Ranger is awesome in GvG as Ward will be showing you all soon (is there a schedule for matches)? I have at least half a dozen ‘plays’ involving ranger and I’ve been working closely with some of their team mates.
Ranger is synonymous with harassment. To ranger is to throw nature’s wrath upon the enemy, laughing at their futile resistance to Nature’s Erosion.

I was only half serious. People! Lighten up!
I was missing Doldenvan Passage.
It seems the tricky ones are the ones without any POIs, waypoints, or SP in them. As opposed to being on the border, this one is inside the middle of wayfarer foothills. I hope that helps someone out there.
I remember those days, young padawan. Fear not the dark.
Who are you going to choose? Kiel or Gnashblade? Why?
My thoughts (lore masters, feel free to rebut):
Do you feel Kiel is a bit naive? Why is she being promoted so fast? I fear someone is using her. Gnashblade may be a Charr and a jerk but he’s OUR jerk. And he’s been around long enough to know the kinds of tricks villains pull. Yet, Gnashblade has made mistakes and Kiel is seemingly invulnerable. Either way, it seems we’re in for a heap of trouble.

I realize this is somewhat of a troll thread, but I would still like to point out how easy it is to kill the destroyer in one try with an optimized set up (even with 4 people its easy), so with a ranger it isn’t all that impressive.
It’s not really a troll thread. The point of the video is that Rangers aren’t as bad as people seem to think they are.
…Brazil…you do this after I stop playing hardcore? You, sir, are…sigh…I admit. Hilarious. T_T
The other funny thing about this thread is that it shows how the population of players is shifting to a younger age. When this game was launched EVERYONE loved JPs. They were just the coolest thing. I bet that’s because it was mostly older gamers (25 to 35) who had the disposable income to play on headstart. Older gamers grew up with platformers.
Now we have these young whippersnappers whose sad history of gaming includes EA sports titles and Call of Duty. You kids just don’t understand!
Lol well ya he didn’t look around but this question is asked often enough that ANET might want to consider tossing in “helpful hint”
How?
Genuine question. How can they make it any more obvious than it is?
I’m not sure. But I see this thread multiple times every day. A lot of people are missing something :/
I really, really hope the devs realize that this is a too vocal, but very small community of complainers, and that the rest of us lurkers or even non-forum dwellers really adore their bravery at breaking MMO conventions.
And where do you get this from ? how do you know how many peeps like or dislike anything in gw2?
If anything going by this thread alone, most want the sequel to gw1 not the sequel to ( insert random Nintendo platformer ).
I bet the devs know what content is being played. You don’t know. I don’t know, but they do. And since this is the content they’re creating, one would think that it’s popular. Otherwise why bother?
But you forget one thing, jumping is forced upon us, from completing a zone to fracts, to just about all jumping in gw2.
Nothing IS forced on you. YOU chose to play this game and you knew or had ample opportunity to find out what the game was about. Your simply forced upon your self to complete things in effect YOU are your worst enemy.
Not true tbh i purchased gw2 as a sequel to gw1 marketed as being focused on dynamic events and living story, like many others in gw1 we waited for the sequel to our fav game with baited breath.
So your saying you blindly buy things with out looking up any info on it and viewing no videos? I think your doing your self a great disservices if you cant look up info on things before you buy them video games is one thing but if you do this for everything you buy i think your in for a lot more problems then missing out on a few competition in a GAME.
I waited years for this game, the sequel to gw1 a game without jumping, sure i knew we could jump in gw2, you can jump in for example wow too, just the full game doesn’t evolve around jumping, so if i dont want excluded from just about everything in gw2 im forced to jump to be involved.
Meh, it’s a combat skill game. You jump! :p
Jski is right. Take charge of your life. If you want an achievement then persevere. If you don’t, it’s Ok. You will live.
So as some hate jumping, you sugestion is to avoid all jumping? so no fracts, no completion of zones, no, gosh i could go on all day :P.
No dude I’m saying if sky crystal achieve is too much if a pain in the kitten , then don’t do it.
Life will go on
I honestly don’t know how anyone complains about this content (just in general). This game is so baller. There was a guy whining about too many zenith skins taking up bank slots yesterday _ You guys don’t even know!
Lol well ya he didn’t look around but this question is asked often enough that ANET might want to consider tossing in “helpful hint” or anything that would calm MMO gamer nerves.
Anyone craft a piece yet? I think I’ll make the chest first.

The best Spirit Ranger NA wins almost every 1 v 1 with full rabid gear. He said this when he duels, “I just spam skills :p.” I also think it’s not that hard to use.
Lol he’s busting your Chopps I think
Well, GW2 is a AAA title with cool elements for everyone. It’s also a skill game and you will have to work at it to perform in any area: pve, jp, wvw, and pvp.
Go to craigsted. Poor Braham
Out of curiosity why didn’t you just go full berserker instead of Valk? You have zero damage reflection…..just a bit of a higher health pool. So you have zero damage resistance when in melee combat with greatsword. In WvW this would be squishy as your trying to avoid burst damage. Even the most skilled player is going to take a hit or two. The train of thought is to get them down first (Berserker) or add some toughness with Knight’s armor. I really like the build though. Just doesn’t seem to be forgiving in regards to damage reflection.
He only needs crit damage. He is trying to 1 shot and then survive. You see, remember your minor traits! Precise strike is a guaranteed crit. Sigil of intelligence is a gauranteed crit.
Burnfall: he’s trolling us
I have a dry sense of humor. Karma isn’t worth anything! That’s the joke. Anyways, thanks bababu. You rock!
I daresay many professions—including ranger and ele—can be just as slippery. :p L2P
Yo, jub, wait until the next patch hits. You’ll get more eyes on reddit that way. Then post it. It’s not going anywhere!!! Or post it now to stop someone from getting all that karma—you’re choice!
Lol what do you think babs?

Indeed, ranger DPS is the new meta.

I just nuked a thief with a zerk signet ranger. No ranger fears a thief.
This just made me laugh. No, just no. I’m sorry. I love ranger but it stands no chance against even a semi-conscious thief. When I come across zerk rangers I can tank most of their damage on my thief. When I see rangers I just toss radiation field on them so they do even less damage than normal to my already tanky thief build and the poison stops a lot of their insane healing. The blinds protect me as well, and I still do enough damage to tear them a new anus in seconds. And rarely ever play my thief, I really dislike the class so I barely play it, it’s not like i’m a pro thief or anything. I’ll never understand why Anet nerfed Rangers. The pets weren’t that great to begin with, was totally unneccesary.
23k maul build thread on ranger forums right now. Again, I nuked a thief. There was no fight. There was a single maul and it was over.
1 shot. With ranger. >:)
You may love ranger, but you don’t know ranger. (i have 2200 hours on ranger, every stat set available for wvw from dungeon runs and gold; high level FOTM player; 10,000 wvw kills; friends with some of the best ranger players around—they teach me so much! There’s so much you don’t know about my profession!)
On the contrary, I, sir, laugh at you. Especially for the notion that rangers are weak or pets are unnecessary. You know what’s unnecessary? Your foolish opinion!

Eat your heart out, thieves.

Well,’after seeing this, I ran a similar build with signet of the beastmaster. My friend and I blew up a camp with a necro in it, that was fun. Then I blew up a thief. I think he probably crapped himself when I mauled him for a good chunk of life. Fun stuff, thanks for sharing!
What I found was that while you do great damage, there are no easy outs (at least if you’re alone). You lose that slipperiness of the regen builds. It is still lots of fun. Whenever we’re outmanned, I run this build. No repair costs!
I just nuked a thief with a zerk signet ranger. No ranger fears a thief.
Frost spirit has no internal cooldown despite the tooltip. I dunno if that’s been mentioned but it’s relevant because 10% bonus hit on 10s cooldown sucks. That’s not how it works. It’s a 7% DPS increase with the trait, flat increase for party.
I think I ran with you once in the molten weapons facility. You died a lot.
Anyway, thanks? I guess.
I doubt it. Don’t you have physics homework, Quark?
Imagine the QQ if you actually had to be good at spvp to get a legendary. Guys farming for legendary weapons: fight! You get more badges fighting than jumping. Wvw is watered down pvp and most people are easily defeated if you are more practiced (which you should be if you’re serious enough to get the ultimate shiny).

You will never change my mind.

Whisper me in game on Saturday, or add me as a friend now and we can find a mutual time.
Well, maybe on first glance this thread should be removed but it’s more of a question directed at ANET, although, yes, I did ask to spur discussion as well.
By the way: ladders? Very cool idea. Maybe some issues with implementation (rapid building then mesmer port might be considered OP) but still neat in concept.
You could go as far as to say that a base should be literally built from scratch. Imagine a wvw map that is just basically open with camps and you actually have to physically build a tower or keep? That idea might be sort of out there but it’s fun to think about.
I was wondering if ANET has any plans to introduce any new siege objects in the future. I’m guessing they’ve already thought of this stuff, but I’ve been wondering so I thought I’d bring it up.
Basically, I can see objects like walls being very useful and interesting—moving fights away from doors.
Players might wall off ramps leading up to towers or even create outposts and forts in the open to act as a first line of defense (sure, there’s the argument that there’s no benefit to guarding a tower this way because its inefficient—I know this—I only ask you to entertain the idea). Then, of course, there’s the possibility of using walls offensively to help the attacker’s dig in and protect their own siege assets.
This also motivates the idea of a small “Outpost” siege object. This would be much like the 2-level wooden “fort” type structures you see bandits use in Kryta. It would allow players to attack over the walls they place on the ground, giving them the advantage.
These would be destructible objects, just like normal siege. Their cost and health levels would be appropriate for their function. Although it’s hard to think of a fair health for walls (short thought will reveal why). Perhaps walls should simply be invulnerable for a short time? Or maybe a new object would be “Trench” that is an unblockable cripple? With those ideas you might scrap the outpost altogether and simply shorten the wall height.
There’s a lot to discuss on this topic.
Do you have ideas for new siege? Would this take WvW in an interesting direction? Thanks for reading, let me know what’s on your mind.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
:) thanks aydenstar—I’ll still be around!!! Just a changing of priorities. All this great content is making me question this change, no doubt, but it’s something I have to do because when you put this much into something like I have— well, real life moves on without you. One thing gw2 living story teach us is that change happens and we have to accept it. That’s an idea you mature into as you grow up, kids. Especially if you’re in college: get off this game and do your homework. Now!
Gibson, I cannot agree more. Honestly, these people who say “I use one build everywhere” are likely using builds that perform below average in both dungeon and wvw. By the way, I have nearly every stat set for my ranger. Why? Because I love being able to customize my builds for whatever fight I’m facing whenever I want.
Indeed, the next gear tier scares the kitten out of me.
Have any of you guys tried my mighty ranger build? Right? You’re all PvE’ers, right? Maybe you just aren’t playing ranger optimally?
Very few people are ever going to use your build. Many of us play the ranger specifically for bows (they’re iconic); your build doesn’t have any because both bows are bad. Until bows are good, their will be QQ. Ontop of that, you are running some serious might sharing with the pet and in many situations, the pet simply isnt going to live (or will need to be swapped, losing all the might) in fractals for that to be reasonable. Literally any other class brings more to the group right now than rangers.
But yeah, mostly bows.
You can use bows with my build, it’s your choice. Sorry I have a preference for no bows…sorry I like to stack might and reflect. Longbow is great for many encounters though and I switch to it often. You should watch me play once to get a feel for how to play ranger in dungeon.
Ultimately, I believe a player is a fool if they are serious about ranger in dungeons and won’t try new builds. It’s odd to say “no one will ever” because I don’t think like that. Seriously, if you don’t try this build but want to continue kittening and moaning be my guest. You won’t be helping your party and you’ll be at 1500 range at the wrong time and your party will hate you. That’s just how it is, regardless of your idealistic notion of bows.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Have any of you guys tried my mighty ranger build? Right? You’re all PvE’ers, right? Maybe you just aren’t playing ranger optimally?
Pvper here. And we’ve discussed this before Chopps, it’s not that we aren’t viable, it’s that everyone is a better choice than us. We’re like the Lone Wolves. We’re only good for soloing. We don’t share, don’t have a niche, and everyone does it better.
Everyone is not better at dungeons than me with ranger I can tell you that for a fact. Ranger, by the way, stacks vulnerability easily, reflects, gives DPS buffs and protection to the team, aoe condition removal, water field, and damage/tank with pet while resurrecting. Ranger gets a long stability that’s very useful, along with a fire field and permanent 25 might on pet.
I. Disagree. You, sir, need practice. If you don’t like ranger in dungeon, say so, but to say any classes are anything but marginally better or worse is to lie. There’s a huge skill factor none of the people in your camp take into account either.
I could play warrior right now in dungeon and I would do awful. “Crit dmg not in the precision line? What the hell…warrior sucks” because I know nothing about warrior. :p

Background: I don’t have much time to gw2 hardcore anymore.
So before I move on to other priorities in life, I want to help some of you guys.
Over the last few months I’ve developed a lot of relationships here. I’m a “say it like it is” kind of guy so I tend to be harsh. I’ve told people to learn to play or that maybe they just suck. No one needs that and I apologize (actually I just did this about 1 minute ago hehe sorry OP). So I’ve made and broken many relationships.
I want to give back so here’s how: I am willing to stream FOTM 48 runs, or do any dungeon of your choice with you. The goal is to show how I perform and to encourage others to put more trust in the ranger profession.
Please reply to this thread, I’m willing to play in game with anyone who struggles and needs help with ranger. Also, I’m in Prysin’s ranger guild. Join that and interact with other talented players on this forum.
You all have been great and when I do peel myself away, I’m going to miss you. I’ll miss the debates, the podcasts, watching the QQ develop on the forums—all that stuff. Thanks for sticking it out: you’re all still here! And playing ranger! That itself is aassive accomplishment since I love pets and I love nature themes, it’s so cool seeing others like me who don’t want to play their second favorite in a dungeon just because Strife said so.
You guys rock.
Have any of you guys tried my mighty ranger build? Right? You’re all PvE’ers, right? Maybe you just aren’t playing ranger optimally?
I’m having fun grinding out new skins and stuff. I’m a bit on the fence with ascended armor but I wouldn’t miss it if they decided to scrap it. I’m working on getting every stat combo though so that would really put a damper on my goals with gw2.
“No block skill”
Greatsword has counterattack block, offhand axe has reflect—shows how little you know about ranger, OP. Ranger is a high skill ceiling class in dungeons. I have 2000 hours and 7000 achievent points. What irks me is people like you (noobs) saying ranger sucks in dungeons. You perpetuate a uselss myth. Look at yourself. Maybe you are the one who sucks. Be kitten yourself; stop blaming it on the devs. All I see is baseless QQ:
1) Spirits health has been buffed by 25% once and then by 60% AND THEN they buffed them further by combining two spirit traits and making it one adept trait. Spirits are fixed in terms of living long enough for buffs. I use them in FOTM 48 on krait, mobs in Ascalon city, and anywhere else there isn’t massive aoe (I switch to signets during AoE heavy parts). You can argue for better spirits like Jin does but you can’t sit here and tell me they instantly die all the time. That’s bollocks.
2) “80% spells in pets” not even close dude, wayyyy off
3) COMPLAINING ABOUT RANGER HEALING???? Are you serious? Ranger has the best heals in the game dude! What the hell???
4) WvW no escape – I outrun entire zergs with greatsword, shared anguish, empathic bond, and healing spring as well as soft landing, if I want. Ranger is likely the most sliperry of all classes, again everyone agrees with this and it shows your lack of knowledge.
TL:DR
New player dies a lot and blames it on the devs. Nothing to see here, move allng
If you’re not behind the boss melee’ing the crap out of him with ranger, you’re doing it wrong. When he aggros you, Hornet’s Stike leap away. Throw torch, Monarch’s Leap, and Serpent’s strike. You are again behind the boss. TEAR HIM APART
You should play FOTM with me sometime.
Interesting. Numbers would change a bit if you used optimal skill “rotation” – GS and LB for ranger would be better, but also other classes would benefit on some weapons. Also, I takie it those numbers are without pet? (they are close to what I remmber from my tests). If so, adding cat (whos AA didn’t get nerf!) would boost ranger nicely.
Still, I love when ppl actually do something and not just “my dmg seems lower than yday, they ninja nerfed me by 9000%!”Also, thing to remember: there is no auto attack in GW2. It is just another skill, that has no CD and is set on auto cast by default – you can mark any other skill to be “AA”.
Sorry but yes the time to kill would decrease if you used skills on a ranger, but that would mean using 100b on the warrior. I don’t really think you want that in your comparison. It would just make it painfully obvious how far behind rangers are.
To go ahead and preempt the whole “you are just a complaining ranger” my main is actually guardian. You are welcome to check my posts in that forum. My second two would be warrior, and thief. I can’t even bring myself to finish my ranger.
This will probably kitten people off in this forum but to me rangers are just free bags right now. Oh and as a nonzerker guardian my AA will crit for a quarter of your life easily. Not that I care because if you ever get get a chance to AA then you are doing something wrong.
I play ranger. 99.99% of the encounters I have in wvw where I’m not vastly outnumbered I get the “W”. You should practice more at gw2, especially if you beat rangers on your guardian. The only way I see that happen in Tier 1 is if the guardian can hammer the ranger off a cliff. That’s literally his only chance…clearly I play too much gw2.
But why? How? How can you win with guardian and how can I win with ranger? I’ve said it all along: gw2 is a SKILL GAME. Recenty, I beat durzlla’s ele with my ranger. What’s that mean? That ranger always beats ele? No! This isn’t tic tac toe.
Just because you beat a profession a lot in wvw is no indication of balance. You just face a lot of bad rangers.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
when we talk about inflation in a game and how to keep it under control, i really think we got a problem
Dude it’s basically half of what you need for a new pink amulet. Are we seriously complaining about inflation in the Badges of Honor market? _
Ya the speed of the pull needs help; it’s easy to dodge in pvp. I like target someone who’s down though and pulling all their friends trying to rez. Also, offhand axe rocks in dungeons and pve.
What are the current pve and pvp splits? I ask this because DPS will be different because of pve and pvp splits not to mention nourishment. Ultimately, many will want to know how this translates to pve.
Another flaw in just simply basing decisions on these numbers is how the weapon is used. For example, axe ricochets so it’s time in a mob of two or three will look much better. This is similar to how you did two separate tests for longbow.
Finally, I think the pet should be involved. Spreadsheets like this not only make axe look bad, it makes ranger look bad. “ZOMG WARRIOR DEEEEEEPS IS TWICE THE RANGER” because no one actually analyzes data. That’s for noobs. Everyone knows warriors are most dps—twice rangers, it’s right there in the spreadsheet. :p
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Sword torch isn’t a combo that would do good as a zerker. It has a lot of condition damage which aren’t affected by zerker stats.
I guess longbow would benefit more than many others because it’s all physical.
I disagree because torch is used to stack might/leap auras, however, I will not hesistate to say torch does great damage still with zerker stats. Try it, you won’t be disappointed. After all, you’re a ranger—would you really enter a dungeon without a torch?
Crossed horse I wouldn’t pay 5 silver for belchers bluff. I have real goals to achieve in gw2 besides a ridiculous drinking game you all are having a brain hemorrhage over. Your analogy is wrong too. No one knew the price floor anet would set is 100 gold so your point is irrelevant. Cry all day long, watch, ANET won’t ban anyone because they’re sensible NOT because they’re lazy, weak, or don’t care.
