I remember you saying last night that Magnus had an eyepatch over his right eye in the novel so if he lost his left one now, that would mean he lost all of his eyesight.
Or he could just have had 2 perfectly good eyes…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyepatch#Use_of_Eyepatch_for_Dark_Adaptation
Mmmm well by their nature they’re already corrupted (or else they’d be called ex-dragon minions), however we’ve seen no evidence of them being twice corrupted, so a theory is that once they’re corrupted by one ED then other EDs can’t corrupt them.
Yes we have seen such creatures. Three of them, each corrupted by at least 4 Elder Dragons’ energies – Kralkatorrik, Zhaitan, Primordus, and Jormag. The last linked, by five – the fifth being Mordremoth.
Well then, no non-asuran-experimental multiple corruption :P
Is there a chance you guys would ever consider adding an alternate voice option for player characters?
On another note, how much unique audio do our characters have? In terms of hours I mean. In essence I’m asking to get a general feel of how much time and effort would have to go into adding an entire new voice to a character.
As long as A) it doesn’t take too much development time B) it’s not mandatory (no special materials or loot), I’m fine with it. I’ll probably never do it but if others will why not.
Keep in mind that Magnus is an elected official, so unless there’s some sort of petition signed by a fairly large number of people, it’s unlikely that Magnus will be replaced any time soon.
Well I hope he likes being Magnus of a flaming smouldering heap, I don’t think a lot of the survivors are going to return to Lion’s Arch, the city is literally constantly under attack and under the protection of a rather incompetent lot.
You know, we/they could totally make an event plot out of this. Except instead of us as the adventurers, I’d invent a group to fill a role like the Consortium did: a party of show-off adventurers, maybe a lame imitation of Destiny’s Edge, who think they’re great and constantly step in to save Lion’s Arch from problem great and small. Except they start causing more trouble than they solve, and the Lionguard finds that actually leaving the fate of the city in the hands of random adventurers isn’t always a good idea…
Don’t worry citizen, we’re here to help you with your rat problem!
Flame Throwers ready?
Destiny’s Child away!
I’ve got a solution to this problem, replace the Lionguard with the Seraph. Just let Queen Jenna reclaim the city from its incompetence now its reason to exist independently is gone.
That could be interesting. Players can decide if they’re willing to stand with LA, freedom and what not, or with Jenna, the benign dictator. We need a bit of political intrigue in GW2 I think.
The sad thing is it would have made Scarlet look genuinely scary if Lion’s Arch had battened down the hatches, manned the walls in double shifts, and made every possible preparation… and her forces walked over them to the exact same degree we see now.
Actually yes this would have been fun. The first event would have been “Defend Lion’s Arch”, then we would have had “Evacuate Lion’s Arch”. Essentially we’d lose the first event, be doing damage control (like we’re doing now) and then we’d rise up, come back and reclaim Lions Arch with a possible Seraph army, and political intrigue in tow. Maybe a Charr army… now that would be interesting, a Charr army in Kryta… officially helping LA, but so very close to Divinity’s Reach… Actually if we assume Rox is there as a scout it makes sense.
- Amount of Enemies, very simple. so more players r there, so more enemies do spawn lettign them become reinforcements
With AOE, this really doesn’t work. The more players you have the more combined mass damage they can do the quicker the mobs die out. Increasing mobs is only useful if you combine that with an increase in their individual survivability.
- Enemy AI could become better, using more different skills, so more players are there, dodging/blocking more oftenly and usign more oftenly CC skills and AoEs by themself
A good suggestion but not so easy to implement or balance. I’m thinking about the Molten Alliance events, AOE everywhere…
- Instead of always skaling up their Health and Power, they could simple instead of Vitality scale up Toughness so that enemies takes lesser damage
It comes down to the same thing, enemies take longer to die.
- Enemies could receive individual Buff Effects, so more Players fight agaisnt them, like Defiant, Wrath and what not al else to add to them unique effects that make the scaling up also by themself visual, that if a Buff of that sort plops up, then you know that the enemy got upscaled and it can be simply blended over by the enemy using a skill, that gives to it that unique buff
This is a good option. It allows for player awareness of scaling. It might lead to players attempting to micro-manage scaling though. For example someone might say “Too many people at Boss X, 30 of you please go stand on the other side of the map twiddling your thumbs while me and my 5 friends do all the killing.”
- Enemies could finish off downed players also at higher difficulty scaling, why should this stay a player only thing ???
They practically already do this, they just take the long way around by hitting you a lot. Still again something that might be useful.
- Anet could increase the difficulty by lettign enemies have decreased cooldown times for their skilsl at higher scales
So essentially they get to do more attack, thus doing more damage. Useful only if the mob has skills other than pure damage, otherwise you’re creating a more complicated means of simply increasing damage.
So there is more than enough different options, it must not be always only the 0815-way with more Health and more Strenght, but its the most easiert and very lame and lazy kind of way, that sadly gets always used as it seems :/
Well it’s lazy, but also very easy. Still it’s not perfect.
Vets are a bother at level thanks to their big health bar. And at 4 levels above they easily turn into walking walls against anything but a full zerker GS warrior or guardian playing buzz-saw. And the six help you if they come en mass…
Personally it’s the 1 shot kills that bother me. Out of no-where I’ve gone from full-health to laying on my back.
I think something should be done about it.
oh yes,
L2P.
That’s such a bad answer. At least support the L2P with a argument or explanation as to how the player is not playing correctly, ideally providing some advice or tips.
Well Orr is a nice place if you have a large number of players (although that could be said for most maps, but Orr was more designed specifically to be less solo friendly).
ANet could do a couple of Living Story events there, and that would (for a time) increase the number of players in Orr, but the issue of course is that Orr is high level content, and so far ANet has shown an interest in making Living Story content accessible (setting it in lower level areas, implementing upscaling etc.).
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to have a Lion’s Arch NPC as the face of the invasion? Or a Vigil/Priory/Order NPC? Instead we had the B team giving Lion’s Arch cute nicknames when they’ve had relatively little to do with the place up until now. When fighting for Lion’s Arch I would have liked to do so side by side with the people of Lion’s Arch – Kiel, Evon, the Captain’s Council, the Lionguard etc. These characters feel less important in the world when the B team is taking their place.
Yeah, true. Although I’m guessing ANet is reusing the biconics in order to build player involvement and interest. With each event we see the biconics, we learn a little more about them, slowly the dialogue seem to be changing from “hey there… you”, to “hey it’s you again!”, which is nice (although not be able to truly interact does diminish some of my involvement and interest in the characters. Think mass effect minus all that talking, as interesting as the characters might be, giving us players the ability to interact helps build that interest). So if they did create a new, more relevant set of characters for each event we’d constantly be seeing new faces, people we don’t know and by extension have no interest in.
As for Braham, he can be explained a bit easier than the other biconics. Being a Norn he’s still trying to make his own legend, just actively looking for these sorts of events to make a name for himself. Rox is more difficult since, being a part of the Legions, unless she was ordered to she’s got very little reason to be there. In fact something as simple as her mentioning that Rytlock sent some Charr soldiers to aid in the evacuation would have given some context, but nope she just showed up.
I’m actually really glad I’m not the focus. In fact, I’d rather I barely knew the main characters and were just treated like a mercenary – because, quite frankly, that’s what we all are.
Actually in the middle of the LA event I got to thinking, “we’re not so much a bunch of mercenaries as much as a literally army”. But yeah I get what you’re saying. It’s a matter of story telling and game mechanics, and a lot of other stuff. Some people like being actively involved, other’s don’t mind watching.
^I am pretty sure ‘Survior’ does not, nor ever has, existed in the Wiki.
It may be a rather lame joke, but it is, nevertheless, true.
Yeah, but it sounds like such a cool title. Serv-Vi-Or.
I just started recently. How long would it take to catch up in terms of gear? Would I be at a great disadvantage by the time i hit 80?
Don’t rush to level 80. Take time and be absorbed by the world of Tyria.
Yeah, best advice, the moment most player hit max level they start going into old school MMO grind mindset. You know: “Where are the raids?”, “I have all the Legendary weapons, what do I do now?”.
Enjoy the journey, GW2 wasn’t really structured to have the same sort of end-game as your more conventional MMO. There’s no need to rush, because there’s no power creep, no gear treadmill that you need to jump on etc.
EDIT:
Yes. You are very much behind. Ascended gear is an enormously long grind. Ascended armor at the moment gives a small advantage over exotic, but Ascended weaponry can see boosts of 15% if you use stat combos that synergize well.
But wait, there’s more: by the time you’ve grinded to Ascended, the next step in vertical grind may already be upon us. Infusion slot stat grind, perhaps.
Also, save up your laurels. They are heavily time-gated so think twice before spending them.
Yeah…
These threads make me happy. +1 to you sir for bringing a bit of positivity around here.
I suppose so…
Still seems pretty weird considering there is not a single other building in Lions Arch that has gone untouched – disregarding the one underneath a protective force field.I’m pretty sure the Lion’s shadow Inn is untouched too. And Tokk’s mill.
And so the plot thickens… Slowly we’re starting to see how The Scarlet Alliance was able to so easily gain access to LA… with so much inside help!
Well if we think about it, when it comes to content scaling (to accommodate more people) there is only so many things you can scale up (health and damage being the two main ones). So the larger the zerg the more you need to look out.
This, similar ideas have been floating around for a while, in general these sorts of things can help add lore and flesh out the world of tyria so I’m all for it.

According to our marketing team, the e-mail went to a segment of players and was not intended for every player.
All the surveys have been distributed and if you did not receive such an e-mail in the last few days you were not in the current sampling and will not be receiving one this time around.
I wanted me some free gems… guess I’ll just have to buy them the old fashion way
I know it’s an effective way to role play your Order in the world and it might even make sense from a lore point of view, but as a person who chose Vigil on their “main” I really wish they’d stop putting really important lore information in Order specific dialogue. It really sucks to be missing out on this stuff and it makes me feel like I made the wrong choice.
I’m cool with it, just wish they didn’t do such a shallow implementation. At least it’s nice to know that our choice of order actually has some impact.
What if she wants to plant some kind of seed on that intersection of powerful leylines? Maybe the Tower of Nightmares was a prototype?
Ooooh a Nightmare Mother Tree. That would be awesome. Hybrids everywhere.
And it’s actually a nexus of leylines not just a mere intersection, as my friends have named it, “the super mega ultra leyline crossroads”
Crossroads.
Oh dear, now I have blues music running through my head. Crossroads tend to be…not happy places.
Not necessarily, all they tend to be is intersections between places, usually the physical and the spiritual, a noverlapping area of sorts. Some connections to Voodoo of course but my knowledge on the subject is limited to Supernatural-show.
And even then, dragon minions are not immune to draconic energies.
Mmmm well by their nature they’re already corrupted (or else they’d be called ex-dragon minions), however we’ve seen no evidence of them being twice corrupted, so a theory is that once they’re corrupted by one ED then other EDs can’t corrupt them.
I suggest such players should play Special Ops: The Line. It has a message for you.
Scars are manly? White phosphorous makes for wonderful ambiance? Dubai is not a nice vacation spot? An entire renegade military unit can somehow function, coordinate and take action with a dead commander and no apparent command structure? As in literally the dude was dead, who was given them orders... unless it was all a dream... was it a dream...?
Nah don’t worry I get what you mean :P Ah that game made me feel horrible about myself, great game.
Wow, looks interesting. I believe this to be the entrances to her Drill ship once we fight back. Don’t know about the spirals though..
This, we’re probably getting a dungeon or something similar set inside the drill.
Didn’t read your full first post but, on the second: Scarlet is, in fact, a Soundless. So she’s not connected to the Pale Tree or the Dream of Dreams.
The Soundless are technically still connected, they just actively block it out. The Pale Tree can still contact a Soundless if she wants, it’s just not as easy.
Oh that’s interesting. Any particular in game dialog to support this?
That doesn’t mean the asura aren’t generally smarter than the average population of other races. It just means that their level isn’t out of reach. We see that with the new magitech skill of the engineer.
People tend to place intelligence on a very linear spectrum. What’s far more common is a jungle of winding paths. A simple example would be a savant, who is particularly intelligent in one or a few related areas, but not necessarily what you’d call generally intelligent. It’s highly possible that the Asuran brain is simply more specialised to grasp magic and technomagic, but no more inclined than any other race to grasp conventional non-magical technology or simple problem solving. This is somewhat supported by the fact that the average Asuran is smart enough to create a big bomb, but not smart enough to know that bombs go boom. How many Asuran can’t see the obvious flaws in their inventions, usually leading to a group of adventurers needing to fix their problem for them.
MMO timelines… something that’s always been very difficult to do well, since in some games even going from one zone to the other essentially involves time travel. Although yes I have to say ANet could have done this better. Unless of course LA is going to magically go back to normal after a few weeks, in which case putting extra effort into sorting out the timeline would be a waste.
+1, the more ways I can customise my character the better, even if it’s only little things. However it does seem like the at present the game isn’t really set up to allow this. I’m basing this off of the ‘tattoo’ items which simply replaced your head piece, or the new zodiac armour. A lot of this meta-customisation is either armour or boon related. It would be nice if ANet could add another “layer” of cosmetic items to modify your appearance a bit more allowing for more permanency. Of course this in turn would add more complexity as one layer could clip into the other or something similar.
Hi I’ve been having the same issue (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Can-t-update-client-slow-stops/first#post3661418), there’s some links there with possible solutions. I’ve found leaving the download for a while and it picks up again, although don’t expect it to carry on for too long. With enough patients you might be able to complete the download although it’s pretty stop and go.
Being rather bored (not able to play and all) I’ve gone through a couple of pages (there’s over 400 so clearly I couldn’t go through all of them) and collected links to similar problems, hopefully giving it can give someone some insight.

Client doesn't update/connection errors

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
Me too, seems to be an error that’s been around for over a year.
Another thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Can-t-update-client-slow-stops/first#post3658324
Attaching screen of resmon (running Windows 7), hopefully of some use. Client downloaded 95KB and died. Opening and closing the client allows me to download a couple of files before the speed drops (varies, so I think something might go wrong when it completed downloading a file and attempts to download the next). Too laborious to do this for the 6782 remaining files…
I’ve gone into msconfig, turned off all start off items, turned off all no-microsoft system services, manually turned off firewall, security and windows defender. Restart no luck.
Tried running GW2.exe, GW2.exe -clientport 80, GW2.exe -image, also tried running all as Administrator. Still no luck.
Seems the problem isn’t in regards to the configuration of my machine. Alternatively that means the problem could be with my ISP or with ANet, my ISP does shape my connection during the day so that might be it. Still no real evidence for that.
Ran a couple of pings on the addresses found in resmon:

How do most of you complainers function in the world? Unexpected things do happen. The weather is not always going to be sunny. Other people aren’t always going to do exactly as you expect. Your new puppy is going to urinate on the rug. Learning to deal with disappointment is an important life skill.
Found this thread via google, so bump away. Having same problem. Could possibly be because everyone is downloading the patch so the servers are overloaded, but that’s just my assumption.
But if my assumption is wrong, has anyone managed to solve this problem?
Just for clarification by internet crash do you mean the entire internet connection? As in you can’t connect to the internet at all?
Forums make me sad sometimes. It’s only a short delay, hold the complaining until they delay something by a day, or week, or month.
The only issue is that you’d practically not have to play the game any more since you’ll be ale to buy everything with gold i.e. gems i.e. real money.
Join Dungeon Mentors! We’re very patient and take time to explain mechanics. You’ll come out knowing more than most pugs.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors/first
This (sort of I don’t actually know most of these guilds).
Joining a good guild can really turn things around.
I went back to WoW. Much less grind there and their cash shop is entirely optional. Unlike here.
Yeah one of those non-players who hang around the forums constantly reinforcing their decision to not play… Cash shop is optional btw not that I think it particularly matters to you, afterall you’re just here to troll.
Really it just drives home the point. “How do you really make an epic boss battle between something 500 meters long, and some humans/slightly larger races?”
Zhaitan would actually have been pretty easy since he’s not so much a single dragon but a bunch of dragons stuck together, so you could have fought him in the air, cutting away chunks of him (possible fighting them) until he was a more reasonable size to fight on the ground. Or more reasonably sized to fight on top of.
I personally think we’ll keep growing magical until we rival the magical strength and knowledge of the Elder Races…
…then we’ll destroy everything is a huge technomagical war of epic proportions.
So what you’re saying is, kill the Asura while there’s still time? I’m down with that, never trusted the little guys and their technomagic mumbo jumbo.
This feature is being worked on “behind the scenes”.
Do you have a source, since I personally would like this feature as well and knowing ANet is working on it would be rather comforting.
This is how the world ends, not with a bang but with a quaggan.
Safe to say this has been the only LS release that hasn’t gotten a single red post on its forum. Why is that? Don’t want to spoil anything or is there really nothing to discuss?
Well we’ll know very soon… very soon indeed.
Please, please, please, stop with the IRL arguments. This is a fantasy game – your arguments are irrelevant. You can have all the realism you want in Call of Duty where a 1-handed pistol will typically beat a 2-handed Sniper Rifle in close-quarters.
Suspension of disbelief only goes so far. The fantasy setting doesn’t negate the fact that I, living in a non-fantasy setting, need to be able to gain a sense of emergence into the said fantasy setting in order to fully enjoy it. The issue here is when we deviate from what I know, particularly in the small details (since I’m oddly fine with Zombie Dragon and Cat people) since it’s these small details that are usually the things that come to gnaw at my subconscious ruining emergence.
Although I guess it comes down to: different strokes for different folks.
It’s really interesting, don’t they see that majority of players want permanent content ?
The majority of the forums do myself included, but I’m not sure how that translates to the larger playerbase.
Ah ok, I missed that bit. Shame, we get so few updates on forthcoming news about the game as it is.
True true. I remember before GW2 was released when they’d have a new blog post (sometimes mechanics, sometimes lore, sometimes even art or music) every few weeks. Sure it was technically to generate hype, but still would have been nice if they could have kept on doing that.
But on the bright side hopefully they’re too busy (working on GW2) to make a blog post.
I played two beta weekends and now that the NDA has been lifted I can honestly say….
I had more fun playing over this last beta weekend than I have over the MONTHS that I’ve played this game. Combat was fun to me, and way more action-packed than this game’s combat model.
I, for one, will happily be paying a sub again once this game comes out.
Well I’m glad you found something you like. I would say I’ll miss you (I’m guessing by your tone that you’ll be leaving?) but I honestly have no idea who you are. Still all the best with ESO, may it give you many many happy hours.
The only fact I see here is that no one actually knows anything for sure yet.
And that’s why we’re speculating. Tiding ourself over until ANet makes an announcement.
Not all of them are developers though.
They also have an art team and writers and so on. And those are NOT developers.
Well in my opinion artists and writers are developers. It’s when we get to the HR department and marketing guys that I start feeling ‘not developer’.
also, why not add bare-hand fighting style? that would be pretty cool
Actually that would be cool.
But thematically it probably only fits with the warrior. Maybe a thief (monk/ninja style). But I guess with some imagination you could make it work for other professions as well.
That’s why were drowning in bugs and —-- living story over here? for china?
How developer intensive is a translation? In my mind I can’t help but think all they need to do is translate text (the implementation of which shouldn’t take a programmer too long to do), record new audio (which might be time consuming but probably not requiring of the main development team).
Mmm although by all appearances it would appear I’m missing something, particularly if your assumption that core team members (or at least a significant number) at ANet are being used to create the translation is correct.
Hmmm, so WvW is the GW2 end game eh?
Depends who you ask really.
What is WwW? o.O is it an Alien-face? :O
Will asume that is a serious question. If not no need to read further.
WwW = World world World or alternatively World vs world vs World of more commonly WvW / World versus World. Its that thing in the mists where 3 servers fight each other (i.e. why there are 3 ‘w’, but I commonly see people simply referring to it as WvW).
8 seems like a odd number, particularly if the starting point is 5.
Although one area where I think ANet could focus on is difficulty scaling. They sort of have it in world bosses (although imperfectly so since usually all they do is scale hp) so I don’t see why they couldn’t implement similar content scaling in dungeons and fractals (to a certain extent of course, eventually you’d just start crowding too much). But as nice as such a system might be I think ANet would firstly have to play around with world boss scaling (you know looking how you can make the boss challenging for larger mobs but not tedious i.e. more massive hp scaling) since if they don’t do it right we’d probably see a lot of unhappy people.
Unfortunately assuming people who post on the forums play is a big problem. You often have people flat out state they do not play the game and have not in a year or more.
My advice is to play the game and get feedback from people actually in the game environment.
I’ve seen this many times myself. You’d think if they disliked the game so much and no longer played that they’d actually go and find a game that’s more to their liking, MMO market is fairly diverse (although the cover arcing video game market is even more diverse particularly if we look at the indie scene).
Most of the criticism in these forums can actually be ignored purely on said grounds alone. Which is rather sad, when I see people listing the things they don’t like (like in this very thread) I’m unsure if the person complaining is doing so in hopes of highlighting an issue in order to help make the game better. Usually my rule of thumb is: if the person is complaining but provides no ideas or suggestions his complaint can be (if not completely outright ignored) taken with a pinch of salt.
This is actually an example of a mass ad hominem. It deals with zero game issues and assumes that any problem on the forums arises from a mythical group of posters that “hate”. Bad logic and bad argumentation.
This is actually an example of the fallacy fallacy.

I have to agree with the notion that if you’re doing no dps something is wrong, no class is pure support. That being said, I do feel the dps only measure of event involvement is a overly simplistic. A dps only measure allows a person who is only auto-attacking to get the same reward as the person jumping around and actually using his abilities.
However the issue here is not event involvement, since ressing does count last time I checked, it’s mob loot… yet again. Personally I’m of the opinion that if loot is so important you can go ride the train in Queensdale.
However maybe ANet can change how mob loots works in events, how about after the event ends people get trash/junk-items based on their involvements which is in turn more inclusively looks at support as well?
I seriously doubt LA will be all gone forever, it will be back as before. Otherwise I am going to say Anet is being horrible, we need LA, I refuse to think Anet would get rid of the biggest hub in the game.
Very likely, but I’d rather want to see LA slowly get rebuilt over time (i.e. over multiple content patches) then see it return to normal after the 2 weeks or so.
