So I started leveling a thief as my second 80, and I wanted to find a strong build for what suits me best. I want to go D/D and focus on WvW, but some dungeons and PvE in the mix. I thought I had a good build with 30/30/0/0/10, but then I found out that venom builds aren’t viable for thieves, and I’m not sure why. I would prefer SB secondary, but I’m open to suggestions.
give me 1 reason to share my build
so it can be nerfed the next patch ?
you can’t keep up the perma vuln even at bosses, because of 50% time penalty…
same with weakness (i hate this http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unshakable) ….which it would be like a nerf in pve…
since when mobs did crit ?!?
for pvp/wvw i understand that most have 50%++ crit rate….but pve mobs???
what can you do in 1.5sec of vuln from body shot?
add in a cripple or something useful…

it would be great if it would replace a useless minor trait somewhere
(example would be the shadow arts tree, the last which gives might on stealth)
or the one on trickery the +1%dmg per initiative … it’s useless for a condition (tree) build really…
ahahahah .. this reminds me of the November patch when everyone anticipated the instagib build being nerfed into the stone age ..
A quick look over and permastealth isn’t touched, yet a lot of the decent alternates (S/D in particular) are gonna get hammered .. can see where we’re being steered, lol.

alas the ratios of time are not the same for everyone
some earn 30k$/month+, others 3k$ in a year :P

The nerf to infiltrator’s strike…making it not a stun breaker…is this serious? If so, they completely killed the non-stealth thieves and an entire style of play.
I’m running a non-stealth thief and I’m in hog heaven with these changes. Could you be a little more specific about what sort of build you are saying is “completely killed” by the infiltrator’s strike change?
actually i use the IS/SS for the condition removal, the break stun is an added bonus :P
i always said that rangers being OP, but on one believed me !

meh maybe if your a glass cannon. I dont get that hit that hard considering i evade most hits and has invisibility plus shadow steps.
anyways, the point is a warrior with those stats is a glass cannon and should not be roaming at all.

we got into a fight with a mesmer.
Got mesmer down. was about to use the stomp.
I had 12 k hp left of my 20 total..
I saw a poff of smoke.. and then i was dead. looking at the target that killed me.
a Thief…My first reaction was… wtf realy ?? 12 k hp.. insta killed. on heavy armor… seriously.
WTF is wrong with the Designers that should balance this game.
On top of the supreem mobility on a thief. it has invisibility. that not even Dots uncloak… they dont even leave a bleeding trail or anything… just… gone.
And Also thieves have this stupidly insane op burst dmg, wich you cant realy protect yourself against… your dead before you react.Because the fight is like this most of the times:
I target a thief.. i start to shoot at him..he notice he gets dmg and vanish…
switch weapons to prepare melee…
2 seconds later. you see a poff of smoke around you.. THIEF…
You start to swing.. “my hp is fine, i get this”… “WTF.. iam down already ? its 2 seconds into fight”…My warrior in 20 k hp.. have actually been 3 hitted by a thief..
It was the most stupid thing i have ever seen.
Sure, that thief had full zerker gear and low hp…
but who needs hp if you can 3 hit 20 k hp…Feck, i dont want to know the dmg they can do against Light armor.

one in my guild occupied 6 ppl for 15 minutes…then they got lucky and could chain lock him.

you should be ashamed, the warrior class is the most OP class in pve, along with the guardians
thieves have only wvw roaming, since we kinnda suck at everything else (aka another class does better)
when i think your class have INVULNERABILITY on shield, i think you should be banned for noobism

i got /laughed by ppl after they killed me 4v1 or even more…
sometimes i laugh when players avoid the fight, when they don’t even come out from the wp …
the problem is there aren’t emotes like /spit or /rude
i would like other emotes, like pee (or poo) on somebody’s dead body after you killed him :P
just for added humiliation
maybe digging a grave too ?
just adds some self accomplishment while the defeated tastes the frustration along with the injury

the only thing thief is good for, is trolling the wvw players via roaming (1vs1 surprise attacks)
glass builds+stealth= win or withdraw

the dev noobs instead of fixing the traps for pve usage, we receive random undocumented nerfs…

i want all teleport skills to have maximum 1200 range!

condition dmg for thief is crap in pve since MOST of the skills are direct damage :P
and the condition ones are subpar (1/2 condition, 1/2 direct? wtf)
conditions can’t crit, suffer the 25 stack bleed limit, caltrops was nerfed to 10sec,
vulnerability is useless…
so even a balanced build is much better than a full condition one…
and from ALL of our skills (p/p, d/p, p/d, s/d, s/p, bow)
we have 2 skills good for condition AND ONLY 2
LPD and sneak attack.
p/d is out of the question for pve (no aoe, lol dps)
LeapingDeathBlossom is okish, but really high on the ini cost, and considering the ini regen, 1/4sec evade is laughable….
YOU get better damage by autoattack on sword with a balanced build with 0 ini spent
the balance team doesn’t know that “balance” means , really… they random nerf things with no clue

Whom both of them were level 80
maybe some of their armor was broken ?

How would you describe Blurred Frenzy with 2sec invulnerability and 10sec CD as?

TL;DR – I don’t know how to fight thieves and they always kill me. Instead of learning how to fight them I think they should be nerfed!

Been noticing this a lot now where thieves can just spam boon steal with http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Larcenous_Strike
Now it requires 3+1 initiative to steal 2 boons and it’s not blockable, now because of the no cooldown broken intiative regeneration system in Guild Wars 2 they can spam boon steal in spvp matches.
Within seconds they strip you of 6+ boons and give 6+ boons to themselves and there is no counter to it other than DO NOT USE BOONS….
Now you have no idea when you will be coming up against boon stealing thieves but it is happening more and more often, there is no counter to it other than do not use any boons or give any boons to your team….which is not a counter…
It is negatively effecting team work also, as was suggested by player feedback that was not listened to by anet how your actually hurting the team by giving boons to them or hurting yourself by using any boons what so ever…so you become completely useless to your team and also actually hurt your own team by helping the enemy through boon stealing…
It needs some serious looking at and balancing because at the moment the balance is completely out of whack with it being spammable and with no counter towards it…
i agree with the OP here, thieves need more nerfs !

ppl don’t understand. developers and lot of ppl worked to create the custom arenas. you think they work for free?
Perfect example of how jacked facing a thief is right now. I’m fighting a thief as a turret engie (Ya I know, but it’s fun :P). Hit him a few times and place my turrets as he enters for the kill. Pop my turret abilities and he gets perma-blinded, has like 10 seconds of burning, has 6+ stacks of bleed, Rocket Turret lands the first knockdown, I time the supply crate for the second stun, rocket turret knocks down a third time. All knockdowns in a row without him being able to act after eating the first one.
At this point the thief still has all the burning, bleeding, and now poison on him, is at 5% hp, and is stunned on his back while immobilized. Shadow Return, Hide in Shadows, runs away at half health with no conditions on him already out of combat.

So lets add this up, shadow return removes 3 conditions, teleports you back to where you started from up to 1,200 away, and breaks stun instantly. Hide in Shadows removes all damaging conditions, so any conditions that hurt would be gone and the thief is far away stealthed and running away.I really don’t know what more I could have done. I condition stacked, immobilized, stunned, and generally wrecked his face but he gets a get out of jail free card. I mean ya I wrecked his face because he was blatantly terrible (rocket turret knockdown is MASSIVELY telegraphed), but he still doesn’t even have to die for being terrible.
