this has been happening to me lately as well. I thought they fixed it before but I guess it has cropped up again
well there needs to be a “balance” of nerfing and buffing of professions
so tone down warriors a little bit while giving some of the other professions a bit of a buff
Or just make CoF a whole lot harder
I quite enjoy my necro and engineer (probably my two favorite professions along with my elementalist). I do feel Rangers could use a little more spicing up though.
It’s one of the game’s best features for me.
i think the guild missions should be instanced.
more instancing? no thanks
The problem is, unlike WOW, you are not directed to do anything in particular. In WOW you are directed to grind dungeons. Maybe more end game direction is in order?
I’d say the opposite. More sandbox features should be put in. Less themepark, more sandbox
I enjoy the sword but yeah, I hate this effect. It makes it feel real clunky, at least in comparison to the rest of the combat in the game.
I agree with killcannon. WP is suggesting more interaction with NPCs, not exclamation point quests. You wouldn’t even know which NPCs have something to tell you. It just adds a little more personality and feeling to areas without hearts/dynamic events/etc.
Yeah that’s what I thought it was when I saw the video. I think the title of his video sort of misrepresents his point of the presentation.
Someone else who disagrees with WP.
http://whyigame.wordpress.com/2013/02/17/gw2-traditional-quests-hell-no/
Though WP is quality.
A very good rebuttal. I usually agree with woodenpotatoes but I only agree in part to this current topic, pretty much along the lines of this particular blog.
Again, I agree with the premise of the issue, just not with WP’s solution.
Well correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think WP is proposing putting in the traditional kill 10 rats type of quests. What this is really about is vacant areas (such as in the towns) and there being no connection to them.
The crafting daily is so much bullkitten. I honestly NEVER craft!
But now I apperently have to do this stuff, and am crafting bronze horns…
crafting one takes like 2 seconds to do, just refine the material that you gathered
Pretty much everything from level 1 up till 50. The moment you reach Claw Island, it all falls apart.
It’s my opinion as well. I prefer the early story stuff since it is about you. Once it all converges I feel like a bit player and the story isn’t about me anymore.
I like the dailies in that I practically complete all of it by just playing the game and not going out of my way. To finish it up I have to do a little extra work but that’s not really that much to ask.
I much prefer this style of daily to what a lot of other games have.
I still wouldn’t mind them adding in some Zaishen type dailies though.
your name is oddly appropriate for your topic, OP
The animations are pretty darn good I think. One of the best western made mmos for animations.
I’ve learned today that apparently playing 6-8 hours a day makes you a casual player
I haven’t seen a bot in ages. Doesn’t mean they aren’t there but certainly a lot lower in number than in the first few months of release.
If anything this game’s poor design has reaffirmed my faith in other MMOs were the developers actually put forth honest effort. GW2 feels like nothing but a formless mass of ideas that didn’t pan out, everything tried an afterthought to the next “big idea” that got abandoned down the line.
An example of the poor design would be nice to hear.
- Hearts replacing quests ruins replayability
- Personal story being devoid of meaningful choices despite being advertised otherwise
- Events are buggy and non-functional months after release
- Event bosses are mindless zergs
- Lack of the Holy Trinity effectively killed complex boss design
- sPVP is a complete joke, poorly balanced and completely abandoned
- WvW is nothing but zergs, capture trading, and door smashing
- Dungeons are a mess of bugs and erratic requirements, either too easy or full of fake difficulty
- Loot DR implemented to force gem purchases upon the playerbase
- Bots left to do their thing, ruining the economy
- Servers list accounts tied to server, not actual populations to hide poor player retention
- Legendary weapons not legendary, just a massive grind
- Trahearne (THIS IS MY STORY LOL)
- Zhaitan (SPAM 2 TO KILL THE ELDER DRAGON LOL)
Need I say more?
How about something factual this time?
If facts aren’t your definition of factual then there’s no helping you.
Almost all of those are just opinions, not facts.
Pretty sure PlanetSide2 is doing fabulously.
The best part of GW2 is the dodge mechanic. I can’t play any other MMO that doesn’t let me dodge or evade attacks coming at me — and I’m not talking about using LoS like in WoW. I wish every game got rid of “hit chance”, and just let you either dodge it or not.
If you like it that much, you should give TERA a try. They just went Free2Play.
It’s actually an action MMO (unlike GW2 which just added Dodge), where you can dodge everything once you’re good enough at it. All attacks are skill-shots and hitboxes are more relevant in combat.
I absolutely hate the animation root in Tera. That has pretty much killed any enthusiasm I had for an otherwise very nice combat system.
Going back to typical mmo combat has been ruined for me for sure. I’ve tried playing some other mmos from time to time and I couldn’t do it due to the combat.
I think, because it would need to not just be good, but £10-15 per month better than any of the F2P or B2P games out there, which would take some doing.
that’s really the key I think. I cannot think of any sub based mmo that is better than a f2p or b2p mmo. So if I can get the same or better entertainment without paying the sub fee, then why play a sub fee game
I would never pay a subscription for any game.
Pretty much the same. I’ve stopped playing subscription games a while ago. If this one had one, I wouldn’t play it either.
endgame is a misnomer
the crystal desert and the jade sea
If mounts were ever to be put in I imagine they will be like the other cosmetic items in this game, the town clothes. Your skill bar would change to some new skills. As soon as you enter combat you would be dropped from the “mount” and you revert back to your combat attire.
I doubt the people in favor of mounts would want something like that but maybe they would. With that said, I’d like to have a Siege Devourer like in EotN of guild wars.
The world is already pretty darn small. Having mounts (assuming they have a speed buff associated with them) would even make it smaller.
I’m sure there will be some crossover between the two games.
seems no different than every other mmorpg out there in that regard, I’d actually argue that the mechanics of this game lends itself to a friendlier player base. In other games such as wow everything is competitive that it certainly leads to a more vitriol environment than here
perhaps you are talking about being social as in talking in chat? yeah probably less of that here but that is certainly different than being friendly
What does player activity have anything to do with the type of game it is?
The most popular product of that particular market mean it is the best?
Is Budweiser a better beer than Guiness?
1, its about marketing
2, yes a more populair game will have the most players
So your whole post is about marketing? Not about actually improving the game?

I haven’t really noticed any difference to be honest.
Early zones aren’t really the problem. It’s the 25-70 level areas that seem to be sparse. However, this isn’t new to just guild wars, every mmo is like that.
I quite enjoy the combat in GW2. I do agree that I hope they give us an option to switch some of the weapon skills around (say you have a pool of 10 skills per weapon, you choose 5 of those skills to put on your skill bar). Also I wish they would adjust a few of the animations on a few weapons, such as the 1 skill for the ranger 1h sword.
Absolutely not. I’d rather see them expand the content at level 80 and sprinkle in some pre level 80 content rather than add another tier of levels to the game.
I think the changes to Orr have been excellent. Perhaps now add a few different events to change up the pace there and it’ll be gold.
Heh, I haven’t seen this happen but I can believe it.
Anyway, it’s easy enough to find some dead npc’s to rez, so not a big deal.
An unfortunate side effect of this particular daily.
Also, if you rez the same NPC you won’t get credit other than the first time (at least that is how it seems to me).
It’s not even that much effort that is needed either. If you are looking for a particular look, that might take a bit more time and effort. But for the “stats”, it’s relatively simple and not much effort at all.
I know it’s all relative but look at some of the other mmos that have been out for the past 10 years and you’ll realize how good you have it here (in regards to gear for time/effort).
MMO’s are not the best types of games for pvp. ArenaNet may try to get this to be an e-sport or even have some decent pvp but they have a lot of work ahead of them in part due to it being an mmo.
Hmm, coming from other games this one is hardly a grind. I suppose it’s all relative though.
Yeah I’m down to 1 file remaining and it has stopped at 0.00KB/sec
Managed to get the 10 combo kills by laying down a ring of fire while a ranger shot through it. It seems that it didn’t matter what part of the fight this occurred, as long as it occurred before the foe was dead.
hmm, I’ve been laying down fields for the past hour but I have yet to get any credit for a combo kill.
Does this work only with combo finishers? I’ve been putting down all kinds of combo fields for people to use but I haven’t gotten 1 yet.
biggest group size in gw1 was 12, grimmyboy
a big difference there though is that you had npc mercs that you could fill out your party with. here you don’t have that flexibility
In my opinion a lot of the criticism has to do with the way the cutscenes are presented. I get it that you were trying to be a bit more artistic but it just doesn’t come off well. In addition to taking you out of the world it just accentuates the voice acting since that will be about the only focus in that scene. I suppose an analogy would be in a play where the actors have the stage and props to work with as opposed to just having the two actors telling lines to each other. The actors have to be extraordinarily good to pull it off.
I’m level 20 with 20,000 karma…easy peasy
Look at the date of the original post.
There weren’t karma jugs three months ago.
The Factions OST was my favorite soundtrack in the whole series. Fantastic stuff.
Yes, but your post was about people putting theirs up for sale and people buying them. Takes a lot of work either way.
Except if you buy gems and trade them to gold to buy the legendary. The ratio between hours spent in game to get a legendary or hours spent making the real life money to buy gems doesn’t compare at all.
So, there will be people running around showing off their legendaries that put in the work and then those who simply bought them via real cash.
I can imagine that people who worked for it in game might feel a bit cheated. All in all the karma system should provide unique rewards that are only attainable via karma. That side of the game is not used nearly enough. A missed opportunity.
It cost like $700+ and upwards to $1400 to buy enough gold from a gold selling sight to buy a legendary from the TP. I highly doubt we will see that many people who are willing to spend that kind of money
I find it quite mind boggling that anyone would spend that kind of real currency for a virtual item. Really, I don’t even believe anyone would.
The toxic community is really just on the forums. And to be honest these forums are no different than just about every other mmo forum out there. It’s where people go to complain.
