Biased Survey. The people enjoying the game are playing the game, not posting on an unknown “board”. Mind posting a link?

A logical and solid hypothesis, too bad its for the most part falling on deaf ears.

Why the call for Angel to be fired??? Why single her out? She seems so nice, and I can’t imagine her writing would be considered so much worse than any of the other writers’.

Have you ever heard of the great man theory? Well in essence it states: “History is simply the autobiography of great men”. In essence all things that occur can be traced to a single person. Now this is not accurate, the theory obviously fell out of favour in recent times (history keeping got better, we able to more easily recognise the people working in the background etc.). But it’s still something that lingers though, we’re still very prone to the cult of personality.

So what am I trying to get at? People tend to put too much emphasis on the influence of individuals, they tend to believe that a single person is to be blamed or praised. Angel is simply that person at the moment, those calling for her to be fired don’t understand that she isn’t working alone, that there are inherent limitation and difficulties in crafting a video game story, that LW is a new concept and that the first season was primarily experimental etc.
Honestly poor Angel, can’t feel all that nice being the focus of so much dislike.

The game needs work, especially in the story-telling area. Colin, along with the lead writer himself posted in the Living Story section of the forums that they’re taking in to account players feedback and are really looking to make changes with their writing in the future.

Just keep in mind, constructive player feedback. Constructive doesn’t mean “A sucks”, constructive is more along the lines of “A sucks because of B”. This is unfortunately something we don’t see a lot of, even OP (which on review is you) basically did the: “This sucks”, “why did you do this”, “you shouldn’t have done that”. Which is complaints, complaints are useful in some ways but constructive feedback is far more important since it provides a solid reasoning for the whys and hows.

As an example: A sucks. So ANet does B. But B also sucks. So ANet does C etc. etc. While all the while if someone had just said A sucks because of this and this. Then ANet would be in a better position to resolve the issue with a desirable solution.

What the forum really benefits from is the CDI threads. I can’t know how often you want a gathered and constructive feedback thread but you should put them up more frequently just for different gametypes in the game such as WvW,PvP,PvE,Dungeons,LS and other things. I love those threads.

Yeah CDI is nice, firstly a lot of complaining gets bundled together in the CDI and the general mood gets better since players feel like someone is listening to them. And of course it probably helps make the game better too.
Most likely however we’ll only get to see another CDI when ANet starts looking at another feature patch, or something similar. I guess this makes sense, having a CDI every few weeks might desensitise player to the concept, since the speed at which a CDI can be help is a lot quicker than the speed of implementing suggestions.

What about the “hire this person” instead?

Well some issues with that of course namely, how many video game story tellers do you think the average video game players knows? Of the few that might be known (so then mostly big names) what is the viability of getting these people hired, since one would assume that they already have a job if they’re all that great and stuff.

I think ANet could probably refine their model a bit, it’s not bad but it’s not good either (especially since it’s not core to the game).

Spirits?

CureForLiving.5360

I must say conceptually the Fade (from Dragon Age) seems to have a lot of similarity to the Mist. Both can be used to construct magical places and entities, although where the Fade ties in heavily to the creation myth of Dragon Age, the Mist sort of does the same but is a bit more unclear about the who and how and why.
So could there be a spiritual entity pop out of the mist and posses someone? Why not, the Mist is the building blocks of all reality, so why not build a possessing-spirit.

It’s possible that you have ran into Diminishing Returns, which seems to happen if you farm an entire zone for more than 3 hours.

Doing other stuff, other zones for a while should solve this, if this is indeed Diminishing Returns.

From my understanding playing on an alt is also a way to get around DR.

Perhaps Malyck will have returned to a Tree that is thoroughly influenced by Modremoth. Seems like the only option to me considering a dragon needs an army, and Husks don’t go a far way.

There is no reason that the dragon in the jungle couldn’t corrupt humans or anything else it comes into contact with, plant or animal. The other dragons are able to corrupt a wide variety of plants and animals.

Which begs the question, what does a plant look like that’s been corrupted by a plant dragon. A dead body corrupted by Zhaitan is still a dead body after all (just more talkative and mobile).

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Mega-servers address a big issue faced by all MMOs (or at least all MMOs with a progressive levelling system), that is a lack of players in the mid level areas. Sure you’d get a couple of people in the starting zones but the more they progress the more areas they have to explore and the more spread out they become. Usually players are funnelled together again in high level areas, or in the case of GW2 by living world events.
There’s a lot of contributing factors, usually MMOs have a fairly fixed core population and thus the longer the game goes on the less likely those players are to have low level characters, etc etc.

What effect the feature pack will have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Actually I don’t think Anet has a problem stopping people from going to another MMO. Those that are going were going anyway. Those that weren’t going were staying anyway. I doubt very much this feature pack changed whether anyone was going or staying.

The only thing it might have done is made some people come back that had already left.

Very much this. Not every game can satisfy every player. Those that are leaving probably don’t like what GW2 is offering which is fine. Those that like raids won’t like GW2 very much, those that like trinity ditto etc. Rather ANet focus on making GW2 a better GW2 than making GW2 a very bland same-y MMO.

Royal Pass be unlimited, like HoM Stone?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Well the question you need to ask yourself is: does ANet only want to buy 1 pass? Sure it’s account bound so you can swap it around, but there comes a point where player convenience means shooting themselves in the foot. As it currently is as long as you’re not an alt-aholic it works fine, or if you’re busy focusing on level a character.

Speculation facilitating friendly play

CureForLiving.5360

Private Overflows

But this wouldn’t so much facilitate friendly play as much as it would facilitate exclusion and separation.

I would not like to see the removal of rally on defeating opponents, at least not for PvE. It can be very useful sometimes, although players don’t always know how to use it properly.

Don’t you just love it when someone is lying there, not attacking not doing anything, just expecting someone to run up and heal them. Still I like it as well, very nice last mechanic.

Talking about dungeons, I hope they will remove the event next to the entrance of CoF, so that players don’t have to guest to other servers to enter the dungeon.

Or at the very least make it more solo-able.

An ingame worldboss timer would also be great. One that people can toggle on and off when they want.

This would be a great QoL feature.

As much as I try to explain the lore and such to him he has this feeling that in RP, you can only play a human as humans have all their magic and professions given to them by the bloodstones and such which were made by the Forgotten and used further by the 6 gods making our schools of magic etc and the whole Abbadon fiasco of gw 1.

Technically the blood stones don’t so much give magic as take magic, the blood stones are actually preventing magic from being used to it’s fullest. The human gods didn’t give anyone anything, they took it away. Also it wasn’t really the human gods that gave magic it was Abaddon.

The guy now just want to have his humans be atheist which really makes things worse for my case… I don’t want to put his name here as that will be shaming, flaming and baiting.

Humans can be atheists in GW2. There are many ways to achieve this, firstly simply not believing in the Gods, they left more than a thousand years ago. No living human has ever seen one of the Gods so that could be grounds for a character to believe the Gods are only fantasies, tales created to explain things. Alternatively he can take the Charr route, and believe that although there are powerful entities in existence, that they are not gods. This isn’t that hard to believe either since the human gods have seen casualties, depowerings etc.

The Pact justification

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

If it was the Pact vs Aetherblades, attrition is indeed a very valid tactic. THE PACT have much more land and resources. So it is valid to take advantage of that

Hey guys, the Pact is apparently a land holding nation.

Actually they do have their head-quarters and it does seem like they own the surrounding area. Possibly it’s only given to them by the governing bodies of those areas, but that still qualifies them as land holding. As for nation… well if the Vatican can be a nation why not.

Pact Airships continue to battle the dragon champions above Orr. Go to Malchors Leap and look up. No airships to occupy the dragons, the land troops will be wiped out and overpowered.

This is where the timeline issue comes in. Technically what you’re seeing happens before Zhaitan was killed. LA happens well after Zhaitan was killed. ANet has never actually come out and told us what would happen to the Risen when Zhaitan died, do they all die? Well we know Tequatl is still around so probably not. Do they continue doing what they’re doing? Are there still new Risen being made? For all we know killing Zhaitan might have done practically nothing to change the situation of Orr, or it might have drastically devastated the Risen forces meaning that a large chunk of Pack forces were freed up to do other things.

Pact Airships continue to battle the dragon champions above Orr. Go to Malchors Leap and look up. No airships to occupy the dragons, the land troops will be wiped out and overpowered.

Zhaitan is dead, at least temporarily. The Risens are as weak as they could ever be. This is a fact.

Um… well it was strongly hinted that defeating Zhaitan would deal a major blow to the Risen. It’s not exactly a fact, but it is very very much heavily implied.

I would feel more immersion into the emotion of the story, if it only was written like an actual war. What we had instead is “war” being played at. Half the decisions by the good guys were pretty much deliberately made to cause a failure.

In hindsight if people had made the correct decision at the correct time we wouldn’t have had any wars, ever.

It was a disaster, brought about by politicians and poor tacticians, when a whole force of players (tactical geniuses and heroic warriors) were sitting on their kitten unable to help or turn the course of events.

Iin general wars are the result of politicians and poor tacticians… In the real world a lot of blood shed could have been avoided if the world had better politicians and better tacticians. And the kicker, there are actually competent people in this world, it’s simply that those people are rarely the ones with the power and authority to stop bad things from happening.
Also we players did help, we saved hundreds if not thousands of civilians and helped regain LA.

It wouldn’t be a “natural progression” at all, as I imagine the majority of people realize that a few bad people does not an entire evil race make.

The closet things we can use for comparison is the real world. Unfortunately in the real world very few people make the logical connection that a few doesn’t necessarily represent the many. Especially if they themselves have in some way been harmed or slighted.

I don’t think it’d be a great idea to make a chunk of the playerbase feel unwelcome in the game, either.

True enough.

MMOs and timelines… you basically just have to accept it I’m afraid. A linear story based game this isn’t really an excusable problem however in a MMO were you have a open world, where a players can be at any point in the personal story (with so many different combinations of races, backgrounds and orders to keep track of), where a player could have taken part or not taken part in any of the previous Living World events… Well it becomes close to humanly impossible to keep track of all those combinations and craft specific responses that will unique to each character.

Taimi’s adorable, but naive to the point of being stupid, for an Asura, who are supposed to be brilliant. What’s with all that “When I grow up I want to be just like that (supposedly horrific mass-murderer)?” Spouting out sciency-sounding phrases does not make one an Asura.

Actually if you play through some of the Asura heavy areas… well lets say that releasing enrage fire elemental, creating a hyper intelligent skritt army, opening portals into the heart of Orr and releasing a ooze plague is pretty much day to day in the life of the Asura, all of which kinda gives them more the impression of not always thinking things through, stupidly so.

Usually it’s better to split up for suggestions, simply because it becomes very difficult to have coherent conversation when you any new post could be referring to any number of previously listed things. Also usually when people lists things, like you have, they don’t give very detailed descriptions.

But anyway. Ranger pet… this is purely aesthetic, and would be nice but you can have 2 pets, do you show both or only the one you logged out with?
Mmm weapons skills… well adding more active weapon skills I disagree with, adding some optional skills you can slot in and out… well I’ve started to warm up to it. Was playing a dual sword mesmer and I must say I didn’t like the lack of direct damage much, being able to swap out one or two of the current skills for something that gives a bit more bang would be nice (since I like having a melee cleave weapon for when mobs get close).
Templates would be be logical next step.
Rest of your suggestions aren’t very clear.

Also, remember dungeons, world events and bosses are balanced around specific game mechanics, introducing radically different mechanics would potentially introduce game breaking issues, or a massive redesign of every single dungeon and world boss.

CureForLiving.5360

So the accomplishment of acquiring t3 armor effectively locks out all your other characters from wearing that (ascended) armor? Unless of course you’re willing to spend 6 charges every time?

… Convenience only goes so far, the alternative is that ANet start punishing those with multiple T3 armour sets, or alternatively make it so that there is no point to having more than one T3 armour set.

Perhaps moving Ascended armour to another alt should (or will) automatically reset it’s skin.

Transferable Ascended gear is, after all, a massive convenience for the player as it is.

This hasn’t been announced, so maybe or maybe not.

April Joke... Upcoming April Patch

I think the upcoming April Patch will not be released, i think ANET just created a huge April Joke and wont change any of the Things they´ve said.. I mean Legendary and Ascended Gear on every Character?! It seems VERY nice to me, but seriously?! I hope its not an April Joke.. That would be so sad… :/

What do u think?! (sry for my English im from German )

Doubtful, if this was all A big April fools joke we’d probably see them making extreme claims. Usually a good April fools joke (happens on 1st of April…) has a touch of unreal-ness to it, if they claimed that you’d be able to buy a Legendary for 50 Gold, that would seem unrealistic. If they claimed that they’d triple the material cost of ascended items and remove all current ascended items so that everyone starts over from the beginning, that would be unrealistic.

Homogenization of cultures of the races

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

This may be true but the main homogenization is in areas such as LA. In the racial heartlands you see much less of it. Not that celebrations like Mad King’s Day isn’t celebrated in Hoelbrak or the Black Citadel.

Well Hoelbrak and Black Citadel never seem to really put up any decoration :P

But yes in the homelands there is less homogenization since there is less interaction with other cultures, with the extreme being (like I previously noted) the hostile factions like the flame legion, Sons or Nightmare court, all of whom (without the interference of a certain super-genius sylvari) don’t particularly like anyone other than themselves.
And again a lot of this is, as others have noted, because we’ve spend a lot of time in very mixed areas (like LA, or running around with the Orders).

Some more racial tension would however work very well in creating more distinction between races i.e. if charr experience a lot of hatred from other races, they’d be more incline to only mix with other charr, they’d possible even start viewing other races with some hostility themselves and associate the cultural practices, habits and believes of other cultures with distrust and thus be more willing to conform to and live their own cultures. Of course introducing racism might be effective, but not necessarily desirable.

I think narratively speaking we need less Orders and more involvement of the racial military factions. For example I think the Blood Legion would be far more Charr-ish than say a Vigil group with a couple of Charrs, some Norns, a human or two and the token Asura.

Homogenization of cultures of the races

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

I disagree with that. Europe is a prime example, not to mention Asia. Those states have largely retained their cultural uniqueness for over a thousand years, whether in war or peace. Granted that uniqueness is slipping a little more every day, but it’s no where near becoming marginalized yet. And it’s a good thing, too. Losing that heritage to homogenization would not only be unfortunate, but diluting to humanity.

I’m referring to a world like Tyria where all the races get along without any problems create a perfect mechanism by which ideas and believes can be shared and adopted, thus leading to homogenization.
Also… not so sure Europe get’s along all that well with… well Europe. I also can think of a couple of Asian countries that really really don’t like each other. I might be wrong on both account… I’m very far from Eurasia, so my perspective is different.

Scarlets "master" speculation

CureForLiving.5360

I’m personally led to believe whatever was pushing it’s-way into Scarlet was not dragon-related. Rather the fracturing of the ley line was incidental (which still ties into A-net saying that Scarlet’s actions were not related to any dragons directly).

Someone that’s been in hiding. Say someone like Lazarus the Dire (who has a past of inhibiting other beings, although no precedent for the manner in which scarlet was this time). That’s still a pipe-dream but I cant’t help but look at the completed Spinal Blade back-piece and just wonder.

Ah could the spinal back piece be a subtle hint of Mursaat? I don’t know…
But I do like the possession theory, and Scarlet could simply be the result of what happens when something attempts to possess a sylvari. They’re dragon corruption immune, maybe their also a little immune against possession. Meaning her madness was the result of the very real battle between Ceara and Scarlet.

Homogenization of cultures of the races

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Homogenization is a very real thing that happens when different culture mix for long enough. It seems very realistic that in a world like tyria where charr, human, sylvari and norn hold hands and go off adventuring together (sorry Asura are too short they can’t hold hands) then cultural boundaries would start to overlap and ideas and believes would start to be shared.

The only way for a culture to not be homogenized is for it to have no sociable interaction with other culture, ideally via complete isolation. The only way for interacting cultures to not be homogenized is if the cultures had a mistrust or dislike of each other (which is not the case in tyria).

In fact the most non-homogenised cultures are the ‘evil’-groups. The nightmare court, inquest (less so perhaps), and flame legion are all very distinct with their own unique feel, attitudes and world views.

It really isn’t hard to portray such story without cutscenes. They’ve done it before in guild wars 1. The bonus mission pack allowed you to take control of iconic heroes of guild wars 1 during a pinnacle lore moment.

They could have given us a brief view of scarlet’s rise to power each patch while keeping her indentity secret by having the player act out her forming each alliance. Not only would it have gotten the player invested in Scarlet but it would have given them a perfect venue to hint and tease at further content. Which would have kept players looking forward.

This is how you tell a story within a game, they should know this… THEY’VE DONE IT BEFORE.

The problem with season one is it lacks imagination. It’s rushed and shallow and destroys almost everything it worked up to right at the end. To make way for a new entirely unknown antagonist to take its place.

It’s a very interesting idea. Only issue I could think of would be that players might not want to play Scarlet i.e. players are attached to their character’s look and feel and abilities. But there could have been other ways around it, if you put some imagination to work.

I’d say hyperbole, but hyperbole is conveyed in such a way that the intent is not to be taken seriously. Anyway I highly doubt a company would purposefully create high expectations so that they can purposefully crush them. It’s not a sound business strategy. No I’m serious, alienating your client base is very bad business.

Those that think GW2 is dead, with no end-game will always think that, those that think GW2 is doing fine with plenty of things to do at end game will always think that.

Arguing is futile.

It’s not only about the rewards, it’s simply because they are too repetive and don’t give the player the illusion to have an impact on the world.

I’m sort of ok with the repetitive nature, my problem is with quantity and finding the things. In areas I’m familiar with I pretty much know where the events occur (but of course these are events I know very well), in areas I don’t know I can spend 10 minutes running around looking for an event and not find one.
So in my case all ANet needs to do is, add more events and perhaps consider the ability to see events across the entire map your in, or at least in a much larger area. Sure this does destroy the joy of stumbling across a new event, but unfortunately after 2 years with very few new events not a lot of new any more.

Me? I’ll start hunting down armour skins of course. This is probably the biggest change for me, since I’m pretty much what you’d call a casual.

I don’t champ farm so yeah this doesn’t impact me all that much. Sorry that your champ farming will be less productive.

Yes its pretty annoying to have to login, bank in, logout, login, bank out.
The issue of course is that a system like this would basically remove all need to create more than 1 ascended armour set i.e. once you have 1 ascended set you just transmute to all your alts. Maybe ANet just wants to keep the feeling of ‘acended is special’ going.

Your post on this thread is actually all we need to keep a thread alive Danicia The red Arena tag will now lure a lot more people to here xD

I must say a red tag is pretty eye catching, not to mention that this thread is now also accessible under the dev tracker.

Well I don’t think this will impact the average player too much. Maybe the champ train will take a knock, but essentially with this change the only running cost of pve play is waypoints.
