Blobbing/Zerging = Zero Skill (is why people don’t like it)
Sadly, ArenaNet created this game around 100% blobbing and zerging.
I only see this happen when a Wall is down and the Keep NPC comes out, then someone on the inside defending repairs the wall. The NPC will continue to stay outside.
I target players with +25 stacks in Zergs, just to down them to remove the buff.
When you have the buff you tend to stand in the back of the group and play like a kitten (yes, I said K i t t e n). When you don’t have the stack you play more riskier, more like a Lion.
So, don’t use it, find another Sigil, and have fun.
This is not from F4 or Map popped. If that were the case the player would have stood there for around 2sec doing nothing before disappearing. He is clearly using using a hack.
I have Warriors and Guardians this this a lot (the ones using cheats) and then re-appear elsewhere behind me. No, they were not a Norn, either.
Here’s what our Armor would have looked liked, sadly it never made it to release. I’d love to have that much shine!
(these are not photoshopped, this is my actual character within the game from a while back. And no, no outside mods/AntiAliasing-injectors were used)
(edited by Crawford.4135)
There also seems to be a cheat where people reduce the cooldowns on their abilities, way shorter than the traits allow them too.
There has GOT to be a GM floating around in this game in WvW, or players are just going to stop playing this game. It was the downfall of AION, it’ll surely be the downfall of GW2.
The amount of hacking I have seen in the past two days is unbearable. Without GMs in the game and lack of understanding the games code by the developers themselves the cheating is going to continue for years to come — if this game even makes it to that point.
Report them? That has yet to prove this company does anything about the cheaters. Bots they worry about because that effects the Trade Broker thus dipping into possible Gem purchases to convert into Gold. Cheaters, on the other hand, cause no money loss to the games company and there for is not taken serious by its developers.
Aside from ArenaNet removing the Orbs due to causing imbalance in WvW, I haven’t seen much from them in dealing with the issue. It never once told me the company had full intentions to remove them ‘just’ because of the imbalance. It showed me, at least, that it was their way of putting a stop to hacking the item in the first place. Fine, partly job well done — but there has been zero effort to put a stop to players cheating left and right. Really now, cheating in WvW?
With four teams now dedicated to Temporary Living Story Rehashed Code every two weeks the company has failed to deliver on addressing its players resorting to cheating – speed hacks, damage exploits, teleportation, stealing professions that can’t even stealth, etc., etc., and tons of players witness this type of player behavior everyday. Where’s ArenaNet? Why have they not shown a smidge of concern about this within their game?
Quite frankly between the horrible looting system (Fractals Weapon Skins) and the amount of WvW cheating that goes on in this game — I honestly can’t see a difference between this game and AION anymore.
On top of all this I have had an NCsoft employee tell me “yes, someone at ArenaNet has made modifications to your character account.” is enough for me to stick it to ArenaNet. I had a very big feeling this was going on with my account due to an employee working there. If this is how they choose to handle their own product, then I see no reason this company is capable of handling the amount of cheating that runs wild within their game. And, I don’t trust you with my character after my discussions with your stakeholder.

This game is ONLY DX9, and will always be DX9.
ArenaNet ‘said’ they added DX10 to player skins, but that was a flat out lie. If there ever will be a GW3, it too will be DX9.
No, mine really has a delay of at least 1sec before it fires off (and I use Leatrix and my latency within the game is always low).
Couple other thieves I have spoken too notice the same thing.
Why does Headshot have a 1.5 second delay?
Please respond quickly as the moderator will infraction my post
“I like horses”
Pretty soon they’ll infract my attachment because it “shows too much detail”
because the class has been OP since BETA? lol
No.. Your face is funny. It’s like a little raisin.
Pff, now watch some Moderator will come in here, not knowing where that came from, and hand you an infraction for saying that to another player.
Uhm, they suck? (or as ArenaNet would say: they KITTEN?)
Hi everyone
How can a sword be viable in a Thief, in PvE and WvW?With a pistol.
What this guy said. You’ll eat Dagger Thieves with S/P
Create a ticket, which I sure you have, and give them more information. Since release ArenaNet’s concern is temporary ‘fluff’ content — so much that they have dedicated 4 teams to that project.
At this point we are better off contacting Havok for technical support for this game. — I’m not kidding, either.
You really need to avoid buying an i5 for a gaming system.
i5’s are business PCs as they are cheaper for companies to purchase in bulk vs i7’s.
More L2/L3 CACHE means better performance for gaming. Yes it really does make a difference, and has for over a decade.
ArenaNet cannot do anything about the lag. I’m not kidding. This engine is not fit for mass players. We all have to suck it up and deal with it.
ArenaNet is full of great ideas. Implementing them, on the other hand, is not this company’s strong area.
Besides 4 teams working on temp-content to them is FAR more important.
Intel i5 processors are not high-end CPUs. They are budget / business CPUs for general use. You should honestly go for an i7 as they will lend you more CACHE than i5 processors. CACHE is critical for a gaming system.
It saddens me that to this day you still see players/people say i5’s are better or not that much different than i7 processors. They are in fact much better over an i5 due to the CACHE. CACHE is an essential part for a gaming system and help in the performance area greatly.
You’re dropping some money into this system, so avoid an i5 processor if you can afford to do so. Businesses lean towards i5’s because it lowers the price in mass purchases to save money. If employees are doing day-to-day tasks, there is no need for an i7, whicher are in fact higher-end processors.
A 500W PSU is not a good idea if you are going to go with that GPU you linked. Between the processor and the GPU, 750W is perfectly fine and not overkill by any means. Plus this allows you to add hardware (i.e. HDs, etc.) in the future.
I am not trying to say Tota is dead wrong, I just disagree with him/her. It is in no way to be disrespectful.
Go with:
i7
8GB Memory (at least)
SSD if you can afford too, if not stick with 7200 RPM high-CACHE HDs
Good motherboard (one that allows for dual 16x PCI rails, not single)
GPU you picked is a good pick for the price, stay with it.
(don’t forget: hardware you already have can be ported over to your new system. i.e. HD, CDROM, etc.)
If you really want to get a great system for under $1,000 just ping me and I’ll help you pick-out the hardware. I have been building PCs since the 80’s and have a degree in electronics. I love the smell of electronic devices!
EDIT: The HD you linked is a bit high in price. I picked up a 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB CACHE drive for $92 at MicroCenter here in Denver. I would keep looking around for a better deal on that drive. Bit pricey for a 1TB drive if you ask me. Just an FYI

Honestly you should avoid WindowedMode as this does not take full advantage of your graphics cards GPU. I can’t stress this enough for players when they do this. I understand some do as they’re may have dual monitors to utilize the other screen when working on more than one app, but in general you should avoid this.
When you are in WindowedMode you lose the Gamma ability, and more, so just avoid it.
Those with their Commander tags on in WvW should have a different text color when talking in WvW.
I say Bright Green
Well, I have 3100 Toughness… and over 1000 healing.
I don’t see the problem, maybe don’t run full berserker armor?
You mean Armor
You are better off teleporting into a large Zerg with Malice on and using Dagger Storm.
Bows will not give you the damage that DS can.
But however — I love killing Bow Thieves.
Easy fix of skill lag:
- move to lower tier server
hey you bought a car that advertised it could go to 100 but instead barely goes to 50…solution? use your bike instead
great solution indeed.Why not also:
- Stop playing
- buy and play WOW
- Go visit the world instead of sitting at a computerIts not called Massive Multiplayer Online for no reason and Massive does not mean 40 people
Dear Fanboy:
You purchased a game that has issues. Your Pro-ArenaNet GW2 attitude/comments do nothing for gamers’ outcry for the company that developed it to stand behind what they sold us. Please step to the side of the line with your picket sign and allow those of us who wish for ArenaNet to fix known issues.
Sincerely,
Someone who wants ArenaNet to do something
I heard this game runs on Windows 3.1 servers
Seriously, though, this company needs to get something done about the WvW issues. We keep hearing something is being done, but it has turned into “The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf”.
Tell ArenaNet to do something about Cloak and Dagger / Black Powder + Heartseeker.
Until then, ArenaNet has zero clue as to what the problem is with the class. Those two abilities I listed above are the cause of Thief issues. Anyone denying that hasn’t played a profession to 80. Want proof of denial?
Cloak and Dagger / Black Powder + Heartseeker Stealthing should be removed?
The guy on the Left is Reality. The Donkey on the Right are Thieves who will disagree:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqs9DYisSsg
By the way, I am a Thief. I just know how to play one better without the use of a Dagger.
ArenaNet doesn’t consider fixing a bug until every person that has purchased the game has complained 5x each.
I’m a Thief myself, and what this Thief is doing is wrong.
This is what happens when you don’t build a team within your MMO company to deal with game bugs head on and fix exploitation. DUCK! More incoming temporary content on its way.
If you were somehow to convince ArenaNet that this was effecting your temporary content, it would be fixed to put a stop to Thieves doing this. Till then, I do wish you much luck.
but but…it does not matter, thieves are still OP even if you manage to kill them!
where is my fail/qq bandwagon when you need it most ?
guys?http://couplesweightlosscompetition.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/bandwagon.jpg
You posted that right: Bandwagon Thieves. What are they? Any Thief that runs with a Dagger. Bad enough ArenaNet lost its creativity, but dang the players went right down with it.
Since we’re on the topic of bugs related to thieves … please tell me someone else has noticed bugs with stealth and being revealed for absolutely no reason.
You don’t attack, you don’t cast anything, you’re simply unstealthed for some unknown reason and even given the revealed buff.
In a build I’ve used with the trait that makes steal stealth you (not running mug, either) I’ve stole onto a player, having done nothing prior to (no arrow in flight, no thrown anything, nothing!) and upon stealing from them and getting a skill from them, I am simply not stealthed and only have the revealed debuff.
This happens often enough that it feels like it is breaking that trait’s already debatable value. Furthermore, I’ve had situations where I’ve used Shadow Refuge + Shadow rejuvination off point during a team fight to heal up. Even with ample time to still be in stealth, I’ve had random aoe splash or something (I have no freaking idea what causes it) pull me out of stealth and give me a revealed debuff, even though I made no actions. And this too happens often enough that it makes me question the viability of even trying to run something other than 100% glass cannon builds, because they don’t rely nearly as much on stealth to perform well. -_-
Back to topic, I too have noticed the Infiltrator Strike bugs. Both in not being able to shadow return (which I can’t say I experience / experienced a lot, but I HAVE seen it) but also where weapon swaps / item pickups / any type of skill slot swap still allows you to use infiltrator strike, but without the shadow return.
Game breaking issues IMO, and here they’re preparing for their first “big” tournament at PAX. Sigh … all that PvE focus and lack of love for PvP makes me fear that PAX may be the first and last big tournament this game ever gets. -.-
Valid points, and your last paragraph sums up a lot. I don’t understand this company’s desire to go out public like this when the game has so many issues.
The reason Necro’s became mass Tanks is because Warriors continued to run away from fights (and stand in back of groups/zergs) in PVP situations so Anet decided the Tanking should go to the Necro’s profession instead.
It does not do more damage. You need to learn that you can still move until its animation has started. While it is PWing you are emume to all damage for that time. It is great it zergs — especially when enemies are next to each other as it hits multiple targets at once (until they nerf that).
PW is not an easy setup to learn, at all. That’s why most people don’t play it. It takes a ton of practice and a huge understanding of Teleporting in and out using Infiltrator’s Strike (when it’s not bugging out due to the lack of the develoeprs knowledge of the games code).
You also need to use Headshot in practical ways. Headshot and Black Powder will drop a Dagger Thief really hard.
S/P is very powerful. It’s not a setup that everyone picks up due to the way it works.
Actually it’s a bit funny they’re not building a 4-man team to fix the game bugs before working on Living Story.
Completely shows where this company’s priorities are.
Living Story > Ironing out the game.
yeah, re-hashed code with new colors and pixels with a little text change = Living Story. I guess you could call it Living Story when it’s the same code just re-hashed out every two weeks.
It’s like ArenaNet employees woke up one morning and said “You know what, I hate the people who play our game. Let’s make them hate us in the process.” Bam, Living Story and lack of bug fixing was born.
It’s quite funny when me, a S/P Thief, can have two Pistols (P/P) equipped and chase someone down and Infiltrator’s Strike to them while having P/P out. That’s one heck of a bug, and happens quite often in the game.
Tonight I picked up a Warriors Battle Standard and was able to Infiltrator’s Strike to an enemy player in WvW. I still had the Battle Standard in my hands and was smacking the enemy with the Battle Standard. Now that’s some lazy coding if you ask me. Even more I still had the “Shadow Return” buff on my bar. I dropped the flag and returned to my original location. I couldn’t help but laugh at the lack of care this company has in dealing with bugs in its game. (and I have no idea why it bugs out like this, it just happens randomly throughout each night — yes I reported it a VERY long time ago, but we all know how ArenaNet is with fixing game issues within their own product)
It’s bad enough they refuse to actually fix the bug with Infiltrator’s Strike bugging out and not allowing the Thief to Shadow Return, but seriously.
11 Months and ArenaNet just fixed the Water NameTag bug in the game. It took them almost a year to fix that known bug where you could see players names through walls and hills when coming up out of water. Ok — glad they fixed that.
Infiltrator’s Strike bug is looking like a 48 month away fix at this point. Actually I’m not going to give them that. Infiltrator’s Strike will never be fixed.
At least we’re able to Infiltrator’s Strike at times with P/P out, or a Warrior’s Battle Standard in our hands. Oh yes, but they had time to nerf this skill twice while ignoring the bugs it has?
- rollseyes@AnetCoders *
- yes, another infraction incoming because they hate my guts and would rather see me face down in a ditch outside Las Vegas near an onion field. No, I’m not kidding, ArenaNet would rather seem me face down, that’s not a joke *
(edited by Crawford.4135)
Temporary content will only make GW2 refreshing, exciting, and thrive. It can’t hurt the game at all.
If this had a sub, it would be a different story.
Ok, fine that’s how you feel. Could you at least BACKUP your claim? Throwing meat in a cage without an animal inside does no good for anyone.
Have a point? Good, provide why you have a point — instead of posting like an employee of ArenaNet.
The only thing this company has going for itself is the WvW and sPvP. The PVE content in this game is just horrible to the point of playing AION back in the days. Yeah, you want that item from the dungeon? Well go farm it another 5,000 runs while ArenaNet continues to dump temporary content on you while never seeing that item you wanted from Fractals – you know, the weapon skin you wanted so badly.
This company has a very hard time understanding what an MMO should be. And now they’re launching the tournaments? ArenaNet: how about balancing the games professions out before hyping your game at PAX? You have done nothing significant to show you actually care about this game.
Another interesting and affordable idea
Don’t like that hood, never have. Rest is adorable!
Continued:
But then I remind myself: I am the 1% build Thief in the game, and ArenaNet’s lack of care for those that play it continue to suffer it out as they care about what’s popular within their game: D/D and D/P, which is why they get all the love from the devs. Sure PW got some timing reduced from the Stun to Flurry, but that was null compared to how a Dagger Thief operates within this game.
S/P: what will they nerf on us next . . .
Healing
Again don’t forget that all of the trait points you drop into the traits boosts your healing abilities. There’s nothing like Malice + Dagger Storm into an entire Zerg and teleporting out and /laugh. (yeah, ArenaNet will eventually nerf Dagger Storm, too, so be prepared. Heck, they’ll just nerf S/P thieves again here soon and by then I will have found a new game more than likely – they hate us S/P Thieves)
Anyway, just have fun and find where you are weak and improve in those areas. I am no perfect thief, but I am no easy target for the other classes out there even WHEN I DO NOT USE STEALTH! Ha! (btw, stealth isn’t the problem Thieves, Daggers are. Ask D/D Elementals!)
Why no extra Dodge?
Why is right! Your survival is teleportation over and over when you want to control the fight. S/P is a control build as you control when you want. You go in and out of the fight and remain the controller. Dodge is very important, don’t get me wrong. But you need to move differently with a S/P setup. I’ll have a video soon explaining more.
But hey, I beat the ArenaNet developers by figuring out how S/P should work, because they couldn’t.
I have said too much, I don’t want us being nerfed more. ArenaNet hates my guts already and would rather seem me face down in a ditch outside Las Vegas near an onion field on the side of a lonely dark road . . . I’m not kidding either
(edited by Crawford.4135)
I have been running s/p since launch and have never looked back – and ArenaNet hasn’t either because they forgot about the 1% build those of us like.
At some point I will have a video released of my wvw footage, but the work on the video is taking months to do.
Sword/Pistol is amazing
S/P is one of the most amazing setups (when ArenaNet isn’t nerfing it!!!!!!) while most hate it. It is not any easy build to run with and takes a ton of practice to learn. Dagger/X thieves come up to me and they’re unable to effectively take me down, but a lot of my traiting skills help with that. As I have said on these forums many times: s/p is not a stealth build, per se, as it relies heavily on the teleportation and using your stealth heals as a last resort/tactic.
30 in toughness trait is a must for S/P. When you do use a stealth you benefit from extra healing while in stealth from the Restoration trait, and that my friend is extremely helpful (especially when you stand in Shadow Refuge for 12sec)
One of the best builds is one I came up with a long time ago and still use lays down a perfect survival and damage setup.
The problem with players is they want fast burst damage with zero survivability and get away by ‘sneaking’ off. That’s the game designers fault for allowing that to happen. If you want high-burst you should give up the ability to get away. If you want high survivability you should give up the damage output. Tanks should not go around out DPSing everyone else, and high DPS should not go around surviving everyone. Game designers fail to catch this, and the game lives on with the issue.
I build around both DPS and Survival and I continually laugh off the glass-cannon thieves and DPS warriors and am very effective at surviving until they give up or taking them down.
My build: (correction made)
0/25/30/0/15
This build gives you the Crit, the toughness with healing and the extra initiative for Pistol Whip usage (Pistol Whip costs 5 Int to use each time . . . yet HeartSeeker cost way less?)
I have 3.1K Attack, 36% crit, 70%’ish crit damage and 2.7K armor/toughness. I find my Traits are where I start from and gear is how I balance out my stats. What’s nice about this setup is I can step right into a 30+ Fractals without changing my traits/armor (sometimes I may change out to boost myself up to higher healing and toughness, but overall it is very powerful). I res enough Dagger thieves to know, trust me on this one
I am not interested in killing someone in 2 hits, nor am I interested in someone killing me in 2 hits – I balance my stats and traits out and I enjoy this setup.
I had two d/d thieves try to take me down the other night and it took them a very long time before they downed me and someone else showed up to even the odds. They were in and out of stealth a lot, but Black Powder placed them in a defensive mode rather quickly. I got unDowned and we killed them both.
When Thieves were running around in WvW as S/P setups when the game came out, I flippin’ hated fighting them. It was one of the most annoying builds to fight, but I was that same build. The only sad part is ArenaNet does NOT want S/P utilizing stealth – that much is apparent due to their lack of goodies for S/P players while Dagger/Pistol and Dagger/Dagger Thieves get (Black Powder HeartSeeker and Cloak and Dagger) more stealth.
ArenaNet doesn’t care about the S/P (1% build) players and never will. Their continued nerfs to our teleporting will continue to hit again and again, yet they refuse to give us anything like Dagger Thieves get. (or at least nerf the Dagger stealthing abilities?) I have toughed it out for far too long and until a new game grabs my attention — this will be my final ArenaNet game purchase once that day comes. I have honestly never seen a game developer ignore its players this bad
ArenaNet could have compromised with us on the Infiltrators Strike for the S/P lovers, but ignored every single post from an S/P Players. I would have been happy with 1800 Shadow Return range, but 1200 on a weapon setup that clearly says ’you’re not stealth worthy enough’? The devs must all be Dagger thieves
Continued Below (stupid forums)
(edited by Crawford.4135)
@Crawford.4135
Since you keep mentioning toughness and healing, perhaps there was an error stating your build is 0/25/0/30/15 ? You made it sounds like you have the 30 points in SA.
Yes, correct. I was typing all of that on an ipad and at work. 30 in SA (correcting above post).
Thanks for pointing that out
S/P is not a stealthy setup. I think you mean S/D
Your complaining about thieves yet providing very little detail tells me you may be trolling. Who knows of those 20 killed were below Lvl 80 and the 2 thieves were very well geared.
The stealth issue is Cloak and Dagger and Black Powder+Heart Seeker. S/P does not get these capabilities. This is where your complaint falls short.
Plus 2 Thieves will have 2 Shadow Refuge plus their own normal stealth abilities. That is the norm. But when you say S/P I know now your story is more out of anger due to the people that took them on and lost. Well, that and your details are very lacking.
Bad players get good players nerfed.
My Thief wearing four different sets are Armor types.
What are those leggings with the straps?
Very creative looks everyone
Norn T2 Racial
Force ANet to build the game a new DX11 engine, one capable of handling massive amounts of people on screen at once, so I can run large PvE world bosses and WvW at a decent framerate.
Basically, they’d just purchase
stealthe Camelot Unchained engine.
ArenaNet couldn’t add DX11 to the game if they had 10 Billion USD. We’ll never see good AntiAliasing, DX10/11. What you have today is what you’ll have tomorrow (years from now).
Developers/Designers want games out the door, regardless if they are far from perfect.
Welcome to Corporate America
Welcome to AION 2
Everything up to “Here’s the deal AreaNet:” was a helpful bug report. Everything that followed that line, just made you look like a bit of a grouch.
I recommend editing your post, and just limiting it to the information needed to fix this probably unintended issue.
I will not disagree with you on this. I have been nice in my in-game tickets and I am just sick of the laziness behind an issue that the have ignored for 10 months. Being nice did nothing prior, probably still won’t.
But keeping my cool this long while they continue to nerf it? My anger with them is no longer bottled. I tried.
“Where is our active defense?” Are you flippin’ serious?
Some people shouldn’t be playing this game . . .
