I don’t think any class should be able to kill you in 2-3 hits, where the only prerequisite to such a kill is that they get in melee range of you. And then when they somehow fail to kill you, they are able to go invisible most, if not all, of the time. No class should be able to have such amazing offensive and defensive power.
I spent my first few months of casual WvW play getting instantly killed by thieves. Now, as a soldier’s statted mesmer, I’ve learned the tricks to avoid their burst. However I can still never kill them, as they just shadowstep and stealth away.

They did it to slow the gear grind down. They want gear progression to go up as the game gets older, rather than have you grind out all your max gear in a week, then have no more gear-oriented goals. Also it’s 30 laurels per amulet, and you get 10 from monthlies, so it’s not THAT bad.

I think I resolved this issue with my post on page 7. However you guys just seem to want to argue with each other for argument’s sake. Just think: if I don’t want to read through all your bickering, will anyone else? Will ANet?

The focus on GW2 combat is dynamic fighting (movement, dodging, positioning, timing), rather than having a large ability pool. Think of it this way: instead of having an ability for each different situation, each situation requires the use of the combat mechanics in combination with multi-faceted abilities to make each fight unique. This is more prevalent in PvP and WvW, and less so in a lot of PvE, however it is still there.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
PvP gear is a little different, unfortunately. Check this page for all the combinations: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats

And can someone point me now that better loot? Cause 97% of players skip half the dungeon and ALL farming spots have been NERFED. So where is that better loot?
MF relates to your chance to find better loot from killing one specific mob. This is not a discussion about the viability of farming, and the effectiveness of MF in a farming situation. That’s another discussion. Valid point, but out of place.
Remember, all other variables must be taken to be equal. Kill one mob, receive loot from that one mob. MF is clearly better in this situation because the time you would save killing that mob in offensive gear is not great enough to outweigh the increased chance of rare loot. Or is it…? Perhaps MF is actually very useless and the results of using it are negligible. However that is also another discussion entirely.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Quite simply: MF is the only non-combat-related stat that is on gear. In terms of combat, it can never match up. Defensive stats keep you alive so you can deal more damage over time. Offensive stats kill enemies faster so they deal less total damage to you. Bad.
The only place MF is balanced is in solo play where killing enemies slower is a trade-off for getting better loot. However since most of your damage and survivability comes from your base stats/weapon dmg/armor, it is definitely a better trade-off to use MF gear in solo play. So this forces people to use MF gear in solo play for best results. Bad.
All arguments based on skill being more important than gear stats here are void. Yes I agree that skill is more important. However we are looking at this purely from a gear standpoint, where skill is NOT a variable. Unless there is a correlation between skill level and tendency to use MF gear, which there isn’t so far, one should not consider skill level in this argument. For proper comparison, ALL non-MF variables must be considered equal, and that includes skill level.
Conclusion: remove MF from gear. It is not combat-related, and does not belong in a pool with other stats that are only combat-related. Alternatively, add more non-combat-related stats to gear and create even more of a fuss (bad).

I’d much rather see a token trader… If i don’t want to play a certain dungeon, but want the skin i shouldn’t be forced to play it. There really isn’t a good reason for all these currencies other than forcing people to play content they might not enjoy. I get the wvw badges however and the glory. But, pve gated stuff is silly. I like the concept behind it, just not the implementation. If i run Arah because i enjoy it, why can’t i get CM stuff? CM takes 1/3 of the time to run.
Flip it around. Arah is a challenge, and if you complete a challenge you will be rewarded. The challenge is removed if you just run CM or CoF and can then get Arah gear just as easily.
A proposed solution: have one dungeon currency. Make the harder dungeons reward more currency, and make the corresponding rewards from those dungeons more expensive. So running CM would give you 50 tokens, running Arah would give you 100 tokens, a CM weapon would cost 200 tokens, and an Arah weapon would cost 400 tokens. Just an example, numbers could change.
But above all: make the tokens NOT take up inventory space.

Honestly this matchup is 10x better than NSP/HoD/SF. I was playing for 4 hours straight with SM being almost constantly contested, with groups of varying sizes coming at all sides, and enjoyed every moment of it. It was so fun to play, a big thanks to all 3 servers! Sure beats 150+ man fights in SM lord room.

This is high priority for me. It directly interferes with combat on a very intrusive level, and is seen incredibly commonly. Number one combat mechanic problem for me. Please take this seriously.

MONK! But not like GW1 “all I do is heal” monk, but rather monks as they are supposed to be. Perhaps a medium-armoured close range fighter with spiritual/defensive powers. Kind of combination of Thief and Guardian: hit-and-run tactics, but not high burst dmg, balanced with durability, but not tankability. Very active combat, lots of defensive play required. Kind of like a melee Mesmer…you know how Mesmers are always dodging and distorting, etc.

I was under the impression that it was just the “one of everything” kind of item. I don’t see it as having 4 primary stats. MF is just another stat. People use them if they want a balanced stat-build and/or higher total stats.

There are some zones I frequent more than others, sure, but that partly because I have no real reason to visit a lot of the zones anymore.
I have about 700 hours in the game, and my first major task was world completion. I zoomed through a lot of areas and got my 100%, then didn’t go back to them because I ‘had no real reason to’. But then we have to think: well, what is the reason we go to explorable areas in the first place? Farm bosses, run to dungeons, farm rare materials. We don’t ever actually think about the DE’s. The ‘real reason’ to visit those areas is in fact the DE’s.
The problem is we don’t know what we are looking for or where to look, and we don’t want to spend hours aimlessly walking around in fear of being disappointed. Well guess what, that’s the way the game is designed. You don’t know what you want until you find it, and you won’t find it until you look. And if you look online for a guide or wiki that tells you what to look for, you won’t be surprised and your experience of the game will be lackluster. THAT is the problem the majority of players have. People don’t want to find things themselves, and either stick to what someone else has shown them, or stick to the regular routine of farming bosses, dungeons, and ori nodes.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret: if content is your desire, you will be pleasantly surprised if you follow the flow of the game and explore new places. I mean actually explore and investigate. The game is very well designed in that content is very intuitive. Things happen where you’d want them to happen, but you think “nah that would be too cool, they wouldn’t think of adding that”. Forget about the rewards and the map completion. Go to some corner of a random zone and find something happening. There is always something happening somewhere, and I bet you’ve never seen it before!

Just a curiosity, but didn’t Colin mention Molten Facility being story mode only, but having slightly different paths every time you enter it?

Try them all. Nobody here can really help you, since everyone has their own tastes. Personally, I plan to have:
Mes
Ele
War
Thief
Necro
I’m not big on melee classes, but I like the warrior’s ability to do bursty-combos, which is usually a caster playstyle. I don’t like rangers, as their mechanics seem either too simple (bow), or too intricate (traps/pets) for their own good, although I know a lot of that is changing. Same with engineers. However I don’t have much experience with them, and I know there is a lot to engineers that I haven’t learned about. I like to control a good mobile caster and manage direct combat.
I tell you all this because I see some parallels between our character selection and playstyle. But as I started off saying, nobody can really tell you what to pick.

Through development you talked about how easy it was to create new events in the world. How many new events have you added to the world since launch? Not many, and not what I expected from how easy you guys said such content supposedly are to create and how awesome the tools you have for creating it. If they really are, why not use them more? I would really appreciate if there popped up some new content in the zones when I’m leveling alts or revisit them. That’s what a true living story/world is imho.
I do agree that it’s awesome to see something changed in an area you regularly visit. It’s a nice surprise. However may I make you a personal suggestion if you want to find new events? There are over 1000 events in the game, and you’re sure to find something that interests you if you go somewhere that you don’t go often. I’m pretty sure that 99% of the people that complain about not having enough new content have not actually explored all the existing content yet.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Oh believe me, play WvW enough and you will grow to hate the other servers. But at the same time, there is also an unspoken camaraderie with enemy players, like when you /bow to someone in the jumping puzzle and they let you go. But then that hate comes right back when they camp you instead. WvW for me has a lot of emotional ups and downs, and I wouldn’t trade it for a blind un-based hatred like Luxon vs Kurzick , Orcs vs Humans, or Capulet vs Montague. I’d rather develop my own feelings for the enemy, instead of being told to hate these guys for no reason other than that they are different.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I like the idea that old DE content based around stories that have completed would be replaced with new DE content added through Living Story. For instance, why are we still fighting Tequatl when Zhaitan is dead? We should be fighting a Karka boss instead! Then perhaps after the next living story that takes place in Southsun Cove eliminates the Karka, that Karka boss may be replaced. Just an example of story progression through permanent DE’s. I’m not saying I want the Karka to be eliminated or anything.

Admission of guilt.Always best to know what you are dealing with when it comes to trust.
I think the main issue with trust here is that we get a dialogue going with Anet. The issues you linked were solved mainly because players communicated, and Anet listened. As it stands, regarding the RNG, players feel shafted and are not hearing anything from Anet, so they assume the shafting is intentional. If Anet responds, perhaps we can, as we did in the past, work together to pinpoint the problems. I trust them when they openly try and work with the community. For me, transparency = trust from me.
In none of the threads you linked did Anet say “there is no problem, go away”. Instead they said “we can’t find the problem, but we will keep looking. You can help us.”

So this is why my targets keep changing! It happens ALL THE TIME to me. Would love to be able to turn off right-click targeting. I almost NEED to use auto-target because of the amount of times my target randomly becomes an ally that I’ve right clicked on while moving the camera. I wouldn’t get most of my spells off if I didn’t have auto-target on. And I hate auto target!

Yeah I know it would be an issue of trust, since there is no official support for it. However I am wondering if the trading between these 2 games is even allowed. I know people used to trade GW1 gold for Runescape gold, and that was against the EULA. However these are 2 related games from the same company, and they have a direct connection, so the answer is not so clear.
Thanks for the offer, nightly. As it stands, I’m much richer in GW1. It was more of an inquiry, and if I ever do such a trade, I would most likely be trading my GW1 wealth away as well.

Unfortunately, due to a lot of biases that John Smith has mentioned in other threads, we won’t truly be able to determine if there is a flaw in the RNG, purely by sharing our experiences here. However we may be able to determine if there is a flaw in the RNG, if it is investigated by the person/people in charge of it.
Now a message to those people: yes, you have a bunch of people here who are probably just unlucky and complaining about not getting loot, but even if there is nothing wrong with the RNG, you can calm a lot of nervous players by releasing an official statement. If you do so, then we’d really have nothing to worry about, provided that we trust you, which I do. Until then, some of us are driving ourselves nuts wondering what’s going on. In our minds, the patterns of statistical anomalies seem way too regular. Please set us straight! And oh my god, what if we are right? Haha…

Sounds like a stupid reason to leave the game. The site is very quick and easy to use, and let’s you party cross-server. You must not like the game very much to leave for such a silly reason.
But yes, there are plans to add such a function to the game in the future.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Just curious, what’s Anet’s official position on ‘trading’ Guild Wars 1 items and gold to other people for Guild Wars 2 items and gold?
The games are linked by the Hall of Monuments, meaning that certain accomplishments in Guild Wars 1 do have effects in Guild Wars 2. So would I be able to, for example, trade my GW2 gold to someone (who owns both games) in return for GW1 gold so I can buy things needed to get 50/50 in my HoM, and therefore get the rewards in GW2?
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I think Zaxares has a good point. I can most definitely say that there will still be enough demand…it just might take a while to build up.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Agreed that tokens would be a better system for things like this.
However disagreed that every item ever released should be available to every player, always. Why do so many people have the need for EVERYTHING. Settle with the things you have a chance to get when you ARE playing, which is a LOT of things. Some people will never be satisfied. So what you miss a jetpack…there will be oodles of new items released constantly! You couldn’t possibly have a need for all those items!
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I wish people would stay on topic so I don’t have to read though a thread’s worth of rubbish to find out that nobody is contributing to the topic.

I’m guessing they added underwater areas to add a new element to the game, and the current underwater system is just a teaser. I play a mesmer, so underwater combat is fun, but I understand how it can limit a lot of people. I think it’s safe to say it will be a while before we see the underwater dragon. That gives Anet a LOT of time to finish creating the underwater system.

NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
The GW2 team wants this game to have a growing experience, where it is different when logging in at different times of the year. They don’t just want to have a content pool that keeps increasing, so people can just jump in and burn through all the content at once, then get bored and come back 2 years later when there is enough content to last them a week of hardcore grinding. I think they do this for 2 main reason: to stand out from the crowd, and to keep people coming back.
To be honest, for incredibly casual gamers that only play a few hours on a weekend or something similar, there is enough content in the game already to keep you going forever. So to the OP: if your time is as limited as you say, worry about the rest of the game before you worry about the things you are missing.
Plus there’s always a possibility that popular old content may be re-released in Fractal format. Also GW1 had a “wintersday in July”, so you may see that content again. Plus we know SAB will most likely return.

The only issues I have with pugging are when you join a group of friends/guild. You get stuck with ~3 people, and one is usually a jerk. And of course no reason or logic can help you here because friends will always back their friends when a stranger threatens them.
But under that circumstance, it’s not actually a “pick up group” you are joining. In real PUGS, if there is a problem member, you can just kick them. And most of the time if you have a problem with someone, so does someone else in the party.
So anyways, I found a great way to find a group for this dungeon is just to stand outside it and LFG.

I’ve gotten two exotics, ever – on two consecutive days. Monday, exotic drop, Tuesday, exotic from the forge. Then nothing. RNG is… wait for it…
Random.
Actually, RNG is not random. Computers have no way of producing a truly random number, so they need to base their random seed from something. It might be the time or date, or some other number.
I have a theory that sometimes the random seed gets stuck and you “random” the same number repeatedly. I saw this a lot when making maps in Warcraft III. However I have no proof that it is happening or can happen in GW2, it just seems like something that is happening, based on previous experience with “random” number generators in games.

So I played the market a lot in GW1, but this is nothing like I’ve seen before:
1) Limited-time items released
2) Price steadily climbs over the month when they still spawn
3) The items stop spawning, and price drops
Shouldn’t the price be going up since there are zero new skins being introduced into the market? Why is this not playing out like every limited-release item I have seen in GW1?
Is it because everyone else in the game all of a sudden has the same idea as me, and starts hoarding? If so, why would they sell now? Was the original high price artificially inflated because people predicted that it will be high? I think these trains of thought make the assumption that everyone in the game is suddenly doing the same thing in regards to these items. That was never the case in GW1. It generally went like this in GW1:
1) Limited-time items released
2) Initial value way over-estimated
3) A few people buy at high price, but price decreases for the most part
4) Limited-release ends and people try to stock up
5) Price spikes due to people stocking up
6) Price steadily increases over time
Someone please explain this to an economics newbie like myself!

Colin will there ever be a part of Fractals that allow us to play a recap of old content?
Stuff like that would be a win-win for those who want Fractals and others who long to play older stuff as well. When I said we could update or change an existing dungeon, updating fractals in the future is one of the options that’s fully possible yes. And of course since fractals lets us experience moments trapped in time….it’s entirely possible some content may make its way there as part of a living world update.
I think Fractals is going to be the PERFECT way to bring back limited-time content. The other way of course is what you guys have done with the existing dungeons: adding explorable mode. Either way, we can experience the dungeon content forever, without it feeling like it doesn’t fit into the timeline of the game world.

All I can say is that when they release more content regarding the wizard’s tower, it better be brilliant. I’ve been waiting years for access to that castle, and I know many others have as well. It’s really what I’m hoping will be the high point of Guild Wars.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
What’s this jetpack you are speaking of?

The things I find wrong:
-Slowly reaching the point where new things are only in the gem store
-Gold/gem exchange will rise up to the sky
I agree with this. It’s starting to cost a fortune in gold to get anything from the gem store. I’ve been no-lifing this game for the past month, and was barely able to afford the molten mining pick. Now I’m probably going to have to start selling off my assets to afford the other unlimited tools. I’m not one for cosmetic items, however these unlimited tools I see as more of “max gear” and my character wouldn’t be complete without them.
Gem store items are awesome…I just don’t think I’m willing to put more real world money into the game. Non-paying players like myself are starting to get excluded from a lot of real content, and that to me seems against the Guild Wars mission.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Dungeons are supposed to be group content. I’d be kitten if they made EVERYTHING in the game soloable. While it’s nice to be able to do some things alone, playing alone can get boring, and doesn’t give the great satisfaction you get from working with a team. Well, for me at least. I do suppose that a large number of gamers are antisocial hermits who are afraid of communication and teamwork. But really, it’s an MMO. That’s Massively Multiplayer. Not solo.
