditations will offer a bit more dps for front line. Both have lower toughness but stay alive via the additional healing they can do.

[Suggestion] Guild Leader/Officer Tag

in WvW

To be honest, guilds to me are just a friends’ list with tags for better organization. One for WvW, Dungeons/Fractals, sPvP, Social and a personal guild.

The game doesn’t really offer much in terms of guild utilities that make it a must to be in a guild.

A guild tag would benefit PvE and WvW, but its not there. It would allow PvEer’s a way to instantly see if their guild is on the same map for a guild event. And alloy WvWer’s a way to run guild raids. You join a guild to play with your guildmates, not to play with random pugs. If I wanted to play with pugs, I’d just use the LFG.

The game might benefit from a party leader system, where the one you started the party gets a buff/aura that only the party members can see. To identify the party leader.

These days I just have the leader use a random hylek hue potion to change his color. Can’t miss the glowing blue player.

What Disabler/Trap/Siege do you want?

in WvW

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

I got one,

Siege Cart – costs 50 supplies to build
Allows you to build a siege on top of it and while one player controls the siege, another controls the cart. (Omg, movable rams/ac/cata/trebs)
You’d still have to build the siege you place on the cart.

Mastery will allow for faster movement speed, self-destruct aoe skill (that does more damage if the siege is destroyed with the cart), and bubble.

The drive controls will be the same as on siege. Only a left and right arrow and a forward button.

Edit: cart will have double the movement speed of a golem.

Scoreboard, useless?

Eh, I guess it might be harder than I originally thought, like if there are two bunkers on a point (which I wouldn’t understand) would the points be divided between them or would it be accredited to the first one on the point.

Either way, I don’t like the scoreboard as it is right now.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scoreboard

For people who don’t know, the scoreboard in PvP is the personal score of each player in the match. It doesn’t directly influence the Team Score.

The personal score can however earn you bonus rank points if you score high enough.

I see so many people boast about being top scorer when in reality they didn’t contribute much to the overall Team Score. They just happened to get a hit on a player or is just getting the stomps without fighting.

Instead of a scoreboard that shows something useless in a team activity. How about showing what a player actually contributes to Team Score that actually effects whether your team wins or loses?

Like say bunkers get accredited the points they get while they stay on point. And only the player that does the most damage to kill an enemy player gets accredited the points for the kill. Wouldn’t that be a better reflection of how well you are doing in a PvP match?

Contesting a point doesn’t mean bunkering.

[EotM] k-train v bag-train

in WvW

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

I love WvW, but when I’m in a bad matchup (*cough cough NA t3) I go to EotM for my WvW fix.

Whenever I am in EotM, there’s either the k-train commander or the bag-train commander. And say the map I’m on is the bag-train commander and the group following would rather k-train. Instead of a second person tagging up, the group flames the bag-train commander till either he starts k-training or tags down. Or vice-versa.

Is it a preference thing? Or does one give better loot that the other?

Which do you guys prefer? K-train? Bag-train?

Which is the most profitable?
