Mesmers can trash thieves in general. It just takes a really really good mesmer. S/D is only hard because landing a burst is super hard since they evade 50% of the time and landing a well timed burst on a good player in general is usually tricky. d/p can get really trashed by a mesmer if you break their stealth. If it were pure dueling, mesmer would win most of the time if they were using CI

Good(!) d/p thief beats good mesmer (CI too) IMO. D/p aware of lockdown mesmer would’t use easy interruptible blackpowder+hearseeker combo too much. Blind and damage spam through shadow shot + positioning behind mesmer back (for harder blind cleanse through AA) + dodging + LoS + active shortbow use + roots through panic strike and surpise shot + good auto and frequent sigils procs + good use of stolen stability = fight in thief favor. It is true that mesm have more chances against d\p then sw\d, but still thief has upper hand.
Ppl just don’t meet lockdown mesmer often, so still not adapted to fight him in general, but it matter of practice.
Thief has lesser weapon coodowns (if assume iniative is global weapon CD), i.e. more frequent use of burst/pressure

LOL what a joke. Again, D/P is done as soon as its stealth is broken. The matchup is very much in favor of the mesmer because of how easy it is to interrupt them and because of how predictable the d/p rotation is and how easy it is to interrupt with how many you already have.

It actually would make sense in Illusions trait line, and inspiration is actually the more phantasm-focused traitline (15% dmg on phantasms and whatnot) But IC is so kitten important! If anything, maybe move confusion on shatter to somewhere else? Hard to say.

But that’s why I said remove IC entirely and just reduce cooldowns across the board.

Gameplay changing? You mean Mesmer having the resource it needs for its class mechanic?

The way you’re talking is like you fear a Mesmer readily having clones out/access to clones as base would be a bad thing. When in reality it is almost always the difference between viability and not.

The only gameplay change here is functionality vs redundancy.

No I’m saying that clone on dodge changes how the Mesmer plays dramaticly and say a Phantasm Mesmer who wants to keep up 3 Phants being forced to take it isn’t very clever. Moving it to the Illusion 3 Minor Trait with a buff to clone skill recharges makes most sense.

I’m thinking of the whole game and balance – you’re just grabbing at something that is obviously uncharacteristicly strong and out of allignment with how the game is made.

Actually these “the roots die to 2 hits” comments are a little incorrect – as a Mesmer I have to Blurred Frenzy AND Illusionary Persona Wrack Shatter to kill a root binding me. They are tougher than some people are letting on.

sPvP gives all its gear related stats through an amulet, no special buffs like food etc. work here. Its a more competative and balanced system.

Your argument is poorly supported. Before you cry about thieves status you should acknowledge the strength of S/D. S/D acrobatic thieves have the most accessibility to evades/dodges than any other builds in game, and many warrior hammer skills have the most obvious animations in game. So you really are just making yourself look bad by saying you get caught in stun chain and was unable to break out of it.

Back to mesmer, I want to re-emphasize mesmer’s role in boon stripping as Selya suggested. We all know that mesmer’s have the highest accessibility to boon strip, so why isn’t mesmer dominating celestial meta? Mesmers should be the nemesis for builds that heavily relied on boons, yet mesmers are rarely seen in teams. Maybe its because mesmer’s boon strip can’t match the speed of boon reapplication, or maybe the need to defensive peel far outweighs ways to make opponent vulnerable. Either way the state of celestial meta plus lack of mesmers shows that mesmer has become lackluster in fulfilling its role in boon stripping.

There are still a lot of underused mesmer traits, perhaps future updates can try to give them more purpose. A good example will be changing furious interruption to corrupt boons on interrupt; bountiful disillusion allows illusions to steal boon for mesmer when destroyed (with CD) etc.

I quite like that idea for Furious Interuption, nice thought and not crazy OP.

Why do you want to remove Marjory and Kasmeer though? I agree the writing isn’t the best thing ever here but your title is pretty specific and I explained some good points about Kas. You seem to have picked these 2 characters, then retreated to ‘all the writing is bad’ without backtracking on them, while maintaining you were worried about homophobic assumptions being made (which could be avoided with “The writing could be improved” as your title and discussing that rather than running right into “Remove the lesbians but not in a homophobic way” <- because thats exactly what the homophobes say xD).

One of the things that contributed to me not wanting to play in a team seriously was that if I had an off day or played a little worse than my best the team would suffer greatly. I couldn’t take the stress of being the obviously vulnerable link for others and ruining their night.

I am no where near the ability level of Misha or Helseth but certainly not such a bad player that this crippling effect is down to me alone (I fully admit I have a high variance on my play so I’m not without blame).

I understand where OP is coming from though. Luckily the people I tend to play with are happy to accept the risk and don’t ask me to change – this said though I wouldn’t want to subject them to the horrors of a string of bad nights just because I’m not at 80%+ of my cap while trying to be a serious team.

Power Block and Thieves

Guys do you not remember it did affect Thieves when it was added – but it also caused Stomping and Resing and Auto Attacks to be unusable for 10secs. This is why it doesn’t any more. You can ask them to look again and separate out what keeps Thief 0CD out from AA, Res, Stomp but it seems like a bit more work than most people are thinking.

Kasmeer has probably the best arc of all the characters we have as companions. She went from sheltered Nobility, to penniless sunbather, to part time investigator, her Mesmer powers detected the Tower of Nightmares (which she and Marjory were inside for a very long time and it still affects them), to falling for Marjory and finally going mad with rage and being the only person with us to rush and kill Scarlet at the end. She has her political past which links her to Anise and the group of powerful Mesmers in the heart of human society. She had to deal with being the partner of a strong person knocked hard by grief (even though Belinda was clearly introduced with ‘DEAD’ carved into her forehead).

Kasmeer is a nervous character who is unsecure in her place in the world because she lost it all once – she’s a pretty compelling character. It might just be Mesmer bias but she’s the person I most enjoy questing with because I feel she’s grown with us.

I feel like as a whole, Kasmeer would have been more enjoyable if she had a temperament that was more like Cynn’s.

Having a partly bratty character develop more humble habits would be both more realistic and entertaining to watch. In addition to this, she would then clash a little with Taimi which would be great to see, imagine the dialogue possibilities.

Unless they’re still saving Cynn’s trope for another future character. I miss that bitter girl.

As much as I enjoy a girl who lives for burning Charr they are very different people – Cynn was traumatised as a kid, Kasmeer doesn’t have that much hatred in her.

The only hope I’m holding onto now is that Shield alters our scepter/sword in some way – but its a very slim hope. We need a new mainhand, for PvP Mesmers are locked into GS atm because there is no other reliable power ranged option this means we can then choose Staff or Sw/X. Mesmer is the most “locked” class in the game – we REQUIRE so many options to be discounted for viability that an offhand does not cut it.

Assuming the Shatters get reworked I’m excited for that but I still feel without an new Mainhand we will not have the revolutionary change to our class we all hope for – engi gets a melee weapon kitten xD

On top of that Shield will almost certainly require a Phantasm summon (unless they are redoing all our weapons through Specialisation and a TRUCKLOAD of traits). So we end up with 1 Skill that changes our weaponset gameplay…

People need to understand how these skills work – they are Shadowstep mechanics not Teleports. Shadowsteps require a path your char can walk to reach the location without jumping (Blink and Thief ports are here), Teleports move you from point to point without the “no jumping” restriction (Portal is here). These Blink spots in Forest are completely legit – the path to walk there is past the beast up the back.

None of the Blink spots in this thread are “unintended” or “exploits” I don’t think any of the people calling for this proposed change understand what they are asking (or much else for that matter).

Imbued Diversion- where should it really go?

I think a cunning way for them to get us to use different GM Shatter traits would be for Illusionary Persona to grant ALL Shatter effects for the Mesmer, Imbued Diversion to grant IP’s effect for Diversion along with the AoE Rupt (and similarly for others – for example Mindwrack triggers on Mesmer for Shatter = Healing and CoF triggers on Mesmer for Shatter Conditions).

We just will never choose to lose that control and choice IP gives us otherwise.

If its an offhand we get 2 skills, 1 will likely be a phantasm unless the specialisation alters EVERY offhand/2h weapon and a large portion of traits to not include phantasms. This is very disappointing. Mesmer has some of the best offhands already – we do not need more choice here – give us a mainhand please.

Zerker Meta Would be Awful.

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of people wanting to nerf celestial amulet so that the game can go back to the Zerker meta. They claim that in a meta like that, it would take high skill and be very quick paced. People want to believe that’ll be the case but, in actuality it’ll be awful. Full zerker team comps basically NEED Thief/Mesmer to be viable because they provide team defense in the form of stealth. What teamfights will come down to is whole teams camping in stealth and then whoever leaves stealth first gets instagibbed. That’ll lead into a snowball and then a fast and easy 3 cap, and then they’ll spawn camp, just like any cele comp, but much faster. 3 people spamming random crap on someone and killing them doesnt take skill. The reason why this doesn’t work right now is because of the synergy of the celestial classes. Take that away and we get this.

Do you guys really want a zerker meta?

We certainly don’t see Cele teams snowballing do we, or did you not watch the finals?

I get very upset by Thieves camping sbow and refuge for 20-40secs after missing each Steal in that window, finally hitting one and Fire+Air procing me down with Prot burried under so many boons they cannot be pressured away.

I also get very upset when opponents fail to hit anything except auto attacks and weapon swaps relying entirely on Sigils to win. I’ve had death breakdowns of long team fights where the highest damage was Poison fighting against classes who cannot produce it naturally.

This is extremely frustrating.

I do try very hard however to stay sane – not always successfully though (only human – but Lyssa is there to help).

I’m really surprised people are trying to argue against this (one on semantics of all things)… It clearly does 1900+ and should only do 1500, needs fixed (yes we’re all aware that other projectiles benefit from it too but none of them get an extra 400+ hence why its the most commonly noticed and felt).

Note no one else has requested other projectiles be exempt from whatever change is required tooo.

In GW1 you had total control over the skills you selected, GW2 we are bound by weapons this is the main difficulty in tasking the separation.

I still think its a good idea though – might get a stronger roll out of this idea with the exp (fingers crossed).

The Battles Are Annoying.

the battles are in no way hard, but they are boring, tedious and take too much time.
the boss battle especially.
u should base those battles off of Zelda when u repeat the cycle 3 times and that what gives the satisfaction. 3 times is not too much and not too little.

the last battle in the living story took me an hour, after 4 times repeating the cycle I started watching tv, when he got to half health I went for a launch break.
seriously if it gets to the point when I do a battle only to finish it and do other stuff meanwhile it means the battle is bad designed.

this is not hard, this is not challenging, this is just tedious.

The final boss takes 2 cycles.

Actually its not just Rapid Fire, ranger’s lbow has very different mechanics, every attack seems to channel into the next – you can get 2 casts tracking a target in stealth. Also if you notice you can’t Stow Weapon to cancel attacks (you get the full CD) – because of this “every attack is a channel” issue.

Saying it is just Rapid Fire is incorrect, all the attacks channel – not sure if its a feature or bug though.

Putting 5/8 classes being vigor boon kitten and energy sigils aside,

a dodge is 1s inuvlnerable every 10s.

Stabilty like every boon will be minimum 1 second duration.

So 1+1=2 means you cant setup your burst on a Reve 20% of time

GG Anet, oh and NO we dont want more immobilize stacking and
YES hooray since all necros will rellol anyway

So what’s wrong with stability on dodge?
Thieves get dodge on dodge(15 energy for 50, dodge every 3.5 seconds under vigor which they also have) and are somewhat invulnerable 70-80% of the time in S/D spec.

That is a terrible arguement… “Whats wrong with X? Y is ludicrously broken!” Two things can be OP you know.

I see they are reworking Stab and thats all very interesting but attaching it to something as universally available to the Rev as Dodge is very dangerous. Just think do you want Dodge → Heal with Stab to be available? Quite a few classes need to use timing to CC and burst after a dodge, adding an extra second (this is an assumption btw – could be more) of immunity to that CC and burst gives a Rev player so much extra thinking time.

Dodge is already an extremely powerful mechanic adding the most influential boon to it seems a bit too far.

I already did. Unless you are seeing half the people rage over an engi build every time rather than being smart like many are (kill them with ranged/condies, 1v2 or avoid if it’s a bad matchup for you) then what you’re assuming is a majority is actually just a highly valued minority. It’s a very well known fact people give more value to those opinions that match their own. Check out the forums. A few notable people complain. Many tell them to get over it and learn to play or avoid a bad match up, and many more then either side literally doesn’t care. Technically speaking, both pro and anti-turrets are both minority speakers.

Just to check but your 3 options were “kill them with ranged/condies, 1v2 or avoid” well that sounds reasonable and not at all like a hand holding AI build. What did you say you played again..? It began with M…

You don’t have enough experience fighting them – you should itterate on the fight several times THEN if it still feels like you can do nothing its OP or L2P. I suggest kiting the weapons while killing the Hammer then you can attack the Guard – watch out for Shelter and at 25% he may put an 11k Burn on you so have something ready.

But yer kite til Hammer despawns/dies then its easy.

I think thats too much to hope for – every weapon set contains a Phant summon and at least 1 clone summon. I don’t think they mentioned the specialisation would change weapon skills (besides giving access to different weapons).

Its pretty important to cover yourself from steal recharges and also the best stunbreaker you can take outside blink (freeing up blink to be used for mobility and bursting).

They insta-made everyone rank 80 with one patch?

I knew so many dudes who were grinding a ton to get to rank 80. Those people all quit because there was no rank system anymore.

It was maybe the strangest decision ever made. It seemed like someone who thought they knew everything about the game got giving free reign to just let their ideas run rough-shot unchecked over the game.

In fact that is what development has felt like for pvp on this game for 18 months or so. There seems no checks and balances on ideas at anet with some terrible ideas just suddenly popping up on live servers when nobody ever asked for them.

I have little hope for the expansion. It is like if ONE person (any of us) was put in charge of an aspect of the game it would suck. It is hard to find our own mistakes. Seems like collabarative development truely was just a PR exercise.

The reason they removed ranks as progression is because Skyhammer farming had gone of for ages and the rank system served no purpose and had no legitimacy. So they just removed it from the game – you can’t say Anet killed it for no reason it was destroyed for a very obvious reason (them letting Skyhammer farming exist for so long is another argument).

Note I’m not saying there shouldn’t have been something else put in its place but the old system was nonsense and needed removed.
