this guide is outdated and confuses a lot because it’s not the reality in the game now
dude, i do not care about your stupid WVW or PvP, i want to be useful in PvE parties ! and not to be kicked like trash, did you guys wonder why all parties want 1-2 guardians, 2-3 warriors, and a mesmer ???
sure eles are ok-ish too 1 in them ..maximum 2.
the rest can eat a carrot i guess…
continuous nerfs every patch for the thief class that also affects pve, this is the way to kill the class where it already doesn’t shine, congratulations
one of the reasons i roll a guardian now :P
p.s. the venom aura ring, and the caltrops/uncatchable appearing on the ground was a great way not to affect pve, basilisk buff apeparing/shadowstep ring etc.
however i think they missed the red/combat ring for Infiltrator’s Strike (sword 2)…

vennoms are garbage at present even WITH aura sharing
the dev team doesn’t agree…
why only 300 range for aura sharing i fail to udnerstand.
Thief is great in PvE, just need to learn to play it properly.
i think your are blind or something, whenever ppl see 2 thiefs in a party, they leave. and there is nothing you can do about it. however, pugs love to have 2-3 guardians in a party…
How often do you see “LF1M thief for …”? I see warrior guardian, elementalist, mesmer and occasionally some other class, but I don’t think I have ever seen someone wanting or needing a thief.
The reason is obvious, and has been stated many times before: thief has no place in PvE, period. Its a redundant class, and its spot in a group is always better filled by another profession.
and we are still nerfed to hell and back in PVE … if the reason is to kill the class in PvE entirely, please do not bleed us to death with small nerfs EVERY patch.
at the moment i am creating a guardian, because it is the most loved class in PvE, along with warriors and mesmers.

i am open for changes, but not crippling/breaking class ones

i think that d/d thief in the video is OP !!!
my pve thief feels “violated” while other classes remain OP in their fields
dps/party support/mobility etc.

A-net got trolled by the “elitists”, they wanted a harder dungeon in AC, a-net gave them. The player base got trolled and moved on to cof
The elitists want COF “buff” now. The question is: a-net listens to the few with bad ideas, or to the many ?
1. the knockback fest from the preiscopes are just awful
2. you are downed 50% of the time and they have 1200++ range, wtf.

don’t get me wrong, i played CS 1.3-1.6 , diablo 1-2, eve online, quake 3 etc. didn’t had problems
but the old graphics like castle wolfenstein, heretic, this add-on etc. just causes me sickness
p.s. i also usually also get lost from my party members, and i do not know how i can go to them !! the M key doesn’t help…

i don’t know, for me popping 1 unload on the bubble, i am not so sure it removes 8 stacks…
i can unload at least 3 times, which should be 24 stacks down, so far it doesn’t do that….

your naked’ness+skill should compensate with pug’s lack of skill+gear

in my opinion:
9/10 for the ideas
2/10 for testing and implementation
overall, the new AC is a big disappointment, but nothing i didn’t expect
(thinking about when gast was dead from meleeing some mobs and the boss spammed happily the impossible to stay alive rock rain)
tip: sometimes i am glad some safe spots are missed by the aoe, you can actually finish your dungeon without depending on an unreliable NPC !

Fourthly, I feel that Traps are very lacklustre at the moment. I have used each Trap maybe five times in PVE and overall I find that the Traps are not worth the utility slots.
+9000, completely waste of utility unless it can affect multiple targets, even the shadow one is lacking the “instant detonation and give stealth” unless someone triggers it, will never use them in pve unless they can do some aoe or affect multiple mobs passing trough them.
p.s. the imobilize one is good for the dredge power suit to stop under the cauldrons, but then again, caltrops does a much better job…

1) Pain response only removes if the thief is already at 75% health and THEN struck with a condition… it does not remove at 75% health
2) The signet cures a condition for each ally nearby… this is true
3) Shadow step does as you say
4) Inf Strike assumes 1 weapon combination
5) The heal that you speak of is a stealthing heal
If you look at the abilities of a thief, they center around stealth… there is a reason for that… just like a necro’s abilities center around death magic and an elementalist centers around elemental magic. So lets take away stealth from thieves… what you have then? A warrior with little to no defense, toughness, vitality, or any other advantage… yup that makes loads of sensePain Response actually triggers when below 75% health and struck, which assuming we are talking about the ranger traps doing mad damage will get you below 75% damage and I find it hard to believe the ranger won’t be trying to hit you. The stealthing part of the heal doesn’t matter if you really need to get some conditions off you, you need to make that tactical decision just like guardians who have a 1per10 removal on their heal, do I heal and not be able to remove a condition? Or same thing for a warrior, do I heal and give up regen? The point was that if you want on demand condition removal without worrying about reveal, you have options. Heaven forbid that thieves don’t get everything in a single build.
Thief skills/traits aren’t all focused around stealth either, some deal with dodging/evading, some deal with stealing, and some deal with traps and others venoms. The thief isn’t based solely on stealth and all the thieves here complaining prove that stealth was far too powerful if it “breaks” the class for them. A good build tries to make use of multiple things, that is why the good thieves that use stealth in addition to dodging, evading, shadowstepping, traps, etc will not be majorly impacted while the “OMG STEALTH IS EVERYTHING!” thieves think the sky is falling.
Do you even have a clue what a thief can do out of stealth? A shadowstepping thief can make you want to pull your hair out. A dodging thief is stupidly slippery especially if they are condition based and using dodgetrops. I have 20k hp, 2600 armor, and a ton of dodging on my thief so your description of no defense, vitality, and toughness is PURELY your decision. Get some PVT gear, spec into acrobatics, learn to use shadowsteps, get a trait for vigor; the options are there but YOU aren’t taking them. Don’t get me wrong, the base 8k health and 200+ armor some classes get for no apparent reason is stupid, I’ve been posting about that since launch :P
when the 25 max bleed stack limit is lifted, then you may dare talk
for pvp/wvw it may be good, but in pve when you also have a necro in the party, then your damage is severely reduced because extra bleeds are “dropped” without doing damage, not to mention if you have 15 sec and 3/4 bleed time… chopping the 3/4 part without any apparent reason.
until those 2 issues are fixed, bleeding thief is crap in pve unless he is the solo bleeder in the party. (fyi caltops alone tend to spam 10+stacks)

i do NOT agree that my whole “Shadow Arts” trait line to be useless for 4 seconds every time i come out of stealth not breaking it via attacking, reduce revealed to 1-2 seconds and MAYBE we have a deal

it is strange that other classes can just swap weapons and be able to use other skills
but when i miss 1 c&d i loose 1/2 of my ini AND is of no use if i weapon switch unless i have 30 in acrobatics (which, usually, i do not have)
you guys are just clueless how the thief initiative works…
when stealth is nerfed, did anyone think that my Hide in Shadows will NOT work properly anymore when i get the revealed debuff ?? and all my traits “on stealth” will be useless. So, let me know about the op-ness here
i also want that other classes have penalties at their traits!!! because mine won’t work while revealed debuff is active !

Deadly Arts is trash except for vennom build
thief can be oh-ish in the right hands, doing good (burst) damage
if you miss your dodge, you are downed, other classes can tank the damage instead
so, if you have low reaction times, thief is ok
else roll a warrior/guardian/mesmer
however, burst damage is not good vs bosses and in high level factals since vets don’t get gibbed even if you use all your ini
burst dmg is good ONLY in wvw and PvP
Hi all. I want to complain that the portal allows too many to pass trough.
Out of nowhere we get rolled by 20+ ppl. AND on top of it the mass quickness without penalty to all is even more OPall aoe (including portal and mass quickness should effect maximum 5 people ! not 9999 !!!) the stealth curtain is the same story… as other skills
and shadow refuge is only for 5 !where is the balance in this game ?
and the range should be less than 9000km between the portals !!!!

i wouldn’t mind if 5 would come out of the portal, it would be a semi fair 5 vs 6 fight.
but 5 vs 21+ doing 1 instant skill ? no. just no.
portal bombs are as most bad as perma stealth thieves.
due to culling, you are dead before they are rendered.
and the worst part is that they can have children after being casted, by mesmers that come trough it
