I think things like this are done to give the boss a unique feel and not the “oh you just copy-pasted regular animations, increased the stats, and called it a boss” feel. I’d expect special animations for special characters to be limited to those characters.

For the most part, this was the least combat I’ve seen in OS. Since we know most people that were there today are PvE’ers, everyone seemed to leave each other alone. But if anyone got out of hand, we wiped them of course.

Probably the only explanation for us not noticing the construction of a giant base was to put it in the Tengu area where we cannot see what is happening.

I used a level 80 Warrior, punched everything in the face, killed them all in three auto attacks, and didn’t even get a chance to see any of their skills. Yes, just the type of bad guys I was hoping for.

If enemies were balanced around zerker warrior DPS, it would be hell for the rest of us. You are never going to want to play a mesmer. It takes about 10x as many hits from a mes, and I’m not even exaggerating.

Honestly, it makes no sense to me to release a new stat-set and not have it permanently accessible. That’s giving an actual playstyle game/combat advantage over players that were here for the release. Also I don’t think Sentinel’s was released for PvP, was it? I’m really hoping that all limited-release stats do come back for good, even though I’ve already bought my full set of Sentinel’s gear.

I don’t mind the gold sink. However, I GREATLY mind the fact that I have to go to an NPC to retrait, and cannot save my templates as I could in GW1.

There is a problem, but this thread is focused on the wrong thing. We should not complain about the cost, but rather the accessibility.

As a mesmer, I think torment is going to be great for us. We have the lowest mobility, so enemies are often able to escape as easily. Torment will make that a bit harder for them now. However thieves have insane mobility and can already stick to you like glue. I don’t understand why they need torment. If you don’t move, a thief will kill you in about 2 seconds. For mesmers, unless we are running a specifically traited shatter zerker build, we aren’t going to kill you that fast, so hurting you when you run is not as devastating vs us as it is vs thieves.

I thought the same for a couple days, but it turns out it was just a streak of bad luck for me. I’m back to getting 3 ectos per salvage

I agree. I love the story just as much as the content itself. Some people like to have everything laid out for them, then complain that the content is not complex enough. I found this quite hypocritical. It’s like reading all the spoilers before watching a movie, then complaining that the movie didn’t surprise you or catch your attention. And how does this affect us people that actually want to enjoy the secrets and plot twists? Well, ANet seems to be catering to those people that want everything right in front of them, for fear of losing player base. I understand that being obscure will alienate a lot of your playerbase – those who like instant gratification and cannot appreciate the term “plot development”. However you are in turn alienating the group of people who respect your work and want to experience or feel every little bit of it. I shouldn’t have to unsubscribe from the GW2 fb page, not read update notes, stay off the forums, not read new achievements, and turn off map chat just to experience what I think should be a great feeling of discovering something amazing you have created for me.

That being said, I can’t friggen wait for Sky Pirates! I kind of wish I wasn’t told exactly what is where and who I will be fighting, and what I will have to do. That first moment that I saw an Aetherblade pop out during the effigy-lighting instance should have been an amazing shock, and experience full of wonder and fear. However due to achievement spoilers, people data mining, and common conversation in LA, I was completely expecting it. I’m one of those people that loves to experience the amazing stories that people write, so please stop spoiling it, and let me immerse myself in your creativity!

I’m normally one to tell people to look harder when they don’t know what to do, but I will agree this time that it was unclear. I closed the game after leaving the Dead End instance, and only realized I wasn’t finished after reading GW2’s posts on facebook. Once I knew there was more to be done, it was kind of common sense for me to go back to Kiel since the other LA story instances were accessed through her, but it was not a give-away. Also she told me that we were done for the day, but then she also told me the location of 2 other reps, so I went looking for them and of course they were not there.

OP: I think you are smart enough to know the answer, you just wanted a point of contention because you like conflict.

And in case you really are confused: the game world is one thing, a story is another. NPC’s, players, and enemies revive and respawn because if they didn’t, the game would end pretty fast for most players. Resurrection is a necessary mechanic for this genre of game. A story however is something taken out of the game world and given it’s own world of existence. The Guild Wars story has been going on through multiple games (in the form of missions, personal story, living story, etc) and books, and lives inside that. The game itself is set in the same world, but is not part of the actual story.

What you are asking is akin to “you killed my queen last game, so how can my queen be back for this game of chess?” Well, it’s a game, just that. Whereas Dumbledore cannot come back to life, because in his story, he died. Life is not a game…well, that’s a different issue entirely

Hmm not sure if there is a legitimate solution at the moment, but I know right now if someone is holding a box and drops it via weapon swap, another player can pick it up. So that might be a quick fix for you until we find an actual solution. So far you only need to use it once outside the instance.

The ideal balance point we’d like to have is with the scaling and more exciting encounters we have now, so it’s actually fun and at least remotely challenging to play there, but also rewarding as well. The reward systems we want to roll out to support those areas are part of a larger reward revamp and aren’t done yet, but are on their way and tie more strongly into the comprehensive system we’re trying to develop, thus the swap.

Just a note: when you make encounters more difficult to attract more players, remember that it causes lag. Lag makes it harder for people to engage in active combat. Ideally, the hardest content in the game would require everyone to be active in combat, rather than ‘afk 1-spamming’. To achieve this goal without making the encounter itself unplayable, you may have to end up spreading the content out so that not everyone is mashed into one little room, or limit the number of players at these events. At the moment, I enjoy the way the Orr events work, but I know that if people are zerging them and I get targeted by a monster, there is no way for me to survive, due to lag.

NO!

They told you they were aware of an issue and would work on a fix. This is a fix. You now need less achievements, which is the same thing as making Dragon Ball count, except it actually helps out people like me who have not done dragon ball for one reason or another.

They have not affected me. I play video games for fun, not virtual profit.

I ran through Straits of Devastation last night with a group of about 8 people, trying to figure out how to start the Eye of Zhaitan event. It was actually quite fun, and I went places I’ve never really been before. We got to do some events that nobody does, kill some epic bosses, use some really cool environmental weapons, and explore confusing catacombs. It made me realize how FUN this zone actual can be when you are not alone and getting roflstomped by risen at every turn. There is so much to do, so many places to go, so many events. The only problem is that the events that contest waypoints respawn about every 10 minutes. I got tired of killing the same Risen Acolyte Leader just so people could wp to my group.

The problem is too many people guide their gaming experience based on rewards. If it takes too long to do, or doesn’t drop a chest, they won’t do it. Never mind the fun…who plays games for fun anyways? It’s all about VIRTUAL PROFIT!

Orbs bring further imbalanced to matchups that are already not balanced. Playing on NSP and having about 15% of the WvW population of DH who we are playing against, I would not want to give even more of an advantage to the side that is going to win 100% of the time anyways.

Now in balanced tiers, where all 3 servers are equal, orbs would be a nice twist. But until the WvW tiers balance out, orbs are too volatile to bring back.

There are LOTS of ways to get tonics. There are some NPC vendors in the open world that sell tonics, you can buy them off the trading post, and they are often released with special events. However they are not “mystery tonics”, but rather they morph you into a guaranteed form. Example: you can buy an exotic “Warm Tonic” for about 4 silver on the tp, and it will turn you into a fire elemental as many times as you want.

Whyyyyy are people asking for RNG boxes?

There was just a new update, about 10 min ago. Only 8 are now needed.

Hey guys, I think I’ve found the problem.

The RNG as we know will often produce the same number multiple times in a row in short succession, making it not really random. So, when we were all bursting down the mobs at the same time, and they all dropped items at the same time, if RNG said we were to receive a coffer, we’d receive multiple coffers. You probably remember clearing some holos and not getting any coffers, then you’d get 4 from the next one. That’s because RNG likes to stick to the same seed number and not be random at all.

Now that we are not bursting them down together (they walk apart and we kill them one at a time), RNG has a chance to be more random, and now the true coffer drop rate is more accurately reflected.

Hi, just want to note that it’s possible to code things so that certain words are exempt from the blanket ‘kitten censor’. For instance, the abbreviation for ‘away from keyboard’ gets censored because of the f followed by a k, which…looks like the f-word I guess?

It’s silly to have things like “want it” censored because the person typoed and left out the space, and the forum thinks they are talking about breasts.

And we all know what would happen if you wanted to talk about a certain dagger-wielding profession from GW1.

To add my own opinion: I think it’s very important that “participate in X pvp event” achievements do NOT exist, as they encourage people to ‘away from keyboard’ in pvp, which ruins it for people that want to play a balanced game.

Conundrum Cubed is very short and easy once you know the jumps. It has a lot of red herrings you can avoid.

As others said, Pearl Islet and Urmaug’s secret are easy. I’d suggest learning Urmaug’s if you just want to do one for dailies, since it’s free to travel to. I do Obsidian Sanctum for dailies, but it’s by far one of the hardest.

Also every time I kill the Dredge Commissar, I do the Tribulation Rift Scaffolding puzzle, so that has become quite easy for me. It also has some red herrings though. It’s a good puzzle to do for daily puzzle discoverer since it has a second puzzle you can just discover at the end of the first one.

They might as well just hand us the laurels if they make it any easier…

If you aren’t getting your dailies easily, you should diversify your playstyle. And by that I mean: start gathering random things, or kill ambients when you pass them. Honestly, what do you do in the game that makes it so hard for you to get dailies done? Even if you spend all your time doing cof1, you’re likely to get 3/5 dailies without even trying, most days.

Just look at the dailies that you can get playing ANYWHERE:

• events/group events
• kills
• gathering
• condition application/removal
• dodging
• interrupts
• ambient killer
• level
• skill points
• veteran kills
• champion kill
• karma spending
• crafting (takes 10 sec to go refine 10 materials)

the list goes on…

Just look for places where you can get multiple dailies done at once (like kills + underwater/location kills) if you want to save time.

They told us on the stream the other day (about dragon ball) that the dragon ball achievements don’t count, and this was intended. However they didn’t tell us that they wouldn’t count, so I foresee them making it count.

Either way, people akitteng for the 20 game achievement has made dragon ball unplayable for me, so I think it’s something they need to consider in the future. Either stop people from akitteng, or don’t give them a reason to akitten the first place.

As a thousand people have said before me: “Stop buying them if you don’t like them”. If people stop buying them, ANet will stop selling them! Simple. Every person that hopes the next RNG box will be fair, and buys them for this reason, is furthering the existence of these boxes. Just stop.

It’s a wonderful sink! I don’t have enough gold to let it average out, so I stopped after I lost 3g. I only placed in the top 3 20% of the time, but odds say you should place in the top 3 60% of the time.

The point of them is for all their other uses: the achievement, turning them in for other useful candy, and enjoying eating a dragon! It’s the candy corn of Dragon Bash, only it’s actually useful because you can convert it into nice level 80 candy.

That would be a reference to the infamous 55 Monk from GW1; a build which took advantage of having a tiny 55 point health pool protected by a special buff reducing all damage to 20% while maintaining healing buffs.
