Well, the ED’s aren’t created equal. each one has it’s own strength. So each one would have it’s own weakness. A MM’s weakness would be directly attacking it. But that’s what the devs said. Their power is comparable. I doubt the ED’s would just be no threat at all to them. We’ve known they were killable back in GW1 though.
EDs seem to have varying power levels, when they wake up they’re weak and then slowly become more powerful as they consume more of the worlds magic.
But do we know that having too much magic is a bad thing?
They devour new content much faster than it can be developed anyway.
Only sandpark MMOs are able to overcome this by completely removing the need to constantly add more and more content. All themepark MMOs suffer from the same problem. This is why games like WoW will implement Raids which provide not so much in the way of new content but sufficient difficulty for most guilds to constantly struggle through the same content sufficiently to make it seem like more content than it actually is.
Im happy with the way it is. If they dont change a thing I will be here. All I am asking is that if they are to spend any time in development, do it for those of us that already like the game, not for those that will be threatening to leave again inside a month of new content being delivered.
Oh lets not go down the road of preferential content development, because those who like the game are infinitely less meaningful then those who buy gems with real money. Those two groups are not necessarily the same.
+1 All reasonable and desirable QoL changes.
the new trait system is h o r r i b l e
By that he means more engaging, but terribly frustrating for anyone who levels his char exclusively through crafting/boss blitz leeching/dungeoneering. So, as long as you like exploration you are better off.
yeah, power leveling is a bit more tricky. Leveling is still easy, it’s just that you have to unlock traits by doing more than grinding a single aspect of play to quickly level.
I have to agree with OP, whenever I come 5 minutes before to tequatl or wurm it’s always to one of the instances with inadequate players counts. The issue is not with the max number of people but with the fact that you’re more likely to end up in a under populated instance with a lower likelihood of success.
You’re closing the discussion to those won’t don’t have the same opinion as you, not sure that’s a really healthy way of using a forum.
On the bright side, he won’t have to deal with that pesky cognitive dissonance.
Don’t see how any of us could force or sway ArenaNet or NCsoft to do anything other than what they want to do. We can choose to give feedback. We can choose to buy or not buy from the gem store. We can choose to play or not to play. Outside of that there isn’t much we can do.
Actually no, fractals, ascended gear, 2 week living world content, permanent living world content etc. are all examples of players influencing ANet. ANet is actually open to giving players what they want (as long as it’s not completely silly).
Gemstore on other hand, ANet gains very little from it. Most of the profit goes to NCsoft, who will use the money, along with the money from other games “store profits” along the % of published games sales, to produce and publish games they want, not necessarily use it on GW2 expansions.
That is the assumption, but no actual proof exists either way.
At the end of the day i think its the players who use these forms to promote there own selfish wants onto an entire player base is more want the game needed saving from then any thing else.
People who are happy with the game play the game, the rest either leave or post things like this about how bad GW2 is or how it’s dying.
Only ANet can save this game. But they need to listen to us to do that.
What group of ‘us’ should they listen to? After all, the entire community will never agree on what is the best way to address an issue.
Theory of mind is not very common among people I’m afraid.
To OP, I don’t get it why I am not allowed to say that I don’t agree with you and also show Anet that I do not agree with your view of whats good or bad.
Cognitive dissonance from wikipedia: In psychology, cognitive dissonance is the excessive mental stress and discomfort experienced by an individual who (1) holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time or (2) is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values
I think number 2 is most relevant here.
Anet needs to COMMUNICATE !
They merge and create threads for Feedback, then nothing at all., example the Traits Feedback thread, 29 pages and NO Anet comment since they created it !
I feel so too, but at the same time all ANets communications seem to fall on deaf ears or just lead to player exaggeration and complaining. For ANet communication is a pointless effort that just leads to more complaining, so why do it? Just release content and see how players react.
Although if the original assumption was true it would be a funny conversation with the pale tree:
“Thank you for killing Zhaitan and all, but actually your dream meant you had to kill Mordremoth. I released this before, but I felt a bit awkward telling you since you were already fighting Zhaitan… and then that stuff with Scarlet…”.
With the new megaserver you will not come across a zone that does not have activity. So does not really matter what the numbers are.
I can almost guarantee you’ll find zones practically deserted . . . I think Timberline Falls is one place which can be expected to have minimal player presence. Almost would add Straits of Destruction there too.
Will always have people in low level areas and high level areas, however mid level areas most people are just passing through from low to high level.
1. Kill off both humans
2. Replace them with Tybalt.
3. ???
4. Profit
So Risen Tybalt then? Hey guess that would be interesting, if somewhat awkward when he starts chewing on someone’s leg.
One too many humans. One must die.
Destiny’s Edge had two asura.
1. Kill off both humans
2. Replace them with Tybalt.
3. ???
4. ProfitI don’t know how to break this to you, but.. that won’t happen.
Or… zombie cat who likes apples.
Why Asura cannot be the bloodthirsty brute? Why Norn cannot be the genious, mastermind, spy (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Sigismund_Dijkstra – Look how this character looks and been crafted by Sapkowski). Why Charr cannot be the charming character of the band, and Human ladies treacherous, uglier, less cute&cuddle, stronger and merciless?
The irony of course is that the exact opposite of the stereotype is also a stereotype. Or it should be, the number of wizard dwarves and barbarian elves are well staggering.
Rox, is a Charr who is quite paranoid, uncertain and insecure. Traits that not many Charr have.
I’ve always felt that the general attitude of most Charr clearly indicate underlying uncertainties and insecurities. Secure people tend to need external self reinforcement less often.
My only concern about the Triad is that ArenaNet currently has three badly written and/or portrayed alliances, and those were all just two groups, which should in theory be simpler than a triad.
I have to disagree with you, they weren’t badly written, they weren’t written at all. They showed up with no explanation in game as to where they came from, who they were or anything. The triad we already have in-game details about them.
Even when awake, it seems to be the champions controlling minions, never the Elder Dragons themselves. With no champion, all minions are mindless (or next to) and have a single tactic: “swarm them!”
For my daily today I did the forging the pack personal story and this can be seen in there as well, characters specifically note that the Risen demonstrate better tactics, and at the end a wraith is revealed. Just not necessarily sure it’s only the champions, it seems lieutenants also demonstrate some intelligence. But yeah run of the mill is pretty much make-stuff-dead.
Many people, including myself, feel that dungeons are too easy and the speed run style of skipping from boss to boss that is widely implemented is kind of bemindering most of the cool stuff you guys put in dungeons.
Path of least resistance, players will always find ways to do it easier, it’s why some paths and some dungeons are practically never run.
But I agree that a hard mode would be interesting. At least it might not be too resource intensive to implement (since I’d image it might be mostly damage / health tweaking with a few new mechanics here and there).
If you read instead of overreacting…
English isn’t everyone’s first language, and even when it is words can be tricky sometimes.
You never know where you might find cool things. http://guildwars2.tumblr.com/
These are the sort of things we need more of
Well either the homes are an indoor instance or a outdoor + indoor instance but that would require a system like Avascar is purposing. The problem with outdoor instances is that some people have very bad taste… and it’s technically more complicated. So I’d image we’d have rather a since in-door instance. Although a choice would be nice, since an indoor garden would be odd. Also my thief would be more comfortable with a camp site (but that’ll just create more technical difficulty for little gain).
We can look at the current home instance and look at what is right and wrong. Some of the issues: limited/no customization (the mining nodes were a step in the right direction), changes weren’t easily noticeable (personal story would introduce new characters but most players didn’t notice this), no reason to really go there (well nodes helped a bit).
Customisation would be one of the core things you’d have to include. There are plenty of other good ideas (such as mini-events or activities) but at it’s core you’d want to allow for the same personalisation as you can do to your characters (so your home can have a personality matching your character). So things like furniture, coloring / wall textures and in-game achievable trophies would be the easiest way of doing this.
The size and layout is an interesting consideration. Will everyone have the same indoor layout or will we be able to define this? We could start out with a small-ish room and then spend gold to expand, add more rooms, a window, a fireplace etc. To a certain extent of course, we don’t want a single instance crashing servers because of the number of rooms. Would rooms only scale horizontally but also vertically (for those that want a wizards tower)?
New rooms could possibly have themes. A armoury (where you could have a number of mannequins you could store armour templates on or where you could hang your legendaries for bragging purposes). A gallery could depict some of your achievements (a portrait of you standing on a mountain of Jotun for your Jotun slaying achievement).
I’ve got lag sometimes too, but that’s mostly my ISP and the fact that I’m playing on servers that are literally half the world away. I don’t think you can really blame ANet for it, the only issue on ANet’s side that I can image is that since they’re using virtualisation and most likely passing those images around it’s likely that you might end up on a server which does not have an optimal routing path (this is clear since 1 zone might have lag while the other zone is perfectly fine).
Only fail in megaserver, is that the sorting seems to never work.
Yeah, this seems to be part of the problem. The criteria for selecting a server instance requires some refining and probably doesn’t take latency into account (or at least not as a major factor). Although since the sorting algorithm is probably categorised as ‘best practice’ or some other fuzzy IP term we’ll never full know the algorithm and the variables being checked.
I feel if you Anet and the GW2 game was available on steam it would have create a lot more purchases of the game. I’d also like to have it as a official Steam related game so that I can monitor my play time and statistics about the game easily. Would also be nice if they did achievements in the game, since it would make me want to play more to get the steam achievements.
Just an idea…
Yours Sincerely,
A former GW2 player.
Well I so rarely place value on the comments of self proclaimed former players, especially if they have only a single post.
However the question is interesting enough since it does seem somewhat beneficial, no? Why wouldn’t ANet put GW2 on steam? Is there a cost? Would Valve want a big piece of the pie? Is Valve a bit restrictive?
GW2 events tend to show the current game world
Very much this. Dynamic events are great at representing the world as is but not so good as presenting much in the way of narrative or lore. So we get a ‘feel’ for the world, for the people and how they get along together, but we don’t get much in the way of narrative or history.
(edited by CureForLiving.5360)
I say Triad for the first few releases. We currently have a same human bandits attempting to hawk their goods at the Bazaar, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them planted some explosive as well.
I don’t think there are any strong examples of interracial relationships in lore, but it is possible. I think the most we have gotten is one-sided attractions. No children would ever come from those relationships though. We do have dev confirmation on that part.
They probably could get kids actually, only those kids would be infertile, like a donkey+horse=a mule(infertile)
No, actually Anet explicitly said before GW2 release that (at least as of GW2 depending on your viewpoint), there is no such thing as a halfbreed.
No half-norn, half humans exist in GW2. No half norn/half charr. It’s impossible.
Rather it’s naturally impossible. Just wait for the future Living World release where a army of Inquest Half-Char/Asura warriors are released on the world of Tyria!
You mean there were no victories, just like in the real world?
I don’t know what "real world" you’re referring to, but in the actual real world people win and lose all the time.
*Insert cynical comment about the unconquerable nature of time and the inevitability of death (maybe a Thor vs Elli reference?)*
I do get where you’re coming from, we won some and we lost some. Inevitably we mostly played a defensive game, minimizing Scarlet’s damage by beating back her various machinations. However in the Personal Story we basically won ever single time, so maybe ANet tried to do it differently in S1. Hopefully in S2 we get more meaningful victories.
Well looking at the trailer a couple of times I’m expecting a decent focus on the story. Taimi falling into Mr Sparkles as the sand storm hits, Rox and Broham walking off into the distance, all looks like cinematic sequences.
As for content wise, a new zone (or several, hopefully). But other than that I’m really not sure what to expect. A new race is most likely not going to happen (or if it does I’d be extremely surprised), if we’re lucky a couple of decent non-gem-store additions to the wardrobe.
EDIT:
- DE 2.0 sucking all of the air out of the room
– “Collect 150 drill fragments from the rubble in Lion’s Arch” achievement
– a whole lot of bugs
– “new items in the cash shop!”.^Lots of posts like this no matter what
Usually best just to ignore those posts, since you can’t really do anything about them.
I mulled this over, and isn’t there already a some darkness in the story? More recently there was the battle of LA which pretty much was a genocide. The flame legion do have those breeding camp. The nightmare court routinely torture for fun, the inquest aren’t much better.
The problem is not the need for a darker narrative (plenty of that already), it’s the depiction of it in game. But we have the rating issue…
Darker writing is basically the norm nowadays. I’m quite uneasy about this trend as it does reflect just how grim and dire our entire civilization’s becoming
Oh nothing so dreary. It’s basically appealing to teenage boys and people that think dark and edgy is cool and mature. Kids entertainment is usually characterized by joy, bright colors, and singing and dancing. When people reach that age where they try to distance themselves from ‘childish-things’ they go a complete 180. Eventually levels out when they have to start paying the morgues. I went through that phase too, wore a lot black, listened to a lot of heavy metal. I guess I still do those things, but I’m not really of the opinion that darker is necessarily better.
The Biconics fail to shine because the world around them is already very bright. Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead – these are dark worlds full of injustice and horror.
It’s not the dark world, its the characters that inhabit it.
Any story will always have some sort of conflict (it would be very very boring otherwise) and it’s how characters act and react that the entertainment value comes from.
A dark world can produce these sorts of conflicts but stranding someone on top of a mountain and forcing them to make the hard choices (as one does in Walking Dead) can produce the same conflict and in such a case I wouldn’t say the work is necessarily dark. The situation is dark and it gives rise to conflicts. But how about a happy person living a happy life that gets cancer, the lightness of the world thus acts to emphasis the conflict the person has to deal with and might act to emphasis some aspects of the story.
Walking dead also had the advantage of interactivity, it’s you that make those choices and has to live with the consequences (or the illusion of consequences, since the choices don’t really matter).
Currently the living story has us following the biconics around and passively viewing the narrative. This is problematic because video games are interactive. Series like Game of Thrones are passive narrative as well, but Game of Thrones also has like 30 minutes of dialogue in the average episodes (sometimes the entire episode is people talking) to characterize and make us care about the characters and thus care about how they deal with the central conflict. For example Tyrion is an interesting character not because he’s short, but because of how he reacts to it, because of how other’s react and he interacts with them.
Unfortunately since we have limited interaction and limited control over events we have a limited investment, and because practically it’s impossible to give us the necessary amount of passive dialogue (and undesirable, see peoples reactions to Metal Gear Solid) we also don’t care too much about the characters (necessarily).
So my thinking is, either more characterization (which might be possible with the new LW format which separates story instances) or more meaningful choices (but since this is a MMO with static world… unlikely).
Unpolished? You mean unpolished as in buggy or unpolished as in missing content? There has been some buggy releases (although ANet usually fixed it quickly enough), but I’m not sure if they ever had particularly lack-luster releases (well the first few were a bit meh).
any chance we will be seeing Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings again?
Well the shattered wings were a bit more ‘exclusive’ then that normal wings (i.e. you basically had to RND yourself into a pair if I remember correctly) and thus ANet might be a bit more hesitant to release it. But me since I have a pair I’ve got no problem with that, as long as they release some of those other ‘exclusive’ RND items.
You mean Faolin? Thought she died but rechecking the story I seems she just ran away. So much like the other dungeon stories pretty much stuck in limbo (I really really want to see what happens next in the Ascalonian Catacombs, you know where spoiler they were busy curing the foefire!).
However since Canach is Living World character we’ll very very likely be seeing him very soon. Currently in lore he was captured put in prison but in a prison release program (i.e. pretty much slavery) his billet was sold to some noble person meaning that he’s no working for said noble person.
Dailies, leveling alts, doing dungions, things I don’t get to do when the LS is on, as I get get a lot of time to play.
Leveled like 4 80s since the last major release. Boy I’ve gotten to the point where I’m alt-burned-out. Although I will admit having strategically placed alts do help in the dailies.
The title in itself “gates to maguma” suggest opening an area we have yet to enter.
Pretty much my thoughts on the matter. That or ANet be trolling hard.
Well one of the major complaints from S1 (well ok there were so many complaints it’s hard to actually measure the actual value or merits of the complaints) was that ANet didn’t add expansion type content (under which new areas usually get grouped).
It’s said that Charrs have the most deadly, military-focused technology. It’s not pretty and flashy, but raw power of steel, cruelty and efficiency. Charrs have tanks, scorpions, alpha-version of helicopters, bombs and much more.
Maybe next time when it comes to tech, instead of that “magical lasers” and other kid stuff, pull out long-forgotten Charr non-magical machinery ?
Oh as a charr fan I would love this, being able to actually see the charr military at work (which we don’t actually see in game, all we see is small warbands at work). With the homogeneous groups (Packs, Orders, LA etc.) we get to see so little of the cultural personality (well except Asura, but they’re a bit cliche mad scientists most of the time just being wedge in to do mad scientist stuff). We perhaps get a bit of flavor text here and there but I’d personally like to see Charr interacting with Charr fighting a Charr-style battle.
Thank you for the prompt responses guys! Just another curiosity of mine.. between the EU and NA servers, which is the more populated one?
I’m on EU and it seems populated enough. But for me the choice was mostly one of which would give me better latency.
Not sure why we needed a different thread but I’ll go with it.
Why Does The Pale Tree Produce Sylvari And Sylvan Hounds?
Working theory A she’s basing the sylvari off of Ronan’s body. Doesn’t explain the dogs but yeah.
My theory: functionality. Producing humanoid plants in a world dominated by humanoid creatures seems like a good idea (imagine how well the piece between humans and sylvari would have gone if the sylvari were grotesque monsters). Also a human form is fairly useful, small delicate fingers for fine manipulation, tall upright stance to see over the long grass, eye’s in the front of the head to provide better 3D vision. The hounds are much the same, the dog form and abilities have a useful role to play. I’d imagine that the pale tree could create all manner of different plant creatures.
Could it be possible that the Dream has something to do with ensuring the reproductive success of sylvari? This same Dream may ensure not only that 1) the tree produces larger yields of seeds each year but also that 2) those same seeds spread as far and wide across the face of Tyria as they can (via Hunts, whether Wyld or Dark), in order to ensure the maximum possible chance of successfully producing another oak tree.
Firstly the nature of the dream is not understood. So it’s all speculation. We have reason to believe that the dream is not all that common among Sylvari from other trees. But I don’t think the dream helps with reproduction (in any conventional sense). The dream does provide a very useful function in that when Sylvari are born they’re in possession of all the basic knowledge needed to live and function (i.e. they can walk and talk and everything). The dream also acts as a unconscious link among Sylvari, meaning that as Sylvari experience new things the dream becomes enriched and new Sylvari are better able to survive when they’re born.
Although we don’t have any conclusive proof that Sylvari are seeds for all we know they’re just organism the tree produces to help care for it (maybe it only starts creating seeds when it’s a 1000 years old).
Just as importantly, the Tower was big enough to produce a massive taproot – a taproot that might have been as big as that of the Pale Tree, reaching deep into the ground to a source of magic which the Pale Tree may also have access to.
Interesting theory. We do know that one of the goals of the Tower was to produce hybrids and poison. As for it tapping into ley-lines I don’t know. I’d always assumed the Tower was mostly there to ensure that the Krait would be willing to aid her (i.e. I give you a prophet you work for me) and that if an army of hybrids could be produced (along with some dangerous poisons) then all the better for her.

i dont cry for attention, i didnt even know people knew me. LOL u think making a complaint is asking for attention? well arent u easily subdued.
I am sorry to say, but making non-constructive “feedback” (complaints) on forums hardly helps you.
Depends on how you define help. Clearly he seems to be getting off on everyone talking to and about him so yeah…
Summer is here…
You north-equator-centrism-minded-people.
Yes, we need some middle ground between 5 man dungeons and 150+ world bosses.
So 77 man?
Just joking, but a 10 man wouldn’t be too bad. Just as long as it doesn’t go the raid way.
I wouldn’t mind getting me some of that phantom hood…
On another note, was Scarlet’s body ever recovered?
Good question especially since it was looking kinda corrupted at the end there. Maybe we’ll have an evil/crazy pale tree in LA in a few hundred years…
I doubt most people were watching GoT for the Dragons. Ahem.
Exactly, where’s the zombie army?! Keep teasing us but never delivering.
The issue seems to be new armor. Because of the variety in races it’s more time consuming to make armor (since you have to make one for each race, and also each gender oddly enough). So a lot of new armor was relegated to the gem store in order to justify the effort required to make them (and as we know since this is B2P there’s no monetary input other than gems). Creating back-pieces are easy since you can create basically 1 item and it’ll fit all the races.
So my guess is that a lot of armors (themed to the LW updates) got thought up but never implemented.
What are we really likely to get?
More kittening, negativity, and bile on here….
…oh look, it’s already started XD
Well, yeah, at least till Anet follows through with what they say.
Yeah, right.
After watching the latest Tara Strong video, im guessing more Scarlet.
They obviously want to prepare us for that, otherwise why show that video now rite?
They’ve released a bunch of retrospective news / items. The next one’s coming on the 23rd. It’s really just some fluff between now and when S2 starts. (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-points-of-interest/ look to the right you’ll see a little box).
Honestly, even if they gave us 6 zones out in Wastes, a dozen new story missions, a new JP per map, a new in game armor skin per tier, and 60 new DEs per zone, people would still kitten. It still wouldn’t be ‘good enough.’ Nothing ever is any more. Its all “me me me, more more more!”
I’m glad someone gets it. You just can’t make everyone happy, you give them apples then the lemon-crowd is unhappy, you give them lemons then the apple crowd is up in arms. You give them lemons and apples, well don’t you know it the pineapple people aren’t happy.
^
nawh, kids aren’t allowed to fight in kids games… her golem, scruffy, did that
Actually she pilots the golem.
Probably nothing big. We’ll most likely slowly build up toward the exciting stuff (think Season 1).
Yes, currently the oldest Sylvari is 26~27 years old, and Scarlet wasn’t a Firstborn, so being a “teenager” as a Sylvari is kinda tricky to say.
The advantage / disadvantage of being born full grown and showing now signs of aging. A Sylvari that’s 1 hour old looks no difference than one that’s 20.
All the suggestions are good, however ANet hasn’t given any indication that they’ll do anything more than possibly adding a few more guild missions.
On the bright side, at least now ascended stuff is account bound, so you can give the other ring to an alt.
Actually they were account-bound (possibly bind on equip as well but not sure) for a while now. I know since I made exactly the same mistake some months ago, luckily I’ve got alts :P
His Wyld Hunt has just begun, actually. I agree that he has no real part in the direction the story will take us, the players, but disagree that he’ll be axed.
Trahearne’s Wyld Hunt is to restore the land of Orr. He knows where to begin (the Source of Orr), and we have eliminated the obstacle stopping his efforts (Zhaitan), but he’s got a LONG road ahead of him. (In the super-hypothetical GW3, in which Orr is thriving again, he’ll probably be credited with its restoration – along with props to the “Pact Commander” for destroying Zhaitan.)
That’s actually a good point. Either Trahearne will stay in Orr to help cleanse it or he’ll be: “Meh cleansed the source, that’s fine. Off to the next dragons!”
The Pale Tree talks later about your character fighting Zhaitan, but the dragon in the dream looks nothing like one of Zhaitan’s minions.
Counter argument: it’s a dream so the dragon was a metaphor. Your new little sylvari mind attempting to wrap itself around the wyld hunt with a limited frame of reference.
He summons nightmare hounds, and his appearance seems to indicate that he is a servant of Mordremoth, not Zhaitan.
We honestly know nothing about Mordy. The working theory is that he’s a plant-eque ED, but that’s based on on the color green, as in that one area in Crucible of Eternity.
They’ve been needing a weekly for some time now, when they started the daily system we suggested that too, which ended up in the suggestions trashbin. Since the CDIs have ceased I hold little hope for this game’s future since it appears obvious that what the customer wants is not the goal.
No need to be too negative.
The issue was that the suggestion forum was to wild and all over the place. The CDIs were specific and to the point, and unfortunately only useful when ANet wanted specific feedback on specific things. Having a suggestion forum was probably more for our sense of ease than anything practical (which is why I still find it odd that they removed it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placebo_button). The issue then with the CDI is that when ANet has a pretty good idea (or feeling they have a good idea) about what to do or about what players want there’s no need for them to implement the CDI. There’s literally people being paid to monitor these (and other) forums and aggregate players opinions and view. Because they don’t use the CDI (because they don’t feel it necessary) then opinions like yours arises because you don’t perceive that anythings going on (probably not helped by ANet being so very silent most of the time, although I like to think it’s because they’re working to make the game better).
