Hey guys, I’d like to get into the CoF path 1 farming trend before they nerf it. I get the impression that it’s quite an elitist run, and I don’t want to hop into a group having never done it before. I’ve watched some videos, but there’s nothing like practical experience. Does anyone run with some guildies or a few friends, and would be willing to bring a new person along to teach the run to? I can voice chat as well. I run a mesmer, slowly transitioning from rabid into berz. I’m planning on running CoF to get the rest of my berz gear.
Thanks!

So in about 12 hours, shortbow has gone from 16 for sale, to about 65 for sale. And all the others have roughly doubled in quantity. So it’s obvious people are hoarding them.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
WvW is quite a combination of PvP and PvE. You don’t need to do any PvP activity to get the map completion here. Just run when and where things are safe.

Wait what, I care about clipping…

This has got to be people just doing it for future profit. I don’t see anyone buying a GS skin for 70g at this time for use. It’s much easier to farm 50 bubbles. Anyone buying these skins has a lot of gold to invest and is planning to resell them in the future. The rich get richer!
The real question is: is it worth it for me to dump my GW2 life savings into a couple shortbows right now because that’s the only thing I can afford, and hope to make a profit?
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
What tactic do you guys suggest? The W1-M2 digging speedrun?
I did the math, and for me, the most profitable run is all 3 zones, and hitting the most convenient dig spots in zone 2. I usually end with about 275 baubles. A few tips:
1) Watch a video. You’d be surprised how many jumps and shortcuts you don’t know about.
2) Use the slingshot to take down King Toad. You can do it in 2 jewel shards solo, and only costs you about 30 baubles.
Most people don’t like to run zone 3 because they don’t know the fast way to get through the zone, and kill King Toad. It’s just as fast as zone 2 though. If you want more detail, feel free to PM me in game. Takes me about an hour and a half for all 5 characters, including all loading times, use of storage, etc.

So I’ve been playing on NSP server and we’ve been matched against SF and HoD for several weeks in a row now. SF absolutely dominates. At the time of writing, they control the entire EB map, which I have never seen before. By the end of the rotation, they generally have twice as many points as either of the other servers in this bracket. It obvious that they have a LOT more active players in WvW. This is fine, they have earned their victory.
My questions are as follows: why are they not increasing in their rank so that they can face a server of similar skill/participation level? I figure the server ranking system is so that servers are matched against similar opponents, so why is the competition in this bracket so uneven? It’s not just that SF has a slight advantage over HoD and NSP. It’s night and day here. WvW is becoming very unfun and uncompetitive because of the uneven matchup. Lots of un’s! I don’t like un’s…

I would like to see this reportable. I’ve heard of lots of guilds running with pugs and kicking people at the final boss. This should not be accepted.
However I think it needs to be a very loose restriction because if somebody deserves to be kicked for whatever reason, and it happens to be at the final boss, they should be kicked. This happened once in a party of mine where we had an elitist kittenmuffin insulting the team the whole way through the dungeon, and we got fed up near the end and kicked him.

Sorry if i missed it but can we save these Baubles till the next SAB installment, as i’d hate to keep say 250 and find out they are useless in future patches..
The future of SAB is very up in the air right now. I would not hold onto any baubles if I were you. If SAB is re-released, then the baubles will most likely be useable. However they would also most likely be farmable again. It’s not worth the risk. For all we know, Josh Foreman could get fired for being so transparent and reasonable with the community, and we would never see SAB again.

I’m sick of people complaining about “limited time only” things existing. That’s what life is. You miss opportunities, people will have things you do not. If everybody had exactly the same thing, there would be no value in having anything. I want to be who I am and have my real life and my life in the game shaped by what I experience in life. I lost a chance to invest in Apple before it became huge. You missed the opening round of SAB. Things happen, life moves on, and then other things happen.

If someone shows me an exploit, my normal reaction is “Cool, but I don’t want to get banned. You should stop using it as well for that reason.”

Also people think we’re perma invulnerable. We have 3 invulnerability skills.
As a lifetime Thief the last thing I wanna do is to scream nerf on a sister class, but I gotta call shenanigans on this one. “Oh no, we only have 3 invulnerability skills!” … you’re bleeding me, right? As a Thief we have … oh, what’s that, none? And just to balance things out they butchered stealth for PvE too? Huh … not feeling a lot of sympathy here.
Seriously, sucks for anyone what gets nerfed every time they turn around – we Thieves know all about that – but maybe you’re focusing on the wrong “weak points” in your class here.
Who needs invulnerability when you have perma stealth?

I’m getting bloody sick of hearing monkey noises from mini pets and having the instinct to dodge or sidestep. Even when I know it’s there and not going to hurt me, it still bothers me. The sounds need to play once every 5 min…not 5 sec.

The only point would be to have a reward unlock system where you either spend points like a currency, or unlock rewards based on your total points. They were/are supposed to be adding a system like this.
As a ranking system however, there’s no point.
Why does everything have to be a new minipet with you people?
Can’t you appreciate things just for what they are?
What’s there to appreciate? The “achievement” part of it really just measures the length of time people have played the game, and not actual achievement! Yeah, let’s make a leaderboard for that!
So since it’s not a valid measure of achievement at all, perhaps it’s a currency? That would make sense: the more time you spend in a game, the more you get, and then you can spend it on loot. Just like gold. Or karma. Or laurels, guild commendations, dungeon tokens, etc etc. Well no, it’s not.
So what are achievement points? For me it’s a way to tell how experienced a person is at the game, and who I should be wary of letting into my fractal groups. That’s it, unfortunately.

PvP? What’s PvP?
Nope. Never PvPed in GW2. Wouldn’t know where to start, and don’t care to. Good thought though.
Wow way to go being an idiot to the person who was actually answering the question. He was right though if you have the same runes in your pve/pvp armorset it counts both.
Are you saying I have a PvP armor set reserved for me someplace, even though I have never been there? And that maybe it has Superior Runes of the Ranger in it? How do I get to PvP to check it out?
Yes.
Press the PvP button (next to the hints button). Your armour will have changed. Get rid of it or change the runes in PvP.

When someone has played a game for 3000+ hours, they are probably going to run out of things to do. Well I’d assume so at least. I haven’t gotten that far in any game. But honestly, if you get 3000 hours of enjoyment for $60, you have no need to complain.

It resets when the dailies reset. However make sure you create the instance AFTER the reset. Example: if your reset is at 8pm, and you enter at 7:50, and finish at 8:15, you will not get credit. You would have to enter after 8.

I find it weird that so many people think the keypad is an obscure way to move your character. WASD is used for movement only because the Qwerty keyboard was designed with the intention of being used with 2 hands. Thus, there was no problem with using arrow keys to move. However with the introduction of the RPG, the mouse has become a more integral part of gaming, and the left hand had to start being used for movement. I’m in my early 20’s and the computer games I grew up on always used arrow keys for movement, because that logically made sense. Up is up, left is left, etc.
hasn’t been like that since the 80’s before the mouse was even used in games. Not only the mouse being used increasingly more in games with the advent of the FPS in the early 90’s, but also the fact that consoles used left hand = movement, right hand = actions influenced it.
I suppose it’s different for me because I’ve never been much of a console gamer. I played a lot of MS DOS games as a kid, and there was no mouse for them. Although I did play the gameboy a lot as a kid. So idk, maybe my hands are ambidextrous for game movement.

You can burn down any sticky plants with the candle, and jump on the outer portion of the venus fly traps to avoid being eaten. The sticky plants near the first checkpoint can be burnt by standing below them, activating the candle, and then jumping.

So I’ve played through SAB more times than I care to think about, and I’m always looking for something new. What kinds of things have you guys found that go way beyond the normal play of the game. I’m not talking about dig spots or secret rooms, but maybe jumps that you found that you are not supposed to do, or glitches.
For instance, someone posted that they found a way to get to the toads above King Toad. Another example: I saw a video on youtube by someone that was able to out-world and found Josh’s jump measuring tool. So how have you guys bent the game to your will to find new and exciting things?
A curiosity I have: what happens when you kill King Toad’s amulet before killing King Toad himself?

It’s actually all the way up in the tree trunk where you jump on the mushrooms, if you know what place I mean.
Which tree? The horizontal one that spans the top of most of the area before the final checkpoint, or the vertical one with the bouncy mushrooms inside that leads to Moto’s Breath? And where is the jump you need to make to get to the off-bounds area? I can’t find the place you are talking about! I’d love to know this, thanks!

Lions Arch physically changes, however the people walking through LA are still having the same conversations and doing the same things. I see this as we, the players, being on a different level of reality from the NPC’s. The world changes around us, and they are there for…flavour or something. I don’t know, it doesn’t seem to make sense lore-wise. All I know is it would be too much hassle to give every NPC a living storyline of their own, so they are instead in a kind of time-lock, always doing the exact same thing.

It suddenly appeared because not all content has been added to the game. As someone else mentioned, just because it is not playable content yet in a game, does not mean it doesn’t exist in Guild Wars lore. If this were so, nothing of this world would have existed before Guild Wars was released, however we do know that there is lots of historical lore, and Tyria was not created with the creation of the game. If you seriously are going to be fanatical about role-playing here, you need to take that into account. Limiting yourself to only what you can see and access in the game is a very narrow-viewed approach to role-playing.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
IMO, Living Storylines are just distractions for the antsy players. Many people complain about lack of new content, for not knowing the difficulty in creating such content. Thus, ANet releases lackluster Living Stories that obviously take FAR LESS effort to create than permanent content additions. They do this to appease a crowd of impatient gamers that don’t know the first thing about game design, while ANet continually works on permanent content to be added in the future. Living Story is not being added instead of permanent content, it is being added in the meantime because it takes comparably less effort to create.
I don’t know the facts or numbers, but these are just my observations of the corporate behaviour.

Hubby and I got our 150 early in the month. It did take some dedicated work to get them considering the knockbacks and spawned/spawning mobs. .
Props to you for completing it, but you’ve got to be kidding me. Your limiting factor was the difficulty of the mobs, and not the hours it takes to locate 150 periscopes (even with a guide)? You must have unlimited time on your hands for the difficulty of the mobs to be your primary issue here! I believe the mobs and periscopes (with the new nerfs) are completely balanced and fun to fight. But the time you have to invest in hunting the periscopes down one by one is ridiculous. Apologies if you guys are just low level, as I could imagine how that might be harder.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Most of the time I get my dailies just naturally through the course of the game, without even trying. However this may be because I do lots of world bosses and WvW, so I get some of the more awkward dailies like the ones dealing with group events, events in certain areas, WvW kills, yak kills, kills in certain areas, etc. I’ve got to get pretty unlucky to feel “forced” to do dailies, and even then I don’t mind since it’s only once or twice a week. I’d advise always doing dailies for the laurels alone since they are at the very worst worth 80+ silver if you use them to buy dyes. I always look forward to dailies since the reward is a lot compared to the needed effort.
Now if you have a very narrow playstyle or only play for maybe an hour or 2 a day, I can understand how dailies could feel like a grind, and they would get in the way of other activities. A friend of mine falls into that category, so he likes to get his dailies through pvp instead. And even if you don’t like that idea, feel free to skip the odd day when the daily achievement choices don’t suit you. It’s just an opportunity for profit, it doesn’t really give you character progression, so you should never feel forced to do them.
Also on the comments about dailies being for armour grind: really? You need 30 laurels for an ascended amulet, and then you are done. There are far better ways to get the rest of the trinkets. Ascended gear is top tier and not meant to be achievable quickly, nor is it impactful enough to even worry about (just get it when you can, no need to rush it). And on top of that, it’s not really necessary. All your armour and weapons are still going to be exotic. Backpacks and rings will come from fractals, and accessories will come from guild commendations. I hardly equate dailies with “armour grinding”. It’s more of a grind to get the ectos than the laurels, if that’s how you plan on getting your ascended trinkets. And if you have decided to take on the responsibility of getting 5 characters to lv 80 and fully gearing them all, that’s your own kitten fault, so expect it to be hard work. I know what I can handle, so I only have one level 80, and I like it that way.

Not sure why there is so much fuss about this month’s monthlies. Dailies, vets, and events come naturally through playing the game. You only need to do fractals 3 times to get that achievement. And even after I had done those, I accidentally got the WvW player kills monthly. And 12 jumping puzzles in a month is pretty soft as well.
I wouldn’t even go near the audio log achievement. I’ve been picking them up as I see them, not looking for them, and I’ve gotten about 30 so far this month. 150 is not a reasonable number to expect people to “naturally” come across, unless they are playing through all Flame & Frost content on every character, and farming the low level zones on top of that. However the other achievements are definitely viable throughout the “natural” course of playing the game.

So I just started practicing this dodge-jump thing since there’s so much hype about it. It seemed pretty easy if I pressed R to start running, then moved my 2 fingers to V and space. Worked almost every time, although it’s awkward to use auto-run and have to manually stop yourself from running. Using forward (W) + V and space was harder for me to co-ordinate though.

All my alts have everything because I’m a completionist like that. Really though if your sole intent is just speed farming, you only need the shovel. Slingshot is nice because it lets you kill King Toad in 2 crystals instead of 3, and candle is free so why not. Whip is also cool to stun alligators at long range, but not needed.
Whether or not you get the purse depends on how you run it. I like to hit a lot of good dig spots, so I hit 300+ baubles by the time I get to the end. However if you just want to minimize time and only go for the bubbles from the bosses, you wouldn’t need shovel or purse.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Nice thread, I just wanted to mention that I don’t support OP’s #2 suggestion. I don’t think any reward should be available to every type of player. There are certain things like prestige and a feeling of accomplishment that come from being able to rightfully earn good rewards that others can’t. Each niche of the game, whether it be dungeons, pvp, wvw, puzzles, story, etc, will never appeal to every single player. But because some people don’t like or can’t do puzzles, doesn’t mean people that want to do them should be denied a good reward. I’ve got a friend who hates puzzles, but loves pvp, and he is rightfully rewarded for what he can do in pvp. Should be the same for puzzles.
There’s a difference between someone being left out of a specific part of the game, and someone being left out of the entire game. Take legendaries for example: if they were easily achievable, they would be pointless. People often need solid loot for that feeling of accomplishment, and such a feeling is made better by the fact that not everyone in the game can get it. However everyone can still get something, which is what matters.
It’s not like we’re inventing a new tier of gear that only SAB masters can get. But perhaps SAB masters have the right to a cool new skin or perhaps some other creative reward that isn’t a skin or title.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Just my 2 cents on what makes a jumping puzzle hard: there are 2 factors, jumps and timing. I have little problem with hard/long/awkward jumps (most times), but I find if I’m rushed due to a timer or enemies chasing me, every jump becomes hard. Clock Tower’s actual jumps were pretty easy, however the rush factor is what made that puzzle completely impossible for me. So remember when you are judging how “hard” a puzzle is, different people find different things hard.

I don’t understand why people think they need to dodge-jump (I don’t even know what that is, but it sounds like it makes you jump farther). I believe that every jump in the game that you are supposed to be able to make is doable with a regular jump without swiftness. It seems that this dodge-jump thing is an exploit.
If you are having trouble making a particular jump, note that there is a short moment just before you fall of a ledge (from running) that you can initiate a jump from (allowing you to get a bit farther than you would if you had jumped earlier). This is the technique I use in places like SAB world 1, zone 1, where there is a very difficult jump in which you need to grab 3 baubles mid-air in an arc formation.
I imagine that it is very hard to design every part of every map when considering where people can jump, and where they should not be allowed to jump to. Adding a double-jump to the game would introduce so many new variables and would probably require the redesigning of a lot of places, since new areas would now be accessible via said double-jump. I believe this is why they removed the double-jump bug that used to exist when jumping up slopes or walls, if you spammed the jump button really fast.
