Why not start by going to the people who have already committed themselves to fighting the dragons: The Pact and Destiny’s Edge? They should be interested regardless of anything we do, as far as I know everyone in our group gets along with them (and our characters are a member of one Order and a Commander in the Pact).
Trahearne sends you a letter, he’s coming to the summit so there’s no real need to do a fetch quest to get the Pack on-board since they already are.
I’m still confused why its such a hassle for the leaders to meet. Its probably quicker even with Asura Gates to get to the Grove than it is to walk to the next zone for them. Phlunt prob would have taken far longer getting to Dry Top.
Not really seeing a reason why they would be so inconvenienced
Bureaucracy.
I think what’s annoying about the summit is it’s made to sound like some monsterous task when the personal story basically has us unite the races of Tyria to fight Zhaitan.
We don’t unite the races we unite the Packs. Yeah I know semantics (since the Packs are partially supported by the various nations) but the Packs don’t consist of the armed forces of the various nations.
We get them together so the dragon can attack them all at once.
Because we’re subtly under the influence of Mordy after going into Omadd’s machine!
Why can’t we just accept out new Dragon overlords? I welcome them!
I for one welcome our new plant-based overlord.
If it DOESN’T wear off, and this is the happy family moment, then I’m going to be disappointed. I don’t mind if he starts to see her in a new light, but this is too much of a jump for all at once.
This. I think this is a step in the right direction but deep emotional issues such as these should disappear overnight. Braham is finally seeing Eir as a warrior, but that’s a long way from forgiving her for being an absent mother.
As per Marjory role in this. I am concerned. Is it beyond a an Elder Dragon to use Marjory’s grief against her and try to corrupt her, making her an enemy to us or… perhaps, would she sorta… snap and lose her mind she she may feel responsible for this?
Mordy does seem to like driving people mad…
Marjory isn’t a plant. So far, we’ve only seen corrupted plants and sylvari. It’s fairly safe to say that at least one of the following are true:
- Mordremoth can only corrupt plant-like creatures.
- Mordremoth doesn’t really give a kitten about one, insignificant human
There’s some ambiguity in the Pale Trees words (imaged attached). Although all present evidence seems to indicate this (although the mordem hounds do seem to have skeletons).
Maybe that’s exactly what we need. After all, what does the Forgotten ritual actually entail besides splitting up into a couple different blue circles? Perhaps the NPC actually performing it isn’t doing anything but sending hugs, cuddles, and happy thoughts to that undead chicken and that’s what cures it.
Letter to the Pack from the Commander: Note change of tactics on the Orr front. Please relinquish any rifles, pistols, swords, hammers or any other tool of war. From now on hugs are to be distributed to all remaining Risen. Happy thoughts are highly recommended and cuddles are to be used as a last resort.
PS. I nominate Trahearne to personally spearhead this operation.
Integrating the Living World Story with open world events I actually think wasn’t that bad of an idea, at the very least it has the potential of stretching out the gameplay and having us revisit some old familiar places. But yes the means by which is was integrated was a bit flat, go here do this events you’re finished, go there repeat. Instances have a bit more narrative, talking, exploration etc. while the open world doesn’t provide the same depth.
They did add a few NPCs to give us some dialog, however it wasn’t really all that gripping. “Grr Vines bad, grab flamethrower and kill stuff”. So I guess the problem was that the text was too instructional or to the point rather, no flavor.
But I wouldn’t call it lackluster, as these content patches are a bit too multifaceted to give a single blanket review.
The Pale Tree being all secretive was annoying (I was expecting a big reveal after the end of Episode 2), Rytlock’s sub-plot was a bit predictable (although I’m hoping Part 2 follows up on that a bit), would have liked another piece of Dry Top but it wasn’t really that big of a deal since I know more is coming (although at the rate of release we’ll probably see maybe 2 zones, 3 if we’re really really lucky). The open world content was fun but not particularly long-term-entertainment.
Rytlock didn’t expect his actions in the tomb to break the entire curse. His sole purpose of going into the tomb was to test his theory about the sword, before attempting to break the curse at its source.
And then the a portal opened to what is assumed to be the mists sucking Rytlock, the sword and a bunch of ghosts with them.
Well I guess it does sort of make sense, the mists is sort of where the afterlife is located so breaking the curse would have sent all those spirits to the mists.
Lets be honest. Rytlock failed because anet is too lazy to do something as ballsy as to remove most of the Ascalon ghosts.
I don’t think lazy is the correct word. Certainly it would take a lot of effort to revamp Ascalon, probably months worth of effort…
The Mordrem are following the Leylines and seeking out sources of magic. The Brand is probably a major source of magic for Mordremoth. Seems fairly straightforward.
Dragon on dragon violence is always so ugly. Can’t the Elder Dragons just get along?!
In another myth, when one of the Gods (Thor) kills the midguard serpent, the world ends, and all the Gods and Giants die. Only the Aesir (Elves), survive.
Aesir aren’t elves, since elves originate in Norse mythology elves are elves. Trolls might be dwarves though… Well it’s important to remember that most of Norse Mythology was captured during the 12th century well into the Christianizing of Europe (so accurately is iffy).
Well Scarlet did give him a nice leyline breakfast, so that might have helped. However in terms of strengths we’ve not seen Mordy being all dangerous yet. All he’s done is spawn a couple of mobs in Dry Top, wrap his tentacles around some waypoints and send a little invasion force to ascalon (although not a particularly big one).
Yet life seems goes on unfazed, and all the race-leaders are small-minded naive children, who won’t listen to us despite our very established title (assuming the completion of the personal story) or even personal friendships with them until we play fetch-quest for them.
Seeing as how everyone is constantly being attacked I’m guessing they’re somewhat desensitized. In fact the only race not actively being attacked by dragon minions is the humans and they’ve got centaur hordes trying to kill them. Norn are busy fighting off the Icebrood, the Charr are fighting ghosts and branded, the Sylvari are fighting Nightmare Court and Risen and the Asura are fighting Inquest and a couple of risen as well. It’s hard to redirect your military forces from an active threat to an possible future threat.
Maybe they are going to add it in-game like was suggested.
This would be awesome. However what I’m thinking is that with the change to permanent LW content, and because this was at most a side project from the beginning it probably didn’t have much support this no longer became important. ANet wasn’t updating it, adding it in-game would still mean it an in-game feature that won’t be updated.
Hopefully I’m wrong.
First person view has been suggestion since launch, so probably not going to happen anytime soon. Would love to see it though…
To answer the titular question: not the kinda you want.
I mean, everyday i can read an incredible amount of GOOD suggestion that could really improve the games, like new pvp mode .. ideas for new weapons…
And many complaint about for ex: craftable precursor.. new dungeon or areas…I’m here from 25/08/2012 and i can see the SAME posts been posted over and over every day from almost 2 years… with hundreds views and hundred likes (does that means OP is not alone and player actually wants this things?)
A counter argument could be that those ideas which appear hundreds of times aren’t very good, and as such are ignored because they aren’t very good.
BUT, the point is… not a single suggestion has ever been implemented ingame, they just go straight in their direction.. am i supposed to think they are not listening? or rather they are listening but they don’t care?
Well other than fractals, ascended gear, the tequatl revamp, Southsun, skill acquisition changes, megaserver, wardrobe, account wallet, account dye, combining pvp and pve wardrobes… and several other’s I’m sure. Maybe it’s more accurate to say that the ideas you like haven’t been implemented.
…So it is impractical to try to link the Fractals with anything in Tyria, unless specifically looking for something. I can’t fathom how we were capable of picking on the trail of Scarlet if the Mists are that dynamic.
The mists is the building blocks of reality, so it has the ability to become anything (more or less). However as Tyria is made up of the mists and it’s pretty stable it would probably be more accurate to say that the mist doesn’t have set dynamics. Some areas are very stable and others are significantly less so.
Well this is my hope as well, although proper characterization can be complicated and difficult. How many different dialogs would a single character require? A good, neutral and bad response? Well there’s 10 different personality types so obviously not that many. But whatever number you’d have to multiply it for each race and each gender. So even if they sort of the technicalities of getting the PC to talk you’d still probably only see a one or a very limited number of dialog options appearing.
However we could see more branching in the purely text-based dialog (which I find odd that we don’t already have). Although the text-interface isn’t particularly well designed for something like that (or maybe I’ve just been spoiled with those Mass Effect style dialogue rings). Of course there’s also the question about the the value of giving us response options, that is to say what impact would it have? It’s not as if ANet has the time or manpower to create multiple paths of progression through the Living World episodes and still release a new episode every 2 weeks.
So yeah, I’d love to see this but I’m not going to hold my breath on getting this sort of a system to any sort of large scale. I guess that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss the sorts of systems we’d like however.
My guess is that the pale tree and the sylvari are minions of the jungle dragon. But the pale tree was able to break free from it like poor Glinth did.
She didn’t break free so much as she was broken free. The question then becomes who broke the Pale Tree free?
My other theorie is that the sylvari and the pale tree are the answear of Tyria itself to the dragons. But this only based on what i saw in the Eternal Alchemy.
Possible, with the ED cycle taking place every 10,000 years a lot of knowledge has been lost. You would probably have expected some of the dwarves or jotun to have some vague rumors of plant people standing with them against the EDs though.
who “mothered” the “mother” and so on.
A wizard did it, with magic! Eh no one knows…
Now, how would Malyck, the seed in a dark cave, linger in the dream? When would the dream have witnessed a seed in a dark cave?
It’s possible that the dream precedes the existence of the Sylvari and has the ability (like to the mists) to capture, record and represent the past.
From what we know of the EDs their awakening occurs when they’re hungry. They can be woken up sooner (although the means seems to vary) but for the most part they sleep until the magic tank is empty and then they wake up.
Another thing. Where is the cave?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ronan
Ronan was a member of the shining blades during the Krytan civil war, given the nature of civil wars (they tend to take place in the civilisation that’s civil warring) somewhere in or around Kryta (he did wander off a bit though but he couldn’t have gone too far). That’s as far as I know in anycase.
It was never going to work anyway. He wasn’t the rightful king.
But he did have the crown :P
Also how do we know it didn’t work, maybe Rytlock is in the mists right now completing phase B through D of the curse breaking ritual.
isn’t he in the wrong place to lift the curse? It states it has to be lifted in Ascalon City. You would think the best place to lift the curse would be the place where the curse was first cast since that would be the strongest spot
True, but if iirc, Rytlock did say that the tomb was a place of power and a good place to “test” if his plan would work…
Which it did sort of, a lot of ghosts were apparently permanently destroyed.
Atlas was a nice idea but unfortunately to be done correctly requires constant input and work. Since ANet is in the business of video games it probably died down because it was a side project no one hand time for (although honestly even though it’s not part of the core business things like this really help the overall feel and player involvement).
I have a Royal Terrace Pass (which I love), so the using the Home Portal Stone would be of little use to me (other than gathering). But….the ability to port back to where you were? That’s attractive!
(Still, I doubt I would buy one anytime soon, if ever.)
I’ve got a airship pass so a portal stone wouldn’t be too bad. Although wish I’d gotten the royal pass instead since with LA being reinstated the ability to relatively easily port to different major cities, as stated in the airship pass description http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain's_Airship_Pass_, is gone.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. GW2 needs to branch off from a “look what I killed” game and into becoming more diversified. Two examples of success franchises without combat would be “the Sims” and “Farmville”. GW2 should have customizable housing and a garden. The shear volume of virtual goods that could be added to the gem store could justify the development cost.
MMOs usually require some diversity as player can get burned out rather quickly by only a single form of gameplay. These non-combat gameplay forms (if done right) also have a slightly longer investment potential and can easily be scaled up.
Want housing – go play in the sandbox where PvPers can knock it down and make you start all over.
Considering I JUST posted about developing more social responsibility in gamer, I’d be for this. IF, and it’s a requirement, damaging another individuals “stuff” branded you a criminal. Where your character would be placed in a jail and no other character on the account could be played. Not until restitution’s were paid in full. Essentially, all you could do is log into that one character and walk around a little instanced jail cell. What might also be fun would be using this jail as a wall of shame. Thus, players could see who was in jail. Maybe a rating kept of it too.
This would be interesting, if slightly annoying to the sort of players who would constantly do stuff that get’s them put in jail :P
Although I guess you could build a whole meta around the jail. Have the characters try and escape the jail, give them a reasonable chance at success or failure.
do your world bosses everyday for gold
So are you suggesting i farm the gold?
Pretty much need to farm to get that amount of gold. As legendary’s are a non-required item (not having one doesn’t limit you in any way), it falls into the gray-area of grind (you don’t need it but if you want it…).
1) I run AC p1,2,3 & CoF P1 &2 daily.
Did this for a month… I’ve lost all desire to dungeon :P
AC path 2 is a bit iffy sometimes each path bring in about 1.5 gold (not including other rewards and drops so you’re more looking at around 2gold minimum), CoF brings in about 1 gold per path (again without counting drops and other rewards). So you’re looking about (if you do all the suggested paths) about easily 10 gold a day.
Whenever I needed money I usually sold my ascended mats (I feel a bit mixed about doing so since I could probably have had a full ascended armour by now). Of course grinding the materials to make your ascended mats is also rather time consuming…
You might be able to submit a ticket, but as great as the support team is, I don’t think anything can be done. When doing player to player trading like that you are putting yourself at risk. In the future though, try to avoid giving money except to well known and trusted guildies, and even then be careful.
probably the reason why ANet never built in a system for player to player trading. When GW2 came out a lot of people wanted a trade dialog or window to be able to exchange goods outside of the trading post, however such a system is somewhat open to abuse. Hopefully OP didn’t lose too much money. Still pretty sure you can report someone for scamming in-game.
And chests! Norn powah!
Poor norns, spend so much time sculpting their abs only to have them hidden away below armor. It’s not like norns have to ware cloths or anything, they’re naturally cold resistant.
why wouldn’t anet want to add this ability? it’s such an important combat customization concept, that they even had back in GW1.
The question is what do you mean by arrange? Do you mean swapping for example skills 1 and skill 2? Or by arrange do you mean you want a big pool of skills from which you can choice (like they had in GW1). The issue with the latter is that GW2 has half your skills bound to the weapons you’re using and half of the other half are fixed (healing and elite). GW2 was designed around weapon skills, not around the skill pool system like GW1 and some other MMOs.
seriously, GW2 is supposed to be a game and anet doesn’t seem to know the priority is supposed to be on core gameplay features.
Um… eh… oooh. Well I have to disagree with you there. Core gameplay can engaging but I kinda like my video games to have a story. I like it when there’s a story so I can care about the why and who of the action. For me it’s immersion that’s important.
Although I guess we’re on opposite poles of the spectrum here, I can understand how some players can be more invested in the mechanics of the game though. Trying out new build and skills combos and all that. Me I just settle for what works and then go out on an adventure.
You should always try to get a downed player up unless doing so will get you downed.
Dead players should be left dead until the fight ends unless you NEED them.
This +1
Going out of your way for 1 minute to res a downed person while running through the open world isn’t that big of a deal.
Ressees always remember to give the resser a ‘ty’, it’s nice to be appreciated.
While the art is nice, it only takes seconds to see all there is to see to a loading screen. And this game has many!
Here are a few ways to make Loading screens a bit more… interesting.
1. Give in text the lore and back story of each area you are visiting.
2. Leave the chat open when loading.
3. Give a random tip to the player in each loading screen.
Loading does take a bit longer than I’d like for me. However it certainly doesn’t take that long. Also I hate it in games when they have lore text on loading screens but it’s too long to read before the loading is over… Still some gameplay tips might be nice.
During the betas they actually had lore in the loading screens about the current map you are loading in to. Also a progress bar that shows how much has been loaded.
The progress bar at least would be great. Why would they take it out?
Next content patch, Mordem Drooburt appears to allow us to look our money back.
Talk about insulting. With this type of people making the game, no wonder everything is bugged and unfinished. And to think we’re paying that guy’s salary…just to be used for his own personal amusement.
Um… I just interpreted it as a guy who decided to play a little trick. It was kinda funny actually. Apparently for you that means the entire ANet is a hive of sloth and wickedness…
No working as intended as far as I can tell. After completing the episode with any character it unlocks the achievements so any subsequent playthroughs allows for achievements to be gained.
Rox didn’t desert. She gladium, she has no status until she’s accepted into a warband. Hers was killed in a cave in, along with her first lasher. And Rylock didn’t give her an order to kill Scarlet, he told her if she killed Scarlet she’d be granted entrance into Stone warband. In the end, rather than pursue her own goals, she tended Braham who’d been wounded. or in other words she made a personal sacrifice for a friend.
Pretty much this. Most gladiums fall outside the chain of command, meaning that they don’t necessarily have anyone whose in charge of them. They thus have little use or purpose in Charr society. That’s why some gladium leave Charr society and become part of the Orders or pirates or whatever. However being blood legion Rytlock would still be her superior.
you have a problem with your priory list OP, hekja died in orr, so there’s no way she would be in the new stuff.
Zombie Hekja 2.0
Uhm…Thalador?
Ascalon was Charr lands. They were violently pushed out by the humans. Its like if the Native Americans suddenly rose up and took their lands back here in the states. I’m sure there would be a ton of people going, “Well, it really was their land in the first place.” I just can’t be that sad about the human plight in this game. They kinda brought a lot of that on themselves.
My knowledge of American is limited by the few encounters I had with Americans (I live in Africa so having the first thing being told to me being: “I though there’d be more elephants in the streets” never gave me a very good opinion of the open minded nature of Americans. Better I guess than that Russian girl asking my why I’m white). Also lots and lots of Colbert Report. So I’m kinda under the impression that most American’s wouldn’t be fine with the native american’s rising up and retaking their land.
This is someplace where they could add a dungeon to the living story and it wouldn’t bother me. Basically, you track down the hiding place of the last remnants of the Toxic Alliance, and end their threat once and for all. The dungeon has spores you can harvest throughout it (which requires you to fight what’s in the area if you want the spores, no skipping) to make up for their removal from the rest of the world.
You destroy some leftover device of Scarlet’s that they’re using to launch the spores, and they stop appearing in the outside world.
+1 except for the removing of the open world events.
this could even serve as an appetizer that might make players more likely to buy the episode.
What do you mean by that?
After the initial 2 weeks, I presume a screen will show up with ‘Buy here for 200 gems’, that screen could feature the trailer. In a way it would market the living story episode.
I like that idea. ANet already has the ability to embed HTML in-game (see the gem store) so they could theoretically simply embed the youtube video.
Hence the limits of Living Story and the real reason behind expansions and additional areas. It is nearly impossible to keep continuity in an MMO designed around altering the world when so much of the personal story takes place throughout key areas of that world. Realistically the only way to completely avoid this is by ensuring the changes made are only to new areas of Tyria that are not a part of the personal story. All LS content needs to take place in newly created areas or limited to instanced or continuity will completely deteriorate.
The other issue is that it makes the characters involved in the PS almost off limits to current LS as far as killing them off or changing their role. Personally I have no idea how the heck this would play out if the current LS leads us to the death of Queen J.
But that somewhat goes against the original intent of the LW which is to revisit existing places and change them, update them.
I gotta be honest: ESO’s phasing is pretty impressive. I realize GW2’s infrastructure has a little age on ESO’s, but I’d absolutely be willing to give up a few gigs of hard drive for consistency. I’m afraid to say what I’d be willing to give up for the Nightmare Tower. a lot. probably too much. …
Phasing was originally introduced in WoW many moons ago. Not sure about ESO phasing (I didn’t hear too many nice things about the game so did fork over any money to see for myself) but ANet previously stated that they didn’t implement phasing since it inherently separates players on different phases thus prevent players from playing together.
That’s not the first, and probably won’t be the last asynchronous NPC side-dialogue. Game is riddled with them. However what I stated is the official explanation for old forum topics like “Why doesn’t Zhaitan fly over Orr” or “Why isn’t Zhaitan a world boss” as well as “Where the heck was the pact during season 1?”
The pact is still quite busy killing risen. In Orr. In The official timeline.
Yip it’s next to impossible for a MMO to escape the time-travelling-issue. The number of flags and checks requires to represent several different states would just be a big mess waiting to happen.
They really need to have a look into keeping small copies of portions of old maps to use for past stories.
They did any the issue was apparently size. However I don’t mind a few extra hundred megs here and there.
They should have considered it BEFORE implementing the ENTIRE Living Story. Its incredibly silly that the Personal Story, the Living Story, and the Open World all use the same resources when each of these might be in a different state at any time.
Living world only came into being after launch, if ANet had considered it while in development they could have built the infrastructure around it. However when ANet went living world instead of expansion the architecture currently in place could fully support it. Such changes would basically requires far reaching alterations of both client and server code.
I dont know all that much about network and internet programming, but whatever technology (probably thats the one called “streaming”) Youtube and similar video sites use, might be the solution. To my knowledge we dont actually download the video files themselves on the Hard Drive, it goes straight to the memory instead.
You’re referring to cloud gaming. Also that would mean that I with my very bad internet connection would be unable to play GW2
Example: at least 4 instances take place in your home instance, multiply that by five races and you have 20 instances… but you don’t need 20 map coppies for that, as nothing changes terrain-wise between each revisited instance, thus bringing the required maps down to 5, one for each home city. So claiming you would have to make 100s of coppies because you have 100s of instances is rediculous.
Yes but even if they had to load multiple copies at present the maps being affected are very few, and it isn’t a perfect solution but it’s still a temporary fix which they can apply until someone comes up with an ingenious scalable solution. Sure it’s a band-aid on a gaping wound, but at least it’s something :P
the events are far too recent and far too widespread (also far too well-documented by various races). and like i said, there's physical evidence of the gods existence spread throughout tyria. the bloodstone being shattered everywhere, for one. arah, for another.Skepticism may have started but doubting the gods on a large scale after only 250 years is like the general population of The USA doubting that George Washington ever existed.
this isn’t like doubting the old testament is true. this is like doubting the french revolution happened.
exactly. Doubting actual historical figures who played such a major role in so many things is pretty unlikely on any large scale. especially in just 250 years.
If history can doubt the existence of the gunmen on the grassy knoll in just 50 years…
I’ve always hated how big the world of Tyria theoretically is versus how much we know about it/how much of it is used.
My thoughts as well.
Remember last year when anet said they liked making festivals because they just have to turn them back on and add alittle content to keep them fresh. Guess what, another lie like precursor crafting and half the other stuff they said during season 1. Most stuff wasn’t reused from previous festival, look how bare bones Halloween was this year, they gutted alot of the content and replaced it with less. How boring Wintersday was, nothing was new.
Also as another note, remember dragon bash was somewhat based on Cantha. Well we all know Anets view of Cantha, replaced it with a Hole, and then replaced that hole with a fancy hole.
Dragon bash was primarily set in LA, with LA destroyed the turning it off and on thing isn’t so easy. Furthermore ANet didn’t lie about precursors, this has previously been discussed, conclusion was: A) Anet didn’t promise anything B ) with the changes to the meta-achievement system they need to redo how the precursors thing will work. Also do you have any proof at all about the Cantha conspiracy?
Dragon bash was hosted by captain’s council of LA, highly doubt they were in the mood of hosting a festival right after a devastating attack.(And if any bashing going on, it will be Scarlet, since no npc at the time knows a dragon is behind this.)
Seeing Anet just shot Zephyrites down from the sky, and they perm grounded on dry top, I will guess bazaar is not coming back next year either.
I am guessing the festival will coincide with the rebuilt Lions Arch being put into the game.
The Zephyrites lost the flag-ship but I don’t think the entire fleet was lost. When the leader gets what he is after they will probably regroup and go back to whatever trading schedule they had before.
Yeah, basically this. ANet could easily explain in lore why the festival is back (although probably only after S2).
Hello and welcome to GW2, I hope you enjoy the game.
For WvW ranking information you can go here: https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/wvw
What I think makes it worse is that they have the new Points of Interest segment which actually doesn’t tell us much of interest! If you see what the playerbase is interested in, which are the largest threads still running, most of them address the April 15 patch. Still nothing is being said.
To me, that feels like Anet is turning away from me whilst I am trying to voice my concerns. It feels like an insult.
Point of interest was never intended to give us ‘interesting’ info it was intended to give the developers a chance to talk about the work they did.
Reddit is unreliable about feedback.
It’s a lair for people that will just defend a game no matter what.
The gw2 forum is the official and logical place that most of gw2 players from all the world will visit when they need to express their opinions.
Lot of people don’t even know what reddit is, in my country (Italy) people hardly have heard of it.
From my perspective the official forum is the first place people jump to when they’re unhappy and want to complain. I think the official part gives people the impression ANet will be more likely to hear them. Of course I’m one of the few people on the internet not using reddit so my ability to compare is limited.
People who post about mounts are not trolls, are just people asking for something they like, trolls are the people who reply to those threads inviting the OP to change game, writing just “oh this thread again” or “NO” et similia, without even trying to find (as I’ve already wrote in another post) a middle ground. (edit for kitten o_O)
A troll would be someone purposefully attempting to illicit anger. I’m guessing most of the people that reply (myself included) are long time forum users which have seen this very topic brought up so many times that it becomes noticeable painful to view. So the replies aren’t trolling so much as an attempt at catharsis.
You see these forums as a way for 2 way communication between devs and fans. But in reality these forums were set up for fans to communicate with each other. When devs come on, they do so on their own private time. They’re not paid to talk to you. They’re paid to make a game.
Yeah, for months before S2 we barely saw any trace of dev activity on the forums (working hard to deliver new content). We more often get replies in the lore forums although it’s also made somewhat clear that it’s being done in their spare time.
However I do think the forums serve as a passive means of gathering feedback. The community reps actively monitor discussion, aggregate and summarize and provide feedback to the dev team.
As a new player is nice and wonderful but very fast can turn into boringnes…after reaching lvl 80 and every day the same things you do:Dungeons,World Bosses,Chat with guild. The last new thing what was introduced if I am correct was some new healing abilities like Skelk poison to thief.I finished the LS very fast.
The lack of conventional end game content (i.e. raids) does have the bad habit of leaving more intensive players will little to do. ANet does introduce some grind content here and there though with the goal of providing longer term engagement. However where something like raids are a subtle grind what ANet usually implements is very overtly grind and so a lot of players are put off. I sometimes almost think that having a team (a small one of course) only producing group content would perhaps be good idea. Of course that’s a dangerous path to take since it might end up that raids become the primary means of end-game engagement (meaning no LW and even less PvP and WvW).
Anet hide everything and are not open with us at all.
Yeah but the GW2 community doesn’t reall make being open very easy…
I do honestly believe they should tell us more. Not everything but more. I would simply like more updates on what’s going on behind the scenes, I think players deserve that. I feel like the wall between the players and Anet is very high and very thick. I think the wall between players and developers should be thinner, and more open.
Honestly I do feel the same why.
Life happens where “what I want to accomplish” meets “what I am capable of accomplishing.” As I get older, the two grow closer together and I learn more about my limits. I think that most of the people posting here are younger than I am, and still believe that people are capable of doing much more than they really are.
Youth is wasted on the young.
Well the exchange rate would be a bit wonky in any case you’d probably be trading GW1 gold for GW2 copper.
You can’t advertise it in gw2 or gw it will get you a temp/perm ban, however you can do it and you will not be banned. There are sites devoted to trading items across games.
So in other words, all things are legal as long as you don’t get caught.
I think we should probably all agree on the fact that there isn’t anything we would all agree on.
This. So much of this.
I think we should probably all agree on the fact that there isn’t anything we would all agree on.
I disagree with this post, because I actually think that there are things we would agree on.
Such as the lack of penguins and ducks in this game is making people leave in droves.
After that unfortunate penguin incident a few years back I’m glad there is a notable lack of penguins. Would like a few more ducks though…

Note the word “all”.
I did notice that word. But it is a proven fact that everyone loves penguins and ducks.
… and then pow penguin out of no where. It still keeps my awake at nights sometimes.
I think we can all agree that all quaggans deserve to be kicked repeatedly until they stop moving.
But I love quaggans. They’re like featherless nice penguins.

You wrote a really long post and the thing that you wanted to ask is plain simple: “do I want raids?”. And the answer is: I don’t know because I never participated in raids.
My suggestion can be found in the opening post. Feel free to read it…
Not that long, the quotes actually make it look bigger than it really is. But ok onto to your suggestions that you assumed I didn’t read.
Don’t get me wrong. I do like the story in this living story season… But I feel like that this season is even less group friendly then the season one.
All added instances are aimed for a single character. So there is absolutely no cooperation required what so ever. And there are instances like Concordia that should rather be designed for groups.
Or maybe add some group exploration/hard mode for instances with additional achievements?
Original post in it’s entirety. Most of it is not actually a suggestion so let’s specifically looked at the suggestion…
Or maybe add some group exploration/hard mode for instances with additional achievements?
Anyway you’re suggestion is to add group instances… so basically dungeons or raids.
Using the already existing in game vocabulary an dungeon would be a 5 man cooperative instanced area with a set start and end (usually with a set number of ‘bosses’ in it). For the most part an instanced-raid would be a dungeon but one balanced around a larger number of people (WoW if I remember correctly have 10 man and 25 man raids). GW2 has also introduced open world-raids. Although calling them raids might be a bit incorrect as open-world-large-scale encounter would be more apt (as it mostly only contains a single boss). These open-world raids would be things like Tequatl or Wurm where a moderate to high amount of cooperation and organisation is required.
From my understanding what you’re saying in your title is: ‘I want more multiplayer content’, what you suggest in your posts is: ‘instanced group content’. But instanced group content is a bit vague since PvP also falls under that category. My question regarding raids was more an attempt to elicit a slightly more detailed suggestion from you.
I only suggested hard mode for story instances for group cooperation. How do you know if I want raids? In one of my posts I specifically wrote that I never raided in my life!
Your original post was somewhat lacking in detail…
What? Why? Most of people that disagree say that I want raids (I really don’t have a clue why) or didn’t understand me (because they say I want the story instances to be group only – and that’s not true because I only wanted harder versions of them that require a group).
Convey ideas to other people while remembering that other people lack the same frame of reference that you have. You say you want more multiplayer content without providing details, explanation or example and people will obviously put it into a frame of reference that they understanding.
Don’t take this the wrong way as I’m all for everyone playing the way they want to play, but if your guild ONLY does dungeons, you can join up to 4 other guilds that branch out, thus widening your options. The only thing that would cause problems is if one or more of them require 100% rep. If you join, for example, a guild that prefers open world content, you can do some exploring with the new guild after your daily dungeon runs with your primary guild. Perhaps some in that new guild always wanted to try dungeons but didn’t want to PUG, you can bring them along on a dungeon run with your primary guild and show them the ropes (exactly how I started running dungeons….I still don’t PUG though). Others from the new guild hear how fun they were and join in on a later run. Your guilds are now mingling together. Some from your primary guild start running open world content with some of your new guildmates. Oh the possibilities!
Instead of asking to change something that a lot of people asked for and are happy with so that it matches what you and your guild are used to or prefer, go out and meet some more people. Regardless what some on the forums say, there’s no shortage of people and there’s quite a bit to see and do.
Ok so you want dungeons then.
I fully agree that more dungeons would be desirable. However changing the story instances to make them more multiplayer friendly might not be the way to go. I think ANet should just implement a proper dungeon instead of attempting to provide us with dungeon-lite.
Spoilers!
My sentiments exactly Dr. River Song.
Hey let’s keep the spoilers to the Lore forum where it belongs :P
That was really awkward. I had to stare at the screen in a mix of amusement and disappointment. ANet’s writing has improved a bit this season, but the death was painfully obvious and pointless.
Not pointless though, I think it’s a means of removing Marjory temporarily from the LW and thus allowing for more focus on Rox and Braham in the next episode (I think, maybe I’m wrong). But I will agree slightly with the obvious part and add to it not something that led to any sort of emotional-reaction.
Anet have been doing that kind of cheap writing tricks since the original personal story., and it have nothing to do with the character being female or not.
*Introduce new character
*Make him / her stand out for 1-2 missions
*Kill them off for cheap emotional shock
Like I said previously, I don’t think it was purely for the emotional shock.
Her death was premature. We should have got to know and like her first. Now it’s not really shocking for us.
Well she seemed like an interesting character with some potential. However given the medium (video games) the sort of characterization required to make her death shocking would be difficult to convey. Where a TV series is mostly talking a video game is mostly gameplay. The amount of time that can be spend on a secondary character is limited I’m afraid.
Although I will agree that randomly killing her was a bit of a waste, but with the limited ‘cast’ there’s only so many people you could kill…
This happened all the time in the personal story, especially during the Orr part. See: greatest fear plotlines, priory’s plan plotline, etc. Your mentor was an exception.
Yeah, death does seem to be used more often as a “things-just-got-real” than a emotional-shocking-situation. Although their was the plotline with the 2 Asura that fell in love (or I think they did) that wasn’t too bad, although they were also a bit under-characterized (probably more because of the limited time we spent seeing their relationship grow).
They should’ve at least showed us how she died with a cutscene. We just see her hanging from a vine. lol.
Yeah. In S2 story has improved a lot but there’s still not enough cinematic-presentation of things. I guess they’re still sorting out the technicalities of the cutscenes (all of the in-game cutscenes so far have been mainly zoomed way out with very basic character animations).
With the death of Belinda, and the mindset of Anet so far, we can expect the predictable grief story arc for Majory: Mourning; Revenge Mode; Push away loved ones; Almost die (again); Come to terms. Unoriginal, but Original Storytelling isn’t exactly Anet’s strong point.
Possible, but I don’t think ANet is going to turn Belinda into Majory’s revenge motivation. Doing so would remove what little emotional impact there is. If the goal was for us to not morn the death of Belinda but to morn for Majory’s lost we’re more likely to see Majory experiencing pain, loss and sadness and not a thirst for revenge.
when I suggested we have an audience with the pale tree, they rebuke that I’m ‘reknown, but not that famous’, and ourcharacters replies something along the lines of ’we’ll find a way.’
To be fair, the rest of the gang wasn’t with us then, so they probably don’t know we met the Pale Tree before.
This. There will probably be a moment with the Pale Tree saying “We meet again, my child,” at which point the rest of the team will go, “You know the Pale Tree?”
Well they definitely should do something like this. At the very least give some recognition as to how awesome my character is :P
Up until S2 the issue was with the ambiguity around when the living story takes place, but with S2 clearly stating that it takes place after Zhaitan’s defeat it’s not unreasonable to simply accept that the character’s have gone through the entire Personal Story and give some recognition of the fact.
The Pale Tree recognizing us would be a small step in that directly. Even better of the Biconics would react in the way purposed above.
However I must say with the whole Mordy name game (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Naming-Mordremoth) it does feel like some of the subtle things get left out sometimes.
Having the biconics actually react and talk to us would be a big step in addressing one of the big issues I’m experiencing: we’re a bit disconnected from the story. Partly maybe because our characters aren’t voiced but mostly because we get referred to (‘the boss’, ‘the leader’) and never really talked to (if that makes any sense).
Here’s the thing, the Omphalos Chamber is open to any old shmuck who wants to walk in. Why would we need an audience with her when I have already walked in (By myself, with no firstborn NPCs) and informed her that I was the one who killed Scarlet? It is a pretty significant oversight on the part of the writers.
I don’t think it was an oversight. Remember this dialog occurs at the end of Episode 2, the writer probably wanted to convey this fact. Instead of having the episode end on “ok everyone lets go to the Pale Tree” and then nothing for two weeks, they decided “ok lets first arrange for a meeting” and then nothing for two weeks. Sort of an attempt to explain why we’re not immediately going to see the Pale Tree, and also an attempt to more or less keep the episodes encapsulated.
Although I do think that it could have been done better.
I replayed the story, this time as a Sylvari and fully expected the line to change to something like, “You might be the only person who could get and audience with the Pale Tree.”
I like that someone else noticed this.
Playing on my Sylvari I also found this a bit odd. They probably didn’t feel like (or didn’t have time to) inputting a race-check in the dialogue tree.
Don’t forget, Pale Tree might be preparing for the brunt of Mordremoth and Nightmare Court…
Why Nightmare Court? If they are to discover that there are other trees not bound by the Pale Tree’s Dream, they would gladly burn the Pale Tree down to ashes, before moving on to turn the other trees to nightmare…
Basically the plot of the Malyck story line.
The Pale Tree, despite her humbleness, is still the leader of a major race of tyria, the local equivilent of the Arcane Council, Queen Jennah, Knut Whitebear or Smolder the Unflinching. The PC, despite his psudo-celeberaty status for his role in the demise of Zhaitan and Scarlet Briar, is still a civilian, and not on active duty with any of the four orders.
While i’m not saying it would be impossible or even probably difficult to secure a meeting with the Pale Tree, it would not be easy or without complications.
But now we run into a lore – gameplay clash. Lore wise it makes sense, in game we can however just stroll right up to her. The confusion is understandable.
There is a big problem generally that players need to spend their barter currency to buy recipes before they know what the recipe entails, or in this case what the recipe even makes. This forces players to research recipes out of game.
If the designers truly expect all players to research this material from the web then they should supply that data from an official site and not leave it to the community.
A bit of in-game tweaking of the UI would fix this, and is hopefully something ANet will look into.
I already have a feeling E is a Charr or Norn. Deep voice? Both of those species fit the bill in terms of deep voices.
Or E could have been batman-ing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2yv8aT0UFc
That does raise the question though, where is Ellen? Right now my guess is with Ellen but I’m not 100% loyal to that speculation. I only say her because she’s absent and she was the one with the greatest mode of transportation outside of Waypoints.
Kiel is probably still in LA. She isn’t one of the biconics (and as such isn’t the roaming around sort) so her involvement in S1 was mostly as a result of so much of S1 involving LA. Dry Top has little connection to LA (although you’d expect the lionguard to atleast show up and give a helping hand to the survivors).
I don’t understand how people are up in arms with Belinda dying and expecting this is the start of more deaths (even though you said it’s not about her, I bet you thought about it since GoT = deaths). How in the world can you start on that path? Just cause one, somewhat insignificant person dies doesn’t mean we’re going down that path with more minor characters. Belinda died, OK we’ll deal with it. There is no need to make it a big issue.
Yeah, GoT has somethings GW2 doesn’t, namely a large and mostly well characterized cast. Currently in GW2 we have Destiny’s Edge and Destiny’s Edge 2.0. There really isn’t a lot of room for a lot of killing.
Anyway my thinking is this: Belinda didn’t really die so much as a means of playing on our emotions but her death took Marjory out of the picture (and potentially Kasmeer as well) which (as I’m guessing from the trailer) is allowing us to focus more or Rox and Braham (who up until now have basically been background characters).
Also Belinda dies!?!?!? Thanks for the spoiler…. :P
Welcome to the lore forum
The main problem with an MMO storyline is that there isn’t much threat and danger. Players don’t really mind if a city gets destroyed as there will still be a trading post, repair anvil, and bank somewhere else. You can repeat the story again tomorrow.
But in my case the appeal is not in the end result, but in the journey. The journey can be fun and entertaining without the need for threat and danger. The story as it stands is about exploration, about discovery. The interest of players is not as a result of wondering what’s going to happen to the biconics but rather wondering what will be revealed, what the answers to the questions are.
Sure I guess if ANet could have their cake and eat it (that is to say have a story that is both one of discovery and one of suspense) that would be great but I won’t hold it against the story if it appeals to me in one way and not in another.
All true, however in their defense the analogies used are an over simplified version.
Pretty much this. One doesn’t compare an apple to an apple in a analogue because that’s pointless (the idea of course being that you compare something unknown to something known in order to explain the unknown). One will inherently attempt to compare and apple to something similar to an apple, but since the thing you’re comparing to the apple is not an apple (so an orange) there will always be inconsistencies which can lead to false analogues or incorrect assumptions.
My theory is that the Pale Tree was planted in a location that’s connected to the heart of the Eternal Alchemy, perhaps a powerful ley line hub.
Except that it wasn’t Ventari who planted the seed. It was Ronan who planted it on the graves of his family that had been killed by the White Mantle/Mursaat (can’t remember which one exactly)
In agreement with Icdan here. This is where it get’s a little too… fate-ly I guess… not a good word. Maybe destined?
Anyway what I getting at is that we know for a fact that the seed of the Pale Tree was buried with Ronan’s family. He found the seed in a cave, went back home to find his family died, buried them and buried the seed with them. So the chances that Ronan would randomly choice to bury his family on some magical spot seems very unlikely. I guess you could simply say it was the will-of-the-eternal-alchemy, but I’ve never been a big fan of the whole ‘destiny’-deal.
Still, why Pale Tree? What is so important about that one specific, considering there are alluded to be others Sylvari bearing trees out there. Maybe it’s not our Pale Tree? Or Tree shaped something and player characters just assume that is Pale Tree after reading Scarlet Diary.
Exactly, any explanation that ANet gives us (and I’m sure they will, remember the last LW episode ended with us on our way to see the Pale Tree) will have to keep in mind that the Pale Tree was one of many seeds, and isn’t the only tree (Malyck’s tree). So what makes the Pale Tree so unique?
The thing is, I think ANet is going in a different direction with the lore than they had originally planned in regards to the Pale Tree. This isn’t a bad thing, but it does mean that you’d either have to retcon some stuff or leave some inconsistencies in the lore. Clearly it seems like they’re diminishing the role of Ronan, if they go with the ‘Pale Tree is on a magical nexus’ explanation.
But what if they die somewhere distant in the mists? I think the example you’re referring to is Abaddon and I think he was already sort of in Tyria when he died.
He was in the Realm of Torment. When he struck back at the gods, they ganged up on him and defeated him (they did not kill him) and then bound him to the Realm of Torment as his prison.
From my understanding Nightfall caused an overlap between the Realm of Torment and Tyria, and through this overlap Abaddon was able to kinda slip out of the Realm of Torment and into the quasi-Tyria. When you encounter him it’s when he’s basically half way into Tyria and half way into the Realm of Torment. Although I might be wrong, I finally got around to buying the original GW but I’m not nearly that far along so my understanding primarily comes from the wiki.
if I understand you correctly, a god is only a god as long as you revere it? That means ‘godhood’ is a purely relative position. But we know the gods are gods reguardless of opinions about them. So how could the charr deny the sixes godhood? It seems that godhood means more to you than it actually does.
Godhood is inherently more than a magic-power-level-reading. If we go by the definition of godhood as simply being very powerful then the Elder Dragons are also gods.
A dog is a dog whether anyone chooses to pet them and a god is a god whether anyone choses to worship them. it’s not a relative thing.
Oh you positivist. I’m an interpretivism myself, so my particular epistemological and ontological stances causes me to inherently view the world as being constructed from social-object and meaning to be attributed through human perception. So no a dog is not always a dog :P
The existence of the titans disagrees with godhood being relative. We know that the six are gods and that the titans were not. Even though the titans were undeniably powerful beings. What is your definition of god again?
What I’m getting at, godhood as a measure of power isn’t sufficient. Godhood inherently requires something that is spiritually meaningful, also a touch of the omnipotence doesn’t hurt (as we see with human they clearly still perceive the gods as being a role in their lives, not overtly but that they’re still here subtly influencing things).
