Improvisation Rework

How about instead of resetting the cooldown of 1 of the utility types…. How about resetting 1 of the utility SLOTS randomly: healing/3 utility/elite.

So the build theory on the current improvisation is either stack all of one type and hope to get lucky, or stack a few different kinds and hope to get lucky… or stack one of each type which pigeon holes you to what you can slot for.

Id say a better version would be resetting a utility slot instead. I think rotation and build diversity would benefit more from this.

IT could mix up the rotations you do based on what you get reset. Making for more varying play styles even within the same fight.

i think it would really add to the spirit of what “improvisation” means.

Sniper Weapon = Experimental Rifle ?

I think there’s a good chance the thief rifle will have the experimental rifle stealth ability (Shadow Leap). Perhaps the plan long ago was to give thief the rifle for an elite spec and the experimental gun was created as a marker for future use. If thats the case then shadow leap could be used to get in close to an enemy and perhaps swap weapons to do some melee damage or to gain distance away from your enemy to prep for another burst damage hit with the sniper. If you look at the weapon model it does have a scope on it as well.

You know, I feel they missed an opportunity to address some key issues with thief, but at least this patch was a little different in that they actually touched non meta weapon sets. Hopefully it becomes more of a trend to try to bring other weapon sets into the fold.

(short bow is non meta for damage lol)

If only there was a checkbox on the Graphics options near the bottom called Effect LOD.

Game has survivability even if the xpac is sub par. The reason being is that people have invested time and effort in making and buying their shinies. Its the mmorpg effect. Some won’t easily turn away. There is also the guild/friend factor.

We all hope Anet knocks it out of the park, but GW2 will still be around for a while.
The thing that would kill GW2 population the most would be GW3.

How about Anet makes “select” weapons and back pack skins dyeable. That way they wont have to worry about doing each and every one.

Another idea would be to allow certain lighting effects to be colored. Kinda like the chaos gloves from the gem store.

I think it would take too long to overhaul the entire back catalog of skins. However, adding “select” skins to be dyeable would be a nice touch.

Raiding is a far cry from a measure of skilled gameplay but rather just knowing the mechanics of the bosses and playing the right builds.

For complex mechanical gameplay you’d have needed to have played the thief before HoT in sPvP or WvW. The PvP has since turned turned into a joke in this game, though.

I remember those good ol’ days… power d/d was so fun to play. Back when positional play was more important instead of keeping a steady amount of dodge spam and shadow step when necessary.

It Seems like to do good damage you have to do highly repetitive rotations.

So far I really like raiding but now that I want to up my damage I find the most effective rotations are pretty boring. I know that’s why they call them rotations but now im a little put off by the monotony of it.

I kinda wish it would be more like a very hard fractal or group that struggles where you could run trip wires, shadow refuge to rez people etc. But I am worried that on the higher levels of raiding it gets very monotonous for us thieves? Any comments or advice?

The drawback, however, is that it is pretty easy to dodge it or time cc to land in it.

The thief probably gave up mobility/stealth/sustain in some way for more damage.

The coins spawn after every daily reset, however, when I try to collect the item received icons all show up for the coins but my stack of coins will not update it stays at 163.

Ive missed so many coins from this happening.

Sorry you’re having trouble collecting the furniture coins.

  • Have you tried moving the stack of 163 to the bank?
  • Are you sure you don’t have two stacks of coins in inventory (in which case, only one would grow in size)?
  • Have you opened a support ticket? (That’s the only way to get an individualized response.)

(Additionally, it helps if you take the time to create an in-game /bug report right after you notice the issue; that offers additional game data to the QA team. And they can use that to track down any bugs.)

The Counter Attack BAr would be filed by dodging or blocking an attack.
Each Counter attack point (or increase in a bar… lets make it points for sake of argument)
increases the damage of your next strike.

AND/OR

When your counter attack bar is filled it can be used for an entirely different/new skill.

Yup both sending and mailbox limit as well.

I port people for JPs and when they send a tip I like to tell them thx… But i can only tell a couple at a time thx because of the spamming rule.. OP has a great idea about increasing the amount of mails you can send for those who have invested time. You could do it by AP or some other long term investment in the game.

Maybe enable it for those with two prerequisites: 5000AP and double authentication.

That way less incentive to hack accounts.

Instead of heavily focusing on Dodge/Evade Daredevil should have been more about counter attacks. We should of gotten a counter attack bar. Each block or Dodge multiplied the damage of DD abilities. Dodge spam should not have been a thing.
The counter attack bar would shrink pretty quickly after a block or dodge.

Invulns like in acrobat trait would be non existent.

Each DD utility has a perk with the counter attack bar.
One refills dodge, one gives X buff. etc.

Adjust as needed.

I like the concept of thief being the technical artistic kungkitten/NInja type
Dodge Spam does not count.

Its unfortunate that backstab is such a wasted skill. Why Back stab when you can Auto Attack or Staff 5. Backstab should be a big hitter, one of the biggest in the game. It takes positional platy unlike many other no brain skils in this game. I got excited when they first announced the back stab cd whiff making it harder to hit because i thought soon after they would increase the damage of back stab. I am still wait ing for the other foot to drop. XD

Have you ever seen what looked like at first glance to be the perfect sword. Then you notice a weird little branch, or some sorta weirdly placed dinglydooper thing. It makes it less cool. It could of been 100 percent cool but that weird design choice…. maybe you will buy it, and maybe you will move on to the next hot item when the time comes.

I have a theory: Asthetic Items aren’t made as awesome as they could be so you are never completely satisfied. That way you continue to spend money on items because you’re not all that attached to the skin you bought.

Maybe this isn’t always the case, but I just feel there are several items that have some little dinglely doodad, that just takes and awesome item and puts a little terd on it, so that it wont be the last skin you ever buy.

Anybody else feel this way?

Jumping Puzzles Don’t quite fit in any category. Yes they have an achievement but they have other reasons for completion. Some have precursor collections, others have mastery points, while others like Chalice of tears have collections that reward you with an item.

Jumping puzzles are clearly a major category to this game. Fractals, Dungeons, Raids, Events, and Jumping Puzzles.

If I put an LFG for Jumping Puzzles in the achievement hunter category…. there are people who care less about the achievement and more about the item or mastery they can get for doing the JP. These people might not even look in the Achievement Hunter category.

If your buying gems with gold during the sale then you are not getting as good as deal if you had exchanged gold for gems when there wasn’t a sale.

The key is to convert gold to gems when you get the most gems for your gold. Then sit on those gems for those inevitable impulse buys.

So in a way the rate change because of extra sales does negate the price drop. Especially with the ~20 percent sales. The 50 percent sales will usually stay a good deal despite the conversion rate changes.

So just think if your exchanging gold for gems the current sale might not be a better deal or as good as deal as you would think.

After Taking a long break from the game I recently added Chalice of tears to my porting services. The way I port, you will not need to do a regular run through. I have 2 Mesmers and One Is Parked Up High.

If you’ve put off this JP and associated tokens, feel free to send me a message in game and I will respond if i’m not afk. If you have a disability that keeps you away from JPs, I ca nstill get you through without having to jump at all. (maybe a glide or two, but if needs be no glide)

I still do Not So Secret dive, JP, and the precursor collections there. Along with all the other JP’s.

Id say Oh dagger is rightly designed and that many other things are poorly designed XD. We are more likely to get a OH dagger rework than a massive rework of everything, however.

I think the thief and the warrior were the best dummies to fight at the same time. You had long range burst and and melee which provided a good way to test your survivability. Now its replaced by a massive boulder.

Im trying to figure out what advantage the massive boulder brings to the PVP lobby. I’ll try training with it sometime, but i’m skeptical.

Block, invuln, reflect and more block

What’s up with this? Classes have so many blocks, invulnerabilities, and reflects it’s ridiculous. I mainly play ranger and thief, and so much time is spent stripping off these blocks and stuff first. Whenever I see a guardian, I just start autoattacking for a bit first because of the PASSIVE blocks (aegis I think, I don’t know guard that well), than the active ones too. Than I use my burst and they heal up and by this time their blocks will have come off cooldown again. Same with warrior. 4 sec invuln, shield block and mace block. Scrapper with ALL the reflects. Even thief has a block. Signet of stone for ranger coupled with a block on GS too.
This is especially annoying with thief, as the only chance in a 1v1 (yes, shouldn’t 1v1 but I like to anyway) is to quickly burst down the enemy but everything is getting blocked. I never use heartseeker because the animation is too long for something that will be blocked anyway. Backstab? Huehue, blocked.

Yeah its just not fun to play against all that junk. Boon/condi management is tedious and more akin to a card game, its also a pain that its small and some have to look away from the battle just to manage it.

All the invulns and blocks are terrible, making the fights way to long. It should be that if someone doesnt time their precise blocks they eventually lose in a reasonable amount of time.

You see Gw2 wanted to corner 2 markets. The esports crowd and the casual/less skilled crowd. The skill in this game is heavy on the team cooperation side of things, and the rest of the game is simplified and made easy for the majority of players. Thats why you have this weird balance where classes are heavily rock paper scissor and some are very high sustain.

This business model is blowing up in their face, however. People need to wake up and realize that anet has meetings discussing this kind of stuff. They think its better to have mediocre game play that doesn’t let individuals shine as much, but instead feels inclusive even to the worst unskilled players.

1. Overwatch has a Public Test Server or “Realm” which allows users to test changes that might eventually come to the Main Game.

2. Every other hero can kill every other hero. Although there are counters they are usually not as hard as GW2 has. Balance is pretty reasonable. People say it doesnt have as amny options which is why its easier to balance. I beg to differ. 23 Heros All with unique abilities. its true they cant be altered but 23 different combinations is still more complicated than what the current anet balance is. with most classes having 1 or 2 viable options.

3. Overwatch has a duel 1v1 mode, a 3v3 mode, and a few other modes on their PTR. This is amazing. After this change Im sold. Overatch has chosen the right path.

4. Blizzard has said they want to try radical changes on the ptr. (public test server) This is revolutionary.

So why can’t anet try some of these things? what is their business model? Are they actually a skeleton crew that can’t make such changes?

One thing I can understand is that Anet has to worry about PvE and PvP. But It seems like almost all of PVE content is doable on every build. Surely they can find a way to balance pvp without ruining the Raid experience.

I really hope for the best for this game, however, despite loving the mechanics of this game, I find myself gravitating to Overwatch.

The problem isn’t newcomers but bad balancing. This is what you get when you try to force specific roles down peoples mouth’s.

The Ultimate Rule Should be: EVERY CLASS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BEAT EVERY OTHER CLASS IN A 1v1 in a reasonable amount of time. And an added perk would be that it doesn’t require a specific build.

For instance if I get Rid of Ryu’s Fireball In street fighter I can still win against another opponent. But GW2 is different it has dependencies and these dependencies overshadow real time skill which is absolutely toxic to a competitive game.Can you imagine how terrible it would be in Street fighter if you did a sweep kick or upercut and it didnt knock them to the ground or if it didn’t do any damage because they had an invulnerable popped. Street Fighter would of gone bankrupt if they had implemented such things.

Every game that is competitive and attracts all types of competitive people has a few similar characteristics.

1. You can kill any of the enemy players if you are good enough and do it in a reasonable amount of time

2. If your team isn’t that good you can carry your whole team

3. Team Work isn’t always stronger than the power of the individual. You want to talk about balance causing new comers to leave then lets talk about how Team Synergy is abusive in gw2.

This is the one lesson ANET might take away from “eSports” involving arcade games. In such games, there is not usually a glaringly weak or OP class or character. When there is, the game doesn’t do well.

I hope they take note of how little stealth there is in Streetfighter

And yet if you look at Blade and Soul, which is 1v1 balanced, has Assassins which use stealth. Balance might not be perfect with blade and soul but atleast they are willing to balance 1v1. What a blessing! Your Argument is invalid

How to unlock elite spec in PVP

It might be worth mentioning that you have to be in the pvp lobby for the pvp traitline to appear on the top portion of your screen. You can enter the pvp lobby by clicking on the crossing swords icon on the uper left of your screen then there will be a button that says to enter pvp lobby. You go there then you will be able to equip the elite specs and weapons.

Really Terrible Patch

This patch was like a solid B- if I had to grade it. They started toning down some of the stupid things that make some classes way too rewarding, while buffing a lot of completely useless traits and utilities for many classes.

I also agree that rev still needs some nerfs (mainly to get rid of some of the stupid mechanics of staff 5 and sword 2, while buffing other things to add some dps with more counterplay elsewhere).

Thieves should get a buff, but they really do need to tone down the ports a bit (also for rev). You can see they tried to do this with the new map, by giving some more obvious places you can’t port to, but it really does hurt any gameplay that relies on positioning to succeed when some classes have an ability that is as brainless as “push button, crap on face of guy maintaining good positioning in general”

In fact, if they did a decent job toning down some of the access to built-in hard mitigation of other classes, they could open up thief’s role without anything else. Too many classes tank way too well despite wearing dps amulets.

This patch is a solid A+

1) They finally stopped listening to the general forum whining, they recognised that listening to player A calling OP everything he loses to, it’s a bad decision…thx god

2) They tried to maintain profession integrity while reducing the faceroll nature of some build..without destroying anything

Revs are fine as they are, every profession must have that “oh kitten” factor to force the opponent in an unfavourable situation, this makes the game interesting and fun to play in my opinion, a game where profession A does C and profession B responds with D…it’s not what I call a MMO

Thief is great as they are as long as you have a regular player on it…and not a lemming, you have a role : decap and +1. You like it..so play thief…you want to 1vs1 Rambo everywhere…don’t play a thief is that simple. With time I’m sure they’ll give thieves a duellist elite spec or something similar.

This is a MMO and every profession has a role and purpose to fill, in PvP not every profession has to be able to 1vs1 things randomly, in WvW thieves are more than able to 1vs1 and win VS anybody….whoever say no to this..one warning…I can post 100+ videos of thieves 1vs1 and win in WvW

No offense but you sound like the problem: a toxic plebeian who has helped contribute to the demise of this game. Do you turn your character with"a" and “d” keys? Were you a World of Warcraft healer that only played magic and sat there in raids from a distance casting range spells? Do you avoid the hardest jumping puzzles in the game?

So I did some investigating on the threads the OP has posted in and Ive come to the conclusion that he does not main thief. From what I can tell he has posted in warrior forums and He showed off …. wait for it…. wait for it… Showed off his Guardian pictures.

So I think to myself, this guy has a conflict of interest right there. Maybe… just maybe hes trying to shift the opinions of anet or of other characters so Thief doesn’t get brought in line with the rest of the classes.

To think people fear thief so much… well its obvious why … because thieves can steal their free lunch they have been given… if we are brought in line balance wise we will steal all the hopes and dreams of the click-utility-bar-turning-with-“a”-and-“d”-button- kids.

Thieves can still have winning games in spvp… it doesnt change the fact that the passive invuln boony boon boon crap has put thief in a bad spot.

But hopefully the time for faceroll cheese play will be at an end. One can hope.
