I thought I saw a few pole arms in that fight seen?

As a Medi Guard I love fighting thieves in sPvP. I find them so squishy, it just takes one good burst and they usually go down. Either that or decide to run away and find a different fight. If i see a thief in a 1v1 I know that I will down them 85% of the time. The trick is to use up your blinds and protection skills at the start of the fight. Thieves always try and unload all their skills on you. So you protect yourself at first, let them use up their initiative, then you unleash your burst skills and they can’t do much about it
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
The only justification I have seen for it staying is that people insist it is a visual cue to let other classes know the Guard has Aegis up. But to be quite honest, why should the others get such an obvious cue? There are no obvious cues for other skills on other professions. As long as the buff is visible on the character bar (as are all others) then I don’t see why it should be made exceptionally obvious that a Guard has said buff up.
I say keep the initial animation of the shield appearing but only have it last a few seconds and remove the rest of the skill effect.

I follow a few steps every time I encounter a Mes.
First I Ctrl+T to target the real mesmer, helps in the heat of the fight.
Save things like Purging Flames for when there are lots of clones about, It will destroy them all, leaving just the real mesmer and taking away their shatter. If you time and position it right then you really take these ting out of a mes.
Stay close, don’t let them GS you from afar as their auto attack with GS can really add up.
Finally, just keep up the pressure, usually the Mesmer will crumble unless they are a skilled one at which point it just comes down to skill v skill. My build uses smite condition rather then Purge.
Any good reasons to switch my smite for purge?Because if it’s just for mesmers, I won’t change it.
Like stated before, not gonna change my build for 1 specific profession
Sorry that was a typo, I mean’t Smite Condition (not Purging Flames) – had a long day jumbling new builds so must have not been concentrating properly.
but just to reinforce, I find that Smite Condition and GS Skill 5 are brilliant because they both destroy all the mesmer clones close enough to you, really dis-arms a mrs

I’m on Deso and have no complaints. I don’t really do EOTM though to be fair. Most people and indeed most of our good commanders put themselves to use in the BLs and EB rather than EOTM.

Shocking…. “The Dreamer” got no update . . . . . . I really wish we had a effect when I first draw the weapon. (Like quip has the purple mist float around your character)
The Dreamer already has some of the best effects. Look at the Flameseeker Prophecies, doesn’t even have a footfall . . .

If gems were to be added as a reward then they should be done in a more unique way.
For example:
25 gems per 5 wins in a row

1. There are external websites that keep track of boss events and events (including temples) in Orr. I can’t link atm but they are easy to find. There is no in-game way though.
2. Your best bet is to find a large, established guild and PM an officer. Its the only really reliable way.
3. 100% Rep requirement is very very common in guilds and guilds that don’t want it are either very casual or only ask for rep in one area (i.e. WvW or PvP). It ensures that members remain active and the guild grows.
4. At level 80 there are 4 common options:
A) Farm & Flip
Farm spots like Silverwastes and flip on the TP to make money.
B) Dungeons
You can run dungeons for money and rewards. At 80 you can gear yourself for speed clearing groups once you know the dungeons well enough.
C) WvW
Once you are kitted out, head to WvW and make use of your character. Make a difference on your server.
D) PvP
Probably the most challenging area of the game. Test your skills out there.
My advice is enjoy all four. Vary what you do with you time to keep it interesting. I’d also suggest getting all the traits available to your character (even if you just buy them). The game only really gets going at 80 – its not ‘end-game’ its just ‘game’.

Favourite: Guardian.
love the play style, the concept, everything
Least Favourite: Thief.
Think its a silly play style, daft mechanics and nothing but annoying perms-stealth and wanna be assassins.

Well something definitely needs to be done to make Sword 3 hit more, its too unreliable at the moment.
I feel like this may make sceptre too OP though, i mean it has the strongest base attack so a 30% speed increase would make a big difference

Well it is a Noble COUNT outfit, not a noble COUNTESS outfit – what do you expect to be fair? That being said, I see no reason why there shouldn’t be female equivalents for new outfits, much like they do with many other sets

I did not ask support because of the above quote which states they will not reimburse skins. I have now submitted a request to see if there is anything that can be done, or at the very least get an answer. I shall keep the thread updated with the response, as I’m sure the OP will.

I had two matches today where my team had 3 Guardians and the other team had 1 / none. Now THAT is ridiculous. This is probably the most demanded fix of the PvP player-base so I don’t know why it is not being addressed faster
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
YES YES YES! it can get so boring waiting about for matches, adding a JP is ideal. Make it fun, long and don’t erase progress in-between matches.
Maybe one where we actually find THE HEART of the mists?
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
It depends on your approach. If you take your take your time, farm a few things and put conservative bids on TP it should be doable. If you are in any kind of rush then it probably isn’t enough.

I have the EXACT same issue. Also lost Rox’s quiver. I don’t see why Anet cannot restore purchases? After all we did pay real money for them . .

Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I’d say diversify and go for a caster (ele).
That being said, Guards have completely different play styles to Warriors, the only similarity being that they both wear heavy armour. Guardians are also semi-casters so might be a nice compromise before going full caster.
Then again, being able to skin / gear up a nice ascended Guardian would be nice. I currently have most of my skins as heavy armour so whenever I play a light or medium toon they always look a little lacklustre
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I’d much rather they focused on new legendaries or addressing the precursor issue rather than adding rather menial improvements to current legendaries

thats only 20 (4×5) new skills . . no biggie

Escape through meditation teleports? Well considering you need targets you can’t use it to escape at all. Guardians are terrible at dis-engaging, probably the worst out of all professions. I think OP is trolling or just ignorant of any actual Guardian skills
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I really like this Tomes. I only levelled one 80 and PvP mostly, so it will be nice to get a second 80 without the levelling grind. Downside is I won’t be all that familiar with my new profession at first . .

Hi all,
I’m looking for some honest advice.
I played mesmer near launch (to later give up for Guardian). Recently I’ve been finding my Guardian a little stale in PvP. I was thinking of giving Mesmer a go again but had a few questions.
How good are mesmers in PvP? Sometimes I hear they are deadly, other times sub-par?
How steep is the learning curve for a PvP mesmer? They are a tricky profession to grasp I know, but is it even harder in PvP?
What builds are most effective these days/ what are current metas?
In your honest opinion, is the mesmer in a good spot in PvP right now? Or should I follow the trends and opt for a celementalist / celengineer?

It will be abyss that simply looks extra dark because of the armour piece. There is nothing darker so it cannot be anything else. It is possible that the original screenshot has low brightness settings as well.

I look at this thread and my instant reaction was hell no – but the fact that it is optional is nice.
There is one big flaw though. It will always cause elitism.
Even if you join a group that doesn’t demand, say, full zerker, a group will almost always want to check gear if it is that easy to do so. This could actually mean that gear checks become common practice outside of the elite running groups – because if you have decent gear why not? This will segregate the community i believe.

Guild Halls are a must have for GUILD Wars. They were great in gw1. If we could have guild halls we could upgrade then it would be a social hub for many guilds.
Not sure I can agree with your housing concept. A housing district where people can see you in YOUR home instance? That would require every player to have access to a house. Think how many players . . . . . There would need to be thousands of Tyria over and over to fit them all in with the Megaservers in place.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
no no no & no. I always end up duelling thieves in PvP and they like to drop their stealth and try and be crafty. Well the upside of perm stealth in PvP is that, although they can always dis-engage from my Guard, they can’t cap while they do so. It is a balancing mechanic. If thieves want to perm stealth then fine but there are consequences to it.
I do think that an option for secondary friendlies (i.e. those that did not apply the stealth but were affected by a team mate’s stealth) is perfectly acceptable though.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Thief is probably the most mobile, partly because perms-stealth allows you to escape almost any encounter

How would people feel about class specific weapons? i.e. a unique weapon for each class.
Examples could include a Polearm built into a shield for guards, ritualistic chalices for necros, flails for warriors, crossbows for rangers etc. etc.
It might be a nice way to add some uniqueness as well as new weapons to the game. As there is only one new wep per class it would actually be easier to balance than most other new weapon suggestions.
Just an idea that came to me, thoughts?

I don’t get this philosophy of just ignoring a point and focusing on the other two. Just because it becomes 5v4 it doesn’t make that much difference.
This is firstly because there is enough rotation within 4 players dying and returning to a point to at least contest a single point for the entirety of the match. This means that at the very least there will be one point each held and one contested point, making an engineer capable of guaranteeing at least a ‘draw’.
Equally for you to be successful you have to successfully split into two separate matches (i.e. 3v2 & 2v2). However one of these matches will always be equal and this means there will be an equal matchup on one of the points which means that the engineer team will again be able to, at the very least, contest their way to a ‘draw’ or win if their 2v2 beats the opposing 2v2.
Finally, a lot of people assume it will be as simple as Point A capped by engi, Point B capped by other team and then Point C is always won as it is 5v4. The fact of the matter is that players rotate cap points so even though its 5v4 it is unlikely there will ever actually be a single 5v4 matchup.
This argument of ‘if you see an engi bunker just ignore it and win elsewhere’ makes zero sense because it asks you to ignore 1/3 of all points with no obvious advantage

I jump to the idea of saying 2h but part of me has this ideal of using a spear and shield, much like my mesmer did in gw1.
The perfect outcome would be having throwing spears 1h and then 2h pole arms. One would be a ranged weapon and the other melee.
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I love this idea, simple yet effective, kudos!

I got 30/50 so I could unlock all of the skins. I don’t use all of them but I love having the options there. This was especially true before the wardrobe system when transmutation was a bit more of a pain. Free skins are always nice.

Necro seems to be avoided – ironically – like the plague. Guard for suree
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Both are very viable. But from a practical focus, the Guardian excels in WvW because:
1) staff auto-attack tags multiple enemies giving you maximum loot bags
2) blocks are the Guardians strength and are the most viable way to survive mass zerg damage
3) Guardians have great commander builds if that is something that you would eventually want to pursue
4) Guardians are always wanted in WvW groups because of their survivability and support that they bring to the party
5) Great in zergs but also very viable for roaming (As long as you are able to keep up with your team)
However
mobility, mobility, mobility – boy are we lacking in it! (and CCs)
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
There is not and never will be a race change option. If you are really unhappy with your race then re-roll now before its too late. Anet has said before that it would simply be too complicated to change race.
However to save leg-work i would suggest stocking up on Tomes of Knowledge with your current class and then simply using 80 of them on your new preferred race. That way you can change with minimal trouble and without effort.

No hard counters to thieves? everything is a hard counter. Most thieves I come across go through the same stages in a fight:
1) take damage
2) stealth
3) take damage
4) stealth
5) take damage
6) stealth
7) die.
It is very rare I come across a good thief. Not to say it can’t be done but I find they have a lot of ‘hard counters’. If you are looking for a profession which can adapt well then I would say look into Elementalists – depending on builds they seem to do very well in most roles.
Truth be told though, every build will have a counter. Otherwise everyone would run that build. You’ve gotta to just run what you are good with and if you come across a counter build you just have to be much better than the other player. There is no hard counter-free build.

^by all means, I’ve never seen a bunker guard in pvp that used mace.
I’ve heard people talk about how amazing it is, never seen it. I have tried it a few times, and it’s horrid. The third swing is painfully easy to dodge, as is the symbol. How could it ever be a pvp weapon?
Up until recently almost all bunker guards used maces as part of their builds. Recently there has been some deviation from this but it is still very common. The most popular Guard builds seemed to consist of M/Sh & Staff.
Of course the Guardian bunker is becoming increasingly obsolete with the OP celementalists and celengineers who seem to be able to hold points pretty darn well
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
S/F is excellent DPS burst, often used in sPvP and frequently on a roamer. GS/H builds seem to have better sustain but tbh if you are roaming i would go GS & S/w
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
Sanctuary is used all the time in sPvP by bunker guards – for better or for worse. It can be pretty nifty in holding points, largely because of the on-going KB. It is also good for reviving team mates if needed. The CD is pretty sucky though and it is rather niche. I don’t think there are any situations where it is applied outside of sPvP because there are always better set ups without it
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
There have been many attempts to make a viable spirit weapon build but truth be told there has been no luck. Since release, spirit weapons have been the weakest of the Guardian’s supposed ‘assets’. Its a shame as it means we essentially have a wasted set of skills and traits that are never used.
For spirit weapons to ever be viable the skills need some strong improvements and the trait lines need to be switched up a bit too.

I feel the same way about stuff I bought from the Gem store. I bought Rox’s quiver at one point and transmuted over it before the wardrobe came in. I would love to have acesss to the skin again, and I feel like I should as I actually paid gems for it and the transaction is proved on my purchase history. never the less I cannot get the skin again . . .

Hi,
I am currently looking for a PvP-focused guild as well as a PvP team. I’ve grown weary of solo Q and coming across pre made teams and figured that if you can’t beat them then join them.
A bit about me:
I consider myself quite a capable PvPer, I win most 1v1s and occasionally 2v1s as well depending who and what Im up against. It is only recently that I’ve focused on PvP in gw2 though, previously being an avid WvW player. I roll with a medi guardian build which I enjoy playing and seems to do me well in most encounters. I have good knowledge of all the PvP maps and appropriate tactics. I am currently only rank 31 however.
I’m just looking for some casual but capable players to PvP with, so if you know or have a guild out there, or want a medi guard for your team, then please do let me know,
thanks!
(you can PM in-game)

It would be a pretty mammoth task to explain every aspect of the game in a tutorial. I always find the best way of learning new content is by doing it. I always want to jump into a game, not have a (God knows how long) introduction instance.
