Sugg. Shout mechanics

The majority of shouts max out at the 600 range. This is awfully small, in my opinion, since the majority of shouts are supportive in nature. So I was thinking that increasing all shouts to 1200 would be ideal to promote more supportive builds and play-styles, but having shouts simply at 1200 would be a little over-powered.

My idea was more like:

  • Within 600 range, 100% effective
  • Within 600-900 range, 75% effective
  • Within 900-1200, 50% effective

This is so allies that are in the heart of all the action with the caster would still get the priority of boons but allies ranging or focusing on other targets/objectives still get some support as well.

This idea really came to mean when I think of people shouting in real life. A voice carries over some distance and loses sound the further it travels. Thought it’d be a really cool mechanic to add to the game.

This is really annoying for Mesmers and Minion-Necromancers.

But I don’t think its a bug, but an intentional mechanic like Illconceived Was Na said above. And only occurs between skills that aren’t available both terrestrial and underwater. If you do this with skills that are available in both terrains, the skills merely swap places.

This bug has been known by the community for ages now. I know I posted this same bug more than 2 months ago. I’m just guessing that Anet is too busy to fix it or can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.

I’d like to see shouts get larger range, and the farther you are away from the shout caster, the less/more effective the shout is. This is already a mechanic you see with the Warrior’s [Fear Me!]. And would love to see it with all shouts. I think it makes a lot of sense, but that’s my opinion. What do others think?

Be better to ask them to sell the x-pac in the 3 game modes.

  1. PvE only x-pac $30
  2. PvP only x-pac $30
  3. WvW only x-pac $30
  4. All the above $75

edit: imo, i wouldn’t really care what they do, i play all 3 game modes pretty evenly so regardless, i’d be buying the entire x-pac

You do know that the PvP and WvW stuff is coming for free for all players right?

Yes, many of the PvP and WvW features will be rolled out for all base game players. But that doesn’t mean they won’t roll out specific PvP/WvW exclusive x-pac content. So you can’t rule anything out, really. I mean, from a marketing/economic perspective, offering exclusive x-pac content for PvP/WvW players would be more economically beneficial.

But every dungeon in the game is basically the same. Stack around a corner and mash buttons.

Well, then DON’T stack in the corner and mash buttons. There is no law requiring you to do so.

And yes, stacking is the META but it isn’t the only way to do dungeons. If you hate stacking so much, LFG for a ‘no stacking’ party. Before stacking was meta, dungeons where pretty epic and hard. That stacking meta, broke dungeons, but that isn’t dev’s faults. Its not the dev’s fault for players liking the stacking meta over the other tactics you can use.

But I do see future dungeons having less stacking meta’s. But I seriously doubt they’ll take stacking away as a tactic in the game Stacking will always be one of the base/core methods of play in GW2. If you don’t like it, go play another game that doens’t allow for stacking, you’ll probably see the faults in that system too (trust me, there are faults)

I don’ think specializations where really meant to fix current dungeon mechanics. I think its worked to focus on new/upcoming dungeons.

If dev’s were going to change the current dungeons and their mechanics it would be in its only completely different release/post.

I’m more exited to see what new dungeons they’ll be rolling out, seeing how much they’ve learned from their previous ones.

Taunt...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

I only see taunt as something viable in dungeons/fractals if the duration is long, like 10-15 secs. It would really suck if its a 1-3 second condition, and after its off, the targets go away. If it is a short duration condition, will players have to time it out like they do for reflects? How will Taunt stack? Say player 1’s taunt is up and player 2 activates his taunt, will player 2’s taunt override player 1’s? or will player 1’s taunt finish then player 2’s taunt starts? How will taunt affect ranged targets? Will ranged targets run to you and then range attack or will they just swap targets and still attack from afar?

So many questions, hopefully someone can answer a few of them.

I’d have preferred an Aggro Counter instead. Where players would stack, individually, aggro counters on mobs and mobs would prioritize players with more stacks on them. They could implement it on all current skills and traits they have. And players would have to work out the best rotations to apply the most/constant aggro counters as well as dps.

Controlling all three sides of EOTM

in WvW

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

EotM isn’t WvW because the points you get from EotM have no value. The outcome of each 3 hour match is meaningless.

Because EotM’s points have no value, players can basically do whatever they want. If your on a map where one corner wants to control/defend and farm bags from all three keeps, then they can. If your map wants to avoid confrontations and just farm karma, they can. This behavior is accepted because the points at the end of each match doesn’t mean anything. Each EotM map changes depending on what the commander/players want ie Karma or bags. You’ll just have to find maps that are after the same thing as you.

This isn’t accepted in REAL WvW because the points matter. Your not just in WvW to get karma and farm bags, its about getting points and beating another world/server.

i worked hard for traits, and now...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

Whoa, the current trait system isn’t that hard. Besides the ones tied to bugged events or the ones in WvW, they are all pretty simple. The hardest part is probably the travel, being in one zone and then having to go to the other side of the world to get your next trait (which isn’t a big deal, thanks to all those nifty waypoints)

The biggest bummer is for all those players that paid for their traits. All that gold for traits because they used a bunch of tomes to level and didn’t explore. Paying for your traits is typically reserved for veteran players who have the extra gold/sp/tomes to level and create a new character.

The new system doesn’t seem like it’ll cheat you at all from your accomplishments now. You’re worrying over nothing. If you did spend all your skill points and gold on traits, that was your decision, live with it.

That 4 hour long AMA about the trait system was really good. They went into every profession and talked about every trait, and why they were going in that direction. Peters was completely focused on the chat and wrote down tons of suggestions from the stream chat. There was a point in the guardian discussion where he wanted the guard shield trait to be stronger and saw in chat ‘to apply aegis’ and loved it, wrote it down in his notes and we’ll probably be seeing that in the future. That’s just an example, during the entire 4 hour stream this was going on.

Major props to Jon Peters though, the chat was pretty volatile, he did a great job focusing only on the constructive chat. The volatile chat is probably why they don’t do these Dev and Player streams more often. Getting bombarded by volatile trolling comments live for four long hours is extremely harsh and I don’t want the dev’s or anyone to be subject to that.

Doesn’t the new system only break builds that branched into more than 3 trait lines? And Most of those are still viable because they streamlined all the traits you’d normally have to branch into 4-5 trait lines into 1-2 specializations?

Do new specilizations = build saver?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

That new trait system looks to be pretty easy to navigate. It’s only 3 clicks per specialization. I can’t really image a build saver option having less clicks than that. I can imagine if they kept the trait system the way it is now, needing or using a build template/saver function. Since it requires more than 30 clicks per build. But only needing 9-12 clicks to make a build from scratch and since they’re streamlining all the traits it’ll only be 3-5 clicks to change most of the current meta builds around. I can’t imagine a build saver/template saving more time than that.

During the AMA, dev’s said that the condensing of the traits would reduce the number of possible permutations to a little over 200 per profession. That’s not including the skill and weapon slots.

The condensing and limiting of options isn’t limiting players, sure the number of permutations decreased. BUT the number of playable builds increased by a large margin.

World Boss Proposal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

To be honest, I don’t quite get your problem anymore. Originally, I thought this was an issue with overcrowding with bosses on the fixed schedule.

Now, it feels like you want a way to farm the bosses not on the fixed schedule. Or farm both at once?

Or is it an issue with both? Overcrowding and wanting to farm all 27 events and not just the 13?

If it is overcrowding, you solution wouldn’t work. Say you have 3 different groups of players that are doing their own boss farm, with their own rotation/cycle. There’s a chance that these groups all go to the same boss at the same time. Say its Shadow Behemoth, they all coincidentally want to do Shadow Behemoth at the same time. They all enter Queensdale, Queensdale will still be overcrowded with 3 groups of players trying to do it because they’ll all enter the same server/IP.
You could say, they should just lower the player cap during these events. But it’d be impossible to determine which players are doing the event in the zone or just playing elsewhere.

I still stand by my suggestion. This time I’ll say add all 27 world events to the fixed schedule. Then add 2 more fixed schedule but in a different order. This way you’ll have 3 fixed schedules spawning 3 different bosses at one time. Players will know when bosses spawn. And players will have more options and freedom on choosing when and where to farm each boss. It won’t solve overcrowding, but it’ll solve lots of other issues. They could take it another step and have the fixed schedule repeat every 56 hours instead of 24, to give it a more random feeling during reset so players aren’t bored farming the same bosses in the same order everyday.

I don’t think there’s any real solution to overcrowding at world bosses, not with the mega server being a thing. Overcrowding is kind of the objective with mega servers.

They could make all the world bosses be able to trigger as an instance as well as being open world, semi-dynamic events. That way, a guild/squad could trigger them and pull that guild/squad into that instance to do the boss.

This game has 27 World Boss events, only 13 of them are on the fixed schedule.

But you noticed that there is an essential difference between my proposal and the bosses not on fixed schedule.

The bosses not on fixed schedule start whenever the server likes to start them and no player knows when this will happen.
The bosses in my proposal start whenever the player want to start them

There’s still that cooldown after a player starts them. If a group of players enters the map to do the boss, but doesn’t know how long the wait is for the boss and no one else on the map knows. Do they just stand there and spam the trigger function for 10+ minutes? Do they move on? Either way, there will be rage.

[Suggestion] Let us buy fractal weapons.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

I like the idea of these being crafted. I’m not so keen on the idea to make them like the backpieces though – with different looks at different tiers.

I’d say make them semi-legendary. Sort of like mystic forge tier, but crafted.

Or there’s another thought. Maybe make them available via the forge, using the mats that drop at the higher tiers, maybe with orichalcum/ancient wood parts used for that specific weapon. Eg for a sword:

-10 orichalcum hilts
-10 orichalcum sword blades
-some Shards of mists essence (maybe 5 or 10. I’m not sure how hard these are to get, but I know you can craft them with the lower tiers. Having a higher amount than suggested might be desirable.)
-gift of ascension

Isn’t this kind of the same as the fractal capacitor back-piece? When he mentioned the back-piece, I was thinking, you buy the base/rare version of the weapon you want via pristine/relics. Then use a a mystic forge recipe with mist globs, etc to upgrade into the exotic versions with the particle aura. And then another recipe to upgrade it again for the trailing effect. Fractal weapons are rare and extremely desirable, it makes sense to tier them off for crafting like they did with capacitors and mawdrey.

They could even make it so you could upgrade your exotic fractal weapon to ascended versions of it too. But that’s the insomnia kicking in right now.

[Suggestion] Let us buy fractal weapons.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

It might even be cool if they approach fractal weapons in a similar manner to how they approached capacitors, i.e. having a simple, base version that you buy with pristine relics, and then having upgraded versions that you have to make using gifts of ascension and other ingredients in the forge (like the globs and such that we use for capacitors, some of which can only be gotten in higher level fractals). The base versions would just be simple with no moving parts or particle effects, and the upgraded versions could have the moving parts, the particle effects and perhaps even glow effects added in each successive upgrade, kinda like the stages the capacitor goes through.

This is it. This has to be it. If this is not it, then I don’t know left from right anymore.
I particularly like the idea of having to upgrade them several times too get their full visual effects.
Pristine Relics are pretty useless at the moment, I don’t bother saving them anymore. Its a double-click and out of my mind kind of thing these days.

Video games in general are pretty ‘competitive’. And transversely, video gamers are also pretty ‘competitive’. I’m using the word ‘competitive’ very loosely here.

Just because the game doesn’t have a lot of competitive activities in PvE, doesn’t mean you won’t find competitive players in there. These ‘competitive’ PvE players, or ‘veteran players’, specifically advertises and looks for other ‘competitive’/‘veteran’ players. They reserve a small right to kitten on new players who enter their ‘exp’ LFGs.

Just like how, casual players who advertise for other casual players can call out kitteny competitive/veteran players that enter their LFGs.

Don’t force other players to play the way you want them to. Like minded players will attract other like minded players. Simple.

Event incentives

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

Do you have any idea how insanely EASY it is to get credit for an event? How easy it is to get gold credit with a zerg? World bosses are an example, you get enough hits in and then go afk, and chances are, you’ll still get credit and with that the loot/gold/exp/karma.

This is why gold drops from events are so low. 1-4 silver for auto-attacking a champion/legendary for like 1-2 mins sound about right. Running around tagging 1-3 mobs in an event and moving on to the next would give me credit and with that gold for multiple events in a map when they are completed/failed by other players.

Anet has done a reasonable job on providing new loot tables for new events that doesn’t offset the games economy. Like those you see in Dry Top and Silverwastes. The dev’s are definitely going in the right direction, and we can expect more in HoT.

They dropped that gold amount several times since launch, in order to work out the games economy. Increasing gold drops for base game events would being going backwards and just doesn’t make much sense in my opinion and could really do a number on the games inflation.

ChoChoBo.6503

This game has 27 World Boss events, only 13 of them are on the fixed schedule.

If you take all the world bosses off the fixed schedule, you’ll get more maps like in Orr, not maps like Dredge. More players complaining about not knowing when the event was last spawned and complaining about how they have to wait in the map and not being able to do anything else until they get that boss done. Which is why they put, nearly, half the bosses on a fixed schedule.

It doesn’t take much time to farm the fixed schedule, only a little over 2 hours to hit every boss (minus the hardcore bosses).

I think adding another fixed schedule would be a better solution to the stress to the servers. So at any 1 time, there’s 2-3 world bosses anywhere, reducing server stress you’d see on any one boss.

I know your pain. But making them purchasable via pristine relics wouldn’t be the way to go. You’d get tons of noobs farming level 1-9 and the daily fractal for pristine relics. Fractal weapons are so awesome because they are so hard to get.

I’d rather them make fractal weapons craftable. Where the materials to craft them can only be farmed in the higher level fractals, so they players have to at least invested in some AR. I personally would like farming for tons of mats than farming for rng. At least then I’ll feel like I’m getting closer to my goal.

Perma-Rooting Broken?

in WvW

Posted by: ChoChoBo.6503

ChoChoBo.6503

So I’m seeing this a lot. Players spam immobilizing skills and stack its duration. The game allows for the first 3 immobilizes to stack its duration, which isn’t so bad, its normally 3-6 seconds. But groups are spamming them right after one another, so once the first stack of immobilize is done, a second burst of it applies. And if you are unlucky, you’ll be rooted for upwards of 20+ seconds. There is no surviving that.

Should immobilizes get a debuff like revealed is for stealth? Where after you are done with 1 immobilize burst, you can’t be rooted for 1-2 seconds.

Or do you guys not feel that perma-immobilizes aren’t broken and should be allowed for groups who time their immobilizes well like mesmer veils? ‘Immo. 1 go, Immo. 2 go’

I also see this a fair bit in PvP, but when I see 2 players stacking immobilizes for 15+ seconds, I’m more astonished, amazed and impressed than I am thinking it’s broken.

So I recently had a topic merged with an already preexisting topic in the bug section. Which isn’t really a problem, I like knowing that this was a recognized problem that other players are experiencing.

But it was merged with a 2 year old topic.

I have an extremely difficult time imagining that the same bug existed for two years. And a harder time imagining its gone unfixed.

I could imagine that the original cause of the bug was fixed and a new bug has appeared and started causing the same issue.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to close older topics and merge new topics with ones that could be more relevant?

My example refers to the guild chat bug. I have a hard time imaging the reason for the bug from 2 years ago is the same one that’s occurring now.

I’ve had a total of 3 matches in the past 2 days where there will be a troll.

  • He/She will go to undefended nodes and not finish captures
  • Simply watch on the side while other team captures a node (possibly afk?)
  • Down players and let them revive themselves
  • Just aimlessly chat and argue in team/map chat

Am I the only one experiencing this? are there more trolls now? Is it because of the sale? Did players create cheap alt. accounts to troll in PvP?

I just want to know if I’m the only one experiencing this. It was just 3 times, but I feel like its more than enough for me to want to ask the community.

  1. - You are probably not understanding when a player is choosing to neutralize and move, rather than stand and cap. Sometimes it is better to neutralize and get back to a fight than it is to stand and cap.
  1. - Sometimes if a player knows he will not be able to defend a node against 2 or more players, he will abandon the cap and run around the node blocking and evading to draw numbers so that it is easier for your team on two other points.
Example: Legacy Of Foefire – A good cele/rifle engi is assaulted at far point by a d/d ele and a hambow. He tries his best to defend the node but knows that if he sits on it he will die so he toolkit blocks and super speeds away to run around and heal before going back to the node. He may even start hitting their gate in hopes that the two opponents come over to him rather than pour in to mid. What he is trying to do is effectively allow YOUR team a 4v3 “in your favor” and home and mid, while he distracts two up near their gates, even if the far point is the enemy color.
  1. - Downing players off-point, letting them revive a bit and then DPSing them back in to a 20-30% health range is just an old tactic to deny players re-spawns. It isn’t really trolling it’s just part of conquest.
  1. - Peope argue and spew vomit in /m chat or /t chat for a few reasons:
    - They are frustrated at their team losing “it may or may not be their own fault”
    - They are frustrated at stupid rotation choices “even while winning”
    - They are frustrated when ill-informed players toss critique

Help avoid the above kitten by never speaking to them unless you are 100% sure that you know exactly what you are talking about and do so in a constructive way.

  1. It was at the beginning of the match, he said he’d get home, starts it, then runs of and stares it mid from above, while there’s a 2v3 going. Doesn’t range support and only talks about how we need to ’work harder.
  2. The guy made no effort to avoid combat, if he was attacked, he’d let himself get downed and stomped.
  3. If he, by some work of gawd, managed to down an enemy he wouldn’t stomp them, even if they downed on point.
  4. His arguments were vulgar and pointless, half of it was about Obama. And the other half was about why everyone can’t just get along. Nothing to contribute to the match.

I know about neutralizing points, about maximizing downed states, I know the importance of choosing when and where to fight, and I respect players that know when its time to disengage and regroup.

This was none of that.

He was just a plain troll. It was pretty obvious he knew how to play but chose not to contribute to the match.

Every player who obviously does this intentionally, I just block and move on. So far I’ve blocked 5 players. This was just a post to see if anyone else was seeing a rise in trolling PvP players.

In Diessa Plateau, there is a reknown heart [Assist the Ash Legion].

On a full map, the Night Warband will almost always have control of Incendio Templum. This makes it nearly impossible to complete the reknown heart, unless you wait every 10 minutes to do the defense or try and convince all the players on the map to let the defense fail. Which is somewhat hard to do, considering how easy it is to complete the defense.

I recommend a secondary way to complete the reknown heart while the Night Warband has control, like ‘train with the patrols’. And making the defense event much more difficult than it is now.

When you equip a Meditation utility skill and hover over the skill in your skill bar, it doesn’t show the skill’s details and name, only shows the damage/boon stats.

If you’re having troubles getting guild chat to work after patching.

Go into contacts, ‘y’. Then turn yourself ‘invisible’ and then ‘available’.

Guild chat should work after that.

Block spammers, you won’t see their emotes anymore.

Suggestion: Ability to see locked skins.

You can already see all the locked skins and preview them.

Go to any bank and then the wardrobe tab. You’ll be able to see and preview all skins, even ones you haven’t unlocked.

  1. Turn off auto-attack on your skill bar.
  2. Change up the way your TAB/target-cycling button in config/buttons to target closest target
  3. Now its a matter of position and targeting, move to the target then TAB/cycle to it/target-it. and Hit 1. This will move/turn your character to your target regardless of which way you are facing, so its just a matter of moving behind/side-ways.

Several questions from a new player

Alright. To clarify some of your answers;
1. What I mean is game time. In WoW, the time of day is based on what time it is of the server. So if it’s 2am server time, it’s night.

4. Ah. I see it’s like WoW, but better. Excellent. But that brings up another question. In WoW, your gear (armor) takes damage through wear. Does it also do this in GW2?

6. Basically, during the tutorial quests, I was able to see what NPCs were saying in my chat window(ex: An NPC says “hi”, it showed up in my chat window). Now I’m not seeing it anymore, as I did something and I don’t know what.

7. I mean crafting professions (Armorsmith, etc…). Sorry for the confusion.

GW2 Day/Night is every 2hrs. 5m Dawn > 70m Day > 5m Dusk > 40m Night. This is because there are different aesthetics/buffs/sigils/runes that work during day/night.

Armor is only damaged when you die completely, so if you’re downed and managed to rally you won’t need to repair your armor. There is a Downed Penalty for constant downs/deaths, if you don’t wait long enough between downs you’ll die faster. Its shown as an arrow next to your HP bar, it’ll go from grey > yellow > red > insta-death.

There’s a gear in the right corner of your chat, click it to toggle the NPC dialogue back on, you can create a new chat tab that only shows NPC dialogue so you can go back to it later.

Crafting: there are 3 weapon crafting professions, 3 armor crafting professions, 1 accessory profession and 1 cooking/buff profession. You’ll have to look up weapon you want and craft it. Armor is divided into 3: heavy/medium/light, pick the one your profession uses (rangers use medium). You can only have 2 active crafts at once, but u can reassign them and not lose that craft’s level/progress (you can also use gems to have more active professions)

Some newbie questions

  1. Mobs don’t spawn quickly, your just killing them too slowly. MMOs respawn rates are determined by population, games will have mobs spwan faster so players aren’t always kill-stealing.
  2. Combat speed is the actual speed you’re meant to experiencing the game. Non-combat speed is a luxury they gave us players to let us move around and map faster.
  3. You can click the purple ‘Daily’ bar to minimize/compact the dailies list. But yes, the only way to remove them is to actually do 3 of them, or activate a watch-list.
  4. There isn’t a ‘mark as junk’ but there is such a thing as Junk Bags that move all your junk in that slot.

Should just be happy that you got anything that’s not a spoon or rune.

Settler’s aren’t so bad on a regen/condition warrior. And just cause condition warriors aren’t the meta, doesn’t mean they aren’t a thing or not good.

But they would be overpowered on guardians so you could just use it on your warrior now, and move it on to another character later.

Anyone else not get excited about expansions?

I’ve been playing GW2 consistently for nearly 1.5 years now. I’ve have 13 level 80s and 3 toons with map completion. The expansion is hyped for veteran GW2 players, who are looking for new areas to explore because they’ve already explored all of the base maps (and that’s why they don’t like the current maps) and new professions to play after mastering all of them. If you’re not a veteran GW2 player, then its understandable that you’re not as hyped for it as others because you still find much of the base game exciting and fun, which you should because it is fun.

This is very much a QoL thread, which are normally addressed in feature patch updates which are different from new content updates like living world story and the upcoming HoT expansion. Its very likely there will be a feature patch/QoL update before or alongside the expansion. But I don’t think HoT will specifically address QoL on its own.
