There is an option under the general options tab that enables, in effect, sticky targeting. It won’t drop your target until you click on someone else. It’s a god send in WvW.
I think the point is that the game often registers things that aren’t clicks, as clicks. Like when you move the camera quickly, or sometimes even just while standing near something.

I personally wouldn’t charge for my portals for the following reasons:
1) People will flame you in chat for it.
2) Another mesmer will most likely offer it for free.
3) People are less likely to give you money because they think you are greedy.
4) I find charging a large amount excludes the poorer players.
5) I get enough money from tips.
6) I’d feel bad about taking advantage of people that can’t do jp’s.

Would be terrible for the ori-prices if anyone could make a new char, gather the ori in Southsun and then delete the character and make a new one to gather the ori again.
You see what would be the problem?
That would definitely not be worth the time it takes to do.

As a mesmer, I don’t ask for payment or tips, so the tipping is varied. I can tell you though that the most common amount people tip me is 50s (about 50%). About 25% tip 1g, and the rest are usually 20s or less.
On average, I’d say about 1 in 4 players tip.

Not that I know and I also wouldn’t expect DX11 before the first expansion pack.
Um, there won’t be expansion packs. Living story is the expansions, remember? I’m not trolling either. They said they have no plans for an actual “expansion” but rather a full year planned of living story.
IIRC, they said there won’t be any campaigns released, which was the main strategy used in GW1 (3 campaigns + 1 expansion). Their new content will be released in expansions instead.

The golems actually play that song specifically when the day-and-night cycle switches from day to night. A little extra info. Also, I’m pretty sure that the ditty is part of, or at least inspired by, Snaff’s Workshop from the OST.
As for the ditty…
It’s been slightly edited, as far as I can tell, so it just says “good morning” three times, rather than the (I think) “Bonjour. Good morning. Guten morgen.”
I’ll look around some more to see if I can find the original.
Le edit: Nope, can’t seem to find a proper recording of the original. Might possibly do it myself if I find myself with an extra supply of time units, but don’t count on it.

I’m curious as to what titles people like to display and why. Do you do it because it’s the newest title available? Do you do it because it sounds cool? Do you do it because it shows some achievement or prestige? Do you do it because you don’t have access to any others? Tell me! I’ll start.
I started off displaying “Flameseeker” because it has a nice ring to it and I liked the connection to GW1. Also I didn’t want to have the same title as every other person who just displayed their highest HoM title.
After I got 100% completion, I started displaying “Been There, Done That” because I didn’t see many people at the time showing it. It felt prestigious to me, as I was the first of my friends to get it, and 100% completion was my first major accomplishment in the game.
But then that title became rather common, and it’s redundant since you have the star anyways. So, I began displaying “Distinction in Applied Jumping”. I felt that this was a fairly difficult title to achieve, as you had to be really diligent to collect all the baubles. It was kind of like another explorer title for me. I also love the name since I’m a big fan of jumping puzzles (done them all), and always wanted a jumping-related title.
I’m not going to display “Avenger of the Dispossessed” since everyone and their mother (happy mother’s day) is displaying it right now. Although it does sound pretty cool. Same thing with the Halloween and Wintersday titles; I felt they were too common.

The jugs not stacking properly is because you got jugs from the Flame and Frost event, and those custom jugs do not stack with regular jugs. You handed in the bonus letters that you got in the dungeon while on your “random character”. You then dragged them onto your big stack and it swapped the 2 stacks, but you didn’t notice.
They don’t stack because the F&F jugs give karma based on your character’s level, rather than a flat amount like the daily jugs.

I hope you don’t consider posts like ajm.2931’s useful. It’s completely anecdotal with no reliable data.
I like ajm’s post because it details the scenario I am trying to communicate. This whole topic is based on people’s experiences. I saw people like ajm saying “I see a difference”. Now I want to find out why that difference exists. Ajm’s post is useful because it outlines one of my claims: that people say they are getting different results. Now no, I’m not going to say “this exists because ajm said so”. Rather I’m saying “ajm and dozens others said this, is there any truth to it? Give me data”. Hope this is clear enough for you

Rng is rng. Everyone will get their bad and good streaks, you just remember the bad ones more. I once combined 104 masterwork items into the forge (26 attempts) without getting a single rare. Currently on a streak of 14 failed attempts to upgrade. Then I remember a period where I got 3 upgrades in a row. Sometimes I farm and get a lodestone on second kill, other times I farmed for 10 hours on separate days and never got one. We all hate rng because it doesn’t reward effort equally and when you do get a reward, you don’t appreciate it (unless it is a precursor) because you feel like you deserved it.
Please re-read my post. I’m talking about people ALWAYS getting the same thing. You make a good point about memory bias, however I believe there is more to work here than just that. I specifically asked people to refrain from “rng is rng” posts. You clearly didn’t read my post thoroughly.
I just want to point out that there are actually some valid points in this post. However they are overshadowed by the “rng is rng” comment. You had something good to say, but countered it by going against my initial request. I’ll look past it, but please, let’s just stick to the logic and data here. You mention yourself getting good streaks, and bad. I understand that. I even said in my post that I understand that. But I’m not talking about variation in your personal experiences, I’m talking about variation between different people’s experiences.

If you can’t get on for an hour in a period of 2 weeks for the dungeon, or for 5 min in a period of 4 days for the finale, you really shouldn’t be worrying about missing out on the content. Guild Wars 2 is obviously not a big enough part of your life to warrant a complaint. If you really think GW2 content is such an important thing in your life, perhaps you should restructure your life around GW2. I mean, it can’t be THAT hard to log on once to do this content. However if you don’t think it’s worth restructuring your life, then you should just be enjoying the things that you have in your life that you think are more worthwhile spending your time on. It is a role-playing game, and if you’re lucky enough to have a role in your real life that’s worth playing, you should be happy with that and not trying to fit in a second life. I WISH I could complain about not having time to play games

I have a guild mate, we’ve both been playing since release. We’ve consistently pretty much farmed Orr the same about the whole time. He regularly gets 3-4 yellows for every one I get, and I have gotten 1 exotic in the past 5 months while he has gotten 20+.
Same Magic find, same overall time in Orr, same DEs, only difference is I play a staff ele and he’s on a ranger. The same difference with world boss chests, he consistently gets yellows form them, and I very very rarely get them
This is the perfect example of what I mean, thank you! 2 people doing the same things over a long period of time, yet getting different results. We have a large sample size and no other variables.
So what’s happening? Is the code flawed? Is his friend doing something differently but not telling him? Or is this guy lying?
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
From what I’ve learned by my own playstyle, more time in the game does not = legendary. Although it SHOULD. I’d really like to see people with legendaries and say “wow that guy put a lot of work into this game”. But really if you are going for a legendary, you are playing a different game. You are not playing Guild Wars 2, you are playing Legendary Hunt. No matter how many hours we put in, you and I will never get legendaries the way we play. You need to farm a certain way, do certain things, ignore a lot of fun content, and see the game differently to get a legendary. But you know what, I love GW2 and would never give it up for a legendary hunt. So if it happens after a couple years for me, it happens. But I would NOT gauge your completion of the game based on whether or not you have a legendary. That’s a different game all together.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
The more available something is to the public, the less prestigious it is.
To me, prestige in this game is:
1) Legendaries – massive play time
2) Commander tag (in WvW, not PvE) – leadership
3) 100% map completion – diligence
Being in the right place at the right time, and getting limited edition items is not so much prestige, as it is a status symbol. “Oh that guy’s a vet, he was here for Halloween”. I definitely do not see lucky drops as prestige because they are not a reflection on the person in any way. I don’t respect a person because they got a fused gauntlet ticket. I do however respect them for leading 100’s of people in WvW, or having explored every corner of the map. Now I may just feel this way because I’ve learned from GW1 what really is prestigious and what isn’t. I used to admire people with limited-time items, but I have since learned from that mistake. Now that I’m on an equal playing field with most players, it is easier for me to realize what is actually an achievement.
Just an aside on Legendaries: I think they are prestigious yet also pompous. I think they are pompous because anyone that has a legendary right now has specifically put many many hours and possible real money into rushing a legendary for the purpose of being admired by others. I believe legendaries are still in the “look at me, I got this before you” stage. I’ve got 850 hours in the game and I consider myself about 1/10 of my way to a legendary, if even that. I like the idea of an average player like myself being able to work my way up to a legendary over several years. I however do NOT like the idea that someone would go hardcore on the game and somehow get it in a month or so. I feel like they are going so far out of their way to say “I’m better than you, I got a legendary first”. If you want prestige ONLY for the fact that you have prestige and others don’t, you are not the kind of person I admire. However if you are an average player and have worked hard over a long period of time, I will admire you. I know some people will hate me for this paragraph, but hey, it’s my opinion. You don’t have to agree or feel the way I feel. I already know your arguments, and the reasoning behind people doing these things.

He’s talking about an informal “Fight Club” in WvW. But those are more advanced PvPers who like to test their skill against experienced opponents. Look around the PvP starting area, there are NPC’s that you can duel against. Also you can join PvP lobbies with less people in them if you don’t want to go into a full-on match. Also it doesn’t hurt to just try out a normal PvP match. Most of the really competitive people will be playing tournaments, so you won’t have to deal with them. I’ve got a friend who jumped into PvP at your level, or even sooner, and he has taught himself a lot. He also likes to look up build guides and tutorials online. It’s a lot to take in at once, so just take it step by step.
Starting your own PvP match under the rules that you want will be possible soon. They have recently added a feature called “Custom Arenas” that do just that, however it is in beta testing at the moment and is only available to a select group of people. In the future it will be a public feature, but it will cost gems to create a custom arena.
I believe spectator mode is accessible, it’s also a new feature. I’ve never used it though, so I’m the wrong person to ask. Check the wiki link the above poster mentioned.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE LOGICAL DATA TO PROVIDE, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING IN THIS THREAD. DO NOT POST WITH “RANDOM IS RANDOM”. THIS THREAD GOES DEEPER THAN THAT
I don’t farm Orr myself, but I’ve been reading people talking about it on the forums. Some people say they get 5g an hour easily, or 25g in one playing session just casually doing events in Orr. Then on the flip side, we have other people complaining that they are getting “hit by DR” after 6-8 kills, and only receive junk items for hours. Why and how does this difference exist?
I understand the concepts of random generation and un/lucky streaks, but I’m talking about repeated and reliable patterns of different people having completely different experiences. How could one person consistently fail and another succeed, at the same activities? Are some people farming incorrectly? Does the RNG use your player name to produce its random seed, and that’s why people see such consistent levels of good/bad drops? Are people lying about being able to make good profit?
I suspect it’s a bit of everything. However I’d like some knowledgeable input from:
1) people that do farm and know exactly how and why they get what they get
2) people that have tried proven tactics and failed
3) programmers or developers, ANet or anyone else, that may have an explanation
Before you post saying “random is random, people get different drops”, please re-read my post, especially the part about consistency. I just don’t understand how one camp says “I could make 1000g in a week if I wanted”, and another says “I play my butt off, but get crappy drops every single time, after being in a zone for 5 min”. People have described reliable, consistent results which they can reproduce at will. This is NOT an issue of randomness.

GW2 has 2 things that make large group raids unnecessary, or difficult to adapt to the game:
1) Scaling. Content is the same or similar regardless of the amount of people (with exceptions at very high amounts of people). There would have to be a revamp to the scaling system, or have it completely eliminated in order to accommodate missions that required lots of people. And even then, smaller guilds, solo players, etc will undoubtedly complain that they don’t have access to the content.
2) Elimination of the trinity. It Urgoz or the Deep, you needed a majority of your group to be running a specific role. With the elimination of “roles”, where everyone can pretty much do anything, there is little need for group diversity. The extent of it currently in the game is “we can’t all have light armor, or we die”. There is no complex team interaction and composition. So, a raid would be boring. Think of the Claw of Jormag fight. It’s a fairly complex fight with different stages, techniques you must use, environmental weapons, enemy spawns, obstacles, etc. However it is trivialized by the fact that you can overcome all of those challenges just with a large number of people. This is how I imagine raids would be. You lose the need for each individual person doing something different when you increase the amount of people participating.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
The story missions are not designed to be done one after the other. The level gap gives you time to explore and participate in Dynamic Events, which are the core of the game. Go back to the story once your level is high enough, sometimes even a level or 2 above the recommended level.

Players need to clear the waypoints, but players never do most of the events in this zone. It’s not a bug, just poor game design. The game needs to give players a reason play here.

So today I was in WvW fighting 1v1 with an enemy Guardian in Stonemist Castle, on top of one of the outer walls. Every couple seconds, my target would change to “Fortified Wall” because every time I used mouse controls to move the camera, the game for some reason would think I wanted to target the wall instead of the enemy player. This made it completely 100% impossible for me to fight the Guardian without standing still, which is impossible as I am a mesmer. I literally had to jump off the wall and get out of the fight because 80% of my skills were missing, due to spontaneously targeting the wall instead of the player.
This completely ruins any kind of active combat. If I want to move the camera while fighting, forget it. I move around a LOT as a mesmer. Dodging, blinking, putting up feedbacks, going stealth and moving, etc. You cannot possibly expect me to stand still while fighting, or take 2 seconds to use arrow keys to turn my characters model. Please fix this, as it is tier 1 in urgency. It is not something to be put on the back burner. Active combat is ruined by this bug!

Honestly, if World of Warcraft never had 20+ man raids, people would not be complaining about a 5 person limit to dungeons. Stop holding Guild Wars 2 to World of Warcraft standards. They are DIFFERENT GAMES. If you want to play with more people in Guild Wars 2 because you think it’s a better game, play World versus World. However if you think 20+ man raids make World of Warcraft a better game, go play THAT!
Arena Net is NOT going to read your post and go “ kitten you’re right, let’s add 10 man dungeons”. They will do what they want, when they want, because it’s their game. You can give suggestions to improve this game, and if enough people bring attention to those suggestions, they may be implemented. However do NOT criticize this game for doing something different from another game, and say it needs to change simply because it is different. The game in a whole is not 5-man, only dungeons. So don’t judge an entire game by your so-called “standards” of what an MMO should be, based on just one aspect of the game.

They did it to slow the gear grind down. They want gear progression to go up as the game gets older, rather than have you grind out all your max gear in a week, then have no more gear-oriented goals. Also it’s 30 laurels per amulet, and you get 10 from monthlies, so it’s not THAT bad.
While I don’t want multiple dailies (shiver) i do think that the laurel system is alt unfriendly. To get amulets for each of my alts it will take 180 laurels. Assuming you get 40 laurels every 30 days, it will take 4-5 months. That’s not terrible, but it’s not great either.
And no I don’t want everything NOW, kitten lazy entitled whatever else some troll is going to post.
I’ve just got to say, as someone with over 700 hours in the game, I could never handle more than one level 80. To have 6 level 80’s, you have got to be willing to do a LOT of work to maintain all of them. You give yourself an incredibly difficult challenge, and then complain that the game makes it too hard for you to keep up. Well duh, of course! If you guys can’t handle the amount of work it takes to gear up 5+ characters, then DON’T!
Mate, they wont die if you don’t feed them!
If he sticks with his 6 80s and continually plays at his own pace and in his own way for the next two years then there is a good chance that he will better off than someone who stuck to just one 80. Or maybe not. But we don’t know what Anet will introduce into the game later.
And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. In my opinion the only thing alt-unfriendly is storage.
My point exactly, “mate”. It’s a long term investment. Yet the OP wants immediate satisfaction when using a long term strategy. I’m fine with it taking 2 years, he isn’t.
