The charr weren’t “tricked” and they don’t think the Searing was a mistake – talk to the charr in Iron Marches near the Searing Cauldron still there, and they will explain that while the thing needs to be destroyed, it is not for its past use but for the potential dangers to themselves it holds. And they certainly weren’t tricked by Khilbron – the charr likely never even met the vizier.

While true that the charr did not blow up Orr (nor was it “humans” who were tricked into it – it was just one man, Khilbron, who did so knowingly after being converted to the faith of Abaddon), they did have the full intention of causing another Searing in Orr, they just didn’t reach Arah yet, where it seems they were going to set off the Searing at. You can find a total of at least 3 Searing Cauldrons in the Straits of Devastation, between and aroud the Vizier’s Tower and Broken Spit – a fourth one was recovered from the temple of Dwayna, moved there by the risen.

And the charr were not tricked into attacking Orr, Ascalon, and Kryta. They did so intentionally, though directed by the titans – thus the force behind them: Abaddon – but they would have attacked Ascalon regardless, as they had been doing for over a thousand years.

And Adelbern was not tricked into causing the Foefire – he did it fully knowing the consequences, but he was also demented, fallen into madness by the death of his son, the loss of his nation (which the charr burned then conquered), and his hatred for Krytans and charr alike.

Shiro being tricked is questionable, but like Khilbron he was converted by Abaddon’s agents into following the fallen god. His actions do not reflect humanity at a whole. Otherwise, it’d be like comparing the Flame Legion’s actions or the Shaman Caste’s actions reflecting the actions of the charr on a whole. Such as banning all females from fighting just because of a single female warrior and her underground movement.

Yeah the nerve of those Charr wanting their home land back. Who do they think they are living on the humans’ land for hundreds of years before the humans even showed up in Tyria?

I’m sorry but if humanity lives in Ascalon for 1000 years the Charr have ZERO claim on it, can you imagine Italy demanding all of Europe, North Africa and parts of the Middle East were theirs by right because Rome held them 1000 years ago.

No the Charr are bloodthirsty monsters that waged 1000 year war against a people who put up a WALL – didn’t go into Charr territory and slaughter them in their homes – they built a WALL to hide behind. What do these animals do? Savagely attacked for centuries and when it looked like they were finally tired of war, they caused the Searing. Burned the whole area to the ground – turned the water to tar – killed every living human they found. Spreading like a plague across the whole continent until vast magical powers pushed them back.

The Charr just want war, their “family” units are called Warbands! If there isn’t anything else they can kill they turn on each other. This species is dangerous, do not approach and exterminate when possible.

I like to go into a Soloq match with the firm belief that I’m entering a very long coin toss for the outcome, just have fun playing and let the coin land in time. If you try to put a structure of “we tried hard but X or Y happened” (X, and Y can be people or anything else) you wil go MAD – random arenas give random results. You can influence them a bit but 1 team will always have the worst collection of players, classes, attitudes, connections – if you’re on that team you’ll have a bad time or you can be on the other team and a good one.

Coin toss with some pewpew and running around – takes a lot of the stress out of what is a noncompetative game mode. Deep breaths ^^

Funny you should say that. The models the Tengu use are just reskinned Charr models.

Ha! Didn’t know that, perhaps we should be more careful around these Tengu.. But if they removed the skin of the Charr they’re walking around in then they get a ‘thumbs up’ from me

What’s the obsession over SAB? I hardly ever see anyone using the weapons or titles from that place, so I doubt more than a very few spent enough time in there to be bothered getting them. I personally did though, and it was a mixed experience, one I’m in the end glad I don’t have to go through again.

Doing the new storymode and getting achivements from it and Dry Top, collecting coins etc., had a SAB light feeling to it. If it’s just for the old-school graphics, then this game probably isn’t the right one to be playing.

SAB was a whole new fantasticly designed area to take your beloved GW2 char through (you get to play Mario 64 on your own avatar!), people respond well to it because you can tell there was real passion in making it and it is awesome open to everyone content. Its a fan favourite and rightly so, people from every aspect of the game from PvP to RP really connect with it – hence the constant going on about it xD

As said above the only skills that can give you revealed are from Sic ’em (Ranger) and Utility Goggles (Engi) and both are EXTREMELY rare to come across, other times you can get it through actions of others is from being knocked out of shadow refuge.

The only other ways to get revealed with the frequency you’re describing is through your own actions – damaging in stealth, running out of shadow refuge. I think you need to look at what you’re doing and adjust accordingly.

It is an extremely frustrating amulet, the “Jack of all Trades” aspect is tuned too highly – they are too close to being full condi/full tank/full zerk spike. They need to cut away at how well they fill all those roles at the same time. “Master of None” needs to be a real thought in mind when creating such an amulet and I feel they may have focused too much on making a Jack.
Unfortunately I think because Might Runes, Fire+Air, Celest are all relatively new additions to the game it will be a while before ANet deal with them. I think though we would all rather see nerfs to these extras than nerf to our classes which use them – so even if you’re a Celest LBow War you SHOULD be speaking out against them.
In short I agree with Bullet on both fronts – Celest OP and its here for a while :*(

Enlighted : Feedback of players is what makes a game fit inplayers taste. What youa re saying is to us NOT talk about what we dislike, so anet just keep making what they want without care what plkaers want? You know, this will comes to a point where no ones will come to play the game (Also, no one making paid process as indicating the game to other ppl to buy, or buying gems). I as myself have made a lot of feedbacks talking about things I liked in the game, but its not the pretty words that makes the you become better, its the critiques. As a designer, Game Designer and a screenwriter, I’ve received several and several heavy critiques on works that I liked a lot, and did not received a single good word about it. It just made me remake and being better. Your sense of critiques are a bad thing, don’t fits in the real/professional wrold, so, or you are just a casual player that don’t work with this sort of stuff (And I don’t care if you are), or you are a child that will yet have to taste about what I’m talking.

I know it’s good to have critiques, but it’s not healthy to have nothing but negative feedback. I very rarely see the community saying good things about Anet. It’s always just the bad stuff. If we only ever tell them what we don’t like and never what we do, then how are they supposed to make the game better. The idea that we should only tell them that we don’t like their game is stupid. It doesn’t encourage improvement. It doesn’t encourage anything. Yes, it’s okay to say that you don’t like parts of the game, but most of what I hear in map chat and see on forums is along the lines of “everything Anet touches turns into crap.” What does that accomplish? Nothing positive, I can assure you. if that’s all anyone ever said about you, (this is for everyone in the community who only ever complains about Anet,) then you’d probably give up. telling the devs what we like is just as important as telling them what we don’t like. I just wish people would encourage Anet, not discourage them.

Thats not entirely fair, the forums were (quite rightly) enthused over the improved quality in S2 and we’ve been asking for more Anise+Canach and more SAB (both showing to be fan favs and the feedback is for more of a good thing). We’ve enjoyed the season BUT 4 episodes on and then a rather big gap just kind of kills the momentum they had going and people are quite correct in pointing that out.

I think thats the main thing people are struggling with, the stop start nature – exciting world and then an empty one. Getting the balance of releases and keeping momentum with some great content needs to be the focus of ANet. (I agree though that some people do not articulate this very well) (Also SAB is awesome and keeps everyone happy – please return asap ^^)

You will need to practice Shatter, thats kind of why people don’t like PU because it doesn’t take much effort to get good results. However Shatter played well and played a lot you will be far more useful and be naturally required to know and play around many game mechanics – making you a more useful team member.
Shatter Shatter Shatter – understand WHEN you need to burst and you’ll be a threat.

Private servers have the standard models option available, you see the original char when observing but when you play you fight vs a standard model. Now I’m not sure whether an option needs to be ticked by the server’s owner or if just setting yourself to std models is enough but its definitely possible to have std models in dueling servers etc. (Angz has it).

Just mentioning again that you see the original model if you’re observing but it changes to std model when you enter to play.

Retaliation scales with your power. Retaliation damage has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of incoming damage. It simply returns a flat amount of damage that is based on your power per hit taken. Many hits = many retaliation hits returned, but each retaliation hit is the same scaling off of your own power.

This is correct, any differences in damage will likely be changing Might stacks.

Just to point out Might doesn’t do anything for the Phants if its on them – they do however benefit from Might stacks on the Mesmer.

I would LOVE Sig of Illusions to have no cast time but its the only one I’m focused on being changed to be usable. The others are either good for their purpose and shouldn’t be buffed more or need a complete rework to be worth the slot – even fully traited for Distortion and Condi Remove i would still take Blink over Sig of Midnight.

I think they mean you to go into DS to fear someone and exit to continue casting then you get jumped by a thief – this resets the DS and lets you hide in it again. Its for unexpected attacks after you choose to leave DS early to save the LF.

Zerker is better for WvW. The reason people like to use Assassins is for reflecting high damage PvE mobs (it uses your Crit stats but the enemy Power).

Shatter is a great spec, you’ll learn to use your shatters and gives you burst and boon removal. 4/4/0/0/6 – your choice of weapons really but GS is pretty important for WvW imo.

Mind Wreck damage was scaled differently. 1 clone did 50% damage, 2 clones does 80% damage, 3 clones do 100%

Mind Wrack already works like this – its why Illusionary Persona is so powerful with 1 clone as it turns a single clone shatter with the mesmer into a shatter almost equivalent to the untraited 3 clone. IP copies the clone damage that each clone would provide – so it makes you into a copy of the single clone shatter and it independently does a single clone shatter. It does not make the shatter equivalent to a 2 clone shatter it makes you into 2x a single clone shatter.

Nullfield on top of a stomp target usually guarantees the kill – I’d choose that. Its got more use to it than just condi removal and its an AoE effect.

What scares me is how the tweaked clone-deaths will actually work.

Since they can be dodged/blinded/ect, does that mean they count as a hit?

Does that mean they’ll proc Retaliation on us? Or counter-attack effects?

Will clone deaths break stealth!?

They don’t do damage they just apply condis – you don’t break stealth if you daze the target from stealth (unless you also cause damage with the effect).

1. 9/10 times steal hits and you win. 1/10 times you miss and need to run a bit (thieves are kitten at running please buff!!) I’d take those odds

The reason the clone teleports to target is because of the skill 3 – the current dodge clones don’t leap to the target because that is caused by the skill 3. I don’t know why people are even discussing this like it would happen.

Ok so let me try and explain. Our damage is lower because we have phantasm/clones. So by letting our damage source be killed we are at a severe disadvantage. Whether you agree or not. The tone of your thread was condescending because I disagreed with your thoughts. The first post about dodge rolling was a half truth since dodging is tied to endurance. So counter play is avoid deaths or bait dodges. This caused you to bring up our core weapon skills which make us a mesmer. The nerf effects all builds not just pu. The threat of our clones is minimized and we have no up front damage.

It doesn’t affect Shatter… Its getting buffed – maybe try that?

Sorry, but I should have stopped reading there…

What Coulter said: “Undodgable things are not good for the game”.

And btw: it is not like every class had an evade on autoattack. There are a few skills like blurred frenzy or Warrior GS3 which will allow players to destroy the clones without getting hit by the condis. But really, if they use these skills to destroy your clones, the trait is working as intended.

Please stop defending your lame build.

I am sorry for posting a controversial thesis, from now on I will only post tautologies so that you will not have to read or respond to supporting arguments.

As for the argument that skills which can not be dodged are bad for the game, I can see where this sentiment is coming from. Dodging is a means of giving the player agency in avoiding damage. I can not, for example, choose when a Mesmer shatters, a Warrior uses 100 Blades, or an Elementalist uses Burning Speed, but I can choose to save a dodge for when these skills are used. This is good for the game and promotes active combat. However, when it comes to things like clone death procs or Retaliation I already have agency in choosing whether to take the damage or not; therefore, I do not need a dodge to avoid this damage. If I don’t want to take clone death damage I can employ strategies which limit AE and Cleave usage. Adding a dodge/block to this simply throws the need to significantly vary tactics depending on the engagement out the window. As a supporting example, it would be pretty silly if while I was playing my Elementalist I could cast Meteor Shower on a zerg that just stacked Retaliation then pop Arcane Shield and dodge roll around to avoid all that damage.

So your agency in beating DD is not destroying the clones, they just buffed Staff and Scepter clone attacks – can you see now why these buffs and nerfs came together? It leaves a window open in the room of kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t.

This change is good for Mesmer strategy and game play anyway – we have access to blurred frenzy and shatter these are aoes and one can be used mid dodge. If anything our class comes out of these changes with more tools to beat Condi Mesmer.

Actually yes, I do just this in my post. If you apply your reading comprehension skills to this post, you will realize that I argue that the reason why more people will run PU is due to the collateral nerfing of non PU based builds that take clone death traits. This is the real travesty in the proposed changes. Now that I have spelled it out for you, I will conclude by stating that if you want to actually take part in a real discussion you should probably also support your views with evidence.

So you still think that them nerfing a build will make people play it more, not turn to other options? They made clone death avoidable because dodge is the primary mechanic of this game and these traits clearly need to have counterplay IF they are buffing 2 clone auto attacks.
I’m not sure what arguement you want to present against “Undodgable things are not good for the game.” but i’d love to hear it. By undodgable I mean things that happen during a dodge and STILL hit you – not something that cannot be dodged on reflex. (I can smell people wanting to read it the other way for subversive attacks)
I would point out Shatter will be buffed next patch – Sword or Staff and GS. Not just Shatter anyone wanting to use those weapons and scepter gets a buff. (The things you need to push buttons to get the effect of btw)

How does x2 Shatter Mes Work?

Best way to deal with most Shatter mesmers as an engi since they have no condi removal is to learn to play around the CD on your 7sec burning proc. You basicly want to single target the mesmer ONLY when thats up to get burning on him then you can use your aoe to clear phants and blocking/kiting/stealthing abilities to wait out the duration then repeat. Poison when it wants to heal. Dodge the izerker and mirrorblade. Your bouncing confusion bolt is also very well suited to fighting mesmers – will hit the mesmer twice (if timed correctly you can blind 2 important attacks). Do NOT underestimate the power of kit swapping on top of the mesmer, the poison/bleed/burn you can proc from your sigils and trait is very strong.

Just beware of the GS ranged damage and work through that process of burn proc (best with a weapon switch) and aoe pressure inbetween while dodging mirrorblade and izerker – you have a good chance of killing it but mesmer GS is a very strong weapon vs engis so don’t get too sad if you lose. Remember clever mesmers will try to trick you into burning their clones as it gives them 10secs where you aren’t as threatening to them – keep track of your burning.

I said it would be a significant buff that we don’t need – I wrote about it in another thread. The cascading effect of the bounces means they weave inbetween dodges and cds and make removal a joke. These clones are already the best and they just doubled in power – people underestimate the amount of pressure they can put out (this is largely down to burning having a stupidly high base damage).

Thats before you even think about Condi Mesmers with Staff AND Scepter – for tPvP you won’t take PU so you have lots of points to spare. The game is going to get really ugly and frustrating very soon. This update will buff our clones to a really disturbing level and people should speak out because it isn’t good for the game.

No. Anet are slow at rolling OP things back, this is a terrifying genie we shouldn’t let out the bottle. The huge condi buff which torment and extra bounce bleed/burn represents will destroy our class – we’ll have facerolling on mesmer to win in any pvp scene. Clones auto attacking will be the most efficient way of ignoring condi removal and applying perma pressure with minimal effort from the mesmer player.

It will be bad for the game as a whole and our profession (I don’t want people to look at mesmers and think, “lol we thought warriors were braindead”). Condi mesmers even avoid using our class mechanic its just that stupid.

Glad this poll exists we need Anet to revise what they are doing BEFORE implementation.
Quick fix – remove the torment from the first bolt (this stops clones using it).

I’m going to assume GS/Staff Shatter here, if not its np just adjust based on your own weapons. To beat a thief with shatter the BEST thing you can do is avoid Steal – this is hard but hear me out. You need to learn the teleport distance and if they turn towards you and run at you directly dodge as they enter that sweet spot distance. Them missing Steal is the single best thing that can happen. Its worth a dodge even if they don’t use it.

Now since that can be difficult and clever thieves (aren’t many but there are enough) will not try to Steal you immediately the next thing you need to learn is to deal with their weapon sets.
Against SD the most effective trick you can learn is dodging Flanking Strike and pushing Shatters at the end of the move where they are vulnerable for an instant – if this damage hits they panic and gives you an advantage. If they turn towards you dodge that tends to indicate a Sword#2 tele. If they run towards a clone use a Shatter – it will stop them stealthing.
Against DP getting an interupt on Heartseeker when they are trying to stealth from Black Powder is the most effective thing you can do – this is difficult because of the blind being shot at you and if you’re on top of him you’ll have the field blinding you too. Chaos Storm and Diversion are the most useful tools – dodging and pushing Diversion while dodging if you’re close will be the best way to hit this. Other than that its dealing with stealth and if you get blinded while the thief is stealthed DODGE because that means they have just used Shadow Shot.
SBow – kitten SBOW… Basicly stay at max range and don’t use Shatters and if possible stay away from your clones.

Now if Steal hits you need to basicly waste time until the boons are gone – don’t bother trying any grand attacks or shatters during this time – also do not use your heal until Poison has run out on you.

Finally you will just need to be a bit lucky – the thief needs to CHOOSE to die. They need to get overconfident or kitten up and not run away – they have the option to run away from you at any point they need to choose to stay and die. You also need to get lucky they don’t get too many Auto Attack Fire+Air procs.

Basicly thieves will kill you with minimal effort and coin flips but good dodging can give you the kill IF they are stupid/overconfident enough to let you.

iLeap has been turned into something similar to Thief Sword#2, I’m sad we lost the exciting play you could have from before the “no swap on clone death” but thats never coming back and at least we have a good gap closer for sword now.

The condi buffs are very dangerous and people who are defending it are really underestimating what the clones applying constant streams of condis will do – remember they will also be causing bleed on crits and bleed/weakness/vuln on destruction too.

Scepter needed work but they have really made it a dangerous weapon for the health of the game. A reasonable tweek to the change would maybe be to remove the Torment from the first bolt – this will stop clones applying it cause they only perform the first attack in the chain. (Assuming they want to keep the Torment on auto at all)

You’re talking nonsense if you think a warrior can reach never mind keep up 25 stacks of bleed in PvP, however giving staff clones a double hit which can proc Burning and have a 2nd chance at critting for Bleed will be OP.

I’m thinking of a fire field that covers an entire point, pulses every couple of seconds applying burning, and has a 7 second cooldown.

I’m thinking of a fast autoattack that cleaves and applies 8 second base duration bleeds.

I’m thinking of a kit that can be used point blank and applies long duration bleeds, burns, chill, and poison.

I’m thinking that bouncing staff clones probably aren’t going to match up to the insane condition application sets that a lot of classes have.

Warriors are OP, you don’t fix that with buffing Mesmers.. You fix that by nerfing Warriors. Please don’t confuse my attempts to keep Mesmers from being OP with me saying the game is perfectly balanced – you don’t help balance by adding more OP nonsense.

But yes you do, instead of nerfing classes, just buff them to be in par with warriors! :p
