I’m contesting the existence of the 22 others, and because you still haven’t understood it, you earn another copy/paste:
Why not replace all PvE gear with a single set that provides enough HP for noobs to learn and enough damage for veterans to speedrun, with some conditions included, while keeping WvW gear choices a matter of their own?
Also let’s make it clear that almost all noobs these days learn to play while using a zerk gear set. Your point that other gear sets need to be there for them to learn is completely and utterly invalid. You can just learn to play in easy dungeons and do Arah later.
The other sets are there as a resource… Say the designers want to create encounters with ticking AoE damage or mobs resistant to physical attacks. Giving a choice is good, the issue is current encounter design is poor and support comes from CC, Blind, Block and Reflect so that healing isn’t needed and faster killing allows those temp methods of avoiding damage to keep the party up. Zerker gear is the most efficient in the game we play atm so thats why everyone plays it..
BUT in the future designers might want to make things that cannot be done by Zerker easily so the other stats become more useful choices. They should be obviously kept in game.
Your mad desire to kill off zerker is so blinkered you aren’t thinking…
You’re ignoring the point of the question so, like I said, I’ll ask again, and again, and again:
Why not replace ALL PvE gear with a single set that provides enough HP for noobs to learn and enough damage for veterans to speedrun, with some conditions included, while keeping WvW gear choices a matter of their own?
This means REPLACE all gear. You know English? Remove zerk, remove nomads, remove the choices FROM PVE. Keep one all-in-one set similar to a combination of valkyrie and rampagers so that everyone is happy, noobs can learn, veterans can speedrun. What is your problem with that?
So just to check you don’t like most people using 1 stat type and your solution is to force that to be the case? You’re insane..
The reason people are freaked out by the thought of buffs is we get 1 balance patch every 4-6months so anything made ridiculous we’ll be stuck with for ages.
Balance is not just “everything is of equal power” it needs to be constructed around the speed and playability of the game too.
The way I look at it is cast time stun breaks have 2 components. Push the button 1. Stunbreak 2. Channel and extra effects (boons like stab). Much like Guardian Shelter 1. Begin Blocking for 2secs 2. Channel for 1.25sec and heal at end of cast.
Since you’ve “used” the skill for the first and instant part even if you are stopped completing the 2nd part you still have to face the full CD. This is why rupting it puts it on full CD.
What’s heartbreaking is that regardless of any meta, with a little love on the enemy AI, and the skills given to the enemy, exploits and glitches could easily be overcome.
This is a valid point, PvE AI improvements would go a long way to developping a solid game type.
Ultimately, I think the truth is that this is essentially a “Bring the class/weapon(s)/build.” game (and then play in a very formulaic way); rather than a “Bring the player.” (and then play in a more freeform/flexible way) game.
Actually in this game having a “good/solid” build will never make a player better. Player skill is more important than gear or build, so it’s actually a “Bring the player” game and not a “bring the class/weapon(s)/build” game.
A good player in blue/green gear will outperform a bad player in full ascended. Proof? Good players run dungeons naked, good players finish the hardest dungeons naked using only Rangers will longbows and bear pets.
I’m not disputing any of that, but that doesn’t stop people requiring people to use certain classes/weapons/builds etc. in group situations.
Or people viewing one class/weapon/build as superior to another.
Maybe you should just not group with those people.. There will ALWAYS be people who want to do things the quickest and mos efficient way, complaining they exist and asking the game be changed so they can’t is pretty stupid.
Stop complaining and form your own groups with your own parameters.
Robert can you do some work on making Mesmer Scepter less clunky? We have all these wonderful offhands but cannot take more than 1. You don’t need to buff the power of the Scepter just its responsiveness (it may even need a reduction in power if you do this).
Looking forward to Chronomancer but without a 2nd good Mainhand we’re going to struggle to enjoy Shield.
Not having a new Mainhand is very disappointing, we really needed it as we have the best set of offhands but no reasonable person would take Scepter – maybe they’ll update Scepter ^^
However the Chronomancer is a really cool and fun sounding spec, very excited for it and I think you’ll understand when you play it that there is a lot more mechanically going on than first you see.
Its an interesting thing to think about but remember they are trying to make relatable characters. A truly alien way of thinking takes a great deal of effort to craft – Klingons got a whole language and culture designed but they still use numbers in a base 10, ordered as English would, system – even our planet has more diverse sets of ways to count.
Its a good point and you can deeply think about it but I think the desire to make relatable people and the sheer effort required to be unique but not a gimmick is a weakness most humans who try this will suffer from (not to say there aren’t good writers out there who have given it a good try). Only human after all.
All development should be done assuming a full group, if people want to learn to solo the instance which is scaled for 5 thats entirely their choice (and part of the fun i’d imagine), but absolutely no thought should go into that when designing the Dungeon.
If you think it wouldn’t hinder creativity you’re wrong and if you think people wouldn’t just take the easiest number of people required to speed run you’d also be wrong.
Group content should be designed with solely that in mind.
The game has been out for almost 3 years, people have found the optimal method for PvE content in that time. Thats all.
Now you can ask for content updates and more content but you can’t blame people using Zerker for being efficient.

If you want to deflect with the curtain you must place it right at your feet or the enemy’s feet. It is very low so any arc to the attack will cause the projectile to fly over it. Its more awkward to use than other reflects.
We have the most fantastic set of offhands in the game but never can realisticly take MH+OH/MH+OH. Its a real shame and I would ask anet put some serious effort into making scepter viable (the clunkiness of the auto kills it).
You sound like you’re using Stealth skills a lot when clones are in transit to Shatter or Chaos Storm is ticking – these things are likely to be the reason you get revealed. Staff #2 is extremely powerful – wasting it on getting Chaos Armour isn’t always the best choice. Don’t use Sword #3 into AoE fields.
I didn’t read everything you wrote but spotted a few places you could tighten up your mechanical play. Mesmer takes time and practice (you will die a lot doing this) but in the end is very rewarding.
What about resing someone from fall damage during a jumping puzzle? You can’t think the only time people die in the world is vs Tequatl or w/e. Resing someone in open world is a nice thing to do and promotes a friendly “go help” attitude.
Remember the Shouts deal damage (this design was intentional) so you can start your slow attack and clear the block or blind during the swing with the shout – much like Mesmers use CoF during MirrorBlade to clear them atm. I understand the fear of slow attacks being nullified but lets wait for more info.
Guys its unavoidable damage and should be removed – other balances need to take place at the same time though to stop zerker being dropped out the meta. I have no idea why people would want to defend something so obviously bad for the game.
So they are on the decline from an overall standpoint, and broke ahead a little probably due to HoT hype and the recent GW2 fire sale.
It wasn’t a fire sale it was increasing the base for HoT sales…
I also very dislike the idea of air+fire being stronger in every way over force+accuracy.
Force you NEED to land your 10k burst, to make it 11k.
Air+fire you need to land autoatack.
But force + accuracy works better on AOE when hit on multiple foes.
It also yields higher damage if you do consistent damage over a long period of time. That’s why PVE-wise everyone uses force.
PvE mobs don’t dodge… Try to stay focused on PvP here xD
Okay, question. How do I not get brutally melted by any thief?
Put all your effort into avoiding Steal, you’ll need to learn 900 range, predict its use, trick them with double dodges and invulns and get a bit lucky. DP Thieves you want to rupt their stealthing combo as much as possible, SD Thieves you want to learn to dodge and Shatter at the right time for their 3 attack. Dazing them as you Mirrorblade can help land your damage (locks out withdraw or dodge skills).
It will take A LOT of practice but your best weapon will be their overconfidence – punish them for it and be ruthless, do not let them recover.
Unblockable is unreflectable, it was a bug.
No one is suggesting Fire+Air gets removed in a vacuum, other things obviously need to happen at the same time. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be removed (reverting the CD sharing update would be my prefered choice).
Exactly the way WoW used to work, although they had a much larger gap at one time and look what a mess that was.
How long does it take to make all that ascended armour and weapons? Just wondering how long a new player would take to get those stats.
It entirely depends, i have two people in my guild with less then 700 AP that have almost fulls sets of ascended armor, while i myself with 9.4k have 3 ascended armor pieces, on my entire account. Just depends on how badly they want and or decide they need it, and to what extent they are willing to go to get it.
This should be the end of the thread right here, Asc only matters as much as the individual feels it matters. Its not game breaking, its a small time sink for those who want it – no reason to abolish it just so you can drag some people back a few steps.
So do people want Asc removed because they don’t have it? Why is this line of thinking even being entertained? There will be things in this life that you won’t have – doesn’t give you the right to demand their removal xD
- Lost Time and Chronophantasma are very strong, Quickness on Shatter doesn’t seem able to compete unless traited with Furious Interruption
Remember IP will be baseline – you can use CoF for quickness Mirror Blades. The trait is better than you think.
The reason for melee chains is to reward you for staying next to the target for more time, Mesmer scepter is extremely clunky with its chain (one of the reasons it stays out of meta even though its been buffed a ridiculous amount through the game’s life). I would maybe like to see people looking into ranged chains but it needs to be done well or we’ll just end up with more Mesmer scepters OR things that are far too dangerous and easy to hit.
Good list but you forgot..
kitten SBOW!!!!!!
I love jumping puzzles, can’t wait for more in HoT.
Doesn’t this mess up ground targetted skills? (requiring you to face the point you want it and from a certain distance)
Spawn many unicorns by stomping the NPCs. Seriously though let me go use the 1v1 arena while queuing again..
Gem store items are NOT in-game events.
Actually sales are events… Pretty sure they have special names these days (heard Super Monday, Black Friday etc over Christmas to say the least). You can say YOU don’t see them as events BUT the world of business does and Anet is a business. If you’re going away for an extended period ask a friend or family member to check for you.
All these things have absolutely nothing to do with the mechanical knowledge of PvP, buildcrafting or the in depth intricacy of countering your enemy
Ssshhhh the masses will start getting ideas above their station if you start saying things like that (we don’t want another revolution on our hands).
Remember with Elite Spec you’ll drop utilities and an elite for a new set, I feel Moa will be the elite we drop given f5.
Shirtless is an option.
Just take off your chest armor.
You cannot do this and keep PvP armour levels or Rune Bonus. Its not a valid option for playing.
You already have the option… just take off your shirt! Some players do that. Maybe not in high level fractals and WvW, and somewhat rarely in PvP, but in general PvE just… take your shirt off?
Then I lose Rune Bonus in PvE and take extra damage in PvP, I want to do more than sit in town.
Yeah, but come on… PvE is faceroll enough, you’ll be 100% fine without rune bonus and chest piece stats in open world, and probably dungeons too.
And while I personally wouldn’t PvP without chest piece, I see shirtless characters fairly regularly in unranked.
I’m just saying that if you want to ditch the chest piece bad enough, you can do it.
I only play PvP and lvl 50 Fractals, I just would like the option to have my character look how I wish while playing – as do the majority of posters in this thread. If you’re not against the idea (as you advocate removing the top) why not support the addition of a toggle button?
Because I don’t necessarily want to deal with the fallout of every troll character running around in a yellow bra. :/
As you’ve said they can do that already… Trolls don’t care about stats, real players do – real players are those who lose out with no option.

You’re trying to put your rules and constructs on a world which doesn’t match any notion of your design. We have quaggan backpacks – get over your desires to control what people wear and what we look like.
Actually no.
I’m putting what the already existing conventions of this game are. I’m not the one who set the genre here. If I did things would have ended up very different – the over-abundance of all this steampunk is what drove me away from GW2 for the last 2 years; if we were to make my list of how things should have gone- we’d be having conversations about Elona and Kaineng City; and the armor style genre conventions those two allowed for.
That there are costume items doesn’t change that.
You are the one advocating for a change – so the burden to justify it and explain why your toon shouldn’t end up dead for not wearing gear, is on you.
I did just justify light.
Medium
I’m a Ranger I have used my knowledge of the wilds to create an oil that when put on my body can deflect any blow.
I’m a Thief the extra weight slows my reflexes and I can avoid critical hits just as easily with having access to greater freedom of movement.
I’m an Engineer I’ve design a microfilament suit tough as hardened leather waifer thin and see through.
Heavy
I’m a Warrior, Conan is my hero.
I’m a Guardian the power of Dwayna protects me through faith alone.
All done, also if you’ve been gone 2 years stop trying to mess up what current players want xD
I think its definitely coming, they want Confusion to be a thing in pve and are introducing Slow. I agree it would be a good addition and make the game more interesting – as long as they kept the powerful attacks at an interuptable speed.
I can’t see any reason to allow shirtless. This isn’t a KungFu or Rambo simulation… :P
- Nor is the genre ‘Sword and Sorcery’ but is instead ‘Steampunk’.Are you under the impression that ONLY KungFu, Rambo or Sword&Sorcery people ever go about shirtless? Seems like a very narrow view. GW2 is a mix of many different art styles and looks, all people are wanting is another option.
No but I -AM- under the impression that those are the primary 3 genres where you can run around ‘without an outfit’ and not be killed in seconds by somebody with a sharp stick or fast moving metal stone.
Just as, in the genres where we have been conditioned to remove our helmets thanks to hollywood – this is actually a very good way to end up missing a head… or a body, depending on which end ends up in the camera after your first encounter with the enemy… but we accept it because its how actors get billing for the resume…
In the history of Asian military campaigns, the guy doing spin kicks while wearing a farmer’s outfit ended up dead… thanks to the guy in armor with a big sword… and in wars from WWI up to modern day, the Rambo hero that took off his helmet… decorated the cammo of the guy next to him with brains thanks to the sniper… and as for Sword and Sorcery… an armor style that comes from the ancient greeks… well, back then pretty much everybody ended up dead, and war was grizzly… and then Romans came along, dressed in armor, and conquered them so fast nobody even had time to change the religion or switch out the local statues…
We’re in a Steampunk MMO.
This genre isn’t known for shirtless barbarians and shirtless Shaolin guys with nunchuks. Nor is it known for actors who have accents even in their native language, and hang out in film noir jungle scenes talking about depression…
- Shirtless isn’t in the script for this genre.
I’m a Mesmer playing with the expectations of my opponents and forcing them to believe there is weakness when there isn’t, what they see is what I tell them to see and if I want them to see me topless I can.
I am an Elementalist I weave a current of air around my body that deflects as well as the most intricate silk.
I am a Necro I have caused the top layer of my skin to die and created an armour from the putrifying flesh hard as leather.
Light armour done and thats all I care about anyway. I’m justifying it this way to humour you, nothing but a bit of fun. You’re trying to put your rules and constructs on a world which doesn’t match any notion of your design. If you want “shirtless” you could always go Sylvari. Their T1 cultural light coat is probably the smallest piece of “clothing” in this game. With that being said, the reason I went with as little clothing as possible on my Sylvari is because of their unique glow patterns, since you can’t see any of that wearing the many dresses and robes in this game.
I want a shirtless human male though not sylvari.
Is he a heavy class? The Scallywag Chest is probably your best bet, if they’re medium or light, I’m not sure.
Light, no armor is sufficient, hence my wish for the option.

We have a variety of traits to choose for different situations, I think maintaining the fall damage traits is a good thing – it opens space for their use in designing areas and content. Don’t close off a unique feature just because it isn’t used often.
I would definitely like this option, anyone against it can just not take advantage of the option (just like with gloves, shoulders and helm).
I could not be more excited about the mesmer buffs, especially to interrupt builds! They killed clone death builds seemingly but now IMO interrupt looks very strong like shatter and possibly condi too? ( I don’t play it so dunno)
IP is baseline! Seriously yassss. And all mesmers will be forced to get DE? I don’t even use it right now as interrupt, I find it kills my sustain damage (phantasms) and I have plenty of clones to shatter for boon removal as it is. OP is wayyyy overreacting
If you aren’t using DE you’re doing it wrong, the OP is correct in that we need to take Dueling BUT we had to do that anyway and now get access to more powerful traits across the board (up to 3 of our currently selected traits are now baseline lol).
Erm Mesmer got buffed.. A LOT, tbh everyone did (did I hear war LBow getting burning on auto attack correctly? O_o). DE being a GM trait only matters if you wanted to take a different GM from Dueling, you MUST spec into 3 lines so you’d be forced to spec into Dueling all the way if DE was GM or Adept.
I think we’ll all need a base hp increase of 10k to survive this giant round of buffs. Some people say power creep, Anet do power parades.
I doubt we’ll get f5, they will convert our existing shatters into different effects imo. But yer just offhand shield is a little disappointing cause no matter what Josh says the auto attack DOES define how the spec is played.
These items will manifest automaticly in the first week or 2 of expansion, people will pay ANYTHING to be first with pretty new skins when no one knows how rare they will be.
