I’d say Guardian – has great group support and protective skills.
That being said, I was following a very capable thief commander just the other day and honestly they were one of the better one I have seen. So im sure you could make a viable build if you love playing your thief

I really would love for them to add capes. My two dreams for my Guardian are a) a long flowing white cape and b) a heavy amor hood. The hooded paladin concept is so appealing for me.
Anyway I also don’t really see any issues with capes other than clipping ones. Saying a cape is a human item is the same as saying armor shouldn’t be worn by Charr because they are big fluffy cats. Heck if they can wield an axe and wear plate then they can manage a bit of cloth on their back.

Teqilla? Almost as bad as that world boss Vodka or the dreaded Sambuca Dragon

Just out of interest – do you not consider this marginally sexist? Consider the outrage if there was a male only guild, with a male only teamspeak channel to avoid the ‘stupid comments’ from girls all so that men could prove how much better men are than women at playing GW . . I mean each to their own, I was just interested on why you have taken this stand point. Happened to be perusing the older Guild posts, no offense intended just intruiged.

Hello all,
I’m looking for a bi-lingual guild for Italian/English people (niche I know). I’m partly Italian but don’t speak it amazingly and so want to use my gaming time to better my language skills – so I’ll be extra social
A bit about me; I’m a GW1 veteran and have played GW2 since launch. I primarily enjoy WvW and main a Guardian. I love theorycrafting and will always try to create the perfect build to utilise game mechanics. I’m 100% loyal to my guild, I have no interest in guild hopping and would love to join a guild where i’d be able to make a mark. I really enjoy organising guilds as well as I have been an officer in almost all of my other guilds – its just something I enjoy. I play on Desolation, time zone GMT +0 and usually play at fairly late times (mostly around 11pm-3/4am).
I’d love to find a guild to dedicate myself to, with some organised WvW (I’m happy to help organise this if it isn’t already completely organised). I don’t mind amount Guild size, as long as there is a decent amount of core active people (who are social and fun-loving).
I have plenty more information but will keep this post brief so if you want to know more about me or think your guild might be perfect for me then please let me know
take care

In my experience, Asura are fun to play as, and I really like their cultural heavy armour. However weapons etc. are shrunk on them and therefore if you plan to have this toon as a main you might have a tough time showing off achievements such as legendaries etc.
Contrastingly, everything is overly impressive on Norns. However personally I don’t like them, I feel they are too big and clumsy.
I roll with a human Guardian and if I could go back I would definitely have rolled a Sylvari. They are humanoid and so you don’t lose any of that realism in a way but they also have interesting lore and are much more intriguing to customise as Guardians.
So I’d definitely suggest Sylvari.
Either way its the best profession

Hello,
Recently we’ve seen the introduction of new healing skills into the game. Although not my cup of tea as a Guardian, it has been exciting to see these updates. I am under the impression that further (non healing) skills are being introduced, am I right in thinking this?
I was wondering why there might be a delay in these skills. Is Anet eager not to overload players with new skills all at once? Are the skills hard to come up with? Or is it more that time is needed to balance these skills?
So with that in mind, I was wondering how balancing issues have affected the implementation of new skills which players are hoping to see. It’s just a question which I’m interested to hear an answer to, maybe even some guidance on when we can expect further skills / how long it takes to balance new skills before they are made available in-game ?
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
On a less lore focused answer, the Guardian wears heavy armour and uses staffs etc. because the Guardian’s particular play style is usually to be in the heat of the battle providing boons and protection to his allies. That’s why they need heavy armour to take the blows and use weapons that traditionally have a support / magical focus. Yes there are DPS builds but realistically the Guardian excels at being a hit-taking support character.
The concept of the class was an amalgamation between the original GW Monk and Paragon (notably the defensive magic of the Monk class coupled with the shouts and boons of the Paragon)
I believe that lore-wise the Guardians are descendants from the original Paragons except they adapted and the source of their magic abilities was no longer from the Gods

I completely disagree with the OP. I LOVE night-capping. I enjoy WvW the most at around 3am. At this time there are few people on the maps and certainly no zergs. It means I can really enjoy tactically taking towers and camps etc. with a few other players who are online. It makes WvW fun and challenging and the most enjoyable I ever find it (compared to running in a zerg train during peak hours). I can see why organised night-capping in large groups might be a problem but you cant expect people to wait around for the zergs to return so we can all ‘play fair’. Wars are 24/7 and so should WvW.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I would admit that the staff as a whole isn’t amazing. But what it does offer is some nice control/boons. With regards to the auto-attack – it is the ultimate WvWvW skill. If you are zerg training (not something I encourage) you can tag everything with a pulse and reap the benefits. Its meant to offer a little widespread damage to a weapon that is otherwise support focused.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
For the Zergtrain: Guardian
high defensive/support capabilities + multi-tagging auto-attack with staff makes life easy as pie
For roaming: Thief
Its still a little ridiculous how thieves can essentially perma-stealth their way out of anything

I find in particular that almost any shoulder piece coupled with Human T3 Heavy comes across as distorted because the armour makes a very bulbous body shape. It means that only the largest sets of shoulder armour can be used with the T3 (for example I find myself using T2 shoulders when i’d much rather be using Fanatic’s Pauldrons – which unfortunately look so puny and ridiculous with T3). Thats more nitpicking granted but just thought I’d throw in my 2 cents

Im sorry but how are people so ignorant when they post stuff like this. Firstly, I wonder since when Elementalist’s have been considered ‘below average’, especially when you compare it to the rework that is needed to Rangers & Thieves. Surely Anet should focus on classes that need it first?
20 new skills? You can’t give a class 20 new skills with complete disregard to other classes. Especially when Elementalist’s probably have the most diverse set of skills as it is.
And you say that doing this will relieve the call for more weapons? Yes, for Elementalist’s perhaps . . . But hey as long as Elementalists are happy then we can just scrap weapons for the rest of the classes, doesn’t really matter.
I don’t want to come across as rude or anything but to me this is just another thread with a crazy OPed adjustment for a single class. Let me guess, you play an Ele? Shock horror there . . . People need to learn that modifications should be necessary or benefitial to communal gameplay, not things people simply want implemented to make their own class better. From a balance perspective this makes me want to vomit in my own face.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Right so GW2 needs “desperately” everything that you want. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a desperate need for a Portugese translation . . . and police trials and prisons? hmm . .
what GW2 DOES need is more unique loot that is obtained through rare drops so that not every single player looks the same as soon as they hit 80 . . . GW2 lacks that satisfaction of achieving gear which makes people go “kitten where did you get that?”. Its just a case of – hit 80, run dungeon, look the same as everyone.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Agreed that Guardians need a better ranged weapon before getting more melee ones. Though i do agree that axes should be an addition to Guardians. Also a lot of people claim they are too violent but compare it to the brutal bludgeoning of a mace and they look rather PG if you ask me
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast

Surely a hair change for say 1g would be a nice little gold-sink which Anet seem so keen on
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Im sorry, perhaps I’m being naive but surely the cost to add subtitles is minimal. I mean ‘spending money for translation’ – does no one realise that this cost is tiny? Add all the text in GW2 and hire a few translators and in a few weeks (if that) it will be translated and that would cost little. The real expense is changing the game text of NPCs and the implementation of that. I’m less sure of this but I would assume that:
Cost of translation < New game purchases of an entire additional demographic
I mean are there not already multiple language versions for the asian v english-speaking markets?
I agree though that there are some languages that should take priority (Spanish) because Italian is not very widely-spoken (and I’m Italian!)

What astounding detail in this post haha kudos.
My main was a ritualist in GW1, I absolutely loved the class and its mechanics. My only worry would be that the concept of summoning spirits and then sending them at the enemy would be branching too close to mesmer’s phantasms. Still I love the idea and will always endorse a ritualist profession being developed. Well done for taking the time to plan it out so thoroughly. Its a shame we won’t be seeing any new professions for a long while yet
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I’m interested to see this build, mind sharing?
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
The build looks interesting but I am always apprehensive about condition builds for the Guardian. The fact that you can’t stack burning and us not really having access to other conditions coupled with most people having usually quite efficient condition removal (especially in WvW) means that its hard to deal lots of damage, especially compared to some of the other builds out there. I do appreciate that this build is coupled with support skills but honestly it seems a little lack-luster to rely on the burning mechanic. Still I guess its something to try if thats your play style.
In terms of suggestions, I would always bring Shelter instead of SoR because the block is always useful, especially in WvW (for both large scale AoE/DPS as well as an escape mechanic). I often use Aegis/RF/Shelter if I need escape time and that grants a good t seconds of invulnerability and 2 blocks on top of that (if used before/after RF).
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I don’t believe they will ever do a race change because of the Personal Story aspect. But I have always wondered if you could just change race and your Personal Story resets to the beginning of the Story for the new race. You would only start getting rewards when you reached the stage you were at with your original character to stop people abusing this system. It seems like a fairly simple idea to implement tbh though I’m sure its more complicated in reality.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Sounds like a glorified kitten that can heal itself with every attack and whack out every and any condition known to this game. I’ll be honest, I appreciate the work you clearly put into this concept but I really dislike the idea, no offence.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I certainly had trouble with this when I was first discovering the maps. Had to consult websites a lot because it was just so unclear in some areas
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I agree . . the most offensively-focused, weapon-diverse, killing-machine profession does need more ways to attack something . .
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I believe there is already a massive thread on this in the WvW section with ideas on profession counts included as part of a Commander revamp. I do however agree with the idea
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I do think that there is a problem in that you have to represent your guild. I love my guild but all my characters have to represent otherwise it just doesn’t look like I appreciate my guild at all. I would like to try other guilds on one of my alts but feel that it would be disloyal
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
yes, Anet has avoided the holy trinity. But as this suggestion rests on every profession having access to a healing weapon it wouldn’t pigeon-hole people into a certain role as it is as optional as choosing healing-focused traits.
Regardless of this though I just don’t see this ever being implemented. I mean I’m desperate for new weapons in the first place, let alone healing-designated ones
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I also think it would eventually become a requirement for high end dungeons so that groups can optimise their chances. Would rather not see it exist at all
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
nice idea but sounds like it would be a lot of work to implement, especially as there is so much else Anet is / could be working on
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I think the problem is that because technically every profession can play any role, if we were able to trait whenever we pleased it would mean that people could adapt to any situation perfectly, taking a lot of challenge out of the game.
On a more lore-focused point, a character can easily change armour / weapons or decide how to act (utilities) but might not be able to change their knowledge (traits). So it makes sense in that context.
I feel freedom to change traits whenever we please would make many aspects of the game too easy.

Hello,
Just a small suggestion here.
I currently roll with Tier 3 Heavy Human armour on my Guardian.
Its no surprise that I like to couple this with the Radiant Gloves gained through achievement points.
However the gloves have no dye options.
Let me be clear – I do not expect the glow to be dyeable, I understand that is part of the set and I have no desire to see it changed.
The problem is that the armour underneath the glow on the gloves is stuck on a silver-esque colour. I like to mix my colours up a lot and often dye the chainmail portion of Tier 3 black. However as I cannot do this to the gloves it means that I am stuck with a normal silver-looking coloured armour under the glow on my nice shiny gloves.
Would it be possible to add 1 dye slot to the Radiant Gloves so that we can dye the chainmail portion of them underneath the glow?
Thanks
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH THIS!
I bought Human Tier 3 because I thought it was one of the most suitable and appealing sets for a Human Guardian. However I have found for a long time that I have become bored with the armour. Almost every other armour has such an array of dye slots that really add to the customisability of the set.

3. Capes / Cloaks as an alternative to back items
4. New zones
5. New WvW maps
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
haha this is one of those painful ‘lets make GW2 into WoW posts’. I do endorse capes. If clipping issues can be resolved I think most people would like the cosmetic option of wearing one.
However mounts will never happen. Map travel is an alternative system to mounts and realistically even using them in the capitals is pointless. The only time I could see them being implemented is if Anet introduced an endgame PvE zone with no/few WPs (to increase the risk and difficulty factor of traversing it) which would permit mounts to be used (with maybe a 20% speed boost) to help get about there.
Realistically though I just don’t see them ever happening
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
This is a suggestion for a new WvW tag. Currently we have the Commander tag. I think this works well as a tool. You log into WvW and you have someone to follow most of the time. However you can only really have one (maybe two) Commander(s) active at a time.
That is why I suggest a Captain tag. This would cost 50-75g. It would appear on the WvW map. Whereas the Commander tag is a very noticeable blue tag, the Captain tag would be smaller and perhaps a different colour (red). Enough so that it is noticeable but not at all overwhelming if there are 3 or 4 on there.
This means that Captains could lead smaller sub-groups in WvW which players can see on the map and Commanders can organise and follow as the lead the masses.
I think one of the biggest pros of this idea is that it would encourage splitting up the famed zerg. Most people zerg because it is the only really organised aspect to WvW, with the alternative being roaming. A Captain tag would permit smaller groups (of say 1-15) to actively organise and achieve goals and encourage people to have an impact on a map away from the zerg train.
The price would need to stay high because obviously you don’t want everyone grabbing a tag. Additionally I would suggest that there is a 5-man limit per team per map of showing said tag (just to stop there being a million tags up at once).
The way I envisioned it is with one or two Commander tags up and then each Commander having sub-teams led by Captain tags.
This is all just an idea I have been playing around with in my head and felt like posting. I’m very interested to see peoples views/thoughts on the idea, especially as it might help solve a few of the issues surrounding WvW at the moment.
/also add more maps please thanks.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I think this is a good idea. It would be nice to have heroic modes for dungeons (maybe requiring a larger group of people?) with some cosmetic rewards for the increased difficulty. Maybe even (and dare I say it) some armour drops that you might actually want to use and can only be obtained as drops (I appreciate that goes against the GW2 philosophy on obtaining armour). Still, a heroic mode, if for nothing else other than to test players a bit more, would certainly get my vote

I actually believe there should be more gear ‘grind’. Or rather more variety. There isn’t enough to aim for in terms of achievable equipment. It sort of goes crafted exotics/dungeon armour/ascended if you can be bothered. Everyone always has the same stuff, throw out some variety even if its trickier to get!
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
It sounds silly but there isn’t enough grind. I hate the gear treadmill as much as the next person but theres not enough to aim for in GW2. Cosmetics are so easily achievable and stats are even easier. Only legendaries are reasonably tricky to get and most people can’t be bothered to go for them. People don’t feel like they constantly have stuff to aim for which is what WoW has always been successful at providing (being a good or bad thing)
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
With all the fuss about immersive personal stories that are customised to you, I just don’t feel it. Not finished my personal story. I love GW2 as a game, and I refuse to make this another whiney post but I do feel the personal story is lacking.
I believe this is because:
In GW1 you don’t know the whole story from the start. As you play out the story you explore the game, plots unfold and there are twists with the characters that you meet.
in GW2 the whole story is just preparing to fight Zhaitan. Theres nothing interesting or exciting about playing through it and its just more of a task to get it done.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
(I hope this is in the right section of the forum)
Obviously there have been a lot of threads on Anet’s claims of expanding current weapon usage and introducing new weapons to the game.
I was wondering if any of the devs might be able to give an ETA on these updates? Or perhaps if any members of the community can offer some guestimations on when they might be implemented?
Ideally I think most people are hoping for early 2014.
I feel like this update is needed to keep some of the classes fresh and a bit more variable. I mean look at the number of weapons that a warrior has access to vs the number a Guardian can use – obviously a warrior should have more but the Guardian does appear to be lacking in choice somewhat.
When would you (as the GW2 community) want these changes introduced and what do you feel is the extent of the urgency for them, if at all?
With the recent large updates involving ascended items / new skills do you feel that there will now be a lull in the updates that we saw from Anet for a while?
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I find it ridiculous when people want to nerf Guardians because of their ability to mitigate damage and heal well. If Guardians had that nerfed then they would just be a poor dps class with absolutely no unique aspect or benefit to them.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Firstly I agree entirely that TS makes everything easier.
But I find it ridiculous that there is an expectation for every player to use third party software when in WvW. Casual players are not interested in following intently on chat channels, it is something that is enjoyed largely by the more serious players.
People need to stop expecting everyone to be an intense player looking to play a game intensely, many, like myself, play it to unwind.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast

I think the longbow would be most useful to the WvWvW scene. People always go on about how the scepter has the highest base auto-attack etc but lets be honest, in WvWvW no one dies from consistent auto-attack. It has a few nice skills to it, and is okay in a short ranged fight but it is not a viable long-distance option.
Almost all other classes have good ranged weapons. Casters for obvious reasons trump the pack, but even engis have rifles and warriors bows. It seems to me as if Guardians are the only profession that has been left out in terms of long-ranged capabilities.
I also don’t understand the argument that bows are not ‘magical enough’ to be used by Guardians. What makes a sword any more magical than a bow? Absolutely nada.
Give us a bow so we can have an active role in taking down players on WvW towers rather than focusing on the gate or attempting to auto attack them to death with our scepters.

I feel as if Human males (and females if you want) have a very limited selection of beards i.e. one. Thats not to say there isn’t a nice choice of facial stylings but rather that when it comes to full on beards there is no choice at all.
Compare this to the Norn and they seem to have a whole selection of beards going on. Now it doesn’t really affect gameplay and I guess the beard-fans are a minority to appease, but I would like to throw the idea out there to have a wider selection of beards (including those stylised in different ways). Right now my character is forced to look like santa clause. Its a minor detail but just something I thought I would throw out there on the off-chance someone notices and decides to broaden the scope of GW2 facial hair.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
My main is a Guardian and I don’t really play around much with other professions. Guardians are one of the most restricted professions in terms of the weapons available to them. I don’t think it would be a good idea to add the low %age chance of getting a useful weapon to our profession to the already low %age chance of getting the ascended drop in the first place.
I do like to play around with builds – as I’m sure many people do – so if I get an ascended weapon with certain stats, chances are I can find a spot for it somewhere in a build as long as its a key weapon for my professions.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I also have human T3. Its a real shame that there aren’t more dye options because tbh I’ve grown quite bored of the armour. If the smaller designs on the cloth could be dyed a different colour, the armour would be ten times better. I’d love for Anet to change this as its so easy to do and would make such a difference but realistically don’t see it happening
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I would also truly like to see this. I find myself playing WvW on my Guardian because he is my highest rank and I want to try to unlock as much as possible. In reality I’d like to pay around on my thief etc. but I feel like I’d be wasting exp that my Guard could gain.
