Traits that look weak usually are weak only for you cause you never figured out how to use them effectively.

No some traits are just weak. The new system gives real choice with real builds – not just the option to make awful builds (which designers should try and avoid).

camp 4, players who appreciate the build control and diversity the new system created (this is where the clever people are).

Anet you need to fix that guardian bug. It’s absolutely ridiculous. We melted Teq with like 12 and change left on the clock. -_-

Screenshot please that sound to good to be true

Edit
On a side note I wonder if a ranger with piercing arrows hit the crit spot if he aim for head and stand at an angle behind one of Teq front paws. Maybe ranger can even hit two paws and crit spot if standing right.

The 10% in Symbol buff stacks, so 5 Guards pump out +50% damage buff. Yes it is ridiculous and I believe the time xD

without challenge (i.e. content unplayable to the average player), an MMO will lose players faster than if it consistently deferred to the average player.

You’re absolutely right but it needs challenges for ALL level players. Our disagreement is that everyone’s lumping all the challenges into one. Either its for newbie or elites. Teq is neither, it’s the mid-level challenge for the average. It’s so level 80 players can get together, do a little coordinating and gain a sense of accomplishment in about 30-45 minutes.

I’m 100% for making more challenges for veterans but the mistake is thinking that Teq is meant for veterans. It’s not. That’s the core of the disagreement.

What is the more challenging content then if Teq and TT isn’t? Don’t say Fractal 50 because its easier than the buffed bosses and is not difficult (can be pugged every day with zero effort).

What turns average gamers into good gamers is engaging content that’s personally challenging to players, and rewards enough to make you want to keep trying and improving.

Exactly, since people now are finding the content challenging (as opposed to before when it was not challenging) you now need to improve.

Chilipadiboy, I agree with you. The average gamer does not really enjoy dying over and over with nothing to show for his/her time. They like rewards. They like winning. The recent hp changes are not bringing things like that. They are making things much more frustrating, and time consuming. That’s not fun or rewarding when you have to put in more time and effort for the same reward you got before, and now are more likely to not even be rewarded.

I would mention that this is what turns people from average gamers into good gamers. People have no need to improve if they just get given things for free.

These seem pretty reasonable changes, well thought through. I would be careful not to destroy the Inspiration line though – shaves or mechanical changes on the heal shatter should be enough (I don’t want to go back to the days of no valid condi removal).

I don’t care how many people agree or disagree with the court’s decision but I do find it annoying when a company takes a position on political issues.

There are a bunch of reasons why and I’d rather not get too deep into it. To keep it simple; just do your job ANet, which is making Guild Wars.

GW2 is an MMO with lore and world events, this is merely world building. And if any human here believes business and politics aren’t linked they need to think or watch more news.

Yes, I also find it offensive that a distasteful concept is being celebrated in a game.

But, I’m not talking about gay marriage, here, I’m talking about all marriage.

Obviously, I’m joking to an extent, but quite honestly, I think the answer to this “problem” would have been to extend civil partnerships to straight people, all along.

That way, only very traditional, religious, couples would go the marriage route and the rest of us would just go the civil partnership route.

That way, we would have all been equal, without all this hassle and upset in the religious community and traditional marriage would have probably been thought of as the outmoded concept it essentially is and would have, gradually, gone the way of the dodo.

That kinda leaves out gay people who are religious though. But I have no issue providing civil partnerships to heterosexuals.

Yeah, that’s true.

But, in a way, why would you want to be a member of a club that doesn’t seem to want you?

Might be better to make your own club, instead.

Maybe there could have been another type of partnership created (for both gay and straight religious couples), with religious references, instead?

I’m pro-gay marriage, for those who want it; I just question whether any of us should really want traditional marriage.

I can’t say I understand it (I’ve thought any god we were told to pray to from the age of 5 must be evil or not there – nothing nice demands you praise it). But there are many who do have belief in religions while being gay and laws have to be equal.

The “we’re becoming too integrated and losing our culture” side of things is always, I suppose, a bother, but worth it for the gains I think. You can even do both I know a married couple who still do all the naughty undergound stuff anyway.

The important thing is we are equal before the law – as a Brit I have a lot invested in the rule of law.

Give a higher ICD to the Daze = Stun trait (this lines up too easily with the now improved Mantras) and probably remove the baseline +15% Phant damage (increase the chosen trait to +20%).

That said everything is OP atm, best let things settle – I’ve seen ridiculous builds over the last few days (some things are ridiculously tanky/murdery).

Do you really believe that there is very little difference between a 1sec cast and a 3sec cast??

In the space of 3sec trying to stop the stomp you can strip stab and rupt, perform a stealth blast combo, burst the stomper, run in and save the down’d person from offpoint.

If you’re stomping you need to burn CDs to cover you for the 3secs, perform teleport/los moves to be safe, keep poison up and CC their allies, interupt res banners etc.

All this gameplay BECAUSE its a long time, dropping it to 1sec means all of this gets removed. Not good for the game, bad idea.

They didn’t edit the FAQ after the decision on HoT+Core was made because it would have caused the announcement of the preorder to happen out of their control

Yeah… Only the FAQ update has absolutely nothing to do with the prepurchase announcement. It would have been very easy to change the FAQ to what it currently says without announcing or beginning the prepurchase, so ArenaNet would still have their “big E3 thing”.

In fact, it wouldn’t only have been easy. It would also have been honest.

How many minutes do you think it would be up before the screen shots and “HoT PREORDER BONUS CONFIRMED” happened? They allowed for refunds for as many customers as they could.

The expansion is $50, if you’re a new player (your roommate) you get the Core game as a gift. I think this is the only way to buy the game at the moment from Anet.

I would warn your roommate if he gets a copy of GW2 Core from another source he will then still need to buy HoT for $50 later (assuming he likes the game and wants the exp).

$50 for HoT is the only way to get the game at the moment from Anet.

What people are thinking is;

They changed position on requiring Core for HoT.
They didn’t change the FAQ to reflect the new position.

This would be the dishonest version…

…Which kinda obviously is exactly what happened.

They changed their FAQ when they began the prepurchase. They had already decided how they would do the prepurchase when they began the prepurchase, obviously; and in order to make the assets (website, the rest of the buying interface, FAQ localization and etc), they had to make the decision A LOT before they began the prepurchase.

Besides, with Colin and other high ups in E3, the decision was clearly made some time ago.

Yet they didn’t say anything. They allowed people to continue buying the game in order to prepare for HoT, even with said money being effectively wasted.

You said yourself what this is.

I guess so, good thing they’re allowing people to get refunds from recent purchases then.

Only purchases that were made directly through them. Sucks for all those people that bought from amazon, humble bundle and other retailers.

Shame for them, but someone will always fall on the wrong side of a change. They made reasonable efforts to minimise the damage in my view while keeping to the “make a big statement at E3” plan (which I’m sure they were required to do).

The FAQ edit has been used as some symbol of evil, its just one of those things that comes from press events and marketting while they put up a safety net for customers they could verify purchases from (direct sales).

… not to mention outright accusations of wrongdoing.

They changed their position about requiring to buy the core game and then edited the FAQ to hide the fact they said that in the first place. Seems to be a smidge of deceitful marketing right there coupled with the $10 sales so new players could be ready for when the expansion hit.

If they had a statement within 48 hours of this hitting the fan it would have gone a long way in quenching the fires but all the time did was to allow the anger and rage to build upon itself.

I’ve been in enough companies to see senior management and marketing foul up beyond all recognition while the engineering and manufacturing groups collectively face palm the screw up to say this is was just someone not thinking things through and it seemed like a good idea at the time rather than mustache twirling, hand wringing evil laughter from a darken room.

They changed position on requiring Core for HoT.
They editted the FAQ to reflect the new position.

Isn’t this the order everyone would do it in? No one would be upset about this.

What people are thinking is;

They changed position on requiring Core for HoT.
They didn’t change the FAQ to reflect the new position.

This would be the dishonest version…

I’m assuming people are thinking the guy who edits the FAQ was told NOT to edit it for ages for evil reasons. Or maybe they forgot to tell him anything. Or maybe they changed their position very last minute. Or maybe they were too busy thinking “it’ll be a great surprise lets keep it a secret so everyone gets excited when they hear it.”

The change of position on HoT and Core and the process after is something we know nothing about, but I don’t understand how “the FAQ was editted” proves anything for any interpretation.

on top of the few hundred I invested in the game(gems to gold). And no I didnt need the gold

This is why you’re having trouble, you’ve basicly chosen to buy the game for £250 and built up a belief that you’re an investor. You need to try not to spend money on things you don’t want, otherwise you’ll get a bad feeling later (your brain will see it as a waste, then that you’ve been betrayed, but really you just shouldn’t have thrown your money away on gold you didn’t need).

Threads like this always have a very interesting dynamic to them, imo.

In the first place, it is dealing with a very subjective term…..“value”.
Each person has their own definition of that word.

On one extreme end, you have the person that bought this game almost 3 years ago, is still enjoying it, and thinks they have gotten far, far beyond their initial $50 investment. They don’t bat an eyelash on shelling out another $100 for the ultimate expansion, as they feel that the game has given them far more value than $150 over almost 3 years.

Then you have the other extreme end. Those that feel their initial $50 was a questionable investment, as they’re having troubles with the game, and not seeing enough change in the direction they want it to go. They feel that almost any sort of $$ over $10-20 for an expansion is an extreme slap in the face, especially when they don’t know exactly what is in the expansion.

And none of this is taking into account that a very large number of people involved in these discussions probably never even had to pay for GW1 or GW2 in the first place. There is no ‘value’ even involved for them, even if they insist there is, as they never had to shell out real money in the first place for the game. They got it as some sort of present from a friend, or their parents bought it for them.
Nor is it taking into account those people that don’t even play the game anymore who comment on these threads because they have some sort of self perceived grudge against the game. And heck, most of the people extremely happy with this game never even visit these or the reddit forums.

That’s why, imo, discussions like these are so completely senseless. None of this will accomplish anything. Some of the people in this thread who complain like crazy about ‘slap in the face’ attitude from Anet will still buy the expansion, and some will not. The loyal part of the playerbase will have no problems shelling out the money for the preorder. And then there will be those, loyal and otherwise, who will wait until it releases to buy it.

In the end, the game will be just fine. Sure, some people will quit over this….but there will also be new people buying the game. And then there will be the loyal ‘fanboys’ and ‘whitenights’ who will stick around no matter what.

It all comes down to your personal definition of value, and what you expect a game to deliver. I know what my definition of that word is, and I will be here.

Of course, this is all my own opinion, and I will most likely never have factual numbers to back it up. Just like those pulling numbers out of thin air about how much Anet will lose on this won’t have any factual numbers to back them up.

Anyways, the dynamic involved in these sorts of discussions is what is the most interesting, imo.

I like this human, clevers.

Loss of build variety with patch

in PvP

Posted by: Coulter.2315

Coulter.2315

I think the removal of stats from traits actually cleanses the game of a lot of ugly stuff, at the same time will open up more variety with getting to pick more significant traits.

This change will be the biggest shakeup in GW2’s history it will be exciting and take some getting used to (so much power being dished out). It might be horrific powerstampede (creep seemed inappropriate), it might be a breath of fresh air (speaking of 0 CD on it O_o).

It will not reduce build choices but increase them. Loss of stats is good because we are replacing them with more active abilities from our traits.

The problem however arises with thief, ele & guardian however that they more or less have to take specific amulets because others leave them extremely easy to nuke or condi down due to low base health.

If they would simply take those stat points lost from skill trees and put it on a second item (say ring or jewel) you end up with allot more choice.

Just putting all the stats on an amulet means you will never see a thief, guardian or ele using a good 7-8 of the 15 amulets if they intend on being any use because doing so leaves them easily nuked/killed by conditions.

Well lets not go crazy, the panic strike thief won’t lose any HP with this change (btw its the most used variety). Med Guard will lose 50 HP with this change (btw its the most used variety). Ele will suffer from this change BUT the access to more traits with condensed functionality should make up for it (00266 eles get to be 00666 eles now with better traits).

I liked massively’s article, but i think he missed a point. People aren’t kittened about the “sale” of the original game. No one complained about the 10€ sales (that i’m aware).
The issue is 2 people buy the same thing, one gets 90€ value out of it, another gets 45€.
This added to the already overpriced expansion is adding insult to injury, and THAT’S why people are outraged.
Its not the fact that they’re giving the core game away, its that they’re giving it ONLY to new costumers, old ones may not apply.

When WoW puts the expansions in the battle chest, no one bats an eyelid.
The expansions that was priced at 45 Euros get dropped in a bundle that costs 10-15 euros. No problem at all.
There is devaluation connected to aging of the product and it being replaced with a new expansion.
What players have issues is when you totally remove the value of things previously purchased. 40 is 4 times greater than 10. 1 is infinitely greater than zero. Reducing one back to zero is something you can’t afford. Unless your name is Big Boss and it’s the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Actually when you buy a battle chest you get separate serial codes for each game. I can take my free core game and throw it to a friend or make a second account. In this case I buy this bundle and if I already have the core game then that part of the bundle just disappears.

They are not selling a bundle. They are selling HoT. If you buy HoT as a new player you are gifted with GW2 Core. Its a gift to new players, not a bundle.

That’s new, since evem Anet used the word bundle and then said “you can’t unbundle”.
Also, the game is free? It was on the shop for 40 euros last week. It drops faster than your credibility when you make such statements.

Oh who said “bundle”? I think they made an error by saying that. This is the problem with everyone using popular words, its inaccurate. My description of the situation is correct.

But you aren’t talking about what Anet actually stated, so your description is correct but the reality descripted is non-existant.

I’m describing reality, the person you say used the word “bundle” was incorrect (because its clearly not a bundle as the core game is not included, there is a gift of the core game for those who don’t attach their bought copy of HoT to a core game though).

So you are admitting that anet is making 2 different bundles with 2 different values based on who is purchasing them?
Since one of them has a gift included and the other one doesn’t?
And the gift does hold value otherwise anet would give it away for free to everyone?

I’m saying exactly this :

They are not selling a bundle. They are selling HoT. If you buy HoT as a new player you are gifted with GW2 Core. Its a gift to new players, not a bundle.

and what is the value of that gift?

Its the thought that counts (or generates rage depending on who you ask xD).

You won’t weasel your way out of this. What is the worth of Guild Wars 2?

So just to check you’re about to try and use the “they got something so I want something too” attack?

Its a gift for new players, show some grace and be pleased for them and the fresh life added to the game.

So you’re saying you know more about the situation than the anet employees commenting on it?

I’m saying an employee misspoke because the word “bundle” is popular with game purchasers. It was a mistake, don’t crucify them over it.

Expansion + Core game question regarding time

Thats what I was hoping. I’m sure they’ll be able to get her original account up and running as we have all the information including the ‘welcome’ email from when they received payment for core game, but there’s always the possibility that something could go wrong and I was planning to get her HoT for her birthday on the beginning of July anyway. Thanks for your quick reply

If you choose to create a whole new account with your HoT pruchase when her old account is restored it will not be able to access HoT when it launches (without another purchase of HoT).

I got hacked a while ago and to resolve it they essentially restored my game to a point in time before I got hacked – meaning any progress made after that point was deleted. You can choose this option (I did) but be aware that any playing on that account from now until it is restored will be lost.

I’m not entirely sure what would happen if you attached HoT to her original (hacked) account and then it got restored. I would ask customer services and see if they have any suggestions.

The restoration of an account takes a while (I think I was waiting about 5 weeks).

Get all the information and then ask your daughter if there was something worth turning back time for (I would also point out you do not get restored to the day of the hack – you can be pushed even further back losing things done before the hack too).

Good luck.

Stop telling players how they should respond!

Then look it up.

But you just made a claim, the burden of proof is on you mate.

There’s been inflation of about 8.85% between 2012 and 2015 as a lump in the UK. Something costing £35 in 2012 would on average cost £38.10 in 2015. He is right that (assuming you have some sort of inflation in your country – god help you if you had 3 years of deflation) things that don’t have increased cost (£35 then and £35 now) will be better value now (just cause on average everything else increased by inflation).

Each is opinion; to me it’s the worst one. It miss the mark so much it’s not funny.

Yeah, nothing like starting an article on a price outrage by saying essentially “If the game is fun, why not pay any price for it?” Completely misses the whole point…

Not any price, £35.

Loss of build variety with patch

I think the removal of stats from traits actually cleanses the game of a lot of ugly stuff, at the same time will open up more variety with getting to pick more significant traits.

This change will be the biggest shakeup in GW2’s history it will be exciting and take some getting used to (so much power being dished out). It might be horrific powerstampede (creep seemed inappropriate), it might be a breath of fresh air (speaking of 0 CD on it O_o).

It will not reduce build choices but increase them. Loss of stats is good because we are replacing them with more active abilities from our traits.
