A few things to remember: your stealth lasts way longer than a mesmer’s. Mesmer stealth is there just to get your attention on a clone. Mesmer’s are not mobile enough to stealth and run far away, so expect him to pop up in vision soon. Because of this, I (as a mesmer) tend to try and go behind the enemy after I stealth, so they don’t immediately see me.
Also my number one problem as a mesmer vs thief is that even if I am winning, the thief can just pop some stealths and run away. You should never lose a battle versus a PVT mesmer. However berz mesmer’s built well can burst you down right away. Always try and dodge the illusionary leap, which is the sword illusion that goes flying at you. It will immobilize you, and give room for a shatter burst. Also if you see clones running at you, they are likely trying to shatter. If you stealth, they will lose target.
Always stomp a mesmer, don’t try and burst them down as the above poster said. All you need to do is do the initial stomp, wait for them to invis, wait for the clone to pop up, then wait for the real one to pop up. The real one will usually appear second, and has the red downed symbol above it. If you wait too long, the mes and his clone will both be confusing you with each auto attack, and the downed #3 for mesmer does a lot of damage. Unless you allow time for mesmer to use his #2 a second time, he will not be able to escape your stomp. Also to note: the downed #2 for mesmer both stealths and teleports, but the teleport is random, not targeted like the theif’s.

Unless you are running a torch, your only stealth comes from your utility/elite. Blink is almost 100% necessary all the time. Feedback is too good an ability not to bring. The last slot I choose to give up condition removal for stealth (decoy), but that’s usually a personal choice. We really don’t have much wiggle room. I couldn’t even imagine running a mantra mesmer because I’d have to give up those staple abilities. I wish we had 5 utility slots at least :P

I hate the way speed works in WvW. You don’t need skill to survive, all you need is speed. I play mesmer, and I’m totally shafted. No perma swiftness unless I’m running centaur runes. No passive 25% speed increase. One good utility mobility skill, and 2 awkward weapon mobility skills. Yes, a lot of this is countered by our mediocre stealth and portals, but when it comes to straight up maneuverability, the mesmer is going to lose out every time. I’ve got to do some amazing juking, using all my stealth, distortion, and whatever else just to survive. Plain old survive, nothing else. If an ele needs to do this, he just hits one of his million superspeed skills and he’s out of my range forever. A thief can do everything a mesmer can do in combat, but twice as well. Rangers have other speed boosts and defensive spells. Warriors have lot of leaps and banner charges. Necros are the only class that suffers similar mobility problems in my eyes. And to top it all off, most of these classes have very long lasting stability. But now I’m just ranting…

Last night I’ve put in 50 buy orders for that sentinel inscription @ 8.5g a piece.
Supply is dangerously low and it’s not coming back from what I can tell – I just hope the price will go up to a point where it’s reasonable for a buyer and profitable for me.
So YOU are the one that made it go to over 9g today. I just wanted 2 more for my sent set
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I’m going to try and summarize what I think people are saying here, so you can all try and understand how it works.
- Supply decreases (via nerfs/bug fixes), yet demand remains the same, so prices increase.
- The price of any given item in this situation will rise until the amount of time to farm one unit = the amount of time to farm the gold to buy one unit
- If you can get dust faster by farming cof1, the price of dust will increase up until the point where it takes the same amount of effort to get dust, no matter what your method
- This process will be gradual, but will eventually give us the “true value” of dust
- Through future nerfs/buffs to farming dust or gold in general, the true value will change

So forum-goers are negative. Tell us something we don’t know :P
Good work though.

I’ve done the instigators about a dozen times and only seen greens at best. You’re only looting one mob, so the MF bonus isn’t that helpful. You get 2 guaranteed rares + the big chest from killing the karka queen, so I think the event itself is more profitable. However I don’t know how often the criteria for having her spawn will be met once the southsun living story is finished.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
These threads make me so glad I’m intelligent. Sorry to hear about your dilemma.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
While you are waiting to farm the Riot Instigator events in Southsun, there is a chest you can grab once a day, sitting on the shipwreck that houses the “shipwreck sample” you may have gathered last month. Also Pearl Islet has a simple jumping puzzle, for that same crowd of people.

Only thing I can think of is that bots are programmed to buy them because logic dictates that they are the cheapest high level weapons you can buy. So possibly lots of bots are buying them up, and since there is not much supply, we are starting to see the really high-priced sell orders. If one genuinely wanted a high-level white item, there are lots of vendors that sell them for around 5s I believe.
Also is may be a bot system’s way of working around limits to gold transfers. Perhaps they are coded to buy items from each other (based on price and time of listing) in order to transfer gold without being tracked as easily, or limited by mail restrictions.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I can’t imagine that many people are buying these skins. If these skins were just part of the normally available skins, for normal skin prices, I still wouldn’t consider buying it just because its so different looking than the style of my character. I’m guessing that I’m not the only person who feels that way.
So my guess is that they move off the TP very slowly, and as they do people who are wondering when to sell will slowly list and things will stay stagnant for a long, long time. Probably until people are willing to part with the skin for whatever they can get for it and start driving down prices.
You would be amazed at how many people like certain items literally only “because they are shiney”. I have a friend who always goes on about how Super GS is one of the best GS skins in the game because it is so shiney. A big reason for this is because a lot of people run on lower graphics settings and/or far zoom where you cannot see the detail and colours that go into a lot of nice skins. If you play like that, you can really only tell the difference on a lot of skins if they are shiney. That’s where the demand comes from.

Wait, how could it be easy to be instantly buy at a low price and instantly sell at a high price, at the same time? Is that not contradictory? Who would ever buy instantly at 4s when they could instantly buy at 2s40c?
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I got an exotic guild backpack from a guild mission last weekend. I got excited because I received an exotic drop, but then realized that the stats were not useful, I could not sell it on the tp, could not salvage it, and could not even vendor it. I’ve got no idea why they give us items that are completely useless. It doesn’t even have a nice skin…

Until we actually get a “minipet slot”, you’re going to have to use an invisible bag or equivalent.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
The time limit is there to give you a feeling of constant gear progression (always working towards a new goal). They originally added Ascended items because people felt they were able to reach the gear cap (exotic) too quickly. So now you always have something to work towards. The game is still balanced around exotic gear (mobs didn’t get stronger when ascended was added), so this isn’t limiting your ability to do well in the game. It just gives you the feeling of always being able to do better. Don’t worry about getting all ascended gear as soon as possible, that’s not the point of it. It’s just there for people that want an extra challenge.

I think it’s a WvW/PvP thing. Some servers are dedicated WvW/PvP servers (like Kaineng), and you’ll notice it says on guild and party list that someone might be on Kaineng [D] while in WvW/PvP, even though Kaineng is not one of your current WvW matchups.
Edit: Atm in my multi-world guild, I see Anvil Rock, Henge of Denravi, Kaineng, Yak’s Bend, Borlis Pass, and Sorrows Furnace with the [D] beside them. So I’m guessing each one hosts a different WvW matchup.

Slightly different RNG function but has anyone tried using those Orr boxes or the crafting laurel bags since the bug was fixed? I’m curious to see the results on those since the salvaging thing was fixed.
I know I opened 49 Orr boxes during the bug and got only junk + karma, if that means anything. I don’t think the bug was limited to ectos, so it’s likely RNG in general may have changed.

I honestly think people are expecting too much of it. When I heard the Molten Mining Pick had a unique animation, I was expecting a few sparks, maybe a slight glow. Instead I see fountains of lava, a huge, bright, over-the-top effect. IMO they went way overboard with the mining animation, and the sickle animation is more along the line of what I’d expect to see. If the sickle had come out first, nobody would have complained. But now the mining pick has set the bar for animation too high, and people are disappointed.

I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for in WvW. Do you want to go where it’s easy, or where you can make a real change? Northern Shiverpeaks is the kind of server that has lost a lot of guilds and has very little coverage, so we’d love a new transfer. But it’s not going to be easy playing with us. We have a good community, but we’re always the underdog.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
I’ve got 4 greens so far.
A bit off-topic: I’m rank 161 on my necro yet I don’t plan to play on it anymore, maybe just a few ranks, since I leveld a new char for WvW. Am I really forced to play another 160 ranks on my necro just to get my ‘missed’ chests ??
Or did Anet actually think of this and made it so no matter what character I play I still get 2 chests for 160+ ranks.
Hopefully it’s the latter, I can’t comprehend the stupidity if they didn’t make the rank backlog acc bound.Anyone know how this works ?
Let me spin it in a different light for you. If a new player gains 160 ranks, they will get 160 chests. If you now gain 160 ranks, you will get 320 chests. You have an opportunity to get 160 chests that someone without those pre-existing ranks will never have.
I have just recently gotten more involved in WvW, so I’m only rank 19. My future efforts in WvW will be on a similar level to your future efforts in WvW, however you will be benefiting twice as much since you got into it well before I did.
By the way, I’m trying to make you feel better, not trying to argue with you.

Let me ask you this: What would a generalist (celestial) do better than a specialist? In what situation would I want someone who uses celestial over someone who specializes in said task?
Why would I take a celestial player over a zerker player when I need dps?
Why would I take a celestial player over a carrion/rabid playerwhen I need a condition damage player?
Why would I take a celestial bunker over a soldier/cleric/knight bunker when I need a bunker? In a world of specialists, generalists are useless as there is nothing they can do that a specialist cannot do better.
- 5 celestial players combined will do better, number wise, than 5 specialized players.
- If you only need zerkers, like for cof, only take them. Nobody is saying celestial does anything better than someone designed specifically for that role. But if you need multiple people to do multiple things, or if you are playing in PvE or WvW where there is less group structure, celestial wins (given that you can make use of the stats).

I think it was done because people were complaining about the limited release thing, so this gave them an extra chance to purchase the minis, and the sale part was an apology for being so sneaky in adding minis that many casual players didn’t even notice.
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
Just about any chest in the game can drop a precursor, albeit with a very low percentage. All this update is doing is adding a new way to get chests. The amount of people that spend all their time in WvW (you may call them non-chest-farmers) is not high enough to be adding a significant amount of chest loot to the market.
Very very very few players gain 5 ranks a day. Most don’t even gain 5 ranks a week. Now compare this to the 10+ meta event chests that lots of players get every day. IMO adding the API will add more chest loot to the market than adding WvW chests. Suddenly we have people farming 5 extra bosses every day.
And nobody will be “opening up 50 chests at once”. There will be a slow trickle of double-chests per rank until people have received their backlogged chests. Backlogged chests are NOT being given to players at once. They will receive one every time they gain a WvW rank.

I do agree that I would love to be able to discover this content, and any content for that matter, on my own (I don’t mean solo, but I mean without an external aid).
I also agree that it is near-impossible without a guide. Even if you fail a dozen or so attempts at first, the only way you will be able to do future missions is if you create your own guide. Dulfy helps with this because not everyone has the time/resources/player network to be able to do this without great frustration, or even giving up.
Regardless of the difficulty of a new challenge, there will always be people that want instant gratification and do not want to experience the content themselves. So they will turn to guides, no matter how simple. A perfect example is initiating living story: you are given mail, world event text, heralds, and news announcements to make it possible to find it on your own, however some people will always stand in town asking for the answer, or look online before ever even trying. Unfortunately for us, it seems that ANet believes it is a good idea to try and force a challenge on those who are not willing to take the challenge. What I mean by this is that it seems they are putting so much detail/difficulty into guild missions that the regular ‘instant-gratification players’ can’t be bothered to give it their time. I like this because I don’t like to bother with those types of players, however it ends up turning me into one of them for the purpose of these missions, which ruins the experience for myself. IMO it would be better to make moderately difficult content that people could experience if they want, rather than making incredibly difficult content that ultimately requires the use of a guide. It seems that the increased difficulty is only there to overwhelm the ‘instant-gratification players’ that are already overwhelmed by any kind of challenge. And of course the end result is that you scare people away from your content in general, because anyone wanting to have a natural feeling game experience will be frustrated beyond belief.
I was looking forward to guild missions, however I do not enjoy them because I always have to open a guide and it makes me feel like I’m just working off a checklist rather than actively experiencing content.
Guild Rush is the only one I think is designed with appropriate difficulty. You get ample time to find the location, and then you don’t need a guide to complete the mission itself. Yet the mission does require timing, skill, and coordination. It doesn’t feel trivial nor overwhelming.
Some challenges and puzzles are also decent, however I haven’t done enough of them to make a good conclusion. Definitely though the bounties and treks, as well as some of the puzzles and challenges are overly difficult (here’s looking at you Langmar Estate).

I run a feedback build on my mesmer. This means I have built vitality/healing via traits. I run soldier’s gear for this because stacking health is more effective when you add in some toughness as well. Mesmer’s best weapon is the GS, which is primarily power based. No matter what weapon you are using, you will have your shatters, which are a required part of combat if you expect to do well with a mesmer. Shatters are great at inflicting confusion, and putting trait points into reducing shatter recharge gives you condition damage as well as one of the best traits for fighting players: Illusory Persona. Also 5 points in the mesmer crit trait line will allow you to gain vigor whenever you crit, which is priceless. I’ve played around a lot with this build. It’s capable of holding its own 1v1 as well as providing excellent support in WvW.
This build uses everything, so Celesital gear is perfect for it. All-stat gear is far from useless. Mesmer builds/traits build well off each other. I can’t speak for other professions, and until you can, you should not generalize about an item’s usefulness.

Yeah I agree the point system ruins it. GoM gets their points because they are bigger. DR and NSP can’t get GoM’s points because GoM is bigger, so they go at each other’s throats. I’ve gotta say though for the past couple weeks, half of NSP’s side on EB has been blue, while the other half is green. I was SO shocked when I logged on and we were hitting DR’s keep! As long as this matchup has lasted, I have never seen us take any enemy tower other than Durios, let alone attack a keep. I’d love to see DR and NSP team up against GoM. 2 little guys against the machine, it would be fun. But as long as the system is like this, any strategic commander that doesn’t care about fairness is going to force a doubleteam.
I just wish NSP was in a position to be able to dictate the strategy. At the moment, we just bunker down in our keep and hope that some rogue groups on the enemy sides start attacking each other, which opens up some room for us to take our side back. 95% of the time, NSP is playing defense, with occasional groups taking umber/rogue’s. We are rarely in a position to be offensive and try and secure some enemy points. And when that does happen, it’s because the enemies are dominating our BL.
By the way, I apologize for offending anyone with my post, or anything I said in WvW chat that night. I came home drunk :P

So I just got out of EB on NSP side. GoM has 4 trebs on a hill guarded by a zerg, as they siege our keep. DR is starving our supply, and camping our spawn. Why on Earth is there an alliance like this against the weakest server of the 3? Why do you have to team up against us? We don’t have the numbers, we don’t have the coverage. Everyone is leaving our server because of this. Why are you still doubleteaming us? Why can’t DR and GoM play the game properly and do WvWvW, not 2WvW? Honestly, someone enlighten me! I’ve been skeptical about there being an alliance up until this point. I see everyone thinking they are getting doubleteamed. But honestly this takes the cake. You guys are obviously working together against NSP week after week. What gives?

This. The mobs are not there for you to farm. They are there to stop you from completing the event. The event has it’s own rewards. If you want to farm mobs, farm the mobs that naturally spawn, not the ones that are part of events. Event mobs should never drop loot, IMO.
So certain monsters shouldn’t drop loot? Ah that doesn’t make much sense to me, what would be the point in doing the event then since there is not any good rewards besides from the world bosses? Which is why people usually don’t do majority of events anyways….
Well yeah, the point is that the rewards should be worthy of the effort you put into completing the event. At the moment, that isn’t always true. Just think about the motivation behind events. Say you are given the task of protecting a village from ogres. You aren’t there to hunt ogres for loot, you are there to defend the village. In turn, you should get a viable reward. Maybe a villager gives you something, or you claim the ogre king’s prized possession. But waiting for more ogres to come and looting every corpse doesn’t seem in line with the point of the event. The current system needs a little reworking so all events are viable, and that’s what they are trying to do over time.
If mob can kill me it should give me chance to get loot, otherwise i don’t want to fight it.
^THIS HAHAHAHAHA
the perfect reason and answers to all questions
As I said, you are tasked with fighting the mobs because they stand between you and a goal. If your goal is killing mobs, sure, you should be rewarded for that. If your goal is collecting shells while angry fish try and attack you, you should be rewarded by collecting the shells as fast as possible and surviving the fish; not by killing the fish, since that’s not the goal. Sometimes you have to fight mobs because they corner you, or there is a timer that you need to hold out for. Running away in this case would make you lose the event.

3 lv 80 mesmers all in exotic gear killed it with Phantasmal Wardens and sword auto-attacks. Maybe some dummies are harder to kill? I don’t know. It was one of the one’s in LA though, that’s for sure.
I too doubt it and say prove it with a video.
Wow I didn’t know it was even such a big deal. I don’t make videos, but I’ll sure invite you to come watch or even help us do it. Perhaps it has something to do with the frequency of the damage that the Wardens put out, versus the Duelists that these guys were using.
