At first I didn’t understand the nerf but why did the Shortbow even need any nerfs in the first place? It’s our best AOE and utility weapon which sees the least complaints but yet they nerf the autoattack which is slow already, infact the 1st two shortbow AOE’s it’s now hard to hit anything now..

this change does not promote pvp.

So what? You could say the same about the AOE Cap so whats the point in large scale pvp if it’s about blobbing/turtling/etc up, spamming certain skills esp if there’s lag involved and leads to little class diversity if you’re into that sort of stuff. (maybe that’s also anet’s fault for lack of balance though)
Anyway the pvp part isn’t the fundamental part of why many people play wvw week in week out, you have objectives to cap, siege machines, fight over and defend which gives things a purpose and allows even low levels to get involved without elitism.
Back on topic are arrow carts I can’t quite gauge how overpowered they are now but I doubt even the buff without the mastery makes it OP its the extra damage perhaps, cause it was impossible to take down a whole zerg with golems and defend our keep on EB so many times before and even just an hour ago, now even AC’s despawn after 30 mins!

I still enjoy it as being part of the community, the aspects of wvw like sieging and point capping but I’m getting frustrated as of late, the Borderlands maps at prime time are too small where large groups can just respawn close by, there is too much of an advantage to people blobbing cause of the ridiculous AOE cap which needs to be increased, the lag is unbearable especially at prime time and of course the matchups can get stale.

Wv3 isn’t that scary and it can be fun you can’t expect things the easy way, on my server we’ve worked hard for months to get to the challenges of Tier 1 but stick around and help your server out long enough and you ’ll get things eventually. One way or another at the end of the day Anet decided it was a good idea to have world completion in wvw perhaps to get people to try it out and get involved with their own wvw community.

i havent logged on gw2 in a week, did we drop down a tier? hope we did, cant wait to fight different opponents for a change.

Nope some people haven’t given up fighting I don’t blame them even though it’s been a strange week, the way the Glicko system is we’ll be stuck in Tier 1 for another week at least.

I’ve thought from launch all EU servers are actually in NA anyway, many of us did those ping tests and IP checks on all the connections the game was making, because it was curiously laggy, and they all went to somewhere in Texas iirc.

Nah I’m pretty sure they’re based in Germany, anyway if people were to move to a NA server I guess it would depend on what hours they can play rather than worry about the lag, I think many would miss fighting prime time EU guilds as it is but good luck with this anyway.

I’m all for increasing the cap but i doubt removing it is the best idea, either way they’ll have to spread out the effect of AOE buffs and damage. Right now I think there’s so much profession bias in a ‘zerg rather than builds, even with culling gone the lag has gotten worse and as important as movement is the key thing is to spam AOE and blob up and hope you hit something or don’t get hit..

I would imagine the massive lag that occurs especially at prime time is due to larger than usual blobs these days spamming AOE’s, buffs and all sorts of things in large scale battles, so the only fix is better servers or reduce the population..

The lag was insane inside and outside Stonemist tonight even while some of us were fighting overgrown grub outside Vizunah’s keep, shame I forgot to take a screenshot for proof of that. We got SM in the end after you Vizunah had it most of the day but the lag was so ridiculous that we could not even move I hope anet can sort their servers out soon.

Yea I’ve seen groups of people chasing 1 guy for WXP the way you can get it is not quite right, but looking at the abilities they seem to cater towards smaller groups and scouts the hype will die down eventually.

If the culling fix works as intended it should improve things massively and hopefully with much less lag also but things I’m finding all too often is large groups of people suddenly rallying and perhaps due to the AOE cap there tends to be a over stacking of professions with certain builds to spam AOE, boons and heals, it can get so mindless and messy that I’m not surprised about the lag.. I know iIn the top tiers the zerg has the big emphasis but outnumbered skilled groups imo needs a bit love.

You know what even as a thief I’ve just come across a Glass cannon thief that abuses culling more than I do and he hits harder than me, maybe the potential end of culling is enough to solve the QQ over stealth and those builds without potentially punishing other builds. Then again I hope they tested this out themselves rather than us being the test bed.

I think we should wait for full details, but best thing they would do to stop zergs etc farming is to not allow kills to be the highest WXP reward like it is now for normal XP..

Over stacking on a stacked server is not the best thing to do. Now the opposing server needs to be stacked or perhaps overstacked to beat an overly stacked server which didnt need to be overstacked in the first place. welcome to Stack Wars 2.

Less queues and QQ for the lower tiers servers thanks to fre.. paid transfers.
Anyway did anyone have major lag during prime time on EB? I thought I was going to lag out at one point, we really wanted that shiny castle but for lag and the SFR zerg always arriving at the right time.
Shout out to that Vcy P/D thief two nights ago near Anza bridge and I wouldn’t count Vizunah out so soon we all suffer burn out at some point and get reorganized good luck at reset.

I’m sure it’s not completely aimed at us anyway we can still use stealth skills as we want without perhaps stacking but still we get revealed if we attack anyway, all you qq’ers hoping they will make all us thieves even skilled ones more vulnerable so you can farm us as squishy as we are without being properly geared and traited you are going to be surprised. I sure hope they intend to buff and nerf other stuff considered OP and to balance things out.

No more near-perma stealth or attacking from stealth for j00. Seriously, I think that aspect of it thrills me more than anything else lol!!

The most skilled thieves won’t have a problem with it I’m afraid.
I’m just hoping it’s finally the end of dying to invisible thin air blobs and aoe RROD’s (xbox 360 pun) and I also hope the skill lag is minimized.

Doing a PvE dungeon or sPvP is more challenging and fun than nightcapping against no players. The essence that allows player to have fun in WvWvW is the fight between players. If I woke up at 8am and decided to play and there would be no opposition doing WvWvW I’d rather do Arah’s for fun than bash on doors.

Vizuna has been carried by players who love to bash on doors to being known as the EU number one ranked WvWvW server. Look at the income history of Vizunah in every one of their matchups. And you ask why people, who consider WvWvW to be essentially about a fight between players don’t like your server?

Do you comprehend how ridiculous it is that more points are generated between 4-12am by people who take empty keeps by killing doors than by people who take fully defended keeps at 8pm? And you ask why people who like fighting dislike Vizunah?

People should know by now wvw is not about the pvp or large scale pvp, even that is incredibly flawed with the culling, blobs and lag and is secondary to defending/sieging/capping things for points for the tick, we will soon be getting a progression/rewards system which rewards us for kills anyway. One thing that anet seems happy with is off peak points being earned without much resistance making it disproportional to points earned at peak I think is not right, I am one who wants to play for the challenge and fun and that is with/against skilled and or organized groups of people rather than win at all costs like that but I do not begrudge people who do it cause it is how it is.

I still think it’s too high but it’s been easy to adapt to the only problem I had was last night when no one would listen to my scouting reports on EB while being double teamed while we held SM, that makes me wonder if people would respond to seeing orange swords better.
There’s not enough reward for defending either, I’ve defend 914 towers, 2,000 or so objectives but guilds and groups of people will obviously rather fight for the loot or attack for the bigger reward .

That and the use of veil etc are important strategies when fighting in big groups with the AOE limit it increases the chances of you hitting a group, the culling and at times the lag, I guess we’ll have to wait and how efficient this will be until later this month when the ‘big’ WvW update hopefully arrives.

This is a terrible idea as many people mention it would create more elitism, promote the turtle zergs farming kills and would put randoms and pugs at a big disadvantage up against large guild groups as it is already.
I don’t like how capping stuff with little resistance at certain hours heavy influences the score but this would be the wrong way to discourage it. The whole point is the objective/strategy/point tick, not fighting gvg, rvr or gvr. Anet seem content the way it is anyway. We are getting a progression system that rewards the individual player for kills this month anyway.

As Caedmon says it’s always been like that, Eternal is the best map around I reckon but big stonemist battles are a epic cluster-kitten all the time and it even happens outside of SM so you can’t avoid it.

Hurrah took long enough, the culling does verge on unplayable for me at times even though I solo roam/ alot lately to avoid the issue. Still I feel I need a break from the game from time to time due to this and other issues with wvw. If it actually works out and doesn’t get delayed maybe I’ll be able to use more stealth in my build without feeling guilty and maybe we’ll see less thief bashing threads for once heh?

When did they say this? Would even a small increase cause balance issues or are they afraid of enraging the TMNT when there are many for a increase? Did they really intend large scale battles to look so silly, make some people somehow almost invincible and hard to see?

I think it’s a good move but 25 is maybe too high, even if you have scouts sat around areas it’s causing some panic already.
Like the culling though, which I don’t have preference on and in the future if they decide to increase the AOE cap it’s something they should have researched and asked for user feedback.

As a Thief myself I’ve gone up against many other thieves 1v1 or a group of them and they are annoying even for me but I’m used to it and learned how to counter their mechanics and the problem with culling.
The only thing I have a problem is mass invisibility used by large groups these days funnily enough and it’s not down to thieves skills which have a player limit.
Overall they just need to fix culling, most thieves are squishy taking away too much stealth you are going to destroy a profession and if you think thieves can’t run in zerg you’re wrong, we can cause havoc more than you think.

The departure of ND, MERC, & VOTF from SoS

I’m almost 90% sure VoTF is heading to EU since that’s where the hardcore competitive guilds are (where HB & Red Guard are originally from)

VoTF has already gone against the guilds on JQ, BG, and SoR so if they transferred to any of the other T1 servers then they wouldn’t really be facing anything new. Desolation would be a good choice for them since Vizunah Square has some super tough guilds.

We do fine at Prime time and have enough queues as it is and they have faced Vizunah before with SFR. As I expected though the end of free transfers doesn’t stop guilds from hopping at least the ones without good reason, you may have read the drama in Tier 2 here in the EU.

They shouldn’t remove the AOE cap but increasing it even to 10-15 would be welcome, though of course culling is the biggest zerg friendly ‘mechanic’ in the game and ressing from downed state shouldn’t be quicker than stomping.

p.s. so the defenders don’t have any productive argument other than it’s large scale pvp and don’t understand that part of wvw is flawed but then the zerg is not the only nor vital cog to your wvw server machine.

One more thing about morning/night capping, it’s frustrating to see almost everything reset that you or others have spent time and money on but limiting the population wouldn’t be a right move, it would be better to make off peak capping less effective like increasing the point tick interval at certain hours until the afternoon perhaps.

The Large scale pvp part of wvw I find there’s things not quite right with it, of course the bigger army won’t always win you need communication and coordination but the rest is alot of culling abuse, aoe/skill spam and sometimes skill lag. Does anet intend this part of wvw to look like and play like a cluster-kitten?
One more thing there’s a certain pressure to roll a profession to be one of the ‘cool kids’ just be whatever you are most skilled and comfortable with, almost everybody can be useful to their server in wvw.

Probably in this order:
The Community
Objectives in order to gain points and the defensive/upgrading/sieging aspect.
The Challenge
Pvp but not so much the large scale messy ones, I solo roam atm.

The coming months are crucial for wvw to keep me interested though, it needs many fixes and improvements soon.

Rating Reset needed!

Tier 2 in the EU seems the place to be and Tier 1 doesn’t seem as it’s hyped to be, yet we are with the same stagnant match-ups almost going on for a month.

Honestly, we should have had that ratings reset, but they should have set it to one-day matches for a week so that the servers could tumble through the rankings MUCH faster for said week while the servers find their newest partners.

We really need a compression of the ratings. A reset would accomplish that.

This probably would have been best instead of a week long imbalanced matchup.
Maybe the math isn’t quite as right as anet thinks, just like the attention they give to wvw apart from cancelling the reset during the week where many servers tanked..

Yea we are outmanned in 2 borderlands tonight and were also in the late afternoon, last night wasn’t quite the same organized start as last.
I think many of us are worn out me including me, I mean no offense to the other servers but it’s the same matchup 3 weeks in a row and also that big WvW update got delayed.

I mainly play on EB but I’ve heard of Borderlands having similar problems, it’s bad enough the game can’t load multiple character models where I’ve seen suggestions it could be a server side problem.

WvW for me is still fun especially playing alongside a community I’ve got to know for months but it does get repetitive and the flaws are still there all these months it’s easy to get burnt out.

All too often I’ve seen commanders who have managed to get a 100g who have little tactical knowledge like everyone else and the outmanned buff also is still a joke all these months, so next month all we get is a progression system and all that is anet’s vision for wvw?
They should at least up the AOE limit at the very least but not make it unlimited, like siege has a higher.
Large scale battles are just a mess for a game this generation especially with the culling, I’ve noticed people have such a love/hate relationship with zerg vs zerg (vs Zerg) battles. I’ve also noticed these days you are expected to be a Guardian, Mesmer or Warrior in a zerg and the actual strategy and individual skill to the battles is fairly minimal compared to moving the zerg and other smaller scale tasks but there’s isn’t enough of that and or enough reward just whole lot of pve events especially on Eternal BG.

Of course part of the fun is the tactics going zerg vs zerg or just going up against a zerg but when it comes to the fight we are like fighting blindfolded hitting a pinata mashing AOE buttons, it’s not that enjoyable when you can’t even see them. Everyone abuses mass Invisibility now aswell no matter what culling changes are made.
Add to the fact we have AOE limits and we are due a AOE nerf even though I agree that some AOE is overpowered.
Also the lag on Eternal BG and the times it crashes what is going on?
I still plan to play wvw but less than usual as the flaws stand out, repetition kicks in and the lack of incentives grow with the lack of updates and fixes.

Completely disagree with your post. The fun of WvW is in having a lot of people on the map. I hate running from one side of the map to the other without seeing anyone.

You mention having coverage on all 4 maps… Instead of reducing the player cap, they should add outmanned buffs. Right now it is xp/karma/etc. Instead, give the outnumbered players power/prec/vit/toughness buffs. The amount of the buff would be based on how outnumbered they are.

Too true I play WvW for the large scale pvp but the challenge foremost against equal big amount of players even with all the culling issues.
I don’t understand the outmanned buff, it’s a big target each players back and on the towers, what is it supposed to be? To attract pve’ers to get to play even outmanned?

Got to agree with this I’m losing my enthusiasm these days, everyday I see people complaining when they lose a ‘battle’ especially against a big group that also use mass stealth, not just because of the recent culling update.
I end up having to mash every button especially tab but the only problem is I end up targeting their pets instead, not too different to whack-a-mole perhaps. :p

I don’t find it any worse but it’s bad enough either way that I just avoid rushing in most of the time and battles in Stonemist especially becomes a complete clusterf.
