Point of adds with no loot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

Most mobs in meta events (especially) are there to put pressure on you, not to give loot. The loot is that big nice chest that you get after the event ends.

This. The mobs are not there for you to farm. They are there to stop you from completing the event. The event has it’s own rewards. If you want to farm mobs, farm the mobs that naturally spawn, not the ones that are part of events. Event mobs should never drop loot, IMO.

“Point of adds with no loot?”

There is no point, to kill a monster and to not get a reward. Man putting that aspect into a video game is like a huge slap to your face. Generations of games that is common knowledge that if you kill something, you will receive some type of loot.

I have no idea what the staff of Arena Net is thinking.

Oh man, how dare they try and redefine the MMORPG genre!? Have you not been listening? That’s been their goal from day 1. If you don’t want a new experience, play a different game. Guild Wars 2 is the MMORPG for players that are tired of the old MMORPG style. However, if you like the old style, I hear World of Warcraft is still releasing expansions.

Reality for casuals

“I reject your reality and substitute my own.”

Agreed. An out of place rant by an emotional person that does not understand the game, nor the meaning of the phrase “I could care less”.

Yes, you will never get a legendary.

Yes, gear is an issue in WvW. If you have the PvP skill to make up for it, you may survive in small fights, but not against zergs/siege.

No, 80s is not standard for a new lv 80. My friend just reached lv 80 with 10g. He is a casual.

No, guilds are not useless for finding groups. Find a better guild. I’d suggest joining mine, but I don’t like you.

No, you do not need to know how to speed farm to run any dungeon. That is unless you are trying to speed farm a specific dungeon. Then, duh. I ran all the dungeons with no knowledge of how to run them, and with pug groups before I even hit level 80.

No, PvP is in no way related to cowardice, bravery, manliness, member size, or anything of that sort. It is strategy based. If you want to 1v1 someone to the death to prove your 1v1 skill, join Fight Club. When you are doing a 5v5 match with capture points as the focus, do not judge anyone’s skill or personal qualities based on their ability to 1v1 you.

No, one could not care less. That’s the point. If one could care less, that implies that one actually does care, which one doesn’t.

In the future, if you have problems, ask the community. We are active and helpful. Don’t rant, make assumptions/generalizations, or insult ANet, and above all, do not let a game make you sad.

Hot-fixes not documented, why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

There was a recent coincidence where a server maintenance patch was released around the same time a hot-fix was made to the game. Hot-fixes are changes made to the game that do not require patching the game client. This brought up speculation that changes are being released with patches, but not documented. While it was determined the change was not part of the patch, it was still not documented, which is just as bad.

My question is: you document and make announcements for new patches, but why do you not document hot-fixes? They are still changes made to the game. The player base would like to know when something is changed in the game. In fact, telling us there was a hot-fix is more useful to us than telling us there was routine maintenance. Maintenance does not affect us, but content changes do.

Mesmer Shatter Traits

in Suggestions

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

Hi there,

I recently contacted support with this issue, and was told that the best way to attract developer attention would be to create a thread in the suggestion forum. In my eyes, this is clearly a bug. I have not offered any suggestions, as I trust the developers to make the right decisions here.

However since I was told it would be a good idea, I am starting a thread here as well. So let me offer a few suggestions to solve this problem:

  1. Before adding things to the game, make sure that the language used is consistent with language previously used in the game. Things should be referred to using the same terms with the same meanings, so as not to obscure communication to the players.
  2. With this specific issue, I suggest that each trait that triggers on-shatter be reworded and reworked to trigger “when a shatter is performed” OR “when a shatter skill is successfully activated”, and have that stated clearly in the tooltip. What’s the difference, you say? This change would mainly be to make all shatter-related traits function consistently with regards to the Illusory Persona trait. Note that a “successful shatter skill activation” requires at least one illusion out, and/or Illusory Persona active. Consider the following scenarios, and how they should work:
  • I shatter with zero illusions and no Illusory Persona. Nothing happens, and my shatter skill goes on the 3 second “failed cast” cool down.
  • I shatter with 1-3 illusions and no Illusory Persona. Every illusion creates the desired effect at the location of its shatter, when it shatters. For traits that involve self/ally buffing, perhaps all trait effects should be applied as soon as the shatter is used. The main concern here is how to deal with illusions that do not properly shatter (illusion destroyed before it reaches its target, or the target becomes invalid). Either way it should be clearly outlined in the tooltip how the trait will trigger.
  • I shatter with 0-3 illusions and Illusory Persona active. The main choice here is whether or not the player counts as “an illusion” or “the location of a shatter”. Draw this distinction, and there should not be much difference between a player creating a shatter, and an illusion immediately shattering upon use of a shatter skill (like with Distortion, which instantly shatters all illusions). Additionally, all traits that trigger “on shatter” should trigger when Illusory Persona is active.

Let’s take a look at the 5 traits I mentioned, and how they would now function with Illusory Persona active:

Restorative Illusions:
“Heal a small amount when you shatter illusions.”

0 illusions: The player is healed by the base amount + an extra amount for having one shatter. This is how it currently works.
1+ illusions: They player is healed by the base amount + an extra amount for each shatter, including the player’s shatter. This is how it currently works. At the moment, the player heals the full amount immediately. This makes sense functionally as the heal is small and would be much less powerful if you had to wait for your illusions to successfully shatter. If you changed it so that each illusion had to successfully shatter to create a heal, the heal must be increased in turn. Either way, clearly outline it with language such as “when a shatter is performed” or “when you successfully activate a shatter skill”.

  • Vigorous Revelation: same as above, replace heal with vigor.
  • Shattered Strength: same as above, replace heal with might.
  • Shattered Conditions: same as above, replace heal with remove condition. May be limited to one condition removed for balance.
  • Confusing Cry: same as above, replace heal with retaliation.

As you can see, all the traits now function under the same guidelines, but may individually be changed to trigger on successful shatter skill activation, or when an illusion/player shatters (your choice).

Shatter-related trait inconsistencies

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

This post will detail several Mesmer traits that behave inconsistently.

Illusory Persona (XI): 30 points in illusion
“Shattering illusions creates the shatter effect on you as well.”

Illusions are not required to be shattered to create the effect on you. The effect is created on you upon use of a shatter skill. This triggers some “on-shatter” traits, but not all.

Vigorous Revelation (III): 10 points in inspiration
“Shattering Illusions grants vigor to nearby allies.”

An illusion does not need to be shattered to trigger this trait if you are using Illusory Persona. This leads to the conclusion that Illusory Persona makes the player count “as an illusion” as well.

Restorative Illusions (XII): 30 points in inspiration
“Heal a small amount when you shatter illusions.”

Functions in-line with Vigorous Revelation: an illusion does not need to be shattered to trigger this trait if you are using Illusory Persona. In addition Illusory Persona also adds to the amount healed.

Shattered Strength: 25 points in illusions
“Shattering Illusions grants you one stack of might per illusion (10 seconds).”

Works contrary to Vigorous Revelation and Restorative Illusions, as it does not grant a stack of might upon use of a shatter with zero illusions out, but with Illusory Persona active. Also Illusory Persona does not give you an extra stack of might when other illusions ARE shattered.

Shattered Conditions (XI): 30 points in inspiration
“Using a shatter skill removes a condition.”

The condition is only removed if an illusion is shattered, contrary to the description saying “using a shatter skill”. In addition, having Illusory Persona active does not trigger Shattered Conditions. In both cases, having zero illusions out will cause Shattered Conditions to have no effect.

Confusing Cry (II): 10 points in illusions
“Cry of Frustration grants retaliation.”

As with Shattered Conditions, this trait only triggers if you have an illusion out when a shatter skill is activated. Does not trigger with zero illusions, even when Illusory Persona is active.

Conclusions:
First, there needs to be a clarification made on whether the player is counted “as an illusion” for the purposes of Illusory Persona, or if it is purely for the sake of creating an extra shatter effect.

Second, there needs to be a distinction made between “using a shatter skill” and “shattering illusions”. I feel that these two terms, while meaning very different things, are being used interchangeably.

Third, there needs to be a rewording for traits liking Confusing Cry to detail the exact circumstances under which the trait will trigger (refer to my second conclusion).

A proper way to invest?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

Someone please teach me how to invest. I am terrible.

I foresaw Rosemary going up in price, so I bought a stack at 1s each. Over the next week, the price began to plummet, so I bailed and sold them at 80c each. Now they are ~4s each, a few weeks later.

I invested in Super Skins when they were rapidly increasing in price. Bought a Super Shield at 28g. It then did nothing but drop, and now it’s worth 11g.

Another 2 items which I will not mention have dropped by about 20% in the week or 2 since I invested in them. I’m hoping that this is going to be similar to what happened with Rosemary, and I will see a 300% increase, but I can’t be sure.

I opted not to invest in Sentintel’s Intricate Gossamer Insignias when they were 1.5g, and here they are over 6g now.

I am consistently making the wrong decisions. How do you guys do it? I’m just losing money. I made money flipping items in GW1, but not in GW2.

New matchup system (official info)

in WvW

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

The only thing that worries me, is that matchups like these won’t be competitive:

I think the point of this new system is that the old ratings are not an accurate measure of a server’s skill. You are constantly facing the same servers over and over and it takes 4+ “match-up resets” of constantly winning/losing to even have a shot at a different opponent. There could be a really bad server in tier 2, but it just hasn’t had the chance to drop down in ranking fast enough because it takes so long to do so. And by the time a server has found it’s proper place in the rankings, all the servers have completely changed (new players/guilds, players/guilds leaving, strategy/commanders changing).

But for me the main benefit of this new system is not to “find your place in the ranking”, but rather to experience new opponents and develop new strategies to adapt. I’m sure playing against BG is a lot different than playing against GoM, and now we are going to see a trend towards experiencing those differences. WvW gets boring when 2 worlds can choose to gang up on another world and constantly make them lose, or when a world has their weaknesses exploited constantly. If we face new worlds, they won’t know our weaknesses/strengths, and they won’t have the framework in place for beating us. More is left unknown, and more is possible. It’s exciting!

I think this is a great idea, but it’s too little too late. Most of the decent WvW guilds have jumped ship from low tier servers already. Low coverage = low coverage no matter who you are playing against. Sure it will make for a better primetime, but overnight, the higher WvW population server is still going to be the one that wins.

100% Scaling down?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

But what if players were actually challenged in the open world. Would they find the fights as boring?

If this happened, they would have to get the same rewards in low level zones as in level 80 zones. Otherwise they wouldn’t want to put out the same amount of effort. So are we going to start making t6 mats drop all over the world? If we do, then endgame becomes pointless.

If = rewards (and challenge) would render the endgame pointless, by implication it is worse than the preceding content in other ways, yes?

Not worse, but less accessible. People would not want to go through the effort of getting to endgame if there was no reward benefit from it.

How much content has been removed from GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

As my response to this,

Please give some sort of ‘flashback’ option to those of us who missed out on these events. I can’t get into a game that plays keep-away with its plot development and added content. I’d much rather return to a game that introduces new stories, lore, and adventures and then KEEPS them in the game.

I would like to point out that Colin said this:

As we’ve said before, the releases this month include content that will remain permanently in the game (not all will, but some), as will other Living World releases in the future. Some events and content from the past will also re-appear in the future, some will return for relevant holidays/festivities, and other for special events or even permanently added to new locations.

As an aside, I would like to point out that GW2 is designed and marketed to more serious gamers, as opposed to casual gamers. They want to keep the client base that will dedicate themselves to GW2 and keep buying gems. They don’t care so much about the casual gamer that goes between different games on a whim. Most likely those gamers have not even experienced all GW2 has to offer, before complaining that they don’t have access to enough content. Also they don’t buy as many gems.

Community on the forums vrs Community in Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

You have to remember that most people that use forums have been active forum-goers for a long time, and have been on forums like reddit, 4chan, etc. And in those places you get ripped apart if you make the slightest grammatical error, or out of place suggestion. So people on forums are often edgy by nature. A lot of people go on those forums because they feel better by insulting others.

The actual community of people here that only use forums for GW (like myself) is very small. Most people just see this as another place to flex their ego.

Now on the contrary, people that don’t go on forums tend to get their fill of social interaction by directly dealing with people. And in direct interaction, you can’t be a mean person and just hide behind your screen, laughing. These are the kinds of people that will actively engage you in game and help you out. They are there because they enjoy making others feel good, while “forum trolls” enjoy making others feel bad.

Why undercut by so much...?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Curo.2483

I get annoyed by the following kinds of people:

But if you don’t mind people undercutting you, why do you worry about it?

Because he is curious and maybe wants to help less knowledgeable players learn how to make more money.

Also, it is not a rule of thumb as anyone is entitled to use the TP as they see fit.

That’s why it’s called a “rule of thumb” and not a “rule” or “law”. Also knows as a “pro tip”. Rules of thumb are handy things that everyone benefits from. If you want to shoot yourself in the head, you are more than welcome to. It would probably rid the world of your ignorance. However, as a rule of thumb, shooting yourself in the head is bad.

If I need to get rid of stuff and don’t mind the loss I will undercut like a boss.

If you need to get rid of stuff and don’t care about making max profit, you would merch the items. Why would you go through the effort of using the trading post, if you are not using it to make the profit you could? Bosses don’t make stupid decisions like putting out extra effort for less reward.

You can’t just “want to take a loss”. Nobody wants to take a loss without a reason. I’m driven completely insane by people that say things along the lines of “if I want to do something that is detrimental to myself, let me do it”. WHY??? You have a reason, you have to. People don’t hurt themselves for no reason. Even if you get pleasure out of making your life hard, you have a reason…the pleasure. So don’t go telling me you “just want to do it”. I hear people bragging about how much money they are making by actually asking for payment or tips. Come on guys, who is actually paying these jerks? I’d never refuse someone a portal because they couldn’t pay. Nor would I pressure someone into paying. Now would I even solicit payment! And here we have the people that are taking advantage of those who can’t jump, and you are actually paying them? Now their bad manners are going to get them financially ahead in the game. And yes, every single person I have ever encountered who charged for a portal has had bad manners.

Please: don’t feed the animals.

What are your top details\problems in GW2

1. The fact that there is a main city rather than having all the features available in every city.

And what features would that be? Aside from certain plot points relating to LA as a location (ex. you had to be there for Halloween), I can’t think of anything that it has over any of the other cities. Mystic Forge? Those are all over WvW, so definitely not unique to LA. Every city has crafting stations, banks, trading posts…what else are we missing? LA is just a hub. Like literally, that’s what it’s used for: traveling to and from other cities, WvW, PvP, some zones/dungeons. Making every city into a hub would be silly :P

One of the little things that bugs me that people don’t talk about is the fact that there is no activation bar for enemy skills. In GW1, every ability that took longer than 1 sec to cast had an activation bar so you could see the progress, and interrupt it appropriately.

Buuuut there’s way bigger issues like moving the camera making you change targets mid-combat that concern me wayyyy more!

WP problem

Yeah I found this as well. It happens when there are a LOT of people and the server isn’t communicating with you properly. You are still moving properly on the server side, but you can’t see it yourself. It’s like the opposite of rubber-banding.

This happened to me in Wayfarer Foothills once when I went for Maw. My friend had to guide me through the event, telling me where to go and when to swing my sword. He could see me moving on his screen, but to me I was just standing at Krennak’s Homestead WP.

I also notice it in LA sometimes (but not as severe), but haven’t encountered this issue anywhere in the past few weeks.

Not happy about Springtime Minis

Really though there are going to be SOOO many limited run items over the years. The whole “I need to have this because I will never get a chance again” mentality is what they are preying on. You don’t actually need it all. You don’t need any of it. And you are wasting your money. When everything is made limited release to make it seem special, nothing is really special anymore. It was ok when 2-3 times a year a special item would come out and you absolutely HAD to have it. But now almost every item is like that.
SAB skins: had to have.
Sentinel’s insigs: had to have.
Jetpack: had to have.
Spring minis: had to have.
Molten Pick: had to have.
You get my drift? And to make matters even worse, they are adding RNG to the mess, so you likely will pay for something and not get it anyways. You are all just wasting your money! Smarten the kitten up!

Top Commanders?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Curo.2483

To be honest, most people with commander tags in WvW have them because they want to command. You don’t get PvE only players going into WvW and leading armies to their death, since PvE players stick to PvE. Also a lot of WvW players that do have commander tags buy them specifically because they love WvW and want to help out there, but because they care so much about it, they don’t tag up in fear that they will screw things up. So really, you don’t see many inexperienced commanders in WvW.

However I do agree that there should be WvW requirements for becoming a commander in WvW. It just seems right.

Unfortunately, real-world selling tactics don’t work here. Players do not have to (nor can they really) “shop around”. The absolute lowest price in the WORLD is immediately given to them, and all specific products are equal. They have no reason to not buy the cheapest item. It’s not harder for them to find, it’s not lower quality, it doesn’t have any extra fees or waiting time. This market is instant and perfect, and undercutting by 1c will always be the best option, unless you think you can set a price low enough that nobody will want to undercut you. The only thing we have control over is the fact that we are all equal in this system, and can all undercut each other. So we have to.

I am neutral on undercutting in terms of economies and value. However I am against it for one thing that makes us unequal: there is no cost to post a buy order, so the person that is able to be at the computer the most is able to “overcut” the most. For example: I can log on once a day and post the highest buy price, but if someone else is constantly monitoring that item and is able to “overcut” me every 5 minutes, I have very little chance of ever having my buy order fulfilled. This favours people that are able to constantly be online, whereas sell listings favours nobody, since they have a listing fee (you could infinitely undercut but you would lose all your money).

My advice to anyone thinking about investing money in anything: do some research first. It wouldn’t have taken you long on these forums to find out that these crates, and just about any RNG items they sell, are a scam.

GW1 monsters vs GW2 monsters

The enemies are different/weaker to allow solo play. Got to say though that it’s too easy to just avoid everything in GW2. Also I don’t think they wanted to go into the detail of giving mobs specific builds and such. Kind of sucks.
