The game really isn’t at present setup that way.
Looking at the Personal Story it’s clear that although we’re in the thick of the action we’re not really involved in driving the action (well with some exception in early levels). It’s possible for ANet to put our characters at the center of everything, but to do so will require a change in how they’ve been structuring and conveying the story up until now.
I’d imagine that firstly they’d need to give our NPCs a voice, some meaningful dialog options and show consequences to our actions and our choices (something far easier to do in a single player RPG).
However revolving the story around us the players (with all our different races) is technically a lot more difficult then simply having us follow the biconics or iconics around and watching them interact with each other and the world while we just quickly look on.
i remember how i spent hours making builds on gw1
Why do people like this? My brain can’t comprehend.
- Stop grinding events (we are people not hamsters who walk in the same wheel for hours, this also gives a image of lazyness in the content production);
Grinding is something players do. Players want to grind, I don’t know why I’m putting this in the same bucket as spending hours playing around with builds (see above). But here’s the thing, any mechanic that’s implemented people will attempt to gain the maximum benefit. Remember when ANet implemented Champ bags? Next thing we have players doing Champ trains. Did ANet want Champ trains? No. But players saw that grinding bags was profitable. Even if ANet took out the champ bags players would just find something else to grind.
- Bosses with lower HP but harder to kill ( i’m not saying all bosses should be like Tequatl, but hitting the boss for loads of times doesnt make it harder, instead it kills the player with boredom xD);
Ok I’ll agree with this one. Having players auto-attacking a world boss, feel somehow wrong.
- Bring the GW armors and weapon designers back to gw2, because 70% of the skins are a bit bad looking in general, sorry to say
;
Never played GW, but I’m all for more armour design variety.
I would swear they want us to grind and have us nothing to show for our hard work and effort. Why so unrewarded in this game.
Unrewarding except for the MF you mean, right? Cause MF seems to be a reward in and of itself.
Back in GW1 I used to spent hours designing and testing builds to see what works and what doesn’t. This is one aspect of GW that I really miss.
Yeah… I don’t think I’d find that all too fun.
Oh I wasn’t asking to use 15 weapon skills at the same time. I was asking for 15 weapons skill to choose from, and we pick 5 to use.
I guess that’s not too bad, or at least I could get use to it eventually (still I’d rather say ANet needs to balance the current abilities and add more weapon variety than add more abilities to current weapons). I’d agree that perhaps we could increase the number of utility ability, perhaps adding 1 or 2 more.
They could outsource the port-to-console, however I think this is a bit of a long term investment, since (I haven’t read anything about PS4 architecture, but it comes off as downscaled PC, so this might not be an issue…) you’d probably still need to technically adapt the content patches for the console so they’d probably need a console team. I guess they could make a couple of arrangements with SOE, they have some experience in the console MMO area.
Like Dawdler said, technically yes. But ANet has a habit of implement repeating events so it will probably be on a timer (for good reason since an event like that would probably take a lot of time and effort to implement and who likes one time events). Not to mention the overflow and afk deaths which will probably see these forums aflame with complain last seen with the LA karka event.
The surname probably works like: the Roman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognomen and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnomen.
The big issue with Zhaitan is that you’re always seeing him from a distance, so frame of reference is off.
Why not?!
Considering the method of aquiring most of the luck essence, maybe “The Great Destroyer”?
The Great Un-Maker?
The Great Salvager?
…
Yeah I’m out of ideas, but ANet could do something fun with it I’m sure.
First-person would be stellar for taking screenshots of scenery/environment art.
Very much this. As much as I like my big old charr it does get a bit annoying when he’s constantly photo-bombing.
Sucks that we have to PvP to get 100% for crying out loud you could at least switch the colors every week..
Technically WvW, and not really.
It forces players into WvW, long enough for them to get a feel for it and decide if they like it or not. Although perhaps a bit too long for those that don’t like it. I didn’t really mind, since WvW isn’t too bad for me at least.
The big issue is that if they raise the level cap they’ll also most likely introduce new abilities and new gear. I don’t think anyone cares so much about the level cap so much as the knock on effect it will have in terms of ‘out dating’ your gear, and abilities and what not. For example people have spent a long time grinding themselves ascended year, if ANet were to increase the level cap then they’d invalidate all that effort leaving a lot of players very unhappy. Basically the horrors of the gear treadmill goes hand in hand with level cap.
But there is another option. ANet changes how gear works, I don’t know something like making gear scalable, so if you have ascended gear for 80 it’s just as useful for level 90. Of course then one might ask why increase the level cap at all.
how do you mean the map got bigger?
It looks exactly the same as it has always lookedoh and never
My thoughts as well… if true this would be far more interesting topic to discuss then level caps.
Hell 80 is too high as it is… Im all for knocking it back down to 20
Or at least a conceptually nicer number. Say 50, 50 seems like a nice number, 60 seems so… wrong. Maybe 40 but I’m not really feeling it either. Definitely nothing like 46 or 59.
I guess 80 is just a number they plucked out of the air in anycase (or more correctly out of WoW).
Weren’t the old destroyers named by the dwarfs ? I believe they just like being dramatic^^ Seriously, “Destroyer of Life”? Who talks like that?
Apparently a race of people willing to destroy all individuality and sacrifice the future of their people in order to be better at hitting lava monster.
However, the 350 employee thing is a little deceptive.
I don’t think they’re all game developers. I’d wager a number of them work in finance, HR, etc… So, if the behind the scenes work is happening, I don’t know if it will be as fast as we think.
Jip, if all of them were actively developing the game (although there’s a lot of semantics around what game developer means) then ala mythic man month, they’d never get anything done.
Idk just some speculation. Don’t forget the team that does LS is very small compared to the rest of ANet. They have a huge team behind the scenes working on larger content.
The thing however is we don’t know.
We have a general idea of how big the company is, but we don’t know how many of them are support staff, how many are core business (i.e. actively working on the game) etc. Would be nice if ANet would give us a break down or at least a overview of how large the various teams are or what teams there are. The closest we have is this: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-outlines-guild-wars-2-live-game-development/ which is more than a year old so I’m not sure how reliable it is.
So it’s possible that the Living World team it’s small (and then depending on the overall development team could mean that they’re secretly working on more content), it’s possible that the team is large (and that there’s no one working on secret content). But lacking any more recent information it’s difficult to call.
-sigh-
Reading this thread REALLY makes me hope that the alliances aren’t just gonna be dumped and return to normal as if nothing ever happened as soon as Scarlet goes down.
Same here. Would be nice to have a contingent of Molten Charr rejoin the flame legion, or some Molten Dredge decide that they want to run the show now. Since the pirates have always been an ecliptic lot I don’t see why the Aetherblades can’t continue as well, after all Aetherblades are just pirates with fancy Inquest weapons and although you’ve destroyed a number of them (wait how many of their airships have we destroyed?) they should still be sufficiently armed to continue pirating the skies. Krate and Nightmare court however… not sure, but I would like to see the Hybrid return.
At the very least what ANet could do is create a few more permanent dynamic events (something I’ve been going on about for a while now) in the world (if they don’t feel like giving us a proper epilogue), show us what these factions are doing after Scarlets inevitable fall.
The Toxic Alliance and Molten Alliance are of groups that never met each other… how do you think the krait ideologies (enslave everyone under the rule of their Prophets) and the Flame Legion ideologies (enslave everyone under the rule of their gods) would react when met?
This was what I was hoping the Living World would be, seeing how factions interact, grow, make war, make friendship etc.
Compare and contrast that with how Scarlet’s alliances are formed. We never see any of Scarlet’s diplomatic skills, we rarely see the characterisation of these alliances recognise how mismatched they are (I think the prison scene post Flame and Frost was one of the only notable examples), hell the alliances barely have any personality or individual goals at all. Before the Living Story these factions had distinct histories, personalities and motivations. Very little of that is recognised in the story and it always seems to be trumped by Scarlet’s objectives. I feel like having these factions be part of Scarlet’s alliances and the way they were handled, it’s a betrayal of their identities and the world that was built prior to Scarlet’s creation.
Story telling was probably one of the weaker aspects of Living Story Season 1, sure it’s nice that they tell us out of game why these factions got together but it would have been significantly better to see them get together in game. Maybe we in the build up to say Flame and Frost we see the Flame Legion and Dredge have secret meetings, or better yet we as players (thanks to how awesome we are at killing dredge and flame legion) push them into a corner forcing them to create an alliance.
However on the other hand I do see ANet putting a bit more effort into their story, so many be Season 2…
Its good news and I am happy GW2 continues to do well.
Shows that regular updates (ie…Living Story works well with micro transaction ie…shop model)
Um No it doesn’t. It shows that people want something similar to GW2 or they want what was originally promised but it only takes another game to change all that. People wanted an upgrade from past games but GW2 has many flaws that need to be fixed in order to solidify and long term loyalty.
Um… you might need to elaborate a bit more on how you came to those conclusions based on the presented facts… a lot of it seems rather… personal opinion based.
Can someone explain me why they like Lineage 1 more than 2?
Sunk Cost Fallacy?!
The question is does that change or will sales keep going down. I personally think sales will continue to soften for a while if Anet continues to ignore many of GW2 major issues.
I think you’re ignoring the impact of market saturation and the hype cycle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hype_cycle).
And yes, cash shop sales figures has zero correlation with player numbers, time spent in-game. Cash shop sales might be booming, but my server population certainly isn’t …
Unless you have any figures on player population we can’t draw any correlations or make any assumptions, since all such assumptions would be heavily based on personal experience.
Full on pay to win huh? You aint played a real pay to win game I guess.
Few, few people that go around labelling things P2W have…
^
Typical.Anet loses money, people will say the game is dying
Anet makes money, people will point out it’s short-term and the game is going to die anywayIt’s a lose-lose on these forums.
Well most forum go-ers… well they’re not always… well some of them aren’t even playing the game, and some only come to the forums to complain. I guess I’m no real exception, I’m taking a short break from GW2 myself (at least until the 18th, kinda looking forward to the new patch). It’s just something you need to keep in mind when reading most of these forum posts.
People who walk have a clear advantage over people with cars because when you walk everywhere, you can find a quarter on the sidewalk while someone who drives will pass by all that money without even noticing…
That’s deep, seriously man opened my mind right up. I’m so plagiarising.
ANet still needs to implement proper combo fields. With combat being essentially a blinding techni-colour light show effectively utilising combo fields is difficult at best, well when doing so purposefully. I guess it doesn’t cripple the gameplay, but it does feel like the system could have been better implemented.
Of course better implementation might lead to combos becoming a more critical part of combat, which might lead to more technically challenging combat.
Anet’s Pre release hype was “no more grind”, basically realizing the “grind” issues and how disenchanted players of GW were with it. Now we have the Ascended Armor / FOTM “Grind”. What the heck Anet? Was pre release hype re: No grind just a con job? Would seem a bit hypocritical to me. This games direction is going to vertical in my opinion. I think Anet is shooting itself in the foot!
Players wanted grind, ANet gave them grind. Also one could make the argument you don’t need ascended gear… unless you like running high level fractals in which case you’re pretty much already into grinding.
+1, currently the only way to re-experience a personal story would be to create an (sorta) identical alt, kinda inconvenient. Although how to correctly implement it would be an interesting challenge. Obviously having you’re map filled with green story points would be a bad way of implementing it.
We had planned to take the little Sylvaris to Lion’s Arch for a week to visit during their break from school from the 17th until the 21st. Tickets were very expensive, as we are flying in from the Cursed Shores, and we are getting routed through Iron Marches since no direct flights were available.
My take away from that. You live in a very bad neighbourhood and instead of taking expensive vacations to Lion’s Arch maybe you should move out of Cursed Shores (there’s zombies there, no place to raise little Sylvaris) and get a nice little cottage in the grove, or queensdale.
Well in regards to the voices: A) get the actors in to record a years worth of Living Story dialog (which compared to the last year worth of content probably wouldn’t be all that much) B) get other actors. I guess option B would cause a bit of grumbling, option A) would require ANet to create content a year ahead of time and that’s simply impracticable and hap-hazardous.
But hey I don’t really have much issue with the biconics, it’s a big world and a lot of stuff can happen and I’m sure destiny’s edge is busy.
On another note I’ll bet that Rox does something to impress Rytlock enough that he offers her a place in his warband only for her to turn in down saying something like ‘Turns out I had my own warband all along’ while looking at Braham, Jory, Kasmeer, Taimi and most likey Canach. Very much like the wizard of oz and tin mans heart or the scarecrows brain. Or that someone has to look out for the aformentioned characters. Rytlock will understand and say that it is a standing offer.
On the one hand: awe how heart warming. On the other hand: kinda predictable and cliché. I’m not sure how to feel about it.
Aetherblade ships are all made to the same specifications, so there’s nothing distinguishing one from another, and therefor no sense in naming them.
The same could be said for boats, planes and cars. I’m sure a Aetherblade crew serving on an airship for long enough would probably give the ship a nickname at least. From a purely pragmatic stance large scale operations involving multiple air ships would be horribly complicated (airship fifth from the right, go to Point A, airship with the two charrs on deck go to Point C).
At present it seems more like Mesmers and probably other professions don’t have any official organisation, or at least exclusive organisation. The Order of Whispers probably had a large percentage of Thiefs by anyone can join, the Vigil probably Warriors but again anyone can join.
It would be nice if we had profession-based organisations in game, would be nice for lore given opportunity to flesh out how some professions are viewed by society and how they view society and mechanically it could introduce profession specific armour, weapons, quests etc.
Haha they deleted the leaked comment, they are half brother and sister.
Given the lack of family cohesion in Charr society I’m sure it’s not uncommon for a Charr to have multiple mates and thus multiple kittens (and I mean kittens as in baby cats not as in filtered swear word :P). We know that parent-child relationships have some importance (as seen in the Charr personal story) even though parents usually don’t raise their own children (except probably being the Charr in Lions Arch but they’re probably not officially part of the legions), but I don’t think we’ve really explored what the Charr’s view on sibling relationships are or what importance or meaning they place on such relationships. It might be possible that sibling relationships have little meaning or value to Charr and thus Rox and Rytlock not opening acknowledging such a relationship would be perfectly normal in Charr society.
This happened in WoW too and nobody give a skritt about it. Even after you did quests and the world phased out you were still before the grand finale even if you already killed the Lich King numerous times. Don’t whine where there isn’t a problem.
If you care about good story, read a book. Games are for fun.
Oh some people did, but it only really affected the RP-crowd.
And time line between living world and my story has always been iffy. mostly because anet doesn’t want to discriminate against new gamers. Which are why most living stories are isolated to only a single map.
Well the real question is: when does what occur. Most seem to assume that Living Word takes place after Personal Story, but I don’t remember a official dev confirmation so it makes takes place parallel to it, which does remove some of the issues OP mentioned.
But we ARE facing multiple Shatterer.
In lore the Shatterer is not a specific dragon, it is a rank. And thus everytime we face the Shatterer we are facing a new dragon.
Same thing with Claw, but I’m not sure if there are multiple Tequatls. But apparently you never kill it, which is supported by it’s defeat animation. Where Shatterer explodes Teq jumps back into the ocean.
So yeah, Mist is cannon, it does exist, the Mist war is going on. There is some lore but ANet never really went about giving us a complex explanation of the why’s and hows. Narrative wise, it would be interesting to have a few story threads actually about the Mist wars, presently the Mist wars has little to no impact on Tyria as a whole, at least a couple of NPCs talking about the threat that the Mist wars poses, or a couple of dynamic events where Mist warriors pour out of a portal and we need to beat them back would be nice.
Because members of Destiny’s Edge are so entwined with your Personal Story as well as the over-arching story with Zhaitan, and because the Living World plot lines are taking place at the same time all those other story threads, we couldn’t have the members of Destiny’s Edge splitting themselves between these other areas and what was going on with Living World.
Wait is it me or are you saying Living Story is taking place at the same time as the personal story? That’s interesting, it seemed like the primary assumption was that the Living Word was taking place after the Personal Story.
Not enough will happen to LA to contradict the Personal Story instances which take place inside of it. Every order story is rooted in Lion’s Arch.
Unless ANet finally decides to sacrifice continuity for awesomeness. One of the issues with MMOs, in terms of story telling is that different people might be at different points. Phasing is a way to accommodate this, displaying different worlds depending on your progress. However ANet has already stated they din’t like the idea of phasing, so in essence, nothing can be world changing or it would ruin the Living Story – Personal Story continuity.
…
As a Voltron fan, I can’t bring myself to downvote that idea. XD
And to be pedantic you can’t downvote. But yeah that would be 100% rule of cool.
Jennah is implied to be trying to avoid direct contact with Logan. Why? Because she’s not Jennah of course! She’s the Nemesis in disguise! He/she would have to avoid Logan if he/she is to pull off his/her scheme perfectly… I also think Kasmeer might also be a candidate for one of the Nemesis’s disguises…
Interesting. During the investigation it was noted that the watchwork knights had a striking similarity to the steam creatures… Scarlet did try and take a shot and Jennah (Fake-Jennah? Fennah? Fannah?).
It will get damaged and some landmarks might get blown up, but ultimately the players will save it from destruction and finally kick Scarlet’s kitten .
Kinda boring but most likely.
Wait a second, anyone think it will be Canach that figures out how to stop the toxin?
He is an alchemist so very likely.
Aside from the potential problems coming up with messing up LA, couldn’t Anet just tack on Zhaitan’s 2nd coming as additional PS? Rework some of the LS into PS missions and you’d get an extended PS that people could follow up with.
I like this idea very much. In corporate the Living Story into the Personal Story, giving us the much needed permanency that we (and by we I mean like me and a handful of other people) always wanted and giving new players the story that they’ve missed up until now. Further fully opening the possibility of Zhaitan 2.0, or some other elder dragon.
Yeah I’m constantly afraid they’ll pull the ‘no she was really good all along’ card. That’s just a twist for the sake of a twist, and at times can require plain retcon.
I mean i feel like you’re grasping at straws with this… but it does sorta fit… then again most things like this can fit if you look at it hard enough.
It’s called the texas sharpshooter fallacy.
http://youarenotsosmart.com/2010/09/11/the-texas-sharpshooter-fallacy/
Every now and then I attack a yellow mob, but it’s not that big of a problem. But I’ve never had issues with attacking white mobs. But if there are issues with auto targeting yellow over red, then I guess it could use some tweaking (although not something I seem to recall).
Mmm I guess I can’t really add much to this conversation since, I guess there are some issues, but nothing that really troubles me.
So much story slipping right past us. ANet really needs to make us more aware of these sort of things.
I was thinking recently about how Scarlet plans to attack Lion’s Arch, and it hit me. Scarlet is gonna have involvement in the Edge of the Mists map in the coming update. The edge of me mists has at least some connection to WvW which connects directly to Lion’s Arch. What if Scarlet’s plan is to go through the WvW gates and attack Fort Marriner from the inside?
Sorry if this possibility has already been brought up. I haven’t been reading the forums as thoroughly as I usually do :P
this actually makes sense!
Yeah, but I think it would be far more visually interesting to have molten portal open all across LA, have a fleet of Aetherblade ships come from the sky and Toxic Krait attacking from the see while spreading toxic spores around (I guess the Toxic Nightmare Court could attack the gates or something).
Not to mention Scarlets worse alliance of all, the quaggan-centaur-alliance charging through LA.
the Pale Tree and the Thorn Vine, entwined (in the Short Story: What Scarlet Saw, the vine is said to cling to the Pale Tree “like a desperate lover”).
Eh. Still a theory, but if they somehow turns out to be true, I can imagine the forum thread name already….
ANOTHER lesbian relationship!?
Forgive my ignorance of plant sex, but don’t thorns come off as being… manly. Seems perfectly straight to me.
no. I finished Candy Crush without spending ANY money on any of the boosters, I can and WILL play Guild Wars the same way. I’ll get my Legendary that way too. Eventually.
Well, you understand that from a economical side of view, youre not exactly a desired player. You only spend server bandwidth.
Now now, the majority will always be non-paying, but they still serve an important role in filling wvw, pvp and pve with farm bodies. Now if paying players were in the minority (and as such they’re loss would not impact the game) then they would be undesirable.
Gw2 is a good enough game and i do have fun, but it’s not good enough to be sub based,
if you were forced to pay a sub i think a lot would rather pay blizzard and play wow.
Uh… um… no, I wouldn’t really pay subscription to either. In fact after 2-3 years of WoW I honestly don’t want to pay subscription to any game anymore.
Don’t leash the mobs too far. They get bored with you and go home. Also, if you’re in an area that is impossible for the mob to counter-attack it’s going to blow you off. Beyond that, I’ve never had issues in this regards.
This. I’ve never seen a mob just randomly heal in the middle of a fight (except for self healing of course). OP is probably doing something wrong and is now blaming the game.
As many combos as possible, but to start I’d say my necro needs a greatsword and then perhaps some pistols.
Dungeons are a good way to get gold, per day per path just for completing you can make about 1 gold. So run a couple of paths a day, along with selling trash you should be able to make a fair amount of gold.
Agreed. While there are certainly some constraints and challenges in doing heavy “party RP” systems in our game, we’re looking at ways to evolve our tech and also our writing of character development such that you get to know these NPCs better and that your choices have a noticeable effect. We’re not where I’d like to be just yet, but we’re planning to try some new things over time.
I must say I’m rather biased here, I’m a decent player but not hardcore-elite, and I’ve always placed far more value in the experience of player (leaning more to the story then the mechanics). Minor issues mechanically is fine by me as long as there is a good story to keep me entertained and engaged. However I guess there’s a lot of other people that would prefer you rather just fix bugs and balance issues all day (the sort of things I never notice).
So group RP would be nice (for me), having my personality (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personality) impact more than a couple of dialog options etc. Maybe some of the iconics react negatively to you if you’re a Barbaric, maybe if you walk down the street some NPC mentioned that Charming ranger (your PC).
Maybe we can even have some repeatable events-chains, go hunting with Braham, help Rox with training etc. which would be a good opportunity to reveal less important but character building information (i.e. we go pig hunting with Braham and he reveals to us where his love of bacon came from. Trahaerne can tell us why he constantly speaks in a creepy monotone etc.).
Lesbian romance got you down?
Know what we need more of?
Was slightly confused, opened the attachment, lol! +1
Although I highly doubt ANet would go so far… Although technically aren’t all sylvari relatives? They’ve got the same mother, so yeah they’re all siblings. So we’ve already got a lot of that going on it seems.
Rox is the Black Citadel’s envoy tasked with dealing with the threat, Braham is her norn buddy that tags along because a) he wants revenge and b) he’s a norn, it’s an adventure, of course he’ll tag along.
C) after watching http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Origins_of_Madness:_A_Moment's_Peace particularly the following dialogue options from Braham to Rox:
I mean, you’ve got me
You’re already special. At least, to me
Interprit that as you will…
I can’t go into details but I will say that it’s on the list of things we’re looking to address. The current issue is more of a tech one and less of a “we don’t want the player to talk” decision.
Aww I love technical details… but that’s ok I’m sure you have all sorts of NDA going on just as long as it’s something you’re looking at.
I would personally prefer not to have my characters speak because then I can imagine my own voice for them.
Or… ANet can give us meaningful dialog options! Ok yeah the game isn’t really built that way but it would be nice.
Why, in a game focused on vanity progression, are 95% of the skins so ugly?
The best question, which remains unanswered a year and half later.
Not necessarily ugly, but definitely lacking in some variety. Also some armour proportions could be tweaked.

It’s funny. I’m on a Tier 9 or whatever is lowest server, and we have overflows quite often. I can’t imagine people are guesting to the lowest tier servers, so then that must mean even without guests there are overflows. Why always blame the overflows on guests? Is it not possible that servers have enough players to create overflows all by themselves?
Guesting gives people another person to hate on, it’s more enjoyable of those dirty, poor guest-ers are screwing up my gaming then if the cold, emotionless machine somewhere in the cloud is.
Also there’s been a lot of hating toward ANet as well, but that’s for much of the same reason.
Luckily I never got into mini collection, drops rates on some, unavailability of others…
I feel silently excluded
Although it’s more because I see 50+ page thread filled with walls of text. The summary idea is nice but it can be difficult to differentiate a ‘summary thus far’ with just normal discussion (make it visually distinct and providing a standard formatting would be great). Still 50+ pages even with summaries feels to me like to daunting of a task to tackle, ideally I’d want to give new and constructive feedback, and that can be difficult to know if what I’m suggestion has already been suggested.
One idea (although less qualitative) is to include a poll / questionnaire system. You can rapidly get feedback (although ideally you’d keep the questions to a minimum which increases accessibility but might decrees quality of feedback). One idea would be to only have these polls after a CDI has occurred, the main ideas discussed can be put into the poll and by doing so you’d ideally be able to get the larger community’s opinion regarding these topics (thus those who felt excluded in the CDI conversations would atleast be able to have some say, if not in the topics then in how they rate those topics). Bonus points if you could have this poll in-game thus potentially reaching the entire players base and not simple those that come to the forum.
Agree with OP, GW2 could use a bit of polish is some areas but that doesn’t detract from the fact that its a good game.
Dynamic events, which make up the vast majority of content, are just plain tedious. All you do in wander around looking for them or run in circles completing the same events over and over while watching timers to see when an event you just completed might pop up again. And this isn’t even starting to touch on the negative impact zergs have on content.
I think the answer to that is simple, more dynamic events. The tedious part comes in when there are no dynamic events or you’ve had to do the same event for the 10th time (of course the number of additional dynamic events to achieve this… well it’s a lot). Alternatively map wide alerts to dynamic events might help, currently you only get notified of the dynamic event if you’re in the same area, which makes it difficult to find new events and also increases the likelihood of doing the same event over and over since you don’t know where other events are.
If they want to get people into the open world then they also need to redesign dynamic events in addition to better incentives.
Most players respond to loot as an incentive, that would simply support farming. More fun would be the ideal incentive.
Dynamic events need to give the players a better sense of direction, they need to have longer event chains (no more complete 1-2 objectives then its all over with),
Agreed. A good example is in Orr, specifically Malchor’s Leap (although it is rather limited) where you have event to escort pack troops across the map, in doing so you encounter a number of other event. However since it is only a single event and since the map is rather large having numerous such escorts would be better.
and something needs to be done to stop zergs which ruin any sort of challenge and turn the content into spamming your auto-attack, trying to tag enemies as fast as possible.
Support the zerg don’t stop it. Include better scaling mechanics, the bigger the zerg the stronger the mob, add new mechanics that force players to dodge (that alone should wipe out 3/4 of the zerg) or to be aware of their posistion.
2. Make the hearts ‘refresh’ every month, doing a heart event will give it a green’heart’ symbol, and the first time doing a heart will count for map completion. At the end of each month though, all ‘inner’ hearts will be reset. The ‘complete X heart events’ can then be added to the monthly completion list, and/or can cycle with other monthly achievements (f/e the events one).
Resetting hearts is the least that ANet can do. However there’s a lot more potential. I’ve previously heard suggestions for heart chain i.e. a heart has multiple levels / mission. This allows for some variety, introduction of new mechanics etc. This can in turn be tied into other mechanics such as reputation.
I do not like the idea of my Hearts resetting because I would like not to have to play under time pressure to 100% the world.
So all you do is reset the hearts but not your heart completion progress.
If people guest they have the same rights as everybody else on the server.
That is how it is and that is how it should be.
And I do find it rather amusing that you want Anet to take initiative in what is clearly a player-related issue.
I like to think about it this way, in other MMOs you’d be sitting in a queue and not overflow. So which is better, playing but failing or not playing at all.
We haven’t had one of those nice stat updates in a while, would be nice if ANet could pull one up again (or do so more frequently). Even include which servers has the most Asura.
