Well, dunno where else i can suggest this, but what do you say about an alliance system? If some of you played other MMOs then you know what i am talking about. An alliance system having like 4-6 parties, 1 leader and maybe a co-leader on every party, and a nice alliance of 20 players (if 4 parties) or 30 players (if 6 parties). This would be usefull in WvW, guild missions, or maybe if the GvGs are implemented, since this http://gw2gvg.com/ will be closed in like 1 month and half.
So what do you think?
So basically like Raid-groups in WoW. Well I guess with the zerg PvE and WvW that could be useful.
I keep hearing people say: GW2 has bad AI. But I have no idea what people mean by that. Do you mean the variety of abilities that a enemy has? Cause that’s not AI. Do you mean stacking? Since that seem more to be a dungeon design issue than an AI issue.
Really I’d like to add to the conversation but I think the vocabulary needs some refinement.
Actually I don’t like temporary content in the gem store. Temporary items that you earn in game via achievements is fine, but stuff I have to pay for? It’s like if the grocery store only temporarily stocked items. The more options I have the better I think. There are times I just don’t want to buy any gems because I’m between temporary releases.
At the very least account bound reusable skin… maybe when they include that wardrobe some of us players have been asking for.
Well I’ve posted something similar before, but if we assume that the Living Story takes place after the Personal Story and Dungeon Stories then it’s safe to say that the Nightmare Court is running a bit low on leadership. Scarlet being an anarchistic Sylvari could easily convince some of the Nightmare Court to join her (an over zealous champion or two might bring some of their friends along), especially since the command structures might be shacky at present.
Personally I think it’s far more likely that the Sylvari are the product of the Druids, perhaps as a why to ‘arm’ nature and the Dream against the reawakening of Modremoth. It would explain why the Sylvari are humanoid, their location and why a sylvari PC has the ability to summon a Druid Spirit as a elite racial skill.
On that note, I came across an interesting piece of lore while browsing the wikis.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Melandru
In the Scriptures of Melandru it speaks of a godless tribe who were turned into plant beings by Melandru. Given my limited knowledge of the lore, they might have been turned into treant. Still I though it was interesting.
Dwarves vs Primordus
Sylvari vs Mordremoth
Mmmm I like it. Although that brings up the question who was the counter balance for Zhaitan and why didn’t we seen them?
For easy consumption I put that in a meme for you.
That’s not a meme that’s an image macro
I honestly and full-heartedly humble myself before your pedantry, good sir.
The downside of having a large player base. We have a lot of WoW immigrants (myself included, although excluded from what follows:) who are more accustomed to the gear treadmill, raids content. We have GW1 players, who are (never played it) of a different mind set (not sure but I do know they complain often about stuff). I’m sure there’s a bunch of other MMO immigrants brining their own baggage around. With such a wide variety of players it’s impossible to satisfy everyone.
WvW players liked EoTM, while PvE player bemoaned the lack of content.
Hardcore player liked the Tequatl change, while casuals bemoaned it.
Casuals liked some of the more casual Living Story content while Hardcore players would run through it in 2 days and bemoan how short it is.
Grinders wanted grindy content, and we got fractals, and ascended, which caused a lot of player to complain again.
In the lore discussion threads there was calls that our characters weren’t the heros, when in the next patch we got placed into a more prominent role some players didn’t like that.
I can only hope ANet employees have thick hides, since they get flak no matter what they do. However they do have players statistics that we don’t have, so possibly they have a better understanding of what the majority of the player base is or isn’t doing.
Playing an asura or charr is pure suffering when it comes to skins. I would never have rolled my asura had I known they were going to be so lazy with the armors. Right now I’d really love for the priority to be actually making the armors look good on the various races.
I have the feeling they make it for human / sylvari / norn first and then adapt it for Charr / Asura. I guess 3/5 isn’t too bad…
As a necro-player I feel you’re discriminating against my kind. I hereby demand you add a necro. If only in a reserve spot.
Being able to toggle more armour on / off would be nice.
A skin locker would probably be the best, I’m sure there are plenty of skins I never paid notice to while leveling skins which in the right combination might give me the look I want.
Although I can’t really speak to quality, what we do lack is some variety and quantity.
I think a big issue has to do with all the different races / gender / size combination (although race tends to be a bit annoying when a medium armour looks good on my Charr but horrible on my Norn because they’re very literally different armours). So a lot of effort needs to go into creating armour. Effort means Time means Money, means that there’s a reason we mostly see new armour in the TP.
the issue with TP armour of course is that players will expect something new, not a reskin or touch up. However I’m sure players would be a bit less vocal if these armours were made freely available in the game itself. Not saying that all new armours in game should be reskins, but it would be an easy way to increase the quantity in a short amount of time, while every few weeks you bring out a new unique skin (be it TP or in game, although in game would be great).
Small variations on current armour might not seen such a big deal but when creating the perfect look for my character I tend end up saying: “This would be nice, except for this or that”.
Anyone who makes the game about loot is probably not going to have a good time. The shame is so many people think loot is the game.
For easy consumption I put that in a meme for you.
Anyway a lack of gold never really bothers me, if I need to buy something I run a few dungeons. Although since I actually buy gems every now and then when the mood hits me I guess I don’t get caught in the ‘grind→ gold → gem’ situation.
Evon is a businessman so the first thing he’s going to do is rebuild his business. He could move his center of operations away from Lion’s Arch but there’s nowhere obvious for it to go.
I always wonder why he didn’t do this before the attack. The players and Anet like to portray him as a cunning businessman, but he spend months saying that Scarlet is going to attack LA, yet he didn’t do anything to prepare for it. He should have been moving his base of operations, or at least his goods, out of LA. He had more than enough money to have had bought and build warehouses and to hired security to protect the place.
Game Mechanics vs Lore, sure. But the Black Lion Trading Post is still open for business and working fine. One could argue that he did in fact do so.
“My business is in tatters, and I’m surrounded by refugees who can’t buy my stock. Yeah, my day is looking up."
Those aren’t the words of someone you planned ahead.
Devil’s Advocate (since Evon is the coolest and stuff), maybe it’s not the stock that’s been destroyed but the client base. With everyone else having lost so much, he can’t sell anything and thus has secret warehouses full of dead-stock. Explains the BLTP specials we’re been having lately.
…Why do people keep trying to make Scarlet sound like a good guy?
Because Anti-Heros are cool, and Canach isn’t scratching that itch any more.
I have a problem with this whole “Scarlet wants to intrrupt the leylines to wake up Modremoth”-theory.
It’s that in the Thaumanova Reactor Fractal she says:At least they helped identify the network of magical channels that crisscross the globe. That was a breakthrough. Now we know how NOT to do this kind of research right on an intersection of those channels.
This is something I never really understood. Scarlett basically knew that there was an intersection of ley lines beneath thaumanova reactor. If she wanted to simply disrupt them, why not just drill there? Especially since they seem to be fairly close to Modremoth’s estimated location. From the schemematic on the wall inside of the breachmaker it seems, however, that her intention was to find the “center” of the ley lines. (which could either be where they all meet or where they all originate.) I’m not an expert on dragon magic but wouldn’t that mean that all of the elder dragons get affected by her drilling there?
Maybe it was an intersection of the wrong leylines?
or maybe by “how not do this kind of research” she meant rip a hole in the space time continuum.
Anyway, from what I know EDs aren’t intelligent not in a conventional sense. They’re forces of nature with the sole purpose of consuming magic. They corrupt intelligent races and these races act as general, organising the army and forces. It’s like a queen bee, she just lays around all day laying eggs (in the case of EDs corrupting) and getting fed while the workers bees (the corrupted) do all the work.
They’re described as forces of nature by Tyrians – that’s not a scientific notion, it’s simply the way they’re choosing to cope/understand/deal with the dragons power. Pretty sure the dragons are quite intelligent.
One of them was intelligent enough to know that his champion was free from his influence and ending her life was the first thing he did after waking up.
…yeah, I’d say they’re smart.
Ok fine fine :P
Still I like the idea of them being more instinctual. A champion betrays, ED gets angry and gets revenge.
If the Nightmare is a form of corruption, why didn’t Mordy just use Faolain.
Depending on the time line, Faolain my be dead already, as well as some of the leadership of the Nightmare Court. Although timelines between PS / Dungeons and Living Word is a bit iffy.
The sylvari can’t be corrupted. But how would you explain scarlet? Maybe, just maybe, all sylvari are already corrupted already by an elder dragon before they awaken. And because of that, they can’t be corrupted by another dragon.
Well one could argue free-will. Sylvari’s seem by all accounts to have free-will. The soundless purposefully separate themselves from the dream, the Nightmare Court purposefully go against Ventari’s teachings.
Sure would solve a lot of problems if all Sylvari would just be slaves to the Pale Tree, no Nightmare Court, no Scarlet.
To cut your theory off, secondary corruption does not kill an individual. When a charr gets corrupted by let’s say Jormag, he can still be corrupted by Kralkatorrik and followed by perhaps Zhaitan. This is shown in the Crucible of Eternity dungeon.
Some debate, since we can assume that Inquest experimentation was also involved. So multiple corruption is possible, the question is would it occur naturally without the aid of inquest experimentation. Which I guess we don’t know, yet.
Yes, I said it didn’t need to happen. If you take that scene away, it changes -nothing- about the instance dungeon and the story. It has no impact on it. Marjory and Rox are both still injured, Scarlet is still dead, the Elder Dragon still gets woken up, and the drill still explodes.
No it is important as it shows the process of the relationship. Something they’ve been working on for months. Why can’t GW2 have sub-plots occurring along with the main-plot? Why can’t a single event progress multiple plot lines? Why can’t we defeat Scarlet and see the progression Marjory and Kasmeer’s relationship? I don’t see you complaining about how Rox and Brahams relationships was also progressed during the same event.
Reasons why your server seems “dead”
1) Guesting to popular servers to play with skilled players in PvE
2) Transferring to higher tiered servers to play with skilled players in WvW
3) Your server is populated in time zones opposite of you
4) Everyone’s doing content in places that you’re not
This. But apparently it’s easier to say “player are leaving”, since that is based on personal perception and not logical deduction.
Anyway I’d advise transferring to one of the high population servers, always people around.

That and now this.
Seems ANet can’t win no matter what.
Hello everyone.
From what we’ve seen these last couple of days in the Battle for Lion’s Arch arc, I doubt that the Lion’s Arch we know is going to return. As a matter of fact, things may turn out pretty badly for the heroes of Tyria.
All opinions, ideas and creative posts are welcome.

lol I think you switched your spoiler tag around a bit :P

Those Twitter accounts are not run by ArenaNet.
That’s a relieve, just think of the lore implications if Mordy was not only full articulate (something of an oddity amongst ED) but also able to use twitter.
Majory: Stop don’t go any further!
Kasmeer: Why?
Majory: Mordremoth tweeted #TrapLaidforMajoryandMasmeer
Kasmeer: Oh that’s a relieve, something bad could have happened.
The moment everything is unbounded then everything can be traded. To take this to a logical extreme, you’d be able to buy everything. So you’ll not be earn anything so much as buying everything. Some items can probably be changed but in general the idea behind bound items is important.
often times I think that those kinds of fun facts should be kept to novels or interviews with the writers. It doesn’t necessarily have a place in the story.
So homosexuality belongs out of sight, should be placed in… lets say… a closet of sorts?
Yeah. I guess my opinion in this regards can be best expressed in bad 80s music.

This sounds familiar:

As far as I know EDs aren’t very smart, but their minions tend to be. So the ED is all about “feed me” and the minions are the ones that need to organise, plan and make it happen.
After all the hard wor that Scarlet went through to wake up her master, I think it’s a safe position to say that she was corrupted.
Mentally corrupted, yes. No signs of physical corruption, probably due to being a Sylvari.
My guesses -
What happened to Mai Trin? We know she escaped to EotM.
- There Aetherblades will probably not disappear entirely so there are some good story options left with her. The other alliances could completely dissolve.
Hey, they’re clearly a very effective pirate group (when compared to the usual pirates). I don’t see them simply fading away. The other alliances… they’ll probably be absorbed into their original factions, probably spreading some of their knowledge.
Attached, the new threat.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scorch_Emberspire, so spirits can be found in the mist. But yes to gain access to the underworld would be a bit more tricky I guess.
I mind that when Scarlet asked “do you want to hear why I did all that ?” some idiot said “no” and we didn’t say anything.
This is actually the thing that could have been done better. For a while now I’ve been saying we need more meaningful dialog (RPG style). If we had that we could have chosen “Shut up Bro-Ham, I’ve been slogging through the Scarlet Alliance for months and I want to know WHY!?”. But since we can’t talk…
As for the final blow… well people have been asking for our characters to be the Hero for a while now, and now we have what we wanted. Another community-ANet catch-22.
EDIT: I liked the stomp itself, it felt finisher-ish to me. Hands-on if you will.
So: If Sylvari’s have spirits then they will go to the afterlife. If Scarlet’s soul hasn’t been eaten / captured by her dragon overlord it seem obvious that she would be in the afterlife / mists. So theoretically we should be able to find her.
Although, don’t dead Sylvari turn into trees?
Yeah, I mostly climbed on the Scarlet-love-wagon when everyone else was climbing on the Scarlet-hate-wagon.
Well it seems like most ED spent time underground or underwater, and I don’t particularly think they’re particularly bothered by this having-to-breath business, so I don’t see why you couldn’t survive both on land and in water.
So this is basically flavour lore, is the human pov centric lore of GW1 incorrect? Is the new lore correct or not?
Noticeable Lower Population after Patch
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
After the patch, I have noticed lower population in lion’s arch than it was before. Back then even Overflow were quite populated, now kinda sucks.
It feels dead, and people only shows up when the new champions(assault knights?) are about to spawn.
Could be because players are getting dumped to desktop. Repeatedly. Like, a lot.
Maybe, I’ve heard some complaining in my guild, but never experienced it myself.
Yeah, I’ve never seen melee being cocooned. Might just be luck on my part.
This LS Event needs to be longer than 2 weeks
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
They might extend it to 4 weeks, they use to do that, 2 weeks for the main LS then when the new LS dropped they’d still keep the old one around. Since the next patch will be a Epilogue, depending on how comprehensive it will be (i.e. will it be a few talky cut scenes or will they actually start making alteration to LA) we might still have battle for LA continuing.
Maybe she will not live on in leaf and sap but she will live on in the hearts of minds of all those she’s touched.
The leeching problem has been a problem since the scarlet invasions and continues to be one.
Shamefully enough I must admit I tried to afk-leech Scarlet Invasion events… (I promise I never did something like that again, mostly because) and I barely got any loot at all. Scarlet Invasion was a better designed event since you had to actively participate to get anything. Although if by leeching you’re referring to the champ farming, then yes that was pretty annoying at times. Although ANet did implement something new for the marionette, champs that don’t drop champ boxes, so players had to actively work toward the goal to be rewarded. Still it seem that they’ve reintroduced afk-leeching.
Unfortunately given the cost of content development you have a choice: heavy grind (this is what most MMOs do), or less grindy but shorter content. This is simply the sad fact of the matter, ANet cannot produce content as fast as players can consume it.
Well on the one hand it has been buggy, on the other they’re quick to address most of the game breaking bugs.
**Spoilers** Nowhere to Hide achievement
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
I hate this achiev… Watching the movie for 5min then fail.. watching the movie for 5min then fail… What do you want me to do…. Format Guild Wars 2 from my computer? I will soon do it
Some achievements require skill and understanding of game/event mechanics.
Which is unfortunately not the problem here. It’s the cutscenes that can’t be skipped.
Scarlet Stomp is extremely annoying
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
Ahh so annoying, I do the first stomp dodge the aoe, run back to do the final stomp and 1 second before it hits the aoe gets me. 1 bloody second… 5 times now. Must be my lag. Very annoying (although mostly just because of the un-skip-able cutscene).
New patch, same problem. Would it helped to know I’m also from SA (OpenWeb ISP client)? Anyway changing the DNS seems to have worked for me.
This whole development of the atlas so far has been everything that DEFIES business practices, love it? SURE! hate it? OH YES! I’m torn, I can’t bring myself to enjoy something that has no structure.
Definitely could use some improvement. Perhaps a time-line with a slider, allowing us to see which events popped up when? Or see how events are connected.
It has a lot of potential, but to achieve that would also require a lot of work.
There is expansion coming with new personal story, new locations, many more features. It will be released in smaller chunks via living story. Do you really need to hear it from Anet? It is obvious…..
I think people are holding out hope for something different from last year. Also ANet usually goes into a bit more detail as to what to expect, some reflection, some inflection etc. At the very least it’s usually a good indication of which way ANet is leaning.
Guild bonuses are nice. Also chatting, asking questions etc.. Running dungeons together, a guild run tends to be better than a pug for a number of reasons.
Guild Wars 2 however doesn’t have any substantial game changing benefits to being in a guild. Good and bad I guess, those that aren’t in guilds don’t really feel like they have to join a guild or that they’re at a disadvantage.
Loading screens in general are becoming a burden in this game. There are times when I find myself wondering if the client has simply frozen/crashed.
Yeah I know that feeling, usually my ISP though.
My main complaint is when you log out of a character on the ship you have to load onto the ship just to be kicked to the ground which you have to load for again.
Actually I think the Airship is a completely different map/instance, for overflow purposes I’m guessing, could potentially be very crowded up there. Too bad they couldn’t get a The Glory of Tyria sized airship.
