Are you serious? That has to be one of the most cheap skills in world vs world. Elementalists are the only class that jumps down off of a tower/keep’s wall and mess with all the opponents, they run around trolling everyone and right when they get downed they mist for right back into the keep and do it over again, i honestly don’t see why this hasn’t been patched, its unfair why can’t other classes do that?

Vengeance lets you run back into keeps too. It just so happens that Vapor Form is easier to access so you see it more.

So…what?

How does the Shadow Return skill change have anything to do with Vapor Forming into a keep? Evidently Arenanet doesn’t think that being able to do so is a bug, so it wasn’t fixed.

Good thing you can (sort of). You just have to use Infiltrator’s Strike at the gate. I still don’t see how it is related though.

I mean, Hide in Shadows makes the Thief invisible and the Elementalists’ healing skill doesn’t. I have a problem with that…said nobody ever.

Just told a friend: “An elemental just replied, I bet”.
I was right, and now I’m done.

Or it’s a bug that wasn’t fixed yet. I mean apparently shadow return was bugged since beta, as are many other skills and traits on Thief and multiple other classes that still aren’t fixed. Why can’t the fix the bugs that weaken us though instead?

Bugged? The only bug Shadow Return had was: it broke when using it a good 15% of the time causing those using it to get killed. Also I will remind you “return to original location” Try this on for size.

They changed the ability, as far as I see it: they couldn’t fix the bug of it breaking on players, so this was the next best fix they came up with.

NOTE: I don’t mind the change, but the distance is too short. 1500, 1800 would have been a better compensation to the players using it. 1200 is the range of most all abilities countering us.

NOTE2: I do not use the 99% spec in this game, so my setup relies on SR for survival, and even then good players could get you down if they really knew the class.

Well, S/P is the spec you’re talking about. It uses Shadow Return (which today now became one of the worst thought out changes in a game).

S/P does NOT rely on stealth, it relies on teleportation for survival and works very well – and it is very difficult to master it as second nature usage.

S/P, when Traited perfectly, dominates D/D & D/P thieves, Warriors and Guardians, Elementals, Necromancers, Rangers and Engineers. The problem is you will have a more difficlut time with Mesmers, but they can’t kill you either. Some Mesmer specs against it just makes them more difficult, but again they’re not able to kill you either.

If you don’t believe me, come to my server and I will gladly show you, and you’ll laugh at how incredible the setup is.

S/P – THE 1% SPEC! (cause every other thief in the game is too scared to try it)

It’s funny how GW1 shadow step return (i.e. Shadow of Haste) works well in comparison to GW2’s shadow return. In GW1, I can go thru doors, under bridge, zig zag alley and still returns to my original location. A simple code research will educate the GW2 team on how GW1 team did it.

I expected that the code and functionality research would be a routine by now before they make any changes…but I guess I gave them way too much credit based on the recent patches.

I could not agree more.

And to add to what the other gentleman above said: “…ORIGINAL LOCATION” <— how can ArenaNet developers not read their own words and actually make a function work the way it ‘was’ originally intended.

New Shadow Return in GW2 will become: “Originally return you to whatever location we chose for this month. Wait for further instructions before using”

At least these developers could have ‘given us a visual location indicator’ showing us “Oh hey, here’s your 1200 range, be aware of it so you know your limits/locations”. I guess this, too, was not suffice for the players.

First ArenNet places Orbs in WvW that basically said: If you’re winning, you get a buff that makes you ‘more’ powerful to dominate even more. That made no sense to me, and still doesn’t — thankfully they have removed the Orbs from WvW until a better format is introduced.

I feel these nerfs are a Dungeon and Dragons game to them: Simply roll dice to see what the ability/stat should be vs. doing hard logic on a change and what should be done to help the play with certain indications to know/understand the abilities actions/reactions.

Intel HD Graphics is just a small GPU chip built into your CPU. It’s great for laptops that don’t require any real graphic power. This saves energy.

A "real"graphics card like Nvidia or an ATI’s graphic cards are bigger, use more energy but are way more powerful.

For example you have 64MB of dedicated VRAM. Never cards have at least 500MB but usually range between 1 and 8GB (8GB VRAM is a LOT and its expensive and right now not worth the price)

VRAM is… wel… RAM for your graphics card. It’s a lot faster than standard DDR3 ram. I can be wrong here but isnt VRAM usually GDDR5?

All your models, textures etc, etc… have to be loaded. And if you don’t have enough memory to do it. it wont work.

So if you want to run it at a higher quality you’ll have to buy a new graphics card. If you want good quality for a low price I recommend one of the nvidia gtx 600 TI series.

I have noticed a lot more latency issues lately, too. Last 3 days have been 1sec – 2sec delays in WvW.

ArenaNet didn’t feed the hamsters before the three-day weekend break :/

I too have the same problem but notice this a ‘tad’ less using different AA compatibility bits for the game (and get better performance):

First of all the ArenaNet GW2 server connections are overloaded when the server has all three servers being bogged with players. I have a great connection, low latency, and this tends to happen to me quite often.

GW2 servers are located in Texas, USA, so your latency issues can also be effected by this if your ‘hops’ to the servers are quite high.

There are some tips to help with this, but again a lot of this falls on the shoulders of ArenaNet — and good luck with anything being addressed by them. (they are a small employed company that lack the staff)

Download and install this Registry fix: http://www.leatrix.com/leatrix-latency-fix
This will turn off the TCP/IP acknowledgement that is ‘not’ needed for Home PCs. This is most important only for businesses transferring important, large scale files across the network that need checks and balances. This will gain you around 200ms if you live within the US and make your skills more responsive.

This can help lower the amount of ‘hops’ your connection has to the servers. The more hops you have, the higher your latency will be to the game servers. (yes this software IS legal and safe to use. It has zero effect on the games client files and or server files — and it uses your main IP address). Also to use it without time-outs, it does have a small fee. It does, however, have a trial, so give this a true.

Hope this information helps, and good luck. Until ArenaNet does something about the servers performance with the player loads (what?) this is all I can offer to you that may help.

So, as advised in this topic a few pages earlier, I did send a full report to the Assistance, with all the data I could (lengthy description of the problem, three Game Advisor reports everytime they’d ask me, I even made a livestream video to show exactly the problem), and after a couple replies, they told me they would be investigating it and would get back to me as soon as they had something new.
I think everyone encountering the problem here should send a lenghty but polite request to the Assistance with all the data from Game Advisor, so they can cross-check what’s wrong and finally find a fix. Complaining on this topic does give the problem attention, but I guess doesn’t help them fixing it, so all we can do is send them formal reports with all the data.

I’ve had a blast with this game for the first four months, and I’m sad I can’t go back after my idling (and for such a stupid, annoying little problem), but I don’t hold any grudges and I just want to help to fix it.

I did this a long time ago my friend. Not sure how we can get their attention to fix the problem. We were told that they were working on this like 7-8 month ago and its still not fixed.

Then look no further! Here is a great simple solution to the problem, and really works.

Most players will say “Windowed Full Screen Mode” will fix the problem. Well technically that doesn’t fix the problem and you are not taking full advantage of the graphics card when you use that setting. So, don’t. You gain better performance and quality when the game is set to fullscreen mode.

This application will lock the mouse on the screen of your choice and prevent the mouse for sliding off to the second monitor causing the game to minimize. I have tried several other applications that do the same thing, but failed miserably. So far this one is the only one that keeps the cursor on the screen along with utilizing your graphics card GPU.

Is it free?
Sort of. The developer of the software does want users to register the software with a $5USD fee. I have not purchased the software and it works fine without registering. Although I am going to purchase the software (thanks ArenaNet for not fixing your game bugs) as it does put a stop to the annoying game minimization crud.

It is only 6Mb download, easy to setup and can be turned on/off by setting up a simple keybind.

Low FPS with EVGA GTX Titan SC

Hi Fixxer,

It is not your GPU thats at fault, the game is being limited by your CPU performance. This game does not require much in the way of a graphics card to run ( a GTX 580 could max out the game if it was not bottlenecked by the CPU )

Did you not thoroughly read what he said? One GPU it was fine, a new one it is not fine. Please read what players post on the forums more carefully.

After release the game was slightly removed off of the CPU bounding, but still, sadly, heavily is. The game does in fact use more of the GPU today than in BETA. The problem he is having is the lack of support within the drivers for the Titan video card. The card is very new and owned by a company that cares more about FPS games than MMO games. It is simply a driver issue.

OP: you’re better off buying two 680’s. The Titan is a nice card, but it is going to lack support for GW2 due to the driver developers at Nvidia who care nothing about MMO games. We’re lucky Nvidia cards even work with GW2.

Also you ‘could’ try this to see what happens. It’s worth a shot:

I only mention this because I’m curious as to the Titan’s response to that compatibility bit. It may work better for you, or not.

Note: Also turn off Reflections (or set to Sky & Terrain only). This is a known issue within the game.

I reported this in BETA, it got ignored. I also reported in BETA that if using dual monitors the mouse tends to run off the screen onto the other one minimizing the game. That, too, got ignored.

Another annoying aspect about the mouse is you can not hold down Left/Right mouse buttons and zoom in and out. Every game I have played allows this but GW2. I reported that, too, in BETA. Guess what? It was ignored, too.

Turn off the game graphics setting “Reflections” (or turn it to Sky & Terrain only). This typically helps a lot as this is one of the biggest performance issues within the game.

If stacking 400% is your thing, then by all means enjoy it. I’ll take more DPS/HP/Toughness/ect., etc., over .005% MF any-day.

As for those who have decided to cheat/hack/exploit — I’m done reporting it. It has done nothing but waste my time and efforts in trying to be a good player playing by the rules and helping out a company I thought cared about this type of behavior by its players.

I’m done trying. I’m better off driving a salt block out to the middle of a desert and licking it for the next 24hrs. I’ll get the same results.

Can't play crab toss

It’s one out of 11 possible achievements, of which you only need to complete 5 for the daily rewards. So far daily achievements have always been a mix of all the different things you can do in game (jumping puzzles, WvW, mini games which now include crab toss) but in my experience there has always been at least 5 that can be done easily and quickly in regular gameplay without doing one jump puzzle, mini game or stepping in WvW at all.

I did tonight’s particularly quick, though, did 4 of them in the thaumanova reactor (daily kill variety, maguuman event completer with one fire elemental + pre-events, daily champion by doing the bonus boss event with the matrix key someone had, and daily recycler by salvaging the stuff I got as drops from doing those), then I had a choice of krytan killer (which includes southsun), daily gatherer or daily condition remover for the 5th one, ended up being condition remover which I finished quickly fighting a couple of drakes, but that’s because as a DPS/support specced guardian I had lots of condition removal options.

Check you Reflections settings in graphic options. Turn this to Sky and Terrain or completely off. This is one of the largest perforce hits in the game currently. Give that a shot.

I have tested the MF in this game several times in many ways. MF is nothing but a placebo. If you feel it works good for you. No harm in that.

*Note: prior to this event a friend of mine farmed our legendary mats.. We saw around 1 drop per hour per person. After the event we see around 3 an hour. He had MF and I had Zero MF. We both got the same drop rates. Multiple days, multiple times. The only thing we have noticed is that they have increased the drop rates IN THE ZONE. MF has done nothing for our chances. *

But I see the exact drop rates with and without 260% MF in this game.

AION did this same garbage with their players making them believe that something was placed in the game to increase drop rates. People started doing calculations and found the company had done nothing.

MF = Placebo, nothing more. It’s a sugar pill to relieve Aunt Bee’s so called chronic pain she think she has.

no cnd on mobs? you are taking away from what a thief does….uses his environment to be sneaky and tactical …..jump in and jump out. strike and dissapear. none of which works well in zerg fighting….hence why thieves stay on the outside. all of our defense is revovled around stealth. if we had more HP i think i could live with no stealth……like if our base HP was up with warriors and we had the same defense.

right now we have the worst overal defense worst boons no blocks no invulnerability and tied for worst hp pool. this is why we have stealth. unless you change most of those…..u cant take stealth away. i would prefer tied for highest hp….average game defense and regular boon access and blocks and invul……in expchange for stealth….u know since mesmers outdmg us and warriors are on par.

I, however, go into massive groups on my server and take out players over and over by teleporting in and out. I get touched, but I get out before dying. This is very, very untrue. We do not need blocks, we do not need invulnerability and we do not need massive HP. I’m not sure what setup you’re playing, (assuming you’re D/D since you mentioned you might be using CaD?) so I can’t answer you directly, but what you’re saying is not how a thief in this game works . . . . by any means. We are “go in, kill, escape” artists. We are a tactical fighter, not a bludgeoned fighter like most of the classes in this game.

I do see a very, very huge nerf coming to my setup soon. A bunch of players watched me teleport behind a group of 30 people over and over as they tried to kill me. I simply toyed with them the entire time without using stealth one single moment for about 15min. They pulled me in, I teleported out. I made them chase me down, I teleported behind them. Over and over they were unable to touch me, hardly, and I walked away.

At some point ArenaNet is going to say “Enough” and nerf SR horrible. When that day comes, I will be done with the game (it’s bad enough it has massive bugs in mass fights). I don’t need stealth to be tactical against who I am fighting. I choose when I want to hit them without needing stealth. I choose when I will start and end the fight. If things get bad, I get out and go back in when I am ready, not them.

if ur talkin trolling anyone can set up an evade troll build…..unless ur picking on upscales it doesnt have the go go to do anything agsint 20 people…. would have to back bold accusations with a video which is very easy to make.

I am simply done talking with you at this point. You have clearly demonstrated your lack of understanding of this class and are looking for an argument that I do not care to have with you that will lead to a lonely path.

Please know that SR is “Shadow Return” and has nothing to do with Evade ability.

Ok I don’t really mind this at all, I don’t play the favored spec anyway so I don’t use stealth all day long like many.

My problem is this
People are greatly, greatly going to abuse this if something has not been put in place to:

- Not allow traps to be placed/stacked next to each other endlessly
Not allowed to place the same trap next to one already placed on the ground of the same type. Same type of traps must be X amount of yards/meters from the same type of trap already placed down within the same area.

My build I don’t rely on stealth to take down my enemy, so for me I don’t see the new Trap a problem, I just see where it is going to be abused by players. Hopefully the developers have already implemented this type of scenario in their creation process of this new ability in WvW.

“noob that doesn’t use stealth?” (yet I’m sticking up for the stealth spammers, ok?)

I rely on SR’ing on my enemies as that is my survival. However the ability has been bugged since BETA. I have placed in countless tickets and emails in hopes of getting it fixed. As of right now it is exploitable — but you can’t avoid exploiting it because it is in fact so horribly bugged (basically it will allow you to SR 2 times in a row to a target and the player never intends to do that, it just happens when used with another ability that you can’t avoid doing). I have tried and tried and tried to get this fixed, but it has fallen on deaf ears

Stealth PVP in this game has a big flaw
Personally the D/D CaD ability is what needs toned down greatly in PVP/WvW to help alleviate the mass stealthing within the game (and not allow it to be used on mobs within WvW, but only players to force those to be more tactical with its usage)

I think stealth in GW2 is by far better than a rogues ability in ‘that other game’ because I can use it in-combat over and over, when availabe. I can’t perma stealth by any means, but I can easily get out of trouble using it. The problem with CaD is it is spammable with Int. — and shouldn’t be. It should in fact have a CD of some sort or a DR attached to the ability to prevent people for over abusing it.

I don’t know, game is new. From day one I tried D/D and D/P and said “I don’t see a challenge, what else is there . . .” and tried several other setups. When I saw how fast D/D setups were killing players that pushed me further away from D/D simply because “some day that’s going to get nerfed, I’m not relying on that day!”

Still, stealth in this game is going to be honed in on by the developers. The real question is “when will it finally make them and us happy together”?

Lol, PVE folks always make me laugh. “You cant be in our party coz ur a thief!1”. Yeah, like any content in this game is hard enough to not be done by an entire group of the same class.

It serious amuses me, that some people still have this vision from past games (aka, game where you have the holybullkittenrinity). It’s just sad, really.

Now, about the thief: there’s no way it’s not viable. It doesn’t have “worse healing” nor “less support”/“tanking ability”. It all depends on how you build it. Just to give some examples:

Worse Healing:
- For yourself
Signet of Malice + Healing Food + Black Powder (x/P build). You’ll barely take any damage from non bosses mobs and even if you do, you’ll heal all the way through it (malice OP!1)

For group:
Venom Shared Heal ooooor you can always combo Black Powder + Cluster Bomb for AoE invi (+Regeneration traited). Plus, you have acess to Shadow Refuge, which is neat to revive your partners.

-Less support
Caltrops (aoe cripple)/ Smoke Screen / Shadow Refuge / Blinding Powder/ Black Powder (strongest skill against non boss mobs, imo) + the already mentioned venom sharer build, for your venoms.

-No tanking ability
Just build for toughness/blinding and heal. You can easily be the “tanker” of your party.

I could go on and try to come with more examples, but i’m not in the mood to it. Anyway, I think you’ve got the idea…

tl;dr
People being ignorant when it comes to chose classes for PVE, like it matters, lol.

When you said “Black Powder” I stopped reading and realized you have not done enough PVE in this game to realize that ability blows for bosses that MOVE constantly.

I am S/P and I use every ability there is in that build. When Thieves hit Fractals 40+ the game starts to die for them. We are horrible at those levels in Fractals. We do not have good survival like other classes.

An a friendly reminder: while I can spec heals in stealth, I can’t defend myself in stealth like other classes can out of stealth. Something is wrong with the class in PvE.

ArenaNet is terrified to fix us because of the massive complaints out class has received since the games launch. I have thought about quitting or making a Guardian since they are OP in every aspect.

Fractal Skins

Ill be honest here too. The skins are nothing like a legendary yet seems more rare to obtain one. The skins themselves are not that impressive like legendary’s either – they just have a nice trail behind them when they move.

Yet they are this rare ? I thought GW2 was about having fun, grinding endlessly is not fun to me.

I agree with others: let players use prestine tokens, just set the cost high.

I have been doing fotm for so long and all I want is a fractal focus. Have been after the dam focus for a month already now but no luck. I have so many duplicates of staffs, war horns and other skins but I cant get one kittening focus? And the best part is my frens keep getting duplicates of fractal focus.

Stop giving bs about it being rng. Cos if it is every skin should have an equal chance of dropping for everyone. Due to this for the past 2 months my gw2 game play time has been relegated to just fotm dailies. This double rng to get the fractal skin you want is not working. Please do something about it.

And FYI do something about the kittenty looking specter and staff.

After seeing this, I think I am done with Fractals.

I have completely infused my back item, upgraded all my rings, etc., etc. But what’s the point? Fractal 80 and continue seeing Trident skin drop over and over?

The reward system for Fractals past 38 is just pointless to me. Beating myself up over this place and the reward system doesn’t seem worth the time and effort.

What gives, ArenaNet? What is our incentive to continue progressing this horrible place? The difficulty seems way off for achieving nothing.

- Daggers are the same damage as Swords (dagger dps is way too high)
- Ranger pets that die should have cool downs or penalties for dying
- Pistol Whip Thieves need some attention-love from ArenaNet
- More HP added to WvW so fights are more entertaining
- AoE ground damage stacking needs toned down
- Siege weapons need short despawn cooldowns if not used soon
- GW2 needs to handle GPU Hardware better
- AntiAliasing features added
- More game Options for performance

- Shadow Return for S/P Thieves gets fixed

As Taril said: Black Powder. I can’t tell you how man times a D/D Thief has burn all their abilities when I use that. Another tactic is your Shawdow Return. Use it at every cost and you will more than likely see then run off after they burned up their abilities.

Devs: why did you nerf Pistol Whip yet not Heart Seeker SpammingDeath ? Bit confused how this has been overlooked.

Love the class, I think we’re pretty great as is, but D/D thieve builds need some serious DPS tone-downs.

Well, every Thief I have grouped with hasn’t a clue how to utilize their class — PVP and PVE.

When I see D/D thief in my group, I simply roll my eyes. D/D thieves think they’re WoW Rogues, and they’re not.

Are thieves anything like rogues?

We’re better than Rogues: Thieves can stealth out of situations far more than a Rogue who can run around perma invisible. I’ll take my stealth over a Rogues invisibility any day!
