There was an interview in which Anet said they may return to the plot.
Oh would love to have a link, or at the very least a time frame. As exciting as this might be, I’ve come to accept that anything ANet said more than 6 months-12month ago should be taken with a pinch of salt, since in the meantime they’ve either done it or given up on it.
Although I still see this working as a once of Living World update, you know something we can do while ANets working on S3 or whatever. It could be as easy as a single new dungeon instance, plot wise something along the lines: “Zhaitan was beaten but not defeated, go forth and put the final nail in that coffin” or maybe even a new Zhaitan-esque ED rising to try and replace him.
“all you need is an organized group” + “open world event” + “megaserver” = “epic fail”. especially when there is no way to select a proper instance by yourself.
Argument is invalid when you consider most players pug it. The system of instancing is useful only if you already have a organised group (a guild or something similar) that’s been pre-organised to do the event. In such a case ANet offers the ability to start the event whenever you like. Meaning your guild doesn’t need an instance they just need to do it at some other time.
If Black Lion Skins bugged out they’d be fixed the next day.
That sounds about right, but that is because it is an entirely different system compared to the Mistforged Weapon in the way they are distributed.
This is the first time the Mistforged Weapons are given to players and are based on their participation based on a particular server. There are lots of things that can go wrong.
Besides, the Black Lion Skins are distributed for about 1.5 years the same way, so Anet knows how to fix it fast. The way mistforged weapons are given to players is new.
yeah pretty much this, the issue was with how tickets for delivered not with how skins are purchased.
The issue is that a system where new dailies unlock after current dailies are completed would inherently promote grind. Granted it would be a players choice but lets face it a lot of players will inherently perceive this system as forcing them to grind dailies.
From what I can tell there’s at best broadly defined rules and at the end of the day it comes down to what the particular mod feels and interprets within regards to the particular rule. So yeah, go for it and see what happens at worse you get a lock.
Yeah, you’ve got a point. Strange quirck in it’s design.
yeah, probably an oversight. Many years before when they implemented the system they probably didn’t consider this. I’m sure (if they see this thread) they’ll put it on the to do list. Probably right at the bottom since it’s taken 2 years for this to become a thing.
Final Rest. :P
(I don’t mind them adding scythes at some point, though.)
Yeah, my necro already has a scythe in GW2 and it’s called Final Rest.
Wish I had one. But yeah, ANet could simply introduce more scythe like skins for staffs. Maybe even a staff like skin for greatswords (although that might be pushing it a bit, conceptually).
Although don’t get me wrong, I would love new weapons.
Then we already have our answer. GW1 used “anime” scythes. If they were to bring them back, they would most likely be modeled on the old style. Whether or not people would take them using old models as marketing to the anime crowd is up to them.
If we wanted to be accurate we’d probably call it just a normal harvesting scythe (or so I assume from comparing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythe with http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scythe)
That being said, I think it’d actually be really cool if, for Necromancer polearm, the exact same thing happens as with their staff; that is, a shadowy scythe blade appears and the weapon is then used as such.
Well something similar, although not exactly visually similar since it would just be copy paste.
Use minimum size asura in SPvP to gain an unfair advantage, no one can see you, or see your skill animations. You can also hide inside your minions/turrets etc.
Legitimate cheating for the win.
You and I have very different experiences in spvp it seems. I seem to remember being condition spammed, and most of my 1v1 fights ending in the other team joining in and steam rolling over me.
I’d like to see them implement capes like we had in GW. Guild Capes were so much better than the crappy Guild Armor we have now. You could actually see the Guild Symbol on them.
It’s these Charrs you see, in GW everyone was human so you could easily animate capes, or write simple algorithms for animation.
I’d love for my guardian to have a cape, if the Charr are the main issue than I say release it for all but the Charr race.
Well I’d want to warn about the massive player uproar, but unfortunately Charr aren’t the most popular.
make it cultural backpieces.
each race gets their own unique style of capes
something like cabal online
This could work I guess, you’d be stealth introducing capes, without having all of them be exactly the same type of cape.

No I’m sorry accusing him of buying from gold sellers and having bad password were all wrong (he used upper, lower case, and symbols for his password and dungeons spammers don’t need gold sellers). All I’m saying is it’s possible for anyone to get hacked, and if it is there is nothing you have to protect yourself as a last resort. Even if they make a pin reset they can have a couple days for the new one to work which by then you can change all your passwords.
Luckily he’s being a good sport about losing his things for the most part because he doesn’t want too many things atm…
But did he have an authenticator? Just asking since I’ve got one, and I’m always a bit weary, always afraid the authenticator isn’t enough.
Zhaitan having primacy over Death is an interesting insight. However, death is the governance of Grenth and before that Dhuum etc…
Well as we don’t truly know the nature of the gods it’s either they have unlimited power over their particular domain, or they’re just exceptionally powerful within a specific domain.
I lean toward the second interpretation. So Grenth and previously Dhuum can exert a high level of control over death, to a godly extent even, but they are not omnipotent in the realm of death. Thus Zhaitan can also exert massive control over death and the realm of the dead (maybe to a lesser extent than Grenth) while still having a very clear dichotomy between him and Grenth.
Hope they do a trailer. Would really get the buzz going beyond the GW2 community.
Yeah, but something more than just a two minute trailer. I’d like it if they did a S2 trailer rather than a trailer for the coming living world release. The logic of course being that a S2 trailer would probably be far more exciting, and give us forum dwellers all sorts of interesting theory crafting (was Mordy or just a champion? Who was that? Is that a new dungeon? etc.).
The visual designs.
Story was a bit wobbly as they were still (in my opinion) figuring out how to effectively deliver narrative via living story. The open world content had similar issues with ANet doing a lot of experiments to figure out how to best deliver it (with some hits and misses). The meta-achievement model was decent but not the best, but I think that had to do with the time limited nature, grind is easier to achieve in a limited time.
But the visual design was good (probably since they could do what they do best, make things that looks interesting). Molten Alliance had an interesting look. Aetherblade didn’t really do it for me, but the Toxic Alliance and the Clockwork creatures made up for it. The wrecking of LA was also well done.
Temporary content is basically throwing their money out the window.
They have to pay the devs to create this content. And then 2-4 weeks later it’s destroyed? I’m not economist but this looks like a crap load of wasted money. Now, making permanent content that even new players 2 years from now can play, that’s good investment. Just seems more logic to me.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have temporary content, though. Like seasonal events.
Depends on your return on investment. Does temporary content get people to buy more gem store items or not?
But yeah it’s probably a bit disheartening for a designer to spend weeks on something only to see it enjoyed for a while and then vanish.
Seasonal events are more semi-permanent, as they are temporarily available but do reappear (although not always exactly the same).
On the one hand more interesting mechanics would be nice. On the other I don’t want another Teq. Yeah yeah other people do it all the time I’m sure, I’ve never gotten into a server that could. Something along Marionette is more what I’d like to see. The marionette requires large groups yes, but it didn’t require massive group collaboration, the paths were fairly separate and the mini-bosses were well balanced (I believe, just no one really knew tactics all that well). I think ANet need to experiment with the big group small collaboration model a bit more. Currently we have encounters like shatterer that is no-collaboration or tequatl that requires large scale collaboration.
I’m a poor man, mostly because I simply don’t feel like putting in the effort. Also I salvage all my rares (I have a lot of ectos), bank most of the mats. So I’m probably worth more than I think if I liquidated a bit.
For a while I’d run CoF path 1 and 2, so that would come in at 3 gold or so, AC path 1 and 3 and that would be another 4 gold. This was enough to buy mats for my daily ascended items. If I had enough time the champ train in EoTM could also provide a few gold, but it’s not really all that profitable (you’d still make a few gold).
Unfortunately dungeons and EoTM train get’s boring very very quickly.
A teaser trailer or two won’t be amiss before the big one.
The Pact thinks he’s dead. Their leadership is mostly in Orr, but now they are looking South, to Mordremoth and the other dragons. While operations continue in Orr, the priorities have changed with the assumption(?) that Zhaitan is gone forever and no-one would be expecting an attack from Zhaitan at this point.
You say the Pact being taken down by a new Big Bad is a cliché (clichés are clichés for a reason and the story is full of them no matter what the writers think they are doing – good writing can embrace them and maximise their strengths) but what if it wasn’t the new Big Bad, what if it was the old one? The one we thought was defeated? Start players off by misleading them into thinking Mordremoth is the next threat, then bring back Zhaitan from behind.
All I’m thinking about is: yeah a reason to remake / add a new Zhaitan final battle!
Jormag’s method of corruption differs greatly from the other Elder Dragons’ in that he tries to seduce his would-be victims with promises of power, worthiness, glory, and other things.
Furthermore, corruption has been shown to be an active intention, and not all magic of the Elder Dragon corrupts. For example, the blood of Kralkatorrik as well as a spear made from his spine do not corrupt but are highly magical (as seen in Edge of Destiny). The Sanguinary Blade is actually rather unique in the whole “corruption” part in regards to pieces of the Elder Dragons being used as weapons/objects.
So it isn’t unusual for the tooth to be non-corrupting, even if there’s magic left in it.
Well the Sons have also been shown to be able to force corruption on to others. But yeah in the case of Jormag it seems it needs to be initiated in some way.
Not necessarily. Look how Grothmar hills seemed “normal” before Kralkatorik emerged from it. It was still living dragon body but not corrupted at all. I don’t think the body is the corruption, they seem to choose what they corrupt and how actively.
Well he was asleep and probably at a very very low power state (since EDs lose magic while they sleep). We’ve also seen some examples (especially from Zhaitan) where simply being exposed to relics is enough to start the corruption (with no sign of Zhaitan willing it so).
The gods won’t be back because they don’t fit the game. Human gods in a game of mostly non-human races doesn’t work.
Well the theory proposed here is in fact that they might not be human gods anymore…
Of course I don’t see why not, the humans praise them, the charr dislike them (since they helped the humans to steal there homeland), the asura would find them fascinating, the norn would probably just go on praying to the wind or whatever. Just not sure how the Sylvari would fit in.
Honestly, I’m of the opinion that that’s the way it should be. These are gods, after all, and what separates a god from some very powerful being is that they are somehow beyond mortals- be it beyond mortal lifespan, beyond mortal powers, beyond mortal knowledge, beyond mortal comprehension, any will do, but the more you have, the more that makes them a god. When the defining trait is some sort of mysterious, nebulous “greater-than-thou”- usually referred to as divinity- categories and exact limits shouldn’t be applicable, or they go from being gods to some sort of natural (magical) phenomena, to be scientifically dismantled and filed away like all the rest. Once it’s gotten to that point, there’s really no point to having gods at all.
Yeah, the ambiguity is probably for the best.
6 gods..
6 dragons…
anyone? That’s just coincidence. The Gods have changed frequently. In GW1 there were only five gods, for example. Kormir was just a blind woman that followed you around and threw spears.
Technically there was only 5 known gods… However it seems what defines someone was being a god is their ‘godly-essence’ which can be easily transferred to other being making them gods. Thus one can debate that there essence always exists and that there is always in some form or another 6 of gods (or more that we don’t know about). Unless they can mix-match-split…
One is currently being created by Josh, I believe… not sure which secton thats been psoted at, but maybe you’ll want to check some of the dev comments and see what you can find.
Would be nice if they hand a JP-team which exclusively added more and more JPs separately from living story or other content release schedules.
Glad people gave the name, at least I now know what I don’t know anything about. Which leads me to…
b) Farming system ( this is the main point of me buying alpha pack of A! Plus my guild war 2 game was crash at update since June 2014 patch and need re install, so why not try other game)
Please elaborate (since I’m lazy to look it up). I’m guessing you’re not referring to farming in the more conventional since in regards to MMO?
e) A character creation is better, the face looks very realistic and wide option to choose from
Actually ANet is hiding most of them in the gem-store, specifically in their makeover kits and there exclusive faces/hairstyles.
f) Naval sea ship battle. Because why you no?
Or even better airship battles! Although I have no idea how this AA-game does navel battles.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to succeed a defend event. Instead of making it desirable to let an event fail so you can do the recapture event, they should make it more desirable to have the event succeed. Usually I would say this would be to make the defend event better, but I think in this instance it may be preferable to instead add an alternative that reduces the reliance on the re-capture event.
If they made the defend events comparably difficult to the recapture event and allow the defend event to count for “daily reward” of that temple it would be fine in my opinion. This would be a better alternative to removing them all together. I’d rather see the statues stay inactive rather than having to fight past lyssa or melandru statues all the time. (The other statues are just annoying but not that difficult.)
Pretty much this. Would be nice to have a red post chime in, but this seems more like the thing we’ll only find out about while carefully reading through some future patch notes.
Well technically the new trait system was highly influenced by the Collaborative Development effort. It’s kinda what players wanted.
My problem with the new system are some of the requirements. Why do I need to finish a level 59 personal story step for an adept trait? Or do map completion of a level 70 area for a trait I could use at level 45?
The idea is nice, but the implementation is awful. Make the requirements flow better with the levelling and it’s alright. But scattering the lower level traits all over the world and lock some behind impossible odds for the level they could be used for (and they can be, if, you know, you pay gold) is just not thought through. Or deliberately trying to suck money out of the players pockets, because gems.
Yeah that’s probably a more reasonable and constructive complaint. Also I agree with you in regards to the nice idea but less than optimal implementation. Better fine tuning will always be welcome.
Quick question. The toxic shoulders and gloves…..i can transmute them like all my other gear right? or is it once
Transmuting costs transmutation charges, and you can transmute anything infinitely as long as you got ‘nuff charges. As long as they’re in your wardrobe, that is. Skin consumables don’t require a charge and is only used once, but then they go to your wardrobe for future use after it’s used.
Charges can be gained through the Gem Store, very often as a map completion reward, less often as a daily reward.
The area we added to Obsidian Sanctum was in progress prior to the incident mentioned above
lol, I’m not buying that.
Much like science, you don’t have to believe it for it to be true.
lol I love how anet just bashes people and you guys still play the game. sad story
Not the most tactful, but being a flesh and blood human some annoyance is to be expected especially when having to repeat the same thing several times and being called a liar.
Well apparently Trahearne can raise things that were never alive. Practically I’ve got no idea how that works, but I’m sure it addresses some of those ethical issues.
Right click the name, choose report and choose botting. This will give them access to time, server, character and everything the character is doing at that time. They can’t use a video feed (which can be faked). What they need is metrics from the Guild Wars 2 computers.
This is accurate. We review reports 24/7/365, and hundreds if not thousands of accounts are closed every month, so this is an effective system.
On the one hand I always wondered how ANet decided who was botting or not, a simple fear on my part of being misjudged (I’ve been known to run around in circles for a while trying to get my Slayer achievements). On the other hand of course more transparency in this regards could benefit the botters.
Not a bad theory. But who else is there that worships gods?
That’s the joy’s of the mists (where it seems the gods now reside), we could have all sorts of interesting creatures and races popping up in there.
And at 200 gems per episode, that would be a total of 4000gems or 50usd.
Is Season 1 worth paying 50usd for?
I’d much rather think they’d bundle it all together. Although this is probably months off.
I’m not discussing price at all. Anet clearly stated they will not name any specifics on season one as they do not even have it in development, or any tentative plans as to how they might do so.
You’re not discussing price, sure. Not sure if you can speak for Snowmoon, to whom I replied. Unless you are Snowmoon, in which case I’d probably have to argue with you about that point as very clearly price was being discussed (although more in terms of value than cost).
I don’t think the problem is how to split it into chapters.
The problems are most likely more back end “mechanical” stuff. For example they’ve said Season 2 won’t have meta achievements, instead you’ll be awarded what would have been the meta achievement reward when you finish the storyline. So to convert Season 1 someone would have to go back and rescript the distribution of every single meta achievement item. And possibly put in extra code so people who already got it don’t get duplicates. (Although the wardrobe update and festival giving out past rewards might mean they’re ok with us getting duplicates.)
The easiest solution would probably be to strip out the meta-system they used and implement a new one that’s more in-line with S2. Some of those achievements were open world, or other content that probably won’t fit into the new format. Not sure how they’ll treat the rewards though, some people might take offense if getting rewards becomes too easy, or if once rare drop now become less rare.
I honestly don’t think we will. Reason for me thinking that is that I do not believe they are releasing Season 2 in the model that they are for the money. If/when we do get it I think we will get it during the downtime period in-between seasons.
I’m not sure how ANet internal development works, I’m guessing when one season ends they start working on the next. At present they’ve got no one working on converting S1, so not sure if we’ll see it anytime soon.
Working on 80 number 7. Not really minding the trait acquisition all that much. However I do sometimes feel like I’m just mindlessly grinding levels in the open world (I’ve seen most of what’s out there atleast 4 times already). Probably should just hop onto the EoTM train.
Yeah, seems that NCSoft got what they wanted out of ANet w/ GW2 and used that cash to fund Wildstar. I seem to remember also reading that most of the original GW team/Devs have left the company.
It’s been what, 9 years since the original GW released? 7 years since EoTN? I’d imagine a lot of people probably moved on.
Motherly feelings maybe. Braham is kinda a hopeless sap with mommy issues.
Yeah Rox does seem to like mothering Broham.
Well I’m not sure we can equate the abandonment of the Jotun to the abandonment of the humans (since it also left the Jotun magically powerless, while humans still have similar access to magic). The gods seem to have left Tyria because of Abaddon. The Jotun were abandoned because they were arrogant (or depending on who you ask because the gods feared the Jotun). As for civil war, not in GW2 that I can tell although my knowledge of GW1 is limited (White Mantel perhaps?).
Otherwise it seems possible. The gods are said to have gone into the mist, possibly to find another world, or race. We might very well see them return with their new chosen race (like they did with the humans). Would be ironic if they invaded Divinity’s Reach.
Sure, we know the LS is set after the PS now, but when it first came out, they were tippy toeing around the subject. It confused everyone for a long time, and we really didn’t get full confirmation on the subject until the LS that introduced the marionette fight. (I can’t remember the LS’s name.)
And yes, we do have confirmation that Trahearne is still the Pact’s Marshall. Laranthir of the Wild said he had to get his permission to take an airship to LA, and that he only permission once word got out that Scarlet’s target was an Elder Dragon. That was during the s1 epilogue.
I think ANet tried to have their cake and eat it in terms of the timeline. It always had a ‘after the PS’-feel to it but ANet tried to make it as lightly connected to the PS as possible to prevent confusing. Sure it confused us over here on the forums a bit, but in game (for a while until ANet probably saw that it wasn’t working all that well) it was reasonably possible for most players to not notice this.
Of course once they made it a bit more explicit that the LW is set after PS then people on the forum started asking the sorts of questions that ANet was probably trying to avoid (you know like ‘Where was the Pack?’).
In short, dragon minions don’t like each other and are, at the very least, highly resistant to spreading corruption amongst different factions, to the point where the only cases ever seen of a creature with more than one type of corruption was a custom-made Inquest monster that even they deeply regretted making. The only other life form in Tyria that shows resistance to corruption? The Sylvari.
Which suggests that the Sylvari are already corrupted (or “Branded”). But since they’re guided by the Pale Tree (their “master”) their actions would seem to show that they are not actively working for any elder dragons. They cannot be owned by any of the known elder dragons, but Mordremoth appears to be different.
Well another theory of course goes along the lines that the EDs are a disease and the Sylvari are the cure.
Maybe it’s a S2 spoiler :P
Just a fun thread. I was wondering what everyone rates the classes in terms of how scary they are aesthetically.
I don’t think people know what aesthetically means.
Yes, to both. Although the telegraphs might be orange, as well.
Orange seems to be the new red.
Thanks! Do regular, landscape mobs require that much dodging? I’m not sure if I will run dungeons or not, might just farm landscape to get enough gold to buy gear off the AH, if that’s viable.
Nay. Regular open world mobs have at most 1 or 2 really strong attacks, sure you could theoretically dodge all of their attacks but since you’re limited to only 2 dodges in a row dodging every attack becomes impossible. So you’re at most looking out for those strong attacks and even if you don’t dodge it’s not a big deal.
OK. Do you mostly have to dodge straight back from the mob? Looked like it from the videos. If so, can you set up a hotkey that only takes one key stroke to work?
Well dodging back from a charging abomination won’t be in your favor.
What is the dodge bar??
The yellow bar above your hp
Not to be mean, but doesn’t the game have newbie tutorials?
Not really. A couple of tips here and there.
The Nightmare Court were totally chill with the toxic offshoot, from what we’ve heard-
I doubt that there’d be any edicts or even any consensus from the court one way for another. The court has it’s factions and seems to have internal rivalries, so I’d say that the toxic courtiers are probably another faction.
Well that and after Nightmare Arbor we pretty much killed most of the top people in charge.
A strong introduction is fine. IMO, if they say had the commander lead a GROUP of the Pact to the new dragon’s awakening, hoping to kill it before it rises fully, and that group gets destroyed and the commander (aka player) sees a dragon rising firsthand, and escapes with the survivors.
Well a bit of back and forth would be nice for a change. Although the PS was suppose to portray a up hill battle against Zhaitan, practically we tended to end each PS instance with a resounding victory. Small defeats would be nice, even perhaps the pack teetering on defeat (a better climax than the PS story where Zhaitan was pretty much already beaten and we were just busy hammering the last nail into his coffin).
leveling alts.

This. Passing the time until S2
I prefer the die-revive-try-again model myself. Death should be an acknowledgement of my failure and the prelude to another attempt to overcome the challenge (too bad GW2 has little of this, but think about how single player games handle safe points).
Well I don’t know. It all comes don to player reactions.
Will players view this as ANet attempting to squeeze money out of them (some think the current gem model of vanity items is already doing this…)?
Will players view this as ANet hiding the good stuff behind a pay wall (so those that pay get the premium content)?
Will new players view this a hidden costs (i.e. oh I just purchased it and now I need to pay more $$$)?
Solo/5-man/open world is kinda already what we got and what we can expect more of. Although I guess in terms of 5-man there hasn’t been that much going on there, last update was a couple of fractals. Would be nice to see some more world dungeons, but I’d rather see some work being done on current dungeons than them adding more dungeons (since so many current dungeons go practically unplayed).
what if they made a fractal path based in “pre-destroyed” orr?
would love to see that
Personally I think the actuality will not live up to players imagination.
There will always be a struggle between lore and game mechanics.
The Pact being destroyed at the beginning of a new arc because of a new BIG BAD (Morde, not saying he’s a cliche but using him in this way would make him more cliche) is a terrible cliche. Please don’t listen to this, Anet.
Well ANet would be skirting with the worf effect. Still a strong introduction is still in my mind a must.
