The GuildMag Interview

In my oppinion many people flip out over nothing. Its yust and interview. And Arena net showed massive inprovements over seasson 1 and i have faith in the.

Jip definitely improved. However they’ve either not improved enough or not in the correct direction according to some players.

However I went further and took my rose tinted S2 glasses of and I have to say: Season 2 so far is nothing to brag about.

I’d say it’s decent. Lot of room for improvement but at this moment I’d say I’m satisfied. Hopefully however come season 3 (or should I hope second half of season 2?) they’ll go from decent to good or even really good.

I might turn slowly turn cynical, since I was one of the people who defended ANet heavily a few months back, but the storyline is one of the things that kept me going the most and it is subpar. Too many holes.
I like RPGs and I get through a lot of bad gameplay and other stuff for story, but if that element is missing then I will see the other stuff.

I wouldn’t say holes, although maybe that’s a good word to use. Producing content in video games is expensive and difficult. To get a person talking on film is easy since all you need is a camera and a person (who can talk) to do the same in a video games requires designers, programmers, maybe even mo-cap, and then some one do some VO and then the QA side. So given the limited amount of content they can produce it seems more like they’re covering the main topics but not fleshing things out (so it’s not so much a hole as much as a lacking. I guess that doesn’t make sense).
So my opinion is that the writers produce this wonderful and entertaining story (possibly) but somewhere between the writing and the releasing a lot of cuts need to be made so it can fit into limited time and resource (and technical limitation, since somethings the engine just can’t do easily).

No expansion content

Congratulations!

This is the 1,000,000th thread on this subject!

Only 1,000,000 more threads on this subject to go before they actually listen to it.

I do believe they’ve already made up their minds. But don’t let me stop anyone from continuing to believe that they have opinions that will start to matter if repeated enough…

Not everyone feels an expansion is needed – many of us believe the exact opposite.

Probably me then. My thinking goes as follows: why would ANet suddenly be able to produce more content just because they decided to bundle the content into one release and call it an expansion? Oh sure you might say: “Because we’ll pay them!”, but I’m not sure that will inherently lead to more content.
Of course I would love to see more content, and I’m sure this is one of the underlying reasons for all the expansion talk.

There has to be an expansion before we fight Mordremoth, there’s no way an epic battle against a dragon is just through living story update, there’s got to be an expansion coming.

Will agree that 4 episodes (or however many we have left) surely won’t be enough to do a decent epic dragon fight.

The dragons are amazingly epic enemies and I’m sure each dragon we face will be better and better, but I’ve been wondering whether or not the dragons are the only end-game bosses we’re going to face.

Well we did technically have Scarlet…

Defiance buff on Bosses

Defiance does (in small encounters) add a bit of tactical thinking, since managing defiance stacks can add a new aspect to an encounter. However you’ll obviously not notice this because A) most small encounters (such as dungeons) can be breezed through without much effort (so it’s not a consideration) and B ) most players don’t really know they can still interrupt abilities (since most players just spam dps).

In the open world it’s for the best, but I feel like it’s overkill inside of dungeons.

Deviance isn’t a great solution but it’s probably one of the better solutions to address massive zergs (you’d have the boss being perma-stunned otherwise).

Yes i feel the same.In dungeons that is just crappy programming.

How about we say design instead of programming, since that’s technically what it is.

This only means that Anet are not able to programm a proper Boss’s mechanics. How can other MMOs can have interrupts but GW2 can’t?!?!I’m really interested to know.

What is a proper mechanic example or that you propose? What do they do different in other MMOs?

Probably referring to WoW (or maybe that’s just me projecting). Anyway from what I remember from my ICC days the encounters were either 10 man or 25 man, you’d have a handful of professions that’s could interrupt and the bosses would have well telegraphed abilities that needed to be interrupted (think three-toed tootsie since that’s basically what it was, look for the bar to appear spam interrupt continue). Think it was usually the tanks that did the interrupting (I was a warlock so I just mindlessly performed the same rotation over and over and over and over…).

Sorry but i disagree with the easy mode you talk about.Lets take Kholer’s whirlwind attack for example. It can be interupted once and then you just keep dodging it.What is the difference if i interupt that attack or dodge it?I don’t take dmg in neither situation.Right now dodge has replaced the interupt.

Kholer, you speaking of dungeon content, there your party size is 5, which causes the boss have 5 stacks of defiance after successful CC, you just have to have party members to have a CC skill if possible, coordinate that your party members chip off the 5 defiance, so that you can use more powerful CC, like Skullcrack with Paralyzation Sigil.

Well, repeating myself:
In a way, Unshakable is bad design choice, but also the mobs during the Unshakable boss, which are mostly simple mobs (which could be good for creating opportunities for using CC on other than just the boss).

Pretty much this. But like I said, interrupts aren’t necessary and aren’t really a thing. They’re like combos, you technically can do a combo but no one does (knowingly).

Can you stun lock bosses in other games so that they cannot attack? Since everyone likes to drag WoW into comparisons, can you stun lock whatever the most powerful WoW boss is so that you can just DPS it without any risk?

Nay, stun is basically useless until the little bar pops up.

So you can’t stun lock them to death in other games but you want to be able to do it in this game or am I not understanding you correctly. Defiance is a good mechanic and is unique for this game. All MMO’s do not have to be cookie cutters of each other.

I think the idea seems to be rather to make stunning easier (i.e. don’t have to worry about the whole managing stacks business).

GW2 doesn’t have to do what every other MMO does.

You are absolutely right.Lets change what is working for 10 years and make something new that is not working.’’Great’’ thinking.Just like what Anet did with the removal of the holy trinity…Yes it is working but is it better? In my opinion it’s not.(PvE wise)

I love not having the holy trinity. The only downside is that it removes some teamwork but you know not having to rely on a healer to keep my alive and a tank to keep the angry away from me kinda gives me a sense of agency.

Almost all the issues that are coming up, again and again, are coming up due to lack of proper communication on Anet’s part.

That and the lack of a decent search function.

So you want a list of things they are working on and updated monthly.

Sounds like a nice idea.

The Planetside 2 roadmap is a good example of the kind of thing I’d like to see from them. Planetside 2 is a different beast but I’d like to see roadmaps for WvW, sPvP, open world PVE, dungeons and fractals.

In reality though, ArenaNet seem to be making very slow progress on these fronts so I don’t see how much they can actually tell us.

From outside they appear to be making slow progress… the alternative is that a lot of work get’s thrown out internally for some reason or another (which I guess would be kinda sad).

Whenever anet representatives or devs talk, it’s like their head is on the chopping block. They’re only words but I can feel the nervousness in their indecision on what to say.

Face it, communication isn’t their strong suit, hasn’t been since launch and probably will never be.

There was a time when we’d get a message or two a few times a week.

You know, if they were to come out and say that they’re currently working on Cantha expansion, without releasing absolutely no additional information, people would easily get extremely hyped.
I bet, this alone would bring tons of people back to the game.

If Cantha is the draw, why would they return before Cantha is released?

I find it funny how the guild wars 2 community is probably one of the nicest gaming communities but arenanet managed to upset them pretty badly.

Most of the unhappy people are just unhappy people unfortunately.

Or maybe a grapnel to go over the keep walls…

As I’m sitting on 99% world completion on one of my alts, I’d love something that could quickly pop me over those unassailable walls (because Aurora Glade just ain’t doing that good right now). So I’m all for this idea

Anet don’t want to talk to us anymore , they only want to talk with our money…..

Me and my money actually have a pretty close relationship, and my money hasn’t said anything to me about it… Although it might just be that my money doesn’t want me to get jealous or something.

+1 Vayne. Although, I do have to say, their silence has spoken volumes and will be extremely hard to retract.

Never actually found much in the way of value in silence myself. Silence tends to have the bad habit of being filled with people’s self projections. Although it does make for wonderful speculations.

I’ve been talking to people in game today. Most people I talk to don’t even know people are annoyed about something. lol

Yeah, there’s this massive disconnect between the forums and the in-game community. I tend to see this especially around patch time when no one in my guild really knows about the patches whereas I’ve experienced hours of debate, discussion and speculation.

Seeing the forums have great ideas but hidden in swears, cries and what have you.

Anet should allow the forum community to vote on player champions that might have access to special forum for discussions of changes or updates. Gather people who have experience with the game in many aspects and avoid all the clutter of…Class X OP or this game is ghay.

Yeah sounds like a good idea, but I maybe recognize like 1 or 2 names, pretty sure no one recognizes me. What I’m saying is, how effectively would we be able to pick a random person from a random pool of names.

So disapointed

I like the format of the pre-views btw. Better than to have just one big blob blog.

It’s to drum up interest. However having to wait 3 weeks for all the updates, especially given how brief each new reveal is…

My “ire” comes mostly for the 3-week blog post schedule to say absolutely nothing new. For that, why don’t they just spend these resources in making more features? Why WASTE the time in making useless blog posts?

I certainly hope you don’t think that by not making blog post they’d have more time for features… What I’m saying is, making a blog post don’t take all that much time.

I’m disappointed by the impatience of the forum-goers. :\
It’s WEEK 1 of THREE.
Cool yon jets, folks, more’s coming.

Kinda hoping for a couple of big additions as well (like the wardrobe was pretty nice). Although not seeing anything ‘big’ (or at least big from the perspective of us players).

I am all for people speaking their minds, as long as they know full well what they are talking about.

That’s the best passive aggressive backhanded comment I’ve heard in a while :P
I’m so using it next time someone starts talking stupid.
Unless you were being total straightforward about it… (although I’m still gonna use it).

No, I’m not. I’m a developer and I can guess how much resources/time does a change take. And I’m sure it’s way way way longer than a blog post that takes, at most, 2-3 hours (that’s what I said)

I’m a developer too! (but aren’t we all here in internet-ville?). What I know is unless you’ve seen the code there’s no reliable means by which you can estimate how long or not how long it would take. That’s not even considering developer ability

Wow…
I’ve have heard of angry nitpicking, but geez… this thread has got to take the cake…

Welcome to the story forums

Furthermore, it’s been established that the avatar isn’t a physical thing but a mere manifestation (of ether, from what I recall). Such things should disappear, rather than fall limp, just the same as magical effects disappear if you get knocked out/killed (such as seen in Sea of Sorrows with the guardians on Balthazar’s Trident during the final naval battle).

Assuming it’s an active ability. Sure it’s something that developed over time, but that doesn’t mean it’s something that can be turned on or off. Maybe the moment it came into being it simply was.

Totally indifferent. While the story so far is off to a better start than the last LS – I’m bored by another Sylvari focus. Nothing about the sylvari is compelling and Anet is jamming them down our throats.

I’m not getting this Sylvari overload thing though… different perspectives perhaps?

The assumption that any work of creativity is unbiased is… well demonstrates a deep misunderstanding of the human creative process and human thinking in general.

You see as your physical body is the only thing by which you come to know the world (pure rationalism is silly if you ask me), and since your body is an unreliable tool at best all human are inherently biased in terms of what they have or haven’t experienced and in terms of how they experienced things. Essentially all experience you have is interpreted and within a particular mental and emotional context (pure positivism is silly if you ask me). You have an existing frame of reference and knowledge through which all new experience is interpreted and meaning is drawn from. Now new experience might reinforce or go against your frame of reference (i.e. your bias) and either reinforce believes or lead to cognitive dissonance and possible self delusion or a change in your bias / frame of reference. You see as such it is humanly impossible to not have a bias. Every though, every word you speak or action you take is influenced by the internal workings of your mind, the things you know and don’t know.

What am I saying? Whoever thinks not having a bias is even possible or that having one is in some way bad, is a very silly person. The only problem occurs when one enters a state of self delusion in order to reinforce present biases when confronted with contradictory information.

That doesn’t really explain why are menders are trying to do something with this so-called manifestation. I am agree with Konig – there is no reason to rush towards the avatar since Sylvari could communicate with it without the avatar and ask her what help she needs and where. IIRC, she said her roots are torn up by Mordrem. Why not head there first?

Why do people visit graves?
You see you’re thinking too factually about this, the facts don’t matter when we’re dealing with living emotional beings who ascribe value and meaning to things which might not (if one views them factually) have value. Like putting a piece of rotting meat into the ground, putting a nice headstone on it, and then routinely visiting it.
Just because the pale trees avatar is only a illusion does mean that sylvari don’t think of it as being a thing, as being their mother.

Nothing here is particularly ‘perfect’ or would lead to ‘perfect’.

1. Mounts

I’m basically ‘whateva’ about this.

2. Open world housing market – have different housing lots around Tyria where you can buy your lot and enjoy the scenery. Sorry but instanced houses just don’t make it alive.

Ghost town, ghost towns as far as the eye can see! No thank you.

3. Open world dragon encounters and destruction.

Sounds fine, more complicated and thus more time consuming.

4. Open world Hunger Royale events spawning at random times and places. The word will spread out fast.

I take it you mean Hunger Games + Battle Royal? No idea why we need this in the open world, we already got Southsun Survival.

5. Introduce all 6 God realms as 10-man dungeons/zones.

Again I don’t have any inherent disagreement with this. I just don’t think that in terms of effort and time required this would be realistic.

6. Living Story heading to Mursaat Lands (we got infused), Charr Homeland, Deldrimor Front, Woodland Cascades, Far Shiverpeaks, Rings of Fire.

Same as above.

7. Make Living Story leading to a new Continent. (Expansion)

Meh.

8.* Please give some love to PvPers. Give them GvG’s and Hall of Heroes.

Why not.

Do the event with them and make it pass every time you get the chance.

And then when they start threatening you report them :P

What I’d like to know, does Arena Net consider this an actual exploit? Something they’d ban people for doing? Links to any official comments by developers or staff?

No official word that I know of. Technically it is, but yeah no one knows.

They didn’t ban people for Lyssa farm, Anchorage farm, Shelter and Dolyak farm.

What did they have all in common? Stalling/failing events.

You’re more likely to get banned for harrassing people completing the event than this

These sort of things they usually fix via patching not banning.

My 2 cents:

It’s NOT an exploit because the event is designed to have 2 VALID outcomes: Success or Fail.
No game mechanic is broken when you purposely fail the event.

Ah but failure is not intended to be something to strive for. Failure is there to tell you: ‘better luck next time’.

Now farming is an exploit too? GW2 community makes me sicker day by day …

ps: Remember what happened at the ember farm. ANet just changed the event.

/thread

Not farming per say, it’s farming via event failure. The question hang over the failure part.

I usually dont mind those farms, but lately the use of caps and name-calling in chat is too much. There is a number of reason why ppl want the event to succed, and “trolling” is just one of them. (btw, does anybody else find it hilarious that succeding an event is “trolling”?)
If only the farmers could be polite about it, accept a few less bags once in a while and move on, there wouldnt be any problems. As it is now, with reports of abuse and harrasment, Anet will most likely nerf it, and everybody loose.

I think this is the reason why they removed the queen’s dale champ farm. It’s probably the mob mentality thing.

For the record, I love farming.

It’s like I go into the zone, simple repetitive activities just put me in this zen-like state.

There is possible plot emerging here with the gambling. Minister Estelle has now been blackmailed with gambling debts accrued while gambling against ruffians (not nobles). Kasmeer’s brother (?) built up gambling debts that led to her father going to jail. Could this be an organized White Mantle/bandit operation that drags nobles into debt and then extorts favors?

Maybe one of the writers just has a deep dislike of gambling. Sometimes these sort of themes subconsciously work themselves into things.

Stop being so logical. The forum is too busy crying that we didn’t side with the child going into brat mode.

I don’t know why I bother, but I’ll say it once again: The main complaint here was the lack of any option to have your own personality. The fact that people disagree on whether to side with Taimi is testament to why personality options are good.

You would expect this sort of “can’t do anything about it” character disagreement from a TV show or a book, not a video game.

If this thread has shown us anything is that players have a diverse (but I wouldn’t call it greatly diverse, but still…) range of feelings and opinions regarding how this scenario should have played out. As the episodes continues we’re seeing more and more need for us to be able to express ourselves. Even if only given a handful of extra dialogue options that’s better than our characters acting in a way that does not match how we perceive them to be.

To use a bad analogy, it would be like if a restaurant caught on fire and the cooks ignored the billowing smoke and flames and kept cooking. Then the fire chief shows up and tells the cooks that the building is burning down, and they still ignore the flames and smoke and firefighters, and instead send the fire chief on a series of errands around the kitchen before they’ll listen. Stir a pot here, grab some carrots over there, and then they’re shocked when it all burns down around them. Tyria, I guess, is chock-full of dummies.

You call that a bad analog! Ha!
Lets say that the building next door (or perhaps even two doors over) catches fire, but the cooks are ignoring it because they have a packed room full of Flame Legion wanting food (and you know they’re going to rebel if you don’t start feeding immediately), and the health inspector showed up (so they got to get rid of all the Ascalonian ghost in the basement), and they haven’t been performing very well financially and the restaurant is on the edge of being purchased by the Nightmare Court Inc. who want to bulldoze the place and build a strip club etc.
Basically they have a lot of things to get done and bad repercussion if they don’t do them.
The fire chief comes in and they put him to work, stirring a pot here, grabbing some carrots over there to help put out as much food as possible so the clientele doesn’t burn the place down themselves. Oh and the send the fire chief to keep mean old Mr Inquest, the health inspector, busy while the dish washers try to sneak out the back with a several bag full of ghost.
So not dummies, just people very very very much hoping that someone else (like the fire department) is going to put out the fire before it gets to them.

You see Ascii is technically incorrect in terms of B-Class. More along the line of A-Group and B-Group. So no need to be cynical.

Now, I have to do story with 1 character and then repeat the exact same instances for achievements. If I want to do it with a different char, I have to complete the exact same story again completely before I can try for an achievement.

It’s a really pointless design decision and it’s hurting my enjoyment of the game.

You know delayed gratification is technically more gratifying than instant gratification right?

What i would like instead is that after the first playthrough achievements become unlocked for all your characters.

Doesn’t it work that way already? Might have changed for episode 3 but for episode 2 I know for a fact when I did the episode on my alt I was unlocking some achievements.

Except, as we’ve seen through Dream and Nightmare, the Pale Tree doesn’t need the Avatar to speak. That thing only exists to make other races feel more comfortable when talking to the Pale Tree. Kind of like how in Mass Effect 3, EDI says the crew goes to her robotic body when they can communicate with her anywhere in the ship – the body is a familiarity to people, and more comfortable than some disembodied voice. The sylvari don’t have this discomfort, as they’ve known the disembodied voice all their life.

It still seems weird that the wardens would go to mend the Avatar.

Matter of perspective. Sylvari have physical bodies, they interact with each other physically face to face. Just because you deep down know something doesn’t mean you know know it, get what I’m saying? No probably not.
Ok so the sylvari interact in person, they interact with the pale tree in person as well, knowing the pale tree is all around them is one thing but having spent years talking to the avatar and being (because of their corporeal nature) predisposition to think and anthropomorphise (or would that he sylvarimorphise) is doesn’t really seem that odd to me.

I see nothing wrong with them rushing to mend the Avatar. Think of it like a voodoo doll of the Pale Tree. What you do to it is reflected upon the tree itself. There’s a LOT of damage to repair, but for the quick and dirty work to stop the bleeding (sap loss?), you throw all the healing you can onto the Avatar and let it carry over through the link.

Because the Pale Tree itself has stated that this avatar is useless. She can do without it and only puts it up to not scare people.

It’s like a light bulb. She turns it on so others aren’t scared. But if something happens, you don’t go rubbing your light bulb (do you ?).

Yes, but that’s like the difference between know and know-knowing… Ok so the Pale Tree sees the avatar as useless, but it doesn’t follow that the Sylvari think of it that way, or that they think of the Pale Tree as not being the avatar.
You see facts don’t matter when it comes to perception.

It was good, but now that I think of it afterwards, being in a game sense. If the pale tree died, they would have to change up the main storyline because she is required for the main story. However, the other leaders, they aren’t required unless you play that certain race, so its alright if the other leaders died but the pale tree, they wont let her die because they’ll have to do a lot of changing in the game then.

That’d be like the main character of a movie died halfway through the movie, how often do you see that… Never.

Main story (assuming you’re referring to Personal Story) is technically set in the past, we’re playing in the future. I know it’s complicated but it’s a MMO thing, everyone’s a time traveler.

Well, as they released the new article on the day they implemented the sale I guess I can see why you considered it unfair (ANet should probably give forewarning when these sort of things occurs).
Well if the $20 is that important, you could change the current email your using for your account (since as the red post said that email will no longer be usable) order a refund and then buy the cheaper version and use your preferred email (I think that should work? Maybe).

I want to know how to get out of the small area of Prospect Valley or what ever it’s called I can’t move west or North sure would be nice if someone would update Wiki on how to get around in Living World in Dry Top or show us on You Tube.

In the small town in the starting areas is a small room (Scarlets room), it’s on the west side. Go through the room, down the stares follow the path and you’ll get to the next area. Follow the path westwards until you get to the vine bridge, take the one of the west side and you’ll reach the 3rd area.

I’ve included a map.

Does that mean you will no longer get the rewards for doing dailies, the laurel, karma and mystic coin?

I think it’s just the achievement points.

I believe it’s like the salvage achievement, you’re capped at AP gains from dailies but can still get the rest.

I’m not ok with uniting with the Charr, but I guess we don’t get to choose.

This. As an Ascalonian human, its hard for me to stomach the dialogue options I have with the charr as if we are buddy/buddy.

As far as I’m concerned, they will be the next threat to Tyria after we have gotten rid of the Elder Dragons.

Even as a Charr-fan this is probably very true. They’re a militaristic nation of born and bred warriors, no way they’d just sit ideally around during peace times.

Megaserver destroys world bosses

CureForLiving.5360

I like the mega server, my server was empty and lonely before it. I don’t know why you complaining, does the drops decrease or something. You guys are only the minority, there are plenty of people that enjoys it.

Megaserver was a boon in many regards. However it did also lead to situation where the world bosses are overrun by too many players. This however isn’t necessarily a issue with the megaserver but merely with the mechanics at play, when initially designing (and then various changes over time) the bosses they never really had decent mechanics to handle a hundred people at once. So removing them from the megaserver, or altering the number of people allowed isn’t so much a solution as much as a band-aid. Even before megaserver we’ve had these sort of issues with world bosses being swarmed by the zerg.

T&C getting abused daily.

Everyone tries to force everyone else to play the game their way. It’s because everyone thinks they are the best.

You can easily add anyone to a block list so you don’t have to see their rants. Odds are if someone says “F£$%^&G NOOBS, ARE YOU IDIOTS???!!” they will never have anything to say you want to read.

Report and block. Leave it in the hands of ANet, if enough people remember to report eventually someone will take action.

Dragon's Reach Part 2 the mid season finale?

in Living World

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

If this is the mid-season finale, it does make me wonder. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, the actual scope has been smaller. We’ve gotten one map of a proposed Maguuma Wastes region, and I don’t think its realistic to say we’ll be killing one or two elder dragons within 4 more episodes, considering the scope the previous ones have been. Considering that, and timing (2 year anniversary of the game), I almost wonder if ANET is gearing up for an expansion announcement. Almost as if Season 2 is the prelude.

If they’re going to announce an expansion we can probably hope to hear something at gamescon.
I fully agree with you that 4 episodes isn’t enough for us to properly get our dragon killing on, and I’ve never felt that LW should be the primary content delivery method (more like snack during main meals). The LW can serve a very useful purpose in telling small, meaningful, character-driven stories but it get’s a bit iffy when trying to directly tackle world wide threats. Expansion packs can be where the big stuff occurs, while the LW can be a means of exploring the world and it’s lore, perhaps opening a new zone or two but primarily telling the story of DE2.0 and their adventures through Tyria.
Although that being said, ANet hasn’t given any indication that they’re working on a expansion (it’s mostly been players going on about it), and if they did announce an expansion pack we’d probably only see it coming out in a year or more likely 2 years. Well I guess ANet could have secretly been working on it in the background (they’ve been talking about these secret projects of there’s) but it would be odd not to announce anything sooner especially when so many players have been going on and on about it.

I’m the only one who doesn’t trust the Pale Tree? Probably just applying human values to a non human character, but having so many children and really only caring about the oldest ones rubs me the wrong way.

I think this is the common opinion but not necessarily true. Looking at the first born they all achieved major fame and renown (such as Trahearne who took down Zhaitan :P ), so obviously I think most other generations tend to have an inferiority complex / sibling rivalry going for them. “Oh look mommy is given them all the love and attention!” Although it would only make sense that the Pale Tree would praise her first born for their various achievements.

on LS and State of Game

in Living World

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

As much as I’m a fan of LW (and don’t think it should be removed) I think we need a clear separation between LW and other content. Not all new content should be tied to LW, sure we can get a LW themed dungeon or new zones but LW shouldn’t be the primary means of content delivery.
At the start of LW we were told LW was only 1 team working on content (I even looked up the link! https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-outlines-guild-wars-2-live-game-development/). Now not all of them were content producers, but there was a clear distinction between LW, Holiday Events, PvP and Bonus Team (which looked like primarily ad-hoc feature-related team).
However I’m unsure about these teams anymore presently it looks like everything is LW based, for example holiday events aren’t their own thing anymore they’re just a part of the LW.
Now since I don’t know what goes on behind the scene (and ANet isn’t telling us) I’m only guessing here.

I think LW needs to be split up or at least ANet should put together a dungeon/fractal-team whose job it is to refine current dungeons, add new paths and completely new dungeons. Disconnecting them from the LW team means less pressure to sync up the work, allowing content to be delivered when done. Possibly splitting up the LW team into a Narrative-focused-LW (like we have now) and a content-focused-LW (new events, zones, mobs, world bosses etc.) team could also be useful, allowing the one team to still tell the LW story, while the other team slowly expand the world with some new zones, or more likely new events and world bosses.
Although I do know that adding more teams means more difficulty in managing cross team communications (you don’t want multiple content producing teams making conflicting content, or content for the same zones), but still multiple steams of content delivery might resolve some of the issues that people have with the LW only content delivery.

Yes there are some good cutscenes that they could let you see again. They did it for one event but i believe they should expand it. A book when you double click it should have a list come up of all major cutscenes so we can enjoy some highlights of the times past. They have already made the scenes so why not show them off. BUT make it available to everyone (maybe a historian npc gives you the book after a quest) rather than gems or RNG

Agreed. Maybe at the end of LS2 there will be a cutscene book.

Well they could try and integrate it into the current Story UI, although it’s not really ideally formatted to allow it. Still something like a book would be great.

It would be great if there would be an asura who made a well of memories and is showing it in Rata Sum. By going to rata sum and paying the Asura 50 copper he will show you your memories by looking into the well. This way you can see all The cutscenes that have ever been in the in the living world.

If it’s Asura it would probably be a hologram, but yeah that’s another idea. We could put bards or something in places like Divinity’s Reach and Hoelbrak.

Pale Tree Vision *Spoilers*

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Not necessarily, most likely just ANet deciding that reusing models is easier than creating new ones.

If you play sylvari, the Pale Tree says you know this powerful Mordrem from your Dream (just before the Shadow of the Dragon spawns). Afterwards, Trahearne will ask if you remember the Shadow from your Dream which you confirm, and then your PC says that you feel the call of your Wyld Hunt again, and after asking Trahearne if it was a new one (why would he know, exactly?) Trahearne says that it’s the same, just a new stage of it – meaning that apparently your Wyld Hunt was only put on hold with Zhaitan’s defeat, not completed as the PC said during Victory or Defeat’s celebration. Finally, if you talk to Braham at the end, you’ll tell him you fought the Shadow of the Dragon before in your Dream – mentioning it as the same one.

It’s not just “new enemy, same model/name” it’s the same enemy.

So it’s a retcon then Well not a big one, but still.

Why isn't Kasmeer a noble anymore?

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Though, on a different note . . . in reality whomever was the King/Queen/Emperor was less important than to whom you were required to pay taxes or tithe to. Sure, the King might be a great guy and popular with his subjects . . . but was the local lord any good for the serfs? The King might be a generous soul, but would the local lord then take more for each bonus given by royal decree?

To translate this into Krytan, it is possible Queen Jennah might want the common folk to have every advantage which they can have under her rule. However, those who are closer to those people and hold higher office can easily make it a moot point and claim it’s only the law and will of the Crown which permits this.

And this, my friends and neighbors, is how a good and just ruler can get overthrown by popular opinion.

Well the system of lords was in place because of the clear technological limitations at the time, a king could literally not govern a country all on his own especially if every order needs to go by horse back over a week long journey. The lords were given small easily managed areas and they’d run the day to day stuff while the king would be more in command of them.
Krytan nobility doesn’t seem to play such a role actually. They seem more to be a legacy of such a times. The Krytan kingdom is not (from what we see in game) so large (or at least densely populated enough) that there is a need for complicated hierarchy, and most nobles live in Divinity’s Reach in anycase so they’re not governing anything. Most likely when Kryta was less stable, the system of lords was implemented, as things became more stable nobles remained nobles but no longer had some same role as feudal lords so some moved into the ministry, others just hung around throwing fancy parties.

The entire time I did that mission I was like “This guy could really use a fireball to the crotch”

I wanted a ferocity response along the lines of “Your HEAD will be attending the summit. If you want it to still be attached to the rest of you, I suggest you start walking it over there right NOW.”

+10 to this. Totally wanted to kill them over helping them

More agency! But yeah giving us the option to either stand with Taimi and fight against Phlunt and his lackeys (and as such force them to go to the summit) or stand with Phlunt and then have things play out as they do now would have been a better.

Children that are building machinery that’s capable of affecting global security should definitely never be supervised and taking their doomsday devices away is just mean.

Different strokes for different folks. That’s not the issue, the issue is the lack of choice and agency, even superficial choice such as a couple of different dialog options.

100% Ferocity character. I was ready to bite Taimi’s head off for almost getting herself, and ME, killed. Phlunt said he’d give the device back after she graduated, I just wanted the option to ask Phlunt’s absolute assurance that the device is her invention and would stay that way.

See we don’t necessarily need complicated branching missions, simply more dialog options would be sufficient in most of these sorts of cases.

We need also a button to skip the fights. It is very annoying to have boring fights until you can follow the next dialog.

Stupid comment. Hearing same dialog second time is waste of time, there should be button to skip dialogs.

Not necessarily stupid. Sarcastic sure. Although it is a good example of argumentum ad absurdum.

As a roleplayer it feels terrible to advocate skipping haha, but especially with the summit part I totally agree that that option would be a good thing for the achievement playthroughs. Should be unskippable the first time of course! Since it’s an RPG, sitting through the story at least once should be mandatory!

This would be the better idea. Once completed give us the option to replay story more or replay achievement mode (i.e. no dialog).

Im not ok with giving away Taimi’s hard work, even if its for the greater good, I would just make them with my Might. I goes against things I believe in.

There I was this big, bad, mean-looking Charr looming over these tiny Asura and the best I could do is passively listen…

I’m not ok with uniting with the Charr, but I guess we don’t get to choose.

Well I guess that brings up the crux of the situation. How much agency must we have? I understand not being able to impact who we bring to the table, but we could at least have some choices in how we bring them to the table.
In the case of Taimi… well I like Taimi! This feels like a smaller more personal instance, the result has to be fixed (we get the Asura to the summit, for the greater good) but how we get there should have given us some more agency.
What I’m say is, we should have been given the choice to crack some skulls :P
But then again I guess ANet is constrained in terms of how much resources they can spend on giving us branching plot lines.

Man so much negativity here, and I came thinking this was just a little joking thread :/

I for one thought the story was awesome, especially the World Summit.

Me, too actually. It’s because the story has pulled me in that I wish I could have helped Taimi out a bit more :P

Maybe the writers have taken some of GoTs (and other soap operas) writing to heart, because this sort of emotional manipulation of the audience is exactly what they do to keep you hooked.

Don’t worry, eventually the villain gets their comeuppance.

It’s a complement towards the story writing that they’re able to get us interested enough to allow for emotional manipulation.

It doesn’t matter what the excuse is. The point is, it forces the player to do nothing about the fact that his/her friend is getting screwed over. That’s not how friends act in real life. In fact, if you were a commander in real life, you would probably still be biased toward your friend, instead of deferring to some schmuck just to keep the peace.

The problem isn’t the way we acted since different players have different interpretations of their characters (as we can see in this thread) and I’m sure that there are a lot of players who didn’t find this to be unrealistic. It’s that there wasn’t more variety provided in how we deal with the situation.

I’m not ok with uniting with the Charr, but I guess we don’t get to choose.

Agreed.

I’ll never forget what they did to Ascalon.

You mean what the humans did to Charr lands :P

Destiny’s Edge is disbanded? Why would members of a disbanded guild who now have other responsibilities come to a summit which already have attendees that are experienced with dragons.

They did join up again for Zhaitan, but yeah I don’t think they’re together together again.

LS2 isn’t a personal story at all. It’s a scripted event.

I felt this in ‘The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2’ more than in any other part of the game.

Not necessarily a bad thing, since the story is pretty good (for me at least). Just that more interaction would make it better, this being a video game and all.

Maybe we’re not seeing the forest for the trees? Or is that the trees for the forest?!

Anyway Avatar of the Pale Tree != Pale Tree. Or that’s my thinking in any case, you know like how your monitor is not your computer. The part we see isn’t the whole.
