I have not run into hardly any major issues with this game since release. Today, however, is another story. Last night after patch I randomly DC from the game, and today again and again.
My internet is perfectly fine with every test I have run on it (and has worked fine for a long time).
With the current state of WvW Orbs and now randomly being DC’d, I might just spit on the game installation later.
well apparently Nvidia are recommending their members to us SMAA injector for other games such as Borderlands 2. This is an interesting discussion indeed.
That’s due to the fact Nvidia has given up on 2x, 4x and 8x AA. Their future is TXAA and FXAA. ATI/AMD will be the way of the future for true AA.
In regards to third-party application use for Guild Wars 2, please refer to Gaile Gray’s thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-Third-Party-Programs/first#post354869
The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
The SMAA injector does none of the following, so there for yes it is safe. Instead of making players feel threatened by your policies, perhaps the developers could give us real AA within the game.
Hey, I pistol whip. It got a nerf, and I understand why it got one and I am ok with that.
Thieves can escape some of the most intense situations, and that is what we’re about. We’re NOT TANKS, so we have to move in and out to take out our enemy(s).
Another round of nerfs for retaliation but Thief still hitting too hard

GW2 is still CPU Bound (straight from Nvidia)

@michaeljhuman.3940
I clearly understand that, and from a development standpoint. However from a business standpoint the consumer has flooded the forums with performance issues, so resources are not being shifted towards that area on a higher priority. I enjoy the game, but the WvW situations are horrible and I am on a beefy system — I couldn’t even imagine those with low-end systems have to endure.
Also note that ArenaNET told us the game was no longer CPU bound upon release. I feel that was unfair of them to announce — then an Nvidia employee tells us differently.
Nvidia stated there are no performance increases for GW2. They did mention slight adjustments to the games AO, but said it was not that noticeable. One of the employees also stated that their drives will not improve GW2 performance due to the game still being in the CPU bound state.

Read the Nvidia replies to the drivers.
GW2 is still CPU Bound (straight from Nvidia)

Threads are still telling people to upgrade their video card for better performance. ArenaNET said the game was no longer CPU bound, but I have argued that since the game went live. Today a new set of Nvidia drivers were release and the comments flooded in.
As I read through the comments an Nvidia employee stated this:
“Guild Wars 2 is CPU-bound, meaning performance is primarily determined by the CPU in your computer and not the GPU. As such, there’s nothing we can do. All I can suggest is overclocking your CPU.”
Source: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/nvidia-geforce-310-33-beta-drivers-released/
Last night we got our first content to the game with some adjustments to classes with a new slew of content — which is great!
Why, however, is ArenaNET not looking deeper into the game performance that has flooded the forums? I have checked the Dev Tracker since launch and still have not seen anything stating a fix is coming.
My anger was towards Nvidia, but for one of their very own employees to state what we have all said was true, my anger is shifting towards another entity now . . . . that and the games Antialiasing is horrible.
Do not upgrade to a 600 series. The game is heavily CPU bound still, though a lot was removed off that when the game went live.
GW2 still uses and utilizes the CPU more than your GPU does. Upgrading a video card will not improve the games performance by a large factor (only minor)
- GW2 shaders are not completely optimized
- GW2 is still quite heavy on the CPU usage
- GPUs are only being utilized around 30-50%
- Game is still quite new, no performance issues have been patched
So going for a 400 to 500 you will not see a large difference, nor will you going 400 to 600. Until the developers have optimized the games performance areas within the code, your CPU is your best partner.
Good, im happy to see them play. To me it means that they are looking into the mechanics of WvW.
If that were only true . . . .
As ArenaNET might tell you:
1. We don’t discuss Guild Wars 2 Orb in forums
2. Refer to 1.
GW2 WvW Orb is a dark area you will want to avoid in the forums. No developer will touch the subject. Large guilds have told ArenaNET they like the Orb situation — every gaming developer listens to the biggest guilds (regardless of their IQ)
Don’t worry: you won’t see Anet developers playing on servers that don’t have an Orb.
ArenaNET does not want players to be rewarded for losing or winning — it’s more about jumping in and enjoying their game.
That said, the WvW Orb situation has in fact killed WvW for me. I was a heavy, heavy WvW until the Orb hacking and buffing destroyed the balance. (now that I have mentioned “Orb” within this thread, no developer will touch it with a reply — guaranteed)
Due to the Orb issues within WvW, a lot of players are having difficulty trying to re-take Keeps and Towers. You’re not alone, and here is a wonderful guide for those heavily into WvW, but want a better strategy for struggling servers.
Please enjoy:

Remember this video? I’ll bet you do. Do you remember some of the skill ranges and other nick-nacks in the video? I’ll bet you do.
Where are they in the game, because they’re not on any Thief I’ve seen.
Also notice the character in the video doesn’t fall flat on her face when jumping off the house….you jump more than 4’ in this game and you’re flat on your face.
Love the Short Bow teleportation ‘range’ in the video — because that range is not available in the game
Quite amusing out of all the threads on GW2 forums, this is the one their employees refuse to come in and say anything —- because it mentions the WvW Orb.
Unreal ArenaNET
Well, you don’t see them replying to this thread do you?
I think that answers enough
These gold spammers are really annoying in the game, but you can’t turn a blind eye to their great prices — and that got me a bit frustrated.
I won’t go off and purchase gold outside of the games ToS and risk my account being perma-banned — simply not worth it.
However in-game gold is a bit pricey when you look at what the gold spammers are spamming and what ArenaNET is stating.
4,000 Gems to Gold is about ~15g will cost you $50 (OUCH!)
Yet the gold spammers are giving you 10g for $4.
I think ArenaNET should fix the market value a tad
WARNING: DO NOT PURCHASE GOLD FROM OUTSIDE THE GAME! (just wanted to state that)
Really sick of my mouse moving off Monitor 1 and ending up on Monitor 2 and minimizing the flippin game.
This, Is, Annoying!
The Commander Icon is somewhat nice for locating where the large groups are, and the rest that goes along with it, but there are some serious issues.
- Guilds are sending Spies over to report Commander locations
Once the server knows of enemy Commanders locations, they can then attack at will at those locations or avoid those locations entirely.
How to prevent this:
- Commander should be Guild based only
- Commander should be able to allow other alliance guilds to see him/her in WvW
- Commander should not be seen by the entire server (only those guilds he/she has formed an alliance with)
What will not fix it:
- Server transfers that cost Gems
- Server transfers that will have cooldowns (Why? see below)
- I’ll but another GW2 game and run two at the same time, make my other account a Commander spy
Hope this is taken serious by the developers, but I’m unsure if they will :/
(edited by Crawford.4135)
I like how Sorrows had to use 6 Treb’s to take our little Borlis server last night. Amazing how our server IS the biggest threat in WvW LOL!
I could not stop laughing, and I’m still laughing.
Oh, and don’t worry about finding us on the map with your Guild Spies looking for our commanders, we’ve decided to no longer use the icon so you can not locate them.
Is it safe to say: stop complaining about Theives in this post, too?
ArenaNET really needs to do some major adjustments, there’s no doubt. One thing that really bothers me is how some servers are teaming up to dominate one server — not all of them are doing this, but we’ve had a couple of weeks of this on ours.
Then you have server spies where guild members of servers transfer over to the other servers to relay where the Commanders are on the map so that their guild and others can attack on demand. (our guild has decided to not use the commander icon anymore until ArenaNET locks server transfers)
Another aspect of WvW is IT IS Zerg vs. Zerg — I don’t care how ArenaNET labels it; it’s Zerg Vs. Zerg and I am not a fan of that. Three servers on a battle field is a bad idea in the current state of WvW. Personally I would rather have two servers battleing it out each week instead of 3, but the WvW map was designed for 3.
I think WvW should be done in layers to allow more players to join WvW and not just the 100+ per server and sit in queue all day. At the end of the week the points could be tallied up and posted.
I think Anet has done a great job releasing GW2 and create a very fun game. However I think some understanding of how WvW was supposed to work was left in the closet and the janitor needs to dust off those notes and have a few meetings.
It was fun, until I watched 6 players exploit through a keep wall. Reported them, but exploiters/hackers who are in large guilds never get banned.
Hey, it just makes WvW more challenging, what’s the problem?
and I’ll write a letter to the Obama ministration . . .
Also — what did you expect? WvW is in a horrible state atm, so get used to it until the Devs get WvW situated.
Btw Anvil Rock (or shall we say Fraggle Rock), you guys gang up with other servers to 2v1 another server all the time. So, if our server had a spy, you’ll just have to get used to it until you’re able to fend for yourselves in WvW.
So, Jonathan, you got an awesome new face paint job, what do you think? “I like turtles…”
Consider I haven’t had to pay a monthly fee in two months, which equals to $30 and that’s half of the game price, . . . . Yes.

</Sarcasm disabled>
Turn the sound quality down to Low or Midrange within the game settings and this will no longer happen.
ArenaNET is not using DirectX sound, so it’s not like there’s a difference between Low and High in the game — other than sounds get delayed (like you hear yourself walking behind you) when on Low.
Stop telling people to purchase i5 processors for heaving gaming!
Seriously folks, know what you’re buying. I would NEVER touch an i5 for a gaming system, ever.
Cheaper? Yes, better? No.
I look at it this way:
i5: Great for companies/businesses
i7: Great for companies/businesses — but built for gamers
Sitting here at work, what’s this? Another PC with an i5, because it’s affordable for huge companies (even with a discount) to purchase thousands of. Why cheaper? Less L2/L3 cache!
But it’s the same Ghz speed as an i7! Don’t care, L2/L3 cache for gaming is better performance for larger loads on the CPU!
But it’s not that big of a difference! Yes it is.
Nuff said
*Edit: Oh, and if you go out and purchase an Alienware PC, don’t ever post in these forums again. Real geeks will come haunt you for Halloween in the game! *
ByEEeeEE!
(edited by Crawford.4135)
GW2 is still heavily CPU bound, but not all of it. If ArenaNET were to tell you how many lines of code this game has, you would fall out of your chair. Code places a lot of stress on CPUs because that is what it is intended to do.
Priore to the game going live the game was all CPU bound, but they have since removed a huge majority of that. GW2 does use the CPU for a lot of calculations and, in simpler words, bleeds into the Graphics Card for other necessary calculations.
Many of you also forget to mention how important BIOS settings are within your computer. Countless times I have seen those with high-end systems not understand the important of proper BIOS settings (coughAlienWareBuyers).
Make sure your BIOS setters are in fact correct, and when I say this I am talking about proper memory timers, proper FSB settings, etc., etc.
If your problems continue and you have all of the latest drivers (along with a clean machine), then and only then consider upgrading if you have the extra cash to do so (seriously, this economy isn’t a spending spree).
Things to consider when purchaicing a new PC:
- Fastest Memory timings you can obtain
- The most, affordable that is, L2/L3 Cache on the CPU you’re eyeballing (this does matter!)
- Head for the hills and get the most, affordable, memory you can so you ‘can’ disable Virtual Memory in Windows
- Head into SSD (this helps load times, NOT FPS)
- Quality video card with plenty of memory (textures LOVE eating up memory)
- Quality motherboard, know what you’re buying before you buy one, or get someone to help you that ‘actually’ understands the ins-and-outs of the board for the CPU you want. (don’t listen to those who act like the understand the electronics behind the technology, you can easily spot those folks)
Really a lot of it simply comes down to understanding how every works from top to bottom, and if you don’t that’s fine — just find a trusting friend to help assist you with this.
Now I’m going to say something that is going to bring out those I mentioned above out of the woodwork: stop buying i5 processors! No, they’re not bad CPUs, but they are more affordable. However the problem with i5’s is less L2/L3 onboard Cache — you don’t want less for a gaming system, you want more.
i5 and i7 CPUs for gaming is a factor — and I know i7’s are more expensive, but in terms of more really does play a part here. Every computer I have build I have always gone for the most L2/L3 cache as possible. When I didn’t, I noticed a difference. (no, not a HUGE difference, but enough to notice).
Also because you have a GTX 680, or whatever the case, this doesn’t mean you’re going to notice head over heals performance. It’s like one bad apple mixed in with several good apples: it will effect all of the apples in the basket. If you spent that money on a GPU, you should also consider upgrading your CPU along with it (and in the end, setup your BIOS correctly, and have good memory to punch it further down the road)
I have a great system. It’s not the latest and greatest, no, but it runs great. Do I have low FPS in WvW? You bet, who doesn’t? That’s a developer issue there. But when I’m in low pop-area’s in WvW I maintain my 65 FPS. Why? I have a great CPU, Memory, Videocard, and perfectly pitched BIOS settings on the motherboard that take full advantage of the CPU, Memory and Video card.
for the record:
i7 960 Intel CPU (8Mb L3 Cache)
12GB G. SKill Memory (7-9 latency capability)
EVGA GTX 590 (dual GPU video card, 3GB of video memory)
EVGA SLI-3Way motherboard
Game settings are all set to High (Ultra shadowing hurts performance, ArenaNET is using horrible DX9 shadowing instead of DX10 shadowing which performs better on DX11 cards)
I’ll even add this to my post: I don’t use the in-game FXAA (Nvidia can take FXAA/TXAA and shove it up their rear-ends because it stinks!) I have full blown AA with 2x SSAA and my graphics are wonderful! So, with that said, I’m actually pushing my video card harder (it runs around 70% – 90% usage until I have about 70 players on my screen, then my CPU gets pushed harder while the video card goes down to around 30% usage).
All of this, and my game runs really well — but I won’t sit here and say this game runs as smooth as World of Warcraft because GW2 uses a lot more polygon count, so you’re going to suffer more in some areas. In all the game has done quite well for being out a few months now compared to other game launches that have blown.
Anyway, I hope I have helped. Also to avoid any arguments that will more than likely be started up by geeks, I will not respond to any posts or come back and read any comments to my post — I don’t have to time bicker about “you’re wrong” statements. If you, the OP, need help you can Private Message me and I will respond to you directly if you would like some assistance.
Now, back to smacking players around in WvW!

I’ve noticed this, too. SSD here as well. Game is using WAY more memory now as well: I’m hitting 2.8GB of memory usage. Last couple of patches has caused a memory leak within the game.
Frankly that’s impossible, being the game only pushes the GPU to around 40%. Just kick the fan up higher.
There has been SLI profile for GW2 for a long time.
You guys need to understand that until ArenaNET forks over tons of money to Nvidia, GW2 will never benefit from Nvidia cards as it should.
Nividia is for First Person Shooter games
ATI/AMD is for MMORPG
Don’t believe me? Look at all the games Nvidia supports like a new child needing a diaper change. They ONLY care about FPS games, period.
Welcome to corporate america
What’s DirectX 11?
Oh you mean that thing companies told us to go out and buy and spend money on, only to then later get Tessellation Water thrown in our faces in some games?
Ya, the day GW2 gets REALL tessellation will be the day I give away 15 GTX 690’s (and I don’t mean Tessellation water, because that seems to be the only thing developers know how to toy with)

Fey.7610, not sure where you read this garbage, but you are incorrect.
Drop your sound quality within the game down to Low or Mid. This seemed to resolve it for now. The game, sadly and ODDLY does not use DirectX sound, it just uses some generic crud :/
I don’t think ArenaNET has plans to give us anything better for sound, at least it’s not on their table. ($180 sound card and I can’t utilize it in 90% of the games made by developers. Corporate America!)
Massive, huge rendering issues in WvW siege fights (getting worse)

Posted by: Crawford.4135
In large battles many players are suffering from rendering issues where you can not see the players approaching you (or those on your own server in most cases).
Two of us in the guild pointed out that our systems are well above spec for this games requirements.
It is making large siege attacks almost pointless, simply because you cannot see your enemy at times or even those in your own guild (just the dead players that have the blue icon above their heads)
My system
Intel i7 960
12 GB Triple Channel Memory
Nvidia EVGA GTX 590
Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
256GB SSD HD
Hopefully this is something that is being looked into, but when this happens you’re better off logging out of the game and re-queuing into the WvW.
I would also like to add about 1-2 patches ago I have noticed a slight memory leak within the game. On average, prior, the game hovered around 2GB of memory usage. Today I kept the Performance Monitor running and noticed it creep to 2.5GB memory, then 2.8GB and would never release any of that memory being used, even when leaving WvW.
Anyway, I hope this gets addressed.

It has been happening since the patch prior to yesterdays, but yest the game is loading much slower now, and I’m on an SSD :/
ArenaNET wants us all using Dual Dagger specs ONLY, and you can bet Dagger Storm is next on their list of nerfs.
Hey bud. Just wanted to say thanks for the video
Just a correction I saw up front: Hide in Shadow’s isn’t our biggest heal (common mistake)
Video is pretty low quality but I was able to follow along. Thanks for sharing bother!
So yeah, I learned today that our biggest guild was prolly transfering to an oceanic server (ANV).
First I argued with them leaving, telling them they are affraid of challenge and everything you can tell about it…
But I was left with no argument to counter them.
They were telling me how it was bad to spend all their money during the day to defend, only to come back the morning after and everything was gone. Litteraly, when I wake up, the map is all green and every tower is fully upgraded. Didn’t know how to respond to that.
Somoene told me : This is a game, we don’t have fun anymore, so we switch. I had nothing to respond to that ether. Our WvW in AR is limited to call out for a group, get 5-10 players togheter if you are lucky and roam around hit and running camp. If you try to defend it, be sure a zerg 2-4x outnumbering you will come.(It’s happened twice today, it take about 5-10 min). That’s all we do all day long, hit and running. At least we have our outmanned buff to help us (oh well).
I’m still having fun, sure its getting boring sometime, but I’m staying on AR. The only good thing I can expect from that is that MAYBE, we will drop in the last tier. The tier we are stuck right now is just Stomp Fest each weeks. Too bad we cant have a weeks Borliss Pass/Anvil Rock/Ferguson Crossing, it would be so awesome!!
Here some picture of the last time I tried to defend a tower ( We were a zerg of about 20. we don’t see much of them on the picture cause they were dead).
Maybe you guys shouldn’t team up with others servers next time. You know, actually defend and take your own keeps instead of helping NSP because you’re chicken of them. Your server lost TONS of respect when we encountered this last week.
We have no respect for Anvil Rock after watching your server 2v1 our server. Whimps
Wait, the guy that got caught red-handed says his account must have gotten hacked, yet he’s typing in the forums like he got his account bank a few min. ago.
ArenaNET approves of hackers, that’s for dang sure…
Until ArenaNet signs the game off to Nvidia, this will not happen. Nvidia will ‘not’ support the game (mostly because it is not a First Person Shooter game) with better performance.
ArenaNet has to fork out tons of money to Nvidia to get that performance, then AMD/ATI can follow suit.
Welcome to Corporate America
