My Trip Wire is hardly Working: PvP

in Thief

Cobrakon.3108

I don’t understand why my Trip wire doesn’t work against a d/p thief? Are they invulnerable? is it bugged? Granted I haven’t played pvp since last year around june patch. Its weird because Trip Wire, while not working so well with some other classes, was pretty dependable against other thieves. I know its not being dodged through, and I know its not the auto evade from acro. What usually happens is I will land a successful trap and it wont knock them down. Sometimes for the opener sometimes in the middle of the fight. Did Trip wire or traps get nerfed? IS there a passive i’m not aware of? Any help would be appreciated.

Jumping Puzzle Dailies

Its probably been stated before but there are some people who have disabilities and cannot complete the Jumping Puzzles. Maybe they don’t have disabilities but still have trouble.

With World Boss Dailies and Gathering its very easy. Bosses only require usually a certain amount of people to show up.

Whats great about the JPs is that it evens itself out: Harder content, but an option to take the easy way. Dailies were never hard content. Though they can be a bit tedious. JPs are harder than the usual dailies, but having a mesmer port allows players another option.

What really solidifies the argument is that the other dailies were never really hard either.

One thing that kinda irks me is that some people are bypassing some of the best content in the game by using the mesmer portals. But that’s THEIR decision.

Ah Interesting! I collect the musical instruments, they are my personal version of legendary weapons lol.

Anywho, If they do add more, I hope they add a few more options.

Firstly, I hope they add chromatic instruments and a way to bind more than one octave. Oh what would i give to be able to bind my midi key board

Secondly, I hope they add an option to either play client side or server side. What I mean by that is that sometimes you want to play server to play with other people, and sometimes you want to play more accurately and the lag can really mess you up.

It would be great for a mode that plays instantly client side, but sends it to the server just the way you played it.

Either that or somehow reduce the lag of the existing instruments.

Could it be possible that there are “markers” people have found in the game data after an update?

Also, since this game belongs to Anet, maybe they inject and remove items that don’t belong to anyone to stimulate the economy. Ive wondered about this for a while now. If prices get out of hand and people play the market hard enough, or if prices become ridiculous, they step in to “normalize” it.

Hi Claudia,

If you find some of the Jumping Puzzles frustrating, let me suggest you find a Mesmer to help you out. for instance, I port many of the hardest jumping puzzles. I offer direct ports to the end.

So there is already a mechanic in place to help you. If Gliders were enabled, then it would completely trivialize the experience.

And yes using a mesmer port trivializes it, but that is a choice. By enabling gliding, it will trivialize the JPs for those who WANT to attempt the JPs.

Also mesmers aren’t always around so theres that. However, if your patient, it wont take too long to find someone who is willing to help.

Actually they do. There is Pheonix, Daydreamer, Scientific. All the vendors seem to have the weapons available. Its a matter of getting in behind the locked rooms.

Like I said, you can’t actually BUY from them. You couldn’t back before they added the new room and changed the old void jumping spot, and I can only assume you can’t now, either.

Ah, well I guess that settles it then lol if you can’t even buy them.

I don't understand the opposition to mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cobrakon.3108

Cobrakon.3108

The reasons for not having mounts

1. The Map Zone Design- Since each map in instance and doesn’t have that glued together feel that wow has, mounts simply make less sense. The zones are relatively small. so a speed boost mount could harm experience.

2. Aesthetic disaster- Have you ever seen an animal at full speed make a 90 degree instant turn in real life? Neither have I, and seeing that would have some realism issues.

3. Unnecessary strain on servers and clients. – GW2 is a beautiful game. Many resources are already being used for the landscape, armor, pets, etc. Imagine for every person in a map zone they have a mount. That sounds like more workload for the server and client.

4. Allocating Anet resources to mount system instead of other areas to the game. -
What is put on the back burner because of creating and maintaining a mount system?

Look at the patch notes we got yesterday.

I think it’s pretty fair to assume the reason they weren’t concerned about fixing or punishing that exploit was because it was all hands on deck, and SAB was only going to be around for a few weeks.

I assume that, but I wouldn’t mind someone from anet chiming in.

After you get past the first check point in w1z2 the music changes. After looking at the trees and environment; the little windows in the trees and jumping up in the trees I thought that the world seemed influenced by the game Wizards and Warriors for the NES.

The music for w1z2 doesn’t seem to mimic too much of the music from Wizards and Warriors. But the song for w1z2 sounds so familiar.

This is the closest song I have found on the NES to this song. The melody @ 15 seconds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02X-EOt6Q_k&nohtml5=False

Compare it with the melody from w1z2. listen to the part @ 5:19.

Anywho I just want to say that I get nostalgia vibes with this zone. Is there a song or level in another game that is even closer?

Selling SAB

I have mixed feelings about this.

Skill based Gold making is such a great thing. The only thing that sucks is making the skins more prolific. It was once a sign that you accomplished something. Not necessarily anymore.

The trade off is that Anet has given people with skills a good way to make in-game money.

Buyers and sellers profit, but those wanting a status symbol or want something more unique are unfortunately left out of the equation.

Let's help Anet make a well-priced Xpack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cobrakon.3108

Cobrakon.3108

When I think Expansion I think 20-30 dollar price range. But the new business model is F2P for everything other than the latest expansion. So if they continue that business model, then new players would get core+hot+new xpac for ~30 dollars.

WHAT THEY SHOULD DO is offer the xpac to existing hot owners for $29.99 and the new people or f2p $59.99

We can go a step further and offer those who paid for core but not an updated version with xpac for $39.99

So for all xpacs and core:

F2P/New Players $59.99
Payed for Core $39.99
Payed for Hot $29.99

I’d say the price plan I proposed would stop people from raging over pricing like last time. It would draw some of those disgruntled with content and pricing back into the game.

Also, it benefits those new and old to the game. New people are getting 2 xpacs + core for $59.99 which is a great deal.

The vets are getting a 30 dollar xpac which I believe is a good price for an xpac.

This way anet continues the business model of offering the complete updated game for full price $59.99 while still offering a reasonable price to vets.

But will this make as much money, or might it make even more? I believe the delivery of the 2nd xpac and its pricing will be a crucial time for Anet. I think its possible that they could make more money by offering a cheaper solution to vets.

Note: My opinion is not based off of current balance, but instead the abilities that have been there from the beginning. So in a nut shell an "over all " look at the mechanics.

Elementalist- Many Button presses but lack of depth.

Warrior- lack of depth

Guardian- lack of depth

Enginner- Seemed like it had some good options but current balance may be pigeon-holing it.

Thief- Thief has the best mechanics IMO. Yeah Balance wise its a limiting factor, but overall it has interesting game mechanics.

Mesmer- Seems to have more depth than elementalist.

Necro- Deathshroud is kinda cheese, I don’t play necro all that often.

Revnant- seemed kinda bland from the beginning?

This is just my opinion overall not Current balance.

I dont see how people can get into warrior and guard: they seem to simplistic. Elementalist from the outside looks complicated but its an illusion. More button presses doesn’t necessarily mean more depth in game play.

I think probably everyone here wants more depth in game play.

A good player in Street Fighter can use any character to beat someone else, even if some characters work good against other characters.

Many people cry “its different you cant do that with mmorpg mechanics”

WRONG. You can do that. First of All sustainability needs to be completely revamped. Mistakes need to be punished. Skill play needs to be rewarded. abilities that do not do this need to be significantly nerfed or redone. Necro Hp Bar In vulnerabilities, etc.

It boils down to sustainability and get of jail free cards. Simply allow better ways to counter these abilities or remove them all together.

My List of Top Priorities

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cobrakon.3108

Cobrakon.3108

I’m going to suggest a list of top priorities.

1. Class Balance and Variety- Every Class Should Be Able To Beat Every Other Class in reasonable even skilled match. Every Class should have multiple builds in pvp and pve that have variety. In fact builds need to be more about playstyle variety, and less about countering other builds in a rock paper scissor fashion. You do this by making dodge more important obviously. You ramp up damage or utility of weapon sets that are lacking incentive to play because they are weak.

For PvP and WvW This is the Rule that should Govern all match ups: Abilities should not prevent a loss if the person is being outplayed.

Invulnerable and sustain need a nerf. Stealth and other escape methods still work but cant be utilized as well by mediocre players. Sustain and Stealth need to be balanced with each other.

2. Raids need to be more accessible: I don’t mean necessarily by making things easier. The LFG system is kinda crappy. Unless your in a sociable organized guild the Raid content feels kinda unapproachable. Hopefully it is pug friendly enough that pugs can get a little bit into a Raid Dungeon, but I don’t expect them to get as far as a well trained group.

3. Dungeon Revamp. There is So much wasted content because the dungeon rewards are lacking. Why not offer a difficulty level increasing the prizes the harder you get kinda like fractals. Except, not with it gated by agony like fracs is.

4. Guild Halls: need to be accessible to small guilds. I don’t expect a huge building for 5-10 people.

5. HoT Event Chains and Instance Pop. – This should really organize itself rather than having to taxi people.

I think Op is worried that Thief will get buffed and the rage will ensue then we will get nerfed to hell again. This is a legitimate concern. And hes right thief has a higher skill ceiling, arguably the highest skill ceiling of all the classes. So if thief gets too many buffs then there is the risk of getting nerfed because mediocre players find the class easy to win with.

I really think its a matter of removing the high sustain of other classes at this point, I don’t really think the thief needs to be buffed per se.

So I am looking at engineers, Druids, DH to a certain degree.

It should be like this: If you make mistakes or your opponent outclasses you, then you should lose, but with the sustain the way it is, mistakes and being outclassed is not punished enough. There are classes that can heal up to 100 percent after flawless execution by their opponents; even when they are terrible players.

3. Fit in A Dungeon or 2 when you unlock one.

You will also find some events that count for the hearts so its like doing 2 quests in 1. Dont be afraid to ask if there are any current events in map chat. People will often paste the way points in chat.

Does pips/mmr gauge your dueling performance at all or player kill performance besides the points you win from those? Are all points equal or does the system take special notice when you wreck other players?

I say this because in the past if my team loses there will be times I’m on a point its 1v3 or 1v2. ill down somebody maybe get a kill off and my team doesn’t cap another point even though i have 3 people focused on me. No! it does make a difference especially if roam a lot. It’s like disgusting thinking that you could lose because of your gear. Now skill wins most of the time. But think about those close calls, think about those wars of attrition. Sooner or later ascended gives you an advantage. Maybe not in some mindless zerg train. But there are times.

If you have a single competitive bone in your body and you like playing WvW you have to get ascended.

For the rest of the pve wise, its not that important. Maybe if there were damage meters or something like that then maybe.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ill tell you why there would be some apprehension with that.

That nature of instanced zones could make mounts feel awkward if they moved faster than you can run. You would be seeing loading screens way more fequently and this might disrupt the feel of the game.

With a game like wow, i think it makes more sense since the zones are all together without loading . It makes riding feel immersive.

Im not sure how that would affect Guild Wars 2. It might make the maps seem smaller.

If we could have mounts that would give us not much of a speed boost, but instead maybe give some cool other features like extra storage on your mount, then that would be awesome.

HoT: What I feel Worked and What Didn't

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Cobrakon.3108

Cobrakon.3108

I am going to talk about PVE here. Pvp Has another whole set of issues.

First Level Design.

Pros: I think the Mushrooms and Gliding are well executed. the speed mushroom is kinda meh but for the most part I like it. The zones have a very platform-esk feel to them and this is in true spirit of GW2.

Cons: The zones feel too similar in artistic design. I feel like I’m stuck in vines the whole time. It lacks variety, unlike the concept art found in adventure movies and how going from place to place brings with it a level of anticipation. In other words, the map design doesn’t tell the story very well.

It would of been nice to work your way out of all the thorned vines and maybe zone 2 or 3 could of been a large expanse or a open area with fog, a swamp, and maybe at its center a single ray of sunlight, a beacon of hope or perhaps a deadly trap.

Think about The lord of the rings movies, The never ending story, or any adventure movie. Think about the transition of different environments; that’s what HoT lacks.

Instead we get more of a feel like the movie Platoon: stuck in the jungle. And I understand part of the design choice but even in the thickness of the jungle there should of been some mystic transition of environments. A reprieve from the entanglement of vines. Perhaps the forsaken city was supposed to be that, but it didn’t feel that way.

Mechanics

Pros: Adding the blue bar to tougher enemies is a good concept. It is much better this way instead of your cc being useless.

World Boss Mechanics are interesting. Definitely a step up from The Dragon World Bosses of Core in most cases.

Cons:

Some of the Vets and Champs have unnecessary amounts
of Hp and Toughness. It feels like a big grind. (I’m looking at you bonecracker)

Speaking of grind, the mastery system and how it gates content is a bit controlling if u ask me. It forces you to experience the zones a certain way. And it takes a longgg time to get the essential masteries. It wouldn’t be so bad if the grind weren’t as bad, because i actually like the idea of the abilities woven into access to areas and the personal story. The one saving grace is that the mastery system is account wide. But to those who only want to use 1 or 2 characters, that isn’t a bonus at all and makes the grind even more miserable.

I have ventured into all zones but haven’t finished the personal story so Ill probably add to this as soon as I can.

Dyeing weapons is not a new concept though.

It doesn’t have to be a new concept, you simply add a feature to a game that people love and it is simply one more reason to keep playing, one more reason to buy the next expansion, etc etc.
