Paying TP flippers is what I’m reduced to it seems if I’m to get ANY kind of legendary.

Personally if sigil’s, rune’s and trait’s don’t work correctly what makes you think RNG is functioning correctly.

And of course my friend here:

2800 hours played:

-3 Precursors in WvW
-3Precursors in Open PvE
-2 Precursors in the Maw Fractal
-3 Precursors from the Mystic Forge

The last straw for me was today. I used all my savings that i’d accumulated since GW2 launch to buy a bunch of rare’s to throw into the Mystic toilet.

I got many exotics, none of them precursor’s and nothing that will go any great length to recover what I spent.

The most upsetting part is everything is there. The mats, gifts, map completion etc. It was only ever the precursor that was missing.

RNG has shafted me twice now and if I continue with wanting to get the ‘legendary’ I’ll take the ‘legendary’ step of grinding cof p1 and paying TP flippers in the future.

Is this what legendary is?

dude, there are just 3 easy steps:
step 1: sell your items/mats/house/car/wife/kids etc.
step 2. buy my overpriced precursor on the TP
step 3. look in the mirror for the rest of your life

why would you take that useless trait anyway ?
it is a very very unreliable trait
it DOES work, but 1/5 chance to recharge the skill type you used
use the healing signet, 1 deception, 1 trap, 1 trick and the basilisk venom for a test

imo it should be 2 types or 40% chance to be even worth it
you are better of with quick venoms trait, really

the TRUE problem anet has is the fact instead of improving the game they are degrading skills to balance rather than increasing others. game should be cutting edge not dumbed down more and more so the QQers are happy. make the QQers stronger if it is a true / legit problem. thief is getting much more boring since all these nerfs.

Nerfing is their moto. You should’ve seen what they’ve done to ~80% of GW1 skills…

their motto is:

Optionals SA: Patience / Acr: Quick recovery / Utilities: Infiltrator’s signet, smokescreen
(You’ll need one of the two optional traits though)

Weapons:
D/P, optional shortbow

Longest time, 5minutes? More? I get bored after a while.

actually a few of the optionals become mandatory for perma stealth
me and a friend thief go with the enemy zerg, and after 5 minutes we get back the tower/keep ^^

unfortunately, all of the QQ bandwagon behave like this
they play poor, then make video how a friend thief is insta gib him/her, perma stealth etc.

i am not saying that we are the only ones that need work but making crap decision every patch is making this game die. period. most are waiting to jump ship when the next big MMORPG comes out. then you can atleast cut GW2 players in half.. AT least.

i really hope that will become true ^^

ANet will have to adjust it if they feel it’s overpowered. The larger problem is initiative regen and not the finishers for shadow fields. But the easiest solution would be to make leap finishers in shadowfields do something else. Like give Aegis or Protection.

Hi Thieves,

I recently started getting more active in WvW an yesterday I met a perma-stealth thief and I experienced firsthand why people hate it so much.

I am not in any glass cannon zerker setup but this guy burst me down in 5 seconds. Later on while we were sieging a tower I was throwing all known AoEs on the floor and still he was around trying to pick off stragglers. When we took the tower he went inside and despite everyone actively looking for him, he still managed to take out another guy. Granted, he did melt like butter on the surface of the sun once he executed that last guy and I threw a boatload of snares on him.

The point is, people hate this happening to them. For most people it makes them feel helpless when a thief can deliver a whole tonne of damage within seconds and they can’t counter it effectively. Sort of the shock and awe tactics that the US military loves so much.

I am tempted to say this setup is overpowered so I would like to know if you guys can offer any advice on fighting against these setup.

I read on a thread that I should stand in that smoky circle and 99% chance the thief will heartseeker me. Sorry, that doesn’t sound like a viable tactic to me. For one thing I am relying on him to screw up and if he doesn’t take the bait it will be back to square one for me. Even if he doesn’t HS me, the thief I fought against did not have the problem staying in perma-stealth.

I was in WvW yesterday on my thief with 3 guildies and some jerk face (also a thief) kept following us ALL OVER THE PLACE. We (the FOUR of us) are reasonably good players, atleast I’d like to think so, and we could not kill this guy. These “perma-stealth” builds that thieves talk about arent really “permanent stealth” but I kid you not…..this guy was in stealth 85% of the time we fought him. And when he stealthed and appeared again, he would be extremely far away (way too far to be able to get to in the amt of time he had). Idk what this guy was doing but being a thief, i know there is no build that can do what he was doing. His stealth certainly seemed almost permanent and I have no idea how he did this.

Any thoughts?

5 targets, yes all venom traits gets shared.
unfortunately 300 range kinda sux in pve, sacrificing too much (all utilities and elite) to get good for the team results (if you solo … you will have less performance than a standard build)…besides….DA sucks now except venom builds….and i don’t think they are so popular…
eg. want stun breaker: drop a utility slot
want more ini/precision/power ? drop 1 utiliy
want SR ….drop 1 more utility

Thief is very strong for DPS and this is important in PvE. (Above All)

A bad thief is bad, a good thief is going to bring the most single target damage out of any profession in an organized group.

warriors will just laugh at what you said…

I will say I read OP and skipped all the rest so pardon if this has been said.

SB did get nerfed, however it came with several trap buffs

Corrosive Traps – Trait (longer Vulnerability)
Shadow Trap – Really good. I suggest using it as a long range Stunbreker/ Teleport

I also played in the SOAC Tournament yesterday with Shadow Trap in sPvP and I will assure you of how wonderful it is

i still don’t see a use for traps in pve…

I’ve played GW2 since it first released, and thought I was “ok” at the game. Recently I’ve been running a lot of dungeons and fractals and I’m dying ALL THE TIME. I just got kicked from an AC exp group and was told by the leader “kekekeke you suck, l2p”. This is the type of reaction I get every single time I try to do group events. I’m ALWAYS dying.

I chose Thief because I liked the melee play style of wielding two daggers. The problem is, it seems literally impossible to fight anything using melee as a thief. I came up against Kholer in AC, and every time he pulled me towards him and did his whirlwind move, I died, without fail. Group leader said “omg noob learn to dodge”. That’s fair enough, but when his pull is pretty much INSTANT how can I dodge it? It’s impossible to dodge EVERYTHING but if I make 1 little mistake, I’m dead. This leads me to have to sit back and range with a shortbow for 90% of the game. If I wanted to range, I’d have gone Ranger or Elementalist or something. I’m fed up with having to sit back and just range my target constantly, knowing that if I set foot in melee position I’ll wipe.

Yet you see Mesmers, Elementalists, Guardians, Warriors all just standing and melee’ing the boss, whilst I’m stood ages away having to range. I’m constantly the first to go down in dungeons and it’s getting embarassing.

I really don’t know what the answer is. I’ve bought P/V/T gear, tried it, same result so went back to Berserker. My gear is currently as follows:

Armor – Exotic Berserker with Ruby Orb

Weapons – D/D (Exotic Berserker with Superior Sigil of Force & Accuracy). SB (Exotic Berserker with Superior Sigil of Force)

Trinkets – Exotic Berserker with Exquisite Ruby Jewel

Build – 25/30/0/15/0

Obviously this is glass cannon like, but having been reading around on this forum and GW2guru etc, “supposedly” the best way to play a Thief IS as a glass cannon, due to their need for high damage Backstabs etc. That would be fine if I was even able to pull off a Backstab, but if I try I usually die so I’m often just forced to sit back and range.

I’ve been contemplating all types of things to help me survive, whether it be changing my gear, changing my traits or what but I’m clueless as to what the best option is. It’s putting me off going into dungeons and fractals now because I know I’m gonna look like an idiot being downed all throughout. I just end up being a huge burden for my team.

What do you guys suggest? It’s getting to the point now where I’m getting so frustrated with this, I don’t feel like logging on due to the embarassment and awkwardness or dying all the time. I also read that if you were to give your Thief defensive stats (whether it be in traits or gear) you’re gimping your Thief, because they’ll do less damage than a Warrior for the same amount of survivability, or less even. Therefore, apparently you’re MEANT to run glass cannon as Thief. I mean I’ve seen videos on Youtube of Thieves using Berserker gear and running my exact build who are flying through Fractals 40 without a scratch, it’s ridiculous.

Would greatly appreciate some help with this guys!

thief sucks in pve much more than a guardian/warrior … yet….the nerfbat still hits us …. HAHAHA

Recharge rate means the speed at which it recharges, so it recharges 30% faster not 30% shorter recharge. Think of it this way.

New recharge time = (old time / 1.3) not (old time* 0.7)

i hate you guys so MUCH because of the totally random nerfs you give us each month…

OT: 100 second recharge skill
50% time reduction = 50sec recharge
+50%faster recharge rate does mean 100/1.5=66.66 seconds

If only that was the case like Rock-Paper-Scissor but the true is you are killing yourself by attacking someone standing still. It took almost no effort nor skilled to kill someone with your Reta as long as you have the right build and play it with one hand while the other hand is holding Pizza.

My initial experience with Thief hasn’t been good. I’m frustrated because I see others doing so well, especially in sPvP, but I found myself dying instantly

the thief is the most OP class in the entire game !
they can perma stealth, and hit enemies for 35k+ backstabs
also it’s a rumor that they are invincible while in stealth.

at least, this is what the majority of the non-thief population say

A possible idea I had to both empower and depower the trait line would be this:

Make Infusion of Shadow return only 1 initiative AND make it the 5 pts trait replacing Last Refuge.

i also think that would be a good ideea
and move the useless minor trait on adept, replacing the one lost, with and giving a decent CD like 30s

Edit: SR gives a total of 8 Initiative due to this trait, would be 4 with a cd on trait. Not cool.

actually SR procs for 5 times….activation+4subsequent seconds= ini 10 points

not only that you get your deserved/most wanted stealth nerf due to ini starvation,
but we also get rid of last refuge
both sides win

OR make it proc only if you do NOT have the stealth buff (the +2ini trait ON stealth..like when you do go to stealth, not already in it…), however this will make SR drop from 10 ini generated to 2 ini :P

i like the 1st option better if possible and it’s not hard to switch 2 skills and edit them a bit, also you shoot 2 birds with 1 stone as they say…

Really, who cares about pve? How can they nerf or buff something without messing with WvW and spvp?

it may not to you, but a lot of anet’s playerbase actually only cares about pve,
and they keep getting screwed over because of pvp balancing. pve balance
between classes is undeniably unbalanced and biased to a few others right now.
just take a look at dungeon grouping sites/ chat.

anet acknowledged the inherent difference between pve/pvp when they were
forced to split the skills in GW1. some skills scales well on both modes, some
are left unused since they are almost next to useless on the other.
they also started splitting the skills here as well (though very slowly)

as for wvw, there already have been numerous suggestions for it as well:
ranging from it doesn’t matter if they follow the pve skillset, to using the pvp
version of the skill with pve gear, to completely creating another skill split
for wvw for very tricky special skills, ect.
.

I did a survey a while back with 1000+ responses from members of the GW2 community. An overwhelming majority of players are in it for the PvE content and less than 10% are engaged in structured PvP.

so you know for a survery to be legit you need a randomized population of players. did you ask in an unbiased area or were you out in a pve area somewhere?

I loled.

An overwhelming majority of the players are “Forum Warriors”, “Forum thiefs”, “Forum Necros” and so on. So should all these useless thread that are on forum, and 90% are useless because its only whine, be counted as useful? You did a survey, good. Good for you mate. Im talking about real experience where 100% of my friends play for PvP/WvW and most of them left the game because of some factors like anet balancing. So if you are thief and you are crying about being underpowered, then reroll becaus eyou are doing something wrong.

but i don’t play your crappy PVP/WvW, where drama is every day and QQ everywhere and about anything
i am defending only the PVE thief i play, and i know it’s not OP here

for the thieves guild counter you can do a dagger storm = dead thieves + the player thief because the daggers like to bounce
we are meant to fight “dirty”, however duels should have a time limit :P
it’s not more unfair using SR than using the perma dodge build…
just agree before the duel w/o SR or the “untouchable” builds, just to make things fast…

Disclaimer: My main is a thief and I play WvW with a D/P & S/D set.

This trait as it currently is, counters good gameplay and Initiative management and allows the Thief to achieve the so hated “perma stealth”, which is the main reason for people “dislike” to fight thieves in my opinion.

So here is a question to fellow thieves: How would it affect your gameplay if Infusion of Shadow had a 3 seconds internal cooldown?

In my view D/P would still have it’s access to stealth without target while making it harder/impossible to maintain permanent stealth with it, the smoke field lasts 4 seconds though and some testing is needed.

well, i could not fill my empty 15 point bar with shadow refuge for perma unloads….
better lower the smoke field+blast/leap to 2 seconds of stealth (no extra second from trait) with 2-3 seconds internal CD

WHY you nerf traits when the combos are at fault ?!?
better ini management ? …. so we need weak skills and low ini regen….lol

i am happy, it could have been much worse like:

2.or remove 1 condition after 2 seconds of stealth (not proc-ing instantly as now),
3. or slower ini regeneration etc.
imo sword is/ss should have 9s return window, not 15 …15 makes you walk long distances…and be able to swap weapons. and maybe up to 3 ini the cost for the return.
that nerf would not hit so hard, imo

however, remember we are not that OP in PVE…
guardians/warriors and others come to mind here…
warrior = extra 80% base hp from us + heavy armor + best dps, good condition remover, good aoe buffs (flags and 600 range aoe healing too, might + fury)

perma stealth WILL NOT kill the dungeon boss, that’s a fact !
i am using it to revive ppl, or to heal some extra HP before going melee again
