There are 2 types of people...

Dante.8456

I’ll be trying out the specialisation on my Guardian first and exploring the new content. After a few days I’ll probably tome a revenant to 80 to try out. My focus won’t be on a revenant though, not until the profession as a whole is balanced after launch. I want a more stable idea of what I’d be investing time into – the new profession might be pretty weak in an area I play a lot and don’t want to waste my time if thats the case

Order/Vigil/Priory Mastery?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Dante.8456

I agree. It would be great if our allegiances carried on into the Xpac. I mean they are all part of the Pact still and I’m sure they all maintain their different approaches. The only thing that has changed is the big bad dragon we are fighting.
Maybe some kind of Elite Vigil/Priory/Order armour? Something you can only get after completing your faction’s role in HoT?

Unlock Specializations Earlier!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

I disagree for 3 reasons:

1) Levelling 1-80 is not hard.
Lots of people can tome their way there, others can grind it out pretty quick in EOTM. I know a lot of people will say they might want to enjoy the content slowly – and thats fine – but if you are eager to just try out specialisations then you will just have to do the content faster or once you’re lv80.

2) PvP
I am assuming that specialisations will be unlocked when you enter PvP (because it already unlocks so much). This assumption might be wrong, but if not then you can simply go try out the specialisation there from lv1.

3) Prestige
It would be nice if there was some prestige to specialisations. The achievement of hitting the top level and mastering your profession. Specialisations are not new classes so shouldn’t be treated as such. They are something to do once you have mastered your professions current mechanics. Its end-game diversity. Also bear in mind that most players have several lv80s, 90% if not more have at least one. That means they can already try out many specialisations.

Current exotics turn into precursors?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

I wonder how much the new legendaries will sell for on the auction house. The current ones are already very expensive, so the new ones would be for some mindbending figure, most likely.

Don’t forget that obtaining precursors via collections means people won’t be throwing as much money into the MF or buying precursors off the TP (as much anyway). This means that a big chunk of the gold it takes a legendary will be removed and the prices will be affected because of this.
Of course there will be a rush to get T6 mats etc. assuming that the recipes do not change but I think prices won’t be that inflated because the removal of precursor costs cuts out a very big chunk of TP prices.
I’d advise anyone with current legendaries to sell now before the markets drops too much

Well they used map completion as an example of retroactive mastery points so if you want the points go for it. It’s basically guaranteed. Even if they hadn’t said anything, its a safe bet that it would be the kind of thing to award mastery points. There is no reason to wait

How many new weapon and armor skins in HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

Well in GW1 they essentially doubled the amount of skins when they released factions. I would hope they would follow the trend and add a healthy amount for HoT, I mean we are gonna be paying for it. I also hope that they aren’t all jungle themed, I love the idea of some ancient Mursaat armour.
Personally I would quite like the return of normal and elite counterparts to armour, think it would add a little diversity and prestige to some sets

Shield completely useless?

in Guardian

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

Shield on Guards has always been one of the worst pair of skills – shame as you’d hope shields on Guardians would have powerful profession skill possibilities. Its pretty useless for the most part. The only real application is in sPvP bunker builds but these days lots of bunker builds choose focus instead anyway. Its the reason I never made The Flameseeker Prophecies (which I think is the nicest Legendary)

Profession Specific Armor/Weapon Sets

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

I would love to see profession-specific armour & weapons.
They would obviously be designed with a profession in mind so I think a their in ranger armour (for example) would look out of place. I don’t think there should be mix and match even in the same armour categories. Otherwise they might as well just add new skins. If you want to look like a ranger on a thief, well, go roll a ranger. simple as that really. Profession specific armour could look amazing. Guardians could have something similar to the Dwayna Avatar from gw1 (not necessarily related to Dwayna though), necros could have a Grim Reaper vibe, mesmers could have an illusionary-style misty armour – there are tonnes of possibilities.
I think that they should be harder to get than racial armour. They should represent some kind of mastery over your profession. For example, it can only be purchased once you have:
1) completed the personal story on that profession
2) won 100 PvP matches on that profession
3) Spent 20 hours in WvW
4) Gained X skill points on that profession
5) Killed X monsters on that profession

and maybe even a quest line where it is unlocked at the end.

There are many possibilities I just hope that it represents some kind of prestige within the profession – not talking about Legendary grind but something which shows skill and time on a profession

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

When HoT launches there will be some retroactive mastery points. So some people who have completed the personal story will automatically get all of those mastery points. What Legendaries Are You Hoping For?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

I think there need to be two important changes:

1) Serious legendaries.
I don’t think legendaries should look jokey (ref: unicorn bow, disco stick etc.). They need to feel epic, serious achievements. If people want jokey weapons then these should be other skins achieved through different routes. I want a weapon that really indicates the epicness of my character, not a silly gimmick. I think a lot of people feel like this. So i hope that the new legendaries, especially the new versions of currently jokey ones, take a more serious tone.

2) More interesting lore
The lore behind The Flameseeker Prophecies is so interesting. When you make it and wield it you really feel like you a wielding a LEGENDARY weapon, something that helped shape Tyria. You don’t get that feeling with a lot of the others, especially the gimmicks. I think new legendaries should have a really strong basis in GW lore. It would be especially nice if they referenced back to GW1

then most legendaries would be only based arround what the humans did…and thats sorta lame. Dont get me wrong.. lore and stuff is always good but why only lore?

Look at the predator and incinerator…clearly charr tech weapons that where made to kick some serios kitten in battle… why not spread that out a bit more to asura too? Magitech legendaries basically with lots of pew pew and zappy thingies or sylvari styled ones that got that grown look to them and a magical feel like the dreamthistle weapons(and no stupid unicorns and rainbows for once please…) or norn styled ones based on their spirits and nature stuff…i belive somebody even datamined a staff with a crow sitting on it and to top, that direction would be kitten, and also lore legendaries cause cant even think for a second to leave the humans out. That way you got basically all styles of gw2 weapons covered

-Mechanical
-Magitech
-Magical\Lore based
-Organic
-“Rustical” (if i may call the norn style this way for the moment)
-Normal- (but who wants a normal weapon as legendary, thats sorta against the idea)

People can first off easier match them to the style they go with their char (if they go a style direction of course) and they feel much more personal…rather then the only choice. (im looking at you quip…) But thats just my opinion on it.

By ‘lore’ I don’t necessarily mean just human lore. There is a tonne of lore in gw1, a lot of it is not human. I mean we could have a legendary bow that stems from a legendary Tengu warrior or something. Any race’s law.
But I don’t think they could do a legendary for each race because that is 5 new styles per weapon class which is a LOT of work and quite frankly 6 different legendaries might be a bit much.

Revpocalypse?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

Its a valid question as to what niche the Rev will bring to the heavies as we already have a support/offensive roles profession. But lets not forget that when we look at, say, the medium armour professions (Ranger, Engi, Thief) they are largely all DPS focused. I don’t think the Rev needs to fill a niche, it can be another offensive heavy, just the way it goes about dealing that damage will be different. I suspect it will be a damage over time (not conditions) focused-type class.

Crafting the new legendary weapons?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

I asked a similar question a few days ago. Apparently Anet have said there won’t been any changes to the crafting system although this was not in direct reference to legendaries. I have the non-specific gifts saved up as well and hope the new legendaries follow the same pattern. I suspect the only changes will be the new way of acquiring precursors (collections) and the legendary specific gifts may change to a more skill-based system. The non-specific gifts I suspect will still exist as they are a good gold/karma/skillpoint sink

Think of any other MMO, to get all the best gear in game would take a lot longer, by average standards, gw2 is so so far from grundy.

I’m going to tome to 80 as well. I don’t know why everyone keeps insisting that this won’t give as good a grasp on the profession as if I were to level the normal way. The expansion is going to introduce new legendaries and precursor hunts. This means that there will be less demand for existing legendaries (as the market will double) and if the precursor hunts extend to existing legendaries then they will be easier and cheaper to make. This means that legendaries will almost definitely get cheaper, even with inflation

New Legendaries & Their Recipes

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

Hello,

So HoT will have new legendaries. This is great news. There will also be precursor hunts from what I gather – more great news. But do we know what the recipe content of the new legendaries will be?
Right now I’m sitting on half a legendary (yet to decide on which legendary so have yet to go for the precursor / specific gift).
Will these gifts be useable on new legendaries?
Will the precursor hunt extend to existing legendaries?

What does everyone think the new legendaries should have for their recipes and do you think it should be the same as it is now or more skill based?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

no offence but OP is semi-ridiculous. Half the original statements are requests for things of personal preference that completely go against the core mechanics of gw2. Return of the holy trinity? you think Anet is gonna change their entire unique MMORPG philosophy and your disappointed they didn’t?

Some suggestions I give more credit, for example the return of Heroes. This was a great part of gw1 and would be brilliant in gw2. That being said it would require all content to be group content which might not be what everyone wants.

I just find it hard to be disappointed with something that, as others have said, isn’t out yet and, furthermore, has only had its preliminary announcement made. We barely know any details about the expansion.

I look for certain things when I look at my team. I look at level, gear, weapons, titles etc. as a rough indication of whether or not a player has a lot of hours on their class or in PvP. For me I like to find players with good gear and PvP titles that show me they are capable with their class, whatever it might be.

If i had to pick a class though I guess i’d god D/D eles

And that’s why I like going on lvl 2 titleless/skinless characters with the deer finisher :P

Don’t get me wrong, I only ever use this as a rough indication of a player’s ability, you can never be sure and I have been both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised. PvP Titles to me at least indicate familiarity with the PvP mechanics which is reassuring at least

Guardian sceptre is a viable weapon. Powerful auto-attack (though it misses quite a lot), good DPS on skill 2 and a nice immob on 3 – one of the few for Guardians. However do not play guardian with the expectation of being viable at range. Guardian is not a ranged class and to want to play them ranged only will make you very ineffective.
I’d say go ranger or engineer, mix it up from light classes. Engi is in a good spot atm

Yes, out of the top 10 the top 5 would be in a team and the next 5 best players would follow.

I think it would be far more effective to take brackets of 10 and randomly assign that 10 to two teams. That way it is not the ‘best’ 5 vs the ‘worst’ 5 but rather a mix of the two. Within that 10 person bracket I doubt that the difference in skill would be that great. The problem is that if they aren’t enough people in the queue then there is nothing any system can really do about that

Waypoints: lessen their influence on travel?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dante.8456

I wish it was like gw1. There are only waypoints in outposts but there are various resurrection points. That way you have to journey to places but if you die you don’t have to restart your progress as there will likely be a resurrection point nearby.
It won’t happen but I think that system was best.

Many years ago when I played WoW (I know) I used to love to have to get a gryphon across the map. It felt so adventurous and vast. I mean its no where near as convenient as WPs but I like the feel it had.

I think the best solution is to have a mix of possibilities in different zones. I.E some zones with many WPs, some with only one or two (see SW), some with contested (Orr) etc. etc. I think its a format Anet have semi-adopted and I think they should stick with it

I am looking for someone to join me in starting a PvP & WvW focused guild on Desolation EU.
Although I play most days, I believe a constantly active leadership creates a top-end guild. Therefore I would like one or two others to join me in leading this new guild so that we can ensure there is the upmost attentiveness to its members.
The focus would be PvP and WvW. There would be a leader to focus on each, with higher ranks for commanders and experienced PvPers.

Ideally I’d like to run this guild with someone

1) committed & enthusiastic about starting a guild. 100% rep of course and helping me recruit players.
2) experienced in PvP – a decent rank and knowledge of PvP mechanics to help mentor other members.
3) WvW experience (and ideally a commander tag). Someone who has active WvW experience.

The easiest way to do all this is really through in-game PM so anyone who is interested in starting this venture with me please feel free to do that

It is also currently joint top class in PvP (along with engi). As you intend to grind this 10 hours a day (hypothetically) you will pick it up in no time. Its got great ranged flashy spells but can also go melee if you spec right.

Need advice from GW2 Vet's !

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Dante.8456

Dante.8456

So I’m new to GW2 and bought it at release and have been playing it on and off. I have 3 80’s, 1 Warrior, 1 Elementalist and 1 Guardian. I rushed them all to 80 so world complete is not on my accomplishments. Since I’m busy with work, volunteer, school and girlfriend, I’m struggling what to prioritize. This is what I’m struggling with and if anyone can help me in any way with information or anything, it would be deeply appreciated!
Note I maybe have 2 hours max per week to play so please keep that in mind >.<
1) My gear pretty much I get what to do. I need exotics for armor and weapons to get started. I have done that. I also have ascended necklace and 2 ascended rings. I’m struggling to get ascended amulets and backpiece. Especially the backpiece since i"m only reward 17 in FoTm and it seems like no one is doing low lvl fractals at this age of the game. How would I get enough fragments for a backpiece? I’m also not rich so I can’t really craft them…
Amulets I know cna be bought with Laurels (which is hella slow) or Guild Comms right? I can’t seem to find a guild who does Guild Comms during the days I do get to play so what do I do?! >.<
2) I don’t know what to do about world completion lol I only have so much time right? I did some research and it seems it takes like 45mins to 1 hour just to finish one zone so is this what I should be pumping my time into?
3) I want a legendary but it takes forever or a crapton of money if you’re rich. Is it possible to gather materials and money while I’m doing #1 or #2?

Thanks once again if anyone can help me with this! This noob greatly appreciates it >.<

I can sympathise, I often don’t have many hours to play and find myself lusting after the same achievements as yourself.

1) For amulets, just wait and save laurels, it might take a month or so of logging in but to be honest its something you can get just by logging so there is no point actively going after it if you have limited time.

2) The way I did world completion was doing a zone a day. After a while you’ll get there. Trust me when I say it doesn’t take 45mins-1 hour per zone. Realistically, if a zone is completely uncharted it might take 30mins or so. Load up an online map with all the WPs, POIs and Vistas as reference to make life easier.

3) As a casual player, its gonna take you a long time to get a legendary, unfortunately that is just a fact. I suggest following two routes for this. Firstly, do some Orr karma trains to farm heavy mouldy bags for T6 mats (both needed in the legendary recipes as well as worth a lot to sell for other components). Secondly try your hand at TP flipping. That why you can make money through investments even when your not online.

So with your 2 hours i’d suggest:

1) Log in for laurels
2) Complete a zone (30mins)
3) Run a fractal (30mins)
4) Karma train in Orr (40mins)
5) TP flipping (20mins)

That gives you a 2 hour sceduele that will help you work towards acsended amulets and backpiece as well as legendary.

Sword and Shield for Guardian?

in Players Helping Players

As a fellow human guardian, I share your desire for a viable sword and shield combo. The truth is that there is only one situation where shields are used and that is in bunker sPvP builds. In any other situation there is always an off-hand (usually focus) that out-classes them. It is a huge shame as I love the idea of using a shield but unfortunately they are just terrible. It could be argued that the Guardian shield is one of the worst weapons in-game . .

Reward track progress lost

It is temporary festive content. The other reward tracks do not act in this same manner – though the dungeon reward tracks do rotate I believe

[Suggestion] New Title

in PvP

I would like that too, i would of also liked having pvp titles and finishers mean something but anet wanted everyone to have dragon finishers. They want everyone to have the legendary champion title. What your asking is gonna take time and anet doesnt want there players to have to grind/work/try/learn how to do anything new or some what difficult.

I beg to differ, look at the WvW titles: 250k kills and all. All titles that takes years and dedication to get it

The WvW titles are a poor example. Anet stated that they set them very high so that they could judge how the player base progressed towards them in WvW. I believe they had the intention (and still do?) of lowering the requirements once they have a firm grasp on WvW progression.
I think most titles in GW2 are pretty instantaneous. Most can be acquired through spending money (on armour or even legendaries) rather than through skill.
Thats why I particularly like The Blazing Light title. Even though I could never be bothered to go for it, it is a nice display of skill over money or time
