Good to see almost everyone is negative about their crappy ‘waste of new content’ jumping puzzles and only a couple of fanboys who will consider anything delivered by anet as 2nd coming of jesus appreciating their jumping puzzles. Hopefully they see this thread and start delivering the rpg element of this game instead of yet another mini this and that… How is it that in close to a year we received only one significant thing, fractals? Stop adding goofy crap and give me the reason to log in!!! adding a flute to gem store isn’t one…
I tend to agree. I stopped playing for the better part of 5 months…came back a few weeks ago…started to enjoy the Four Winds content right up until the jumping nighmare…and then got hit with a “Coming Up in 2013” announcement that looked pretty good until you see the Ascended Gear grind buried in it.
Back to what I was doing. Maybe in a year, ArenaNet, if you’ve figured it out yet.
Of course, it’s starting to look like I’ll have simply missed a bunch of temporary, vapid content, and be so far behind on the tier gear and achievement grinds that there’ll be no point in logging in then, either.
(edited by Chuo.4238)
please stop relating everything to wow.
Seems the devs do (tier gear). No reason why players shouldn’t worry that they’re going to do other WoW things.
Legendaries are tacky and garish. Wouldn’t surprise me to see it in the new Ascended shoulder pads. WoW did it, so clearly that’s what everyone wants, right?
I’m afraid of that kind of crap, too.
They can’t even unscrew the Guild Interface. I’d be amazed to see Guild Halls in time for this game to still be relevant. Especially at the rate it’s going since this month’s announcement.
That said – Guild Halls would sure be nice. But since the multiple-guild repping system has fairly well destroyed most guild cohesiveness, I have to wonder if they’d really matter.
I’d rather see a guild/alliance system implemented like in GW, being able to only join one guild at a time, and, for the love of all, Guild vs Guild.
Both numbers are far, far less than my Guild Wars tallies
Why dont they just give all level one players a full set of ascended gear the moment they log in? Why dont they just give everyone a free legendary? Why dont they just give out thousands of gold and gems for free and make everything super easy?
Everything is time gated in this game, buying it with Karma and Dungeon Tokens is STILL time gated! You still need to get the Karma and Dungeon Tokens in the first place!
Some people will not be happy unless everything is given to them for free… sigh.
And I’m not asking for it to be free. I’m asking for it to be as accessible as the exotic gear. It’s a gear tier in a casual game after all.
I’m not even asking for that. I’m asking for it to NOT EXIST.
Think outside the dang box. Gear grind is unimaginative and senseless. It makes about as much sense as finding ways at your job to work harder and get paid less. It’s about as stimulating and intellectually rewarding as curling up in a corner and drooling.
There are so many BETTER ways. I point to Guild Wars as a fantastic example. Jeez GW2 is such a disappointment after that. Brainless grind. Yay. Don’t even have interesting ways to recombine character, hero, and team builds to take the edge off.
I feel like I’ve gone from being an architect in Guild Wars, to a toddler playing with blocks in GW2.
Well, we’re not in Guild Wars any more. But I guess we knew that.
My guess is they ran so many anti-gear grind people off by now that they reckon that more gear is what the remnant of their audience wants.
GG, ArenaNet. Way to NOT freaking learn from November. And here I was, after months of not playing GW2, tentatively getting my feet wet again and trying to give it a chance.
Wake up. Gear ruins games. Apply some effort and imagination into making it fun, instead.
Screw this.
Most (if not all) guild leaders I know agree with me when I say the guild roster is so very sad in this game. It seems nothing more than a glorified over complicated friends list.
So I nearly fell out of my chair when the devs finally did something to the roster in the last patch.
Then felt the usual disappointment when I realized that all they did was add something to make it even more unfriendly. So now I have to confirm each upgrade boost I make instead of just spamming the boosts. What a pointless update
Seriously Anet your game is called “GUILD WARS 2”, so why why why do we not have a useful roster after 9 months?
I can’t believe with so limited resources available you chose to spend them on adding a “let me annoy you by asking if you are sure” button to the roster. Then again, I can believe it :S
One of my pet peeves is people that complain but don’t offer solutions. Please tell me what so wrong, how you would fix it, or list any other AMAZING ideas you have that have not been implemented.
You must have missed the link in this thread to another with 9 months worth of suggestions. Scroll up
Have a look on this page:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-System-Improvements/page/4#post2195992That thread has been running for 9 months. I would suggest posting your idea’s about the guild management system there to keep everything together.
At page 4 there is a list of all suggestions / missions guild features that I could found in the threads.
To be honest, I posted a lot of stuff there 8-9 months ago. So did a lot of other people. Nothing has substantially changed. I don’t think they care.
The UI in general is clunky and unfriendly. I have no idea why they’ve gone this long since launch without a major overhaul. It’s embarrassing, really. I’d be ashamed to have made such a UI and kept it out there for so long because it smacks of laziness, cutting corners, and lack of ability.
In my opinion, it’s the thing in most dire need of an overhaul because it;’s the one interface everyone must use. But clearly for them, this living story is the priority over everything, including polish and quality.
I take pride in the products I provide my customers because I believe that they are a direct reflection of myself and my work ethic. To me, it looks like ArenaNet no longer does.
GW is alive and well still. I spend quite a bit of time there. Not just for the nostalgia, but because it’s still quite fun.
Nostalgia…

Legendaries are a lot of grindy work, yes, but I fail to see anything truly legendary about them.
You’d think, at a bare minimum, there’d be a bit of a story to each one.
Seems like a really unimaginative time-sink, to me.
I think it’s entirely possible to work out a Cantha, 250 years later, where players don’t necessarily have to choose Luxon or Kurzick.
What would be really freakin’ fantastic, however, is to bring back the Alliance system. This multiple guild repping system is awful for community building.
Oh Evon it is. Down with Kiel and brainless bribery with cheap waypoints and thaumanova reactors.
Finding Abbadon has substance. Perhaps we could find all the old gods!
Could this lead to finding the entrance to the fabled Underworld, Fissure of Woe, and Domain of Anguish?
Yeah, I have to agree with BuD. Since ale is spammable and no longer have to death level. Since they have buffs up a week at a time. I would think a person could get plenty in a third of the time. But it is very easy to do everything with heroes now. If you are going to work the points and want some minis just send me a msg. I have about 15 or so I never used. would just give them to you. I’m inclined to believe a lot of vets may make donations to your cause, since this is not a “I hate vets, its not fair blah blah blah post”
Daniel’s got a point. I can’t even tell you how much help I’ve seen players give to other players who are working on their Halls of Monuments and GWAMM titles. There really is no community quite like the Guild Wars community…not even the Guild Wars 2 community. It’s something pretty special.
I’d really like to encourage people, as a very fun and positive thing, to get into Guild Wars and work on those titles and the Hall of Monuments. The game is great, and while the population isn’t what it was a few years ago, it’s still quite lively, and friendly. Just take your time and enjoy what the game has to offer. Everyone who plays long enough will wind up with some titles and quite a few things in their HoM without really even trying.
And besides, GWAMM is still the coolest title around
Yes x 10. I approve of this idea!
Again one of the most outstanding example of pure greed. Disgusting!
lol when the Hall of Monuments came out, we had no idea what it would do in GW2. People did it for fun. It wasn’t till long after that the connection was announced, and even then there was no clear picture of how it would work in GW2.
So there’s nothing greedy about it. People did it for fun.
Even so, absolutely anyone could have played GW back then and filled their hall. Absolutely anyone can do so, today too.
I know it’s one hell of a time commitment. Those who did it, earned it and frankly, much more. Months/years for 500AP and some skins? Seriously. Nobody has a thing to complain about here. Frankly, it’s about kittening time that ArenaNet did something nice for the old GW crowd…lately I’ve been thinking that they’ve sold out to the kids from those other MMO’s.
Give it a rest, people. It’s not a big deal.
Well, you can get 30/50 in 3 weeks to a month if you know how to trade and efficiently do the tasks.
This is how I did it.
8/8 devotion, 6/8 fellowship, 3/18 honor, 6/8 resilience, 7/8 valor (link not working for some reason) If you go to the HoM calculator and type in Ashen Shadowblade you can pull me up.
It took about 3 weeks not long before GW2 released. I did have a little bit of a bonus in the form of minipets my dormant account collected over the years, but it didn’t help that much. Most of my points can be acquired through trading.
And there you have the main issue:
GW1 is quite empty now, so trading will be quite hard, since there aren’t really people to trade with, which would make the Devotion part more or less impossible to do in a short amount of time.
Not so. There are always multiple districts open in Kamadan with people trading. Guild Wars is, you’re correct, not as populated as it was 3 or 4 years ago, but it’s still quite lively, and there are lots of very active guilds out there recruiting newbies.
Also, case you missed it: " I don’t give a crap about AP! "
Clearly not, my friend.
Anyway, I’ve no idea why people are this spun up about it. There are far more interesting things to argue over than this. One is that I’m actually defending ArenaNet on something for the first time since probably the Super Adventure Box.
Be that as it may, I just can’t see what’s unfair about it. Anyone can do it. By playing a game, no less! Go have fun!
You dodged the question VOLKON! Do you believe it’s fair for that other guy?
PS: And answering your question, you have gain 300 AP :p
That’s actually hard to answer simply because I don’t think fairness is applicable at all. Some guy across town spent all spring in his garden and has a really nice crop of tomatoes. Is that fair to people that love fresh tomatoes and don’t have tomato plants? Fair is irrelevant. I’m not competing with that other guy whether or not he’s under the illusion of competing with me. I spent the time tending my garden without knowing or caring if he existed. How is it unfair if I enjoy fresh tomatoes?
(Side note… I had a hard time typing “garden” thanks to GW2… kept starting out as guard…)
Although you are not competing, the competition exists. Therefore whether you like it or not, you are competing!
A better analogy is this one:
We are all in a Bicycle race (i.g: tour de france). Those who have won a previous race, are entitled to a yellow shirt! The yellow shirt for it’s own shows the prestige of that runner! However, the wearer of the yellow shirt don’t start ahead of the rest, because that would not be fair! Doing so, is creating a handicap for the rest of those in the competition!
Because it is a competition, it should be fair for all, and so all start from the same starting line!
Obviously if i want to join the race later, i will finish it at last! (to those who says it also can’t be fair to who start gw2 later…)
Well…Guild Wars was available to everyone at exactly the same time back in 2005, if I remember.
Unless, of course, you weren’t born yet, in which case perhaps take it up with your parents, and not ArenaNet…maybe they can get those 500 points for you, and this would be fair?
Oy vey…
For anyone that’s complaining about the increase in APs from GW1 contributions, answer me this.
How many APs did I receive and how did that affect you?
I don’t know how many you received…
But then answer me this: If you by doing nothing, you passed someone in the leaderboards due to your said gain, then was it fair to that player (let’s assume he cared about his position)?
I spent over a year getting my HoM I wouldn’t call that doing nothing Now you’re just making silly excuses and insulting people because you feel hurt you didn’t get “free stuff”. Jeez
No you were getting it either for yourself, or the stuff which was promised before.
You didn’t know about either Achievement Chests nor Achieve Point increase.
Dont call BS here.
Nope I didn’t know about em but what is essentially wrong with that? How in the world are you competing with other players but getting few gold and weapon skins? You know who cares? Only people who like to show off stuff and have to prove by any cost they have better shinies then the rest.
If it’s so important to you, or any1 – buy GW1, log in and work on those points. And try getting 50 points – I can guarantee you that it’s almost like making a legendary if not harder.
I got the HoM points, i played GW1 since release, i’m talking for other people who can’t make it because of lack of players. I bet its so much fun to do everything with NPC’s.. especially if u start from zero.
There are a lot more than 8 people complaining about it. If they all got Guild Wars, they could have a full party for almost everything.
It’s actually a bit easier than it used to be. So is getting GWAMM. At any rate, it’s not going to go quickly, but it doesn’t have to take years either. I’d think that a sufficiently motivated person could do it in a few months.
However long it takes, though, it really is a ton of fun. There are lots of active guilds still in Guild Wars. Ask around in LA or Kamadan. Give it an honest chance, and it’s a good bet you’ll like the game. There are more than a few people who like it better than GW2.
Edit: I already had GWAMM and had been playing GW for years when the HoM link to GW2 was announced. It took me a couple months to scrape up the stuff I didn’t already have to fill it. That was a great time, back then, because there were so many people working on it that a lot of the content that had quietly been forgotten by most people was lively again.
The toughest part will probably be collecting all those minipets. On the bright side, prices are going down, and by the time you finish up the other stuff, you’ll have a ton of cash in your Xunlai Chest
(edited by Chuo.4238)
To answer the question in the title of this thread:
Yes! GW2 players CAN get all 500 HoM points. The Guild Wars servers are live and active, and anyone (who wasn’t banned in the very big, very controversial, and immensely entertaining Hero’s Ascent Dhuum-a-thon a few years back anyway) can create a character in Guild Wars, link that account to their GW2 account, and start working on the Hall of Monuments.
As a bonus, you’ll get hours of quality time in an excellent game.
It’s win/win for everyone. Seriously people. Want the 500 points? Go get them. Nobody will stop you.
Perfectly fair. Those points were earned, and can still be earned by anyone. Get on it.
^
Why are you making so much fuss over mere 500 points? Earning achievement or title in GW2 is 100x easier then anything in GW1.
Agree completely. And if you just must have those 500 points, Guild Wars is still up an running and active. Go get them. It’s not like you can’t. They are there for anyone who wants to do exactly the same thing for exactly the same reward.
They haven’t “given” anything to anyone that can’t be had by anyone else. So stop whining and go earn them.
Do you know that thanks to us you can play GW2 now? we supported Anet by buying GW1 so I think people deserved some reward that will highlight them from the others.
Highlighted the Elitism! Don’t agree!
I’m sorry but this a lame excuse to support the cause!
If you bought GW1 on purpose to support GW2, and by doing it you had no fun in GW1, then i would accept this kind of answers. If you bought GW1 to play GW1, and the fun you had in GW1 payed the game entirely, then the answer is complete biased!
All the rest is greed!
If you think having 500 AP’s is elitism, and you don’t like elitism, then I’m not sure why you even care about AP’s, or why this bothers you. I have no idea what the rest of your post after “Don’t Agree!” actually means.
I’m finding myself in the odd position of defending one of ArenaNet’s decisions…
I woldn’t mind exchange these GW2 rewards for a little more support for GW1 because this game deserves it.
hear hear! I do wish they still took an active involvement in GW1. Even if it was just to come up with new Birthday gifts for each year, and new festival hats…
Think of it this way – a whole lot of Guild Wars fans are pretty disappointed with GW2. This could be their way of trying to make some of that up.
And it’s no secret, and never has been, that there would be some benefit in GW2 from completing the HoM in Guild Wars. Moreover, ArenaNet has never, ever, been specific as to exactly what those benefits would be. If they are looking to use that angle to bring some of the disillusioned Guild Wars fans back into GW2, then that tells me that they’re trying to do better by those fans (and about time!). If it gets more people back into Guild Wars, so much the better! I still play Guild Wars.
Don’t like it? Go play Guild Wars and get some stuff in your HoM. Guild Wars is still around; there’s absolutely nothing preventing anyone from doing anything in Guild Wars at all. And guess what? Guild Wars is a very good game. You might just have some fun while you’re doing it.
(edited by Chuo.4238)
I’m glad they gave the 500 AP for a full HoM. To be honest, the armor and weapon skins were a bit of a disappointment. This makes up for that, a bit
OK I can’t really complain. I had a blast getting GWAMM and filling my hall, and GW2 rewards or not, I would have done it anyway just for its own sake.
But thanks for the points, ArenaNet. I’m all for anything that encourages people to play Guild Wars. It is, and always should be, fundamentally entwined with GW2.
The more ways you can find to get people to play both games, the better!
Those with a full HoM earned it. Really. That wasn’t quick and easy by any means.
It was, however, tons of fun. If you’ve never played Guild Wars, I strongly recommend it.
It’s an amazing game.
So the debate becomes about whether ascended gear is required or optional. Those who think it’s required will insist we have grind and those who think it isn’t required will insist there is no required grind.
To take your example, if it’s a stat increase, however large or small, it doesn’t matter if it’s actually optional. It doesn’t LOOK optional. And people then are going to feel like they’re being forced to grind fractals if they want to stay competitive in WvW or dungeons. ArenaNet should have known that. I think a LOT of people DID know that, but for some reason they’re not telling us, they made the decision anyway. It was a huge mistake, and we’re all left wondering why they made such an obvious one. What was their real motive? It’s about PERCEPTION.
But that is only one thing of many. And I am not arguing any of them here. That wasn’t the point of my earlier post. My point is: we all believed one thing, and APPARENTLY got another. Perception. Marketing 101.
@Erasculio
I’m not saying the manifesto is 100% correct though, so your whole theory falls apart. I’m saying there is one definite line in there that I don’t feel is correct. Based SOLELY ON ENGLISH, the paragraph with grind can only be interpreted one way. People can bring their own interpretations all the want, but it doesn’t make it what that paragraph says.
And the part about Ree talking about story and Colin talking about DE isn’t my opinion it’s a matter of fact, clarified by Anet themselves.
You have a problem because you PERCEIVE me to a be blind fan boy, when even killcannon has noticed that not all my posts are positive.
But I’ll continue to speak up when I see things that misquoted, or exaggerated beyond all reason.
My issue isn’t with those who put Guild Wars 2 down. It’s with those who invent stuff to put it down. It comes from years of arguing with teenagers who over-emphasize everything to try to make a point, even when there’s no point to be made.
And I argue this line of thought on every forum on every topic you can name. It’s not about Guild Wars 2. It’s about integrity.
If it takes a technical argument over semantics to mount a defense of the Manifesto, then I’d say the glove fits.
Sure, some people here are just kittening, but many are also onetime fans who really feel left out in the rain by some of ANet’s decision-making. And you know it. Everybody knows it.
I can say that from the announcement of GW2 back in the EotN days, following what tidbits came out during the deveolopment process, and getting beyond excited over that manifesto – I expected something completely different. Something that had a bit more meaning than what we got.
From what I can tell, so did many others. THIS is why we feel let down by the Manifesto. It doesn’t matter what it technically says in perfect English in the fine print – the spirit of the thing tells us one thing, and what we got in GW2 is something so different it feels like a betrayal.
I think enough people are disappointed over this that, even though they might actually wind up making a pretty good game, it will never have the chance to be the great thing it could have been. Too many old GW fans have left, stopped believing, and don’t care anymore.
I don’t think there’s any getting that back.
I often wonder if some posters have some kind of arrangement with the establishment…
Few people are asking the benefits of increasing the skillcap.
One very good reason … more trait points to spend.
You could do that without increasing the level cap. It would just take a little more thought and ingenuity and effort that some boring xp grind snoozefest.
Imagine some kind of story and content associated with gaining those trait points…that would be so much more fun.
80 is far too many levels. Far more than are necessary. In fact, I think levels altogether are an antiquated system that should stay in WoW and D&D where they belong. I’d so much rather see skill-based character progression than simple, stupid XP accumulation for levels (there are games out there like this – and one notable one I can think of is 10 years old…so it can be done, and done well).
I almost didn’t buy GW2 when I found out that the level cap at launch is 80. Seriously? What a no-brainer way to play. And at launch! It didn’t even have to take years and several xpacs to get it to 80!
Increase in level cap = I permanently go play something else. So that is the impact, as far as I am concerned.
Best break from gw2 is to get back to gw1 and feel gw1 is far superior game lol!
True that! I play GW rather frequently now. And some other games, too. GW2 is way too shallow and grindy for my taste, but I am hoping that in a year or two they’ll have it in the shape it should be.
So I check back here from time to time and see if the things people complain about have changed…so far, a few things have, but mostly not.
All I know is that it hasn’t captured my fascination at all. Especially not like GW did. I actually have to force myself to play. I get bored, frustrated, and very annoyed at the lack of polish/customization. Maybe in a year or two it’ll be that fun game we all expected. Right now it’s just very shallow and rough around the edges. It wasn’t ready for release. It still isn’t, really.
Now I can say this: if it had been what I expected from the Manifesto (big sigh…I watched that video over and over and was soooo excited for this game to launch) I’d be loving every second of it. But it isn’t.
Will it ever be? Who knows. I hope so. But I really think that the people who made that visionary Manifesto are not the same people making the command decisions any more.
Is there any single thing Anet has done, or can do that someone wouldn’t complain about?
There are people who would complain if you gave them fifty dollars. So somebody will always complain. Why be fussed about those sorts? Why complain about the complainers, or get all upset over it? If it bothers you, I’d respectfully suggest that forums are not something you should be reading.
To be fair, however, ArenaNet have deserved quite a lot of the criticism directed at them since launch. It’s easy enough to tell who’s got a legitimate criticism, and who doesn’t. I, for one, appreciate that people are willing to say when they don’t like something. It gives ArenaNet a bit of insight into the community and market, and also a chance to adjust and fine-tune their course.
Imagine this game with no feedback. All development decisions would be guesses, and there would be a much higher chance of it just becoming awful.
You’re going to get a mini Jungle Troll, every year, from now on
It occurs to me that I’ve seen several emails from other studios encouraging me to return to their games, and talking about new features, and often providing some incentive.
I usually ignore them, but I’d be willing to read one from ArenaNet – especially if it wasn’t just the usual empty hype but a sincere discussion of where they game is actually going…
Well, I don’t play any more. Limited character/skill build options, over-simplistic and restrictive gameplay, tier gear grinding, RNG, cash shop funneling, temporary content, lack of GvG, bugs, crashes, poor writing/editing, vapid storyline, and general mediocrity have finally, after 7 years of being a Guild Wars and ArenaNet fan, turned me off.
Those 7 years are why I still kind of follow the game, to see if they’re going to actually get around to “when it’s ready”. But I don’t play anymore. And so far, I still see people complaining about the same things I left the game for. So I guess it’s not fixed. I wonder if it ever will be.
It sucks to go from a huge fan to a very disappointed one. Perhaps I should just forget GW2 forever and move on.
But anyway, to answer your question, OP, as best I can:
Here is exactly one bona-fide, certified player who doesn’t log on any more.
Up to you if you think there are more out there like me. I certainly do.
How can anyone describe GW2 as ‘bland’? I’ve played and tried a number of mmo’s and GW2 isn’t bland by any means. Good lord!
I can’t believe what I read here sometimes.
As to the OP’s point, I can see where they are coming from, reading these forums sometimes one could almost think the game was hated and loathed. The game is good, and has it’s strengths, and it has it’s weaknesses. It is good to communicate the weaknesses in order to give ANet feedback, but it’s those who are persistently negative that seem to go above and beyond sometimes.
Nauge I agree. The very way Chuo describes GW2 is the way some people described GW1 ‘niche and antiquated’ and GW1 did very well, thank you very much!
I love GW1. Have thousands of hours playing it. It;s an awesome game. It has its issues, and sure, you could make a case thakittens niche, but it seems that they are not learning from its successes and failures. It’s kind of like they are trying to please everybody, which results in actually pleasing a niche-sided crowd.
Bland. It really is. GW2 is a mile wide, sure, but has no depth. The story is ‘meh’ Legendaries have no legends. Living story is shallow, vague, and often just doesn’t make sense. I don’t see any richness to it – nothing that engages the brain or imagination. Sure, it’s pretty…but things can be pretty, yet shallow.
They did, https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/
It’s at least 2 years old.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I must’ve lost that memo…that said, I don’t think that forum has the same purpose as this one…
(edited by Chuo.4238)
Oh this game isn’t going to fail at all. But it also isn’t going to be the great game it could have been, and that everyone expected.
It’s well and truly going down that path of niche game. It’s far too clunky, antiquated, and bland to attract and keep a large crowd. I’m sure they’ll improve it over time, but I think they’ve already driven off too many people, who are now into other things.
You kidding? AB and JQ/FA lived well right along with GvG. WvW would be fine. Having GvG would probably attract a lot of players who don’t play GW2 because the sPvP is lame. It’s a kitten shame they didn’t have it ready at launch. It’s too late, now, for GvG to ever be anything great like it could have been had it been there from the beginning.
Comparing AB and JQ/FA with WvW is… I don’t have the words. How exactly is GvG going to attract people who don’t like sPVP? Care to elaborate “how great GvG could’ve been?” You love just posting empty words without any meaning.
There is no WvW in GW. AB and JQ/FA are the next closest thing.
Could’ve been = what it was like in GW. Something the PvP community revolved around, and interested lots of others, even if they didn’t participate in the ladder itself.
Lay off the snark, mate. We’re having a conversation and sharing opinions. The only people I’m criticizing here are ArenaNet, not you. Don’t like what I have to say? Disagree politely, or not at all.
If GvG existed no one would WvW, so no.

I think ArenaNet have sealed their reputation for GW2 mediocrity by now, and GW2 will never be the great PvP game that GW is. I think, almost a year into it, this game still isn’t ready, and they’ve put no real effort into interesting PvP at all.
If there was GvG, and monthly tournaments and the like, I’d probably still be playing. This, more than anything else, really turned me away from GW2. The PvP is a joke (and don’t EVEN say WvW is PvP – it’s not PvP any more than AB or FA/JQ. It’s more PvPvE).
GW was well known for it’s great PvP. No clue why it took such a backseat in GW2. I guess so they could just sell gems. I don’t think they really cared about making a truly good game.
I think one of the things I miss most about GW1 is the atmospheric feel of slight despair and immensity that the world conveyed. The world just felt so massive but a lot of it felt really sparse, post searing ascalon for example always felt really somber and creepy. The searing crystal in Pockmark Flats always really intrigued me, it’s so beautiful and massive and the wind riders always kind of terrified me with how fast they float around in packs.
My favorite is still Factions for atmosphere. Boy, does Factions have atmosphere!
Edit: they oughta just make a GW1 forum for us to use lol
Sorry but I disagree. I don’t see the problem. They could do something better and stay on the original business model.
Developing and releasing an entire games’ worth of content in only six months is a tremendous feat, even for the largest of developers. In fact, they didn’t even make their six month deadline for Factions or Nightfall.
…and they haven’t done it in 10 months for GW2….
All they have done is introduce a bunch of vague, poorly-organized, over-grindy, extremely buggy achievements, and a couple of dungeons that were actually kind of decent but then went away.
I’d take something like Factions or Nightfall a couple months late over this crap any day. Or I would have once. No way they’re going to sell me an expansion, now. I’ve got no faith that it will be what they claim, and no faith that it just won’t be something mediocre and grindy.
One thing that site doesn’t convey is the music. The music plus the particular scenery. That’s what gets me going.
(Yes, I know Jeremy Soule did GW2’s music too.)
He did, but whoever at ArenaNet that chooses the music kind of randomly threw it together with no care or effort…it usually doesn’t jive with the location or what’s going on. Moreover, most of it is recycled GW1 music….
For example, hearing the Nightfall theme in the Cliffside Fractal is way out of place…
So Jeremy Soule’s music is fantastic…but there was no effort into making it fit, and that kills immersion…well…that and a zillion other things about GW2….
