To the OP:
ur teammate has full hp and 1v1 at home. do u leave him and +1 mid? do u +1 home? u leave him; he dies and loses home, is it ur fault? u +1 home and u guys don’t get mid, is that ur fault?

do u stomp, cleave or bleed them out?

do u rez or go for the rally?

can u tell wen someone says ‘i got home’ or ‘go mid’ in chat, can u tell if it was said 1min ago or 4mins ago when ur in the middle of combat and can’t really look at the timestamps?

communication is a team-queue strategy, and nearly impossible to replicate in solo-queue.

solo-queue is where u need to make the calls on ur OWN. if u can’t trust them to 1v1, then u +1 that fight and if they blame u for losing mid then so be it.

Don’t be that guy that tries to play like a team queue wit a bunch of solo queuer’s. solo queuer’s got their own way of doing things. let the team queuer’s do their thing and solo queuer’s do theirs.

I stayed, played this game even though I was having a bad day, I stuck with it to get me 1 foooking PIP and when I finally get it, I DON’T!!!!!

6 foooking matches, 4 of them against foooking 5-man guild groups….. But I still kept playing……. ohhh the salt is real now.

its just hasn’t been found/updated by the community that runs the wiki.

with the large influx of new data, i’d expect more than just trailblazer to not be up to date.

So in Auric Basin, the Trial by Fire meta-event where you need to race other players to get an Armor suit. If you stack swiftness on yourself before entering, you’ll have an unfair advantage over the other players racing with you.

Example, during the last run for the armor suit I decided to stack 28s of swiftness and entered the instance 8s before it started. I outpaced everyone else by a lot and got myself an armor suit.

Is this an exploit? Seeing that when you enter the racing instance, they take away all skills so its a balance/even race?

u can’t really compare gw2 to moba/arts. gw2’s combat system is ‘fast action-tab targeted’ and really different from moba/arts games, even if stronghold objectives are the similar.
gw2 is more comparable to other action based games than it is to moba’s. that’s why, even in stronghold, a timer is still better than no timer. cuz without that timer, you’ll get tons of endless/stalled games were one team is always defending and another always attacking.

though, i want to say, 15min stronghold matches are a bit too short. there’s more than double the mechanics on a stronghold match compared to a conquest map. it takes way longer to fully use all those mechanics than the time allotted. which is why you end up with matches that are always one sided, there’s just no time to set up an attack and defend in 15mins, even with the supply drops from enemies in your lord room. OT was a good addition, but i don’t think it solved much.

as of right now, stronghold is more about PvTimer than actual PvP. and i still feels its not enough PvP and too PvE/Moba. if i wanted a moba game, i’d go play a moba. i play gw2 PvP for PvP.

Burn will get a nerf, think Anet already confirmed this somewhere, but most likely not pre-HoT so just hang in there

Which shows the next problem this game has. Way too slow balancing.

Sorry other games throw minor balancing changes for completely broken stuff out like bi-weekly. ANet requires 6+ months.

A balancing patch every 2 weeks… so rapid iteration on balancing is required for 3 years now, but they just don’t do it.

the reason why their balance updates takes forever is because its balancing between 3 distinct game modes. simply scaling back burns isn’t like scaling a specific profession, mobs/ai use burns too, so they’d have to scale it for mobs and other items. plus, in the post about upcoming changes, they’re not just looking at scaling down burns or nerfing cele ele, but buffing other mechanics too.

the gw2 forums are a joke. not to be taken seriously. this isn’t a proper forum, its a bulletin board/wall for players to yell at. if they wanted real feedback and a proper tool for the community to use, they’d have more permission to the OP, and sub threads on topics so ppl can build conversations and provide proper, constructive feedback to the devs and the rest of the community. at the beginning, anet (colins) recognized that the forums is kitten, and they argue that they’d rather spend company resources on the game rather than fixing the forums. what that means, is that our feedback isn’t worth investing in. if you want a proper discussion on any subject, go to reddit.

i think the game matches players/teams with the same/average glicko points.

so it’s not a matter of profession/gear/build balance but skill balance. a crappy player with a good build doesn’t mean anything.

though, this might not be the situation you’re in.

matchmaking needs more work, but i’m pretty sure they never be able to get it perfect or to how you’d like it.

Tips fighting mesmers

Just burst down the real mez as fast as you can.

If you can’t, then kite the clones.

If you’re getting shattered on after a cc, then you’re probably fighting too close to the mez. You’re using a rifle, use it.

So long as its just the mez by himself, most of his skills have big tells (pretty much every time they raise their hands, you need to dodge) and you can avoid them. Put on ‘analyze’ so you can pop him out of stealth with your grenades, so he can’t hid his big tells.

Mez’s are much more dangerous when they’re +1 you. If that happens, you’re better off disengaging

Please, some developer let me save the stats for the last 3-5 matches.

If I have a good match, i’d like to be able to go back to it and take my time and jot down notes. Like party comps and my own stats.

If you don’t add this, can you not boot me out so fast? Give me enough time to get down the stats. I barely have enough time to scroll over to the stats, especially if i’m typing in ‘gg’ in chat.

Why add this feature, if you don’t give us a proper way to look at it?

When you message someone whose offline, you don’t get the message that they’re offline.

Instead you get a message saying your internet isn’t working.

This is so not cool. I really thought my ISP went kaputs for a moment there. I even restarted my client, leaving a 3 minute queue in PvP. Please change it back to ’they’re not online’ again.

also, if you’re friend is playing a MM necro, then it makes sense to think he could leave you to a 2v3. Seeing how MM necros are just tanks. He probably thought he could help out on other node and then rotate back in after saving the other node. But I’m guessing both nodes got flipped from your story, which happens. He made a play to save both nodes instead of one. He could of put too much faith in the MM or underestimated the other team, who knows. Again, this is all just speculation, he could of just been a really crappy player too.

But i guess i should stop talking about the mesmer.

The future system seems to be set up so that after a point, crappy players won’t be able to move higher. I’m assuming at the middle of the tiers, there’ll be a split where the lower half of the 3rd tier/division is crappy players and the top half is decent players. even if the crappy players can’t go back down, they’ll just be stuck in the lower half of the tier/division so you’ll only deal with them if you drop down to the lower half of that tier/division when you’re on your slump and have to grind your way back up to the top half and hopefully to the next tier/division so you’ll never see them at all during the season.

Im seriously a bit confused about your responses. Im playing warrior and my friend is playing MM necro. We both fight on the cap points to hold and prevent the capping for the other team. You guys are sitting here telling me its ok if your a thief and/or mesmer to leave me to fight these 2 people on my own?

I refer to rangers and engys sitting from the edges free casting and you say for thiefs and mesmers its good for them to leave?

Me and my friend were winning every 1 vs 1 match up which is why we were in the games and your telling me that a mesmer/thief cant help at all with dps against a enemy?

The best part about your responses is you name your own situations to say its ok to leave. How can you help a team if all your good for is outnumbering fights? When you enter those AG and ESL tournaments the most important thing is winning all the even fights no matter the classes.

Also to chase, you dont know my MMR and there is no basis to what your saying.

One of the biggest reasons why mez and thief aren’t good in even fights is because they get all the focus and considering how squishy they are in general, unless you’re playing on the low end tier where everyone targets the d/d cele ele or bunker guard and wonder why they’re losing an even fight.

If I’m on my thief or mesmer, then I’m looking to +1 already even fights because the 2v2 should be applying enough sustain to let me pick out and gank a target before they get the chance to focus on me. If I’m in that 2v2, then normally I get so much pressure/focus that I have to continuously disengage and every time I re-engage I get so much focus right off the bat that I’m already disengaging again. It doesn’t make sense for me to be in those kinds of situations where I’m not adding anything to the fight and only able to distract them for a few seconds, it’s pretty close to me just standing on the sidelines watching a 1v2. So at that point, it’s more productive for me to rotate out.

And if you’re winning those 1v1s, then it would make sense for them to let you handle it on your own while they moved to fights that needed their help. It could of been he left you guys because he knew you could handle the 1v1s.

Don’t know if this helps you understand why I’m defending the mesmer. Who knows, he could of been a crappy mesmer that just didn’t know what he was doing. Or he could of been a higher tiered mesmer who was avoiding the focus/down so he could +1 somewhere else. Really hard to tell you what that mesmer was really thinking.

Steal is a class mechanic, not a utility skill. Ranger pet skills have cast times. Warrior burst skills have cast times. Mesmer illusions need to run to a target if they’re not sitting in melee range.

Steal is often coupled as a teleport with backstab for burst, or to cover a cloak and dagger animation in WvW where D/D is used.

You’re complaining about powerful effects with no tells but the thief has plenty of his own.

I’m sorry to interrupt your “woe is me” thief parade, but TCG/oRNG/Abjured all run a thief. Guess how many mesmers/rangers/any class that isn’t thief or ele they run?

First, you was all about thief being able to burst down without any tells.
Now, you’re straight up, just saying Steal is over-powered compared to other professions.

It’s like you’re having 2 different conversations.

I wasn’t complaining about anything, you were mentioning powerful effects/bursts with no tells and was only complaining about the thief, like its the only profession with those things.

Now let’s talk about steal, because that’s what you want to talk about. Steal is uber weak unless you trait it. It’s not like other profession mechanics where if you trait it, it gets better. Ranger Pet Skills, Warrior burst skills and Mesmer shatters are all mechanics that are worth using without traiting anything into them. Steal on the other had is complete garbo without any traits into it, this is a pretty decent trade-off seeing how you give up nearly 6 traits to make Steal worth using (mug, improv, thrill of the crime, bountiful theft, sleigh of hand, hidden thief)

Sidenote, “woe is me” would only apply to me if I was complaining about the thief, but in this case, you’re the only complaining about the thief…

And to answer you question, Abjured run 2 professions (engi, necro) that aren’t ele/theif in their reg comps. oRNG run 3 (war, guard, guard). TCG run 3 (mes, engi, war). So 8 altogether. And both Abjured and oRNG have run Rangers before (Phanta and ROM both known for their Rangers too). Also, Abjured has run several games without a thief before, swapping it for another engi.

EDIT: lmao, my bad Zenith, i’ve been quoting you but I meant to quote the other guy Cynz. He was the one that originally complained about thief burst with no tells. my bad mang, reading the posts with all the replys got my head spinning a bit.

Thief burst doesn’t instagib anyone…. at least not with normal build. Mesmer can run plenty of survival and CC while being able to instantly down someone from stealth. Once again, i wouldn’t touch rune of vamp pre patch, now i have no choice because of mesmers.

Actually thief has all right to complain about high burst with no tell, while other classes have way of dmg mitigation or simply high HP which allows them react in case they get nuked, thief just gets instagibbed. Once again, backstab is NOT the reason why vamp is mandatory and nerfs to the spell wouldn’t change anything.

Oh and just in case you actually have any interest in listening: do you know why warriors have highest HP in game and a lot of survivability? Because their spells have huge tells and long animations. Now take a guess why thief spells have short animations or are instant. Just a hint: a thief would die before he could ever execute earthshaker.

@Zenith, @Cynz is right here. The ‘burst without tells’ is the thief’s backstab, which got nerfed ages ago. That initial backstab barely hits over 4k these days, 6k on a lucky day. What downs you is what comes after that first hit, ‘basi/backstab’ is the tell and if you’re to slow to break out of it, then ya, you can’t complain about getting bursted down.

He’s talking about skills, not actual base stats. Skills have different base damage values and scale ratios.

Don’t weapon/utility skills use a multiplier/coefficient that works with the Power stat that determines damage output? Looking over the elementalists dagger skills, a majority of the coefficients don’t seem out of the norm compared to other professions and weapons.

Does the OP have any specific numbers or skills that he wants to point out? Or is this more of a ‘I feel’ post?

Just an “i feel” post, the ele issue has been around for a while now and just thought since eles benefit so much from Cele (forced to take healing skills etc.) they might need their Power interaction rescaled to compensate.

Most other suggestions to fix it would gut the class or do very little or remove an amulet. This was just a thought on how eles and Cele could be fixed.

Ya, I feel you. Ele’s feel like an overpowered profession indeed, but it’s way above my scope to really pin-point on what makes them feel so overpowered right now.

Ok thanks good to know, its happening so much now im getting completely frustrated.

Literally just now i was in a match with the same friend and we had a warrior quit playing because he couldnt do anything. We were winning at this point and he said this is B******** and ran off from a 2 vs 1. He didnt do enough dmg to hurt the guardians and he couldnt survive for 10 sec in 1 vs 2 fights.

So because he quit our other warrior quit, the score was 280 to about 320 and they just quit. And we were winning 275-250 earlier in the match, this expansion better come quick cause this is getting silly dumb.

No, matchmaking is still active.

And even if the system was perfect, the human element of it will always be an issue. If you’re running into matches where you have bad players, unfortunately that means your MMR isn’t high enough for serious people to play.

Not really, the system many times punish you to have an high mmr because they put you with low mmr player to get an average mmr similar to oppenent team (and you basically need to carry bad player and in gw2 is not really easy).

I remember there was an old optic about high mmr.

Ya, this happens a lot. You (or specifically, me) gets thrown into matches and placed on teams that are just not worth talking about, until I lose enough matches and get paired with decent players again.

And the QQ from players not being able to 1v2 is reals. I have a theory that most of the players bragging about being able to 1v2 are players that hang around only in the low MMR bracket. The move up, go against decent players of the same skill level and QQ when they realize they can’t handle the higher MMR players in 1v2. Force a handful of loses, and jump back down to a bracket they can enjoy wrecking noobs.

And to the OP, if you 2v2 with a mez, you’ll normally lose so him just disengaging and surviving is better than both of you being stuck on respawn. I think a lot of people refer to a thief and mez as the “pain-train”. They both have that mobility to move around the map fast and +1 a lot of fights, and they can focus down targets together. From my experience, its really hard for a mez/thief to 1v1 from a fair fight where both sides have full hp and cds up. For me, when I’m entering a fight, I normally focus on the target that just popped his invuln, stunbreak, cleanse or heal. That or the target with the lowest hp ;p

I’m also a scrub too, sometimes I’ll disengage from a fight when we’re +1 or winning because I don’t notice the +1. Yup, 2v2 incoming and I run away, all cuz I didn’t see the ally next to me XD

Considering the amount of QQ the forum still gets for thiefs, I say yes.

But you make an interesting point. A lot of players think its easy to be good on a thief, but it really isn’t. It’s so easy to screw up when playing a thief and get yourself busted. To be a good thief, you need a lot of practice, way more time training than on… say, a burn guard.

It’s easy to play a profession, a different story when you want to master it.

If a thief pops on you with basi venom, and you don’t stunbreak and dodge fast enough, then that’s on you and your lack of skill. you need to l2p.

If the thief waits and pops basi venom on you when he knows you don’t have any stunbreaks left, then major props to the thief for out-playing you. nothing you can do about it.

I swears just about every profession, minus the necromancer, has skills that allows them to disengage from fights when they need to, removing stealth means to remove all those porting and leaping/movement skills that is used for the same purpose.

A majority of thief stealth lasts only 3-4 seconds, just about 80% of the time you can spot them going stealth before they engage on you and if you get ganked, then you deserved it. The other 20% of the time its a mix of the thief actually playing good and you just not being vigilant when you should be.

It is very powerful. Except when it gets hard focused. Like all necromancers current weakness, they cannot handle 3-4 players smashing their faces.

I don’t know what you play, but every profession I play gets smashed in when I 1v3+

Though, Sig. Necro doesn’t have anyway to escape from fights, and kind of has to commit to every fight they enter. I think the only viable escape option Necro’s have is the Wurm.

In PvE/WvW, I can quickly [ctrl]+[skill] in say/party chat to tell players around me I’m about to drop it. An example would be [Shadow Refuge].

In PvP, the only way to display chat bubbles is in party and say chat. You don’t want to do it in say chat because that’s telling the other team what your doing and where. And party chat doesn’t work if you aren’t in a party with your entire team, and its currently impossible to join parties on a PvP map so its not like you can make a party like that.

I’m asking for Team Chat to also show up as a chat bubble, that way I can have a bit more group/combo plays when I’m solo queue’n.

And on a side note, I’d love it if when we leave a PvP match, we’re ported to the same spot in HotM that we entered from, instead of the Gate. I’m tired of getting tagged by Gold Spammers/Bots by the gate before I can move away. Or better yet, do something about Gold Spammers/Bots.

Would you troll with the mentor system?

I know they said that to discourage abuse/trolling with the mentor system, they removed in-game rewards. That’s because players that help other players are usually satisfied with just helping, which I agree, there are plenty of players that just like to help for the sake of helping (i.e. Me)

But the same could be the same for trolls/abusive players. They get a kick just from trolling other players, like leading them to the wrong end of a jumping puzzle or intentionally into a group of higher leveled mobs. There are plenty of players that will troll others and be satisfied without any rewards (i.e. Me on a boring day)

My question, how many of you guys would still use the mentoring system even knowing you won’t get a reward? Or how many friends do you know, who would abuse it regardless of in-game rewards?

I’m also fixing bugs on live for ALL professions this week and next which has kept me pretty busy.

I know this is totally not your decision to make, but shouldn’t bugfixing only need the game designers in an advisory/consulting role? In case something is best fixed by changing it entirely, so the designers have to come up with a new vision for the skill / item / whatever?

Usually you have the programmers (the ones who do the coding for the tools and the in-between coding for special cases) + the dedicated bugfix team do the bugfixing, while the deisgners work on the next batch of things to bugfix, no?

I have a feeling he meant his team is in charge of bugfixes this/next week.

His team of programmers and engineers probably come of with the fixes but its his job as a designer to say if the fix will go through or not. And it seems like for these 2 weeks, Robert is responsible for bugfixes, when it comes to bugfixes, Anet probably rotates their designers so there isn’t a dedicated designer to overseeing the fixes and they can focus primarily on creating/designing new content.

I find myself breathing easier knowing that a designer is overseeing bugfixes that could potentially break the game even more if it isn’t done right or affect other future projects in the works that not everyone in the company may be privy to.

Will we need to salvage asc armor/weapons?

Makes sense to me.

Salvage Exotics for Dark Matter to craft Ascended items.

Salvage Ascended for Dark Energy to craft Legendary items.

If the NEW Legendary items are worth it, then why not? I had a hard time salvaging some of my exotics for Dark Matter when it was introduced (not so much these days, but back when exotics were worth something it was hard). Now to craft these insane Legendary items, I’ll have to make the difficult choice of salvaging my ascended gear or not.

If you’ve really been playing the game from launch, you’d already know they do this very often. They’ll randomly put BL weapons on sale to up gem store purchase of BL keys. In the past, whenever they introduced a new skin they put an old skin on ‘sale’ for 3 tickets. They’ve even bought back old skins and put them on sale for 1 ticket. Sales are really at their whims, just like any other commercial industry. Don’t know why you would complain about discounted prices for anything, really.

Thieves have both, why is it so hard for you to imagine the Revenant with both?

Thieves have Initiative (which is the same as Revenant Energy Bar, in that skills don’t require cooldowns but Initative/Energy) and utility skills that have cooldowns.

I’m sure in the first couple of months that Revenant goes live, they’ll nerf energy regen massively like they did for the Thief’s Initiative regen.

I don’t understand why Tornado was ever a elite skill to begin with. Its so ridiculously useless.

They should just swap Tornado out with Ice Bow. Ice Bow, a real skill deserving of being an elite skill.

Wouldn’t even care about 2 conjure weapons being an elite skill, why? cuz they deserve that classification.

Who would win?

My money, the elementalist hands-down.

I can’t really see any Tempest builds that would give them more of an edge against a regular old Elementalist.

In fact, it seems you lose more when you spec into the Tempest. What do you give up? The Fire or Air-line, your dps? The Water or Earth-line, your survivability? The Arcane-line? The Tempest doesn’t add enough conditions or damage to really compare to Fire or Air. Water and Earth are so powerful against conditions without having to invest into a rune set. And you’re crazy if you want to compare Tempest to Arcane.

The more I look at it, the more it feels like the Tempest is just a throw-away elite so they can say that the core specializations are still relevant.

What do you guys think? Is there a Tempest build that can take on the tradition/meta elementalist in a 1 on 1?

Isn’t there already enough love for attunement swapping and/or being in an attunement?

Arcane Fury and Elemental Attunement are traits that give you and your allies powerful boons on attunement swapping.

Evasive Arcana, Elemental Contingency, Arance Resurrection, and Inscription are all traits that revolve around your active attunement.

All Tempests really get are a flip skill while being attuned. Right now, if I take Evasive Arcana and dodge in Water Attunement, then I get a heal. Would I really take a flip skill that does nearly the same thing, with a longer cast time, longer cool-down and generally less likely to use (because, who stays in water for more than 10 seconds?)? The majority of Overload skills aren’t worth using for the risk you take while channeling them.

The Tempest Overload/attunement flip skills seem rather weak and unappealing when you compare them to the Arcana specialization that we already have.

If both mainhand weapons are close range then it should be obvious we’d get a close range offhand. I’m puzzled why anyone would wish otherwise.

Scepter isn’t close range, its mid range.

Scepter is 0-900 range. Anything <600 range is pretty much close-range. 2/3 of the scepter is close-range.

Scepter is close-range.

Staff is 0-1200 range. Anything <600 range is pretty much close-range. 1/2 of the staff is close-range.

Staff can be called a close-range weapon too.

The only really mid/long-range weapons are ones with >1200 range attack (ie Ranger-longbow and Engineer-Mortar Kit)

[Sugg.] Siphon health on bleeding foes

The Revenant is getting a siphon health on Vulnerable foes and this got me thinking, what if they did this for the Necro’s Blood Magic spec.

Thematically, it fits perfectly with the whole vamperic theme where you suck blood for health.

With this added mechanic, they could even allow for more powerful siphons, say the more bleeds on the target the more health you siphon.

The spec update did make vamperic necro builds a little better, but I’m in the opinion it could use a little more love.

What happens if I buy gems?

Just buy the deluxe then, comes with everything the ultimate has minus the gems.

If you want to just give them more money because you think they deserve it, then give the gems away to friends (gift them some nice gem store items) and bam, you’re life long goal of earning gems via in-game gold won’t be affected.

This sounds like a passive/round-about-way of complaining about end-game content. Bore. If you’re bored of the game right now, take a break and come back when there’s more content.
