i fail to understand why the most viable builds get the nerf stick, but the non viable ones are left UP (since ppl don’t use them, why bother…)

it is better to get the flat -20% recharge rate of venom’s than improvisation
improvisation= good for at least 2 different skill types (3 for best results), particularly with long CD
ex: SR, roll for inititative & devourer venom (just an example)

well, i did a lvl 38 run and got 10 rares and 2 exotics, post patch
RNG is still there, even if in smaller %
no worry, it is all for the greater good

imo banning players= bad publicity and somewhat lower income from future expansions of the game, because 95% of the cases, they won’t come back, doing charge backs etc.

there are some cases (see other games), where the circle of quitting has gone in circles (some leave, then their close friends leave, then the close friends of the friends leave etc.)
due to banning, bad contents, horrible game balancing problems etc.
i do not agree with exploiters, don’t get me wrong, but they are not the root cause
(as we say in development)
and yes, new ppl come too, i admit that,
but when the main trend: new players-(inactive+banned players)<0 then the game is going downwards. eve went -20% in staff personnel because of a “mistake” (also in revenues ofc and number of active players)
just some thoughts to think of…

An example of this would be the Snowflake fiasco back during the Holiday event. While I did not participate in this, if I had discovered this by accident while the market was in favor for it, I would have probably been banned as well not knowing that I wasn’t allowed to craft and salvage something in game for items or money.

I’m not psychic. I don’t know what is intended to be in the game and and what isn’t. I’m really trying not to be rude, but that’s the developer’s job. When I utilize everything presented to me in the game I have purchased, which has passed ANet’s QA/QC department and into the live environment, I find it disheartening that I feel like I have to question everything that I consider a clever tactic or a decent money-maker in fear of being banned for exploiting.

We’re very aware of the issue you are saying. It’s hard for us to define that a specific thing is an exploit until we know that it exists. And the moment we know that it exists, people have been abusing it. It puts us in the situation of deciding how to punish while we rapidly attempt to close off the exploit and keep it from being further exploited. My job in the equation is to close the exploit, but someone has to decide how to punish.
In the case of the snowflake exploit, we only banned people we knew did it to extreme degrees, and by extreme I mean multiple thousands. A threshold was decided on, and we acted based on hard evidence, not speculation. That’s generally how we handle every exploit we find – seal it up, figure out punishment thresholds (if any), and move forward from there.
The vast majority may only exploit things a few time as they figure it out, or accidentally exploit because they don’t know any better. Our goal is not to punish those people. But in the case of the snowflake fiasco, we had clear evidence of people exploiting it well over 15,000 (fifteen thousand) times before we managed to seal it up. Those are the people we go after – the ones who deliberately exploit with massive potential economic impact.
Some things sneak by us and our QA. We make so much content that there’s bound to be something that gets by. We try to handle it as best we can though, and I can personally vouch that nobody here has the attitude of “ban them all” – we want to make the smallest impact with our punishment while sending the most clear message that certain behavior is not tolerated.

When in doubt, post on the forums. It will draw our attention, and we’ll let you know. Or PM us / email our exploit alias.

i mean, yes, some bug exploit, but there wouldn’t be bug exploiting if there were no bugs…

As an aside, if you are posting this as a Guardian you should definitely try out a Arah without one (would force you to play as one of your alts or something).

The amount of group support a well-played Guardian brings turns every dungeon and fractal in this game into a face-roll.

i second and third that , go fotm with 5 thieves or 5 rangers ^^

i would suggest dungeon: Extreme mode. here, is exactly like exploration, except that better rewards, but mobs/boss have +25% hp, +25% dmg, and do/cast skills 25% faster
you gain 33% more tokens, or +25% and some karma, whatever…

the thief is immune to CC because of so many stun break skills … oh wait.
it is me, or the deception shadowstep got nerfed in terms of time to use the 2nd skill? (like you have few seconds to use shadow return or loose it)

i would propose that the one that first entered dungeon/fotm to be able to kick the rest of the team, without any additional vote. (something like gtfo of my dungeon instance)

OT: kicking:
x=player number -2 (… = 5-2=3 in full party, but minimum 2 votes)
if x<2 then x=2

well, i am kicked repeatedly or just not wanted as a thief. same as rangers
engineers and necros are in the neutral zone.
while the warrior, mesmer and a bit ele are good
and guardian is a MUST

does the dev’s care that we get the boot ? i don’t think so…

dude, you haven’t read this forum lately.
it is already known that guardian/warrior/elementalist and mesmer are already too good for fotm/dungeons, and some classes suck a bit. (ranger, thief, engineer, necro)

- done by someone who is invisible
- no build up time or pre-combat requirement
- 100% crit chance
- no cooldown
- no initiative cost

While I agree with your brief analysis of killshot, I completely disagree with you about backstab, and here’s why…

  • Thieves can’t stealth for more than 4 seconds (traited) unless using Shadow Refuge, so a Thief is almost always visible before using stealth to prepare for a backstab.
  • Backstab itself does not have 100% crit chance at all unless traited, and 99% of the time a Thief will take Executioner over Hidden Killer since their crit chance is already over 50-60%.
  • The cooldown on Backstab is actually 3 seconds thanks to the revealed debuff and as long as it takes to get into stealth again via Cloak and Dagger or a utility. Cloak and Dagger uses 6 initiative (4 if traited) which regenerates at a rate of 1 per second (unless traited/using the correct utility) so each CnD uses 6 seconds (untraited) of initiative. Furthermore, if the Thief uses a utility to stealth then they have a minimum of a 40 second cooldown (Blinding Powder) before they can stealth again, slightly less if traited.
  • The skill itself doesn’t have an initiative cost, but see above for the cost of Cloak and Dagger.

Try not to spread misinformation on the forums, there’s enough of that going around already.

so for 4 ini regen = 4×1.33=5.32 sec ?
before was 1 ini every 1.66 sec, guess it changed, while lowered skill dmg…

p.s. note the poisons are quite weak, you need to go melee via dagger, so good luck staying alive too much. for shortbow – lol single target damage. (you can try spam cluster bomb and aoe poison if you have infinite ini…)
just fyi: every boss has: 10% blind effectiveness, and -50% on weakness and vulnerability durations.
basically nerf to the most things thief is good at, thanks.
ah yes, the bosses doesn’t heal so you may not say the -33% heal from poison is worth anything…
we have dancing dagger that cripples for ~2s for 4 ini, i remember now !
how about for every boss to have -50% duration on all conditions, just to troll the condition builds….
and more, the burst is practically worthless vs boss, you need to have constant dps.
how about the venom aura, where the range is 300 (shorter than HS really), and everyone in party either run like headless chickens or doing cantabrian circle, good luck applying to 2-3 of them .
about the bleeds: we can do so many stacks that, most of the time, you can’t have more than 2 of them in 1 party.
caltrops is a constant 8-10 …, add 2 LDB and you get 14-16. the other one can make 16 too ?? ofc no. (pop stealth and the 5 bleed stacks from pistol can’t go anywhere…)
also bleeding ticks do damage for every 1 sec, so having 16s and 3/4, you do only 16
the worst is when you have 1s and 3/4, 2s and 3/4 etc.
should i continue ?

i do not want us to be OP, but i don’t like to be thrown out of the party like trash…

I wouldn’t play a thief in PvE. They just don’t have enough cleave options to even be suitable for proficient dungeon running.

for 300 range ? really ?, while boon skills have 600+ ?,
and still hits only 5 targets as others, you have to tie your group with shackles for it to be effective. and because most pugs run as headless chickens…. not useful much
(or doing the cantabrian circle)

i wonder if this is a lp2 issue as usual, or there are some real unbalance among different classes?

like 5 thieves party will mostly hug the ground and spend 50%+ of the time resing one another, but a 5 guardian party can just face tank the boss….
not to mention permanent of all buffs protection/stability etc.
permanent Wall of Reflection = boss suicide even with the lol (which is no really lol…) dmg of the guardian party

but hey, the thief party can perma stealth reseting the boss whenever they need
yet we are still considered OP and must be nerfed further.
/end of sarcams

you know that balancing it in wvw, you killed it in pve, yes?
no one listens or cares
at least pop a message box whenever you create a thief mentioning that that class is only for wvw and pvp

other classes might need a bit of tuning as well.

the only ideea i can think of is to cut 1 second from C&D to 2 seconds of stealth (3 if traited), hs/smoke field also 2 seconds of stealth (3 if traited)

in compensation, i want pve buffs !

we are already unwanted/kicked from dungeon/fractal parties !

is this all you wanted, isn’t it ?, but seems is just not enough…
let me tell you something, i won’t reroll another class because you guys always complain about wvw.
if i am still unwanted (my thief class) in fractals/dungeons parties i will simply leave the game. here you have a thief that only goes to wvw to do my daily events (killing dolyaks, guard points till i get to 5), underwater fish kills.
i avoid combat if possible (unless the guy is really asking for it)

i want to be able to do the “support” part as promised at the beginning !
all classes should be able to be support, as all can go glass cannons !
we want our fair share, but NO one is listening
and the thief vs guard is just an example.

this is a quote from the pdf i payed (package base+10e pdf guide lol) but seems i was lied to:
“Was that guardian there for DPS or damage mitigation? Yes, of course, the answer is that he was there for both.
Almost all characters will contain elements of healing, mitigation, and DPS. Each player should shift the balance of
these three elements to match the needs of the group.”

ok mr wise guy, how about the 1 meter tall smoke screen wall, where the curbed nature of projectiles (the tree in swamp, harpy happines knockback ball) makes the “jump” over my wall, efectively nulifing it.
the wall of reflection is wider, lasts much longer, and the reflect makes the boss suicide basically
not to mention the full guardian heal on ally party members (read 100% hp to all) on a short CD, aegis spam, a lot of the protection boon etc….
there are so many + on the guardians that makes them invaluable for every party
how about the rest of us for a change ??!!!

let’s say, for the sake of comparison, we have 3 condition thieves:
2 of them can already keep the 25 stack limit (caltrops/max condition duration etc)
so the other one(s) that do bleeds can go afk, because their damage is neglected anyway
see what i mean ???
ah yes, did i mention that if you have 6 and 3/4 seconds, you only do damage for 6 seconds (say hello to rounding DOWN dmg)

either halve the time for the bleed, and double it’s dmg, OR lift the 25 stack limit somehow, really really really bad design on thisone.

do you know how small the blind fields are, no ? vennom aura is so small in radius that makes you cry… at least i saw the poison field is a bit bigger on the short bow !

that’s why i am complaining, the thief is not really accepted into a high fotm party, while
every party and their mother needs at least a guard…

no one seems to care. i wrote a small poem:
holy trinity, my kitten
the guardian, is all 3 of them in 1 class…
