Personally I think this change is perfect. I am mainly a PvE player though I dont mind PvPing now and then for a little change of scenery.
The WvW tournament seemed like an awesome way to incentives people to PvP a little. But the previous 2 seasons it actually just didnt work for me. Even with nothing new to do PvE wise I checked out the requirements and they were just too much to do and with a good chance I might feel like splitting my time between PvE and WvW I was sure I probably wouldnt complete the requirements and in any case it would have felt too mechanical / a chore. I may not have played a lot of WvW but when I do I dont want to chase a specific target like getting my 275 guard kills. I want to play strategically go where I am needed and when I can do the most good for my server.
Long story short in both tournament I meant to use the excuse and do a bit of WvW regularly only to be put off by the reward system and ended up not spending a single second there.
This tournament though? I got the requirement done in my first 30 mins in WvW without even pursuiting it at all. Most importantly is what happened afterwards? I am done getting my reward so did I go back to my PvE? quite the contrary I have been playing exclusively WvW since the start of the tournament. Why? Getting the requirements to earn the reward is only part of the story. The reward changes based on your world placement too. Thats a great incentive to help make sure your world gets on top and thats what I’ve been doing.
In short it may not be true for everyone but in my case at least easy to qualify for a reward was infinitely better incentive to play WvW then a ton of achievements with a ton of AP.
Fun comes first. Being free to do what you think is best is generally way more fun then pursuing a checklist.

This new “system” sucks because people who avidly wvw don’t have anything to work for, but the achievement hunters don’t have anything to work for so it’s a win-win. (Defining Achievement hunters as PvE players who do nothing but the achievements, like people farming camps for yaks, flipping ruins with enemy team, or stealing supply after being told otherwise.)
I remember season 1, and I loved it. I logged on and there wasn’t a question about where I was gonna go, because for the first time it was beneficial directly to myself and my server for me to go and flip a camp solo. Now… I guess it’s beneficial for me to go kill sentries?!?! During reset no less? Not really a great change, however if it get’s people who do not want to be in wvw out then it’s a great change, otherwise bring back Season 1.

Anet tried to listen… Just not to us (moderate wvw community). Instead they heard the extremists from T1 who don’t want any PvE’ers in their wvw, and they don’t want anybody doing anything outside of the normal behavior patterns for those servers (I.E. zerging instead of capping camps, sentries, yaks, and even JP’s.

On this note (tried to look it up on wiki but i failed). How many people can rally off 1 dead person and how much damage you have to do to get a rally off it?
If you tag them (I.E. get credit for the kill) you can be rallied off it.

1 or 2 people able to stall a larger group 5-8 is awesome
However 1or 2 people effectively stopping 5-8 for a very long time is not so Ok.
Plus it doesn’t break a zerg, think of the NW tower in Bl’s with a zerg of 15 people. If 5 of them sit at the disabled rams and the other 10 go build and fire cata’s that tower is still going down. Not to mention a large zerg and PvD.

Daily PvP Match and Capture achievements can’t be done in WvW. Please remove them.
That makes no sense. They can be done in PvP. That’s why they are PvP dailies.
WvW dailies are supposed to be done in WvW.
The edge of the mists is a form of WvW.There’s nothing negative that would come from such a change.
Must be new around here if you still think EotM has anything to do with wvw.
However to your point there’s nothing particularly nasty that could from this… Except we like to keep our achievement points close to home(not looking at the tournament or anything).

But map completion in general is kind of boring… To Chaba’s point, I have 90+% map on 2 characters because it was a fast way to level but dang if I wasn’t ecstatic the last time I finished queensdale.
Seriously though, have you really done everything for your legendary (or do you think you will) while enjoying every second of it? If the LI’s were fun to get (functionally fun, not this dungeon is awesome I’m glad I have to do it 30 more times fun) everyone with over 400 hours in game would have at least one. Then the value of it would be diminished and no one would care, so if you want the awesome weapon then you gotta “trudge through the sludge” to get it.

Were you in the keep when it was taken? Did you check all the walls, there’s some people use when they’re being sneaky. If you were inside when they got to the keep I have a hard time believing you would have lived long enough to check all the gates and walls…

I like the original idea, especially because it doesn’t have to change anything. You could add the wheels and without drastically changing the current meta you could introduce a new strategy.
Although I disagree with the idea about earning “Siege or supply rights??”. While I think it was well intended it would also create a serious break between new players/new characters and older players/characters who have been in WvW for a while. If you are a new player who joined because of wvw and you get in, and literally all you can do is run around and PvD so you can pick up siege it could easily create tension between players.
Although maybe only the person who throws down the siege can move it? We can mail each other siege now a days, so if you wanted to let a small group move around siege they could easily just share it amongst themselves, build wherever, and then off they go!

In wvw when was the last time you specifically set out to find and fight another player? With no intention of taking anything ppt related? No yaks, no camps, no sentries, no ruins, just a player to kill. If the answer is never then wvw is just PvE with pvp in it. If you have, congratulations are in order you successfully found unstructured pvp, in a PvE map.
Pvp generally consists of killing or at the very least fighting other players, but if you go into wvw to cap sentries, kill yaks, etc. then is your intention really pvp? And if you’re intention is PvE then isn’t the end result a PvE maps with some pvp?

Everything needed for map completion can be taken or broken into at some point. If you need a tower, get a friend or two, buy a guild catapult and whack the wall during off hours. Same thing, but with more people for keeps… Plus as a side note, why do you think so many people have commander tags?? We all needed map completion at some point we just spent 100 gold where if you take my advice you’ll spend maybe 5 if you need extras.

Mediocre map filled with siege. Siege, siege, siege, siege, siege, and the occasional NPC. Honestly, I’d rather them focus on account-bound wexp over that train wreck.
See I hate this. People ask for a new map and a solution to long queues, and this is the answer to both. EoTM will have overflows so there are no queues, something people have cried for since release. People want new maps as well, well heres a new map.

Btw: Nobody asked for them to monitor the PvP matchup thread with 20% of their moderators either.You really think it wise to make a map with overflows count towards the score? That just makes the strong servers stronger. I don’t even want to think about the outcry if that happened, and tbh, i’d be with them.
No I don’t think it would be a good thing. However I don’t think people really wanted EOTM either… What people want is fairly simple, a Q system that works (FIFO)… However of course Anet doesn’t handle criticism well and as soon as the FIFO Q is implemented people would be complaining that there is still a Q until Anet implemented something like EOTM…

Thief: Stealth. What and mobility. King of burst.
Actually Thief class mechanic is Steal, not stealth, which actually isn’t that useful. Stealth is just as easy on a Mesmer, and Mobility well we’re really not that mobile… Other then that I agree with you on the limiting mechanic and it needs to be reworked.

Thief here, but the skill has every reason to be better when we use it then when you do…
You can use yours over and over (everytime the CD pops), while ours we use once and then get the CD, then have to use the skill again, just to use the skill. So You press one button twice, we press one button 4 times…
That said, my first character was warrior and I loved A/A, but would agree that the skill could use a revamp, but using thieves as a reason isn’t the right idea.

Ok, sorry if this question has been asked before I apologize, but I was 1v1ing a warrior last night and then a different one in Spvp later and I couldn’t for the life of me do any damage.
I had to get six stacks of bleeding on the first warrior before his health even started dropping, which wasn’t hard, but fairly difficult to keep up all the time.
Then the second warrior two Ele’s couldn’t bring him down before his whole team showed up.
So I know about the actual invulnerability skill, but neither one of them were using that during most of the fight, so I guess my question is:
How do you guys keep your health so full all the time, and would you be willing to offer some tip to fight these hard to kill warriors?

Ok… That was a lot, so I skimmed and hopefully got the gist of it.
Personally I haven’t really seen a lot of hammer trains, but I avoid the big fights so, I suppose that would be why.
Reducing the AoE cleanses would definitely solve some of the problem for Condi-builds, but it might also bring about a new meta of Necro’s and other heavy Condi professions (Not really familiar with what heavy condi means to most people, personally I was just happy solo stacking 25 bleeds with my ele). Which could be just as scary to people without solo cleanses. Plus giving groups the ability to opt for AoE cleanses allow groups/individual people within the groups to focus on dps rather than always having to watch their own survivability {older games where you have tanks and healers, tanks don’t have to stare at their health bar all the time} means you have more reliance on your group.
Now, ending the mindless zergs is a good thing. However only if it doesn’t kill the coordinated groups as well.
Tbh: I like my crit damage, and I would hate to see anything happen to it, however if it would help to cut down zergs and uncoordinated groups then I’ll take one for the team any day.

I grinded the achievements out (because of leaving the game for a large duration of the season, although I normally only play WvW), not for the speculation of awesome loot, but because I would finally get a WvW title. Something that would show people that I actually do something in the game, because pre-season title, people who played WvW all the time had nothing special except maybe a blue Dorito (commander Tag). Now I can be proud of my new title that I won’t take off until I get a new WvW title (C’mon Yakslapper!!), and the people who grinded it out for hopes of good loot will move on and find a different title that doesn’t leave a bitter feeling in them.
Plus C’mon guys, give it up for Steve!! (The mini yak). Although I do want to admit it would be cool if he let us carry an extra supply (11,16,21) which was suggested in one of the other threads.

I understand where many of you are coming from with these threads on how to change the queues, but they need to stop. Almost every thread with an idea wouldn’t work and Anet wouldn’t support it.
A queue should simply act like a queue and thats it.

If you’re coming from the perspective that you know a lot about wvw and you want to lead, but don’t have the money/desire to spend it then learn how to make more money and just get the tag so you can show what they’re meant for.
Plus, one last note: Everyone paid to play the game, that doesn’t mean everyone paid to win. What I want is for the casual player to feel like they can engage in WvW without a commander present. Everyday whenever a commander tags down in EB all I see in map chat is people complaining about not knowing what to do. I want them to learn how to play.
I agree that the current method for acquiring the tag is silly and I agree that following good commanders versus bad one makes sense. My point is that the broader hierarchy of the commander system is hurting the game and should be looked at.
Also, your ‘last note’ makes no sense in the context of this conversation. This is not a situation where play-to-win applies.
The problem with that idea is that you can’t really get rid of the system at this point, and a lot of people do wander around, not knowing what to do. However there’s no way to really fix that, because a lot of people choose to be spoon-fed orders, and as far as organization goes the big blue Dorito in the sky helps people find the group. Otherwise map chat would be constantly asking where the group is and very possibly to the same extent it is now. If you want them to learn how to play, then learn how to teach, otherwise the commanders will keep taking advantage of mindless zergs with no better plan.

The achievements were chosen terribly.
There are THREE achievements for jumping puzzles. But there is not a single achievement for defending anything.
There are achievements that motivate people to waste supply on pointles repairs, or hog siege with no mastery slowing down the whole zerg.
But there is no achievement for upgrading a tower or a keep, something that is universally a good thing and doesnt detract from anything.I say let these PvE’ers spend there PvE gold to upgrade keeps and towers. And rather then do silly jumping puzzles that contribute NOTHING and only take up space, let them escort dolyaks.
But my guess is, the reward from Season 1 will be a big disapointment as all WvW rewards are. And this will come as a shock to the pure PvE players who expect atleast 2 rares for every 10min spend autoattacking, and they will come to the conclusion its not worth the trouble and we see a lot less PvE’ers in season 2 as a result.
Please don’t give an achievement for upgrading, please! While in an ideal environment running all the upgrades is eventually good idea, rewarding players for just picking one and going with it could result in a paper tower with merchants and we really don’t need that going on everywhere.

Elementalist- Mist form: 3s invuln, 75s CD. Can’t use other skills during vapor form, can’t cap points. Can’t trait for automatic mist form at certain hp threshold.
Engineer- Elixer S: Same as above, 60s CD. Can trait to get a second elixer S automatically.
Warrior- Endure pain: 4s invuln, can use other skills and cap points. 60s CD. Can trait to get a second endure pain automatically.
Don’t forget about Focus Earth #5, that has a 30-40second cooldown, or the 20s reflect #4

And every time you buy the siege on the TP you’re filling some weapon dealer’s pocket… Most notably me, and my commander tag thanks you for its creation. (Seriously though if they made siege last indefinitely I would be broke and my market would crash)If I understood right you get siege from other players because of your commander tag, and then sell them on TP? Well… that’s… sick.
Anyhow, back to topic. I agree that the decay timer should NOT be increased, because of the trolling. Not really because of the cap on the map, but because of the 5 siege vicinity counter. It’s not that hard to build 5 useless ballistas (which cost like 1 silver each in TP). close to a gate making defenders unable to place any defensive Arrow Carts on that gate. Waiting 1 hour for the troll ballistas to disappear is doable, but 3 hours or even 2 hours, is just too long.
And you asked how the troll have patience to do this all day? Well, they don’t do it all day. They come in when the server they want to help are having big events and start to troll, making the enemy servers life a lot easier.

That really sucks, but at the same time I think there is a reason to clarify that it sucks because it was done by 3 people. If you had 20 people on top of you, I doubt you’d be greatly concerned by how long you had to stand there, but rather how hard they hit you before you die. Being able to stack 20+ seconds of immobilize with 3 people needs to be fixed, and it should’ve been caught by the Spvp guys, however I wouldn’t try to rush Anet into a diminishing returns on CC, cause if they put it in wrong it’ll make killing a decent escape artist a heck of a lot harder.

I play primarily Ele, have a Thief and Ranger but I don’t really pay attention to them, so I’m not gonna bother with them…
Please keep Diamond Skin, while it seems like a lot of people are saying it’s going to be OP against condition damage builds, I don’t see how it can really hurt that much. Yes if you run 100% condition damage then you just won’t do any damage, but very few builds can run entirely 100% condition damage.
My greatest fear as an ele who focuses primarily on condition damage will be running in to another ele, specced just like me! However even we will have the option to swap into lightning and pound each other down to 90%. I don’t know much about other classes, but I know warriors have plenty of non-condition burst, Necro’s have shadow form (or whatever the class skill is called), Guardians have heavy hitting skills, thieves have backstab, Mesmers have shatters, and I don’t know that ranger’s have much in the way of condition damage (I could be mistaken, and sorry for leaving engi’s I know absolutely nothing about them) so while it could force someone to adapt their playstyle for part of the fight, isn’t that the same thing we do everytime we fight a Mesmer? Instead of just pick and shoot, we have to pick the right thing to shoot.

Against trolls just make – like in another thread suggested: Siege cap per peson. And maybe like: 1 golem per person, 2 trebs per person, 4 catapults, 8 ballista, 16 arrow cart – ram then lower again. And maybe a max cap of 10(he can place for example 2 catapults, 8 ballista and no more other siege).
Would need more persons for golem rush to place blueprints but that is good(everyone getting golems from JP and taking away the cost from the commander).
Sadly though it wouldn’t decrease the cost to the commander, most commanders get their siege from people, and they could easily just return the siege as they needed it put down. Plus a lot of commanders like to have near-total control on siege placement (which is probably why there is so much complaint about the breaking doors and walls achievement)

Ok… no. First of all offering players with little or no time in wvw free/ paid server transfers is really, really stupid. If I don’t play wvw then it doesn’t matter which server I’m on, I can guest anyhow. So what’s stopping me from just swapping servers every week and cashing in on my free gems? If anything the players with high wvw hours should be getting the discounts, why? Because which server we’re on might actually matter…
So what if I have no time in wvw at all, so if I literally have 0 seconds and I Q then people have a 100% chance to pass me, so I just what? Sit there until prime-time is over and no more Q? No thanks, I probably have about 600 hours (2,160,000 seconds) and I think that’s a really bad idea, what we need is First In, First Out.
When you go to the dmv it doesn’t matter if you make $0 a year, or $100,000 we all get in a line, and we all stand it in until we get done, same should be said for wvw rank, wvw time, whether we have a tag or not, if we’re in a wvw guild, or if we’re just starting out. Whoever gets there first should be rewarded for getting in Q first.

Anyone looking for 1v1’s should message me tomorrow before reset. I’m new to the Ele and really trying to get a grip on the pvp. So any one willing to take a minute out of their day for a 1v1 would be greatly appreciated. (I’ll be on for several hours before reset)

How about some wxp for ordering the upgrade.. something low.. and for the actual completion of the upgrade.. then give the rest of the wxp
Or even better yet, reward the people who purchase it, the people who give workers swiftness, and people who defend it during the upgrade should also get a little bonus (all when it finishes). Personally I hate seeing that the DE for an upgrade is done and knowing that no one gets anything for it.

On topic: I feel that siege could use a slight timer buff, maybe 1 hour 30 minutes, no longer. Putting simply 2 hours will make people want to abuse it. I still dont understand how people sit online all day simply grieving a server. Like dude, did you seriously get that angry over a few wipes or something to spend the next week of your life pressing F essentially.
It’s not really the people who get wiped it’s the people who get sent over from other servers who act as spies, if the siege limit would allow them to block people from using siege then it might be reasonably affordable (for a server/large guild) to invest the money (and person) during the off hours to waste supply and take up siege space so that when prime-time rolls around they can still storm in and take important places like SM or keeps.
However rare that currently may be, the reason people are so concerned with the idea is because it did happen in the past. Although I’ve not seen a total blockage I have seen people putting up dozens of flam rams up in EB keeps.
(Course to be fair in entirety my server has capped Golems before on many occasions most notably)

The current seige timer works everywhere but EB.
In the BL’s people actually care, as well there are generally fewer objectives to seige up and keep seiged.But in EB, you tend to get more PuG’s which tend not to know or care about seige.
I’ve spent 6 hours refreshing seige there, gone to go do a 1 hour guild run on the BL’s only to come back and find every single bit of seige has despawned. I was cursing in chat so hard lol.I just dont think most people realize how important keeping those seiges refreshed is, or they dont care. A properly seiged tower can be defended by 1 person. As well, there often isnt enough time to flash build a few AC"s to defend, especially if your the only person there.
The problem is that you’re blaming the pugs, while it isn’t fun to argue with ourselves at some point we have to realize that while we might be willing to refresh siege (even if we aren’t the ones who put it there) we can’t expect the same thing from fair-weathers.
I’d rather get stomped down by T1 servers with the T9 population than sit at a keep staring at siege for 6 hours… Yet every Friday I get stuck in a different tower doing just that. I wouldn’t ask that of the devil himself so why would I expect an up-level or a PvE fair weather to do it?
However I do feel the siege could use a revamp anyhow. For example Flame Rams: I don’t know of any rams that are really useful for more than maybe 10 minutes (when they’re not being used). Especially once you take something with it they just sit there as obstacles for whoever comes to take it back from you, why not give rams 30 minutes and give the arrow carts and Ballista the extra 30 minutes (Ha, who actually refreshes the ballista =) )

I’m against being able to pull supply from the yaks, just cause I don’t really trust people with the supplies once they’re in an upgrading keep, but giving them a larger time-frame to pull them doesn’t sound like a good idea. The traps could use a little bit of tweaking, just cause the 10sec immobilize could be devastating in the right place (next to my arrow cart for example). The change to battle standard I think needs to be for all non-manual revive skills (Ele can rez 3 at a time as well).

So let me get this straight, ESO, a game based on an ip known for single player dungeon crawling is a better RvR game because you cant get past your servers Q? did you know that theres a new map for people in Q?
I forgot what kind of psychological defense mechanism your argument here is using, the one where you nitpick and aspect of one game, put it in an opinionated negative light and somehow is someway in your mind it gives creditbility to another thing.
I wonder how you feel about the different sport teams youve admired and how they would react to you posting something like this in their forums
The problem is that we haven’t gotten anything in WvW since launch while the PvE’ers have gotten constant updates of things they want! What have we got to show for 14 months of hard work: a rank that provides a title we can’t show our friends, a league that just keeps us out of the game we want to be playing, constant streams of PvE’ers who don’t care what’s happening to the score, and constant struggle trying to keep up with the dev’s obvious inability to prevent market inflation. So yea looking forward to a new game isn’t shocking in the slightest, when it has a chance to be a better place to rest. I’ve never seen a game like Gw2 where the PvE’ers get the benefit of WvW while whole-heartedly disrespecting it.

While I think we’re all slightly grieving about the new PvE in WvW, I think we can all be slightly grateful that we haven’t heard “Scarlet’s minions attacking Stonemist” yet, so maybe this is just an attempt to combine WvW and PvE in a good way…
Now I’m not just playing the optimist, think about it a little: they added “finishing” to PvE and they added these toxic towers only to mercenary camps. They could easily be adding this as a way so that the PvE’ers don’t have to come to WvW (for Halloween achievement), and allowing WvW’ers to get the inconvenient mercenary achievements just a little faster (The Toxins kill the mercenaries lowering morale letting you come in and take it back).

If the yak is being guarded by people, then yes it should take either a group or a skilled enough player to kill the guard (player) to kill the yak. I don’t disagree with buffing yaks, however if no one else is near the yak it should be soloable. Even with the guards (NPCs), around 2 guards shouldn’t be too difficult for people. (If it is you can always get practice at the north supply camps)

Did you ever stop and think that in order to do the Halloween finisher achievment some people didn’t want to go into either WvW or the heart of the mists?
Please use this logic to explain to me why I can’t work on my stupid Mercenary achievement in wvw without seeing a countdown to germination.

I wouldn’t mind seeing something done about how useless the upgrade is, however increasing their own ‘ability’ would defeat the point of yaks and sentries, and to some extent the idea of solo-capping camps.
Yaks are intended to be their defender’s problem, and it shouldn’t take more than one coordinated person to kill a yak unless the server is willing to defend them. Same with sentries, if you increase guards in general than sentries are going to get effected, and guess what they’re actually intended for solo players and small groups.
I didn’t play wow… so sorry I don’t know what that last part means, but I do want to conclude saying that: “I just feel WvW needs more team play and less steam rolling.” shouldn’t even apply to yaks, they’re for small groups so that zergs don’t have to worry about them.

I was hoping what if… Ele has the option to pick a Major element, and maybe a minor element to stick with. By doing so, you disable the other two elements in combat. HOWEVER, you gain additional 5 skills on your major choice of elements. (suggestion, by pressing F5?) And those 5 skills are much stronger then the average weapon skills, with shorter recharge time.
I also suggest those skills should enhance each element’s power plus balance each element’s weakness. For example, Water Elements seriously lack of damage, so we should get more damaging AoE with more chill… longer chill duration or more AoE skill to set enemy into ice block. (currently only deep freeze from Ice bow can do that!) Fire Element at least receive one self-heal or buff skill. etc. (Note: I always think Chill duration is way way too short in GW2!!)
The minor element we choose will stay as the current weapon skill set. So that way we will still have 3 sets of skills to choose from, but 1 set of much stronger focusing elements.
I was also thinking we need Water and Earth scene Elite skill. (We have Air/Fire scene elite skills already!)
While that may be coming from a rp stance it wouldn’t be any reason to add more skills. Sadly the only advantage ele’s have in combat is being able to switch functions mid combat (from our class skill) with that we happened to get 4 sets of 5 skills, that doesn’t mean our advantage of having 15 extra skills will be protected. Rather than make extra skills that are more powerful with shorter cooldowns they need to look at our average skills that we already have.
But at least give us the flexiblity options to play Ele
How does blocking your ability to change attunements give you flexibility? If you want to rp as an ele who only uses fire then don’t change attunement, there’s no reason for Anet to have to force you into rp’ing.
Hopefully I wasn’t elitist on you, however I just wanted to point out as a whole it isn’t a bad idea but they better fix our class before they start adding rp’ing features to it.

Well there’s been some good fights, there’s no denying that. However for the most part this match really sucks, I’m not one of those achievement hunters but I am really starting to see the appeal of leaving our zerg to go cap ruins for an achievement.
Btw, props on being able to keep a dozen people on every supply camp… ALL THE TIME.

Well at the low levels you really can’t craft stuff that is going to be better than your current gear, when they say it will be useful items. Primarily you’ll be able to replace your gear as you level up.
Sadly enough you will have to make a lot of items that are useless for you, however if you pick the right items you can sell them for a profit on the TP.
Have you tried experimenting yet with the crafting signias certain will give you the stats you want although at lower levels of crafting you might only be able to pick one or two stats.
