“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Great, thank you.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
For some reason I cannot seem to find anything online which says where to find the slingshot. I’ve searched here, the wiki, Dulfys guide, and tried Google and I’ve got nothing.
I’ve also checked most of the shops in-game and haven’t seen it (although I haven’t got all the secrets in Zone 3 yet so I might have missed some).
Can someone please tell me where I can find it?
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I know that works in GW1 (you kneel in front of a statue to one of the human gods and it summons an avatar who would grant/sell you boons) but I didn’t know there was anything like that in GW2.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I never really liked WoW. Partially that’s because I was (and am) a big fan of WC2 and didn’t like the changes they made to the lore in between the two.
But I also played the free trial and found it extremely boring. I know it gets better as you progress but when I didn’t even want to play enough to use up my 10 hours I doubt I’d ever get far enough to really enjoy it. Although what I’ve heard of the end-game doesn’t sound like something I’d enjoy either.
Whereas I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas and I’m still playing every day unless I’m not at home to play. I love that this game actively encourages you to explore every aspect of the world (through things like hidden jumping puzzles, event chains that you might miss on your first time through a zone, funny NPC dialogue and of course finding all the POIs and vistas). I also like that having other players around is always a good thing, you’re never competing to “tag” a mob, or to get to a node first, and it means someone can (and almost certainly will) revive you if you die.
I also like that I feel like I have a lot of flexibility in what I do. I hit 80 at the end of March and began planning to get a full set of exotics to replace the mish mash of blue, green and yellow armor I’m wearing. Then we got first Flame and Frost part 3 and then Super Adventure Box and that plan got put on hold. I probably won’t get around to getting that armor until mid-March at the earliest.
But it doesn’t matter because none of the content I’m doing (and in fact very little overall) requires you to have the best possible gear and when I do get around to getting it I’ll be on the same ‘level’ as if I’d gotten it right when I hit 80. I won’t be behind and rushing to catch up with other players and where I “should” be.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Lot’s of things.
One of the things I like most about being in a guild is having a group of people to chat with. I’m in a very active guild so there’s always people online and if there isn’t already a conversation going on one will start soon. They also do regular events, either the guild missions, dungeon runs, or things made up by the guild.
And like other people have said it usually makes it easier to find a group for whatever you want to do. If I need someone to help with a personal story quest or a dungeon or something I get much better results asking in guild chat than map.
You don’t have to be in a guild. There’s nothing major that you’ll miss out on if you’re not but IMO the fact that it’s optional is great because it gives guild more flexibility in what they do instead of having to all focus on pre-designed ‘guild activities’ and the fact that it’s actually a choice makes it more meaningful.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I suspect they did it this way because last time this was a monthly achievement some people just parked one or more characters at the end of a puzzle and opened the chest daily/whenever it reset.
This way you can’t do that, you actually have to complete the puzzles.
(Although you only need to do 4 of the monthly achievements, so if you’re really having trouble or don’t want to do it you can skip it.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Either they’ll bring it back at a later date (next April maybe) or it’s actually going to stay longer.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I normally tweak the spelling a bit. Whether this works or not does depend on the name you’re using, I doubt anyone would ever know that I named my asura Xexxi because Xixxi was taken, (if I didn’t keep posting it on the forum) but if you call your character Daark Kniight it’s like hanging a sign around their neck saying “my name was taken”.
Alternatively adding a surname or title can work.
Or picking a name in a language that’s less likely to be used. I like using welsh, latin and quenyan but pretty much anything which can be Romanised without looking like a mess will work.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
By the way you’ll probably find (if you haven’t already) a big crowd of people and a lot of weird and crazy things going on in one corner of the asura city.
Don’t worry about it, it’s just an extended April Fools joke in the form of an instanced “mini” game. Try it out, it’s fun.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I think it’s possible to transmute any piece of equipment, except accessories because they don’t actually have a skin/model, just an inventory icon.
I think you can even use transmutation stones to copy the skin from a HoM item, even though it would be a waste of a stone.
But like Esplen said it doesn’t give you infinite skins. You still only have the one skin, you can just keep combining it with new items to upgrade the stats.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I like the fact that the animation only activates when you have the weapon drawn. It’s kind of like it’s being ‘switched on’.
It also gives you an opertunity to see the actual weapon more clearly.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Unless you’re really not fussy it might help to think about what you want from a guild to narrow it down a bit.
Do you do more PVP or PVE? Do you want people to run dungeons with? Do you want to use in-game chat or a voice chat system? Do you care which one? Are you willing to represent most/all the time or do you want to go between different guilds for different purposes?
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I was thinking about getting one but not sure. Do most people use them? Is it worth it so i can just bind my keystrokes to the mouse?
And i think this is the right topic
In my experience, most people do not use a gaming mouse. Who does? People that use gaming mice are at least quasi-serious about their gaming and demand a higher level of performance from their mice. I have used two different versions of the Razer DeathAdder, my wife is loving her SteelSeries GW2 mouse. But remember that these mice are designed and built for performance not durability.
The Razer DeathAdder mouse has a habit of losing their left clicking ability. From what I have found the SteelSeries does not have the issue. Gaming mice are designed for performance first, durability is something that is not really a focus, there are exceptions of course. How long a mouse will last you is determined by how you use the mouse. For me a DeathAdder last about four years, for my wife about seven years.
A word of warning, if you buy a high resolution gaming mouse, you will need to relearn how to use it. I advise using your new mouse at the highest setting and adapt to it. Remember if you have to move your hand more than an inch you resolution is not high enough. I have the setting on my mouse so high that I can move the cursor across both screens with less than half an inch of finger movement, no hand movement at all.
I hope this helps.
2 things:
1) You can get gaming mice with good build quality. Just, in my experience, not from Razer. Like any product it varies a lot between companies, some are excellent, some are terrible, a lot fall somewhere in between.
I haven’t had mine for long enough to really judge but I’ve heard good things about Logitech’s durability (and had good experience with their other products) which is part of why I went with them after being unimpressed with my Razer Diamondback.
2) The highest resolution is not always best. It depends on what you’re doing. A lot of FPS players for example like to turn it down so they can get more accuracy when aiming – if you’re going for a long range head shot and moving your mouse as little as possible and jumping from slightly to the left of your target to slightly to the right then it’s no good.
The things that usually set gaming mice apart is that you CAN get that high resolution and you can switch between settings easily. With a normal mouse I have to open up Control Panel, click devices, right click the mouse and go through the settings menu. On a gaming mouse I can change it by pressing one button, or I can set it to change automatically depending on what program I’m running.
They also usually have a shorter response time, so you don’t get as much lag between you moving the mouse or pressing a button and a reaction in-game. Although most people probably won’t notice a difference.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You don’t need to follow both paths in zone 3. I’ve only ever done the smiley face route and I got the achievement.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Minor point but survival of the fittest doesn’t really exist in evolution either. It’s more death of the least fit. You don’t have to be the best to pass on your genes, you just have to good enough to get by.
And considering no classes are being removed from this game, and they certainly can’t reproduce to create new, better ones I’d have to say no.
There is an emerging meta-game with favourite/flavour of the month builds and classes (for example before Christmas necros were widely regarded as too squishy, too broken and generally useless, by about February they were the must-have class for WvW).
But that’s more of a rotation with slight variation in builds over time than any kind of progression.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
This is 1/2 the reason I really wish they’d add a mini pet slot to the Hero tab (the other reason being you wouldn’t have to keep remembering to get them out again).
So many times I’ve thought I lost a mini because I accidentally deposited it. (Or panicked because it wasn’t in the bank and I forgot another character had it.)
I definitely recommend investing in an invisible bag or box, they’re useful not just for this but for anything you could sell but want to keep, like runes you want to put in the bank or spare weapons.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I have a fairly basic one – G400 which has 5 extra buttons (on top of the standard 3).
I didn’t want one with tons of buttons because I only wanted to shift a few common commands to the mouse so I can either play one-handed briefly (usually because I’m eating something) or so I can keep my other hand on the attack keys.
My actual set-up is a constant work in progress, I keep shifting things around as I change my mind on what I use but luckily the software is really easy to use and I don’t even have to close the game to make changes so that’s not a problem.
I was always skeptical of gaming mice but haven’t tried them I don’t think I’d go back.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Only 8 people are working on SAB out of a team of about 200 total staff. (And I think they’ve finished.)
But the devs rarely answer questions on the forum simply because there’s so many that if they tried to keep up they would never have time to do anything else. (Especially since regular answers would just lead to people demanding a dev answer everything.)
Personally I’ve never heard of a way to dye weapons, or any other way to change the colour. Like JustCurious I suspect what they did was put a weapon or a group of weapons into the Forge and got back one with a similar but slightly different skin. There are a few very similar skins, especially for basic weapons, but they are still different weapons.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Thanks guys.
That makes sense actually. I remember being confused once when I started with 2 lives instead of 5. I can’t remember now if I had a Super Coin on that go but it would make sense.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
It could easily be all 3, and maybe more we haven’t thought of yet.
Although I agree that the queen beedog shooting bees is probably a Simpsons reference.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
As an alternative I think after it’s removed from GW2 it should be available as a seperate browser/downloadable game.
There’s actually enough content in it for it to work as a full stand-alone game.
I’m not sure how much time and effort it’d take to convert it, but they could easily sell it for the same price as other downloadable games and it’d be a lot quicker than making one from scratch so I think it’d work out.
(My one condition is that if it’s downloadable it needs to be available on 3DS because I don’t have a smart phone or tablet.
)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Sometimes when I enter Super Adventure Box I start holding a Continue Coin to give to Moto, other times I have to get one from the vending machine.
Every time I’ve entered solo so I know it’s not that someone else gets it.
Does anyone know why this happens?
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I have to admit even having played old 8-bit games (still do actually) when I first saw screenshots on my guilds Facebook page I thought they’d just recreated their avatars in Minecraft.
Although that’s partially because a lot of people from my guild do play Minecraft and at the time it seemed the most likely explanation.
The style does look more like Minecraft than true 8-bit games, some of the textures are a bit too detailed and the lighting effects are clearly copied over from the normal GW2 world. But it is dissapointing that people don’t know the style it existed before.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Answer!
Maybe to give us an idea of what the next world will be like and what to expect? And so we know there will be more coming and they didn’t just call it World 1 to fit the style.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
In the original Legend of Zelda you didn’t actually need any of the extra items. Unlike later games any enemy was vulnerable to any weapon, so you could in theory go through the entire game with just the sword. (Actually if you know the way you can just walk straight to the final dungeon.)
Also I think this might have been a bit much for a small team of people doing a very quick job. Although if SAB was going to be permanent/re-appear later on it might be worth thinking about. Maybe for that hard mode the angry cloud seems to be hinting at.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I want a mini of the cloud from infantile mode. Maybe it could periodically launch a small rainbow too.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You can. As long as you’re not sending lots of gold or valuable items to a lot of people you shouldn’t be tagged as a gold seller.
But if you reward everyone who ressurects you then you’re either going to need to get very good at this game or you’re going to be quite broke.
They already get XP, a point towards a title if they haven’t gotten it already, and the reassurance that encouraging everyone to get into the habit of ressurecting everyone else makes it more likely that someone else will help them when they need it. All for pushing 1 button and waiting around for a few seconds. I’m sure they’ll be happy without an additional reward.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
One thing you could try is finding adverts for the job you want, or similar jobs, and looking at their requirements.
If they want you to have experience in a particular kind of job or task, or require specific qualifications find out what you need to get that.
Keep working backwards until you reach the point you’re at now (ie until you find a job or course you’re completely qualified to do) and you’ve got your path to follow.
Although you should also bear in mind that career paths are very rarely linear. There’s usually many different options for reaching your goal, and many more points where you’ll suddenly find your goal has shifted and you actually want to do something slighly different.
But I found the approach above very helpful. I was trying to get into something quite specific but unfamiliar to a lot of career advisors and similar people (UK wildlife conservation). I got a lot of different advice, a lot of which proved to be useless to me so it was hard to know what I should do until I started looking at what was required for the jobs I wanted.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
At least one of them will be an underwater world. Based on the fact that one of the gaps in the clouds on the map screen seems to be showing an under water area and based on the fact that all old school platformers had one and it was nearly as evil as the lava level. (Worse if it’s Zelda. kitten water temple.)
I’m hoping for an Ecco the Dolphin theme there, but that seems unlikely.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I was going to buy Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on 3DS download this month. I didn’t. Instead I’m playing Super Adventure Box and spent the money on the mini pets.
That’s how much I’m enjoying playing this.
(And if anyone’s wondering yes I’ve played ALTTP before, I know what I’m missing. And I will get it eventually. Just not this month.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I was thinking earlier this could easily be a full game in it’s own right.
Not a full priced PC game of course (not these days anyway, back in the 80’s it could) but if it was released seperately as a downloadable game for the iPad or Nintendo 3DS or something, or a browser game, it’d be brilliant. Better than a lot I’ve seen people playing.
Also I don’t find it hard to believe that this was put together by a small team relatively quickly. It’s similar to a lot of games I’ve seen which were put together by an individual or a small team over a few months as their first attempt at a game. Not hard at all to believe that experienced developers with all the resources of an established company available (and a lot of the software in place already since it uses the same engine and a lot of the same mechanics as GW2 does normally) could put it together in a fraction of that time.
At the same time I have to say I’m really impressed by the amount of content there. When I first played it I was expecting something that could be done 100% in an hour or two without any walkthroughs or anything. I was not expecting all these hidden areas, different paths, power-ups and additional items etc.
I feel like they could have “gotten away with” a lot less content and it’s impressive and encouraging that they went above and beyond that and put so much into it.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
484 hours in and I’ve had 1 drop.
It came from a low level enemy in the Sylvari starting area when I was playing a low level character. I know it’s completely random and any unidentified dye can turn into any dye but for some reason I feel like it should have come from a high level zone.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Charr were very much a race in GW1 (right from the first area in the first game) and have the longest history in this game. Asurans and Norns were added much later (EoTN) and Sylvari are new to GW2.
I would doubt that Charr were ripped from WoW as GW1 and WoW came out close to the same time and GW1 was long in development, meaning the Charr were designed before the success of WoW was apparent.
Charr make sense as a playable race due to their history in the game. They are a much more intelligent race than an Ogre would be. Ogre’s are barely sentient.
All of that said, Charr is my least favourite race.
Actually the Tauren made their first appearence in Warcraft 3, so it would be possible for them to be an influence on GW1.
I don’t think they are, as many people have said other than being a big, beastial race they have absolutely nothing in common, but chronologically it would be possible.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Elves are about 50% of the reason I got into fantasy originally, the other 50% being dragons. For a while my approach to choosing new books was entirely to look for anything with the word elf or dragon on the cover.
Any time I have the opportunity my main character is either an elf or a half-elf and when I don’t I normally go for the most elf-like race. GW2 is an exception, she’s human because I wanted her to be descended from my GW1 characters, otherwise she would have been a sylvari. But I do also have a sylvari called Alleria Wildrunner, so I’ve still shoe-horned my elf fix in there. (And no I couldn’t go play WoW instead because I’ve never liked that game, largely because of what they did with the elves.)
But even I wouldn’t want elves in this game. As many people have said it’s nice to have something different sometimes, and I don’t think elves would fit in to Tyria, even if they had been introduced in Eye of the North when the norn and asura were added.
Besides it’s not like you’re short of games with elves if you want them.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I don’t know.
I kind of agree with the people who say it wouldn’t be as special or exciting if it was permenant. I also think I’ll get extremely sick of the people who seem convinced that this one update is the absolute expression of everything Anet ever intended GW2 to be and everything they’ll be adding in the future. I’m kind of sick of them already, but it’d be even worse if this stays in-game and they stay convinced all future updates will be along these lines forever more.
On the other hand I’m really enjoying playing it and there’s far more content than I’ll be able to get through playing for an hour or two each evening (which is all I have available) so I’m going to miss out if it doesn’t stay.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
It’s an April Fools joke. It’s not an expression of Anet’s future plans for the game any more than the Commando missions in GW1 were.
If you don’t like it then ignore it. It’ll only be here for a month, then you can forget about it.
Until next year anyway.
Edit: Also don’t forget part 3 of Flame and Frost was added recently and part 4 will be added soon. If you want serious fantasy content that’s it. (Or as serious as GW2 gets anyway, or fantasy for that matter. Even the really dark stuff has it’s comic relief.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
(edited by Danikat.8537)
I’ve managed to find quite a few myself without any hints.
In my case it helps that I spend a lot of time scrabbling around the scenery trying to climb everything just for the hell of it as that’s usually what I’m doing when I come across a puzzle.
But there’s a few things you can look out for, like waterfalls and ledges that look like you could stand on top of them but don’t have any obvious way up, ravines and caves that seem to go unusually far back (especially at the edge of the map), odd geographical features that a nearby vista seems to put a lot of emphasis on (the pirate cave in LA is an excellent example of that).
Sometimes you’ll also spot things like a patch of resource nodes (usually plants, sometimes ore) which seems totally inaccessible, or holding down ctrl+alt will cause the chest to show up even though it’s behind a wall or something.
And then very occasionally you come across something like Morgan’s Spiral or one of the ones in LA where you just look at it and think “That has to be a jumping puzzle”.
But basically if you just keep your eyes open and look out for places you can go which aren’t an obvious path you’ll come across them sooner or later.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Like everyone else said it’s up to you. If you have a use for another guardian then it’s not a waste.
So far I haven’t done it in GW2 but in GW1 I have 4 rangers, two of them even have the same secondary profession, and I wouldn’t delete any of them because I use them all for different purposes.
IMO it makes even more sense in GW2 because respeccing takes more time and money so if you’ve got two builds you want to use on a regular basis it makes more sense to have 2 characters.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
No one knows for sure because it hasn’t happened yet.
I know if you transmute a precursor it can’t be used to create the legendary any more. My thinking is it should be the same with transmuting legendaries because transmuting creates a brand new item.
But on the other hand so many people have transmuted legendaries just assuming they will still be upgraded, that I can imagine there will be a lot of complaining if it doesn’t work that way so Anet might find a way to do it just to avoid the grief.
Although that’s assuming they can. I’m not sure how it works on a coding level – it’s possible there is absolutely no way to tell which weapons have a legendary skin once the stats are gone.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
There are markers out in the world showing where a puzzle will start, and if you click on it you’ll get a message saying a guild needs to activate it.
But it’s there 24/7, whether a guild has created one or not. I once (by coincidence) logged out near one, logged back in the next day and it was still there, ended up not doing anything on that character so I was still there the day after and it was still there then.
It was the same with the bounty NPCs, they were put into the game with the update even though no one could do guild bounties for a few days.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I think so. It’s basically like putting a new skin on your entire character. Everything else stays the same.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I haven’t look at it myself but I’ve heard that it was written during the beta testing phase and as a result a lot of things are wrong or missing.
I think you’re better off using the wiki and this forum personally. The wiki covers most things and if you’re not sure you can always ask.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You can’t. Those screen shots are from the beta tests when the mini map was circular. They changed it at launch (or just before?) and it’s now rectangular for everyone.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
It’s fun when it happens but it’s a relatively minor part of the profession.
I have both and I like both but I have to say I prefer the ranger. It’s hard to say why exactly, but I have more fun using a mix of traps, pets and condition attacks than anything the thief can do. Although recently I’ve been getting really into a pistol/dagger and dagger/pistol thief.
I know it’s what everyone always says here but it’s true – I think the best option is to try both and see which you like most. Or play both.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I have 2 soulbound items in my bank. They’ve been there a while and I cannot remember which of my 6 characters they belong to. The only way I can find out is by checking with every single character when I visit the bank and keeping a list (mental or physical) of who I’ve already checked with.
This is even more frustrating when I consider that I never had this problem in GW1 because instead of simply saying “soul bound” it would say “Customized for [character name]”, meaning I only needed to check once with any character and I’d know who an item belonged to.
I’m pretty sure it would be a relatively simple change but it would be extremely helpful.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’d like more minis, but not more account bound, RNG aquired minis.
I refused to try for the 3 from the Wintersday Chest and the quaggan made from them because it just wasn’t worth the risk of paying a fortune to end up with either nothing or useless multiples.
This wouldn’t be as bad since you’re not having to spend real money and karma is relatively easy to aquire, but it would still be extremely frustrating if you kept trying for one you were missing and got stuck with multiples of one you already had.
IMO all minis that aren’t a guarenteed drop/purchase should be at least useable in the Mystic Forge and ideally tradeable too.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
So after debating this with myself for about 1/2 a day I think I’ve finally decided on toughness over vitality and then condition removal skills to deal with condition damage.
Although I’ve also just realised since I’m going to be getting the toughness from my armor I should hold off on any changes until after I’ve fought my way into Orr to get it from the shrine.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I agree that this should be sticky. Basically everything I was wanting to find in this section is in this topic.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’ll be staying out of sPvP for a while then. lol
