You’re asking why there is no /spit in Guild Wars 2?
1. ArenaNet is in Seattle (it’s a new-age Hippie zone)
Well they’ve pretty much slaved off a ton of their team to releasing content every two weeks and have heavily neglected fixing performance issues.
What I find the most shocking is their patch notes “Polish”. The Polish they mention is far from anything you typically see as a “polish” in games currently in the industry. They’re form of polish vs. what polish should be is far from polish.
Most gaming developers list game polishes as fixing/resolving/cleaning.
I’m here until EverQuest Next comes out. I enjoy what time I do play in the game, but it’s honestly frustrating on top of the forum moderator stalking that has continually sought out my posts because they know who I am in real life and don’t like me. Yet their management does nothing about putting a stop to it.
GW2 will never be as successful as WoW, and that’s something ArenaNet has said they want GW2 to become. I fell on the floor when I read that.
I dare to say more than 50% of the GW2 playerbase came from GW1. Or at least 40%. Sometimes i even see random dungeon teams with 5/5 GW1 titles. They make up most of the real core and loyal base.
Still, they don’t continue anything we loved in GW1, however we were promised to have “all we loved in GW1” – manifesto, anyone?
Yet it feels odd. If the community is asking for a GW1 feature, they do the opposite. Do Arenanet devs feel like GW1 isn’t their product, because most of the devs are new to the company?
For example, build teamplates. or GvG. PvP as a whole, is the opposite of GW1’s PvP – lack of variety, no rewards no resources.( Or Cantha! >_> )
Or the birthday gifts… EVERYONE was expecting a nice minipet pack. Instead, we got a Jennah, some booster (which was bugged and totally destroyed the non-existing Pvp economy) and an useless scroll. However… surely a coincidence but the gemstore happened to have a new minipet pack at the 1st anniversary. Feels like they were aiming for Gw1 people to buy their own gifts for money.
Don’t forget the landscape – can you tell me any kind of place that was presented in GW1 and is not in ruins? Most players loved Ascalon – now we have to kill their ghosts, if they are already dead, or blow up the remnants of their kingdom. Just.. no.
Any thoughts?
Using the word “loyal” should be avoided. No players are loyal to any game developer. There are Fanboy (fan based) players and they typically ruin games by their demanding attitudes and game developers cater right in to that, too.
GW1 graphics are old, it’s content is old and to some they simply don’t enjoy that. Others do. Just a choice. I played GW1 for a little while but as time moved on got sick of it. I will leave a game in a heartbeat for something else that gives me enjoyment and time well spent.
inb4 the army swarming in and telling you to play for fun and not for loot.
Totally get that, but I, like many other players out there, enjoy going for skins within games. It is what’s fun to me, but not grinding endlessly to never obtain something. I don’t mind work for something I want. I do, however, do mind when I have run Fractals this many times to gain nothing in the end.
By the time someone gets something from something, it’s over before it started. Your time means nothing for something not obtained within a meaningful time.
I like skins, a lot, or I wouldn’t try to make my character different than other players, or go for a unique item. Maybe I am just in the wrong game for that.
I’ve stumbled upon at least 10 different versions of the same issue on the forums. Berserker gear being the best gear for PvE and no other stats being viable at all. I’ve also stumbled onto some posts that basically said, “If you’re not a full berserker, you’re hurting your team and ruining the game for others”. What kind of thinking is that in an mmorpg?
An mmorpg is just that…. an rpg. When you pretty much have no choice in what gear you use, isn’t that taking away your freedom and the “rpg” part of an mmorpg? I play a tanky, support guardian, and I’ve had people kick me from parties, tell me to go full berserker or quit, and insult me not only in-game but on the forums as well. That thinking is so wrong that I could almost cry about it. Maybe berserker isn’t my playstyle and I want to support others with buffs. Shouldn’t I have that option?
I have also heard players say that I should “adapt” to whatever the current situation demands. That is also the worst argument I’ve ever heard. If your current build is lacking, you should adapt to a better version of that build, not adapt to using a completely different build that you hate using.
I’m taking a stand here and now and saying I will not go berserker no matter what. I may continue to get kicked out of parties, but I will report each and every one of the people that vote to kick me, because this thinking is utterly wrong and is harmful for an mmo. I encourage every single player that does not use berserker gear to do the same. Report any players that kick you from parties because of your build, insult you, or demand that you use berserker gear.
I feel you, and I will say this: those are simply bad players. I step into 48 Fractals and ask the Warrior/Guardian how much armor they have. Then, out of repeated frustration levels, leave because I, a Thief, have more Armor than they do.
I’m approaching 400, and maybe I am past that, I lost count!, (some have even more) runs in the dungeon and have even carried many people in 48’s, 38’s and 28’s. RNG or not, it is an insult to players like myself when players receive skins that are new or very inexperienced in a dungeon that takes time and a good understanding of your player and the dungeon itself (notice I didn’t use the word Skill).
Run after run after run and I have done this dungeon for a very long time. What a waste of time, what a slap in the face, what an insult to those that are good at a dungeon that never get rewarded for putting in the time.
I (and others) cannot even turn in items to swap out to the weapon skin they want. Instead when we bring this subject up in the forums out of pure concern the ArenaNet staff blasts us and locks the posts, or in my case gives me an infraction, for a legit complaint. What does that solve? A shutdown of something they do not want new players seeing all over their forums: upset hard grinding players getting slapped in the chops. (oh, and you don’t want us grinding, due to the farm zones you nerfed a while back, so what’s the difference in Fractals? It’s just a different area with the same intent)
You could at least make small changes to Fractals for those like myself who have to look at the same junk everyday a little more interesting. I don’t see why you can’t take some time aside to make some changes to the looks/bosses to keep players a bit more interested for something they are starting to despise with a passion.
I’m sorry ArenaNet: but your Dungeon is nothing, nothing different than running a dungeon in AION. Countless items I have no use for while those who hardly run the place get what they came for, and leave to never return. You could have at least provided some gel for this mess. So yes, lock/ban/screwme/infraction me for making this post. At least you read it. Whether you choose to actual do something for your players, well, that’s probably like mindless Fractal runs. You said you listen to your players, but Fractals is one area I don’t think you thoroughly have listened.
I thought you wanted GW2 to be something different. Well you have for questing, it is a unique way to level in a game, and other aspects you’ve made quite different. Boss fights are not like many games. But when I step into your Fractal it’s honestly like stepping into AION dungeons – and you don’t need a ton of replies belong to tell you how much players hated that insane mess. If you don’t want players saying “Hey, got my weapon, I’m done with Fractals!” Then put some new skins in every few months to keep the place/players active. This isn’t rocket science, which isn’t even that technical to be honest. Change up the look a tad, make the bosses a little different in reaction. Seriously, get the kitten RNG out of your game so players can actually have fun and not AIONGRIND their brain cells out.
Nothing. Welcome to the AION loot system
I must say I am very disappointed in the new hairstyles for the Female Norn.
(from top to bottom, but I think you get which ones I’m talking about anyway)
The first one looks like Marsha Brady (yo peace man!!!!!)
The second one looks like some bad hairstyle from the 80’s
The third one is ok, but the hair should have tangled down off the back (this one looks like it is missing a large portion from the back)
These styles definitely show a male came up with them. If it was in fact a woman, I don’t know what kind of woman would have come up with these – and I don’t want to offend a lady.
I know ArenaNet will not take this into consideration and change them, of course, but my request is that in the future they be a bit more creative.
Once again the Humans got the best hairstyle (and RACIAL!). Really sucks :/
shrug I like my attempts at fixing it.
1st image is actually pretty good
I don’t like the coloring on the second one
Heavy Armor Females! Beware, your gear was designed by Lady Gaga:

That helm just disturbs me something fierce

Can I please have a new pair of undies ?

Cody Crichton;
Since the last update I have noticed a lot of ambiance sound cuts out in WvW. When this happens the player will continue to have the same problems when leaving WvW. In some areas you will hear some of the ambiance, just not as much as you normally would hear. Today I noticed that while out in WvW I had hardly any ambiance sound. I could hear footsteps and such. However I logged out and onto my other character. At one point she was walking with ambiance but zero weapon sounds at all. (none of this appeared to be around until the last patch we had)
I tried restarting the game, seems to still happen. Also tried rebooting. Seems to help in some situations. As Alissah mentioned — the lag is still there (just not as bad before the optimization update).
And what he said about the Alive/Dramatic – no joke there. It really does make the game come alive with the audio so please keep pushing the fixes!
This really made me laugh!
https://soundcloud.com/arenanet/guild-wars-2-voiceover
Good stuff! (I would love a job in the audio world, even went to school for recording music!)
Folks we are getting a tad off subject here.
Some of the comments where those disagree I can understand, but may I ask: are your opinions based off of sPVP? Because they sound as if 1v1 in most cases. I do not play sPVP (because it is a structure environment of CTF or whatever, not a fan of those).
Shadow Return comment in my perspective is a Multiple Player situation generalization, not structured or 1v1. I walk away from 99% of my fights, but I would like to see S/P be a slight more effective (not in power or damage) in WvW zerg scenario’s.
command line arguments?
One I am curious about, if it works or not, is “-cuda”.
-autologin works and a few others I use work great as well. The one mentioned above has zero notes attached confirming it is active within the games.
thanks
Edited few things above and also wanted to add: I know this thread will greatly be ignored by many players and possibly the development team itself. It’s a fact: this setup is the least played among the thieves.
Here’s to trying, though.
ArenaNet,
Let’s discuss your change to Infiltrator’s Strike Shadow Return change you recently placed into the game. Before Shadow Return was Infinity to return to location (granted it had a timer). In your change you made Shadow Return a 1200 range.
We all know and understand why this change was put in place. Heck, I bounced back and forth on 50 players over and over and they could never kill me. Ok, sure I am most positive I and a few other S/P thieves were the reason for the change to 1200 range.
But let’s be realistic for a moment and look at a few aspects.
- S/P Thieves do not rely on mass stealthing all over the place, you built us this way.
- Infiltrator’s Strike has been the most survival ability for us (without the mass use of Stealth)
- The only power behind Infiltrator’s Strike, mainly, is to catch someone, and that is only 600 range to get to that person (granted with Steal it can be quite a bit more)
- Infiltrator’s Strike is the key survival to a S/P thief, it is what keeps us alive unless we’re out smarted.
So, there is a simple, general aspect of how a S/P. Ok, 1200 range, correct?
- Warrior Greatsword skills can avoid an entire zerg (seriously, it’s like the Energizer Bunny. they just keep going, and going, and going, and going . . .)
- Elementals can troll travel just like Warriors, and let’s not forget about trolling outside Keeps, only to run back in and self rez (rinse and repeat anyone?)
- Ranger Greatsword (need I say more?)
What I have listed above in all honesty is no different than the previous Infiltrator’s Strike. It allows the player to attack (out of stealth, just like most S/P thieves will play — remember, you designed us this way) when they want, and leave when they want. Warriors, Elementals and Rangers are extremely effective in this area — (S/P was).
Again: S/P thieves do not, again, do not rely on Stealth. We’re the most loved Thieves in WvW because we’re out in front of everyone without disappearing every 10sec(per se) but we put up a great fight. (Everyone loves a Thief that isn’t in pure stealth night and day, right?)
I do not wish to ask you to give Shadow Return Infinite. I am asking that you reconsider giving it a max of 2400, or 1800 at the least. 1200 told us S/P thieves you have no desire to continue to help/support this build, and left us in the dark.
Currently you have given great utility to Dagger setup Thieves, but you really have not looked at the S/P players. I know, I know — there are only a few in the game and it may be a waste of time for the developers to pass a little lover our way. We’re not able to Heartseeker out of Blackpowder, for one example, as we simply do not use Daggers. We’re Sword thieves with Pistols — We’re the Van Helsing of Thieves? (that might be a little much there, but you get the point).
My point is that your change was really harsh to the Thieves that don’t utilize stealth like Dagger thieves. So we’re out of stealth just as much as a Warrior, Elemental and Ranger. So here is one small thought to a change that S/P thieves are asking (well, at least I am, there’s just not many of us)
- If a Thieve chooses S/P setup, they get the following
- 2400 Shadow Return Range — only for S/P Thieves
- Dagger/X or X/Dagger Thieves will keep their current Combo abilities.
I think this is a fair, balance and meaningful way to give back to the few players you have that still enjoy S/P builds. After all, we don’t get what Dagger setup Thieves get (by any means) and I certainly hope you consider this for those that love Swords. And, Pistols.
Remember, to date S/P thieves have received the largest nerf to date, (Pistol Whip nerf a long time ago) so can you please consider this? I never complained once about the PW nerf, I felt it was justifiable (I honestly did, and still do). But something for the few of us would be nice.
Sincerely,
Sword / Pistol
(edited by Crawford.4135)
Not a bad video, it’s nice seeing a S/P thief out there. I guess you and I are the only ones who play S/P.
My advice
- Drop the Bow if you can and use P/P for players running away from you. If you have the Damage, it’ll finish them off every time.
One thing I did notice was your dodge rolling was killing your Stealth (it would not stealth/heal you because you dodge rolled too quickly before letting it finish)
In all, I enjoyed the footage. It’s sad that S/P is a lost art and ArenaNet forgot about the “1% Spec” (Pistol Whip) Thieves. They have no interest to fix/love the our setup.
PW needs a shorter start time, badly. ArenaNet should knock off .5sec of the start of Pistol Whip, badly. They did reduce the time from after the start to the animation time, but it still needs help. I just don’t think S/P will ever get the love and attention it truly deserves.
Keep shining S/P!
(here’s the video I made of my S/P Thief., but I ended up not finishing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d83FpkfAOB0)
PS: BTW, to all the whiners about “Stealth is OP!”. Once again this Thief (as I have stated before about this) is killing players without the use of constant stealthing. Thieves just have tons of utility as a Melee class and people are not used to that.
- Daggers are Training wheels for Thieves! STAND PROUD S/P THIEVES!
(edited by Crawford.4135)
So far the sound seems better in wvw. I did notice it lad once but then came back. Please continue to work on it. But in all it IS nice to see something get love in the game. I hate bugs and performance issues.
Thanks Anet
If you had 30 fans inside your PC case it wouldn’t matter. Please list your CPU/GPU temperatures.
Just because you have 7 case fans doesn’t mean your system is cool. Your ambient temperature plays a factor.
If your CPU temp is within good range, slightly increase the voltage. Check Memory timings, too.
Graphics drivers hardly make a difference in GW2’s performance for me, but I can confirm GW2 ran well with 13.8 Beta 2, and OpenGL 4.3 Beta Drivers (and some other random drivers prior to that).
OpenGL? I really hope you’er not trying to explain GW2 is OpenGL to him.
I’m a Thief, and I agree with this
Sorry ArenaNet: I have to laugh at the fact you still have not addressed this, or even increased your sound channels in the game. Most gaming developers do a great job at implementing sound into their games, I just don’t see how you fail miserably at this.
AND ITS BEEN OVER A YEAR
This should have been fixed before the game even went live. I don’t understand why GW2 sound channels are still set to 4 (or 2).
Even inside dungeons the game sounds cut out. It seems like the sound in this game is being rendered on the server itself instead of the client — it sounds that bad. I remember seeing a video of a sound dev that works for ArenaNet pride their-selves in creating the sounds for this game. I wonder if they know the hard work they put in meant nothing.
Small groups in WvW
- No footsteps
- No Ambiance
- 90% of spells sounds are gone
- No enemy sounds
Ridiculous
He who makes no mistakes, makes nothing.
I’m sorry but that is a horrible fan-boy remark, and a poor one at that.
As for what you said prior I cannot really agree with you. There are some very seroius issues with this game and they in fact have been ignored by the developers since Open BETA. Most gaming developers would have addressed those issues long ago and polished the game in several ways — none of those have happened to GW2. There is claim of polish in patch notes but I have not seen any of that with my own eyes.
ArenaNet is being fueled and powered by NCsoft, and trust me we all know how NCsoft operates: build it, sell it and walk away from it. NCsoft is by no means a company that stands behind their games. AION is a huge proof of that and today that game still lacks what it should have been.
Game companies are under pressure and deadlines. When that becomes the company’s focal point the game polishing, bug fixes and performance fixes become the last, if ever, factor of the game. GW2 is no exception and has in fact shown the exact same model NCsoft lives by.
Sadly the teams formed up to release content every two weeks has made other areas of the game suffer tremendously. I play a Thief that has a skill bug that they still have yet to figure out and patch — and that’s just one area. I have lost a lot of interest in the game over the past 3 months due to this decision making within the company.
I have often said while playing this game: How, how can this game be so beautiful, have so much eye appeal and lack the true love behind the true development of the game? It seems the bricks fell into place, but no one ever used cement to seal them together.
GW2 Lacks Development in these areas:
- Game Performance
- Implementing Anti-Cheat System <— THIS should be Priority 1!
- Bug Fixes
- More Creative Items to Buy in Gem Store (boy this will get their attention)
- Class Balancing
- Listening to the GW2 Community
If the above doesn’t change rapidly and with great attention by the company, then this game will remain under 4 Million copies sold. In today’s market, that’s not necessarily a surviving product for future gamer endeavors.
I am one of the few remaining S/P Thieves in this game. In fact I have played this spec since the game came out, I simply fell in love with it. The problem is the players that choose to put on a Dagger get the love from the developers. They have far more special abilities to run off with than a S/P Thief does. (yet for some reason they nerfed one of the MAIN survival abilities for a S/P Thief ‘and’ did not fix the bug along with it)
Because S/P Thief is THE least played setup in the game, the developers pay zero attention to it.
What’s popular gets love, what isn’t gets thrown away.

Watched an interesting video called “Why MMO Combat Sucks!”. It’s not always the developers fault, per se, but here’s a great commentary of the MMO combat system with latency factored in. Most of us already know how this works and there are ways to help relieve the latency issues such as Leatrix, Tunneling, ect., ect.
Anyway I thought some of you might want to watch it, enjoy.
It’s called THIS:
Thief Dagger Storm
I do it all the time to zergs to slow them down, works great. Just enjooy Dagger Storm before it’s gone is all I can say.
They’re working on it.
If I had a nickel . . .
You would have 5 cents!
For this thread it’s another 5cents tacked onto another 300,000,000+ million nickels.
They’re working on it.
If I had a nickel . . .
I would like to know how ArenaNet is handling itself with the exploiting/cheating concerns within WvW (I’m sure this effects sPVP as well).
Silence on this subject from the creators/developers does nothing for the players who would like to continue playing the game.
Any type of response on this touchy subject would be nice.
And it is due to the developers of this game refusing to address the issue. Long conversation with some players tonight who have had it up to their chin with the lack of “DEVELOPMENT” behind this game. Releasing content every two weeks that players can’t go back and do if they haven’t been around doesn’t seem like good priorities if you ask me. (and yes WE ALL see players using Auto-MinionDodge Bot being used left and right in this game — No GMs to do anything about it, you can get by with murder in this game!)
ArenaNet, I did some homework for you:
https://www.google.com/search?q=game+development+schools+online&oq=game+development+school&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l3.9296j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Probably a good idea to get some folks in to start dealing with the cheating in your game, or we can just let the stockholders know how its being dealt with. Oh wait, you don’t have those.
You know at this point your’e pretty much telling your players: anything goes in the game — just not your forums where you actually have control of the problems.
At least I didn’t spend 5+ years on a product to later show I didn’t care about the hard work toss into it.
Zero respect for every person that works there when they ‘refuse’ to deal with cheaters in their game. (along with the guy that has harassed me directly on the forums … who ever WORKS at the same company)
Oh don’t worry, I know this is an infraction (you control the forums but not your game) but now you’ve read it — and that was my whole point. (Oh, it has also been over a year now that you have not fixed Infiltrator’s Strike. GG)
(edited by Crawford.4135)
10 abilities and people need macro’s ?
We’re heading in a bad direction . . .
Daggers ignore toughness. It’s not supposed too, but it does. Daggers are simply bugged, but trying to get someone from this company fix something in the game . . . . you’re better off trying to shake hands with a cat.
it’s private video
Fixed
Hi fellow Thieves,
I have decided to stop all work on my PVP video I had originally promised. I have lost a great deal of interest in this game due to the neglect of my tickets within the game/email, the abusiveness by a certain moderator within these forums and the future of this game.
I wanted to give you guys, the players, a great video and my intentions were in those means. To come onto these forums each day and receive abusiveness by a certain moderator that has personal issues towards me I don’t feel I am welcome here any further by this individual. I’m simply done with the personal attacks by him.
I give you, my unfinished work and my apologies for those where were waiting on this video of a S/P thief in action. I have played S/P since the games release and in all have enjoyed it, but ArenaNet has refused to address the bug Infiltrator’s Strike has on S/P builds (simply because about 1% of the Thief players play the build).
Note:
The fight scenes within my video are “fillers only”, they are not intended footage that was going to be placed in the final render of the video. I have wonderful fight scenes taking on Warriors, Guardians and more, but I do not see a reason to finish this project. This is a rough render and many tweaks were made after I uploaded this a while back, I never got the chance to re-upload the new tweaks to the render tests.
ArenaNet: I wanted to incorporate your game footage throughout this video, I wanted to somehow honor your employees for all of their hard work. With the lack of bugs being address on my build/profession and the attacks by the moderator here, I wasted a lot of hours on this video for nothing.
I’m sure this video isn’t everyone’s style (I hate ordinary PVP videos), but thanks for the good times.

Peace out Thieves!

Human
Why? They have the best racial in the game and is on a 12sec CD.
I’m curious as well! Is there a possibility that you’re experiencing heavy latency? The skill itself has about a quarter second cast time (and cancels other skills that are already casting).
Unfortunatly I am unable to display the games latency within the game, there is no command or option.
When I use Headshot, it is at least 1second before the enemy player is dazed.
- Weapon is pulled out (this is where I notice the delay on the ability)
- Weapon is fired (yes there is bullet travel time, that does add some delay)
My connection is wonderful on the servers. Yes maybe it is the skill/wvw lag, but I only experience lag within WvW when 50+ players are fighting another 50+ players when taking/defending the keep in EB.
The rest of my skills operate fine, but Headshot (which I have always notice) has a (at least) one second delay, it’s no where near instant like it really should be.
Yes, you are correct about it interrupting my own abilities to fire off, that is the only time I notice Headshot react instantly within the game. Outside of that it doesn’t.
You need to be a bit more specific with the Sword.
Sword/Pistol
Sword/Dagger
S/P is very powerful once you understand the GroundLock feature (glues the player ot the ground until animation stops) and teleporting. S/P is can be very difficult for some, that’s why many Thieves do not play it.
I have played S/P since release, but ArenaNet continues to nerf viable aspects of S/P to tame the Dagger thieves while never thinking “Oh yea, we forgot 1% of the players play S/P. Oh well they’re get over it”.
In all honesty, just do what all the other thieves do: use a Dagger — because ArenaNet isn’t done screwing S/P players. I joke not when I say: they do not care about S/P setup because it is the “1% Build” in the game. There for no time will be invested into the setup, or even given a second thought.
Sword/Pistol. How we love you so, but your creators didn’t love you back…..enough.
Sword/Pistol. You are a dead build, brushed off like dust on a shelf, never to be found again
(edited by Crawford.4135)
tbh its p/p doesnt need a buff
Actually IMHO, it needs Init cost reduction.
Oh yeah? So does Pistol Whip!
You guys need AntiAliasing turned on, your screenshots hurt my-eyezzz!
http://ipkonfig.com/guild-wars-2-bringing-antialiasing-to-the-game
to OP: never seen gear actually remove a goatee from the character (I could see if it was covering your entire face, but that helm isn’t). That’s odd.
players using CTRL key for Push to Talk? Guy I gamed with a long time ago did that, and I couldn’t help but laugh at him for a moment. He struggled with keybinding all of his abilities and I explained to him "don’t use CTRL as Push to Talk, use it to CTRL+1 to make “1” do another ability. Every key you bind can become 2 abilities with CTRL keybinding an the same key."
I still tease him about that, and others in my guild who use CTRL for Vent/TS.
this post was to make fun of Hackers/Cheaters, not legit players. You guys are taking this thread a bit too serious.
(edited by Crawford.4135)
It will be sad, but I am sure ArenaNet will fix this before fixing my “Infiltrator’s Strike” skill. Yes it will be fixed before an actual skill bug.
Your post should be posted in the “Forum and Website Bugs”, not “Game Bugs” thread.
People on my server never rez, so I always release and run back. I do, however, 100% agree with you. This, sadly, would cause about 9 months of programming work for the GW2 developers to implement into the game.
A Warrior wielding greatsword and sword and using the mobile strike trait and the Bull Rush skill is arguably more faster/has better mobility than any Thief build
Um… what? Surely you can’t be serious. I’ll race you on my Thief against your maximum mobility Warrior. I’m willing to wager 200 gold that there’s no way in hell Warrior has better mobility than Thief.
No thief have ever catched my warrior GS/Sword+Shield, Bull Rush, runner build. Some even throw dagger to cripple me but ending up reflected thanks to shield back to them and watch them cry.
But roaming thieves are dull to fight so I hardly even try to because they can disangage as soon as they see their kitten being handed back to them or waste enough time vs them for their friends to arrive. Usually solo thieves in WvWvW probably making youtube video of their l33tness and all so I casually stand AFK for them to finish me so they get nice footage and handful of views for their youtube channel.
Then you have the worst Thieves on your server. I stop Greatsword Warriors often. Your server thieves must ‘all’ use Daggers, which is the normal easy setup to learn and has a lot of spammable “oh cool!” abilities on it.
Sadly these typical thieves you speak of do not know about an ability that stops you guys from running away. Most thieves will reply with the wrong skill below (I guarantee it) but I don’t re-return to threads often enough unless it is something I actually care to check often. This thread is not one of them.
Real men roam warrior!
You’re joking, right?
Tell me, sir: what’s the difference between a Warrior and an Elemental?
None: they both run away from fights.
and is probably why I see so many bad players around me and I see this often:
- “Can’t Use My Joypad in GW2”
- Do no Key-bind their abilities on the keyboard
Every time I see someone spam link their skill in /m or /t my eyes start having spasms and roll to the back of my skull and twitch – I know instantly they were in a heated moment and were holding down the SHIFT key while trying to mouse click on their ability.
People, please key-bind and stop using joysticks/pads in MMORPG games.
BECAUSE THEN YOU WILL NOT NEED THE USE OF HACK/CHEAT PROGRAMS TO PLAY YOUR kitten GAME!
Power to the Gamer!
“We the gamer, in order to form a more perfect game . . .”
This post just remembers me of this video someone posted on the Ranger forums a fellow days ago.
Pff, you’re expecting the designers of this game to actually understand that concept? Sure it’s simple math, and would require work to implement that thought process into their game, but these people have logic backwards.
Temp content > Performance/Bug/Hacker fixing.
Besides; Thieves with Daggers is easy skill mode and takes zero understanding. That’s why I don’t even touch Daggers on my thief — I want a real challenge.
1st:
Daggers ignore all armor (test you’ll see — not many players realize this, not even the developers realize)
2nd:
Toughness is simply stupid. ArenaNet should have placed flat out “Armor” in the game, not “Toughness = X Amount of Armor”. That’s just sugar coating crap with crap. Call it what it is: Armor, period.
3rd:
Armor, like Gennyt said: Toughness is a joke. Yes HP is nice, with some Toughness in the background. I can’t say which is best because honestly neither work well together — you give up too much of one or the other.
4th:
Dagger speed in this game is extremely fast (hopefully the speed will get nerfed). So no matter your Toughness, Armor or HP, in the end it only keeps you alive for a ‘tad’ longer. You only delay the inevitable.
5th:
Read number 2 again
yes, please make it so people can spam mindless aoe some more.
Am I supposed to just stand there not using skills because retal will kill me?
No, you’re supposed to use Tactics until the “Fist” icon (the one that gives the Retaliation buff to the player) to wear off. If you are unable to defend against it, then you need to move around more tactfully and avoid them until it wears off.
As a Thief I keep Malice up when I run with my Guild, so any Retaliation to me is fixed by heals per hit I do. When I don’t use this and am out soloing I still do not find it to do that much damage to me, but I try to work around it, too.
