I play on an iMac with much worse specs than yours via bootcamp Windows and have never had that problem. Maybe you should contact support and see what they suggest.

For the past 2 years GW2, while playing, will do a ‘freeze/pause’ like it’s loading something. It’s random but ever 2-5 min. It’s the most annoying thing I have ever seen in a game.

I have, since then, changed out to a whole new system, too. So it’s not hardware.
I have, since then, changed out my ISP speed, modem and routher (3 different times in the past two years) So it’s not my ISP or ISP hardware

My System:
i7 5930 CPU (6-Core) (I have tried running game on 4 cores, too)
16 GB RAM @ 3000Mhz
EVGA GTX 980 Ti SLI (x2)
3-SSDs in RAID 0
1300 PSU

Re-installed the OS several times, obviously if I changed out all of the hardware to a new system.

Freeze/Pause happens for about 1.5 solid. Again randomly. I even tried running the game in Windows 7 and Windows 10. I even tried running it in compatibility mode in Windows 8.

Honestly you all can blame my system till our teeth bleed. When I have gone through a huge change of hardware the way I have and watched this game constantly, and randomly, go through it’s pausing issues – it’s not my hardware/ISP. It’s an issue in the game.

Anet has yet to figure out what is causing it and I’m just shocked, when in reality I really shouldn’t be because they’re famous for ignoring these types of issues because of pride, they continually ignore these odd issues within their products.

Honestly what I believe the problem is: GW2 doesn’t run well on 6Core Intel CPUs. Game works best on Duo’s still to this day. But GW2 does not state it works on 6Core CPUs. It’ll run fine but the issues I’m encountering are possibly do to the way the game see’s and handles 6Cores.

Let’s not forget it took them THREE years to fix the Scroll+RMB bug in the game before they finally figured out how to fix that issue.

I was having issues a month or so ago, and installed the 64-bit client. No more crashes, very minimal screen lag/freeze issues.. until today.

Got the Windows 10 service pack update. No issues with any other program on my system, which is brand new, just built in October, a mirror to the one my husband is using, except for our towers (he’s got a RAIDMAX Narwhal ATX-920WB, and I’ve got a RAIDMAX Vampire ATX-001WBTi with some added fans and lights- I’m girly all the way, what can I say!) so, anyway, get the service pack update today and the poo is flung directly at my screen this evening. Every 3-5 minutes my screen would freeze up so badly, I fell from the skies trying to do the North starting events in DS. I quickly exited to my desktop and launched using the 32-bit client. It was much better though still had that hanging on by spit and luck feel to it.

My husband has not applied the Windows update to his system yet. He has had some screen lag issues but nothing NEAR what I had tonight, so we’ll keep you all updated as we try to pinpoint what is going on.

Thank you for some feedback. Sounds like GW2 64bit + Windows 10 is fail for some folks then.

Gotta love these ArenaNet devs….. So far the most amazing devs left their companies and went to Robert’s company (Start Citizen). Just means those game we love (loved?) will continue to suffer when the talent leaves and goes elsewhere

No worries. I uninstalled the game and have zero plans to upgrade to the expansion or drop a coin into their pockets. Can’t support something they refuse to fix.

As for anything I’ve done I have done full reinstall of the OS and game itself. Two complete different systems operated the same, too. It’s a problem on their end.

Took’em 3 years to fix a Mouse bug in the game. I have no hope of them resolving this issue any time soon. The devs are former Blizzard entertainment employees that didn’t make the cut. I can’t ask for a miracle and expect them to understand the issue and resolve it.

I put in a request about a bug that wouldn’t let me finish the fine dining, over a year ago. I just tried to complete it again and it is still bugged. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this problem? The Last 2 items will not show up (Plate of Asparagus Dinner & Recipe: Feast of Truffle Steak) even though I have created and opened them multiple time. So I can’t complete the collection. Thanks for any help you can give me.

In BETA I put in a bug about Mouse Scrolling while holding Right Click. IT was JUST fixed this year. 3 Years later

Trust me, that bug has 2 more years to go before they fix it

Well GW2 doesn’t depend on GPU by any means, in fact the game is still VERY heavily CPU bound (they said they changed that but lied to the players, it’s still CPU).

GW2 is also not optimized well, either. Lot of the CPU performance boost you sometimes see in the game is do to L2/L3 CACHE, FSB and other CPU enhancements that help the game. What’s surprising is your’e going from Pentium to i7 and getting the same performance – but knowing how GW2 was built it’s not shocking either.

I would try re-installing the game and see where than leads. Make sure drivers are fully updated throughout the new laptop, too.

Yeah…. I think I’m done with this. ArenaNet needs to hire more competent developers. It was bad enough it took them 3 years to fix the MouseScroll bug in the game and this bug is in relation to Windows 10 and texture issue. If it took 3 years for a Mouse bug than this will take them a decade to fix.

I cannot put money into a game that is development by developers fresh out of school. Off to find another game :/

The game should run perfect on your machine, I have a similar set up….

Except for…

GTX580 x 2
RoG extreme M/B

No problems here.

Make sure you optimise the game in Nvidia Geforce Experience.
Or use Nvidia Inspector to run your cards in SLI for GW2.

I have, I’ve done the GFE setup. I’ve tried everything possible.

I really think it’s an issue with the code not caching the textures properly

If you believe that there may be issues with textures you might try repairing the game. Maybe it helps.

I had wondered that too but this is a fresh Win10 install and fresh GW2 download. Before and after the game does the same.

Have you checked how is the HDD reading/writing frequency (easier way is through some led)? Usually applications and games may freeze due high HDD activity, like HDD getting 100% busy with read/write tasks. I haven’t had such issues and my machine is even worse than OP’s, then I don’t think it’s solely game’s fault. Make sure you haven’t any software running that could keep HDD busy, like AVs.

P.S.: Yes, freezes issues are easier related to HDD tasks than memory, GPU or CPU. Get your HDD 100% busy and you cannot do anything with your system at all, no matter if you have a 16 cores CPU with 256 GB RAM or what not.

P.S.S: Yes, I know it very well from my own experience because recently I had issues with my HDD filled with bad blocks, the system would get busy dealing with data in bad blocks causing the usage to go up to 100% and then all apps would stop responding out of nowhere for seconds or even minutes.

It has done it with 32bit and 64bit. Game goes through what feels like GPU Driver Reset. Game pauses for 1-2sec then picks back up. Happens every 10min / 15min.

Fresh Windows install and nothing is running. I’m wondering if GW2 doesn’t run well with Win10 or the Dx12 backend.

I have noticed that GW2 will randomly pause or freeze (not FreezeUp, just pause). I have reinstalled the my OS but I’m wondering if this is a Windows 10 issue. I don’t recall the game dong this on Windows 7, but it has been a while since I played the game back then.

Just goes to show they do NOT read the bugs reported (or simply don’t have the knowledge to fix it)

Stop suggesting Business CPUs to Gamers. i3/i5’s are not intended for hard gaming unless you want a mid-to-low system and don’t care that much about high performance. There are plenty of i7’s out there with more L3CACHE (which helps tremendously with gaming).

And the price difference between i3/i5 to i7’s is not even that large of a margin. Go with an i7

Not on my watch.

you know what, kitten it.

I deleted my thief for a few reasons:

1.) Trolls like those two, who are clearly trolling, are allowed to fill up an entire page of a serious topic with agenda-ridden lies plus 2 months worth of the same spam and not get banned.

2.) The developers listen to crying casualtastic baddies more than to the very people (me being one of them) who wasted most of their hours getting the most out of every part of thief gameplay. Since when is experience invalid?!

3.) The developers tried bull****ing us multiple times. MASSSSIVE +33% initiative regen (for a MASSSIVE 50% gain reduction)! Omg healing venom (a Signet of Malice for kittens on a kitten CD…. nope, venoms still suck. Would rather just use SoM.)!!! Oh and let’s not forget, we want you to be more engaged in combat so we made sword 2 unable to bypass stuns.

4.) Remember the last time we got a legitimate red post that actually showed genuine concern for the thief profession? I don’t.

5.) And then the mods dumped all of the thief QQ in the theif forums when they should have just deleted them.

6.) Then I get infraction after infraction for reminding scrubs they are bad players.

So let them damage the game further, I say.

I think you’re honestly the smartest poster I have seen on these forums. I could not have said what you said any better. This is why I quit the game. ArenaNet can have their CPU bound game along with their horrible thought process behind the game.

I have never seen a game rise up in hype before release and fall faster than its own hype. GW2 is a joke.

I have done over 500 Fractal runs in your game and your new reward system is still lacking for those who have beat their heads into the ground trying to obtain a Skin they would love to have. Instead you insult those, more?

I gave you good advice for those over level 40 Fractals: give us a turnin system with items we have been building up over and over in your Fractals for the amount of runs we have delivered in your game. Seriously why are you punishing your players who have worked hard to achieve nothing? This doesn’t make sense from your designers – but then again I see this over and over: you don’t listen to your players!

Go ahead, infract me for this. Infraction me for playing your Fractals over and over and to see this updating come into the game to slap me in the face, again. What has changed? You’re destroying my S/P build, and you turn right around and slap me in the face for putting in hours and hours of Fractal runs for nothing. Your reward system is so lacking! Fine, infract me for pointing out a flaw in your department system.

This is WRONG ArenaNet, WRONG! Why would you do this to your players who have worked SO hard in Fractals and never walked out of there with the weapon they want, and you turn around and are making it easier for those lower levels?

Yep same here. Lot of us just quit the game because every issue players have with their game falls on deaf ears at this company. And when you have negative issues with the game they just delete the post and pass infractions out. Sure I’m not the nicest in this area but that’s because they ignore small guilds players and ONLY listen to large based gild players.

And lot of us quit do to their balancing team losing their minds. Dec 10 I was not going to sit around to watch this group of people destroy their very own game while nit listening to the S/P thieves.

And yes the stupid ‘controlled’ farming they push on the players in this game is stupid.

Oh and over 500 fractal runs to never see the weapon skin I wanted. I’m not giving this company any more of my money (gems) when the don’t give a kitten about a players

I’ll throw my money at a company that actually gives a care. Not ArenaNet/NCsoft ever again.

so a pistol/dagger thief has more torments, stealth bleeds, imobs cripples
so a dagger dagger thief has more cloak and dagger, bleeds and evasions
so a sword dagger thief is gaining more initiative while dancing around
so a sword pistol theif is gaining more initiative while dancing around/stunning players

so a venom sharing build isnt giving up all the positional shadow steps and only pressing 1 because he got no ini

Yeah i get that it MAY slightly effect people doing a max dps rotation versus a mob that is never a threat to them and so they never do anything but attack, but i dont think that one playstyle should be the one which forces all others to have crappy ini gains. In fact i would hope they improve thier AI to where thats never the right answer for a fight.

how do you realistically propose they give all the builds which actually need more ini regen ini, without increasing the 80 you are used to, to 120 ini?

WOW. That’s very simple… how about giving thieves base regen of 1/second without any strings attached? Doesn’t mean flat out increasing the regen = instant OP thief. If you recall we’re getting FLAT nerfs on our Vigor. If our crit line is indeed generating too much initiative, we can tweak opportunist a little.

You are still failing to realize the key here is balancing the traits among themselves. Regardless of whether thief is op for other classes, the ini traits would still be requirements for the best builds. You wouldn’t be making more builds viable, you’d just be buffing everything.

Yes thief needs various buffs, but there’s a difference between balancing builds and balancing classes against each other

Uhh, am I the only dumb one here seeing this? THEN Why change it in the first place? What the heck man.

Lacking logic in these decisions man . . . a LOT

Yet all of this is being based off S/D thieves because there are many of those, and only far and few of S/P thieves which yet you continue to ignore in your game over and over. Where’s your logic in this? If S/D are your concern and the least played is S/P then you probably shouldn’t have given S/D the ability in the first place and actually tried matching up skills more uniquely within the thief builds.

You guys are really handling this badly on your end. I hope people stand up and fight your decisions back with their wallets and refuse to purchase any micro economy items in your game until you guys walk out of your Balance Meetings with more meaning logic and decisions for these changes. Infiltrator’s Return
The thing I have heard the second most discussion regarding. This is a big change to this skill, but we beleive it is a necessary one. In many cases this is not going to matter. There are only 2 situations where this is a truly impactful change.
1) It stops you from using this skill while stunned, which puts more burden on Sword/Dagger thieves saving their stun breakers. This is the kind of gameplay we want to encourage because it puts more risk in using a rewarding skill like Infiltrator’s Strike.
2) Mostly in PvP, this skill can no longer be used by S/D thieves to teleport stomp someone. This is actually the more impactful moment as it occurs more often, but I think it puts the burden on these players to run a second weapon set that can help them in these situations (OH pistol for instance.)

No, no, no, and no. The reason I absolutely am 100% against this change is the entire thief class is built around the idea that abilities are instant with no cast time with no cooldown (on weapon skills), because they are the only class with a resource pool for their abilities. Make it cost more initiative or give a debuff that slows down initiative gain. Reduce the damage, change the range, etc etc… I don’t care about that. What bothers me is the adding a cast time to a class who’s core mechanic is all about no cooldowns and being able to quickly maneuver around.

I’m not sure what you mean by instant, but this is currently the only instant weapon ability. We are not adding a HUGE cast time to this skill. This skill is going to have a 360 millisecond cast time. ~1/3 of a second.

Jon

With no access to stability (other than a 90 second elite) the ability to avoid the following hit if you had a good enough reaction time seemed like part of the design of the sword. It currently doesn’t break stuns anymore, just moves you (possibly) out of range. Would you be adversed to the idea of making the return in the 600-450 range instead of putting a cast time on it so that the immediate next (melee) hit can avoided while it does not completely remove pressure from you?

You can still avoid follow ups with this. 360 milliseconds is faster than almost any attack and certainly faster than almost all dangerous ones. The only loss here is using this while stunned and using it to teleport finish an opponent.

yep! so in sum you are basically removing the only usefulness of this ability and making it a gap closer, no one will hit that button again until it switches back to Infiltrator’s Strike.

Why not remove the shadow return all together? it would be just another Shadow Shot with a insignificant imob instead of the blind… It would be alot more usefull then the new (worse) shadow return.

It is currently for 3 initiative:

  • gap closer
  • 1s immob

for 2 more initiative:

  • escape when not stunned
  • remove 1 condition

With the new base regen that means you can gap close and immobilize and remove a condition every 5 seconds. Even if you spread that initiative over 4 skill slots that skill can be used every 20 seconds.

Jon

Forget it, Volrath.1473, they’ve already made up their mind on what they refuse to listen too. Now they’re making up excuses for the poor decision they’re making on Shadow Return, and it’s getting really sad.

2014 two major games release and with that ArenaNet has a LOT of work ahead of them when it comes to thoughtful balancing in this game. This Shadow Return nerf is the final straw showing they haven’t figured out what a S/P is within their very own game. That shows what’s NOT going on within their meetings.

How a company can sit back and make up excuse after excuse while THE MOST played is D/D and come right back to the Sword thieves again is beyond me. It’s much like one of their employees got killed by a Sword/Pistol thief and they’re crying nerf now. No real logical explanation for their logic on this.

Whatever, man. Look, I gotta admit it: the skill level required to get excellent results on a warrior is so incredibly low as compared to a thief is absolutely kittening ridiculous, and yet it’s the thieves that keep getting nerfed still. I’ve written so much about the thief and how to counter it, and have even provided ANet with the means of mathematically proving its balance, and not only have they completely ignored me, but they have in fact swayed with the mindless sheep droning on without end because of their own lack of skill.

Personally, I’m still going to play thief. I’ve played thief since I first got the game, and I find every other profession far too boring to even touch (excluding, maybe, mesmer). I also love the mobility that I get on my thief. I will, however, say one thing in particular: ever since necros became OP, I’ve been playing full zerker gear, which is optimal against condi builds but is generally more fun to play anyways. Since then, however, the purpose has shifted from being directed against condi builds to being against ridiculously OP warrior builds in general. If I don’t run zerker, I don’t do any damage and I get smashed anyways. If I do run it, then I take a huge risk that relies entirely upon my own skill while my opponent facerolls the keyboard. I do an insanely small amount of damage while having to stay at a range and time my dodges well. On the other hand, if I get hit more than once or twice, I’ll probably just drop dead.

I also now have to run 3(!!!) stun breakers as well + shadow return along with immobilize/cripple/chill breakers via Shadow Returns, Withdraws, and Roll for Initiatives at suboptimal times. I still run my 10/0/0/30/30 build, but the amount of effort in order to get anything done is almost ridiculous. Furthermore, guardians have now become so ridiculously difficult to kill that I usually take only two or three stabs at them before I decide to simply walk away. I’ve seen groups of 5-10 people in WvW unable to take down a guardian easily because of how stupid they are right now.

But no, ANet, thieves, of all professions, are completely OP.

Well said my brother Thief, well said. If only they would listen to such logic. Sadly common sense and logic – you’re either born with it, or you’re not. Sadly, they’re not

1. Where is our rapid powerful attack as your introduction of thief? We can’t even take down a berserker warrior/guardian

2. Where is our mobility as you remove break stun & add cast time to sword #2

That’s all I want to know
As we are the weakest on regen and reduce incoming damage, stealth & mobility is our only way to survive
And enemies may interrupt us when we going to stealth
So what’s the reason you make us unable to kill one before we die?
So what’s the reason you make us more harder to survive when harder to make damage?
I don’t really love perma-stealth, but I was forced to use it,or I will die before killing no one

You destroy perma-stealth, so how we have enough regen from stealth?
You destroy our burst, so how we make enough DPS?

I’m sorry but if you cannot take down a Berserker Warrior/Guardian you have a LOT to learn about this class! They are THE easiest class/build to take out in this game!

I’ll challenge you, video it and post it if you need help. I cannot believe some of you Thieves in this game! You guys sicken me with this type of garbage.

that and I’ve heard extensively that neverwinter is so disgustingly pay to win

Wait, and GW2 isn’t? Granted you can’t over-power other players with weapons not available within the game, but you can still purchase gems to purchase in-game items (legendary mats/weapons and ascended mats to level crafting).

Both are micro-economy games

Go away please. I literally lvled trickster rogue last night in nv, that’s a trash game. All you have to do is face roll.
Gw2 way beyond nv, and thief more interesting than trickster rogue.

I actually laughed when you said that. The abilities are about the same as GW2, 5×5, and there’s honestly not a lot of difference. You’ll learn to like it, just hang in there!

The reason I play sword thief

IS/SR needed a nerf, it acted as a stun break and a condition cleanse with no cooldown and 1200 range.

Warrior is my second main but he doesn’t even have a third of the play time I have on my Thief because they’re so easy to play. Which makes it really boring imo.

Stun removal has been removed from this ability for a very long time, where have you been? It only removes ONE condition.

Keep complaining though, it’ll be completely removed from the game before January.

ArenaNet wants Thieves to play in a 120×120 square range box, that’s why we’re losing the Teleportation abilities on Dec 10th.

Only all other classes are allow to leave a fight they’re about to lose, we’re not.

I mainly play thief since BETA but i think Warriors are really OP at the moment after they overbuffed their capability (while they keep on Nerfing Thief almost every patch) so i tried the cheese build mace stunlock + GS Hundred blades yesterday and ya its pretty OP! and i enjoying this current meta! lets hug the META! SPARTANS AAHHOOUU!!

You think Warriors are OP as a Thief? Man, I feel sorry for you. Warriors are the EASIEST kill for me as a Thief.

Has anyone tried the Trickster Rogue in Neverwinter? Wow, that’s what our Class should have been. Talk about amazing! I know it’s two different games, but hey . . .

That’s where I’m heading until EQN and Skyrim come out (after Dec 10).

They’ll remove/delete/lock/infraction this post. Logic went out the window last week. This is a new week.

Opportunist

Here is a probability distribution of the current opportunist with dagger auto attack (2 rounds; a total of 4 seconds and 8 individual hits not affecting the next time frame). As you can see its not really overpowered for regular attacking. What it is severely going to hurt is builds like S/P and P/P who can fit more than 8 attacks into a 4 second time frame. Those builds do not need a nerf right now. (to read it you need to know the region of at least X to Y initiative gain versus the total area under the curve).

(As a side note, I think what bothers me most about this patch is it rewards less active/aggressive play through this and HtC)

Good graph. You can draw it in a sky, write it in a dictionary or etch it into concrete, and it still wouldn’t be taken seriously by the team

Sword proposed change with nerf

Since we’re basically losing Infiltrator’s strike to a third nerf I would like to propose that Pistol Whip get changed.

  • Remove the lockdown-animation from the Whips completely (allow us to move)
  • .25% reduction on start animation is not enough and would like to see this with a more instantly cast.
  • Correct me if I’m wrong? But didn’t you say you were removing the root ability off of Infiltrator’s Strike? Thought I read this.

You’re asking us to take it and shove it with the IS change, at least help us out with Pistol Whip.

Thank You Arena Net Devs for the reponses

Just like the title says. Thank You Anet Devs for the feedback. I know it is hard to give us too much information, in fear of being mis-quoted. But thank you again for the input that you have given, and the light that you have shed on some of the major concerns we the Thief community have on the upcoming patch. Although there are some disagreements I too do have on the new game breaking Thief patch preview, I know you are doing this for the betterment of your game. I just hope we can stay in the loop, meaning, dev’s for every class. I know that was something you guys have been working on doing.

Keep up the good work !

Did I miss what they said? I haven’t see anything but the post from Jon about the changes coming to our class. If he’s said anything else to that, please provide a link.

Sigh

I though that everyone would be absolutely thrilled to get a +33% boost on the Initiative-reg.

Apparently, the attitude on this Thief forum is little else but pessimistic and vile.

Sure they “nerfed” Initiative-gain from Traits, but that’s fairly well balanced out by the initial initiative regeneration increase!

And the Vigor nerf was seen by other Professions, but now we’ve it easier to use evades from out Weapon skills!

Those of us that see this as a complaint is because 33% within GW2 is basically a .033%. It’s not straight up 33%, it’s a small portion off of another baseline number (one we don’t have).

You won’t see a significant change from this at all. Maybe in long PVE boss fights, but you’re not going to see a single difference in a PVP situation.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand this thread could have been avoided if the developers actually played the thief.

You know that’s a funny point. Throughout WvW this past year I have yet to see one of their ArenaNet employees out in WvW with a Thief. Just makes me laugh, and proves more points.

D/D didn’t get nerfed. Increasing base initiative gain by 33% is a pretty big deal.

It’s more than a big deal. It’s a MASSSSSSSSSIVE buff to all thief specs.

33% of WHAT base? Because I guarantee this will not be a noticeable change for the build that uses the MOST Int in the game

Oh, wait you’re nerfing Sword Thieves.

Infiltrator's Return Changes (Help)

Posted by: Crawford.4135

Crawford.4135

Nope. It does not need an init increase or any changes at all. The only people “spamming it” are noobs that use their entire initiative pool on 2. The skill is fine as it is to be honest.

Stop suggesting nerfs for a skill that in no way needs a nerf.

ArenaNet feels strongly enough to make a change and that is not going to change. My suggestions are simply to find an alternative route, one that is not a devastation.

Don’t worry as this thread will not be read by ArenaNet, that much I can guarantee
